lately i've been in a 'listen to pop and be happy' mindset so it's mostly pop/viral stuff. perhaps you guys already know the majority of these?

the first one is a fun song with lyrics about what it's like gaming with your friends. i like to listen to it before, well, gaming with my friends heheh

this second one's a fun watch for the funky cowboys. i listen to it a lot to get into the "gotta make that money make purse!!!" mindset as they themselves put it in the song

the third song is a classic from daft punk's 2001 matsumoto leiji collab. i heard it again in 24 hour restaurant recently at like 4am and have been having yet another series of looping sessions with it ever since. forever groovin to this one!!!

fourth is, well... hololive. what else can i say lololol. marine is my favorite vtuber she knows how to tell stories well and play off the audience to great comedic effect. she also does fantastic voice work. just classic good entertainment. and this song is super fun i have her besties having fun collab with indonesian vtuber kobo in my on repeat too actually

the last one is from this neat ongoing song project where the artists give the public the ability to vote on character's ongoing criminal trials based on what's presented in music videos and some voice acting and then progress the story from there. lots of bangers from this series cuz it's a collab between deco*27 and the frontman of the oral cigarettes! the subtitles are a must for this one - also do some research on the video meaning and the project in general for sure if it piques your interest

Back when the merger happened, the plan felt very simple. KR will attach themselves to JP while ID will try for EN and hopefully everyone has a nice enough residual to survive.

But everything was the opposite otherwise. KR was well-prepared for the merger. By the end of the merger, only KR people left mostly had strong relations with JP in one or another. KR were given more freedom in collaborations rather than the opposite for ID. And strangely, after KR was able to establish itself in JP, KR as a whole was able to hold together as a definition against the now dominant JP. ID, however, was more than happy to be defined by itself.

ID grew inward as the COVID raged on, in earlier days ID was able to collab very much with people like MAHA5 and HoloID, but as those companies started to grow ambitions, NijiID kind of was left behind. They honestly did not have enough to grow on their own.

And of course, in a cruel twist of fate, the merger happened right when ID was booming due to the end of COVID. KR also boomed around those times, but KR wouldn’t have gotten much from the boom as inter-agency interaction in KR was exceedingly rare. Waktagood was partially inspired by the seeming closed-world nature of Hololive during the second boom (which was only caused by COVID, consider the rising number of outside collabs from Hololive recently) which meant Isegye Idols have very little interaction outside Wakta Universe, and hence very little overlap in the fandom as well. Other groups seem to borrow a similar philosophy. When there were more friendly groups, KR was big enough that they were reaching below.

This might be from a personal perspective, but while I think KR interaction with outside group for example if Roha or Seffyna interacted with Kanna for example, only form of awkward would be due to respect more than anything, if NijiID interacted with someone from AKA Virtual, I think there would be a genuine sense of awkwardness, like there is kind of a generation gap.

I think this is because KR was so small and minimal during its earliest days that KR felt like it really started after the merger, while ID has that history from before the merger. It’s almost flipped in terms of prestige. This means that NijiID might have a hard time absorbing the Third Boom even if the merger did not happen. I mean look at MAHA5, for one… Meanwhile, HoloID took care of this by the way of 3rd Gen simply generating its own fandom.

And that initial plan of NijiID attaching themselves to EN started to fall apart as soon as ID was starting to blend into EN, EN started to buckle under its own pressure and ID simply fell with them. I am not sure how far the fall will take us, but it is likely that the fall is large, which means if EN is about to walk the same path, EN’s fall would be a lot larger than ID.

Generation 2: “Holocouncil”

Nanashi Mumei: “The guardian of civilization”. Her favorite hobby is bullying Ouro Kronii. Her second favorite hobby is gaslighting Ouro Kronii about the bullying. Her third favorite hobby is murder. Has just so much anxiety. Likes to insult/disparage her official mascot character. Has a dog named Animal. Openly hostile to her chat whenever things aren’t going her way in the game. Can speak faster than the speed of sound. Has made a series of distressing portraits of other hololive members. Has roleplayed before, and has roleplayed on stream. Holds her pencils “like a cavewoman”.

