As much as he despised when his sister’s boyfriend became all mushy around his girlfriend, Sachiro quickly understood the sentiment when he met you. There was nothing he wouldn’t do, no depths he wouldn’t stoop to, if it meant you’d give him a smile.

The sun was scorching hot but the well loved, slightly off-center parasol he buried deep in the sand kept you in the shade. In the glistening water kids played in the shallows under the watchful eyes of their parents and surfers tried their best to catch the next wave. Sandcastles were being build, seashells collected and beach hats chased, carried away by a cheerful breeze.

“I’m so glad we’re a couple.”, he said, stretching happily on the large blanket.

“Yeah? Why is that?”, you grinned and over the rim of your sunglasses gave him a questioning look.

“Because I don’t have to feel like a creep for staring at you in that bikini.”

“Is it not too revealing?”

“On the contrary.” He leaned closer to you, setting a little kiss on the shell of your ear before saying, “If it were up to me it could be even smaller.”

You blushed and wrapped the sheer beach kimono closer to your body. He pouted and sneakily brushed back the fabric to reveal your pudgy tummy and temptingly plush thigh.

“You know, now that I think about it… it does reveal quite a lot…”, he said slowly.

You raised a brow, quite familiar with this certain tone.

He sighed contently as he rubbed a bit of lotion onto his palms, “I love summer.” His large hands began massaging your back, having you close your eyes in bliss.

“By the way, my brother asked if he can join us for dinner next week with his wife. Is that okay with you?”, he wondered as he worked.

“Oh yeah, of course! We haven’t seen them in ages. Is his leg doing better?”

You sucked in a breath when his fingers brushed the sides of your breasts as if on accident.

“Yeah, he’ll be able to play the next match no problem. He just wants to be cautious that’s why he sat the last one out. Although I do have to say that the Adlers have been doing well without him, too. And I fully intend to tell him that when we see him.” You could hear his mischievous smirk.

heyy. Can i request a hirugami sachiro x oblivious! reader? I'm not sure if you write for Hirugami.. if not him then maybe iwaizumi? Or honestly even kunimi would be cute. Maybe Reader is close to someone from the team or is just friends/acquaintances with the respective team captains and then you know these charachters fall for her and vice versa and they give her signs that they like her but reader is just so sort of in her own world/oblivious she doesn't get it untill they actually tell her word to word. You were not unfamiliar with confessions, except you totally were. It seemed like every week that Hoshiumi heard his best friend detail another confession he had watched, and how you let it pass you by as that person being nice.

“I can’t believe it.” Hirugami sighed and slumped back in his chair. “How do you confess without her brushing it off?”

Hoshiumi munched on his food and looked over at where you sat with your friends. “Maybe she’s playing dumb on purpose so she doesn’t have to reject them,” he wondered, squinting suspiciously. You seemed to feel his stare and sharply looked over your shoulder at them, making eye contact with Hoshiumi. His nose scrunched and he stuck his tongue out at you, a gesture which you returned just like you always did. “Or she’s just too nice.”

Hirugami smiled at his friend, who seemed to not even realise how lucky he was to be family friends with you. “Maybe she already likes someone special.”

And the jealousy that bubbled in him was enough to make him green.

“He has a big fat crush on your stinky ass!” Hoshiumi said, and the words were mixed with incredulous laughter like he couldn’t believe he had to tell you at all.

The food fell off your chopsticks and you scrambled to make sure it didn’t fall on your clothes. You just saved it, but some sauce got smeared on your hand so you picked up a napkin and stared at Hoshiumi while wiping it off. “What do you mean?”

“Do you not know what a crush is or something?” he asked, glancing at where both your mothers sat on the porch to eat while the two of you were stationed on the couch inside.

“Of course I do, but Sachiro is so out of my league!” you insisted.

Hoshiumi raised an eyebrow. “Because of his amazing body?”

Your cheeks flushed. “Because of… all of him. He’s, like, perfect.” Hoshiumi frowned again, mumbling something under his breath about you not seeing Hirugami when he’s weird.

“Whatever,” he put another bite of food in his mouth. “For some reason, he likes you.”

