BUCKY BARNES x READER
my everything…
Tumblr media
Summary: Bucky comes back from the events of Thunderbolts* and you GOTTA fix his hair with some tough love.
tags: cursing, bucky barnes x reader, fluff, alpine being a lil shit, already married fic, domestic banter turned sweet, cuddles, kisses, wound dressing, no use of y/n or pronouns, DISCUSSION ABOUT ARM IN THE DAMN DISHWASHER.
notes: i know this shit is written like a 4th grader did it and i really just don’t care enough to fix it BC I NEEDED TO GET THIS DISHWASHER DISCUSSION OFF MY CHEST. plz comment!!!
Bucky has been gone for 3 months now. It isnt uncommon for him to leave for long periods of time but, definitely been hard but you picked up some extra shifts to fill the time.
Last night you heard the front door open and close and quiet footsteps approaching your room as not to wake you. Alpine, who was lying on the end of your bed, picked up her head at the noise.
He came in the bedroom and quietly dropped his bag and coat in the corner and crawled into bed behind you and wrapped his arm around your waist. Alpine crawled over, quietly sniffing out the stranger. Immediately she registered who it was and let out multiple happy chirps and head bumps on his back.
He chuckled at her eagerness.
He turned back to you, whispering in your ear, “hey.”
You’re fully awake now, “Bucky!!”
You rolled over and hugged and kissed his face. Which he happily accepted. The room was very dim. You ran your fingers through his hair. “Getting long again, huh?” You laughed.
He let out a sigh, “Yeah, let’s go back to bed. Wanna see you in the morning.”
His tone indicated he was tired so you quickly nodded and leaned your head down into his chest and fell back asleep with Alpine purring between you two.
~~~~
The next morning you woke up as you usually do, 5 AM with the morning orange glow pouring into your room and alpine screaming at your feet.
“Okay okay!” You laughed, rolling out of bed to feed her.
“I hadn’t missed that.” Bucky laughed, covering his head with the blankets.
You get up and feed the beast and return back to your bedroom to see him, propped up on some pillows rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
You’re stopped dead in your tracks when you finally make eye contact with him, seeing what you didn’t see in the dim light last night.
“James…” You say in a quiet voice.
“Huh?” He tilts his head in confusion.
“Baby, have you looked in the mirror lately?” You laughed.
“Yeah, why?”
“Because, I love you, but that haircut has to go.” You said annoyed.
“I knew you were gonna say something.” He chuckled.
“Also where the fuck is your arm?” You said crossing your arms.
He stayed silent but you both knew the answer.
“James. Bathroom. Now.” He groaned like a child being punished but rolled out of bed in just a wife beater and some black briefs, which kinda made you less mad at him. He still got a perky little butt you loved from day one.
You followed him into the bathroom and rummaged through the drawers looking for your clippers. He assumed his position, sitting on the side of the tub.
You plugged them in and turned around to face him. Those beautiful blue eyes staring up at you like you hung the moon.
After all these years, you could never truly be mad at him. But you have to act like it so he doesn’t think you’re a pushover.
“Bug…” you say playing with the ends of his hair.
“I know. I know.” He said waving your hand away.
“Like I wouldn’t be so mad if this didn’t look like shit! It looks like you got your hair cut from a middle aged white lady!” You laughed.
“I just haven’t had time.” He says turning his head to watch Alpine push her way into the bathroom, chirping again when she saw him. “Hi my love!” He says patting his lap. She immediately runs over and leaps into his lap and nuzzling his chin.
You flick on the clippers. “She missed you…” you said in a softer tone.
“You think?” He said petting her gently as you made long strokes across his head.
Alpine swatting at the falling pieces of hair.
“Hey hey!” You say swatting the hair out of her paws and mouth. “No!”
She looks up at you confused.
“What’s that for?” Bucky said petting her back.
“James… don’t even get me started.” You say continuing to work your way around his head, more annoyed this time.
“Tell me.”
“Well, YOUR child decided it was a good idea to eat eighteen of my little hair ties while you were gone.” You say while scratching her ears.
“Okay…” he says, inquiring further.
“Okay? Well it cost me two fucking grand on emergency surgery, Buck!”
“Oh.”
“Yeah. Oh! You should be lucky I took her in the second she stopped eating.”
He laughed and looked down at her on his lap, “Did my baby girl give mommy a hard time while Daddy was gone?” She chirped and head butted his chest.
“Don’t laugh! She could have died! Look!” You say reaching over to pick her up under the arms. Her legs sway below her, exposing her belly with a dark pink scar running down her abdomen and hair clipped in a perfect square.
He reached out and grabbed her with his one arm, from your grasp, kissing her forehead. “Oh my poor baby!” He said flipping her onto her back in the crook of his arm like a baby. “She didn’t mean it.” He says looking up at you with those pleading eyes again.
Everytime you see him with that tiny white cat, you cannot help but to feel your heart swell. Just the image of this big strong man with a tiny cat cradled in his arm is enough to melt anyone’s heart.
“Okay okay, well you’re not out of the doghouse yet.” You say finishing up his hair.
“Oh yeah?” He says rocking her softly.
You flip off the clippers and grab the scissors on the counter and walk back over to him, waving the scissors in his face, and bending down to eye level.
“What the fuck did I say about putting your arm in the dishwasher? Huh?” You say grabbing his chin and standing back up straight.
“But-“ he started, trying to defend himself.
“No buts Bucky! That’s nasty!” You say putting your hands on your hips.
“How is it nasty?” He says annoyed.
“Because Buck, you go out and beat the shit out of people with the arm, getting dead guy blood and dirt all over it. Then you come home and put that shit in the same place where we put plates, which we eat off of!” You say, raising your tone again.
“Well-…” he pauses.
You bend back down and kiss his forehead. “My love, I’ve told you, if you want it cleaned, that’s not a problem. Just let me clean it. In the tub. Where I can use bleach to scrub the tub afterwards.”
“Yeah but that means you have to do extra work for me….” He says with tears in his eyes, you can tell no one has ever done this for him before.
You walk over and hug his head onto your stomach. “Bug… listen to me…”
He tilts his head upward to indicate him listening.
“That’s what marriage is about. I’m not doing this because I hate you. I’m doing this because I love you, and I love myself because I don’t wanna eat off plates with dead guy juices on it, but mostly because I love you!”
He chuckles and sniffs, turning his head to wipe his nose on his shoulder. “You sure?” He says putting the cat down onto the floor.
You pull yourself off him and kneel onto the floor in front of him, cupping his cheeks into your hands, thumbing away the stray tears. “Bucky Barnes…. I wouldn’t have taken your last name if I thought you were a burden to me. You did such a good job during the courting phase to show me the good, the bad, and the ugly… and I still said yes.”
He cracked a smile and looked up at you.
“The lengths I would go to give you everything I have… my life, my soul, my body, and everything I own. You are my everything.”
He nodded and pulled you into a warm hug. “I love you so much.” He said with a broken tone.
“I love you too, Bug.”
You spend the next few seconds of the hug rubbing your hands over his back. He winced slightly every time you touched his right side.
“Buck…” you said in a worried tone.
You pull back from the hug and lift up his tank top.
“Baby… that looks bad.” You sighed, sitting back on your heels.
He nodded slowly.
You turn around to grab the first aid kit from the bottom of the cabinet and crawl over to him.
You put some rubbing alcohol onto a cotton pad and start to slowly dab the huge cut running down his back around to his stomach. He scrunched his eyes and clenched his fist and hissed quietly.
“Shhh… I know baby. But it’s gonna get infected if you don’t let me dress it. How long ago did this happen?”
“Couple days…” he mumbled through gritted teeth.
“Did you put anything on it? Actually I don’t wanna know the answer.” You said quickly.
You continue patting the scratch, using up about half of your cotton pads that are now soaked in blood.
He’s white knuckling the side of the tub by time you’re finished.
“Can you do something for me?” You say, cleaning your mess of bloody cotton balls littering the floor.
“I guess?” He says pulling his shirt back down.
“Will you tell me about your wounds.”
He scoffs, “Why?”
“Do I have to repeat the conversation we just had?”
“… no” he muttered.
“Okay then, I don’t want you unnecessarily suffering. Period. End of story. Got it?” You say standing up and opening the bathroom door.
“Got it.”
“Now come on, I’m making you breakfast.” He chuckles and bounces up to follow you to the kitchen.
Game Over
Tumblr media
(Here's a story from one of the polls I made a while back. I hope you enjoy ;) The premise is me and my boyfriend keeps getting cock blocked by his little brother but tonight I get my revenge.)
"Mmmmm mmmmm" moaned Raymond making out with his boyfriend Sean. As they undress eachother their cocks became erect and rubbed against eachother.
Sean pulled off Raymonds underwear and released his musk into the room. With much anticipation he moves in on his meal. Suddenly a scream is heard.
"GODDAMMIT!!" Shouted Tony, Sean's brother, from across the hall. Raymond and Sean paused, kocked back into reality. They grinned and resummed. But as Sean began sucking Raymond off another scream echo'd. "MOTHER FUCKER!!"
Tony has been on a losing streak on his online game and nightly his loud screams would interupt Raymond and Sean's fun. The pair took another look at eachother when suddenly another scream was heard. "You guys suck!"
"Forget it! Moods killed . . ." Sean said tossing his hands in the air.
Raymond rolled his eyes "He's been like this NIGHTLY for a whole month. I'm gonna. . ."
Before Raymond could finish his thought Sean put his finger on his mouth. "Its okay Ray Ray, he'll probably fall asleep soon. . . We'll try again then."
"Uggghhhhh. . . But I'm already turned off by his screams."
"Damn. . . Guess we'll try again tomorrow. . ."
Raymond lied in bed annoyed. He wanted to get back at Tony for cock blocking him these passed few weeks. As Sean got up to go into the shower, Raymond saw that Sean was taking his phone with him. He then hatched a scheme knowing that his boyfriend is gonna be in there for at least an hour, when Sean takes his phone in he spends most of the time watching videos and laughing at memes so he had plenty of time.
As soon as Sean closed the door Raymond quietly got up and walked into the hallway in the nude. He approached Tony's room with a spare key they had incase of emergencies and unlocked his door. Raymobd peeked in and saw Tony shouting at his screen with his noise-canceling headphones on. "Perfect he can't hear me. . .little brat" he thought as he approached his prey. As he got behind Tony he realized he was playing naked, his computer and several screens heating up the room causing him to be too hot and stripped down. Raymond almost drooled as he grabs Tony all of a sudden. Tony's focus on his game was his downfall as Raymond rippes him from his chair and bent him over his bed.
"What the fu-" Tony tried to scream however Raymond covered Tony's mouth with his hands. Raymond pulls out Tony's 'lucky' butt plug from his ass and shoves his cock in. Tony tried to scream put Raymond put his hand over gis throat turning them hollow. Tony was confused as his body began to warm up with a lustful sensation. He stopped struggling as he fell to his bed almost succumbing to his fate, drooling as his mind goes blank. Raymond began focusing on the shape he wanted as Tony's limbs began to shrink and sink into him. His neck expanding as what looked like forskin surrounds his head. His body going from a flat human body to a thick round shaft. Raymond grabbed a pair of Tony's underwear and sniffed it as his victim slowly shrinks. Veins appearing as he throbbed. Soon Tony took his final shape as a thick juicy cock, Raymonds normal pubic hair changing to the light purple color of Tony's hair.
"Thats what you get for cock blocking bitch!" Raymond exclaimed in joy. He rubbed his new cock admiring his work. "Oh looks like you added a whole 6 inches! Thanks a lot bro!" Raymond began to jack off moaning in joy having to hold in his load nightly. Days of having to fuck various coworkers and clients in the office bathroom are now coming to an end. His jerking off was cut short as he heard an annoyed voice. "Ahem . . . What do we have here?" An annoyed Sean came into Tony's room. "B-babe?! You're done fast!" Raymond stuttered.
"I was out of shampoo so I just rinsed my body off" Sean said tapping his foot "I said not to do anything. What the hell man".
"Well. . . I was mad and couldn't think straight. Besides his mind is blanked out for at least another hour. So we can finally fuck in peace."
Sean raised an eyebrow.
Raymond got on Tony's bed and spread his legs, Tony's dick body presented in all its glory. "You know you want us . . ." Raymond said full of lust.
Sean rolled his eyes. "Sure but as punishment I'm gonna do all the work. . . You have to stay still".
"Fine. . ." Raymond sighed. He wasn't opposed to having Sean do all the work but now he can't go all out like he wanted.
"Now lie perfectly still love" Sean said suggestively.
Raymond lied down with Tony fully erect, his partially conscious mind throbbing at the sight of his older brother. Sean opened his mouth and stuffed his face with Raymond's giant cock. "MMmmm MMmmmm" Sean moaned as he envelope's his former brother with his mouth. "God he tastes so good~!" Sean thought. He sensed Raymond's legs trying to wrap around him, but he raised his finger and wagged it side to side, telling him, 'No you are just my sex slave today, no moving'. Sean continued to deep throat the massive rocket before him as he also gave Raymond a hand job. "Slurp slurp, gulp" Sean moaned as he sucked in all of Raymond's precum. "Uhhh uhhhh . . ." Raymond felt his tip being licked so that Sean can taste his new cock, even feeling the tip enter his shaft a bit. Raymond gripped the bed as Sean continued to go down on him. Sean's lips tighten around Raymond's dick as he moved his head back and forth, until he slid Tony's cock body out of his mouth.
Sean enjoyed his boyfriend's new cock in his mouth long enough. He turned around and shoved Raymond's dick into his ass and started riding him reverse cowgirl style. Raymond gripped Tony's bed and curled his toes as his boyfriend pounds his new dick full force with his plump bottom ass. "F-faster faster!" Raymond shouted as Sean tightened his ass cheeks and bounced up and down his former brother like a thick dildo. As Sean kept riding he felt himself fall over all of a sudden as Raymond couldn't hold back any longer. He got up and started fucking his boyfriend like a wild beast. "Uhhh uhhhh .. . no fair!" Sean moaned into the bed "But keep going!!!" He screamed as his ass gets destroyed by his boyfriend's new cock, underestimating how much length and girth his brother's body added to it when Raymond absorbed him. Raymond pounded Sean's ass faster and harder as the pair moaned. In the corner of Raymond's eyes he saw a pile of clothes Tony took off when he striped down. Raymond grabbed a sock and stuffed into Sean's mouth. Sean moaned as his ass gets destroyed with his brother's sock in him. The taste fill his mouth as the salty sweet feeling fills his mouth, with a hot mess filling his ass. Raymond grabbed Tony's underwear and gave it a big whiff as he fucked Sean. Sean cums multiple times, soaking Tony's bed with his seamen, however Raymond didn't care that his boyfriend finished, he kept fucking him until Raymond came 3 more times. After pounding his boyfriend for what felt like an hour, Raymond bent over his boyfriend and grabbed him as he released his load into Sean's ass. Gallons of cum fills his boyfriend's ass and expands his stomach. The pair kept cumming until they fall over and embrace. The two kiss and Sean looks at Raymond's now limp cock, cum still dripping out. "Looks like my little bro made a mess in me~" Sean said rubbing his stomach. The amount of cum in him made him look pregnant. "Yeah, I'm glad he was cock blocking us for so long, that release was amazing!" Raymond said stroking his cock.
All of a sudden Raymond's dick started moving a bit on his own.
"Uh oh, looks like Tony woke up babe!" Raymond snickered.
Sean bent over and gave Tony a little kiss on the tip. "Sorry little bro, your new body is amazing so you are gonna stay like that! At least until you made up for all the times you cock blocked us!"
Sean and Raymond snickered as they prepare for round two.
Tony stayed as Raymond's dick for several weeks where the pair fucked several times a day.
part 4 of Please for God's sake, rest
“What happened? I don't think I've ever seen John cry like that or even cry at all." Clay whispered, using his hair to pull the blanket over them. “I honestly don't know. I was walking by and I heard what sounded like crying so I came to check on him. He was crying but stopped when I walked in. He tried to play it off like he wasn't but I could tell he was. After a minute I got him to talk about it and he just started crying again. Poor JD feels like he shouldn't have to be taken care of since he's the oldest. I told him that's not true, it doesn't matter how old he is, he can be taken care of. I think the reason we never saw him cry is because he never let himself cry around us. He felt he had to be the strong big brother, so any tears he had, he'd hold them in. That's not healthy, I think once he started, it all came crashing down on him.” Floyd whispered while rubbing John Dory's back. Clay looked down at JD sadly, was that true? Clay hugged John from behind. Silence fell over them and soon they were asleep as well.
