Serpent's Order - Entangled in Warped Torrents
Atmospheric Black Metal from Athens, Greece
Drawing inspiration from the haunting visions of Dante’s Inferno, the eldritch myths of H.P. Lovecraft, and the dark melancholy of Edgar Allan Poe, this album immerses you in a world of twisted landscapes and unearthly dread. Musically, Entangled In Warped Torrents channels the raw energy and atmospheric grandeur of the 90s black metal scene, paying tribute to the iconic sounds of Dimmu Borgir, Lord Belial, Limbonic Art, and Emperor, while pushing those influences into bold new territories. Expect crushing riffs, sweeping symphonic elements, and an atmosphere thick with intensity and foreboding. Every track on the album is a visceral experience, blending the majestic with the macabre in ways that will captivate both fans of classic black metal and those who crave something darker and more immersive.

The Lovecraft Investigations

Official Website Listen on Spotify Created by: Julian Simpson, BBC Radio 4 Aired: 2019-2023, possibly incomplete Episodes: 42
An investigation into witchcraft, the occult and secret government operations. From H.P. Lovecraft.
Each season is a modern retelling/adaptation of one of Lovecraft's stories. Two journalists with a podcast investigate strange happenings, performing interviews, getting into trouble. Very high production value with great acting. I've seen hints there might be a season 5, but no new news lately…?
Perfect for fans of mystery thrillers and red string, or if you're familiar with the Lovecraft Mythos and think a modern retelling sounds interesting.

- Minor progress on "Kisses Full of Broken Glass"
- Spontaneous (and delightful) progress on the next Dog's Life buffer chapter ["Scatter By Sunset"], including changing a few plot points, so I'm intrigued by how it's going. Turns out when I was overwhelmed in October and needed that extra month for Chapter 42, that's because I actually needed 4-5 more chapters in between that and the plot point I was trying to hit :'D Dog's Life is not really what I expected when I started it, but it's my favorite and I like it.
- Sick all day (Visited relatives for two weeks, came home earlier today). Cold, tired, and hurting. Luckily I had nowhere to be except headed home (and when I got home, I was able to watch some YouTube videos and read a 'fic update I'd put off while at relatives'). I had a tasty grilled cheese.
-> I enjoyed Tango and Skizz joking about Skizz cheating on Tango (in his Hungry Hermit minigames team-ups) and in response to Tango getting in his face and yelling "Well, you cheated on me!" Skizz just casually replies things like "I know. It was so good" and Tango falls over laughing, choking out, "It wasn't even like 'No, no- Listen!' It was like, 'Oh baby, it was so worth it; I'd do it again'" and Skizz just falls to pieces, sldkfj... the juxtaposition. Silly. ["Back at Hungry Hermits with Skizz!"]
-> I hope TangoCam became dad to a new pet dog
-> He did not, but I see day-counter lamps
- Super rough outlines for some Neighborhood Watch AU 'fics I want to write (Yesterday, but still liking them today)
- Organized 44 downloaded 'fics today (All the ones from my FFN favorites). Making a collection of URLs next to download links because I prefer reading from webpages, but some of my favorite works have been deleted and I'm glad I can easily access their downloads from my same organizer sheet.
-> Not sure what it says about me that one of my most common filters is "Grief." Oh no.
-> Remembered how much I like some of these short story-driven favorites from my past (This is about SelenP's Fawful-centric pieces, like the one where Kamek and Fawful quest to revive Cackletta and shenanigans ensue, and multiple works of impeccable Kamek characterization... Kamek shouldering through the Koopalings' playroom door and yelling "Hey kids, I've got explosives!" lives rent-free in my head... I adore the Kamek-Kammy rivalry too.
-> Might make another sheet for my own 'fics (with download links) and post it for people to access in case FFN and AO3 go down unexpectedly someday, but not high priority right now (Thankfully)
- I'd like to do more self-indulgent one-shots this year, not binding myself so much to the 130 Prompts or my main AUs. I have a ton of things I didn't submit to Guess the Author that I'd like to finish, plus other one-offs. Mostly secret soulmates & Zombiewood, but. you know who I am.
- Listening to many songs for upcoming chapters, especially something that works for "Scatter By Sunset." Slow progress, nothing's hitting. Might be two too conflicting vibes for one song for this chapter, but at least it's low energy. I really do not want to split this chapter again.
- Mayhaps... song planned for something else could work better for "Scatter"?
-> It does not
- Funny to revisit some songs I'd used for Origin of the Pixies, considering them in a new light for Dog's Life. Don't think they work, but makes me go "Hm."
- So many animatics I itch to do, but it would be such a "small drop" of creation longevity (I presume) compared to what that time can give me for buffer-building chapters, and these 'fics are more important to me right now than drawing niche plot points. Might do some short clips for sillies (24-hour challenge or such)
-> There's a Total Drama scene I've wanted to animate Poof and Foop to for 8 YEARS, but I didn't have a good character to play the third part until Dev
-> "Other Side" is such a good song for the H.P. & Anti-Cosmo drama in Origin and Knots. I've have visions for ages...
-> Sorry for being who I am (Using break-up songs as inspo. for chapters about unrepentant kidnappers)
- Spent too long on this post and songs; tired. Feeling better than last night and hopefully better in the morning.

