Hand Chakras: Healing in Your Hands

While the main chakras in the human body are aligned with the spine along the center of the body, many other energy centers are located throughout the body. The chakras that are found in the hands are a little different from the main chakras in the body. The hand chakras don't necessarily store energy in the same way that the main chakras do, but they are still important focal points for the flow of energy, and as such, it is important that we acknowledge them and keep them healthy. The hand chakras are some of the most important of the secondary chakras. These energy centers are especially essential to those who practice healing using their hands, such as reiki practitioners. However, we all use our hands almost constantly, and ensuring that the flow of energy through the hand chakras is healthy and unimpeded is a good idea for everyone. Our hands, after all, are what we use to create things, to make things, and to do our work. We use them to comfort others, to feed ourselves, and even to help us to communicate. Keeping the hand chakras clear and clean is an essential investment in good health and wellbeing.

The Hand Chakras

The main hand chakras are those located in the center of the hand, in the palm. Other hand chakras can be found at the joints of the fingers. Imagine lines of energy extending outwards from the center of your palms along your fingers. Many chakra healing and energetic work practitioners link these hand chakras to the other main chakras of the body, a little like how reflexology links points on the feet to different body parts and organs. This means that what we do, the hand chakras has a knock-on effect on the primary chakras; the Root chakra, Sacral chakra, Solar plexus chakra, Heart Chakra, Throat Chakra, Third eye chakra, and crown chakra. 

Therefore, the hand chakras can be used to channel energy from these other chakras, and it is this energy that gives the hands their healing power. They permit energetic power to enter and leave the body and can be harnessed to provide healing energy.

Problems with the Hand Chakras

Just as the main chakras in the body can become congested, blocked, or closed, stopping the flow of energy, chi or prana, so can the energy centers located in the hands. When the hand chakras are open, and energy is flowing, this is associated with higher levels of confidence and creativity. People will feel more content in their own skin, happy to be themselves, and open to new experiences. However, when the hand chakras are not permitting a healthy flow of energy, there are other negative symptoms that might be experienced. This can include a lack of confidence or even feeling, perhaps a sense of numbness or inability to feel or express emotions and feelings. This can lead to feeling a significant dip in the ability or desire to be creative, and in turn, this can make the everyday problems in life feel larger and more daunting. When the hand chakras are not open, energy work is disrupted. Free-flowing energy in the hand chakras is essential for healing, whether that healing is for others or oneself.

Opening the Hand Chakras

To open the chakras located within your hands, there are a number of excellent practices. Here are just a few simple ways to remove obstacles and restore energy flow in the hands.

Water

Water is one of the best ways to cleanse the chakras of the hands and encourage the flow of energy. The best way to do this is to hold the hands under a natural source of (preferable running) water such as a stream or the sea. Alternatively, a bowl will do the job. It is important to visualize the water working with your body to cleanse the hands of any blockages and restore the natural flow of pure energy.

       2. Hand Massage

To use hand massage for unblocking energy hand chakras, start by holding the hand's palm to palm together to increase the heat in them. Gently begin to rub the hands together, then massage one hand with the other before returning to rubbing them together. Move the hands away from one another, and you will feel the energy between your palms. Visualize this energy as a ball of healthy, healing light. Allow yourself to enjoy this sensation and then place your hands together and visualize the energy breaking up any obstacles and free-flowing through the hands and into the rest of the body.

        3. Crystals

The chakras in the hands will also respond to the use of crystals. Choose a crystal you are drawn to, and when you conduct your usual meditation practice, or simply as you relax and unwind at the end of the day, hold the crystal in the palm of your hand and visualize the energy working with the chakras to dissolve congestion and restore the balance of energy to the hands and the rest of the body too.

The hands are often overlooked, but treating your hands with love and care is so important. As you wash your hands, use lotion or moisturizer or use your hands for creative purposes, acknowledge them and visualize the flow of energy that they represent. Gratitude for and awareness of this energy can be transformative in itself. Enjoy your energy practice, remove any pressure from yourself over what you should or should not do, and intuitively try to tap into the healing power of your own hands.