Bruce and Branch went to check on John Dory after not seeing Clay or Floyd for a while. They opened the door to see the three of them squished on to the bed. Branch let out a quiet giggle and went to get the camera to document the moment. Bruce stood there for a minute, listening and watching how his brothers were such themselves. Clay had reached over, grabbed a book and fell asleep with it on his face. John Dory was drooling onto Floyds shirt and snoring softly. Floyd was always the quiet sleeper, sometimes they thought he had died but the steady rise and fall of his chest told him otherwise. They all looked so content, almost made Bruce wish he could squeeze in there with them. Branch came back with the camera and was about to take a picture when Bruce stopped him. “Just wait a moment. You can't tell me they don't look comfortable." Bruce said, holding Branch’s arm. Branch looked at his brothers, they did comfortable. They looked like nothing had changed, like they hadn't missed twenty years of each other's lives. Branch smiles softly before snapping the picture. Shaking it while talking to Bruce cheekily “Poppy is gonna love this one." Bruce chuckled and ruffled Branch's hair, enjoying how he fell so easily into the little brother role. The role of taking embarrassing pictures and sharing private information.  Bruce decided to let his brothers sleep, turning to offer Branch a lesson in cooking one of the dinners their grandma used to make. Branch wouldn't turn that down, he had missed her cooking and she sadly never wrote down any of her recipes. The two of them got cooking, chatting about this and that as they cooked. The smell of the food flooded the bunker, hitting Floyd's nose first. He sleepily sniffed the air, the smell giving him a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Floyd detangled himself from JD, making sure to cover them back up after he got up. Floyd made his way down into the bunker to the kitchen. Once in the kitchen, Floyd watched his brothers cook and talk, jokes being made as food was tasted. It was comforting, the warm fuzzy feeling spread through his body. A few minutes had passed for either of them noticed Floyd had walked in and sat at the table. When did you get here?" Branch asked after doing a double take. Bruce let out a ‘hmm?’ and looked over his shoulder. Floyd smiled softly, still a little sleepy. “A few minutes ago, whatever you guys are cooking smells good.” Floyd said before walking over to the kitchen to get a better look at the food. Bruce was showing Branch how to make their grandma's zucchini boats recipe, as kids they didn't care for it but now they'd enjoy it. They conversated as the food cooked, Floyd hopped up on the counter to get out of the way. “Counters are for glasses, not asses. Get your butt down." Bruce joked, pointing the end of a spatula at him. “Geez, ok, ok." Floyd said before getting down, hold his hands up in defense. Branch chuckled “Did you get that from Grandma too?" “Ha ha, very funny. Kind of, she used to say ‘counters are for cups not butts’. She never swore around us and tried to make sure we didn't swear either. God, the amount of times she yelled at John and Clay for swearing was a little ridiculous." Bruce responded as he stirred the vegetables in the pot. "And if it got really bad, she'd wash their mouths out with soap. Clay swallowed some once and was convinced he was gonna burp bubbles. Watching him try and make that happen was very entertaining.” Floyd said, laughing at the memory while leaning against the counter. The light hearted conversation continued and soon the food was done. Clay had woken up and came down as the table was set. “Well look who decided to join us? What, did John's snoring wake you up?" Bruce teased as Clay joined them at the table. “ No, the smell of good food did. Is this what I think it is?” Clay asked, seeing what had been cooking. Bruce let out a ‘mhm’ as he set up a plate to take up to John Dory. They began eating, eyes tearing up because Bruce had made it just like their grandma had.
Bruce came back down to see his little brothers eating with tears in their eyes. “What's wrong?" He asked, panicking a little, thinking he had messed it up somehow. " It tastes just how grandma used to make it.” Floyd said sadly, food still in his mouth. It tugged at Bruce's heart strings to see his brothers look so sad but so happy. He made himself a plate and dug in, they were right. It really did taste how grandma used to make it. They ate, really enjoying the food before sitting down to watch a movie, every so often one of them going to check on John Dory. The day ended with each of them content and happy, old memories and new ones ready to be made.
its done, what do you think?
Chapter 1 Part 4
TW: penetration!
After a few minutes Dave raised his arm and asked Tim if he wants to smell his armpit, the answer to that question came with Tim just shoving his face in Daves armpit, sniffing the smell of mose, then he started lickeing the sweet of his boyfriend. Tim looked at Dave who was smiling gently, then got closer to kiss him. Dave started flexing his huge biceps in Tims face, and Tim started kissing and biteung them, then he squeezed his meaty pecs, shoving his face in-between them. Tim got up and then sat on Daves tummy, with both of his hands on Daves chest. Dave was looking at him in awe, he was about to get dominated by a nerd, and his bulge was growing in his pants. Tim kissed Dave, it was a long kiss, then he put his butt on Daves giant bulge, so that his asshole would be plugged by it. It felt amazing. As Daves bulge was growing bigger and bigger, Tim started licking his abs, then layed on Dave's chest and started biteing it. They're dick were touching eatchother thrue they're pants. Dave started moaning at the pleasure of his chest being biten. Tim started kissing Dave upwards, from his belly to his chest, his neck, his face and then stopped, looked him in the eyes and whispered "I love you and I don't know who made me this lucky to have a boyfriend like you!" then kissed his mouth, they're tongs touching and then stopped by biteing his lower lip. "How are you so good at this?" Dave asked "I don't know, but I think you like it." Tim answered looking at his bulge that rows thrue the pats cratch where the button popped off. Tim then rows up, and took off his underwear, his dick pointing at his boyfriends mouth. It was supriseingly big for such a small guy. Dave took it got it closer to his mouth and started lickeing it, then put it in his mouth and started to suck on it. Tim started moaning loudly, while Dave was sucking on his dick and grabbing his own dick and started to squish it hardly, but Tim grabbed his hand and said to him. "We are leaving that for later" *and winked* After Dave swolloed a good dose of cum, Tim kissed him and then sat back on his belly, with his dick laying in-between Daves pecs. Dave couldn't hold much longer, he needed to cum, he was too exited, in that moment Tim took off his pants and underpants and a giant cock rows, Dave couldn't hold much longer, but Tim opened his butthole and sad on it with the loudest moan yet, Daves dick entered the nerds ass so perfectly and then he started pumping up and down, feeling Tims stomach with a warm dose of cum that he held in the whole evening. They both moaned as the fucking was so amazing. They fucked for the next half an hour until Tim was so feelled with cum that he fell on Daves chest. Tim looked at Dave who was in shock "I love you" Tim said, Dave calmed down, smiled and kissed Tim "I love you too!". Then they fell asleep, Tim on Daves pecs that were now covered in his own cum, and Dave holding his boyfriend tightly with his giant dick still holding up.
Part 18 <- -> Part 20
Tumblr media
I walked along the path, enjoying the feel of being outside. The sun was out and it was a beautiful, if chilly, day. It was strange, living underground. There was no natural light, no way of telling the weather outside, no connection to the outside world unless you left it. I missed walking to work, hearing the rain as I fell asleep, and natural light.
So I’d decided to get off my butt and do something about it. Sam had been gone three days now and somehow, the bunker felt even smaller with only three of us in it, not four.
I was feeling so much better, my chest not aching when I was away from Dean. He was still being very ...enthusiastic about following the doctor’s instructions: holding me to his side, cuddling me, encouraging me to scent him. It was sweet.
But between being stuck underground and being coddled, it was a bit suffocating. Now that I wasn't feeling terrible every time I wasn't with Dean, I wanted some space, some normality.
And it was a beautiful day.
I’d forgotten my phone, which was probably good. Aren't you meant to be mindful when walking or something? Focus on the experience or some such. I was inadvertently doing that, and it turned out to be pretty good.
I was almost disappointed when the bunker came back into view. But, it had been a very nice walk, and I was a bit thirsty.
I took one last look around, trying to drink in the feel of being outside. Then I turned back to the heavy door and tried to heave it open. Locked. I knocked instead.
I heard rushed heavy footsteps on the metal steps inside and then the door was swinging in. “Hey, De- whoa! What?!” I exclaimed as the door opened to reveal Dean with a gun pointed at me.
He sniffed the air and then lowered the gun, reaching out to grab my hand and roughly pull me inside. He still hadn’t said anything.
“Dean, what the hell?!”
He growled. I shivered and shut up, noticing the edge of agitation on all of his features. He led me down the stairs, my hand stuck in his vice-like grip. At the bottom of the stairs he turned to face me, eyes raking all over me and then reaching forward to scent me.
Madi came running in just as Dean was finishing his apparent inspection. “Oh thank God, you found her!”
“Where were you?” Dean demanded, his voice lower and more threatening than I’d heard it before.
“I went for a walk, what is up with you?!”
“You left the bunker!”
“Yeah, and?”
He hit the metal railing behind me, making me jump as the loud noise echoed around the room. “What the hell were you doing?”
“I went for a walk! Jeez, what's with the third degree?!”
“You LEFT THE BUNKER!” he roared.
I flinched. Madi looked at me with wide, worried eyes. “Alpha-” she started.
“Stay out of it, Omega,” he bit at her. She hung her head in submission.
He turned back to me, clenching his fists. “You left the bunker, without permission-”
“Permission?! I didn't realise I was a freaking prisoner!”
His eyes narrowed, “If you want to be a member of this Pack then you will follow my rules.”
“I didn't realise I’d get kicked out of a Pack I'm not even in yet after going for one walk!” Treacherous tears sprang to my eyes and I angrily brushed them away. I pushed past Dean and ran towards his room.
“Dean,” I heard Madi say in a low, deliberately calm voice behind me, “You need to calm down first.”
I slammed the door behind me and locked it, then fell on the bed and dissolved into tears.
---
A little while later there was a gentle knocking at the door. I ignored it.
“Y/N?” I heard Dean call. His voice was much softer than the angry growl he'd had in the entryway. “I'm sorry, sweetheart. Can you please open the door?”
I ignored him, still upset and angry, lying on the bed. What a controlling asshole.
Probably only a minute before he just orders me to open it, anyway. Or picks the lock, Sam did that on the house with the vampires.
Please, sweetheart?”
Can't believe he's contemplating kicking me out because I went for a walk. I wiped more tears away from my eyes.
“I'm not going to order you, I know I fucked up.”
Huh, that was a surprise. Still, no.
“I'm sorry, Y/N. That reaction was uncalled for. Can you please open the door so I can apologise?”
He was chipping away at the ice of my resolve, but I still wasn’t thawed yet.
“Please, Omega,” he said in a broken voice. “Please.”
I slowly slid off the bed and went to the door. I flicked the lock and then walked back to the bed, sitting against the headboard with my arms crossed.
He opened the door and slowly entered, his hands up in front of him. “Omega, I am so, so sorry. I didn't mean to imply that I was going to kick you out of the Pack. I would never kick you out. I was angry and I spoke without thinking.”
“And what exactly is it that I did that made you so angry?” I couldn't keep the tears out of my voice, but I tried.
He took a deep breath. “I couldn't find you. You didn't answer your phone, I searched the whole bunker top to bottom. At first I thought you just couldn't hear me, and then I was worried you'd fainted or something somewhere obscure and needed urgent help, and then I thought you might have been captured by one of our enemies. There are an awful lot of things that can happen to people in our line of work, especially to those who can't defend themselves but are useful as ...leverage.” He ran his hand down his face, he looked broken.
“...Oh.”
I felt a bit bad. I hadn't realised I was putting him through that.
“So when you came back I was so relieved, but I was still scared of losing you and angry that you'd just left without saying anything. I- I didn't mean to say you had to ask permission, that's not what I meant.”
“But I should have told you where I was going,” I said quietly.
He bit his lip.
I sighed, “You may as well just say whatever it is you're thinking. I can tell you’re trying to bite your tongue about something.”
“You don’t have to ask me for permission, that was the wrong word. But… I still don’t want you going out, alone.”
“Seriously?! It’s not like I’m proposing to walk through the crime capital of the world, at night, in a bikini, with a neon sign around my neck. I went for a walk!”
“I know, sweetheart, I know. I must sound so overprotective and ridiculous right now. But amateurs get killed. They just do. And Sammy and me, well, we have a lot of people who’d like to get one over us, or take revenge on us. And finding my unprotected mate would take the cake for many of them.”
“So, what, Madi doesn’t go anywhere alone? Ever?”
“No, she does. We’re safer here than if we were on a case. Often we won’t let her go out alone if there are monsters we’re hunting or we’re not sure yet what’s going on in a town. But yeah, she definitely goes places alone, both here and elsewhere.”
“But I can’t?” I said with a pout.
“I’m not trying to have different rules here or anything. First of all, she tells us where she’s going. It’s not about permission, it’s about communication. And secondly, she trains. She carries a phone and concealed weapons. She’s not an expert, but she’s not an amateur anymore.”
“And you and Sam just get to do whatever because you’re Alphas and men and nothing can touch you two, oh, except for bullets.”
He grimaced. “Ok, yeah, I deserve that. It’s not about us being Alphas or being male. But, you know, we’re big, we’re experienced, we can hold our own in a fight. There are female hunters who are just as good as us. But, little one, you’re not a hunter, you’re not a fighter. You can be, if you want to be. But until you are, you need to be careful.”
“I genuinely lived my life perfectly fine, walked everywhere perfectly fine, frequently alone, before I met you,” I said sullenly.
“I know. Being my mate, well, it puts a target on your back.” He scratched the back of his neck. “It’s, umm, it’s not too late to decide this isn’t for you…”
I shook my head. “That’s not what I want, Dean.”
He let go a ragged breath. “I’m sorry, sweetheart, I really am. I shouldn’t have reacted that way this morning. But I also really, really need you to heed my warnings about the danger that our line of work puts you in. I need to keep you safe.”
“Fiiiine,” I huffed. “You know, I wasn’t trying to ignore you. I did what you said when we went on that case. But you never said anything about while we're here. I mean, yeah, you were weirdly 'don't walk home alone’ back home too, but I thought it was because it was night time.”
“I know. Well, I know that now. Madi helped me see some sense before I came down here. I know we came here in the beginning and then pretty instantly went on a hunt, and then I was injured, and then you were sick. So this is probably the first time you've actually been feeling fine and ready to go be a normal person, and I forgot there's still stuff you don’t know so I didn't tell you. I don't blame you, sweetheart.”
I nodded and sniffled a little, the after effects of all of my tears. He stepped closer and opened his arms, then stepped closer again. I nodded and he quickly crossed the rest of the way to the bed, gathering me in a hug and sitting me on his lap. I snuggled into him.
He stroked my cheek. “Sorry, ‘mega,” he whispered, kissing my forehead.
---
“Sam!!” Madi yelled, jumping into his arms. “You didn't tell me you were coming home!”
“And miss this homecoming?”
 She squealed as he span her around, her legs around his waist.
“No vomiting on the table,” Dean said in a mock stern voice. I stood awkwardly in the back of the room, enjoying watching the joy of their reunion but feeling a bit of trepidation about how my body would react to Sam.
Sam laughed at Dean, “So I'll just keep getting her dizzy and aim her at your bed instead?”
He stopped spinning as she leant down and captured his lips in a passionate kiss.
“Alright, alright, get a room,” Dean huffed. “Actually, don’t, first you have to tell me how the hunt went.”
Sam set Madi down, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and cuddling her to him. “Bit of a bust, it wasn't what Claire thought. I stayed out there an extra day trying to convince her to drop this, but she's convinced there's something out there and we're all missing it. She’s, uh, not exactly keen on listening to me. I got a bit of grudging acceptance most of the time, but when I really pushed back she straight out challenged me. I'm not going to be able to reign her in if she really goes down a path.”
Dean swore under his breath. “Alright, thanks. You guys go be gross in your own room.”
*********
The moon was high in the sky, the town asleep. Satori sat on a tree branch, watching the wolf to make sure he wouldn’t get close. They’ve doing the same thing for weeks- months even. Staring at each other from across the yard, making sure the other wouldn’t touch the human inside. Wakatoshi growled, stalking towards the house through the bushes. He sniffed the ground, continuing up to the door before he was tackled to his back, “Hello, Wakatoshi! What are you doing here?” He growled, human features appearing before Satori, “What do you want, Tendō?” Satori smirked, “So aggressive- oh!” He was kicked off, back hitting the soft grass as Wakatoshi was now on him, “Now, now, play nice,”
He giggled to himself. Wakatoshi growled, his ears flat against his head, drool dripping onto Satori’s face, “Bad puppy!” He disappeared as Wakatoshi bit down, skimming the undead flesh of his neck. Wakatoshi snarled as the black smoke cleared, the wolf running towards Satori and pouncing on him. Wakatoshi dug his claws into Satori’s chest, the undead hissing at him before turning to smoke again, “Don’t you have some butts to sniff, Wakatoshi?” Satori’s wounds healed up, steam rising from his body. Wakatoshi growled, the smell of blood filling his senses. His ears perked, catching the faint ‘squeak’ of the door. The two looked over, watching as the half asleep human rubbed his eyes before they went wide, “What the fuck.”
