Now I am not sure what was the actual reason that one song won over another. Maybe And The We Danced movie makers simply had no permission to use "Tu Ase Turfa..."? (It happened before - many singers wanted not to be associated with movie about "perverts", that's why most of ATWD songs were recorded particulary for the movie and the song sang in the car had to be literally written for the car scene alone (!!!) - you can read more about it my "And Then We Danced: Soundtrack & Lyrics" series or under my "ATWD amateur guidebook" tag). Or maybe it was decided to not fit to the moment in the film as perfectly as "Khma amoige..."?

I got to say I loved "Tu ase turfa" since the first time I heard it (and it was on ATWD OST playlist even! Though I thought it was a mistake for that song was nowhere in the final movie so I thought that maybe somebody was mistaken... Yes I was so stupid to think someone could mistake two totally different songs, lol😅). But I love "Khma amoige..." so much in this scene, it sounds so quiet and delicate, almost like a lullaby... or maybe like a first shy thought of noticing somebody's beauty for the first time? - and it fits so perfectly with Merab's bashfull little laugh in marshrutka when Irakli's sleeping on his shoulder🫠 While "Tu ase turfa" would sound more... solemn? And serious? (especially the part with choir). I can imagine it would feel more as if Merab was already deeply in love in that moment... Though the lyrics does emphasize the fact of not noticing beauty before being ready for love so theoretically it does fit to that movie scene... So I don't know, just my thoughts😅

But I love both songs, I love all of them!❤️❤️❤️

The voice of Georgia, they say. I have never been to the high hills of the Caucasus Mountains, yet Hamlet Gonashvili's voice transports me there.

What snuffed out the voice of Hamlet Gonashvili? He fell from an apple tree, at the height of his fame.

Tsintskaro (წინწყარო): the name of a Georgian village that also means "at the spring water" -- love that.

Often when I am thinking about the mystery of the voice and the way it brings to life the presence of the other, I hear the lines from the Medbh McGuckian poem "Charcoal Angel":

Okay, after aimlessly clicking myself through the website radiooooo.com, I have somehow ended up listening to music from Georgia of the 1950s and now I am obsessed with this song.

Just some trivia: the singer Hamlet Gonashvili was also called 'the voice of Georgia' as he was an influential teacher and singer of traditional Georgian music (and imo he abso-fucking-lutely deserved it).

He died in 1985 after falling out of an apple tree (don't want to sound disrespectful, but I find this somehow iconic).

Uhhhhhhhh okay I will try. Tbh I don't think that I can describe myself very well, definitely not with one song. But I decided on Halele by Laboratorium pieśni. In short, it's a mourning song. For a long time I've been raging and biting and during these past few years I've come to realize that now is the time for me to grieve and mourn. People, relationships, experiences and other things. It took me almost embarrassingly long time to realize that I should mourn for myself, because no one else will do it, not for the right reasons. So here we are. (Also that one time I was uhhh drunk (sorry) sitting under a castle ruin, crying and wailing this, was definitely an Experience™)

This man has been through a lot, and the tragedy connects him with this river.

But over the years, he has not lost the ability to enjoy life and has not acquired the habit of speaking from the height of his age.
