In your Jewel redesign, you said that Wasp probably wouldn’t let her get away with full drag, but that does make me curious. What would a dragon in drag would look like?

you will not BELIEVE how much I've thought about this, both during and after designing her. I can answer your question and beyond!!

The (Drag) Queens of Pantala

In order to properly explore Pantalan drag, I first looked to the (cultural) definition of drag itself, as well as learning some brief history. With the first known preformance occurring in 1867 (Although not truly popularized until the 19th century,) Human Rights Campaign and other LGBTQ+ organizations describe drag as a preformance art form that uses costumes, makeup and other tools to illustrate exaggerated expressions of gender identity, intended to critique gender inequality or other social justice issues. Drag has traditionally been preformed/pioneered by members of the LGBTQ+ community, predominantly gay men and/or people of color.

With this in mind, Pantalan drag was most likely created and developed by Silkwings (especially in jewel hive) as a form of protest art. I imagine the movement was later popularized by hivewing audiences, becoming more palatable to the wider public after being endorsed by a privileged group as art movements often are. While there are a myriad of social justice issues Pantalan drag could have originally meant to critique, the loss of Silkwing rights and deforestation of Pantala were probably the two main driving topics.

Their Artistic Process

As for the actual production of drag costumes or makeup, Silkwings would have had to work with what was available to them - fruits, vegetables, basic dyes/craft materials and their own silk. They would construct their own jewelry using beads instead of gold, weave their garments, and grind mica with pigments and oil to make eyeshadow.

Leaves, roots and trees would be frequent design elements of early drag: with the eye-catching glamour of a dragon working to simultaneously distract detractors and seek out supporters. Heavy accessorizing and imagery of wealth would also be important to presenting Silkwings as equal to Hivewings, through metaphorical sense. The processes of creating Pantalan drag is what leads me to believe it would prosper best in jewel hive: outside of their relaxed rules and support of Silk/Hive equality, they would also have easiest access to craft materials, dyes and a lively art scene.. endorsed by Lady Jewel herself.

Alacrity of the Rainwings: Artistic, loyal as fck. uses venom to make wood sculptures. bc of her albinism, she grew up spending most of her time in the Nightwing village, which is where she met Ardor. they're very black cat (Alacrity)/golden retriever (Ardor) coded. ((they're pining for each other soo bad it's actually embarrassing)). anyway basically the Rainwing village is too sunny for her so that's why she and ardor grew up together

Ardor of the Nightwings: So enthusiastic. would not hurt a FLY. has a pet sloth that he takes to JMA. very much in love with Alacrity, does NOT know she likes him back. would want to try to protect Alacrity if smth happened, but she can totally handle it, so he'd mostly stand back and cheer her on while she kicks some ass. also I headcanon that rainwing and nightwing naming conventions start to blend after a few years of living in the rainforest together, which is why Ardor has more of a rainwing-y name!!!

Mint of the Leafwings: Her parents were Poisonwings, so she definitely has an idea in her head about Hivewings. she's easily riled up, but open minded in the sense that she will always hear the other person/side out before throwing claws. she can be pretty mistrustful and wary, but she's also very intelligent. she doesn't know how to deal with Carniolan, because the Hivewing is so weird around her. she spends several months thinking Carniolan is up to something until Tiktaalik exasperatedly pulls her aside like, "Mint, Carniolan thinks you're cute and she probably just wants to hold talons and fly off into the sunset with you." at that point, Mint has her 'oh. oh.' moment

Carniolan of the Hivewings: her parents were from jewel hive, so she always has accessories, including gems embedded in the scales down the sides of her neck and tail. she often wears a clip-on feather frill (optional, colors can be whatever but in the ref they're light purple), horn cuffs, and other jewelry. she also often wears a cloak/cape with fluffy fur lining. she's kinda a nervous wreck, especially around Mint, who she has a massive crush on. one of her favorite things to do is explore pyrrhia

Tiktaalik "Ikta" of the Seawings: Snooty, rich, stuck up, needs to unlearn some things. part of the extended royal family (daughter of one of the 320000 Seawing princes). eventually integrates into the group and figures her sht out. she's still a mean lesbian tho. think haley from stardew valley vibes

Raptor of the Skywings: Himbo jock, spends a lot of time in the prey center, or flying around the mountain, or loudly trying to play the drums etc. bro can NOT sit still.

Carp of the Mudwings: Quiet, studious, but also an extrovert, loves meeting new dragons and going to classes. he's just a friendly lil guy! he has four sibs, but he was the only one who wanted to go to JMA. his bigwings didn't want him to go, but allowed it anyway.

Hare of the Sandwings: Shy and kinda emo lol. he likes music, and he spends a lot of time in the music cave with raptor, or in the library with carp (that's where he works on his lyrics). he wants to be a songwriter but realistically he'd need to get over his shyness a bit first.

Caribou of the Icewings: from Where-no-Dragon-Goes-Hungry, kinda sheltered. only knew Icewings until she went to JMA. she was trying to hide from everyone on her first day by holing up in the art cave, when Oakleaf dropped by and immediately decided they were friends. they stick together in social settings

Oakleaf of the Silkwings: smallest of the winglet, can be brash, bossy, and assertive. he's also pretty funny, and he can't go for long without coming up with an amusing comment to add to the conversation. he also recently moved from pantala, so he's a bit more unsure about things than he usually would be. this really brings out his posturing side, and he struggles a bit to make friends. (other than Caribou, who he immediately chooses to befriend because he likes her vibe)

Each stained glass has a unique content, reflecting the essence of the tribe, and could hang in some palace. There are no fills, this is a kind of coloring. There are layers with textures, tone and the so-called "Ambient Occlusion", which gives the stained glass realism. You can use all this as you wish. If some details are unclear, then do not hesitate to ask, I will explain what is depicted, because due to the stylization, the stained glass has many "cuts".
