Someone finally asked Mads & Hugh what [they think] happened during the time skip in TWOTL from arriving in the escape house to the wine scene in the evening.
Hugh: "They just sat there in silence."
Mads: "Well there's a bottle of wine that's opened, I guess they've had a few. I guess it's also a question for the audience, what would you like?" OH HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING and "As you can tell they showered."

i think this is my absolute favorite sequence of events in all of hannibal. will watches dolarhyde nearly choke hannibal out. you can hear hannibal gasping for air and you can see while dolarhyde has him, it does not look like he is able to fight back at all. hannibal looks beat.
if will just stayed put and let this happen, dolarhyde could've killed hannibal, and then will could've (at least tried) to kill dolarhyde. he could've run to get his gun and shot him, and hannibal and dolarhyde would both be dead, just like he originally planned with alana and jack. though obviously he wasn't actually planning it himself, still this eliminates any doubt.
but no, he pulls the knife out of his own shoulder and saves hannibal with it. he saved hannibal. he saved hannibal's life! this is such a "if i can't kill you, nobody can" moment. this is will choosing hannibal and everything that comes with him
and this is the exact moment 'love crime' starts playing. because hannibal saved will by jumping on dolarhyde's shoulders first just before will got his spine broken, and then will saved hannibal directly after. they are finally, after all this time, working in harmony.

What did Hannibal really want for both of them & what’s beautiful?
This is all I ever wanted for you, Will, for both of us.
It’s beautiful.
If Hannibal wanted a murder husband, he didn’t get one. He got a vigilante out of Will, though:
Hannibal: In righteousness the lamb doth judge and make war.
Will never killed anyone innocent, but let’s not forget the not-innocent were all coerced by Hannibal into killing. Hannibal killed plenty innocent and ate them. Hannibal and Will are NOT morally comparable, much less equals, least of all lovers.
But, they did change each other, and that change, for what it’s worth, is beautiful.
Hannibal: If your intention was to kill him, it's because you understand why he did the things he did. It’s beautiful in its own way, giving voice to the unmentionable. 1x02
Hannibal knows that his cannibal life isn’t sustainable. Rather than rotting in prison without dignity, he prefers to die by the hands of someone who understood him. And Will was that unfortunate someone of his choosing, simply because Will could empathize with anyone, any murderer. There’s nothing special about Hannibal. He knows he’s destructive, he’s lonely, he’s the devil. He wants to be ended, by someone who can connect with him.
So, if Will’s intention is to kill him, it’s because he understands Hannibal’s reasons for killing, namely, power over others that is only occasionally justified as vigilante behavior. This, is what Hannibal always wanted for both of them.
So yeah, he was pissed at Will end of season 2 that Will didn’t hunt him down and kill him with his hands—intimate understanding—but instead sold him to the FBI lowlifes aka tried to save him. Whereas Hannibal wanted Will to end him.
Bedelia: You couldn't save Hannibal. Do you think you can save this new one? Your experience of Hannibal's attention is so profoundly harmful. Yet so irresistible.
It’s not irresistible, it’s that he has no choice. Will is not in love with Hannibal. Hannibal abused him and gaslit him and stripped away his every last chance at normalcy. Hannibal, driven by twisted jealousy, made sure that he is Will’s all.
Bedelia: extreme acts of cruelty require a high level of empathy the next time you have an instinct to help someone you might consider crushing them instead it might save you a great deal of trouble.
This (and Hannibal going after his family) leads Will to give up on law enforcement, to quit trying to save Hannibal (and the Tooth Fairy) by catching him, but to crush him—intimately—instead.
Hannibal and Jack chat:
God, the devil, or the Great Red Dragon?
You, me, and the Great Red Dragon.
God = law enforcement, the impartial spectator; the devil = Hannibal; Red Dragon = the psychopath; the lamb = Will.
Is your conscience clear?
As clear as yours.
They both have a hand in the making of the righteous sacrificial lamb.
Hannibal: All Gods demand sacrifices.
Will: I don’t know if I can save myself.
Hannibal’s planned demise by the wrath of the lamb is beautiful.
Will’s transformation from pariah /victim to martyr /victor is beautiful.
That’s all.