Hakos Baelz: “chaos”. Somehow, the level-headed one of the group. Streams from a shed. Has been jump-scared by her own mother. Several times. Insists that she is 12 years old. Was repeatedly shipped with another member, Irys, and turned this into a gag where they got married and divorced every stream. Terminally zoomer. Gets called “Bae” unironically by everyone. Shockingly fit, used to play basketball. Has a singing voice bafflingly unlike her normal voice.

Ceres Fauna: “The keeper of nature”. Admitted to stealing the title from the actual warden, who she cursed and keeps as a pet. Roleplays turning her fans in to trees. Constantly sounds like she’s about to start speaking in uwu. Actually the best gamer in Hololive English by a long shot. Had an emo phase and still loves goth stuff. Encouraged a trend of her being drawn in a “cowkini”. Vegan. Has a cat named Snail. Goes “uuuuuu” when upset, or focused, or excited, or angry, or most other emotions.

Ouro Kronii: “The warden of time”. The ultimate failwoman. Goes “GWAK” and other strange noises when flustered, which is constantly. Insists she is perfect and the perfect gamer. “Is not a happy person, but would like to be happy”. Makes noises like she’s physically pained if something happens to her minecraft base. Makes “puns” that don’t work. Laughs at her own jokes. Insists that everyone looks at the “ribbon” situated on her chest. Owns beige crocs.

Tsukimo Sana: “The speaker of space”. Unfortunately, the first (and so far only) member of Hololive English to retire (referred to as “graduation”). Fantastic artist and ray of sunshine.

Bonus: “Project Hope”

IRyS: Debuted on her own as a “vsinger” not a part of any generation. Began streaming & partaking in more regular vtuber activities after finding them enjoyable. Informally adopted in to HoloCouncil. Has watched probably too much anime, even compared to everyone else here. The queen of accidental innuendo. Used to think green apples were “unripe apples”. Has a fascinating and baffling lack of common knowledge in general. Does not appear fluent in either of the languages she speaks. Somehow still has one up on Kronii most of the time.

Passing Thoughts 3

First Impressions of the new Nijisanji Wave "XSOLEIL" a.k.a. Fangirling Over Nijisanji

Very positive first impressions of the new wave! Usually when a generation debuts, there is one member of the group that I really really really like, except in cases like Lazulight (Nijisanji EN's 1st gen), Ethyria (Nijisanji EN's 3rd wave... it really seems like third waves are lucky, like in the case of Hololive JP's famous 3rd gen), and Luxiem (Nijisanji EN's 4th gen) where there are 3+ favorites in the group, but I think that it is really special that in their 7th gen (XSOLEIL), there are 2 personalities that I have really taken a liking to!

Ike Eveland is my favorite male EN member, but Ver Vermillion from the newly released group may be a second favorite, though it would be difficult to outshine Uki Violetta. From his 2.0 stream, it seems that he's an INFP as well, which is strange because I always seem to get along really well with INFPs (both romantically and in friendships). It seems like a stereotype for ENFJs and INFPs to be compatible though, so I'm just another cog in the Jungian psychological theory! I usually am not super into characters that are the super voluptuous, "mommy" stereotype in anime/Vtubers, but I really liked Meloco Kyōran. Both her and Hex are fellow rain-lovers, and I can really respect that.

Ver's character illustrator (@fuyuomi) also did two of my favorite male Vtuber designs Holostars' Rikka and Nijisanji JP's Hayato Kagami, they are a great artist! I wasn't familiar with Meloco's artist beforehand but her character art looked really pretty with the Live2D rendering!

you know how sheltered LyriLily girls are right? to the point they know almost NOTHING about modern technology. anyway, my theory is that Aira used to get everything he wanted cus he's the "heir" of the family (if we're talking of prestigious Asian families, the first male child is always the heir. in my hc here Kurumi is a year older than Aira cus she's a second year rn while Aira is still first year).

meanwhile, the Shiratori family thought they must raise Kurumi like a "proper lady to be married to a prestigious family in future." so Arisugawa and being sheltered from EVERYTHING. so my hypothesis is that earlier Aira and Kurumi didn't really get along well. it was more like two strangers living in the same house.

however, once LyriLily came into place and D4FES happened, Aira became a HUGE LyriLily fan. the biggest fan of LyriLily and the biggest fan of Kurumi Shiratori, his older sister. After D4FES, Aira and Kurumi became very good friends. they were finally allowed to mingle more due to Kurumi's DJ activites.

