On a scale of “is occasionally forced to bathe” to “Instagram model with sponsors to hoe for” how involved is your OC’s Skincare routine?

Somewhere in the middle? She has a good skincare routine but it's not like. Extensive. She's only 23-24 at the time of the main plot of TLWTCP, so she still has some teenager-ish acne that she can't take care of no matter how hard she tries. She does wash her face quite a bit, but this is mostly because she works out a lot so she regularly ends up taking two showers a day. Occasionally she will go for a facial at a spa to relax a bit.

What are your OC’s food preferences (flavors/textures/spiciness/calories/ when and how they eat) and how did they get that way?

Two words: high calorie. Like I said, she works out a lot, and her physical health is very important both personally and because of her job, so she eats a LOT of food and it's generally very good quality food. She's not really picky about what she eats because this woman eats 3,500 calories a day. She's ALWAYS hungry. She's usually eating whatever they're serving in the cafeteria since she lives in a government compound, but when she has the choice, she likes moderately spicy food, especially crunchy things.

What’s something pointless/petty/unimportant that IRRATIONALLY ANNOYS THE HELL out of your OC?

Chewing gum. Ian used to chew gum on missions. He doesn't anymore.

What’s your OC’s response to being asked for money by a homeless person?

Hmmmm depends heavily on context, but if she has the money on hand and she doesn't see any immediate downside, she'll be pretty generous with her cash. She's never been homeless per se, but she has been in some odd situations where money was hard to come by and she relied on the kindness of strangers, so she definitely sympathizes.

Does your OC get lost easily? What do they do when they do get lost?

No, she doesn't get lost easily, but that's only because she's had a hell of a lot of training. When she was little, she couldn't find her way out of a paper bag and would start crying when Erik did normal parental things like deliberately losing her in the mall. If she does get lost as an adult, which happens sometimes because she often finds herself in unfamiliar places, her first instinct is to text Maria and her second instinct is to set herself in a straight line and start walking downhill or towards/alongside water, whatever is most readily available.

What would STOP your OC from Doing The Right Thing in a tense situation?

Ooo, lots. Caden is a very empathetic and kind person, but she doesn't have what one would consider a normal sense of morality. She's done a hell of a lot to survive, so a few more "bad" things aren't going to weigh too heavily on her if it means getting away with her life. She also has strong attachments to a few people who she'll do almost anything to help, and if you cross her, she will go out of her way to spite you if the opportunity arises.

Realistically, could your OC (in their normal circumstances- i.e. at thier own house/battlecamp/spaceship etc.) keep a small child alive for a week if they had to?  A Dog?  A Houseplant? A rock with a  smiley face painted on?

For sure. Caden may be a disaster in some ways, but she's very put together in the ways that count. She's very responsible and good at managing stressful situations, so though she's not exactly parental, I think she'd have no trouble keeping a kid safe for a week. She also has some experience with training kids for the CDM, but that doesn't always translate well to normal kids. What I'm saying is the kid would live but there might be some tears involved.

If your OC had to take the S.A.T. tomorrow with one night to prep, how would they do?  both emotionally and academically.

Easy money. Caden took the SAT during her brief stint in regular high school and got a 1590 (one question wrong) on the regular portion and bombed the essay portion for her strong opinions. She might not do quite as well as an adult because she's out of practice with the less immediately practical aspects of high school studies, but she would get over a 1500 without breaking a sweat.

What would cause your OC to chose to do something petty/pointlessly cruel?

If she feels you've betrayed her trust, she will go to hell and back to fuck you over and honestly you might be better off just leaving the country and hoping she doesn't hate you enough to track you down.

On a scale of “Complete and Justified nervous breakdown” to “Conquer The Entire Galaxy and become an Immortal God-Emperor”, how well would your OC handle being abducted by Aliens?

Considering the events of the story I'm pretty sure it's option two.

What song is 100% garunteed to get your OC beyond turnt and will be sung loudly and emabarrasingly, either in public or the shower?

"My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light 'Em Up)" by Fall Out Boy. Caden is first and foremost the teenager she never got to be trapped in the body of an adult with a government job.

What perfectly-normal-to-them-thing does your OC do that confuses/pisses off/terrifies thier neighbors?

Well, it depends on the neighbors. Caden has lived in a variety of places and had a variety of strange neighbors, but when she's with the DAM and living on the Ring, her neighbors are military employees who really don't appreciate Caden singing in the shower. Though Caden is good at many things, carrying a tune is not one of them.

Under what circumstances would your OC appear naked in public?

None. Caden is very private about her body.

What thing did your OC’s parents do that your OC wishes they had a better explanation for?

Birth parents: Caden was taken from her birth parents at 4, so she has very hazy, distorted memories of them. If she could know one thing, she would want to know what happened on the day of her abduction. Were they late to pick her up? Why was she left alone and vulnerable on the sidewalk? She has a vague memory that she was leaving school early for something, but she isn't sure and she doesn't know how things came together such that Erik was able to abduct her so easily and never be caught.

Erik: Caden tries to be logical about Shelly's death. She really does try to be. She tries to understand why Erik felt that what happened that night made Shelly enough of a danger to their exposure that he had to kill her, but she can think of a million ways she could have explained the whole situation in such a way that Shelly wouldn't know anything except a random mugging had taken place. Caden will never understand why he killed her first love.