You put your plate on the table, abandoning the food to playfully fight your friend until the conversation fizzled into the air.

The next week, you kept avoiding Hirugami, because it simply didn’t make sense to you. Hirugami Sachiro? A crush on you?

He smiled that gorgeous smile at you every day and you would somehow trip on something and try your best to sneak away.

Hoshiumi had enough. He is not a patient guy.

You didn’t stand a chance when Hoshiumi decided to push you into the janitor’s closet. The surprising part was that he seemed to have stuck Hirugami in there too, and you knew he could pick Hoshiumi up easy peasy.

“He threatened my life,” he clarified as the door slammed close behind you. Ahh, that makes more sense.

“He pushed me,” you responded, chuckling softly and looking to the side, trying to ignore how there was only about three centimetres between you two.

“How was your day up until now?”

“Just fine, Korai keeps pestering me,” you half-joked.

“You and Korai are pretty close,” he said, and it made you finally look up at him, tilting your head curiously. “He says you’re always in your own world.”

You scoffed. “That rat doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

This time Hirugami tilted his head, eyebrows furrowing. “What do you mean?”

“He said…” you sighed and lifted a hand to rest the palm on your forehead, feeling kind of warm. “Gosh, it’s so warm in here.”

Hirugami worried, putting his hand on your upper arm and leaning closer. “Are you okay?”

You were startled when he was suddenly so close. And touching you. So you shifted your legs, which made them bump into his so he tripped a little, leading to an accidental kabedon with one of his arms leaned on either side of your head. “I’m so sorry!” you squealed.

He chuckled, but it sounded a bit like… stuttering. Every breath you took in felt heavy with whatever this was between you. “No, no, I’m sorry.”

You looked at those kind eyes and took a deep breath before letting the words fall out with the exhale. “Do you have a crush on me?”

Hirugami’s breath hitched and he tried to lean away from you, but ended up bumping the back of his head on the wall and then caressing it with an ‘ow’.

“Careful!” you scolded.

“How did you know?!”

You gasped. It’s true? “Hoshiumi said so!”

He blinked at you before lowering his hands to his sides. “Why did you avoid me then?” he asked, seemingly hesitating before he continued. “It’s okay if you don’t like me back, I always thought you liked Hoshiumi.”

You laughed loudly like it was the dumbest thing you ever heard. “No! I just didn’t believe him!“

“So then you avoided me? Here I am trying to talk to you every day and you don’t think I like you?” he asked incredulously, but the smile seemed to be stuck on his face despite his frustration.

“I know! I’m sorry!” At this point, every word you said was a giddy giggle, because you couldn’t believe he said he liked you. “I like you too.”

He laughed as well, one hand carefully reaching over to loosely entangle his fingers with yours. “Can I… kiss you?”

“Mhm…” You slowly leaned closer, but just as your lips met, the door was ripped open, which made you abruptly pull away.

“Hoshiumi, go away!” Hirugami yelled before freezing when he saw a teacher standing there, tapping their foot impatiently.

And as you leaned your forehead on his chest, you didn’t care that the teacher was about to write you both a detention.

What about Miya twins always popping randomly at the court side of Kamomedai because they wanna flirt with their manager (which is you) and that annoys Sachiro cuz why the hell are they flirting with you? His your boyfriend only should he get to flirt with you.

Miya twins finding out that you are dating Sachiro and made it their goal to piss off the middle blocker during one of their official matches, which they manage to pull off because Sachiro got a little intense seeing how Atsumu winks at your way everytime he pulls off a service ace and Osamu who strikes up a conversation with you when changing sides.

Sachiro having enough of their antics and decided to counter attack by blocking one of their twin freak combo and kissing you on the cheeks, he made sure that they saw it and stuck his tongue out at them.

Miya twins who got scolded by Kita and got the twins go to you and Sachiro to apologize after the game although it ended with the twins running away from a mad Sachiro because Osamu push his luck and kiss the back of your hand while Atsumu tried to invite you for a dinner

I used to wonder how to write angst/conflict into HQ fics because everyone is so healthy and well-adjusted by the end of the story. Which is absolutely not a criticism! I stan! It's one of my favorite things about the manga, but my brain is small and my imagination didn't know what to do will all these completed emotional journeys. Then I realized that you can take those healthy traits to an extreme for some delicious drama & character development - positive or negative ,':D

Hirugami's relaxed detachment sliding into apathy and depression, caring less and less until nothing matters much at all.

