I have been looking at some of your old  analysis posts about yugioh gx and I saw the one where you were talking about how it made sense that Jim and O’Brien were the ones trying to defeat the Supreme King, but when you brought up Ryou and Edo, you were mainly talking about how Ryou wouldn’t defeat the Supreme King, but not Edo. Why do you think that Edo wouldn’t be the one to defeat the Supreme King?

Ooof, unfortunately it has been so long since I've watched GX properly that the details have mostly blurred in my mind. I'd need to do a full rewatch in order to properly answer your question, and I fear that's not in the cards at the moment.

And this shows what could have happened to Daisuke and Ken during Tri, and their thoughts (or Daisuke’s) about Imperialdramon fighting their friends, and the fact that they were forgotten by the other children.

This fic is amazing, I was never a fan of TK, don’t know why, but I really like him in this fic, the problems he’s facing really put in perspective his personality and everyone around him is so nice because of what’s happening. VERY EDUCATIVE FIC. 10/10.

Name: Chris Nickname: I’ve been giving various little nicknames but some have been only briefly used (pretty sure I was once nicknamed butterfly and cupcake), others are chrysanthemum (you know what, I never asked how this one came to be, split between the similarity with Chris and the cheerful meaning it can have), fried friend (born from a typo, i think you can see it :P), queen of feels (born from all the feels i would write with a good friend and how he was already called king of feels), silly (self given), morethansatsan (a play with an old url, and again, giving feels).  Zodiac sign: Cancer (water monkey in chinese zodiac; leo in moon sign, scorpio in rising).  Height: 170 cm last I knew  Languages: English, French (native tongue but I write better in English), some knowledge of Spanish, very very basic Japenese.  Nationality: French  Favorite season: Fall  Favorite flower: This is a very good question, I’ll love any that looks pleasing to me, I guess because I know them more I would say rose, but really it’s just, visual pleasing ones.  Favorite scent: I can’t say, I love when it feels “fresh” and I’ll like a lot of flowery and soft scents. Coffee, tea, or chocolate: Tea, I don’t like the taste of coffee, and while I can drink hot chocolate it’s rarely my choice (the irony is that I don’t like the taste of chocolate alone nor do I like the taste of milk alone).  Average sleep hours: it can depends, in general it’ll be around 8 hours, and sometimes it’s like, 4/5 hours then I’m awake then I nap for anywhere between 2 to 4 hours.  Dog or cat person: I love both, I feel more in tune with cats and felines in general, but I do love both!  Number of blankets you sleep with: It depends, when it’s hot I’ll sleep with one, otherwise it’s generally two, and three if it’s cold. My theory on the matter is that what Ryou heard Shou say was “I’m gonna make you respect again because this time I’m right & you’re wrong.” So what Ryou’s answer is, is “No. This is why I’m the way I am now. I don’t believe in respect anymore. Once you suffer like I did, you won’t either. You wanted to be like me, didn’t you?” Only, once Shou accepted being a respect duelist, he stuck with it no matter what. Ryou didn’t, not when pushed too hard. I love them both.

That’s a good theory! Yeah, I guess it could make sense for Ryo to respond that way if he thought that Shou was trying to force him into something. And it did kind of seem like he was expecting Shou to come to the same idea about respect that he did after being shocked repeatedly and that he wanted to show him in particular what he had been through, so that’s why he didn’t bring out the shock collars before then.

Still depressing to see such a regression in their relationship though. :\

hi I have a big problem with how Anzu is written in yugioh and I wonder how much you agree. She is so weak and helpless and i wish the anime gave her more important and more mature nature and more complicated personalty. She is even worse in fanfiction! Everyone writes like they hate her or she is like really girly and damsel in distress. How would you write her different? have you seen anyone write her better. Sorry i am new to your page if you answered this question already

Hello anon. I don’t believe I have this type of question before, so no worries.

I strongly disagree on Anzu is weak and helpless. She has a badass, take no shit attitude in season 0 yugioh (both anime and manga). Not only she defended Yugi from bullies, she also bashed the globe on a brainwashed professor so they can escape from Shadi’s control, guided the group in Death T to avoid falling blocks. Oh, it happen offscreen but she even punched a man for touching her butt at work and got fired from it (manga based). Her badass attitude got really toned down and got reduced into a love interest role, which I have to admit as an Anzu fan, I’m disappointed on Anzu’s wasted potential. I can see why some people aren’t fond of Anzu and seeing her as a non action girl if people are not familiar with season 0 Yugioh in both anime and manga. The creators were more focused on Joey, Yugi, and Seto’s character development more so than female characters. Shounen anime (at least back in the 90’s), are more focused on male characters since their intended main audience are young boys. Female characters were used by creators as as eye candy and have limited roles that are stereotypical. For example, love interest, clingy jealous girl, the nagging wife, etc.

