"Sometimes I think you don't respect me." He says with tired eyes, as if he's about to fall asleep.

"And that's because?"

"Because... you do these things, that I've told you upset me, yet you can't seem to cater to my needs just for once."

"That's because, general. Your needs include me staying by your side all the time and not talking to any other human being that isn't you. I think those, ah "demands" are fairly unreasonable." You lash out at him, speaking through gritted teeth.

He could roll his eyes in this moment.

"You're twisting my words," He hums again, seemingly uninterested. "The only thing I asked from you, ___. Is to stop batting your pretty little lashes at every man you encounter every time you want something." His gaze drifts up to you, quickly, sharp. "I do not want to be in the need to mark my territory like some kind of wild animal."

"Maybe I do that because I want you to mark your territory." You answer with a humorless chuckle.

"Mmm-hmm, whatever you say." He stands up, pushing his chair out of the way with a little more strength than he would've liked to. "If you excuse me, this conversation is boring me quite a lot, and I've got better things to do than deal with your... strange ways of toying with me."

You both sigh once you are out of each others sight.

He tosses and turns in bed, unable to sleep even when his eyes hurt and his lids feel heavier and heavier. He stares at the ceiling, the image of you evoking both anger and sadness into his mind.

Why can't you just behave?

The next couple of days are awkward, you don't cross that many words. Only polite greetings, nods of acknowledgement as a response to waves of a hand.

The third day, you're inside his bedroom. His large hands over your figure, he's so tall, you wonder just how is he able to fit through doors without hitting himself in the head most of the time. The thought is amusing enough to make you smile as he peppers kisses all over your neck.

"You're making me loose it, ___." He whispers, his tongue traveling from the nape of your neck to your jaw. "I want to... pin you down on the bed and fuck you until all you can do is think of me." He groans, hiding his face in your chest, his voice muffled as he speaks. He's always so blunt, not worrying about embarrassing words or lewd comments, you fluster at this. "I only restrain myself because I can't stand it when you nag me about bruises and hip pain."

"It wasn't my intention to bother you, general."

"I know," His eyes fix on yours again, half lidded. He traces the curve of your back, his fingers digging into the soft skin. "But maybe bruising you and leaving bite marks all over you is the only way to mark my territory over you, at least enough for you to behave." He smirks. "You're quite pliant once you get a good fuck from my behalf."

"Shut up," You push him away, covering your face with your hands. "I don't want to have to wear turtlenecks all year just because you're jealous."

"Then I guess there's another solution." You look at him through your fingers, his sword is laying next to him, he traces the blade with his calloused fingers. "Would you let me cut my name into your soft skin?"

Your eyes widen, and you try to take a step back. You shake your head in disagreement once your back hits the cold wall.

"No, what?" You ask in disbelief. His expression darkens, he gives out a tired smile.

"I just think there's no other way for you to love me."

"You're good at this." His voice is even, monotone, little to no variation. His eyes flicker between his canvas and your naked form, sitting pretty over the torn and washed out vanity sofa.

"Thank you," you whisper. "I try to be."

He smirks, almost amused. His eyes roam all over your figure, both sexual and analytical. His mind calculating light positions and colors to mix every time he catches a new detail. He goes over to his palette, his face turning into a frown as he realizes he has ran out of red.

"Stay still." He growls, standing up. The navy blue, button down shirt he's wearing is escaping his belt where it was previously neatly tucked. He crouches down next to you, and as best as he can without disturbing your position he exposes part of your thigh. "It'll be worse if you try to run... but you already know that." He says with disinterest, the edge of his blade gently tracing over your skin, cutting it open as if it was butter under a hot knife.

"Stings." You whimper, he can feel your thigh muscles contracting under his tough, his fingers digging deeper into your skin, ushering more blood to flow out of the open wound.

"I know." He murmurs, he collects the red droplets that run over your skin. He waits until the bleeding ceases, only a couple of minutes before your body stops the flow. Softly, he uses a damp cloth that is already stained with pink, washed down blood, to wipe the remains of it from your leg. He smiles, puts his palette where it's supposed to go and presses a soft kiss to your forehead. "You were good."

"I try to be." You answer him again, his gaze darkens.

"Stop saying that."

"Eh?"

"Just say thank you. If I praise you it comes from a genuine place, it's not an invitation for you to try harder." His tone is harsh, he has a problem modulating the intensity of his voice.

"Ah- I- I guess so. I'm sorry."

"Stop talking." He growls, kneeling again, he licks little droplets of blood that escaped your wound again. You don't even flinch when he does this, although you can feel your heart racing. He stands up, walks back to his painting spot, and continues to paint you in silence. For a long while there's only silence, Helen can't work if there's too many sounds, sometimes he lets you play some music, but he's angry now, or at least it seems like it. "When I praise you... it's genuine. I mean it, I wouldn't do it if it wasn't coming from my heart." He takes a deep breath. "It's... it's reciprocity. You praised my paintings because you genuinely liked them. I praise you because I genuinely love you."

He looks up at you, flustering when he sees tears rolling down your cheeks, doing your best to maintain the pose he asked you to keep.

"You mean it?" You ask, sniffling. "You won't leave me for not being good enough?"

"Eh? Ah!? O-Of course!" He stutters for a moment, not knowing what to do or say. "S-Stop crying! You'll mess up with the lighting over your face!"

You remember seeing a lot of red, a lot of orange. Fire and blood. It's primitive really, running from those two things feels like something your body was just made to do.

The dark haired man from earlier, the one who so kindly had wrapped his hand around your waist and interceded for you when some bad people tried to corner you now seemed so menacing, the sword on his hand painted crimson as he stalked closer to you. He didn't even need to run, he could catch up to you in a second, he just didn't have to let you get out of his sight.

"Stop running." He says loud enough for you to hear, and your pace falters for a second, trembling as you freeze in place. "If you run I'll make you regret it."

"But I'm scared." You say, meek and timid, on the verge of tears.

"I know." He smiles, a smile so soft it doesn't even reach his eyes, it would escape the naked eye. You'd have to search for it. "I like that. You look... you look cute." You whimper, clinging to your clothes as his hand places on your shoulder. You jump, trying to get away, but his grip becomes bruising. "I told you not to run."

"But- You're scaring me." You plead between sobs and hiccups. "Please."

He feels his heart stopping for a fraction of a second, his expression as cold as usual, he almost seems detached, like this is just an ordinary day for him. It's not, his heartbeat racing just a tiny bit, his face heating up at just how beautiful it sounds when you plead and beg. He can't help but smile a little wider this time.

"You’ll look so cute begging for help while I’m standing up above you." He says, lovingly, too lovingly for his taste. He just can't help it. He pushes you to the ground, his sword pointed at your neck, pressing against your throat.

"Start."
