I absolutely adore your new stepdad!sylus series! I’m positively feral for you. Your writing is something so precious and beautiful and clever- you craft each sentence with so much life in it. I really love you hitting at the deeper psychological profiles of these characters- the complexities of the MC and the hidden parts of Sylus that we are given glimpses into. I adore seeing that struggle because MC pulling away and being cruel to sylus as is her protective instinctual response, mixed with the absolute hesitation and reluctance that his presence makes her feel safe, that she knows he’d never harm her. The struggle she had between the relief upon seeing him and knowing he was there in the car, the reluctance to fall asleep but being lulled and instinctively safe at his presence. And how much she hates that- hates that feeling. She both is trying to be more mature while warring with avoiding him and snapping at him but taking comfort in him. Like her own body and brain are at odds.

then with Sylus there’s this almost mix of frantic barely repressed need- the need to soothe, the need to coddle and protect, the need to watch every micro expression ever little detail. He only soothes himself by repeatedly reminding himself she came home, to him. But there’s such calculation in every action- in what he knows she will respond well too or won’t respond well too. The almost predatory (while wrapped in care) patience, to hold off on his desire to coddle, to protect, to do what his instincts demand he does. But he analyzes constantly, plans out the best route with the least resistance from her. It’s brilliant.

This ask truly made me smile and just reread it for a few moments 🥹 thank you so so much my friend.. messages like these always make me feel so seen and warm on the inside hehe 💞💓 Also you explained Mc and Sylus’s dynamic so incredibly well. As a writer im always a lil nervous that the intended effect isn’t carrying across to the readers, but you nailed this so perfectly!! (⸝⸝⸝ᵒ̴̶̷̥́ ᵕ ᵒ̴̶̷̣̥̀⸝⸝⸝) I wanna be EXTRA careful with this fic because just like u said, the complexities are very much integral to these characters & will play a big role in whatever they choose to do. I cant wait to dissect it even more for yall… super excited to show whats to come 👀 Again thank u sm for the ask bby it made me smile C:
