That trope, mostly utilized in drama-themed media (specifically tv shows) where a character is looking at themselves in a mirror, or otherwise indicating they are talking to themselves, and trying to hype themselves up. Saying things like, "You've got one shot at this," or "No matter what happens, there's no turning back," and so on.
The background music is usually quiet with subtle yet dramatic undertones. Bonus points if the character is sweating, clenching their jaw/fists, or otherwise giving physical hints that they are about to Take On A Serious Situation.
And then it cuts out to show that the character is hyping themselves up to finally conquer their archnemesis: the toaster, or the newfangled espresso machine they've just bought, or they're about to attempt to finally fix the leaky pipe under the sink, or - basically any mundane (yet oddly challenging) task.
Variations on the trope include: a few people are in the room, so the camera occasionally pans to their serious expressions as they listen to the main character's "pep talk," or two characters are arguing about how to handle the situation - ("Damn it, we can't afford to get this wrong!).
Idk, no matter how often it pops up, I thoroughly get a kick out of it each and every time.

a/n: Cyndaquil Community Day 2024, I will never forget you being timed for a literal 108 F heat wave. THREE SHINY CYNDAQUIL, AND NOT A ONE OF THEM 3-STARRED.

The first thing Kudou realized was that Yoichi’s big fucking dragon was gone. The second thing Kudou realized was the tiny, stubby-limbed thing squirmed between him and Yoichi, whose snores were being unusually muffled. And the last thing Kudou realized before he would bolt upright was the spattering of open flames that flickered on and off in quick succession.
“Fuck--! Yoichi--!” he yelled, and instinctively shoved Yoichi away. His alarm woke up the creature, who let out a tiny screech and wobbled up on all fours, whose back ignited into a steady flame this time.
“Charizard!” Yoichi gasped, and then froze. One of his long-fingered hands clutched for his belly. Quick calculations went on behind those green eyes, and he nearly was too late to prevent Kudou from yanking his gauntlet on and training its sights onto the creature. “No, wait! Kudou, wait!”
They wrestled for the gauntlet’s straps.
“Get your meta ability to eat it!”
“That is my meta ability!” Yoichi exclaimed, and Kudou was so stunned, he accidentally let Yoichi clip his jaw with a pointy elbow. “Oh, no, I’m so sorry--”
“It changed forms again?”
“Well, I…” Yoichi hesitated. He was sprawled over Kudou, limbs comically attempting to wrap him up, and from this angle, Kudou could hardly read the man’s expression. They heaved for breath; Kudou thought his head was ringing, just a little. “Um… Leader… do you feel alright?”
“No?” Incredulity colored his response. “There’s some kind of rat in our bed, and it’s on fire, like your… meta ability…”
“My brother’s meta ability--”
“No. No. Don’t tell me.”
The creature stumbled in the sheets, attempting to approach. Its squat stature did not permit it to overcome one particular crease, and it tripped with a piteous little wail. Seeing it sprawled out on its belly, frustratedly squeaking, stirred some measure of sympathy in Kudou’s heart.
“It’s so cute,” Yoichi cooed, apparently enthralled.
“Why is your meta ability now mine, that’s the bigger issue!” Kudou cringed away from Yoichi as his now-lover scooped up the creature with zero fear, and plopped it on Kudou’s chest. It felt like a fuzzy hot water bottle. It squeaked again.
“What’s its name?”
“How’d you know Charizard’s? Bruce and I could guess how you got Charmeleon out of the lizard’s sounds, but Charizard’s were way more incoherent.”
“Mm,” Yoichi hummed, and carefully rubbed the creature’s fine-haired scalp with a finger. “I suppose it came from the bond. Do you feel it? Between you and… whatever One for All is now?”
Kudou frowned. He closed his eyes, and tried to isolate his immediate feelings of shock and worry from… aha. It had been so difficult to explain to Yoichi what meta abilities, naturally-appearing ones at least, felt like to their users’ innate senses. Gearshift was something like a gust of air, exhaled with deliberate attention, paired with a twinge in Kudou’s temple as he focused on a specific object.
One for All, apparently, felt like a crackling warmth in his core, and instantly, Kudou knew that he could replicate that otherworldly red bolt that Yoichi used to recall his meta ability to a different dimension. And then, he knew the creature’s name.
“Cyndaquil,” Kudou said aloud, and the fat little thing squeaked in acknowledgment. It nestled firmly by his collarbone. Never before had Kudou felt so gratified that Yoichi’s monster--Yoichi’s evidently transferable meta ability--wasn’t subject to mortal indignities.
“So cute,” Yoichi said again.

I don't remember last I mentioned it but apart from crude nicknames to people (except Chris), he also just puts them in his phone really weird (except Chris, who is literally in his phone as Chris). And I bring this up because in Right's phone, Karen is saved as "Lawful Obligation".