Aira isn't really a fan of DJ music in general, but he loves LyriLily!!! because their music is so "rabui~". he went CRAZY when the Hololive collab happened!! HIS SISTER COLLABORATED WITH HOLOLIVE VTUBERS!!! CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW BIG THAT IS??? Kurumi doesn't get Aira's hype but she's SO glad she finally has someone in family to share all of this.

still, somewhere down, Aira can't help but feel sad that while his sister made it big, he's still staying at his home doing nothing but fangirling over his idols all day.....

but when Aira becomes a part of ES? HE'S SO NOT NORMAL. HE FINALLY GETS TO BECOME WHAT HE HAS IDOLISED FOR SO LONG.

now, due to the hectic schedule of being an idol/being in a DJ unit, they sadly don't get much time to spend together. but! as i mentioned Aira abuses idol powers! alongside visiting ES, they often go around the town together. and Aira is flabbergasted by how little Kurumi knows of the city. "how did we grow up in the same house" is what he thinks. well, rich prestigious Asian households bias ig Aira </3

anyway, i like to imagine that sometimes Kurumi sneaks off from her servants unwatched and. unknowingly stumbles upon HiiKohaAi on a date together in a cafe. and when Aira spots her he SCREAMS. now i like to imagine Kurumi doesn't really know the difference between platonic love and romantic love (not hcing her as aro, more like she just doesn't label or categorise love). so she doesn't really get why the scream. like to her they are friends (romantic) hanging out together. even if KohaAi are holding hands and Hiiro kissed Aira on the cheek the moment Aira noticed Kurumi's existence. and Aira dies of embarassment while Hiiro agrees with her and Kohaku simply. chooses to ignore the conversation.

Aira talks of something about city/idol culture and both Hiiro and Kurumi go "huh what's that" and Aira goes (flabbergasted but affectionately) "how come both of you are so clueless about this? also Neechan we grew up in the same house how sheltered were you that you don't know this." Aira simply cannot come to terms with how different they grew up. (also, Kurumi was originally Onee-sama to him. because of their family. after D4FES Aira took to calling her Neechan when they were alone or amongst friends)

Mayoi is SCARED AS FUCK of Kurumi, no matter how much Aira reassures him that she doesn't mean harm. he does NOT like being pranked and probably hides in vents whenever he hears ANYTHING indicating Kurumi's presence. Tatsumi ADORES Kurumi and the rest of the LyriLily girls. they have Bible studies together (though Kurumi and Miiko don't really pay attention HAHA). also, their pranks, to their dismay, don't faze Tatsumi. who laughs at them and sees them as nothing but "youthful innocence".

Miiko is INTRIGUED by Mayoi. The Phantom. Whenever she visits ES courtesy of Kurumi she's on the lookout to catch Mayoi. she probably knows a third of ES's hiding spots by now by sheer force. The horrors don't scare her, they attract her. Mayoi's hiding spots are dwindling. he is terrified.

Haruna, to put it simply, not a fan of Alkaloid except Tatsumi. she respects him as a proper gentleman. until one day her personal driver fails to pick her up due to illness and Tatsumi volunteers to drive her home. she doesn't come near Tatsumi for the next three weeks.

but Miyu and Miiko LOVE Tatsumi's driving? ESPECIALLY MIYU?? in general, Miyu is fond of ALL of Alkaloid. they're completely different from the people she's usually around. in fact the entire world of ES is so fascinating and new to her. everytime she visits ES it's like a child visiting an amusement park for the first time. also, she loves Alkaloid and their history. it's so inspiring to her. she cannot get enough of this world so different from the Arisugawa atmosphere....

anyway this turned out too long. i think I'm done for now. i literally made up an entire world where Kurumi and Aira are siblings and LyriLily and Alkaloid are friends LMFAOAOA. but hope you enjoyed it! if you've read this far anyway lol

Holocure Character Guide: Holomyth

NOTE: This guide was written for 0.3.1656470021. The Hololive EN characters didn't change much in the 0.4 update, so it should be mostly accurate, but item recommendations in particular are probably wrong.

