The selling point of the convention was that it was free. Also, there wasn’t a rigid structure for games. While you could schedule a game ahead of the convention, there was no sign-up sheet for players. Instead, people could just set up games whenever the fancy stuck them with no hard time commitments.

The vendor hall was small, but for small businesses like us that’s a huge boon if there’s a decent number of attendees. We made a good number of sales on Saturday when the most people were there and got to talk to plenty of people about our products and our upcoming setting book for Savage Worlds, HELBINE. Speaking of attendees, Den Con had 300+ visitors this year, about double last year’s attendance. I personally attribute part of this to the location because we were in a town center-type area, so there was plenty of foot traffic through the area and people wandering over to see what was going on. Given the con was free to attend, everyone was allowed to just walk in, look around, and maybe play a game or two. I recall one man who came in with his daughters because they were in the trees nearby playing pretend and then saw the big blue inflatable dragon outside the entrance.

Apart from the games and vendors, there was also a Viking reenactment group that came. They had a bunch of stuff on display to showcase different historical weapons and tools like arrow types, axes, and carving implements. They also put on some fights on the grass outside where they explained different weapons, tactics, and practices of people who lived during those times. Oh, they think end game = difficult, which is also wrong and silly in the game where you're in end game after a single promotion.

I could honestly sit here for hours and point out how many of these responses are no better then corpo speak, but here's a few obvious ones:

Translation:

The statement "This was meant for the base game" is always just a sign that they realized how much more fat stacks they'd make if they could resell cosmetics, change said cosmetic sale model and/or get a secondary stream of income from both that and purchasing the game.

Of course, they just accidentally revealed that this could have been the new Season 5 update that would have revitalized the game. Instead, it's too hard, sorry!

There's maybe ten responses to "this is a stupid idea" with them responding with "Yeah we knew you'd feel that way! Trust me, it'll be worth it!" while not displaying a single reason why that would be or why anyone should trust them when the last good update was the new weapons two years ago.

Someone told them you can spend positive feelings on your content and they misunderstood and thought that the community would still be there in a year of nothing to do after multiple years of nothing to do.

People play Deep Rock Galactic for the progression. It's about getting new gear, new cosmetics, new builds, collecting more shiny rocks and gold and becoming better at the game. It's not about getting a Legendary Flaming Minigun that you'll have for fifteen minutes or shooting bugs at all moments of the run, which sure is what they are describing as the game that's going to detach all of their current progress and run them back to zero.

Oh, and also they promised that large content updates for Deep Rock Galactic are done forever

Please look forward to season 5 being admitted by the devs as being as undercooked as the last.

The way they are responding automatically to questions really speaks of someone having coached them on what to say, and I really don't think they grasp what's going to happen if and when Rogue Core fails to launch.

There's probably not many people talking about Deep Rock on here, but DRG is being put into a freezer filled with meaty tendrils for 8 months (or more) so they can slamjam out a standalone roguelike version of the game.

I think a lot of people were already pretty confused by them having that secondary team making a Vampire Survivors clone, and the board game, but now we're looking at the game that few people are satisfied with the state of as the games best time is long past most dwarves. The best grinds are for Overclocks which quickly run out and leave you with nothing but grinding for cosmetics (90% of which are slightly different versions of beards). Add on that the game is being left on an event which I've regularly heard people say they'd prefer having the robots back (and everybody fucking hated the robots)

The general issue is that rockpox demands specific build types to overcome which ruin players desires as they need pinpoint damage, which then requires more attention and drags down the experience. Robots required heat, but heat was easy to obtain on many builds.

Not a good choice for several reasons, mainly that heavy combat wasn't the main draw of this game and ultimately will fracture it's own playerbase, rendering DRG drained of its more combat focused players on top of the slow entropy of players leaving due to BEING FUCKED BY ROCKPOX for 8 months.

Add on the fact that they are acting as if the ALPHA of this new game won't need continued effort applied to it, which means the main game will slow down even further, thus leading to the same problem of players leaving faster then they'll join.

This is not the way forward to keeping this brand growing, this is how you get elongated YouTuber videos talking about the good ol days. You don't want that.

“How were you allowed in here?” A gravelly voice called out from a corner of the lab as you walked in.

“I let myself in.” you reached around you to fix the gun in the waist band if your pants. It was a GSG 1911, you wouldn’t go anywhere near Umbrella without a gun on you.

Guards didn’t obstruct you from entering the building, workers didn’t question your stamping through the halls, scientists let you into the higher clearance area without blinking. Everyone knew of your relationship with Albert Wesker. No one dared to stop you as you made your way to his lab.

