it is absurd how different my grad school experience and life trajectory would be if my school didn't hire the c#/unity professor right when they did. thanks to that one course i have been throwing myself wholeheartedly into game development and i feel like i've finally found The Thing I Want To Do. i get to be an artist, a musician, a sound designer, a problem-solver, a developer, all at once. i get to be experimental and i get to have fun and i get to make things that are really cool. i get to do a little bit of everything and learn so many new things. i get to leave my own mark on the medium that shaped me so much growing up!!!
but i never thought i could do it until i took one course that showed me that i could, and now i cannot imagine any other future for me. like will it pay my bills? probably not. but i am going to keep doing it anyway. until it stops being fun and rewarding, but right now, it is so fun and rewarding. it is worth the slight stress of giving myself deadlines, because i am making things that are so cool. words are failing me and i'm tired but it just feels Really Good to know that i've found something that feels so right. i don't have to choose between art and music and code. i can do all of those things!!!!!!

I've bumped into multiple indie games that have been like "hey, let's do a video game musical!", successfully ran a big crowdfunding campaign on that premise, and when it finally comes out the music is great, the visual presentation is great, the character designs are great, even the prose dialogue is great, but the lyrics for the musical numbers are fucking atrocious. Just really, really bad – and then it turns out that they didn't even hire a lyricist, they just had the assistant programmer write them or something. I genuinely don't get it; like, why would you specifically under-budget the one thing you based your whole sales pitch on? I've seen this happen on multiple unconnected projects.

please write a small biography about your sim! it will help me select who i think will be best for the job. you don't have go super in depth, but their bio will help me select the final sims :)
you don't need to set your sim up with degrees or skills or anything if you don't want to! i can do all of that in game myself.

the deadline for submissions is june 15th, 2025. sorry for the short window - i'm really excited to play asap lol. i'll be selecting the sims and posting about them sometime before june 21st, 2025!
i will be selecting 7 sims to be christopher's coworkers for the duration of the generation. using the club feature, these sims will act as his coworkers, and will ultimately become his and percy's primary social circle.
i am ideally looking for at least two sims from each category (engineering, biology, computer science). i want to create a well balanced team for this project, but if i don't get enough submissions for each category, i'll just cope :P
the sims will be chosen based on... vibes? i might rng if i'm stuck between who to pick. ultimately though i want to pick whoever fits best with christopher and the vibe i have for the team.
don't worry though! all sims submitted will be added to my save and live in oasis springs for the whole generation! because i use kuttoe's home regions mod, they will be the only sims populating the town, and so they'll be the sims interacting with my sims most often. they will also essentially be re-populating my save since i recently culled a bunch of random townies lol
i will absolutely be posting updates if anything interesting happens with submitted sims :) and who knows, maybe a future dean will marry a descendent or something!
🧬 sim creation info
i have all packs, so there's no pack restrictions on what you can use to dress up your sims!
your sims should have one outfit per category. don't worry about their main outfit being work appropriate - i'll be giving each sim an additional work outfit. if i need to add or change anything, i'll make sure to keep their aesthetic consistent!
cc is okay, but keep it to a moderate amount. mm preferred, hair + clothes are okay, but don't go buckwild on accessories or anything like that (unless it's important for their backstory or identity, like necessary scars, medical equipment, identifying features, etc)
if i choose not to use any of the cc given with the sim, i will change the item to something consistent in style that i already have in my game. (for example, a green t-shirt will be swapped out for a different green t-shirt)
please don't use custom body presets! custom face presets and sliders are okay, but just know that they might get messed up if i ever need to make tweaks.
feel free to use skin details and makeup, but the sims will have my defaults, and i might change up some skin details and makeup to fit in with my game better. i'll still retain their general look though! i might just go with stuff i have in my game instead of new stuff that i wouldn't normally use.
you can either link the cc they use in the post, or include them in the dl with their tray files. i don't mind either way.