Despite that her badass attitude is toned down from season 0, she is strong. I just wish that the creators expand more of her character and have more complicated personality. She’s certain of her future as a dancer for a 16 yer old which is impressive. How many 16 years old already knew what they want in the future? Many adults don’t know what they want in their 20’s. She’s adventurous, headstrong, and confident. Season 0 Yugioh revealed that she’s the type of person that believe one can make one’s future rather than passively get through life. She rejected the fake psychic’s services and said something like “That I can make my own future and see it for myself.”

She helped both Yugi and Atem open up more, find Atem’s past by suggesting to go to the museum, supported her friends to go on when they want to give up, doesn’t take Seto’s attitude, and discover Atem’s name. If it weren’t for Anzu discovering Atem’s name, Atem would lost to Zorc.

I saw people wrote Anzu pretty well as a well rounded person and doesn’t fall into the homophobic girl/slut shaming for the fan’s shipping, damsel in distress, or make her a villain. I have some fanfic recs that has Anzu as a well rounded person. Some fanfics have shipping and I tagged them.

If I were to write Anzu for a story, I would expand Anzu’s backstory on how she and Yugi became friends. I would expand more on how she is independent & adaptive from the traveling due her family’s work. I would write her as a headstrong woman, while trying to avoid making her short tempered. She’s an expressive person and is not afraid to show her emotions. However, she is not easily flustered unless it’s someone she likes or in extreme situations. Once she’s more comfortable with someone she likes, she’s not easily flustered. Being emotional does not make a person weak. She’s emotional, but as a dancer, she is able to express her emotions as well staying calm in stressful situations considering that she has to do dance auditions for scholarships. In the manga, Anzu is the one in charge for leading the group to avoid the falling blocks at Death T. I would write her as a strong person yet have insecurities when it comes to love.  She can be naive with trusting people too much, but she’s not taking shit from someone who mess with her. If a man cat calls her or say something sexist, Anzu would respond back with a sassy atttitude or call him out for cat calling.

hey there! for those fanfiction questions, what about any of these ones: 3,6,15,31,40,44,45,46? (they are many so ignore the ones that you don't find interesting)

3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?

Yu-Gi-Oh GX, hands down. Almost all of my fandom friends are people I met through GX and I am still in touch with many of them even though GX ended a decade ago. I met a lot of people through other fandoms too, but those contacts were generally fleeting, with one or two exceptions. GX was there for me when I was in a dark place and it will always hold a special place in my heart. And also, as I was talking about with @rhodanum​ the other day, GX might just be the most consistent of the YGO spin-offs and certainly the one I enjoyed most. Other spin-offs had some good highs, but when they went low, hooooooo boy did they go low.

I am honestly quite fond of SherryxParadox. Also JudaixParadox.

31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?

Gosh, people have said so many nice things about my writing, it’s kind of mind-boggling. The nicest things were probably when people were inspired by my writing to write stuff themselves (or draw fanart of stuff I wrote). 

40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?

TIME TRAVEL *glares at characters deciding to travel all over time*

But in all seriousness, it’s keeping the plot together and coherent. I also used to have a very bad case of adverbitis, but that’s lessened in recent years. Sometimes I feel like my writing is too simple, though I might not be the best judge of that.

44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?

Hmm, I wouldn’t mind more fanwork for JudaixYubel. Even though it’s canon, it appears less popular than JudaixJohan. 

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?

Anything by @silvormoon and @higuchimon is always worth your time! One fic I greatly enjoyed recently is The Story of Finn, a post-TFA fic and a great exploration of the Stormtroopers. Definitely worth a read!

46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?

The first answer that comes to mind would be So Far, So Good (GX), but it seems a lot of people have already read that one. Nevertheless, I greatly enjoyed working on it and it holds a very precious place in my heart! It also has two side-stories: Shades of Grey and Progression of Power, both Johan-centric. 

There’s also Walking Tall (GX), an attempt at writing kid fic which I feel succeeded quite well! 

I am also quite fond of Palinopsia (5D’s). It was a bit of an experiment in foreshadowing (BrunoxYusei, heavy on angst). In a similar category there’s Lineage of Destruction (Paradox-centric), Child of Contradictions (Antinomy-centric) and The Nobility of Failure (Z-one-centric). (... I think I need to go write an Aporia fic soon)

And even though canon has jossed it to hell and back and our own theories on the matter have changed, I still really like pieces (Arc-V), a fic I co-wrote with the lovely @ginneke.

Ah, yes, the age difference. That will mean *so* much when they're adults in their twenties & over. Except it won't. My parents had a five year age difference & were thoroughly happy together.

"Age difference', especially when it's two-three years, is just refusing to admit these characters are going to keep aging & won't be children forever. Tell me there's something wrong with twenty-one year old Iori & twenty-three year old Takeru dating one another.