“Let me rephrase that. Why are you here?” He stood up from chair he was sitting on, a black turtle neck hugged him tightly as the white lab coat hung loose around him, the shades covering his eyes slipped down his nose and revealed his red eyes to you. They burned right through you. His light brows furrowed at you.

You didn’t have a good answer for that.

You wanted to see him.

That was the worse answer out of all the ones in your mind. You really didn’t have a reason to come see him, and as you marched through the halls you forgot to think of a reason to be here. So you took a deep breath and answered.

“I needed to talk to you.”

“You missed me?” He said it more of an observation, eye brows raised and a smirk playing on his shitty thin lips.

“No.” You answered a little too fast. You walked to him and took a look at him standing. You haven’t seen him in months. The two of you were taking a break from your relationship, you walked out on him.

Stopping a few feet in front of him you watched him sit down in the chair again, facing you, he pushed his glasses back up on his nose. He was a cocky mother fucker. You should dislike him, you should hate his guts, and yet you crave him on some weird level. A part of your brain missed him, begged you to see him, it missed the feeling of his arms around you and his stupid deep chuckle as he held you tighter.

“I hate you.” You looked into the space between his eyes, not wanting to meet his own eyes, but wanting to present yourself as more confident than you really were.

It took a millisecond to register the movement across from you, Wesker had reached behind your back and grabbed the gun, the metal now pressed against your temple, he had dragged you closer to him in the process so you were now in front of him. You flinched at the movement but you stood still as you took a second to understand what just happened, it all happened so fast. You met his eyes that burned under his sunglasses, they held contact before breaking as his gaze shifted to the gun. He dragged it down your cheek, slowly tracing your jawline down to your chin, where he patted the bottom of your chin before that cocky smile reached his lips. The metal grazed your skin as be brought it down to your neck, poking it against your pulse before dragging it back up to your temple. You held still.

“Curious. Curious indeed. You hate me, and yet you trust me to not pull the trigger.”

Your eyes instantly flickered to the gun only to find his pointer finger on the side of the firearm, the safety still on. He wouldn’t hurt you. He wouldn’t kill you. The GSG 1911 pressed back to your pulse, you felt your heart hammering against the metal.

Something shattered in you, be it your pride or your ego, a wall around your heart started to break down. You missed him. You missed him dearly. You hung your head and the gun left your skin.

“Why can’t you be the person i want to hate?” Your voice was barley a whisper.

Wesker stood up once again and hugged you.

How you melted in his arms was embarrassing, something you wouldn’t admit to anyone, not even wanting to accept it yourself.

“I missed you too.” He admitted.

Medea can't sleep. That's nothing new. The book in her hand isn't new either, but for some reason, it's her favorite.

It's not really good, the characters don't make sense, neither does the timeline. It's also terribly written. Still it became her favorite.

So now she's sitting here, reading the book she hate-likes while sipping tea even though she should be asleep. Her father and mother would be upset, but Medea couldn't care less.

While she flips her page she hears a sound. Medea looks up and sees a boy sitting on her windowsill. His face is covered and Medea knows what's happening.

He's an assassin.

She get's up immediately. "What are you doing here. No, that's a stupid question."

The boy infront of her chuckles.

"That may be the most interesting reaction I've ever seen to an assassin."

Medea shrugs. "It's not the first. I'm honestly getting bored with all the people trying to kill me lately."

Dion had been told that the youngest child of the Solon family was interesting, a clever girl and also very talented. But he hadn't expected that he would be that interested.

"Shouldn't you try to kill me?", she asks.

"Right... How did I forget about that?"

Medea shrugs again. What a weird assassin this boy is.

So they fight, it's messy and surprisingly hard for both sides. Until Dion notices something on her nightstand.

"You read 'Gerogias Secret Garden'? That's such a terrible book."

Dion laughs, and Medea's cheeks turn red.

"Wha- I- I just wanted to check the book out! Of course it's terrible! Stop making fun of me for that!"

Medea punches Dion in the face. "Wait... How do you know? Did you read it, too?"

Now it's his turn to turn red. "Never, I would absolutely never read a book like that."

"Pfft. Sure, you're really weird mister assassin."

"I'm really not reading GSG! And I've never did. My- uh... My sister said that it was terrible!"

Medea raises her one of her eyebrows. "Your sister? You don't sound convinced."

"I don't need to sound convincing, I'm telling the truth."

"Sure."

"Really."

"Yes, yes I believe you."

"I am telling the truth."

"And I said that I believe you. Geez, you sound like some kind of insecure girl."