OK but real thought. What if I DID make a game and Kickstart it.
I need to hire a project manager though. I know I cannot do that shit. Studies have shown.
It would be an educational point and click computer game using all my chibugs to teach kids (and all ages) about arthropods and taxonomy using a main character bug trying to figure out who his family is and where he belongs in the tree of life.
Alternatively, it could be a sticker book instead.
WITH the help of a project manager, I could absolutely get funding and grants in addition/instead of indiegogo. I vould use that money to pay myself wages so I could work on it, and hire programmers, background artists, more bug artists??

i was going to use this as an excuse to post my “omegas dealing with wife plots” bc you know, i am delaying this for six months already and it would be two rabbits with one rock kind of situation, but i thought better i guess, very late response too haha
Omega!Idia is the type of boyfriend who programm websites on special days, he makes those types of websites that ask you questions like “will you be my forever mate?” “go on a date with me?”, but anytime you try to press “no” the button runs away from you.
He will melt if you make a papercraft action figure of a character he likes, literally would place it in a shrine if he had the chance, he can feel all the love in the craft and just that is almost enough to send him into heat.
Omega!Idia is not picky on how you spend time together, he loves quality time, but sometimes his social battery is too exhausted to really interact, he may be tinkling with his projects while you stay in the background, reading most recent updates of books and comics he enjoys, play cozy games together when he feels like not putting too much effort, or more strategic games that require more skill, though he gets embarrassed afterwards if he crashes out too much in front of you.
Since he has an idea on how his future is going to be, he begins to prepare to make space for you. Even when he could hire you into S.T.Y.X through nepotism, he is diligent in teaching you the basics of engineering, however, he could always find another job within the organization for you, if you're not interested in this part of the line of work. How did you become the moderator on 4chan Yaoi??? It seems like an interesting story
I was at one point a “big name” on 4chan and I was fairly active. I applied and got selected for the “janitor” program, which was a sort of semi-mod where you had some limited powers but only over a single board. (This was all around 2007, I think?)
You could do stuff like delete posts, but you couldn’t ban people (I think you just had a “report for banning” that’d go up the chain to moot or another mod). You also had a weird firefox extension that would let you know if there was reported Bad Shit on your particular board.
I specifically became a janitor for /r/, the requests board, but all janitors had two boards, so I picked /y/ (yaoi) as my second board.
Later on because of how I did as a janitor and the various coding projects I did for 4chan (/rs/ and /r9k/ and some misc other shit I can’t remember) I got promoted to a moderator, so I was moderating all boards, not just /r/ and /y/.
It was mainly banning people doing illegal things in /b/, stopping spambots, and figuring out what the fuck the people in the fashion board were reporting stuff for (They seemed to think that if a thread went too long, it was inherently a bad argument or something, so they’d report threads where people were discussing stuff for too long?).
ANYWAY working with moot at all was a nightmare, and I happily turned him down when he offered to hire me a full time on-site programmer/moderator. I saw a lot of shit I didn’t want to, and it was mostly a big waste of time that I’m not super happy about having done, but the past is the past.
btw the funniest part of working for 4chan was after /r9k/ launched (which is based on a Randall “xkcd” Munroe proposal) and I had a chat with him and he goes “don’t take this wrong, but you seem like a pretty smart person! why the fuck are you wasting your talents on 4chan?”“ and I didn’t have much of an answer.
ANYWAYS I didn’t actually do much moderating of the yaoi board. Cleaning up spam like on all boards, occasionally deleting stuff that broke the rules (shota or furry), that’s about it. /y/ was a pretty quiet and well behaved board, at least for 4chan.

As a fellow 23-year-old, I'm lowkey shook to find out y'all are around my age and able to set aside enough time to undergo such a huge project as Keyframes! How did you guys get started in game development?
aha, only marina is 23. the other two of us are at the opposite end and almost or at 30, lol.
i can't speak for the others, but i started in game development because i applied to a writing job on a whim. lol, i'd been following indie studios up until that point on social media for a while but i didn't actually consider the possibility of making my own game. i got hired, got experience, left and then went on to work on other games! not all of them have seen the light of day, but some have! marina: On god my dev origin story was: I finished playing Blooming Panic during uni and was inspired to make a game lol. So when I saw someone looking for a programmer for a game jam, I volunteered even though I legit had 0 experience in making a game/using ren'py (shoutout to the Shooting Star Otome team for taking a chance on me lol). Two years and some projects later, I've felt confident enough to just dive in on a game of my own, and now here we are! Woo!
Floss: i've been writing for a looong time, but i'm in game dev now thanks to the original keyframes otojam project. it was definitely one of those things where you blink and suddenly you're actually making a Game, not just racing to the finish line for a jam. (couldn't ask for a better team to be doing it with.)
