Joking aside, they improved Su Muyu's scene! This is what my favorite character deserve! You can tell that even without visual effects, the movement of Sikong Changfeng's actor is still quite decent. I find it funny that Baili Dongjun has so many skills but that's not enough to save people he treasure. *sighs* We're definitely going to watch them suffer and how they became jaded...

I also hope people don't make it a competition and spite each other's characters. Its bromance and yeah, friends will fight against each other à la Naruto and Sasuke. It happened all the time in Wuxia. The purpose of the fight is to watch what actually happened and see where they are coming from.

Episode 11: Tie Xin Lan tells Xiao Yu Er that he looks like Hua Wu Que, that to her they look like brothers... but Xiao Yu Er denies that this is so, because Hua Wu Que seems like a pretentious person, and he doesn't like that.

I am fully aware that I am late to the party, but I have lots of thoughts on how Xiaoyu’er’s and Wuque’s brothership would develop post-finale so here we are.

Bickering

With Wuque's upbringing in the refined Yihua palace, it is to be expected that he would be far more academically knowledgeable than Xiaoyu'er. Specially considering that the drama does throw in the occasional joke of Xiaoyu'er misquoting this or that proverb. I just think it would be kinda funny if at some point both are having a verbal spat over something ultimately trivial and Wuque, realising he probably won't be able to outwit Xiaoyu'er, simply switches to cultured speech to mess with him.

Go matches

The first time Xiaoyu'er loses to Wuque in a Go match, he is incredibly dramatic about it. He eventually accepts it, but not before putting on a Shakespearean drama performance.

Reputation

By the end of the drama, although he has made amends with both Murong Jiu and Zhang Jing, the rest of the world still knows Xiaoyu as the Most Evil Person Alive, so seeing him travel alongside the illustrous gentleman Hua Wuque must be quite a sight... at some point some unfortunate soul is bound to make a comment on Xiaoyu'er's villainy while they are traveling together. At which point Xiaoyu plays it off likes its nothing with his wits, but Wuque gives the clueless offender the Wide-Eyed Look Of Reprimanding Outrage™. Xiaoyu'er is a smug little gremlin about it.

Friendships

Xiaoyu'er would definitely pick up on Wuque's loneliness eventually, and push him to make more friends at any chance he gets: shared meals with fellow travelers, festivals.

The woes of high literature

Imagine at some point they are solving a mystery. As it is expected, Xiaoyu'er is mostly in the lead, as being the clever one is kind of his thing. So when finally everything is starting to click together there is only one clue that has yet to fit... and for whatever reason it is a piece of hyper complicately written literature. So in the middle of his Eureka moment, Xiaoyu'er has to turn to Wuque for help because "I can't read pretentious".

Attempted tutoring

Following the previous incident, Wuque attempts to tutor Xiaoyu'er. Thanks to the latters shenanigans, they end up doing anything but actually studying. At least they had fun...

Three episodes deep into Handsome Siblings and the only characters I can stand are Yan-baba, Wan Chu and Xiaoyu. The parent villains are on thin ice.

The sisters are fucking obnoxious and weird, were they men, they’d be condemned for being creepy. I don’t care how much he reminds you of his dad, you’ve done him a disservice (yes, I know you want to make parents suffer via kids having bad times because oh, how dare they love each other and then die (which you caused) and leave you with the obsession😱), but this is YOUR sect. Of WOMEN. That you’ve groomed all to hell with your internalized misogyny. How can you not see that with your age!???

Wuque fucking stopped a woman(en) from hurting men who’d plainly just rape threatened them! Not even a threat, it was a plan. He’s a fucking anime mc with that forgiveness bullshit, and he’s naive as all hell because he’d never left the mountain until then so why is he in charge damnit. “She’s just a woman,” brother huuuuuh??? You were raised by the most badass women on the continent, the hell are you saying? What’s coming outta your face rn???

I know that the sisters wouldn’t want to mention their mom, but the villain parents fucking SAW the body. It’s OBVIOUS they died around the same time. Jiang Qin might have even mentioned something about delivering babies soon to them as he passed through(?). Come on! And I can’t see Auntie Tu as someone who’d diminish the work of women—internalized misogynist, yeah, but she’s still the most “real” women in terms of being herself/not conforming (personality wise) that we have so far. [Edit: forgot they seemed to just keep him in the dark. But Wan Chu must’ve helped somehow with the bodies right.] There’s no way Xiaoyu shouldn’t say “my parents’ killer” instead of just his dad.

Speaking of her, the Swan Palm Hand maiden(?), that death? Hellooooo? She protected herself whilst PREGNANT very competently and then she’s just choked???? Fuck off. I refuse to believe anything but a man wrote this. You can’t just flip it like that, especially when the babies are out and she’s got even more of those “mom hormones” driving her into protection mode (she seemed the type to go all out with that).

That whole scene woulda been different if I’d gotten ahold of it for sure. I super hate women being diminished and it’s only perpetuating the oppression in media. No, not saying “it shouldn’t be allowed,” if it’s for a narrative purpose, then it’s proper writing, if it’s just being lazy, then cut. It. Out. And don’t “well, culture” me, women can be and HAVE been their own people in the most oppressive atmospheres. It especially pisses me off when a woman’s suffering is used just to highlight some special dick-having character.