Dion takes in an offended breath. "How dare you. I do not sound like an insecure girl."

"Whatever you say girlie."

"I'm going to kill you."

"I mean that's what you're here for right?"

She's right, Dion hates it. How did he forget that, again?

"Well? Aren't you going to attack me again?"

"You know, for a little girl you seem really into dying."

"Oh please, you couldn't kill me if you tried. We've been here for at least half an hour."

"Really? I totally lost track of time. Congratulations, you survived longer than everybody else I was sent to kill."

"Who send you?"

Medea knows that he won't answer her, probably. Well, he is acting really weird.

"My father. He's an asshole."

"Your father? What? Why would you tell me that?"

To say that Medea is confused would be an understatement. Why would he tell her who send him, and why the fuck would his dad send him?

Not even her dad would send her to assassinate someone... probably.

"You know what. Father's suck, it makes sense."

"You have daddy issues, too?"

"Daddy and Mommy issues. I win."

"Not really, I have both, too."

"Oh."

Silence falls between them.

"Well, I should leave. I don't feel like killing you anymore. It was nice to meet you, Lady Medea."

Medea looks at him confused. That's a weird action. "You're leaving?"

The Fight Against Domestic SELF-Radicalization in the U.S.

“Self-radicalization refers to the phenomenon wherein individuals radicalize by consuming extremist literature but have few, if any, formal ties to any terrorist organization.” (Lawfare 2016) 

In the past when America has dealt with active shootings, violent hate crimes, and lone wolf terrorist attacks that were domestic in nature; we typically saw individuals who were mentally disturbed, or had previous violent tendencies and encounters that were well documented (despite the lack of attention to them), or a hate group which were on the fringes of society. We cannot and should not diminish or lower the horrific nature of some of the attacks perpetrated by some of those people and groups, but fortunately or unfortunately they were events that law enforcement, the legal establishment and American society as a whole felt able too, penalize and rationalize why it likely happened.  However, what we see currently in our society now, is an uptick of primarily ONLY violent crimes, an increase of hostile and unbelieving perceptions of mainstream establishments by everyday people, and the downright autocratic slant of some political parties in recent years, has created a TIPPING Point in our American society that we have to drastically fight our way back from before we are reshaped into something much worse than what we saw after the civil war.  

To be quite frank the fact that 74 Million or more people voted for the losing President and supported the majority of his rhetoric is more telling than ANYTHING that has happened before or after the most recent election. I’m not a political person, I’ve always worked for “a-political” organizations such as the U.S. Military, the U.S. Capitol Police, the Central Intelligence Agency, and U.S. Department of Homeland Security; and although each of us who work in those organizations have our own personal and private beliefs, most of us believe that what we do in those organizations is BIGGER than all of us and that the Service that we provide is what keeps AMERICA safe and free.  However, with that said I am not blind to the reality that people generally gravitate to the interests and people which they most feel comfortable with overall. Security-wise we are facing a threat from forces that previously were forced underground after the civil rights changes and updates of the 60′s through early 80′s. Something has changed to make over half of the majority demographic in this country feel less safe and less entitled to the freedoms they were born into. Maybe it’s a social behavioral problem at its root, but for the purposes of this “Intelligence Bite” (blog) and the profession I have carved out for over the last 26 years, it is the THREAT of violence that seems inevitable and what we have to prepare for and fight against.  

Below are a few ACTIONABLE STEPS we recommend people do to pull ourselves off the radicalization wagon. 

1. Be aware that when you use social media there is an entire opposition force within  adversary countries such as Russia, China, Iran and North Korea, who have the capacity, motive and intent to covertly influence your perceptions of another group of people of whom you may or may not agree. 

This is dangerous because say a person doesn’t quite understand BLACK LIVES MATTER (BLM), they grew up in the early to late 90′s thus they did see the civil rights struggle firsthand; they believe that the fact we had a Black President is indicative that the civil rights struggle is pretty much over, and that overall those Black Americans who protest inequality missed the memo on the 44th President. Those factors about a person can easily be seen and understood by the groups that users join, the threads users read, and the posts that users make. So then that Foreign Troll throws gas on the fire and digs into a RED line psychological area that you (the user) care most about.. such as “Post: BLM was founded by Marxist and they hate America”; thus the easy assumption is All people who fly under the BLM banner MUST hate America. 