Walking through the picturesque streets of Cardinal Hill, you find Silas Addams, the 42 year old author originally from Portland, OR. Living alongside them in such a small town, you know that they're articulate and conceited, but what you might not know is that they are a human, and that they’re hiding something… ― Kieran Culkin, bisexual, male, and he/him.
-Content Warning: Drugs/Addiction, Neglect
Author notes:
Full name: Silas Bartholomew Addams
Gender: Man
Pronouns: He/Him
Age: 42
Birthday: August 2nd, 1948
Zodiac: Leo
Sexuality: Bisexual
Occupation: Author
Prologue:
Born in Portland, Oregon, Silas’ childhood consisted of fancy holidays, nice dinners, and extravagant dinner parties. While they were nice, they all usually ended with his parents having a few too many glasses of wine, a loud shouting match, and forgetting to tuck Silas into bed before he goes to sleep. It was these lonely nights where he first learnt his love for books, being joined by the likes of Mary Shelley, H.P. Lovecraft, and Edgar Allen Poe. This horror influence can be seen through all of his writing throughout his life.
Silas got his start in writing from an early age, being gifted his very own typewriter for his thirteenth birthday. While his first writings are hardly to his standards for publishing, he couldn’t stop. There were times where he ran out of paper to write with as he used up the front, back, margins, and packaging of the fresh ream he opened in the morning. He would regularly lock himself in his room only to come down for dinner, just to run back up before his parents could finish their second bottle of wine, and that's saying something.
Silas went from being a single child to a sibling on April 8th, 1965, with the birth of his brother Stoker. Stoker’s birth was a shock just about everyone, with most doctors writing off the chance of his mother conceiving about 3 years after she went through menopause, still, the little bastard made it.
Silas tried his best to give Stoker a stable parental figure, something Silas never had. He would make sure to tell him right from wrong, and tried his hardest to steer him away from replicating their parents actions. He struggled however, as Stoker never took quite a liking to reading and writing and Silas did, however Silas still tried his hardest.
At 19, Silas got his first novel published, “The Haunting of the Everwood Forest”, and started what many critics call his golden run. Iconic works of horror such as: “The Widows Crux”, “Sinister Reflections’, and less popular but still famous “A Phantom’s Kiss” became household names nearly overnight. At 26 Stilas moved out of home, and got a snazzy apartment in New York City.
Silas didn’t just stop there, he released hit after hit after hit, his publisher hit a proverbial goldmine. Fast forward a bit, got a dog, met his future husband, dabbled in painting, got divorced (lost the dog in the proceedings), and you catch up to Silas now. He hasn’t written a word for about 5 years, and is desperate to have anything come to his mind. Silas has recently come to Cardinal Hill to stay with his brother Stoker, and get what inspiration he can from the town's history of witchcraft, and Stoker’s crazy conspiracies.
Behind the words: A glimpse into Silas Addams -
What can be said about Silas Addams that can't be said about all the greats of history, smart, intelligent, good with the ladies. Some critics call him arrogant and conceited, but that's just part of the charm.
Silas’ perfect night would involve a nice dinner, a broadway show, and a long walk across the beach (the beach being code for a bar crawl). While he can be a little bit pompous, he is good at reading people, and loves to interact with a wide array of people. He claims it's a passion to learn about human nature, but deep down it's a desperate grab to think of anything to write about.