How often does your OC “zone out” or do things on autopilot and how severe have the problems that have arisen from that been?

Caden is a certified C-PTSD haver, so dissociation is a part of daily life for her. She has some severe memory problems from her younger childhood and parts of her teenage years, and sometimes she'll lose several hours at a time. She doesn't do anything outlandish during those hours, just maybe acts a little out of it. The only thing significant about that time is that she doesn't remember it.

How strong or weak is your OC’s Impulse control? What’s the worst thing that happened becuase of thier Impulsivity or inability to be so?

Extremely variable. In situations she's expecting and has been trained for, or in situations where she's in her "work mode," she's very rarely impulsive. When she's out of work mode and not expecting the unexpected, things can get dicey because she sometimes has extreme emotional reactions to things (triggers) that she doesn't understand and isn't fully aware of. Best example of this is when she was so angry at Maria for the immortality thing that she ritually "committed suicide" on a live news feed to show her immortality and prove that she was some sort of messiah. Could happen to anyone!

How does your OC sabotage themselves? 

Caden is extremely suicidal and has been for a long time. Even though (for a variety of reasons) she rarely acts on it, it's a key part of who she is and how she sees herself, and because of that, she doesn't plan for the future. She often does things without considering what the long-term consequences will be, because in the back of her head, she's sure she won't be there for them. She also has been known to take extreme risks because either she doesn't care if she dies (in a life or death situation) or she doesn't care what the repercussions will be if it goes wrong because she can always kill herself later (in less immediately threatening situations).

What’s the trashiest item in your OC’s wardrobe, when was the last time they wore it and why do they still have it?

Caden owns this weird strappy beaded top from her clubbing era after she left the CDM. It covers basically nothing and she wore it once to prove to herself that she DOESN'T have any body image or privacy issues, and then never wore it again because she hated it. She keeps it around because it makes Maria laugh.

How Dehydrated is your OC right now? Are they going to fix this?

Not at all! Caden is an athlete through and through. She was trained to stay hydrated, especially because on a mission you never know when your next drink will come. She usually has a water bottle on her and frequently tries to rehydrate Maria, a known raisin.

What’s your OC smell like?  no, not that “Vanilla and Anxiety” evocative stuff, realistically.  Body odor? what have they been touching all day? When was thier last shower? Did they put on any kind of artificial scent?

Sweat and men's deoderant, mostly. She prefers men's deoderant because she doesn't usually shave her underarms and the formulas for men don't get clumpy and tangled in underarm hair (huge life hack btw. if you don't shave your pits don't use women's deoderant). She also sometimes smells like gunpowder from spending a while at the shooting range, and her favorite shampoo smells like eucalyptus, so if you're close enough to her to smell her hair, you'll probably smell that plus that weird undefineable hair product smell.

hi caden! what does CDM stand for and do you mind me asking why you're leaving it?

Thanks for asking! Long fuckin' story short, the CDM is the Coalition for Democratic Maintenance, a human trafficking assassination death cult. That's a bit of a mouthful, though, so instead I call it a bunch of assholes.

Take all this with a grain of salt and assume it will be subject to change because, as much as I've thought about the CDM, they're not fully fleshed out yet.

The CDM is indeed the Coalition for Democratic Maintenance, a pretty shady EU-based underground organization of government officials of every level, military and ex-military personnel, civilians, and no small number of children who work to, well, maintain democracy. They're responsible for quite a few data leaks, diplomatic crises and miracles, and assassinations the world over, though their work focuses mostly in Europe and North America (and countries with strong ties to Europe and North America). Though many people join the CDM willingly and often bring their children up in it and participate to varying degrees of involvement and intensity, the core of the CDM is much more intense. These people, headed from 2006 to the organization's end in 2027 by Dennis Makovic, are what you would think of as classic genre spies. Think HYDRA (MCU), think The Hand (Daredevil), think whatever the hell Jason Bourne had going on.

They attract all kinds. Conspiracy theorists, gun nuts, philosophers, doomsday preppers. Lots of 'em bring their kids, and the higher-level ones want to make sure we come up right, so there's a training program. Most of the kids there have parents in the organization; all of us got moved around a lot.

They took me when I was four.

Caden didn't come to the CDM via family ties. Caden was taken off the sidewalk outside a school for gifted and talented children in Minneapolis in 2006, right as Makovic was coming to power. This wasn't a coincidence. The man who took her, Erik Hobbes, was, at the time, one of Makovic's best friends. As Makovic climbed the ladder, he and Erik both realized that if they wanted to be prepared for the next fifty years, they would need someone really good, someone out of the ordinary, and they couldn't wait for a member to just happen to have a genius kid. So, they did some poking around and found Janiyah May Davis, a four year old genius, an only child living with her parents in a wealthy suburb of Minneapolis.

As far as what you saw about me leaving, that was because Erik and Mak had a falling out in 2016. Long story, not worth getting into right now, but Erik took me to the east coast of the US and we started over without the CDM. Good fucking riddance. Never liked Mak, anyway.