Looking at this critically, even if you are a “Marxist” it doesn’t automatically mean you Hate America; also BLM to most Black Americans has nothing to do with Marxist philosophy or ideology, and I’d wager that the majority that support and believe in the movement know nothing about the political roots of its founder real or unreal. The POINT is, that what may have been a guy or a girl on the fence and minding their business about BLM, suddenly they are emotionally and politically involved. Thus, one by one, this causes damaging rifts between everyday people, damaging rifts between political parties, and damaging rifts within the fabric of our Democracy. 

2. Research the people and institutions that mean so much to you. 

This is a fairly direct and simple one, before we pledge ourselves to a way of thinking that makes us feel most comfortable. Please learn where the information came from, and if possible learn about the person(s) and groups/organizations that you support. A lot of the time people react off of emotion, which may lead to them following a group or person that is often many times less than scrupulous and not really the kind of person an average American would want to be affiliated with overall. Thinking and living critically and with purpose is the key to seeing the truth, for whatever it may be. There is no ONE source of information that has all the answers, go through at least TEN sources and then see how many out of SIX of those sources seem to say the same thing and then consider what the opposing sources say and if they make sense in the larger scheme of things. Once that’s the done, then get the opinion of someone you trust. Then make a decision about what you read.

What we ask above in our actionable steps is easy but it is not normal and thus likely very difficult. Chapter Text

The last two months had been hectic and rushed, It seemed like once a team was dropped off, another was being picked up at the same time. The White Masks were pulling one stunt after another. Everything seemed to be on the table right now, hostage situations, bomb threats, bank robberies, networks being hacked for information, well known people being targeted for assassination. The world was on high alert and for good reasons, they had never been hit like this back to back. It was almost like a last ditch effort to make a push against the world but they were also having trouble getting past Rainbow who shielded and protected everything and everyone they could from the terrorist's. But this is what Rainbow was brought back for, to serve and protect. IQ let a few thoughts linger, she loved her job and her teammates. Monika wouldn't give up her position for anything. This was her perfect area to work in, she could be her best with Rainbow and she was never alone. She rubbed at her tired eyes as she updated her Spectre, it had glitched out on her last deployment and it nearly cost her and Capitao their lives despite the injured ankle she gained from the C4 blast that rocked them. He didn't hold it against her, blaming it on the jammer the terrorist had set up to block them out from Ash and Thermite who had overseen the mission.

Her gaze settled on the crutches resting against the work table beside her as the dull ache in her ankle bit at her as a reminder that her gadget wasn't always reliable but she needed it to be. Never again, I won't let them jam my device again. IQ though to herself as she got back to work once the update finished, she was applying a thicker cover to the device to protect the electronics inside it. It also didn't help she currently had no one else from the GSG 9 to hang out with. Blitz, Glaz, Ace, Ying and Jackal were currently out on a hostage rescue operation somewhere in Florida while Bandit, Warden, Clash, Rook and Castle were out defending a VIP in Greenland that had been under an assassin's scope for a while now. Jager was busy flying teams to and from base, taking small naps in between the trips in his helicopter. She wished she could at least keep the pilot company but she had no flying experience and wouldn't be of any help to him. The door to the workshop suddenly swung open, causing the German woman to glance up from her work. She was greeted by Twitch who held two cups of steaming coffee. The French woman walked over and handed her a cup, earning a quiet thank you and smile. They simply sat in silence for a bit, Emmanuelle could easily find most of the operator's even if they didn't want to be found and could cheer them up within minutes of simply chatting or sitting with them with an offering of snacks and a drink but considering it was still very early in the morning snacks were out of the question. Doc would fuss at them about eating properly and avoid snacking or forcing them to do extra training with Rook and Montagne to work it off. Either way Twitch always waited for the other to speak first, most were glad for that but IQ wasn't sure what to say. She missed her team, all of them. She was out of the rotation for missions and resting for the other's she was sure would happen. "You are worried about them, yes?" Twitch asked with a smile, she had already been fully aware of the reason IQ stayed in certain parts of the base.