(Y/N) looked around his yard, being woken up by what he thought was horny raccoons only to see a pale man and a wolf. He slammed the door shut, Satori appearing in front of it and slamming his face into it, “Shit!” He held his nose, the pain making his eyes water, “Good job,” Satori scrawled at him. He knocked. Nothing. ‘Fucker,’ He thought, sighting an open window and disappearing to it, coming face to face with (Y/N) in his bedroom. He climbed in, “Hello-” He ducked as a lamp was thrown at him, turning back to the human to see the door wide open. (Y/N) ran down the stair, bumping into his couch as he ran out of his house and away from the dead thing.
Satori appeared in front of him, “Now, now, I only want to- son of a bitch!” He fell to his knees, hands over his crotch as (Y/N) ran in the opposite direction down the dirt path. His breathing was rigid and uneven, his heart pounding in his chest as fear took over his body. He slipped as the wolf jumped in front of him, running back before Satori appeared. (Y/N) screamed, backing into Wakatoshi’s chest, “Now, where were we?” Satori grabbed (Y/N)’s face, Wakatoshi keeping his body in place with him gripping (Y/N)’s arms. Tears fell from (Y/N)’s face, the terror in his face getting Satori rilled up. He turned his head, studying (Y/N)’s neck, labored breathing and small hiccups the only thing heard.
“Please, please don’t hurt me! I-I don’t want- I don’t want too!” He cried. Wakatoshi softly shushed him, cooing at him before growling at Satori. Satori rolled his eyes before burning his face in (Y/N)’s neck, feeling him shudder as he took a deep breath, “Don’t cry, (Y/N). It will be over soon,” (Y/N) let out a sob, the tears running faster down his face as the two felt a pang in their chests. Wakatoshi growled, “You’re scaring him, Satori.” Satori hissed back, “Shut it.” He caressed (Y/N)’s face, softly kissing his neck before sinking his teeth in. (Y/N) took a sharp inhale, Wakatoshi covering his mouth as he screamed into his hand. He felt his blood dribble down his body before he fell unconscious.
Chris hands were laced with yours as you both sat in the hospital. You were in labor and have been for about 2 hours. As excited as you were to meet your little boy, you were very nervous. It's been a while since you've had a baby of course, and it terrified you.
But with Chris by your side you were perfect.
He was the best husband ever. Getting you ice chips, getting you cold and hot rags when needed, said the sweetest things to you when you needed it, he was definitely a great help, you definitely wouldn't be able to do this without him.
"do you need some more ice baby?" Chris asked as he ran his thumb over your hand. You shook your head, weakly smiling, "no, I'm okay now."
Chris mumbled out 'ok' before sitting back in his chair. You let a very loud groan fall from your lips as a contraction took over your body. Chris quickly sat up and coached you through it.
Just like you, he was terrified as well. He was ready for his bub to get here but seeing you in pain was very hard for him.
Dispite being scared, he knew he needed to be tough for you. When this was all over he knew he would be a sobbing mess and frankly he was ready for it.
-
"okay, it passed." You said as your chest rose and fell. Chris looked up at you with a smile, "you're doing a great job honey, keep it."
You smiled at him, "thanks."
Right after you said that the doctor Walked in. He checked everything out to see if you were doing okay. When he noticed everything was, he walked out of the room and back on to his business.
"god, I want this to be over." You said feeling yourself ready to cry. Chris quickly got up and calmed you.
"hey, hey it's okay. It'll be over soon, I promise baby."
You sniffed, "can we call Nora and see how she's doing? I miss my crazy monkey."
Chris chuckled, pulling his phone out of his pocket. "Of course."
Chris dialed his mom's number, watched it ring a couple of times before she picked up. "Hi ma."
Lisa said hi back and asked you how you were doing. "I'm doing okay."
Chris sighed softly, "we just want to check on Nora, how she?"
Lisa brought the camera to Nora who was beside her. She was confused at first but quickly recognize her daddy and mommy.
"daddy, mommy!"
Her little voice made you so happy. "Hi Nora, how are you pumpkin?"
Nora giggle, "I great. Is brother here?"
Chris shook his head, "no, not yet. He'll be here soon though." Nora nodded, "oh okay."
You and Chris smiled At your daughter, "well, we're going to go now. You be good for grandma okay?"
Nora snickered, "yeah, okay." You and Chris said goodbye to Nora and Lisa before hanging up the phone. "Uhh, I miss her already."
Chris smiled, "me too."
--
You and Chris held off for another hour or so before the contractions grew closer to each other. In other words, it was time for Nolan to arrive.
Chris held onto your hand ready for this moment so pass. Your heart was thumping in your chest as you watched the doctor position herself in between your legs.
"okay mama, I'm going to need you to push as hard as you can on 3." You nodded, "alright.
The doctor started the count down as you exhaled. "1,2,3, push."
You pushed with all your might. It was extremely painful and judging by the way Chris whined, you were gripping his hand extremely hard.
After a count to 10 you took a deep breath and wiped away your tears. "You're doing amazing honey." Chris said as he looked down at you. You couldn't respond because your brain wasn't couldn't make words in the moment.
You soon returned back to pushing all. You were sweating, exhaled, and out of breath. You soon released your breath and relaxed a little.
"he's almost out. Just one more big push okay." You nodded, "alright."
She counted to three and you pushed really hard, as hard as you could. You felt a very sharp pain before you heard a lot wail.
You opened your eyes and saw your baby boy. You let out a cry as the nurse brought him to your chest. You let go of chris' hand and placed it on his little back.
"here's here." You said softly. You looked up at at Chris. He had tears in his eyes as he looked at you both. "Our little boy."
You chuckled and placed a kiss on the now calm babies head.
--
After your long labor, Nolan Leo Evans was here. Chris was of course instantly attached to him. He went with him to get a eye sight and hearing check which he passed and he also changed his first diaper.
Now here you three were sitting in the hospital room. While you feed nolan Chris informed the family on nolans arrival.
He had a smile on his face that couldn't disappear. You were sure his cheeks hurt. He told Nora lastly and judging by the babbling And squealing on the other end of the phone, she was ecstatic.
He promised her she'll be able to meet him the next day; that was enough for her to go straight to bed which she never wants to do.
After saying goodbye Chris hung up the phone and walked over to the hospital bed. "Ah gosh, I can't believe he's here."
Chris ran his hands over Nolan small batch of curls, he cooed.
"I can't either. He looks just like Nora." You said with a chuckle looking down at the sleeping baby.
"he does. Nora is very excited to meet him tomorrow. She went straight to bed while we were still on the phone."
"that's a first." Chris nodded, "oh yeah."
You smiled, "we should get some sleep. I can't wait to see my princess tomorrow and for her to meet her baby brother." You placed a gentle kiss on nolans head before Chris took him from your chest and placed him in his bassinet.
You fell asleep to his low voice talking to Nolan, telling him about the full life he has ahead of him.
--
The next day you woke up early and took a shower. You got yourself in some proper clothes and spent some time with nolan.
Chris made a run to go get Nora and some real food for you. The whole ride over Nora was talking like crazy. She kept asking Chris when they would be at the hospital and how excited she was. Chris was smiling like crazy as he listened to her.
After grabbing the food, Chris made his way back to the hospital. He took Nora's hand and guided her to the room where you were staying.
He opened the door quietly letting Nora walk in first. Nora instantly smiled when she saw you. "Mommy."
She walked over to you and climbed onto the bed. You laughed and gave her a kiss on the cheek. She looked down at her brother and smiled. "Brother?"
You nodded, "yeah, it is your brother. His name is Nolan, can you say Nolan."
"nowan." She tried to say. You and Chris Chuckled at her attempt.
"how about we get a picture of you 3 together." Chris said as he took his phone out of his pocket. You and Nora got situated for the picture. Nora of course being the wiggle worm she is couldn't resist giving her little brother a kiss. Chris snapped the picture just as she did that and it came out perfectly.
He slid his phone back into his pocket deciding to share it later. Right now all he wanted was to enjoy time as a family of 4.
Family of 4 had a really nice ring to it, lucky he'll be using that for a while.
There was something about the morning that was so peaceful. The warm light of the sun peered through the curtains and trailed onto the duvet and part of your arm, moving across your body until it beamed in your tired eyes. Your hair had a musty smell from the rain last night, not having the energy to shower after what happened. You ran your hand over Tom’s side of the bed, the cotton sheets soft against your palm until you pressed your weight onto it to lift yourself up.
The cracks in your back echoed the room, running your fingers through your hair to push it out of your face before putting it up to not be overwhelmed by the smell. As you stretched the rest of your body, you slid over the sheets until your toes hit the cold wooden floor. You got a jolt up your spine before grabbing Tom’s grey sweatshirt on the back of his desk chair, quickly slipping it over your body to warm up from the chilliness of the fall. You could tell winter was upon you, excited to get a light blanket of snow soon.
When you walked over to the dresser, your hands held on each of the drawer handles about to pull until you took a second look at the picture set on the top. A small smile painted on your lips, reminiscing the fond memory like the picture was moving in real life. It was Summer’s first snowfall and despite her name, she loved the winter.
You bought her a big, pink coat with gloves dangled by end of the sleeves that paired with a knitted hat that covered her ears. The three of you were stood outside of the apartment and propped the camera on a window seal as the big flurries fell. With Summer on Tom’s shoulders, you stood close to him and wore his denim jacket and black beanie. Tom liked to keep it, remembering it was one of the first times his life felt whole again since he was gifted with Summer.
After brisking through Tom’s top drawer, not believing how he didn’t organize his socks, you found white, crew socks and slipped them on before walking to the door and carefully turned the doorknob. The sounds of chirping birds could be heard from behind the windows in the living room and no honking cars to wake up the neighborhood, as if everything had fallen back into it’s perfect place.
Summer’s door was cracked open, enough that when you peaked in, you could see her and Tom snuggled on her twin bed. It made Tom look bigger than he was, seeing the pink duvet covering them and his arms were wrapped around her. You were happy to see them together, better than having to walk past an empty room again and Tom asleep on the couch.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜
She sobbed when she got home, relieved to be home and she missed Tom so much. Her arms were tight around his neck and her legs were squeezing around his waist, so it was almost impossible for him to put her down. With her head tucked in his shoulder, the somber cries she whimpered broke his heart as they walked into the apartment. At first they sat on the couch and he ran his hand over her damp hair till it air-dried, forgetting that it was in the middle of the night and all of you needed to go to bed.
“Daddy, can you sleep with me? Please.” Summer asked, her voice so innocent and tired.
“Of course. Of course…” Tom trailed, kissing her temple and rubbing her back. His tears wouldn’t stop either, trailing down his cheeks as he continued to embrace her while they sat together.
They were parted for a month, but it felt like years to them.
“I’m gonna warm up some clothes for her and give her bath, okay?” You put your hand on Tom’s shoulder, rubbing it as he nodded in response.
Summer instantly attached to you when you pulled her away from Tom, uncoiling her arms from his touch and she held you like she was hanging in mid-air. You carried her to the bathroom, closing the door behind the two of you. After wrapping her casted arm in saran wrap and a plastic bag, you helped her get in the bath then shampooed her hair gently and gave her rag to wash up.
She was getting older now, wanting to already be more independent, but you wanted to make sure she didn’t drown if she fell asleep or hit her head on the side of the tub. With her small eyes heavy and body like jello, you were careful with her as she yawned every two minutes. Her sniffling made your heart tremble, but you’re relieved that she just had your number and was able to call. You admired how smart she was and couldn’t believe she was growing up so fast.
After warming her favorite pajamas in the dryer, you helped her change in her bedroom and combed through her wet hair with a comb. She was sat on the bed, but her eyes kept fluttering at the relaxing feeling of the brush massaging against her scalp. Putting some fuzzy socks on her feet, you tucked her into bed. The whole time, Tom had to stay in the living room trying to compose himself, his hands pressed against his temples and his head down.
You carefully closed Summer’s door, but not all the way, just so the hall light didn’t peak in. When you walked over and saw Tom, you slowly approached him and squated down to be face to face with him. Tom had his hands on his face, still unable to process everything that happened. His clothes were soaked and his hair was wet, but you still ran your hands through it to comfort him.
“Hey… she’s okay. She’s already asleep.” You reassured him, placing your hand on his knee.
Tom lifted his head, his eyes were red around the waterline and the whites of them were bloodshot. Your thumb gently ran on his tinted cheek, sealing your lips as you waited for him to say anything.
“I don’t know what to do.” He sniffed, running his hand over his wet curls, slicking them back.
Your eyes glossed, “What do you mean? Tom, she’s back home.”
Tom sniffled, his wrist against his nose to rub off his tears and his hand trembling, “Yeah, but, w-what if this isn’t enough? What if she… is taken again? What happens then?” His breath shaky, already overwhelmed.
Your heart kept breaking, seeing him fall even more apart. “You got her, she’s here now. There’s nothing else you need to do other than go in there because all she wants right now is her dad. Okay?” You softly told him, running your hand along his knee.
“I just can’t lose her again.”
You shook your head, “No, no, You won’t. You won’t and I’ll tell you that a thousand times more. You love her and no matter what happens, you’re gonna find a way. We’re gonna find a way.”
Tom nodded, your foreheads gently pressed together before you cupped his cheek, your lips trembling as they planted a light kiss on his nose and trailed to his lips. You felt Tom’s hand place on the back of your hair, raking his fingers through it as you nuzzled your face into his neck with your arms wrapped around him. Both of you sniffled, complete messes, but you had to pull yourselves together for Summer and be there for her now that she was home.
“Get changed then get some sleep, okay?” You told him, getting back on your feet and reaching a hand out to him. After he lifted up on his feet, you playfully pushed his back as he started walking away. A sigh of relief left your lips as you plopped on the couch, taking some time to come down from the adrenaline as well. It could be compared to the end of a classic symphony, when the cymbals rhythmic banging and high notes of the violins all come to a halt followed by the final boom of the drums. It was all over.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜
The warm sunshine beamed against the pale yellow walls of Summer’s room when you peaked in. You glared at the two of them in their still slumber, not wanting to disturb them this early so you carefully closed the door. You held the doorknob to the left, slowly letting it go until you heard the click of the the bolt.
Tom wasn’t able to tell you the conversation last night between him and Maggie, but it didn’t feel important since he was able to have Summer back. While you spited her and wanted to hate her, you didn’t want to butt your life into his past. You knew that if it really bothered Tom, he would tell you, but all that mattered was that your girl was home and you both couldn’t have been happier about it.
An hour later, Tom appeared from the bedroom with Summer on his hip. With her head rested on his shoulder and a pout on her lips, you chuckled as you admired their mirrored, tired expressions.
“The resemblance is uncanny.” You jeered, leaning with your back toward the counter with a cup of tea in your hands.
Tom’s lazy smile was angelic, a half-grin on his lips before he pressed a soft kiss against your temple.
“Good morning, babe.” He said in a groggy tone.
“Morning.” You grinned, smiling and running your hand gently over the top of Summer’s hair, “She must be exhausted. We’re you both able to sleep at all last night?”
“Yeah, but I think she can skip school today. I’ll call in a few minutes... I wanna stay here for the rest of the day with her or at least, until I have work.” Tom said at a whisper, setting Summer on the couch and she stirred in her light sleep. He placed the blanket on the arm of the sofa over her body, tucking it between her and the couch to keep her warm.
“I think that’s great. It was a long night for her.” You sighed as Tom walked back over to you, “God, I can’t get her voice out of my head when I heard her on the phone... When she asked for us to come pick her up, I panicked and I just-”
“You did the right thing, babe. I got it all taken care of… well, at least a bit right now… Crap, I almost forget, I have to make sure her follow up appointment for her arm is next Wednesday.” Tom comforted you, rubbing your shoulders before his hands cupped your face. He left another kiss on the center of your forehead before he sat at the kitchen table. You set a cup of tea infront of him and he wrapped his hand around the mug handle, bringing it to his lips and the strong scent of lemon waking him up.
You placed your cup on the counter, wrapping your arms around Tom’s neck from behind, still stood while he relaxed his back against the chair.
“Is your dad gonna call later?” You asked him, kissing the top of his head and laying your cheek against his hair.
He nodded as he took another sip, “Yeah, we’re gonna talk about the lawyer stuff. Maybe I can ask him what I can do about… Summer and dealing with custody.” Tom said, a bit unsure with a furrowed brow.
His hand gently came up, rubbing your forearm as you still had your arms around him. His thumb smoothly ran over your soft skin as you leaned your head down, pressing a kiss on his cheek.
“We’ll figure it all out.” You whispered against his ear, “And if all else fails, we’ll move to Europe and change our identities.”
Tom’s chuckle erupted, his smile gleaming as he bought the palm of your hand up to kiss.
“You know, I need your jokes sometimes. Just to realize how much you hold me down.” Tom jeered, but meant what he said.