Working in a law firm where one of the partners is very aggressive about SEO optimization tends to lead to... interesting calls. Like from people who don't bother to check what kind of law the firm practices and clearly just searched "lawyer near me".
Or, like I just got, someone who 1) started angry because incoming calls do not get routed directly to the attorneys and 2) wanted to sue a firearms instructor for discrimination because they would not help him get a permit. Because of his disability. Because he is legally blind.

happy birthday to me i celebrated by looking at my favourite sequence of images in the world and crying over it at half past midnight.

i love dnd..i love playing heavy utility/support/backfield and i love having three to six attacks in a turn and an insane ac. at heart im a support player ill get my hands on whatever we're missing in a group
#looks at a druid a fighter and a bard fighter. okay cleric time.#i LOVE playing cleric turns out.#though abjuration wizard is still super super fun its a different flavor of support#it's not buffs it's 'i am going to transfer literally all that damage to myself and war caster style succeed my witchbolt concentration'#doing insane amounts of damage while taking damage (+ with temp hp and then just a lot of hp. im taking the tough feat as soon as possible)#aabria iyengar was right these abjuration wizards are craaaazy. but war domain clerics also fuck hard#my abj wiz is very much an experiment in 'what if someone who is not at all suited to this life tries to adapt as well as she can'#the point is that she isn't a cleric. do u understand. she's not a cleric and that's the point it's the. hbbbgbfhb. she's out here#functioning as a combat medic on some aasimar features + healing kits/potions + arcane ward. Look At Me#i also really enjoy playing nonreligious characters in these worlds where deities 100% exist not in a 'fuck the gods' way but in#a way somewhere between 'i'm all i need' and 'i called and no one answered' and 'may or may not go on an insane power hungry spiral and#try to get a touch of godhood' which is in part very due to my own agnostic and people-loving heart and 'haha what if i icarused this girl'#a resentful caution towards gods an immense respect towards religious companions and 'when your god isn't here to help. i will be'#anyway REACTION arcane ward you don't take damage im fine. next turn reaction shield ward's back up. the thing is.#she will drive her hp down. the ward isn't much like it goes past that temp hp. it's 14hp that shit goes down and carries to her hp#but it never drops. any leveled spell puts hp back into the ward. a 1st lvl shield puts it at 2hp and she can use it again#she is not suited for these conditions but my god it is fun to watch. i care her.#i explained that subclass feature to a player that's not in that campaign and said. like. yeah she can take damage. when her ward drops to#0 it carries to her. any leveled abj spell puts it back up. and she can use it and drive her hp down again.#do u understand what i am explaining to u! do you get it! she is and has always been a punching bag!#she was a very valuable asset to the army and the group she was drafted! into. because when she's there. people just don't fucking go down#aside from her. aside from her. AAAAH. she's so cool. she is very smart i am still riding the high of critting every turn w witchbolt and#reacting to ward a party member against a crit that would have dropped him by taking the hit herself. and she didn't break concentration#badass

my hard drive is defective and I was really stressed out for like 20 minutes but the company is able to replace it and try to recover everything and even covering the shipping costs to do it.
#I checked like 3 times about the price but I don't have to pay anything for it#if it was over $150 to repair it i was going to buy a new one#but their chat bot was surprisingly effective#and the live agent was very quick to answer all my questions and set everything up to get it fixed#im not usually one to recommend brands but Seagate hard drive has fantastic customer service#I'll evaluate again once everything gets sorted out (which might take a while since i have to ship it to the states) but so far; fantastic#(versus telus not letting me change my account name after two years of trying to contact them)#(I've talked to so many people and nobody is able to do it)#(i have to call a specific line on the phone to get transferred to the people that might be able to do it)#(no in person locations will do it - they offered to let me use their store phone to call but the entire issue is im hoh and can't do calls)#anyways. seagate so far has wonderful customer service 10/10

Don't you guys think it's fucked up when Fiona starts dating and sleeping out of the house, leaving Debbie, Carl and Liam kind of for themselves?
Once she started dating Mike she would sleep at his place sometimes which I think it's okay, she was paying the bills and would leave dinner ready and communicate Debs and she was still looking out for them, they had health care and she took them to the clinic and all that. She needs to take care of her, live a life, sleep at her boyfriend sometimes, that's fine and healthy. But then she marry Gus and is often out of there, get together with Sean and doesn't even know what's going on with them anymore (aka "why there's nothing to eat in the fridge" "cause no one is doing the shopping" dialogue with Debbie, not knowing when it's their first day at school, letting Sammy move in and run things after her trailer got fucked by Frank), and then she gets her apartment and moves out completely and like, okay, Ian was a EMT, Lip is a mechanic already I think, she did said she wasn't going to support Debbie after her pregnancy (fucked me thinks), Carl's at military school, but Liam is still a kid! And Debs and Carl are still underage! And they are her responsibility.
It just doesn't sit right with me that Liam didn't at least moved with her.
Specifically Fiona defenders, I would love to hear more about it.
#i could he talking a lot of shit cause i only watched s6 and ahead once and it was some months ago but#i dont think im wrong. i dont there was any sort of explanation or reason or anything like that#she straight up left all behind to start fresh with her apartment her money her expensive chair didnt she#and i want fiona to grow! to do her stuff! to be only a sister to her siblings and not their mom! but she is their legal guardian#yes lip and ian definitely has to help family now. she didnt had to raise them the way she did until s3 but she did and they own her big#at least i think they do. she sacrificed herself out of love for them. made them go to school. gave them a life and some sort of stability#so now its their time to take up the responsibility with her. but thats it. with her. she dont get to abandon them.#mostly cause she is their legal guardian yk. and it was very strictly imposed and explained s3 its from here on until theyre ALL 18#and i somewhat think its okay for her to want liam to be in chicago when she left. she gave them money and he had there more stability#like she had no job yet no place to live he wouldnt have any family around to support him he would have to move to another school is a lot!#but to not make this move legally? to i dont know transfer him to lip or something? to not call and get to know how hes doing?#to not send liam $ once she gets a job or a share of her 50k every month? to not offer him to move with her once she gets her shit together#i dont like it. actually i hate it.#shameless#shameless us#fiona gallagher#og.#s9