Hoshiumi's desire to prove himself turning everyone into competiton. Everything is a threat, a perceived slight. Only when it's too late does he realize it's lonely at the top.

Oikawa's ambition turning into a hungry monster that even he can't control. Nothing's ever enough. He doesn't even know what he wants anymore. All he knows is that he wants.

Iwaizumi's strength and stability going overboard; now he can't show any weakness at all. He's the reliable one. People depend on him. So he has to keep it together, no matter how much he wants to fall apart.

Kuroo being so skilled at reading others and adapting to them that it becomes unsettling. He sees all the things that people won't say. And he usually only uses his powers of perception for good, but maybe, just maybe, one day he'll use them for himself.

A Simple Plan

Objectively, your plan was flawless and fairly simple.

Step one: walk up to Hirugami

Step two: ask him to tutor you

Step three: make him fall in love with you so that he confesses his undying feelings, get married, adopt a bunch of dogs and live happily ever after

Simple.

But subjectively there was one tiny problem. You didn‘t need tutoring - a truly horrible fate of the top of the class. But as he wasn‘t in your year, it should be easy to get around. All you had to do was pretend that you didn‘t understand the subject. Again, simple. But since everything came easy to you, it was hard to figure out how much feigned stupidity you could get away with without seeming like you would need professional help.

And suddenly, one of Hirugami‘s most attractive qualities became your downfall.

Of course the middle blocker had caught on to you when you first derived a formula perfectly without needing to consult any of the mountains of books next to you but then insisted that lightyears were a unit of time, not distance.

And so, as you both pondered over your physics homework, he decided to play along. Running his pen along the page as he read the problem out loud, he threw you sidelong glances and asked question after question making them increasingly easier, thoroughly enjoying you squirming in your seat as you tried to keep up your act.

But you were committed to your bit even though you were at this point wondering if your plan may not have been entirely thought through. How could you make him see you as a potential love interest when all you did was make yourself look like you even needed help putting on your shoes in the morning? And it wasn‘t like you had much else going for you. The smart, handsome, athletic types weren‘t exactly known for going for the chubby ones - smart or not

As he talked, you used the opportunity to stare at him. The slope of his nose, the soft waves of his hair that looked so so inviting to run your fingers through, his eyes, so focused on what he was writing…

“There.“, he said, “I solved it for you. Maybe we should work backwards from this.“

With great difficulty you tore your gaze away from his achingly pretty lips and blinked a few times to focus on the page in front of you. Then you frowned. The equation he had written down was wrong.

What should you do?

“What‘s the matter?“, he asked, evidently a much better actor than you, because he could hide his mischievous grin.

“That‘s wrong.“ You said it without meaning to. The words flew out of your mouth before you had a chance to catch them. “That‘s completely wrong - that‘s the formula for heat, not magnetism.“

He put his elbow on the table and leaned his head leisurely on his fist, smirking at you.

“I gotta give it to you, you kept it up for quite a while there.“

Adrenaline shot through your veins. Your whole body tensed as you tried to decide on fight or flight.

“I am… so sorry, senpai. I- I just wanted to find a way to talk to you and I didn‘t know how and- you know what, don’t mind me. I’m just gonna switch schools and get a new identity“, you say shakily and are surprised when he starts laughing.

“It‘s alright, y/n-chan.“, he chuckles and your heart, previously pumping like crazy, stops altogether.

“You’re not mad?”, you ask carefully.

He just shrugs, “No, why? I’m glad you did.”

Your jaw dropped.

“What?”

“Hey, Hirugami! Come on, practice!”, the short ace from the volleyball club yelled impatiently from the door across the library, not perturbed by the glare from the librarian.

Hirugami gave him a thumbs up and began collecting his books.

As he shouldered his backpack he turned as if remembering something.

“Same time tomorrow?”

You could only nod and looked after him as he hurried to join his friend.