As you unwound your arms from him, your hand ran across his shoulders before you looked down at him and tilted his chin up. Everything about him was taken with time, his eyes were a beautiful shade of brown and the features in his face were carved in perfectly. You loved the crinkles by his eyes when he smiled wide or laughed hard, remembering it was one of the reasons you loved to make him laugh.
“I’m gonna take a quick shower. Ready to be back in dad mode?” You grinned, rubbing his back.
“As much as I can be.”
With that, you turned around and his eyes followed you down the hall. From the way you stood on your tippy toes to reach the top shelf for linens and how you put your tongue between your lips, he could list a million different reasons to be in love with you. He couldn’t have found a fatal flaw other than being too nice when it wasn’t necessary. You had so much love to give and Tom had known that since you were kids, thinking about the times you left animal crackers by the weeping willow by the playground at school. You’d hope the fun-shaped crackers would give it some nutrients, making it not be sad anymore and Tom, only nine years old, didn’t have the heart to tell you that squirrels would steal them.
That attitude hadn’t changed as you got older, always seeing you pull through your worst and most stressful times. Especially throughout college, Tom had tried to be as much as he could to be your best friend without letting his feelings shift platonic affection. He didn’t expect you to stay around much when Summer appeared on his doorstep, wondering if you would push away from the sudden commitment he took on. But, he laid down one day and realized it wasn’t like you to keep your distance when something this drastic happened. What he didn’t know is that you were all in from the start. Since the day you met until right here and right now, you weren’t leaving each other no matter what or who tried to come between you.
As Tom finished his tea and you were in the shower, Summer slowly stirred out of her sleep and got up from the couch. In her matching, lavender pajamas, she pushed her hair out of her face before walking up to Tom. He chuckled at her lazy daze, but he opened his arms and she crawled into them to sit on his lap.
“Good morning, sleepyhead.” He chuckled, kissing her temple repeatedly.
“Good morning, daddy.” She mumbled and wiped her eyes with the back of her non-casted hand.
“What are we feeling this morning? Cereal? Pancakes? Maybe that oatmeal you like, the cinnamon and apples flavor?” Tom asked her, wanting to spoil her with anything he could.
“Can I have pears with cinnamon, please?” Summer asked, looking into her father’s eyes.
Tom lifted her as he stood up, “Of course, you can. Whatever your little heart desires.” He smiled, placing her in the chair and kissing the top of her messy hair.
When he walked over to the fruit bowl by the corner of the kitchen counter, Summer shifted to sitting on her knees with her elbows against the table so she could watch Tom make her breakfast.
“Daddy?” She asked, her voice so benevolent.
“Yes?” Tom replied with his back still toward her.
“Do I have to go back there? To the lady’s house? Because… I don’t wanna go back there. That lady was mean and I didn’t like her.” She summarized, tracing her short and tiny fingers along the wood of the kitchen table.
Tom turned around, pausing his chopping and he didn’t know what to say in the first few seconds.
“You never have to go back there unless you want to, okay? I promise you. We keep our promises, remember?” Tom reminded her with a soft tone.
“You promised I didn’t have to stay there, but you left me there.” She pouted, not making eye contact with him.
A chill ran up his spine, this conversation worrying him since the day he dropped her off and made that unforeseen promise. The first promise he didn’t know he would break. He didn’t want to lie to her, but even with the sake of that being for Maggie’s benefit, he still knew he lied. Tom presumed Summer would forget that he promised not to leave her there, remembering how assured she was it was just a weekend, but it had been a month and Tom wondered what went through her mind now.
“I know, sweetheart… but, I promise. You’re here for good.” Tom walked back over and she finally looked up at him, her eyes glassy.
“Okay, daddy.” She muttered, but he had to hug her. He didn’t know why, but he didn’t want to second guess everything and get too comfortable before something worse could happen.
“I love you, kid.” Tom said, kissing the top of her head again.
After Tom gave Summer her breakfast, she could barely keep her head up to bring the fork to her mouth. He knew she was overtired from the night before, so he brought her back to the couch to rest and leave on some cartoons at a low volume. He laid down too, of course, her on top of him and her head was against his chest. Oddly, she laid flat against him and she was stiff as a board, her hair in her face and her mouth slightly gapped. A few times she’d twitch in her sleep and it made Tom nervous, thinking something was wrong, but it was his heightened protectiveness and he knew he couldn’t keep remaining on edge about her being taken away again. It was hard to not think that now, but Tom knew once she got used to the feeling of home again, everything will go back to normal. Blood or not, she was his daughter and he was her father and no one could take that away from them.
A few hours pass and Tom expected a call from his dad any second so, he suggested that you and Summer go out for a bit to avoid the conversation. After she got dressed and you put on her jacket, the two of you got your shoes on by the door. Summer sat on the ground, grabbing the black and white converses off the shoe rack and carefully used the bunny ears technique on her laces.
“Loop… loop and pull.” She mumbled, pulling at the thread coils.
As you slipped on your sneakers, Tom walked out from the bathroom and smiled at Summer sat, her face contorting as she concentrated on the knot.
“Daddy, look, I did it!”
“Good job, kid!” He chuckled, helping her on her feet, “So, did you and Y/N find out what you’re gonna do?”
“We’re gonna see the duckies!” She giggled and you nodded to her statement.
“Ah, sounds like fun. I wish I could come, but maybe this weekend. We can go after your doctor’s appointment.” Tom proposed and Summer nodded frantically, her hair bouncing and moving around.
You grinned, “Alright, we’re gonna go. You need anything while we’re out?”
Tom’s eyes gleamed at the sight of your smile, “No, I’m good.”
“Okay, We’ll see you soon.” You grin, giving him a light kiss.
Summer giggled to herself before she grabbed your hand, leading the way out the door. Tom chuckled before he shut the door behind you and he sighed, starting to feel the pieces fall back together. Throughout the time Summer was away, he didn’t realize in the moment how you stayed. It was just that simple and even imagining the future, he saw your face. Everything between you two had lead up to this moment and he knew it in his heart that there was a reason for something bringing the both of you together. He wasn’t sure if the feeling was mutual or he’d let too many movies get to his head, but somehow fate seemed in his favor. He wished he could have changed some things to please others with the bridges he’s burnt through his life and with his family, but he wouldn’t change his entire life if it didn’t have you or Summer in it.
As you strolled to the park, you couldn’t stop smiling as you talked to Summer. She went on about how she wanted to make Christmas cookies already and how many people had signed her cast, almost no room to even squeeze in another. She was an extrovert by heart, just like her dad and how charismatic he could be once he opens up. You held her hand when you crossed streets and you followed her close when you wondered around the market to get the bread to feed the ducks. After checking out, you two walked to your favorite park, the one she missed so much, to the bench you always sat at that was a few feet away from the pond.
“That one’s name is… Marty.” She said, squatting by the edge of the grass.
You were sat in the grass with your legs crossed, “And that one’s name?” You pointed to the duck with a white tail.
“...Allen.” She giggled, tossing another piece of bread in the water.
You chuckled, “And which one is your favorite?”
“I like Dorothy and Duke because they’re a couple.” She said as she ripped up another piece of bread.
“How do you know they’re together?”
“Because they kiss sometimes. They love each other, just like you and daddy.” Summer replied, looking at the bread as she bunched it up and threw it in the water.
A heat rose to your cheeks, “I guess you’re right.” You chuckled a bit as you watched her keep throwing the bread, watching the ducks swoop it up with their beaks as they passed by.
She turned to you, “Y/N.”
“Summer.” You smiled.
“Are you and my daddy gonna get married? You guys kiss now and people who get married kiss too.” She said in her explanation of what love was to her.
“Well… We’re together now, but we’re not getting married.” You tried to explain in a soft tone, wanting her to understand.
“But, I want you to be my mommy.” She squinted her eyes looking toward you because the sun was in her eyes, her nose scrunched as well.
You sighed, “I’m your best friend and I’m always gonna be here for you.” You could promise her that much, but you didn’t want to say what you really thought, not wanting her to get an permanent image in her head.
She pouted, but didn’t respond at first. It’s like she was gathering her thoughts together before saying what was on her mind.
“I hate that lady I stayed with. She was mean and didn’t tell me bedtime stories.” She mumbled as she sat with you, gently pulling at the grass.
You nodded, “You don’t hate her.”
“I did! She was mean. She’s not my mommy. She’s like the evil queen in Snow White.” She protested, her eyes widening as her voice emphasized.
“Summer, she’s your mom.” You sighed.
“Cinderella’s mommy was mean.” She pointed out.
It almost made you chuckle at how persistent she was, but nevertheless, you told her, “Well, you don’t have to see her until you want to, okay? Your dad isn’t gonna let that happen again, neither will I.”
Summer got up, pushing her hands against the grass before she moved closer to you. She rested her head against your shoulder as she coiled her arm around yours, holding you tight as the two of you watched the ducks float by, some of them swimming alongside their ducklings. The light breeze kept you cool, blowing your hair out of your face, and the kids laughing as they ran around.
Meanwhile, Tom was pacing the kitchen with his phone practically glued to his ear. His dad told him about his options, laying out the routes they could take for this settlement to be as easy as it could be without there being any loopholes. With Tom’s bruises healing, he still had to go to follow up appointments for his concussion and his dad thinks it’s enough to let Tom be heard by the judge.
His court appearance was coming up, but Tom’s dad would come with him to make sure everything went as they were planning. It was nice to feel connected to his dad again, maybe not under these circumstances, but he felt supported again and maybe he was all this time. Tom’s anger had masked that his dad did genuinely care for him, it was his stepmom’s doing that wedged them apart and Tom was still trying to figure out how to deal with her, but he wanted to maintain his relationship with his dad as well as try to mend the shifty one with his mom.
“So, we’ll meet at the courthouse on the 20th, 10a.m.” Tom stated.
His dad nodded, “Sounds good to me.”
Tom chuckled, “Thanks so much… for everything.”
“I’m your dad, you don’t have to thank me. If you did, it would be your first words.” His dad jeered, sitting back in his office chair.
“Yeah…” Tom trailed, “Hey, are you guys doing… anything big for Thanksgiving?”
His dad was surprised, his eyebrows raised as he replied, “Uh, yeah. Have a few friends over, maybe your uncle Ted and Aunt Lorriane. There’s always room for more.” His dad smiled.
“Well, I was thinking that, maybe, me and Y/N came come… and Summer, of course.” Tom gulped, tucking his hand under his other arm as he leaned against the counter.
“Yeah, we’d love to have you. Of course, we’d love to have you.” His dad was surprised by how open-minded Tom was becoming.
“I think it would be great after… all this. You know? And I want you guys to meet Y/N.” Tom shrugged.
“We’d love that too… how are things with her after everything?” Tom’s dad followed up, smiling to himself.
Tom bit his bottom lip, “She’s been so… supportive. It’s crazy how supportive she’s been… I don’t think I could have gotten through all of this without her. She’s always been there for Summer and… I think I want her in my life forever.” He chuckled, finally admitting it out loud and even surprising himself.
Tom’s dad chuckled, “You sound pretty serious.”
“I really am… I’m gushing, but I don’t think I could have gotten through any of this if I didn’t have her.” Tom trailed, tracing his finger along the table.
“Well it’s nice to have someone have your back through something tough like this and she’s a nice girl… and Summer is comfortable with her?”
“Yeah, they’re actually hanging out at the park right now.”
His dad smiled to himself for a few seconds, turning in his chair to face his desk, “I remember when your mom and I met, it was the year before you were born.
Tom arched his eyebrow, “Wow, you guys got married that… fast?”
“Yeah, yeah. I took the morning train to this internship I had in Massachusetts. When I had to get home, she worked at the ticketing booth for a few weeks, but I thought she was cute so… instead of getting one of those reusable cards, I just went to her every night for the train back home. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that I kept asking for a ticket that went the opposite way of where I actually lived.”
“Sappy.” Tom chuckled, surprised and not knowing this. He realized he never really asked since his parents had been separated more years than they were together.
“Once I told her, we went on a few dates, I got a card and… we got married six months later, I think. Then, we had you less than a year later.”
“But, didn’t you guys… miss out on just being in your twenties?” Tom replied, biting the inside of his cheek.
His dad shrugged, the memories all surging in at once, “Well, we knew we loved each other… at the time. We would have rather gotten married then and figured out if we were meant to be than to not do it at all, I guess… and we got a great kid out of it.”
A smile curled up on Tom’s lips, surprised by how his dad felt about his mom or at least how they used to feel about one another. He always imagined that they lived an ordinary lives, pretending that they used to be in love when they don’t talk unless it’s through Tom. He knew there was probably more to their story, but from what he just heard now, Tom believed that there’s a reason for you in his life more than co-parenting or being his best friend. There’s a reason why you’re still together throughout all this. Why it took so long to realize that he loved you more than “just platonic”. You had faith in each other.
“I’m sure your mom remembers it more than me, but we had fun.” His dad added, clicking his pen.
“Yeah, I should probably call her soon. I don’t even know where she is.”
“Paris… I talked to her the other day about the whole… well, your situation and I didn’t want to say anything but, she was thinking of surprising you... She wanted to take time off because of what I told her..” Tom’s dad spilled.
Tom felt his face heart up from the sudden announcement, “Well, that’s mom.”
“She’ll be excited to know everything’s going okay, I’m sure.”
Tom smiled, “Yeah… everything’s perfect.”
After the lengthy conversation Tom had with his dad, they eventually hung up and there was a silence that fell in the apartment. Instead of feeling the loneliness he did for those few weeks, he was anticipated for you two to come home and all three of you could have dinner, maybe talk about what your plans were for Thanksgiving and Christmas. There was so much he looked forward to now, even more so now that he was assured that you were the one for him, but he was scared that there was some chance he wasn’t the one for you. It’s not like favors worked for him through life, so it was easy to be skeptical about this, but all that mattered was the risk of taking a shot and trying not to let the universe get to him.
His wandering thoughts paused when the front door unlocked, already seeing Summer slipping through and she practically jumped into Tom’s arms while he was still sat down. She crawled on top of him and she wrapped her arms around his neck, his arms wrapped around her as well.
“How was the park?” He chuckled, glancing at you coming in.
You set your purse and Summer’s backpack on the wall hooks, “Good, saw the duckies and even some turtles… and we named each one of them.” You grinned, walking over and leaning against the counter.
“You should have come, daddy! There were so many!” Summer giggled, her loose tooth crooked on the front, bottom teeth.
“Ah, well, they’ll be there tomorrow and the day after that and even the day after that. We can go next week too, kid.” He grinned and she hugged him tight, leaning on him and their faces pressed together. Tom felt the instant warmth Summer radiated, even if it was cold outside.
“Promise?” She asked.
“Pinky swear.” He said, holding out his hand with his fingers tucked into his hand with just his pinky out.
She held hers out, carefully wrapping it around his and he chuckled, giving her a quick eskimo kiss before Summer crawled off of him.
“Hey, why don’t you wash your hands… make sure you don’t get water in the cast. Then, we can have an early dinner in front of the TV. How does that sound?” Tom suggested and you nodded in agreement.
“Okay, daddy.” Summer nodded back, her eyes sparkling and she took off into the bathroom. You two heard her take the stool out, the wood shifting against the tiled bathroom before the sink turned on.
Tom turned to you as he got up, a warm smile painted on his lips as he stood toe to toe with you.
“Why are you smiling so much? Good news, I assume.” You grinned, crossing your arms and leaning more against the counter.
“I can’t smile at my beautiful and lovely girlfriend?” Tom swooned.
As you wrapped your arms around his neck, he ran his hands down your side before placing them on your hips. You couldn’t hide your smile either, leaning in without thinking twice about it and brushing your nose against his. As your lips pressed together, slowly and tenderly, his hands slid into the back pockets of your jeans to pull you closer. It wasn’t a passionate kiss, nothing too harsh, but you could feel his warmth curling around you, squeezing your body gently and feeling this instant sense of complete comfortable.
You giggled against his lips, pulling away and he slightly tilted his head, moving your stray hair behind your ear to see your face. The two of you didn’t need words when every piece seemed to be falling back into place.
“Okay, my hands are clean!” Summer yelled from the bathroom, making you two break your kiss with more laughter. She ran from the bathroom and into the kitchen, running up to Tom and leaning on his leg.
Tom smiled as he leaned down, wrapping his arm around Summer’s torso and pulled her up as if she weighed like nothing. Her giggles sent him happiness, ever since she was a baby and could only wrap her hand around his finger. She sat on his hip, coiled around her dad like adhesive and you couldn’t help but grin and rub her back.
“Can we have mac and cheese?” She asked Tom.
“You can have whatever your little heart desires, kid.” Tom kissed her temple, setting her back down.
“Really?”
“Really, really.” Tom promised, his hand tickling her stomach and a warm burst of laugh left her mouth.