The workshop for a legitimate reason this morning and secondary familiarity of having to drag Jager away after over night stays working on his magpie, Bandit from the gym if he couldn't sleep due to nightmares or insomnia, pestering him to go visit Doc and finally Blitz from the training simulations, he was always worried his shield wouldn't go off at the right moment or it wouldn't be able to block everything the enemy had to offer. Monika felt like the big sister of the GSG 9, always worried and looking after them and they very much apricated it, even someone like Bandit. She nodded in reply, "Marius mostly, he hasn't slept a actual bed for almost three day's. He's been napping in his helicopter between transporting equipment and teams to different locations." "He'll be fine, Jager has spent nights in worse places before, besides he loves flying so he's living the dream right now." Emmanuelle chuckled, "Although I'm worried about Rook as well. He just got over a cold and he's back out on the field." "Really? He seemed okay and was his usual hyper self when they left out." "He just doesn't want anyone to worry but he's been in near daily contact with Doc just to make sure he's doing okay. Everyone should be back tomorrow afternoon at the latest." IQ smiled and nodded a bit, taking a much needed sip from her cooling coffee. She couldn't wait for them to get back and for Jager to get proper rest, despite Twitch's words she wouldn't rest either until her family was home safe and in the GSG 9 dorms but thankfully with a small spread of word around base they helped each other pass the time. Monika even got a lift cross the court from Tachanka who was going the same way instead of trying to navigate the busy hallways of the central area of the base. The recruits had been put into over work by some of the operator's around base, wanting to get work done and keep reports, paper work and equipment flowing for their friends out in the field. Tachanka carefully set the injured German down, allowing her to use his arm as support until she got her crutches under her good enough. "All good?" He asked with a smile tugging at his forest camo balaclava. "Ja, thank you for the help Alex." She replied with a grateful smile, earning a gentle pat on her shoulder from the giant man before he disappeared into the building to track down Kapkan over some subject he had been tasked with replying. Monika on the other hand worked her way around to the common room and spent a good few hours there, checking her phone for messages and replied to a few from Blitz and Bandit before getting distracted by a movie Mozzie and Gridlock were watching, enjoying it and laughing along with them until Mira and Twitch came to gather her, wondering if she wanted to come down them to greet everyone back. She nearly jumped at the chance before Mira reminded her of the injured ankle she had much to the German woman's frustration. They eased their way to the landing pad with Doc joining them halfway with his medical bag in tow just incase anyone was injured, he took a moment to inspect Monika's ankle before following them to the landing pad, dreading the injuries their friend's might be sporting. Usually he knew before hand but with the base in such a scramble he didn't have time to answer every call unless it was his personal cellphone only Harry and the other operator's had his number to. Jager's beloved helicopter came into view along the airstrip, swinging it around to land on the helipad with practiced skills. Once the blades died down and stilled the side door slid open as the exhausted operator's filtered out one at a time. Ace turned around after he hopped down to help Ying out, her left shoulder nestled in a sling. No one else seemed injured aside from dirt and grim sticking to them, possibly some scrapes and bruises from their jobs but otherwise they were in good health. Doc preformed a quick and thorough with each other before he escorted Ying to his infirmary with Ace in tow for a mission update on any injuries he tended to in the field. IQ pulled the GSG 9 crew into a large group hug despite protests from Bandit and Jager, both disliking close contact or public affection until Blitz who caged them in from the other side. Her family was finally home and safe, she held back her emotions until they returned to their dorm room. Mainly from the fact that Blitz had given her a piggy back ride all the way while Bandit carried her crutches without a word. His attention on bothering Jager who was trying to stifle yawns from lack of sleep. Once they reached the German dorms she was carefully sat down on her bed while the boy's left to get showers and change into more comfortable clothes. When they returned from the shower room they paused at the door to hearing soft sobbing and sniffling. Blitz shot the other two a look of concern which was promptly returned before he carefully opened the door to inspect the reason behind their teammate's crying. "Mein Freund, was ist los?" (My friend, what's wrong?) Elias asked softly as he knelt down in front of IQ who was hiding her face behind her hands. "It looks like you sprung a leak." He added after a moment, trying to lighten whatever burdened their teammate. He always tried to cheer them up the best he could. "Is everything okay?" Jager asked as he fidgeted with the swing on the front side of his sweat pants. He still had a hard time picking up on social que's but knew the air was a little heavy right now, watching Bandit take a seat beside their friend and gently bump her shoulder with his own. "Ich weiß, du hast uns vermisst, was sollen die Tränen?" (I know you missed us, what's with the tears?) Dominic said in a uncharacteristically soft tone, worry clear in his honey brown eyes. "J-ja... I missed all of you. I'm okay." IQ replied, wiping her tears away and gave them a genuine smile. She had her boy's back, everything was diffidently okay.

1. i have pretty big fingernails (got them from my mom gsgs) which i like bc there’s a lot of surface area for me to paint my nails on !!

2. i love the pain i get from eating spicy food lmao. there was a period in my life when i would just eat lots of small chillis in any meal just to feel that sweet sweet pain again✨(but i can’t do that for long or else my tolerance would get too high and i wouldn’t feel that kick anymore)

3. recently, it’s been my nighttime routine to fall asleep to asmr of foot massages ggsgsg i’ve just never had one before and they look really relaxing ;-;