28, 36, 44 if you haven't done them already?
28. How many books have you read so far this year?
I've read 60 books so far in 2024, though that number is made up mostly of manga volumes.
Here's exactly what I've read:
1-35: volumes 7-42 of Berserk by Kentaro Miura
36: volume 1 of Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hatori
37-41: volumes 1-5 of Devilman by Go Nagai
42: It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover
43: volume 12 of Chainsaw Man by Tatsuki Fujimoto
44: volume 4 of Attack on Titan by Hajime Isayama
45: Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
46-47: volumes 1-2 of Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya
48: volume 1 of One Punch Man by ONE
49: The Shadow Over Innsmouth by H.P. Lovecraft
50: The Dunwich Horror by H.P. Lovecraft
51: The Horror at Red Hook by H.P. Lovecraft
52: The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle
53: Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
54: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
55: The Monkey's Paw by W.W. Jacobs
56: American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
57: volume 1 of Vampeerz by Akili
58: volume 1 of Heartstopper by Alice Oseman
59: The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin
60: And Then She Fell by Alicia Elliott
36. Name a book you consider to be terribly overrated:
I've already ranted here before in the past about how much I really do not like Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and think that it's a bit silly and annoying and weird that it's so often considered one of the best books ever written: (X)
BUT OTHER THAN THAT I think that the Harry Potter series is, and always has been, a little overrated. It was a lot of fun to read and definitely deserves to be considered a classic of children's lit, but it just simply wasn't THAT good, omg... I thought this back in the heyday of it as well, the way people worshiped it and acted like it was literally the only books worth ever thinking about and reading really made me cringe after a while. I was basically exactly the right age for it all when it was first coming out too, and I enjoyed the books all once whenever they first came out and the movies once whenever they first came out, and then that was basically it! Never felt the need to get involved in the fandom or buy merch or re-watch the movies or anything. I just didn't feel like it was really deep enough to be acting as obsessive about it as so many people did, really? And I already felt like I had outgrown the books a bit by the time the series was coming to an end. Anyways, there's all the more reason not to go that apeshit over it nowadays with the insane bigotry that J.K. Rowling is so fond of spouting and supporting publicly as well.
44. Do you like to listen to music when you read?
I usually put on something like a YouTube video featuring fireplace or rain ambient noises, like so:

1933 Handley Page H.P.42 Hanno
(artist error, the aircraft name is Hanno, not Hengist) G-AAUD, production number 42/3, was named after the Carthaginian explorer Hanno the Navigator, who explored the Atlantic coast of Africa in approx. 570 BC. Hanno first flew on 19 July 1931 and was later converted to a H.P.42(W) (Hannibal class). Hanno suffered a hard landing at Entebbe, but was recovered, refurbished and returned to service. The aircraft was impressed into No. 271 Squadron RAF and was destroyed in a gale at Whitchurch Airport, Bristol, when it was blown together with Heracles and damaged beyond repair on 19 March 1940. This aircraft was featured in the fifteen-minute 1937 Strand Film Company documentary Air Outpost, landing at Al Mahatta in Sharjah, now in the United Arab Emirates