Her sneakers touched the floor, watching her run to the cabinet with the pots and pans. As you watched them collect what they needed to start dinner, their voices seemed to fade away, like they were in another room and a wall stood tall between. A muffling to their tones as they stood in front of the stove, but you leaned by the kitchen door frame with your arms crossed. You were happy, more than over the moon to see Summer back where she belonged, but how long would it be until another conflict arose? What if Tom couldn’t claim custody… would he crumble again and you would have to help him pick up the pieces all over again? If he wasn’t her biological father, where did that leave you? You wanted what was best for the both of them, but you didn’t want it to lead to arguments and more confusion for her if she couldn’t even stand her own mother.
Tossing and turning, the mattress creaked beneath you while trying to fall asleep. Your brows furrowed, trying to settle your head into the pillow but it was like trying to slumber on a rocky sea. You laid your back flat once you gave up, staring at the ceiling with the strip of light from the streetlight outside. It’s like you could hear anything from a five-mile radius, suddenly you picked up on the tiniest sound and it was like someone poking your neck with a needle. Trying to drown out the noises, you heard the deadbolt unlock from the creak you left in the door. You felt frozen, hearing the keys drop on the table by the door.
Tom sighed, a long breath passing his lips as he run his hands through soft, brown curls. The clock on the wall told 2:45 a.m., not expecting to stay out this late, but he was making such good tips that it would have been silly to leave. As he entered the bedroom, his tired brown eyes laid on you, under the covers. His hand dug into his back pocket, pulling out the wad of dollar bills and placing them on the dresser.
You still closed your eyes, hearing his belt buckle unclip and the dressers open, his hands rummaging through some of his clothes. You wondered if you should say something, anything, knowing your mind was filled to the brim with thoughts, enough that it couldn’t let you go to sleep.
The weight lifted off Tom’s sore feet, his body sinking into the bed as he carefully shifted himself under the covers, trying not to wake you. With your back turned to him, Tom got comfortable and warm with the duvet insulating him, moving his hands under his head. Silence fell in the room, nothing but the crickets chirping in the night.
You slowly turned on your other side, facing Tom with your face snug against your pillow. Seeing him made you forget all of those heavy thoughts, the ones about him and your future, but you couldn’t just make it go away from the sight of his pretty eyes.
“Hey, sorry, did I wake you?” His voice groggy.
“No, I’ve been up for a while..” You trailed, your hands by your chest.
“What’s keeping you up?”
Tom turned on his side, his hand against his head as his elbow pushed into the pillow.
You sighed, “You know I love you, right?” You sealed your lips, trying to keep eye contact with him.
He chuckled, crinkles by the sides of his eyes, “I love you too… What’s going on?”
Tom’s fingers moved your hair from your forehead, his hand planting to your cheek and his thumb brushing against your cheek, “What’s going through your head, babe?” He asked, his voice always comforting.
You placed your hand on top of his, moving your intertwined hands to your chest, “Whatever happens with Summer, I want you to know that… I’m there for you. I know I’ve said it a million times before, but… I’m not her mom. I’m her best-friend… but, I don’t know if I can be a mom.” You trailed, squeezing his hand.
“But, you’re practically-”
“I’m not. At the end of the day, I’ve helped you.. I’ve done everything I can for her. But, you’re her father. Even if the papers don’t say it, deep down and full-heartedly, you’re her father, but… she has a mom.”
Tom gave your hand a squeeze, “You want me to keep Maggie in Summer’s life?... No, no way. She didn’t care for her until now and it was all because she was selfish.”
“Exactly. I know you don’t see it now but, she needs to have some connection to her mom. If it doesn’t work out that way then… that’s fair. I think things just got off the wrong foot the more I think about it. I mean, what if I’m not enough and-”
“Hey, hey… you are enough. You’re more than enough.” Tom said, his tone soft.
You barely grimaced, still holding his hand as if he was slipping through your fingers. Suddenly, everything went quiet and it was just the two of you in your own little world. His hand securely locked yours and was against your chest, feeling your heart pound for the first few seconds until it went back to its steady beat.
“One day at a time. You and me.” Tom promised.
You replied with a nod and Tom kissed the center of your forehead, trailing to your nose before you shifted closer to him and curled up to embrace the warmness between your bodies. His arm moved behind your neck and around your shoulder, like being in a safety net.
For a few minutes, his fingers slowly carded through the back of your hair, a relaxing comfort as you fell into a deep sleep with knowing you were protected in his arms. Tom stayed up longer than he should have, watching the red-lit minutes change on the clock by his bedside, but he wanted to make sure you were asleep because you needed the rest. A few times, you’d nuzzle your face against his chest, shifting your arms around him and he adjusted his grip around you with the shift of your position.
“I love you.” He whispered, even though he knew you were asleep.
It wasn’t so scary to say out loud anymore. He was so happy about it, he lazily smiled while his eyes began to feel heavy and they fluttered as he also fell asleep right next to you. For once, his world truly was at peace and looking up. The grin on his face lost the tension on the corners of his mouth, light snores between the two of you. Until, he suddenly jolted out of his slumber when there was a light touch on his back shoulder.
Tom shot his head up, a quick breath through his nose before his eyes adjusted to the darkness. He saw Summer standing by his bed, her hair in a bun with her fly-aways highlighted from the streetlight coming in from the window behind her. Just like her dad, she had the same exhausted look on her small face and all she wanted was to be with him. As much as she thought she wanted to be on her own, her thinking six was practically grown, Summer couldn’t deny she was a daddy’s girl.
“Daddy…” She whispered.
“W-What’s wrong, sweetheart?” Tom cleared his throat, carefully leaning over to the other side of the bed.
“Can I sleep with you and Y/N? I had a bad dream...” Summer maintained her whisper.
“Of course… hop in. Get between us.”
Summer pulled herself up, crawling over Tom as he pulled down the covers between the two of you. Your sleep was deep enough that you didn’t budge but, Summer still slid in carefully and faced toward Tom. He wrapped his arm around her, facing her and you and he realized how long it had passed since that’d done this. He knew his days of checking for monsters in the closet and under the bed would run up soon, as well as walking her up to school and holding her hand. The more he thought about how much he cared about her, the less the paternity test meant to him. It couldn’t erase all the memories they’ve made and the hardships they faced. Moments like this were the reason he was her father, not some test.
Of course, he was filled with anxieties and dread that she would push away if he told her the truth, but he couldn’t worry about that now because she was and will always be his family. He’d rather him than a deadbeat be her father, happy to protect her from the evil and bad and there to sing her a lullaby if the night seemed to dark and mysterious, filled with make believe beings that she thought were so real or even holding her hand tight as she stepped over cracks on the sidewalk. Happy, sad, angry, sick, anything, Tom wanted to be there for every moment and even when she has her own family.
The thought of her growing up in the blink of an eye could make him tear up when she fit so perfectly in his arms, so small and delicate and more than ready to see the world even though Tom thought the world wasn’t ready fo her.
“Daddy, too tight.” She warned, her voice muffled in his chest.
“Sorry.” He chuckled, kissing the top of her head.
A few hours later, the sun slowly rose over the horizon and shined through the windows by each side of the bed. The birds chirped, some landing on the fire escape outside, while the cars drove on the street below along with occasional dogs barking from passing one another.
As you moved your face against the pillow, your eyes fluttered open as a small smile curled up on your tired face. Waking up to the sight of Summer asleep on top of Tom was something you could get used to. You reached out, running your hand over her back before pushing her hair out of her face. Her cheek was against his chest, making her lips a bit pursed and eyebrows rested. You leaned your head against Tom’s shoulder, nuzzling your face into his neck and giving him a light kiss on the start of his jaw.
After a few minutes, Tom stirred out of his sleep, comfortable when he woke up next to his two girls. You lifted your head to look at him, smiling with both of you sharing lazy glances.
“Good morning… How’d you sleep?” You asked him, low enough to not wake Summer.
“Perfect.” Tom grinned, leaning in to kiss your forehead.
The morning went by quickly and the next moment, the three of you were in the car and driving to Summer’s school. Tom’s knuckles were practically snow white from how tight he was gripping the stirring wheel and his back straight against the seat as if he were being tailed by someone but the roads were mostly empty.
His jaw clenched, a nervousness building up in his gut the closer he got to the school. When Tom eventually stopped at a red light, you cautiously placed your hand on his leg, “Why are you so anxious, baby?” You asked, watching him place his hand on top of yours.
“I’m not, just tired.” He faked a grin, giving your hand a light squeeze.
You tilted your head, “Really?”
Tom’s eyes moved to the rearview mirror, glancing at Summer with her headphones on, flattening the top of her hair, as she played with her iPad.
He turned to you, “Just like having her back is all.”
But you knew he was scared about having to let her go for a few hours. It may have felt overreactive, but Tom thought if it could happen once, the idea of a second time easily creeped its way up in his head.
Your eyes glossed, “Nothing bad is gonna happen, okay? Trust me, I don’t think we’ll let anyone take our girl unless they kill us over it… not to be completely dramatic.” You joked, just to see him smile.
Even though you felt like a bit of a broken record, but you didn’t blame him for worrying. What Maggie did was unforgivable, leaving Tom with an anxiety in his chest like no other, but all you could do was be there for him and remind him that abandonment wasn’t around the corner. You had to keep him hopeful, almost making Tom himself feel guilty for constantly being on his toes, but he knew you were his anchor to keep him from drifting away to drown in his own doubts.
“Thanks.” He said, glancing down at your hands.
When you got to school, you waited in the car while Tom walked Summer to the front door. Some of the parents wondered where he went, but they passed by with their friendly greetings before the two of them got to the sidewalk.
Tom kneeled down, “You have your lunch?”
“Yes.” Summer nodded.
“Water? Books? Everything you need?” He fixed the collar of her t-shirt.
“Yes, daddy.” She giggled, thinking he was acting silly.
He cracked a smile, “Okay. I’ll see you after school and maybe you can show me the duckies.”
Summer nodded with excitement, giving Tom a quick hug and his hand held hers for a few seconds until it slipped through his fingers. She ran up to the teacher escorting the kids in as he got back on his feet, his eyes not leaving her till Summer turned back around by the door frame and gave a quick wave.
Just seeing that reminded him of living in the moment now is what was important. Not the past, not the future, just being there to see her beautiful smile.
The courthouse’s walls felt like they were closing in even though the ceilings were high and the halls were grand. Well-dressed people passed by with their phones glued to their ears and others pressed tissues to their eyes, holding them to catch their tears and mascara. Sounds of heels clicked against the granite floors, loudly echoing as they sauntered by you and Tom.
“Hey, it’s gonna go okay. There’s no way they won’t give you any compensation.” You reassured him, adjusting his black tie and laying it flat against his white button up.
“Yeah, I know. It’s just kind of loud in here… and hot.” Tom looked down, rubbing the back of his neck.
You knew it was because his dad wasn’t here yet. It meant a lot to him, even if he didn’t want to admit it, but if there was some chance of it happening, you had to keep him cheery. You moved your hands down the front of his suit jacket, brushing off anything, but you looked back into his eyes.
“Hey… Tommy, look at me.” You softly asked. It was something you said to him often, trying to remind him that you were there completely. He just needed a bit of a reminder sometimes that he didn’t have to be alone in everything.
Tom glanced up at you, those brown eyes glimmering. Your glance shifted to the light bruise faded under his eye along with the scar by his cheek, almost gone but you knew it left more than a scar for him. It was just a reminder of the hardest and most confusing time of his life, maybe, but this was all you assumed. He never knew what was going through Tom’s head as equally as knowing just from the look on his face or in his eyes.  Just like right now.
“It’s gonna be fine and you don’t even need to say much. That’s why we have lawyers.” You grinned, a giggle following and he cracked a smile back.
“I love you, you know that?” He asked.
You stood close to him, your heads angled at one another, “I love you too.”
Before you could say something else, you both Tom’s dad’s voice which made you turn around to the hall behind you. His dad walked up with his lawyer, obviously both of them close from how they smiled and chuckled from their conversation. Tom said his dad knew him for a long time, even helping with the separation of his parents a few years ago. Tom thought if his dad trusted this guy enough, so could he.
“Hey son, you look good.” His dad smiled, giving you and Tom quick hugs before both of you shook hands with the lawyer.
“Y/N, this is Joseph, Tom’s lawyer today.”
“It’s nice to meet you. Make sure you keep him sane.” You jeered.
“He’ll be fine.” Joseph grinned, patting Tom’s shoulder.
Tom sealed his lips, then the corners of his mouth lifting up to quickly smile. You grinned back, rubbing his back before kissing his cheek.
“We’ll be waiting out here.” Tom’s dad told him.
It wasn’t easy watching him go in without you even though you’d just spent a few minutes calming him down. You didn’t think this wouldn’t fall through, still grateful he wasn’t more hurt from this, but you didn’t know what would come after this. His fingers slipped away from yours, your stomach dropped and goosebumps ran over your skin as if a chill suddenly blew in. Hiding your distress, all you could do was sit on the bench and wait for him.
“He’ll be okay in there. There’s no question.” His dad assured you, seeing the same details in his face as Tom does like the crinkles by his eyes or the freckles along his nose.
“Thanks. I don’t know why I’m nervous.” You shrugged, crossing your leg over the other.
“You guys have been through a lot. But, this should make things smooth over for a bit while you get back on your feet.”
You nodded, “I was scared because he’s the most stable person I know, but after these past weeks? I had never seen him fall apart so quickly.”
“Well, he told me you helped him throughout that.”
You chuckled, “We help each other. I don’t know what I’d do without him either.”
“That just shows you guys care about each other. Won’t leave each other hanging… You need that right now more than anything.” Tom’s dad spoke from his experiences with his past marriage, happy to hear that his son was not only being supportive, but also being supported by someone who obviously loved him.
You sniffled, “We really do… I’ve been having to take him to his… concussion appointments and they put him in this big machine and make him do all these tests and…” You nodded, “I was already thinking of what the next step was if something bad happened. I mean, luckily, everything has been fine… I guess it’s just assuming something else can hit us while we’re already down… but, I’m okay because I know we have each other’s backs.”
He wasn’t sure to impose, but his dad still reached out for your shoulder and gave a comforting rub. You appreciated it although you didn’t know Tom’s dad that well, you can see where he got his kindness and confidence from clear as day, just even the tone of his voice was similar that you knew Tom always admired his father despite their parted relationship recently.
After an hour or two, most of your time was spent people watching and observing them from where you sat, feeling like you couldn’t do much else. You tried not to pick at your nails or shake your leg, but you felt like you were itching out of your own skin from what was going on behind that thick door. A few times you thought it was opening, making you turn your head constantly at any noise from that way.
Finally, Tom walked out, his lawyer by his side, and his smile was bright which made you reflect one right back.
“I got the compensation.” He chuckled in relief, his arms around wrapping around you and lifting you off your feet.
Tears filled both your eyes, the small accomplishment feeling like a weight slowly being taken off your chest and giving you more hope for whatever came next.
Tom placed you back on your feet, leaning over to bear hug his dad and they shared a few chuckles.
“How much was it?” His dad asked.
“A little over $9,000. Enough to pay for some bills, Summer’s school, savings.” Tom trailed, wiping his tears with the side of his hand.
His dad grinned, “I’d say that’s a call for a little celebration for you two.”
“I agree.” Tom turned to you.
“Well, we’ll leave you two to have some fun. Y/N, it was nice to see you.” His dad grinned, giving you a quick embrace with your head on his shoulder.
“You too.”
“See you later, dad.” Tom gave a pat on his dad’s shoulder, nodding to the lawyer before the two of them walked away.
Your arm was wrapped around Tom’s waist tight as he kissed your temple, pulling you even closer. His smile painted on his lips and pressed another soft kiss to your cheek. You ran your hand over his chest, looking up at his caramel brown eyes.
“Since I’ve come into a bit of money, I think we should go on a date.” Tom grinned, biting his bottom lip to conceal how big his smile was.
You blushed, “You think?”
“Well, I mean, we should go on a date. You, me, a nice restaurant and maybe ice cream or whatever your sweet tooth is craving after.” He smiled.
“What about Summer?”
“I can cover it. My mom is gonna watch her while she’s in town. She’s said she has a lot of grandma time to make up for.” Tom chuckled and put his arm around you, pulling you closer to him.
“Well, as long as she’s willing to do it… I’m all in.” You giggled as you nuzzled your head against his shoulder.
“Thank God, I was scared that we were moving too fast.” He jeered back, kissing the top of your head once more.
After the drama had digested over the past few days, you could see how everything fell into place. At least, for a bit of time until the rent bill came up in your emails again. While you hadn’t spent much time at your apartment, it was seen as storage for your clothes when you’d been at Tom’s for the past two months with Summer. Even though you had been dating for that same amount of time, you didn’t know how to bring it up without feeling like you were rushing things.