Each character has a basic weapon they start the game with, three unique upgradable skills, and a super attack. These interact to make (for instance) Calli and Sana play very differently, even when armed with the same weapons and items. I’ve played each of them at least a couple of times, and will do my best to explain these differences and how best to use them.

Amelia Watson

Ame is a pretty basic character—appropriate, since she’s one of the few ordinary-ish humans in Hololive (outside the early JP generations).

Her starting weapon is a pistol that can only fire left or right (in my opinion, the most annoying to aim out of any starter weapon), and two of her skills just boost damage and critical rate. Her special freezes enemies in place (while boosting her pistol’s firing rate), and her third skill lets Bubba run around, fetching XP and hurting enemies. Pretty much any loadout works on her, with the exception of loadouts that just don’t work at all.

Also, you can pet the dog.

Gawr Gura

Gura’s skills lend themselves to a specific sort of playstyle, focusing on numerous small strikes and not getting hit.

The most important, at least for building her kit around, is her Shark Bite, which has a chance to put a “bite mark” on enemies each time they’re hit, increasing damage taken and potentially healing you when they’re killed. You need weapons that hit a lot for tiny amounts of damage per hit to take full advantage of this mechanic.

Gura’s basic weapon, a fork trident, has good range and strikes multiple times when upgraded, but its narrow attack area means aim is critical (and it struggles with crowds). The Power of Atlantis creates whirlpools that trap enemies and make them more vulnerable to damage. Just be sure to attack them—you aren’t running a catch-and-release program. Her special is pretty straightforward—one big attack, then she “reflects” on her performance gets bonuses to damage and speed for a bit.

Finally, there’s Short Height, which causes enemies to sometimes miss her because they’re used to fighting taller people. After dodging this way, Gura gets half a second of invulnerability and speed boost, which is hopefully enough to get you to safety. Combine with Headphones for, at maximum level, a 57.75% chance of ignoring any attack that hits. Just don’t assume that this combo makes you invulnerable. (For more than half a second at a time, I mean.) Short Height also combines well with Sake and other items items that buff you if you haven’t been hit.

I don’t know where else to put this, so I’ll squeeze it in here: Gura and Ina get a semi-unique bonus with the Cutting Board weapon and derivatives. I find this interesting, because their base weapons have something in common—both are long and narrow, compared to other (non-projectile) weapons. This has its advantages, but it has big weaknesses called “sides and back”—weaknesses that the fully-upgraded cutting board solves by throwing extra cutting boards at all of those weaknesses.

Is this a coincidence, or an intentional design choice? What weapons will Ollie, Shion, and that famous necromancer have?

Ninomae Ina’nis

Ina’s a fun one. If you play her right, she’s jumping into the middle of enemy hordes and smashing them to pieces.

The first and most obvious piece of the puzzle is her Special Attack, which summons a bunch of tentacles before turning Ina into a damp, sticky buzzsaw. If you don’t throw yourself into a mass of enemies, it won’t do much. If you do, it can wipe out an enemy mob. The second only-less-obvious-because-it-takes-time-to-unlock piece is Ina’s Cult skill, which grants a damage bonus for having lots of targets around.

Now, jumping into a big pit of violent fans could be somewhat dangerous. Enter The Void, a skill which slows enemies as they get close. This helps mitigate that danger, by making it harder for enemies to reach you. Of course, it doesn’t help any once the enemies do reach you; you still need to avoid running into enemies, and grabbing some weapons with knockback (like max-level Spider Cooking) can hardly hurt.

The last thing you need to worry about is not dying. The Ancient Ones skill helps out with that, turning enemies into harmless ghost takodachis (which still count for the Cult skill, and heal you at maximum level). But it only does so much; you’ll want defensive items as well. Nurse Horns are good on everyone, of course, but they’re worth pointing out; the times when Ina is most vulnerable (in the middle of an enemy horde) are when she should be killing the most enemies.