The Book of Thoth
The Book of Thoth is a legendary ancient Egyptian text attributed to Thoth, the god of wisdom, writing, and knowledge, often depicted with an ibis head or as a baboon. It’s not a single book but a collection of texts, both mythical and historical, believed to contain profound knowledge about magic, the universe, and divine secrets. Its significance ties to Memphis, Egypt, a major religious and scribal center where Thoth’s cult was prominent, and where Nefertiti’s era intersected with the city’s enduring influence.
Mythical Narrative
In a famous Ptolemaic-period story, “Setne Khamwas and Naneferkaptah” (Setne I), the Book of Thoth is a magical text written by Thoth himself, hidden in the Nile near Coptos in a series of nested boxes guarded by serpents. It contains two spells: one to understand animal speech and another to perceive the gods. Prince Neferkaptah retrieves it, defeating the guardians, but incurs Thoth’s wrath. The gods punish him by killing his wife Ahwere and son Merab, and Neferkaptah commits suicide, entombed with the book. Later, Setne Khamwas steals it from Neferkaptah’s tomb, only to face supernatural consequences, including an illusion of loss and humiliation, prompting him to return the book. This tale underscores the Egyptian belief that divine knowledge
Historical Texts
The term “Book of Thoth” also refers to real texts attributed to Thoth, stored in temple libraries called Houses of Life, like those in Memphis. Egyptologists Richard Jasnow and Karl-Theodor Zauzich identified a Demotic text from the Ptolemaic period (c. 332–30 BCE), known from over 40 fragmentary papyri, as “The Ancient Egyptian Book of Thoth.” This dialogue between Thoth (or a figure called “He-who-praises-knowledge”) and a disciple (“He-who-loves-knowledge”) covers scribal arts, sacred geography, the underworld, animal knowledge, and temple rituals. Written in Demotic script, it likely originated in temple scriptoria, reflecting the intellectual culture of places like
Clement of Alexandria, a Christian church father, claimed Egyptian priests used 42 books by Hermes (equated with Thoth), covering hymns, rituals, astrology, and medicine, suggesting a vast corpus of Thoth-attributed knowledge. Some sources, like Manetho, estimate Thoth wrote 20,000–36,525 texts, though these numbers are likely symbolic. The Book of Thoth is also linked to the Book of the Dead, with references on sarcophagi quoting Thoth’s wisdom.[](https://www.ancient-code.com/the-book-of-
Connection to Nefertiti and Memphis
While the Book of Thoth is most associated with the Ptolemaic period, Memphis was a key center for Thoth’s worship during the New Kingdom (when Nefertiti lived, c. 1370–1330 BCE). The city housed temples and scriptoria where such texts were likely composed or preserved. Nefertiti and Akhenaten’s religious reforms, centered on the Aten, temporarily diminished traditional cults like Thoth’s, but Memphis remained a hub for scribes and priests. The Book of Thoth’s emphasis on scribal knowledge reflects the kind of intellectual activity that would’ve thrived in Memphis, even during Amarna’s upheaval. Nefertiti’s influence as a powerful queen might have intersected with Memphis’s administrative elite, though no direct evidence ties her to Thoth’s texts.
Cultural Impact
The Book of Thoth has inspired modern fiction and esotericism, appearing in works like H.P. Lovecraft’s stories (linked to Yog-Sothoth), Rick Riordan’s *The Serpent’s Shadow*, and Aleister Crowley’s *The Book of Thoth* (1944), which ties it to his Thoth Tarot deck. Some legends connect it to the origins of Tarot cards, though this is
Current Status
No complete Book of Thoth survives, only fragments like the Demotic papyri studied by Jasnow and Zauzich. Its mythical allure persists, with some claiming it holds universal secrets, though archaeologists view it as a product of Egyptian scribal tradition. Recent scholarship, including a 2021 update by Jasnow and Zauzich, incorporates 89 new
If you want specifics—like its role in Memphis’s Houses of Life, connections to Nefertiti’s religious context, or recent finds—I can dive deeper or check X for current sentiment. Let me know!