Yes, you’d known each other than most couples you were friends with, but you had never been so scared to take the next step and actually moving in together. The thought of finally clashing your lives together and attempt to start another life made your heart skip a beat. These feelings couldn’t be ignored by how strong they were, probably building up after all these years, but you knew Tom had a responsibility of Summer and starting to adoption process.
You were nervous to bring the question up to Tom, wondering how it would pan out and not wanting to assume the worst would happen when you knew in the back of your head that you loved one another more than anything in the world, but nothing has come perfect to you.
As you turned the key in the lock, you pushed open the door, but the lights were all out. You furrowed your eyebrows before your hand searched the wall, finding the switch and flicking it on only to see a few decorations put up.
You froze when you saw red, yellow and white roses scattered around in vases along with plastic, white and pink balloons hanging around the ceiling and settled on the couch and chairs. At first, you wondered if you forget about an anniversary or birthday, but Tom walked out with Summer trailing him.
“Shoot… I didn’t know you were coming home early.” Tom chuckled while Summer ran up to you, wrapping her arms around your leg.
“What’s with the party decorations?” You smiled, glancing around.
Tom sighed, a light smile still on his face before he took your hand, guiding you over to the center of the living room. Heat rose to your cheeks, wondering what he was up to, but Summer stood by his side and she looked up at you with glassy eyes.
“Do you remember when we were younger... and you said the only way you’d want to be proposed to is in a rose garden?”
Your heart dropped, losing the feeling in your whole body as your smile faded, “...Possibly...”
Tom slowly got on one knee while reaching into his pocket, keeping eye contact with you as he lowered to the ground and the tears welled up in your eyes, thinking this was easily a dream.
“Well, I couldn’t find a close rose garden but, I hope this could suffice.” Tom smiled, his cheeks tinted pink.
Summer stood next to Tom, watching him open the small, black velvet box. The ring sat perfectly in the center of it, gleaming from the light coming down and you let out a relieved sigh with a smile on your lips. You quickly wiped your eyes, your bottom lip beginning to quiver as Tom took a deep breath to say his next words.
“I don’t want another few years to go by before I notice that… I was dumb for not doing something and that I love you so much. I want you to be in my life and I want to officially make our own… together forever. I want to love you everyday and a little bit after that.” He chuckled, a few tears trailing his cheeks, “So, Y/N, will you marry me?”
You sealed your lips, not able to hide your smile, but you turned to Summer.
“What do you think, Summer?” You jeered at her, both of you sharing smiles.
“Y/N, I want you to be my mommy.” She said sweetly.
You turned to Tom, beaming at him, both of your eyes filled with tears still, “That sounds great to me.”
He chuckled, gently taking the ring and slipping it on your finger before you practically pulled him up to his feet to embrace him. The tightness of the hug didn’t give you much air, but you didn’t care. Tom ran his fingers through the back of your hair, light laughs coming from the both of you and Summer tried to coil her arms around the both of you from how low she was.
The world finally was complete.
... Mm... Drabble, perhaps?
Morgling seeking comfort from mom or dad in those wee hours because they had a nightmare?
Claws clicked across polished floors, a dark shadow skirting along the hallway. It creaked open an oaken door, disappearing into the room.
“M-Maddox?” A little hand lightly shook at the sleeping omen child.
Maddox made a sound of annoyance, not fully waking.
“Maddox, I had a nightmare.” Magnus whispered, voice desperate. When his older brother didn’t respond he shook him again.
Maddox threw his arm out, half asleep and shoved the other away. Grumbling, he rolled over in his bed.
Magnus fell back on his butt, sniffing. He stood, making his way back into the hallway. The distance to the next door was short, but the darkness made every step longer. Magnus struggled to open that door, if being much bigger.
Once open he padded in, blinking into the inky blackness. He could see the outline of his parents sleeping, hear the calm sounds of their breath.
Quietly he came to the bedside, standing on tiptoes as he whispered, “Ma?”
She didn’t stir.
He grabbed a little handful of her golden hair, tugging softly, “Mama?”
“Hm?” She shifted, voice thick.
“Mama, I’m scared.” The little omen was desperate, “I had a nightmare.”
The Lady tarnished rubbed her eyes, rolling over to offer her arms out to her youngest.
Magnus eagerly clumped up into her embrace, eyes wet as she hugged him close.
“It’s alright, my love.” The soothed, voice still heavy with sleep.
Magnus nuzzled into her, her scent a deep comfort. The Lady Tarnished didn’t mind his many horns that poked into her, petting through his hair slowly.
“They are just dreams…” she cooed, beginning to hum softly. In her warmth and lulled by the sound of her voice, Magnus fell back into sleep.
The tarnished pulled the blanket up, tucking it around her little one, smoothing his raven hair down.
Hi! Could you do an azriel x reader where they have a huge argument but it ends with fluff? Thank you!
Tumblr media
pairing: azriel x reader (acotar)
warnings: mentions of self harm and suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety, shouting, swearing and a butt ton of angst but with some fluff at end
a/n: this is kinda self indulgent because i’m vvv depressed rn and for some reason angst rlly makes me feel better so i hope u enjoy!! pls comment it rlly means the world <3
—————————————————————————-
You knew Azriel was stressed. His hands clenched, lips red from excessive chewing, his gaze stormy and sharp words hurting anyone that pried to deep. You knew you should leave him alone and let him finish whatever he needed to do, but it had been a week and while you had noticed he was stressed, he seemed oblivious to your pain.
You had woken up a week ago with a heavy head, your entire body weighing you down, making everything seem too loud and too bright. The first day you had laid in bed all day, barely eating and when Azriel found you hours later he simply presumed you had just taken an early night.
But you couldn’t sleep.
A few days later you were practically withering away. You had barely eaten in days; you couldn’t sleep, and you missed your mate horribly. Every part of you ached as you dragged yourself into the shower, desperate to scrub away the layer of dirt you could feel on your skin. You stood under the scalding water, hands moving on their own accord to wash your skin, your head moving a million miles an hour as your eyes itched from the hot tears that were mixing with the even hotter water.
You leaned a hand against the counter when you got out, your legs shaky and weak from the lack of food you had consumed, you considered just getting back into bed, but you knew you needed help. You had gotten like this before and it always ended in some form of unhealthy coping mechanism, but you had promised Azriel you wouldn’t do that again so you instead you pulled your clothes on again, not bothering to dry your hair and dragged your feet to the kitchen.
When you didn’t find him there you frowned but went about making yourself some toast to quell the nausea brewing in your stomach. With your food you padded through your house but couldn’t find him anywhere, feeling more hot tears spill as you realised he was out.
You knew his job was hard, but your heart ached as you realised he truly hadn’t noticed the change. You sent a pulse down the bond as you sank to the floor in tears, your head heavy and heart numb. You didn’t get any reply, so you tried sending another one, to no avail, almost as if he were waving away your cries for help.
You cried for about fifteen minutes, before standing and going back through to your room, sitting on your bed, and staring at a blemish in the floor as you fiddled with the toy you had kept since you were young. You felt guilty for the thoughts running through your head, never wanting to make Azriel alone but feeling so lost in your own head that all you wanted to do was die, to feel the lightness you vaguely remembered enjoying as a child. You were standing to move to your bathroom, itching for your razor when you heard the front door open, relief flooding through you that he was finally home.
You walked out the room, fiddling with the sleeves of your oversized hoodie as you went to meet him. He was standing in the kitchen, shoulders tight and your heart panged at the sight of him, stressed and tired. You considered turning and leaving him but remembered that he told you to always come to him when your head was being cruel, so you shuffled forward, wrapping your arms around his back, and pressing your face between his shoulder blades, breathing easier as you inhaled him, your heart feeling some form of peace at last.
But he shrugged you off, moving away from you and you felt white hot dread fill you.
“Not right now (y/n), I’m busy.” His voice was cold as he made himself a cup of coffee, not offering you one as he usually would.
“I- I know I just haven’t seen you in a while.” You fought to keep your voice steady, but he didn’t seem to notice or care about the breaks. You felt your breathing getting deeper and your hands were tingling as the panic rose in you.
“That’s because my jobs fucking important!” he shouted and you flinched, tears swarming in your eyes as you wiped your sweating hands on your hoodie, stepping to him.
“But you said I should come to you if-“ he cut you off by slamming his hands down, shoulder hunched and glare furious as he shouted at you.
“Will you just fuck off! I have important shit going on.” You stopped where you were standing as he picked up his mug, storming out the room and slamming the door to his office behind him.
Tears spilled out of your eyes and you stumbled as you sat down, legs and hands going numb as you hyperventilated, the panic attack hitting you full force as you sobbed into your hands, trying to muffle the sounds so you wouldn’t bother Azriel anymore than you already had. You counted your breaths as you dug your nails into your palm, trying to calm yourself down and thankfully, slowly your breathing began to return to normal as you wiped at your eyes.
Of course he didn’t care. No one else does, you don’t deserve him, and you should be thankful that you have someone so good to you. Half your brain was arguing in his favour as the other half protested, but he hurt you, you can’t let him in again, this is what happens when people get to close.
Your head kept arguing with itself as you pulled yourself upright, walking through to your room and climbing under the covers of your bed, crying yourself to sleep, head pounding and somehow heavier than before.
--
You woke up to an empty bed and pounding headache. You dragged yourself out from under the covers and went to receive a glass of water and some painkillers, finding Azriel in the kitchen.
He smiled softly at you when you came in, but you averted your gaze, going to the sink and filling a large glass.
“Would you like a coffee?” he asked, his hand coming to your hip, but you shook your head, pulling out of his grip and clearing your throat as a weighted silence filled the room. “I’m sorry I shouted at you,” he muttered, desperate to get you to look at him again, but you just turned away, muttering a small “it’s okay,” under your breath and leaving.
You walked back to your room and sat down on the bed as you sipped your water and taking two painkillers. Azriel followed you in soon after, guilt gnawing at his insides and he stood quietly and watched as you pulled the jumper you were wearing over your head, pulling on a clean one.
He inhaled sharply as he saw the change in your body, moving closer to you.
“Have you been eating?” he asked, and you closed your eyes, facing away from him and staying silent as you no longer trusted your voice or temper. “Baby, you have to eat.” While he said it in a pleading manner, your brain heard it as angry, thousands of comments pertaining to how worthless you were springing to the forefront of your mind.
“It’s kinda hard to eat when you want to die.” You snapped and Azriel felt a pang go through his heart.
“(y/n). You promised me you would come to me if you felt that way,” he was frustrated, hating himself for getting annoyed at you but angry that you were ignoring him.
You laughed bitterly and you went to the bathroom, scrubbing the old makeup of your face, “I did. Or at least tried to,”
You stormed past him, pulling on a pair of joggers before moving to leave the house, but Azriel caught your arm.
“You haven’t done anything stupid have you?” he asked, worry and guilt filling him as your eyes filled with tears, finally looking at him enough that he could see the dark circles surrounding your hollow eyes, your skin dull and lacking its usual dewy finish.
“Why do you care.” You pulled your arm from his grip, stepping back and creating space between the two of you.
“Because you’re my mate and I need to know that you’re okay.” He tried to move closer again, but you stepped back so he stopped.
“Your mate huh? Then why haven’t I seen you in a fucking week, even though we fucking live together! Why are you only just noticing that I’m struggling!?” each word hit him like a blow and only his decades of training stopped him from bursting into tears, falling to his knees and begging your forgiveness.
“I was struggling so much, I couldn’t leave my bed, I wasn’t eating, I wanted to kill myself and as soon as I tried to reach out for help you shut me down.” You head was bowed, tears flowing freely as you sobbed into your hand.
He stepped closer his arms wrapping around you as you sobbed into his chest, “I’m sorry baby, I’m so, so sorry,” he kissed your head, his heart cracking at your next muffled words.
“You only care now because you feel bad. I don’t need your sympathy.”
“No baby, I’m sorry. I care so much I was just tired and stressed last night and I know that’s not an excuse, but you have to know how much I care about you. I love you so much and I need you to be okay.” He tightened his arms around you, bringing the two of you to kneel on the floor.
“I’m not okay Az,” you muttered, and his chest tightened as he stroked your back, allowing you to cry for as long as you needed.
“I know baby, but it’s okay. We’ll get through this, together.” He kissed your forehead lightly and you tilted your head to look at him, eyes wide and glassy with tears. He kissed one of the tears that was slowly trailing down your face away and you sniffed, before he kissed you lightly. He picked you up and carried you over to the bed, the two of you lying down together, tucked safely into his arms as he whispered sweet nothings and apologies to you as you fell asleep. Tears drying on their own.
coffee & dahlias
Tumblr media
a/n: It’s my bf’s birthday today and just lobe him weally much!! happy bday zekey 🥺💙
pairing: zeke jaeger x gn!reader
cw/tags: none, it’s pure fluff / can be read as a sequel of there is a light that never goes out
words count: 0.8k
Tumblr media
If there was a thing you never thought you'd see, it was this. Never, ever, in a million years, you would have imagined - not even considered - to see this.
You'd spend an incredible night, and the lingering warmth of Zeke's hands had left a soft, delicious sensation on your skin. As you walked out of the coffeshop, you pictured him, still asleep in bed, lulled by the cool summer morning wind coming from the half-open bedroom window. You'd imagined him turning over in the sheets, his naked skin sliding against the fresh cotton, the curve of his lower back, his muscles numbed by the night, coming undone at the contact of your lips. His grey eyes still clouded with sleep, and a spark of desire awakening at your touch.
So you hurried home, two cups of steaming hot coffee in one hand, a bouquet of dahlias in the other.
You almost got scared. As you opened the apartment door you jumped back and barely caught the paper cup holder. You didn't scream. But you felt your breath catch in your throat. Your feet suddenly motionless, your heart beating.
Illuminated by the morning light filtering through the living room curtains, you made out the figure of Zeke, here, sitting naked on the floor, in the middle of the room, among his discared clothes from the night before that you'd torn off of him in a hurry.
When he heard the door, he raised his head abruptly, and his eyes were oddly shining.
“Are you…” you said, still in the doorway. “What are you doing?”
He looked at you in confusion, his eyes alternating between your face and the bouquet of flowers. That's when you noticed them - shining in the dim light, big tears were running down his cheeks. And his nose was running into his mustache.
“Zeke, are you crying?”
Looking suddenly lost for words, he lowered his head again, now frowning. Quickly, he wiped one of his cheeks with the back of his hand, as in realization. He was looking at his knees in utter confusion.
"What the fuck is going on?" you blured out. You took a step forward and his breathing was jerky, his bare back soflty shaken by the tremor of sobs. His face turned toward the floor.
"I-...” he finally started speaking. It was a whisper, said low enough so you weren’t sure you heard correctly. “I thought you were gone...". A sniffle.
Oh.
Oh.
Then it hit you. The absurdity of the moment. The nonsense he was on.
You bit the inside of your cheeks to contain the violent laughter that threatened to come out of your mouth. You wouldn't have said it, but he was downright pathetic, his broad and bare body bent in half, sitting in the living room, his hair disheveled by the night and by your hands. He was still naked, his butt on the floor. Absolutely tragic. And it was adorable.
"Zeke, baby..."
He looked up at you as you knelt down in front of him, settling the coffee and flowers beside you. You gently pushed a strand of his hair away from his forehead, and his eyes dived into yours. They were unfocused and cloudy, and since he didn't have his glasses on, you guessed his world was blurry.
"You realize it's my place, right?"
"I know!" he said, looking almost hurt. A tear rolled down his cheek again. He sniffed loudly.
“You weren’t there when I woke up and I-... I don’t know.”
You placed your hand flat against his forehead to take his temperature, but he grabbed your wrist between his fingers.
"Are you high?"
"I’m not. It’s my natural state. I'm… extremely emotional."
"Okay."
Silence fell between the two of you for a moment, and he grabbed your wrist with his other hand, his fingers sliding between yours. He was looking shy, like a boy caught redhanded, blush spreading from his cheeks to the top of his ears.
"Where were you?"
"I went to grab coffee. My coffee maker's broken."
He nodded once, his gaze turning to the flowers on the ground. With his chin, he pointed at them.
"Did you buy me flowers?"
“Yep.”
You saw his face light up a bit, the realization hitting him. The corner of his mouth went slightly upward to his sudden amusement. As you saw him open his mouth to make a witty comment, you spoke first.
"Happy birthday, Zeke," you said, placing a kiss on his cheek.
And before you could even pull back, he threw his arms around your neck, pulling you close. You finally let out a small laugh, and your heart sank at the feeling of the humidity of his cheeks in your neck. He said something, but you didn't hear it, the sound muffled by the proximity of your bodies. Gently, you ran your fingers down his spine, to his lower back, placing small kisses in his hair and on his temple. His hands were firm on your back.