Defensive items are good, especially the best defensive item in the game. What else? Ina needs some close-range weapons, but mostly to protect her from the enemies she’s jumping into. Cult’s damage bonus applies whether the enemies are two pixels from hitting you or offscreen, so she benefits from mixing short- and long-range weapons.

I haven’t really talked about Ina’s default weapon, Summon Tentacle, because it’s hard to fit into this framework I’ve been building. I’ve been talking about how Ina wants to jump into the middle of big groups of enemies, and her tentacle…has the longest range of any starting weapon except some projectiles, and while wider than Trident Thrust or Bird Feather, it’s still narrower than many other starting weapons.

As for actual advice: You can “swipe” with the tentacle by moving while it’s extended to hit more enemies. This is particularly useful when an enemy you thought you should have hit ends up in one of the tentacle’s weird curls. Advancing a starting weapon to max level ASAP is rarely bad advice (unless you’re playing Baelz), but it’s especially rewarding on Ina, whose level 7 ability is probably the coolest out of the entire cast.

Takanashi Kiara

I would rate Kiara as the best for new players to pick up. She’s pretty simple; run around, slash with your nice broad sword, and set everything on fire.

Kiara’s basic attack is pretty simple—a sword-swing that grows and grows and eventually gets set on fire. Before Calli’s rework, it was by far the easiest Holomyth starting weapon to aim, and it’s still pretty easy. Her special attack, Phoenix Fire, is also straightforward; one big explosion, and some lingering flames to protect you (or to lure enemies into).

Her skills are pretty easy to understand, too. Phoenix Shield can help defend you, but it’s only effective if you only take damage every once in a while. Trailblazer creates damaging (and eventually slowing) fire where you walk; it’s beneficial to inexperienced players, because it lets them do damage by running away. Speaking of running, Dancer provides a damage boost as long as you keep moving. (You can stop for a fraction of a second without losing the buff, but not reliably.) There’s rarely a reason not to move, so this is a pretty easy buff to maintain (unless you’re even more fumble-fingered than me).

Kiara works pretty well with any weapons or items. I personally recommend going for MiComet and Dragonfire, so you can paint the map orange with flames, but that’s more of an aesthetic concern than a tactical one.

Calliope Mori

Calli has gone through some serious changes in recent updates. She’s been buffed, partly by tweaking some skills, but mostly by changing how her scythe works on its own.

Once, the scythe was for many people the trickiest weapon to use; it covered a wide arc, but only a narrow slice along it, some distance from Calliope—and that distance only grew as you upgraded the scythe. Many people found it more difficult to aim than any other basic weapon—you didn’t need to work hard to get the angle right, but you could only attack at a fairly specific distance.

And even if you were better at keeping your distance than aiming, the dead zone meant that enemies surrounding you on multiple sides could easily trap you, unable to attack if you didn’t have some other close-range weapons to fill the gap. And even in that case, Calliope would still be in danger, because she is all about that scythe.

The Rapper boosts damage within a certain radius, which affects all weapons with a shorter range than her scythe, but also affects her scythe. Death causes some extra effects when enemies are killed with the scythe (or by Death’s explosions, which are triggered by the scythe). And her special attack, The Reaper, mostly just boosts her scythe damage.

Sure, it boosts crit damage too, but Calli isn’t very crit-focused. And it’s honestly kinda disappointing for most of the game—it’s not hard to boost your scythe to the point that it kills basically all non-boss enemies for the first twelve minutes. You’ll fall behind the curve if you grab some useful items in the early minutes, but you should catch up before you actually need to kill enemies in a single swipe. For ~60% of the game, The Reaper is a boss-killing special. And it’s quite good at that!

I should also briefly mention Workaholic. It provides a stacking damage buff whenever you kill enemies that only goes away if you stop killing them. This is a big part of why Calli’s scythe is so deadly—it’s very easy to kill some enemies and never stop long enough for the buff to go away.

So aside from buffing the scythe, what should you get? Other weapons that can benefit from The Rapper’s close-range damage buff are ideal, particularly Spider Cooking. It used to be more important, to fill in the scythe-arc’s huge dead space and help judge how close you were to enemies, but it’s still handy. Spider Cooking, BL Book, and Cutting Board help cover Calli’s back, where her scythe isn’t reaping.