Eventually, he released you from his embrace, and you came forward to lay your forehead against his, fingers sliding against his cheeks, pinching his hot ears.
"You look ridiculous," you giggled.
"Oh my god," he huffed, "you're so rude."
"You love it."
"Yeah," he smiled, his eyes shimmering, "I love you."
In which Martin and Gerry help Jon acquire a cat, among other things.
“Martin, look!”
A phone is shoved in his face; on the screen is a tiny black kitten sprawled on a carpet with the headline “Free to a Good Home!!” Martin knows where this is going.
“Finally time to bite the bullet, eh?”
“We could surprise him!” Gerry’s voice is animated as he waves his phone in the air. Martin loves when he gets like this, unguarded and sweet. “You know how stressed he’s been. Honestly, I’m shocked we haven’t gotten one already.”
“Well, he’s certainly been hinting at it.” Martin gestures broadly at the walls of the bookstore, decorated with various cozy knick knacks and art they’ve picked up at charity shops. There’s no less than three oddly majestic cat paintings along with a shelf of tiny porcelain felines, not to mention the gaudy clock that has cat breeds instead of numbers. Jon has...particular taste. “Not very subtle, is he?”
“Should I message them, then?” Gerry squints at the screen. “We met them at trivia a few months ago - Mara, the one with the-”
“Green hair, yeah.” Martin remembers the night rather fondly. Gerry usually spent most trivia nights scowling in the corner and making snarky commentary with Jon, but on that particular occasion he had a few drinks and was considerably more relaxed. He managed to charm half of the bar with his stories and wit while Jon stared on, adoration clear on his face.  “But you know Jon would kill us if we didn’t let him have a say. You know how he gets, he needs to prepare-”
“-buy ninety toys-”
“-think up a ridiculous name.” They both laugh at that- Jon’s got a penchant for renaming their friend’s pets when he doesn’t think their moniker “suits them.” He’s gotten into more than one fight about it. “Text him so he doesn’t stay late, though. I’m not staying up until midnight again.”
“On it.”
_______
They hear Jon before they see him.
The door creaks open, alerting them to his presence as Jon lets out his usual long-suffering sigh (Gerry fondly calls this mood ‘The Bouchard Blues.’) His clothes are wrinkled and his eyes are barely open; from the slight indent on his face, Martin reckons he fell asleep at his desk again. Gerry meets him at the door, grabbing his bag and giving him a kiss on the cheek. “Rough day, love?”
Another sigh, this one a bit more huffy. “Elias came in at half past four with a box of ninety random documents and wanted them all organized by tomorrow. Impossible, of course, unless I stay the night-”
“But you came home!” Gerry says it with a sort of wonder in his voice; Jon very rarely stands up to his boss, no matter how ridiculous the ask.
“W-Well, you said it was important,” Jon looks between them with large, worried eyes. Always assuming the worst. “It’s nothing bad, is it?”
“Jon, I thought the twelve reassuring texts and afternoon phone call put that to rest,” Gerry replies as he steers them towards the couch. “Suppose I should’ve just told you. I wanted it to be a surprise.” He unlocks his phone and scrolls until he finds the ad, handing it over to Jon.
His eyes immediately light up, alert and awake. “Cat!”
“Cat,” Martin agrees, settling down beside them. “We were thinking of getting one for the bookstore-”
“Of course,” Jon’s smiling that rare, bright grin and Martin melts just a little. “It’s only logical. And I do like black cats-”
“Damn it!” Gerry groans, startling them both. He throws his phone down on the couch, crossing his arms in a sulk. “Someone just claimed her. I knew I should’ve said something-”
But Jon’s already fishing his phone out, his smile not dimming in the slightest. “There’s a shelter not too far from here- I’ll see if we have to make an appointment. Martin, can you call Georgie? She’s got an excellent carrier for the Admiral, and she can probably recommend other necessities-”
They end up going to bed at midnight anyway.
________
“I still don’t see why we had to order so much,” Martin complains after another confirmation email lights up his phone. The credit card bill’s going to be astronomical this month. “Surely we’re overpreparing. We don’t have room for the deluxe cat tower in the shop, and we certainly don’t need one for the flat as well.”
“I assure you these are all necessities, Martin.” Gerry and Martin are both fairly tall, but even they have trouble keeping up with Jon’s brisk pace, sharing a fond look over his head. Jon managed to find them a Saturday appointment with a rather impressive combination of wheedling and charm. When it came to cats, Jon didn’t pull his punches. They made it to the shelter in record time and Jon burst through the doors, his next words full of self-importance. “We’re expected. Jonathan Sims.”
They’re led back to a large room by an amused assistant, Jon at the front of their little line. Martin watches as his eyes light up upon seeing the many cages that lined the wall; even Gerry seems a bit excited, though he tries to hide it by hanging back. Gerry’s never been much of an animal person; he shares Jon’s distaste of loud and jumpy dogs too unpredictable in their behavior. He only just started getting used to the Admiral, and that was through much prodding on Jon’s part. Jon’s love is surprisingly infectious.
Jon peers into each cage intently, answering every inquisitive noise with a prim “Pleased to meet you.” One of the first cages contains a fluffy brown cat with curious eyes and Martin stops to poke a finger through the door. “Walnut” (as provided by a helpful nameplate) does not respond, though she seems interested.
Jon’s already halfway down the row before he stops in his tracks, eyes trained on a large, grumpy ball of gray fur sitting right at the bars of the cage. He’s missing an eye, and he begins to growl as soon as Jon nears him.
“This one.” He declares, staring as if entranced. He hasn’t even touched it or attempted to pet it- they’re locked in some sort of silent standoff. Martin’s reminded of those romantic comedies Jon and Gerry hate, where couples lock eyes across the room and it's love at first sight. He surreptitiously takes a picture. Adorable.
“Jimmy?” The assistant inquires. Jon scoffs at the plainness of the name. “He’s been here awhile. Not very friendly, I’m afraid.”
“No, not Jimmy.” Jon offers up a hand, and the cat comes closer, sniffing at it with suspicion. After a few moments, he butts his head against Jon’s hand, earning a smile. “Lance Corporal.”
“No.”
Jon swivels around, eyes narrowing at Gerry’s words. It’s the first time he’s spoken and he’s got one eyebrow quirked up in amusement. It’s a good look on him. Jon, however, is having none of it and he puts a hand to his hip. “And why not?”
“It’s such a mouthful.” Martin has to agree; it doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. “I’m not going to call him that. What about Lance?”
Jon wrinkles his nose. “Ew.”
Martin sighs; Gerry and Jon get along like a house on fire but when they bicker, they bicker. He eyes the cat that’s now rubbing against Jon’s hand and purring; he hopes the its sudden geniality will extend to Martin and Gerry. Jon would pick a cat that’s just as prickly as he can be.
Martin gives it a good look, coming up beside Jon at ‘Jimmy’s’ cage. The cat immediately stops its gravely purr, it’s eye now trained on Martin. It’s unnerving, Martin never thought a cat could radiate authority but this one surely managed to. If any animal deserves a title, it’s this one.  “What about the Captain?” he asks in a fit of inspiration.
They both turn to look at him; Gerry amused, Jon thoughtful. “Go on.”
“It’s a title, you always liked the naval ones.” Jon nods in agreement, the beginnings of a smile on his face. “He looks like an old sailor, very distinguished. I dunno, I think it’s cute.”
“The Captain,” Jon whispers in awe as the cat resumes rubbing against his hand. “Martin, that’s perfect. Inspired, even.”
He can’t help preening a bit. “Thank you.” Gerry rolls his eyes.
And then there’s the moment of truth- the assistant opens the cage door and Jon steps forward with all the solemnity of a man about to be knighted. He reaches out his arms and the cat lets itself be picked up, going limp as Jon brings it to his chest. He sighs in contentment, giving himself one more moment of bliss before he perks up and opens his eyes.
“Now pick yours.”
_________
Three. They’ve got three fucking cats.
Martin and Gerry immediately began to refuse, but Jon was insistent. “The Captain is obviously very partial to me, and I think you should have some say in who we adopt. If we each get one it eliminates any favoritism. It’s only logical.”
There was nothing logical about it. Three cats and three people in their tiny flat, or worse, destroying their bookstore. They didn’t have the space, the cats might not get along, it would be too expensive. But Jon wouldn’t hear of it, countering every point in a calmness that was borderline unnerving. Martin shot Gerry a pleading look; he’d gone silent after the initial refusal, content to let Martin do most of the arguing, but he just shook his head in amusement- he knew how this would end, and Martin did too. As the final nail in the coffin, Jon deployed the eyes and that’s how he found himself in the front of a taxi with a lapful of Walnut. She’s a friendly thing, instantly purring on contact and meowing whenever he turned away. Martin hadn’t the heart to turn it away.
Gerry took more time. He slunk around the cages and the cats seemed to sense his reluctance. But soon he came upon a small, sleek black cat, not unlike the one from the Facebook post. It was a tentative thing, barely coming to the edge of its cage to sniff at his fingers, but Gerry was determined, patiently waiting the fifteen minutes it took to get him to warm up. Martin didn’t point out the similarities between it and a certain goth, though he shared a knowing look with Jon.
“I’ve got it - the Unfathomable Void.”
“Dear God,” Martin muttered, rolling his eyes. So dramatic, the both of them.
Jon snorted. “That’s a bit much.”
“Okay, Lance Corporal.”
“Excuse me-!”
“Settle down, boys,” Martin put a hand on Jon’s shoulder, he looked liable to pounce. “If that’s what you want, go for it. But we’ll call him Void for short.” Gerry nodded, seemingly satisfied. Jon continued to scowl, though without any heat.
The cabbie was definitely not pleased at having to cart around three men and three cats. He muttered the entire drive while Jon bounced in the backseat, cooing at his companion. Gerry sat much more stoically, though Martin didn’t miss the tiny smile as the cat nipped at his fingers. Jon’s insistence on multiple supplies was starting to make sense now. He definitely planned this from the beginning, sneaky thing.
“Oh no,” Jon suddenly said upon entering their flat, struggling with the carrier in his hand.  Martin’s starting to think he shouldn’t have picked such a massive cat. “I forgot this was for the bookstore!”
“Well, yeah.” Gerry sat his cage on the ground, kneeling down beside it. “I figured mine or Martin’s would do. The Captain’s not very friendly, Jon.”
“But what if they get lonely? We can’t split them up.” Jon’s eyes dart around the room, growing more conflicted by the second. “Perhaps we should keep them all at home.”
“There’s no room, Jon! And no one’s here during the day.” Martin surveys the room- the three carriers already seem to take up an enormous amount of space, not to mention the living creatures inside of them.  And all of those packages, that damn tower…
“You can take them back and forth. Commute.”
“Christ, we did not think this through.” Gerry’s smiling even as he says it, watching as the Unfathomable Void slowly makes his way out, sniffing tentatively at the air. Walnut’s content to stay in her cage, and Martin tucks her in a corner away from the other two. Jon’s already got the Captain out, holding him in his arms and refusing to let him go.
“You’re right, we didn’t.” Jon agrees, tucking his face in the Captain’s fur. “We should’ve gotten four-”
“Fuck’s sake, Jon!”
“Let’s talk about this later, alright?” Gerry takes Martin’s place as the voice of reason, a rare occurrence. “We’ll keep them at home, let them get used to us, and then we’ll figure out the bookstore situation. No sense getting worked up about it now.” Jon sighs, cradling the mass of fur to his chest and plopping down on the couch. Martin’s sure they’ll be at it again tomorrow; Jon sniping as Martin tries and fails to put together a massive cat tower, Gerry groaning about whatever surprises the cats left for them in the morning. The next few weeks were going to be stressful, to say the least.
For now, though, he sits with his partners once again until midnight, watching their new additions roam about the flat and ignore each other. Jon frets, Gerry sighs, and Martin unsuccessfully attempts to steer the conversation towards anything but cats. By the end of the night, only Void manages to feel at home, curling up in Martin’s favorite armchair (much to his chagrin). Could’ve gone worse, Martin cheers himself with. They’ll get used to the flat. And the bookstore. Probably.
Later that night, once their partner’s asleep and snoring softly between the two of them, Martin turns to Gerry, borrowing Jon’s patented sigh.
“We’re gonna get a fourth cat, aren’t we?”
Gerry’s voice is just as resigned. “Yeah, reckon so.”
“Christ.”
when their fem!friend turns into a 5-year-old || tomorrow x together
scenario: you turned 18 years old a few months after huening kai did and one day you woke up into your five year old self. having to live alone away from your family, you didn’t know what to do so you decided to call your best friends and told them to come to your place as soon as possible.
yeonjun
as soon as he arrives at your place, he is shocked
but lord knows how this man loves kids
HAVE YOU SEEN HOW HE GOT EXCITED SEEING WILL AND BEN FROM TROS?!
Anyway
“y/N?! who’s kid is this?! WHERE ARE YOU?! whY DO YOU LOOK LIKE HER?! IS SHE YOUR HIDDEN LOVE CHILD?!”
“no mf! it’s me! y/n! in my 5 year old self”
he would NOT question how why what where and when
he’s just be like “AWWEEEE Y/NNNNN SO CUTE” and hugs you
would take care of you
he’s going to *try* to help you go back to your normal form
but he’s lowkey praying inside that you’d stay as your 5 year old form
you’d be like >:(( HELP ME PLEASE
and he’d just be like cooing at you
“aweee little baby” “don’t be upset! you’re cuter this way.”
and you’d be like (- _ -)
eventually you would give up asking for his help
so you’d just sit on the couch alone pouting with crossed arms
he’d giggle at the sight and take a picture of you and would send it to the other boys
but he’d cook food for you so you won’t be upset anymore
“do you want some ramen?” and you would be nodding furiously
you’re one hungry babie
then after he cooks you would try sitting on the dining chair but it’s too high
so he’d giggle EVEN MORE and help you up
he would carry you everywhere with any way possible
he’d carry you like a sack, or like a newborn, or like a toddler
he’d most likely follow you around to watch you, like a kid, well technically you are
he would also hold your hands everywhere you go
“jjun, it’s still me, just even smaller.”
“well i still need to follow you around, what if you need help? what if you hurt yourself? look at you and your tiny self.” and he’s gonna shake his head
you took a nap with him on the couch, your tiny form laying on top of him like a baby
then you woke up and you realize you’re at your big form again
BUUUT yeonjun, instead, is in his 5 year old form
“OMG YEONJUN?!?!
soobin
mans is whipped as hell
without question, he’d know that small child inside your house alone is you
he wouldn’t even question if you were another kid or what, he just knows it’s you
WOULD IMMEDIATELY CALL THE OTHER BOYS
not to help you, but to tell you how adorable you looked
he would dress you up and do your hair
he’d treat you like a literal kid
he would dare to help you because he’s enjoying taking care of you
chile- you’d look like his kid no cap
he’d quickly go to the store to buy a cute dress and cute hair accessories
then he’d dress you up and put clips on your hair
“do you also want toys? i’ll get you some.”
you were like “well if you help me get back to my old form, i’d very much appreciate it.”
“uuhmmm… no.”
he would be forgetting your actual form and you’re mentally 18 years old
so when he makes you shit on his lap and play with you like a kid, you’d be like “bro i’m 18”
he’d stop working and stare at you
error 101
“oh yeah huh.”
he loves playing with your hair
treats you like his daughter
just like with yeonjun, you would give up and just let him do whatever he wants to do with you
he would brush your hair and tie it into two pigtails and put two big bows
soobin your hidden infantilization kink is showing LMAO
anyway, you’d need cuddles
so he’s be sitting on your couch and you’d be sitting on his lap, facing him and your face against his chest
rubbing your back and tapping your buttocks like a kid
you’d fall asleep, snoring lightly
few hours later you’d be waking up on the floor, in your normal self
you got up happy
and once you saw a small body laying on your couch, you’re like
(O . O)
“SOOBIN YOU’RE 5!!”
beomgyu
this mf
as soon as you explain to him that you transformed into your younger self….
would make fun of you
and laugh at you
“HAHSJIHSADHHEK Y/N IS A KID HHHHH”
you’d cry, you really didn’t want to make fun off most especially you’re way smaller now and you can’t hit him
so he’d stop and say sorry
he wouldn’t help you either
not because he doesn’t want to, he just don’t know how to
so instead, he’d take you out on an amusement park
and he’d make you have fun in your little self
“do you wanna ride the carousel?”
you’d look at him weirdly while you waddle away from him
“sure i guess.”
you got in the ride and chose the light blue horse
but guess what, because you’re tiny you can’t get on the horse
so he’ll carry you up
and poke fun of you again
“aigoo wittle y/n is even wittle”
then he’d crack a laugh
you’d get upset and pout, then you’d look away
throughout the whole ride you would be looking away from him
not paying attention on what he’s babbling
once you leave the ride he’s kneel in front of you
“did i make you upset? awe i’m sorry” :(
then he’d pat your head
and hug you
you’ll be hugging him back, wrapping your arms around his neck
then, he’d just carry you, legit
and next stop is the ice cream stall
still carrying you
“why did you carry me?” “you walk slow,” you’d roll your eyes
the worker would coo at you and beomgyu
“awee your sister is so cute! here you can have this strawberry ice cream for free!”
then eat it in one bite, “beomgyu, i want more”
the worker is like o.O how??
anyway you got your second ice cream
at the end of the day, beomgyu slept with you in your bedroom. he’s cuddling you as if he’s protecting you from the monsters.
the next morning you felt small hands wrapped around your waist
so you opened your eyes and looked down
“omo. gyu wake up! i’m big now and you’re the small one!”
taehyun
taehyun taehyun tsk tsk
he’s the most rational one
at first he wouldn’t be convinced that it’s you, that you’re the kid
so he’d search for big y/n inside your place
to find out there’s no big y/n around and realizes that the small y/n is the big y/n in the small y/n form
if that makes sense
WELL ANYWAY
he’d sit on the couch, then he’d also sit you on the couch
examine you from head to toe
then he’d just smile widely and lift your small feet
“hehehe so smol”
You: >:(((
he’d pull your hair playfully to annoy you because this man is secretly whipped for you
he just keep on denying it
he’d also take a lot of pictures and videos of you
mostly to keep it and blackmail you with it
he’s the only person who’s gonna try to help you go back to your normal form
although he doesn’t want to, he’d still help you
“how did you turn like... this small?”
you blinked and sipped the chocolate milk that he gave you
“i woke up like this.”