She also needs defensive items. Most characters have at least one defensive skill, at least something that slows down enemies like The Void or Down Under, but Calli’s only innate defense is an overwhelming offense. Nurse Horns are an excellent choice for any character, but Calli’s sheer lethality makes them an especially good choice.

If you like living dangerously, Face Mask and Injection-Type Asacoco are also worth considering. They give huge damage buffs, in exchange for making you extremely fragile. ITA and Nurse Horns seem like they would make a potent combination—all the power of Asacoco with enough healing to practically negate the downside—but I’ve never been able to test it.

Old Calli should never take Knightly Milk; it would extend her scythe outside The Rapper’s range, which kinda defeats the purpose of the skill. However, I tested New Calli with Knightly Milk, and it looks like even a maxed-out scythe with maxed-out milk stays within level 3 Rapper’s range. Man, this guide sure had to change a lot after Calli update, huh? I hope no other characters were updated enough to completely invalidate parts of this guide…

Can you explain the whole Rushia deal for someone who isn't in the vtuber scene or follows it heavily?

Uruha Rushia was a member of popular vtuber talent agency Hololive, a member of its' third generation of streamers. she had well over 1.5 million subscribers and was with hololive for the better part of three years before her termination yesterday. sometime in early february, i dont know the exact date, during a livestream rushia accidentally displayed a discord message from a friend. the message called her by a nickname connected to her former pre-hololive identity and gave some people the impression the two were in a relationship.

despite denial from both parties on the matter rumors and harassment descended down on rushia from fans of both herself and her friend, because otakus are worthless wastes of human bodies who cant stand the idea of an idol being in a relationship. this harassment continued for days on end and despite numerous attempts to quell it by all parties involved it simply would not stop. rushia went on a stream hiatus and basically went silent on twitter. during this time it is now known that she reached out to certain people with the intention of clearing her name and protecting herself.

on february 14th, Cover Corporation, the tech company that manages Hololive, released a statement on the matter. in a shocking twist and one that's really going to make this whole thing worse later on, Cover actually defended Rushia's right to have a private life and stated they would not interfere with what she does in her personal time. furthermore they stated that the slander and harassment of Rushia and other idols has caused them severe emotional distress. at the time this was seen quite favorably as traditionally all Cover ever does to idols caught up in controversy is to suspend them for weeks on end. such a suspension is often cited as one of the reasons 4th gen member Kiryu Coco left the company after her own major incident.

however, the statement also contained mention of Cover investigating information leaks and where misinformation was coming from. nothing was thought of this at the time but as it turns out this was the real meat of the statement.

on february 24th, after 10 days of silence from both Cover and Rushia, another statement was released announcing the sudden and immediate termination of her contract. in short they fired her. the reason cited was that Rushia had been leaking both true and false information regarding confidential company matters to unaffiliated third parties, causing the company "reputational damage" to the point where they are no longer able to manage her.

Rushia herself and several other hololive members have asked us to refrain from speculation and at this time i will continue to respect that. while i certainly have my own theory on what happened and you can find many other posts and articles online that go into the nitty gritty details of what Rushia did during the time before management stepped in and how that created the ultimate situation, out of respect for Rushia and because she explicitly asked, I won't be sharing any more information than what I have today.

 what i will say is that this is unequivocally a failure on management's end as it was with coco and as it will continue to be for the next unfortunate member who finds herself in a bad situation forced to fend for herself. there were several days where Rushia had to take the full brunt of those rumors and harassment all by herself with zero support from Cover. whatever she did during that time she did to protect herself and the hard truth is none of it had to happen if Cover didnt drop the ball AGAIN. regardless of the truth of the claims of information leaks i consider this incident to be 100% the fault of Cover Corporation and the absolutely tragic termination of a vtuber who was dealt the worst hand possible over a single minor mistake.

As of now, her hololive channel is terminated by a 3rd party due to bad things making us fandeads/nekofami worry. But we'll support her no matter what happens to her, we still see her as the necromancer we know and love forever and ever until the end of time. As we grow old, we'll finally get to see her again, and the minecraft artist who is a big fan of Matsuri, Lily who made Astel fanart and graduated vtubers of all around.