(-_-) “y/n you’re not beyonce”
>>:((( “i’m not lying! i literally woke up and i’m 5 instead of 18!” you fought
you crossed your arms which made you spill the chocolate milk on your shorts
*shakes head*
he’d try to look for clothes in your closet that would fit your small body
but no clothes meh meh
he’d quickly run to the nearest store and get you the cuTEST jumper set and headband
he just found it cute, d w he doesn’t have a bad dollification/infantilization kink unlike soob
he’d also grab some tteokbokki on the way
lowkey worried if you were doing okay alone at your place
but like even though you’re mentally 18, you’re still physically 5 so for some reason he thinks you’re lowkey incapable not in a bad way tho
my god you would devour the tteokbokki
“jeez, don’t eat like a kid.” and wiped your mouth
you sitting in the chair with stacks of pillow to boost you up, also waddling your feet since it doesn’t reach the ground
“technically, i AM a kid.” *munches on tteokbokki*
while you’re bored on the floor, laying on your stomach, taehyun is just on his phone
you had no idea but he’s quietly searching about your situation
you suddenly fell asleep
he heard your snores
he cooed and guess what
more videos!
he also fell asleep on the floor, both of you laying on your stomach and facing each other
around midnight you felt a sudden urge to drink water
so you opened your eyes
and yoU SCREAMED
“TAE YOU’RE A CHILD!!!!!”
huening kai
this loud mf will scream once he steps inside your place to see a child sitting on the floor holding your phone
“Y/N WHO IS THIS KID?!”
“shut up! i’m y/n! get your butt over here and help me!”
he was lowkey scared to be near you
but he’s be sniffing you, lifting your arms and legs
then he’d giggle
“heh you’re cute.”
he’d take you to his dorm actually
although all the boys are there cooing at you and babying you, you’re just in kai’s room mostly
he’d give you all his plushies
compare your size with his plushies’ sizes
then he’d giggling some more
once you felt a little tired you laid in his bed with arms open looking up in the ceiling
“being a kid is boring.”
next think you know he’s rubbing your belly
WILL RUB YOUR BELLY NON STOP
okay but you know how kid’s bellies are usually rounded and not flat?
exactly
that’s why kai loves to rub your belly
he’d give you piggy back rides
don’t really know how to baby you because he’s a baby himself
but he understand your baby nature
babies unite!!!
he’d let you braid his hair or tie it
you’d be sitting in the couch and him on the floor while you put random clips on his hair
then the other boys would videotape it
“look at both of our babies… aigooooo!” -txt
would make cupcakes together
your little self would just be passing the ingredients to him while he does all the work
but hey it’s still teamwork yk
after both of you would be high of sugar
very very energetic
also is obsessed with your laughs
the pitch is higher and cuter
so he’d purposely make you laugh
and he’d be clapping bc of how adorable you are
would ask the older boys to order you food just for you too
“c’mon hyung, little y/n is hungry”
“just tell us that YOU are hungry”
still ends up ordering a lot of food
you’re slurping the jjajangmyeon and he’s be hella ready to wipe your mouth for you
would also clip your hair back
but he’d accidentally pinch your scalp instead
“kai, that hurts!”
“eeehhh sorry :””(“
after eating all the food
you’d be knock out on his bed
then him next to you
both of yall cuddling a plushie each
he wakes up first tho
“y/n wake up! you’re normal!”
you opened your eyes to see a 5 year old kai
“am i dreaming or you’re 5?”
Pick Me Up - Bill Hader x Reader
Theme: Fluff, with some Angst
Warnings: Language, Use of Alcohol
Summary: Bill wakes up in the early hours of the morning with a request to pick up a rather drunken you.
Word Count: 2.4k
A/N: I started this ages ago, I still really dig some of my word usage in this fic. Once again, Maggie Carey and Bill will not be married in this fic. Thanks for dealing with my sporadic fic posting.
Tumblr media
It was just supposed to be one drink. Even if you could remember that rule, you were pissed off and needed to forget everything for a while. Just enough for the alcohol to slip into your system and make you feel somewhat fixed for the night.
Except one drink became two, and three, and soon five. I think it’s important to note that you were an incredible lightweight when handling alcohol.
Usually, you’d have a friend by your side, but this bar wasn’t that far of a walk from your apartment. It would almost be quite the resource, but you rarely tended to turn to drink.
Except that is, until you found out that your boyfriend of five years cheated on you. You were crushed, obviously, but you had almost seen this coming. Or maybe you didn’t; it just didn’t seem impossible for him to pull this act on you.
After booking a job as a cast member on the thirty-eighth season of Saturday Night Live, you often found yourself becoming busier than you had ever been. You would frequently come home late and not have enough time for your partner as you had imagined.
Except, Justin had been so understanding. Why wouldn’t he? He was a surgeon at Lenox Hill and would always take night shifts to keep things afloat.
He was charming, kind, and always knew how to surprise you. You could still picture your future wedding and marriage so vividly; he was the man of your dreams, but was he really?
He probably wasn’t when you had found him fucking a random girl senseless in your shared bedroom. That’s beside the point, everything felt floaty and fuzzy, and the bartender looked concerned.
“Want me to call someone for you?” she suggested as she leaned against the counter. One hand flipping a pen, the other sneaking up to the phone beside her on the wall.
Justi-no, just no, you stopped yourself quickly.
You swallowed carefully, looking at her with an emotion swirling within you that you couldn’t quite place. She cocked an eyebrow, just waiting for your answer to flop into her fingertips.
“His name is, um, he’s a friend. Just a friend, yeah, sure. Okay, hmph. His number is-,”
He had just gotten to bed finally, or so he had thought, almost perfecting not focusing on the way his breathing was lulling him to sleep. It was way too late for this anyway; he would definitely make a pick me up at the local joe’s the next morning.
That was until he heard a faint buzzing come from his bedside table; he rubbed his eyes with annoyance. At this hour, who the hell was disrupting him was his first thought, that was until he saw an odd number.
Seth had always told him not to accept calls like these, but something didn’t sit right. Hopefully, he was wrong; it could very well be someone ‘butt-dialing’ him.
“Hello?” damn, he sounded gruff, was this new?
“Hi, I’m here with Y/N; she’s currently here with me at April’s Brewery on 16 W 51st street. It’s getting rather late, and we are closing up soon. She said I should call you, Bill, right?” she confirmed, the information twisting around in his drowsy mind.
“Oh, um, yeah, I am. Is Y/N, okay? I mean, yeah, I’m coming as soon as possible.” he stammered, hanging up before she could even speak, rushing out the door, and calling forth a taxicab.
Why did Y/N pick him of all people? He was him, and you were well you! He didn’t even think you were even that close, well, maybe you were. Things between you and him were pretty nice; you could make him laugh like no other. You made his days better, even if it was with something small and not that big in retrospect.
Except then again, wasn’t this Jus-whoever’s job? Your boyfriend’s job to pick you up? Why were you even drinking in the first place? He had many questions.
The cab pulled to a halt, and he paid the necessary change. Giving the driver a tight-lipped smile, he hopped out and made his way into the destination he was given.
The bar looked reasonably deserted at this point. Still, there you sat looking absolutely crushed, or what appeared that way, nursing what seemed to be a glass of something that didn’t quite look like water. Lost in some conversation with the women who he assumed had called him, her eyes catching him in what looked to be a sense of relief.
She had whispered something to you, but instantly you poked your head up. Immediately locking eyes with him, you pulled yourself up, an excited grin dashing upon your lips.
“You came, oh Billy!” you squealed, rushing over to him before slipping, his arms rushing over to hold you up.
Billy? he thought with much amusement and, of course, concern.
“Woah Y/N, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this...” he drew on his words, your head tilting in confusion.
“I’ve never seen you this drunk,” he admitted finally only to have you burst into a fit of giggles.
“Oh, Billy, you are so fucking funny. Do you know that? You make me laugh so much, like a crazy amount. God, you are so cute!” His eyes widened. Were you cheating? No, no, he couldn’t do this.
“Y/N, sweetie.” he began while sliding the bartender a couple twenties, leading you out the door. Steering the two of you to a nearby pocket of space between the bar and a convenience store.
“You have a boyfriend, I sincerely hope you didn’t forget,” he stated only to see you deflate at the thought.
“No, not anymore, or at least I don’t think so.” you cried the tears coming down faster than he could’ve imagined.
Wait, really? He sure as hell didn’t see this coming; you two had been together for what had appeared to be a long time. Judging by your conversations at work, things seemed to be fine between you two, rusty, but okay.
You shifted your feet, looking anywhere but him, he gulped, taking hold of your quivering hands that tugged at each finger anxiously. Eyes widening, you looked up at him, something settling in your eyes that he couldn’t quite process.
He smiled softly, lifting up his thumb to wipe away your tear stained cheeks. That’s what friends did, right? You sniffed, pulling back a little farther.
“I don’t think I can go back home tonight; Justin cheated on me with someone from his work.” you huffed, feeling everything come back at full swing.
“Oh Y/N/N, come here,” he whispered, beckoning you into his arms. It absolutely crushed him to see you so....broken.
Slowly but surely, you fell into his arms and sobbed quietly. His hands rubbing soothing circles onto your back, whispering sweet nothings to you. Anything to help, god, he hoped he was helping.
“God, I don’t know what I’m gonna do.” you choked out after a while, clearing your throat and pulling away from him.
His eyes darting between yours and the way your hands twitched anxiously. The sky now a deep violet speckled in navy clouds, stars peeking out from the city fog to illuminate your surroundings. The neon lights of the convenience store sitting behind you showing just how late it was. The way it hit you all at once, lighting up the way your cheeks were stained from your tears.
He had never really had a chance to tell you how beautiful you were. It wasn’t even like he was trying to start trouble; you just were.
Whether it was in weekly meetings, bright and early, the buzz of the day settling into the cast. He’d notice it, the way your lips curved into that gorgeous grin you always seemed to carry on you. The way you did your hair, how it complimented your features so effortlessly. How your eyes would filter in appreciation of everyone in the room, how you’d stop shortly at his. The crinkle in your eyes, a smile beaming at him, offering a little wink.
Mornings with you were never dull, or at least that’s what he thought. He always knew you were out of his reach, so his heart stayed far from him, like a buoy sinking up and back down into the waves of his consciousness, always there but never willing to commit.
Even now, in your current state, he was in awe of your beauty. Yet, it wasn’t polite to stare, and he had to make sure that you’d get some sleep and a cup of water and painkillers by your side the next morning.
“I have a spare bedroom. Honestly, it’s way too late, and I don’t mind it.” Bill gestured, trying to focus on any signs of protest that could erupt from you.
“O-okay,” you whispered in agreement, rubbing your eyes as fatigue started to settle in. A motion that Bill definitely didn’t miss while he looked you up and down.
He gave a toothy grin before motioning you to follow him, standing before the bustling streets of Manhattan. Even at night, cars buzzed and honked past at moderate speeds. His hand outstretched to catch the attention of taxis, one hand reaching out to take ahold of yours.
It felt nice when he touched your little hands slip into his somewhat larger grasp; it felt normal almost. God, he was such a freak, you just got cheated on. You were just friends, nothing else. Get it together, Hader.
A car pulled close to the curb, and within seconds the two of you settled in. He gave the address and buckled in. You looked rather comfy with your face smudged against the cab window.
He smiled softly, as slowly but surely, you fell asleep. The city blurring around the two of you, bright lights and street signs becoming one. He always admired New York City at night, the way it never really stopped moving. Despite the early hours of the morning, people still bustled amongst the streets.
It was still fairly early into his departure of Saturday Night Live; his face was familiar, but not quite famous like his other costars. He could walk the streets with ease and get stopped only a few times. He didn’t know how long it’d last, but he enjoyed the sense of invisibility he carried.
You, however, were admired by many. Bill could remember your first few days on set, those who were not married or dating setting bets on you. Hader often scoffed at the idea of winning your heart amongst his coworkers, you were a constellation, and he was light-years away. That is until you mentioned that you were dating some doctor, and the competition died down.
Yet every now and then, his stomach would grow a flutter, and his cheeks would blush when you’d lay your head on his shoulder, a familiar friendly feat you’d perform after long hours in 30 Rock. He hated that he crushed someone who was taken; he never once stopped hating himself for that.
The car halted to a stop, Hader’s apartment complex sitting right outside. He eyed the cash monitor for the second time that night. In an instant, he paid the acceptable amount, tipping the driver for good measure. Almost standing up before remembering how you had fallen asleep against the window.
He huffed anxiously, wondering how on earth he would do this. The driver was obviously tired and not pleased with the hold-up between his departure towards his own comfy mattress. Grabbing his stuff, he slipped out of his side before going around to opening your door.
Your figure slumping towards the pavement before he scooped you up in his arms. Internally cursing himself if you were to wake up, and want him to rid you of himself at once. Instead, you peeked one eye open, his body heaving anxiously. Y/E/C peeking up at him in dazed confusion, before murmuring something and nuzzling deeper into his hold.
It was a skill that he hadn’t perfected, getting someone into his house, without making much noise. Not to mention the fact that you were asleep in his arms, chest rising in perfect rhythm. He nudged the cab door closed and made his way up to his apartment door. Victoriously managing to slide his hand out from underneath you and into opening his front door.
Slipping into the building, he quietly kicked the door closed behind him. You only stirred, which promptly stopped him dead in his tracks, before continuing on towards the spare bedroom he owned.
Gently he laid you down onto the bed, your body curling up at the contact of the comfortable mattress. He smiled before digging around to place a blanket over you, fitting it, so you were well adjusted to sleeping.
His heart heavy and mind slowly beginning to beg for sleep, his feet padding towards the door of the guest bedroom. That is until he heard a rustle and a soft murmur escape your lips.
“What was that, Y/N? Did you say something?” he wondered aloud, his eyes trying to adjust towards the room now blanketed in darkness.
“It’s-just, I’m not used to sleeping alone anymore, you know? I’m so tired, though, could you stay until I fall asleep?” you admitted softly, playing with the sheet covers on top of you.
Bill’s eyes widened into the size of saucers; he didn’t see this coming. He shook his head before quickly nodding in your direction; you yawned without much thought and laid back, dozing off.
He stood there absolutely puzzled on what to do, except stare, which was definitely not inappropriate whatsoever. His eyes darting anywhere in the room, but you, he focused on an old rocking chair that his mother gave him when he first moved in.
It looked comfy enough. It would do, if that’s what you wanted, that’s what a friend would do. God, he hoped that’s what a friend would do in this case scenario.
The chair creaked noisily, and he cringed every single time until you stirred once again, thrusting your hand upward into the air. He sat puzzledly until your finger flicked up and down to signal him to join you.
He gulped, “please, Bill, just for tonight?” you said with a slight whimper.
Timidly he shoved the covers outward to create space, sliding into the bed, stiff as aboard. You couldn’t help but murmur something sleepily before rolling over beside him.
He froze, but he couldn’t stay awake forever. Your head now resting upon his chest, curling into his side, you smelled nice. He let you stay put before trying to get situated himself, sleep soon beginning to overtake him.
Friends totally did this, yep, of course, they did, Bill.
