once again , wilson waits to direct any criticism to his friend , the half - baked smile on his face fading the second lexus turns her back .

“ how are you the handsome one ? ” “ maybe she's got taste . ” “ for what ? rude , middle - aged men ? ” “ the hostess thought i was funny , remember ? ”

this conversation , wilson had decided , was going nowhere . so he merely rolls his eyes and scoffs , opting to fall back into silence and look over the menu . house , on the other hand , becomes uncharacteristically enthusiastic upon lexus' return .

“ lexus ! perfect timing . ” so house can go out of his way to remember a hot waitress' name , but not that of the family member of a patient .

wilson , on the other hand , awkwardly sits for a moment . it's easy to banter when they're alone , or with cuddy or the team around , but in front of strangers had always felt like a different story . thankfully , the change in subject offers a swift distraction .

“ uh , yeah , we're at ― ” “ being a doctor and being smart can be two different things . ” house interrupts , both exasperating his friend and amusing himself . “ but i assure you , i'm one of the smart ones . and don't worry about getting in trouble , i know hipaa law inside and out . ”

and he'll happily violate it or not as he pleases , is what wilson wants to say . and likely would have , if they were anywhere else .

“ i'll have the hot wings . and he'll get mild . ” “ house ― ” “ what ? are you gonna tell me that i'm wrong ? ”

for a split second , the younger looks like he's going to argue . or maybe like he's going to order his wings spicy , just out of spite . but instead , he leans back in his seat , defeated . “ yeah , i'll take the mild wings . thank you again , lexus . ”

" An old fashioned for the handsome one and and a espresso martini for you." She said to Wilson before she bounced off, pep in her step and leaving behind a scent of expensive perfume. Lexus put in the drink order giving them a minute to look over the menu. She checked in on her other tables before making her way over with two water glasses for the men. " If you want a recommendation, our wings are really good. I mean really all the food is but the wings are our specialty." She mused putting down the drinks. " So I have to know. Do you two work at the hospital?" She had noticed the ID badges.

" I knew you two had to be smart." She was speaking to both but she had her gaze on House, grazing her teeth over her bottom lip as she smirked in a teasing manner. " You have the older distinguished look about you. It's sexy." The young woman tore her gaze away for just a moment as one of her tables walked by to leave. Rule number two of being a raisins girl, always acknowledge the guests. " Bye guys. Thanks so much for coming in! Come back real soon and see me." She said, attention back on Wilson and House once the men left. " I'm doing so bad at my job tonight I'm sorry. I'm talking your ear off! My mouth always gets me in trouble." A cheeky grin came at that. " So what can I get you two?"

“ always been a huge fan of sick people . ” sarcasm laces his answer , notable only from the eyebrow raise and slightly more blunt delivery . “ from a distance , at least . get too close , they might sneeze on you . ”

he could practically hear cuddy and wilson chastising him . this is supposed to be good for you . just be honest . christ , he could roll his eyes at the thoughts .

after a moment of silence , house sighs , dropping his gaze to the cane handle in his hands . “ . . . i like puzzles . ” his tone hardly changes much ; just a little bit quieter , more like he's thinking out loud rather than providing a proper answer . “ sick people are puzzles . ”

“ . . . right . withdrawals suck . believe me , i'm well aware . ” as if for emphasis , he drops the file in his hand onto the overbed table , swapping it for the bottle of vicodin in his jacket pocket . one pill falls into his palm , and it's tossed back like candy . “ don't worry , they're prescription . ”

his gaze wanders when fp asks about his suggested prescription . house acts like it is , but it's never easy , giving patients bad news . it's why he always makes his team do it .

“ you came all the way out here from ― ” he leans a little to glance again at the file , “ geez , riverdale ? ― for the free clinic . and you asked for the cheapest pain meds we can offer . implies you don't have insurance , can't afford the medical bills . fortunately , we can accommodate that .

“ . . . unfortunately , the requested prescription shouldn't be mixed with alcohol . there's an inactive ingredient that could cause some pretty nasty side effects if you mix it with booze . ” the hand leaned on his cane adjusts . and with a sigh , house brings his eyes back to fp . “ i can still give it to you . the tox screen shows it's been long enough since your last drink . if you stay here , i can have my team make sure your detox isn't terrible . ” they're pretty good at that . “ and we can . . . work out the medical bills later . ”

FP sighed at the mention of his liver. " I drink. I have to. I don't want the withdrawals." He was already itching for a drink, getting just a little shaky since he hadn't had anything in several hours. He wasn't even concerned about what had happened, he just wanted to get back to the Wyrm.

" It was still a bar fight gone wrong by the way." It wasn't. It was a fight over a drug trade. The serpents were the suppliers and traders most prevalent. " But whatever. What am I taking for my liver and how often?"

as if it's the most casual situation he could possibly be in , house merely reaches for a mug and the coffee pot . “ don't worry , i tell wilson the same thing . it keeps him on his toes . ” there's a pause , to focus on pouring his coffee . it's nearly midday , sure , but still feels too early . not to mention his hands are a little shaky ― he hadn't had his morning vicodin yet . “ funny enough , his ex - wife thought i really did hate him . ironic , isn't it ? ”

“ yep . it's date night . ” the statement is followed by a sarcastic ( and slightly shit - eating ) grin , proof it's a joke . the dark - haired man standing just to house's left rolls his eyes , obviously annoyed by the comment , but merely follows in silence , waiting until they're seated to press .

“ a date night ? really , house ? ” “ what ? she laughed , she thought it was funny . ” “ they get . . . they get paid to act like that . why are we here ? ” “ i hear their hot sauce is phenomenal . ”

house's attention almost immediately turns to the waitress as she steps into range , an almost unnatural smile crossing his lips . “ great ! we're here to un - bore you . ” blue eyes very quickly wander down the girl's neck to her chest , though they move back to her face just as fast . “ nope ! first time here . make me an old fashioned . and my friend here will have the fruitiest drink on the menu . ”

“ pay him no mind . he likes being an ass . ” wilson , on contrast , looks rather sincere . oh this poor , poor man . “ i'll try an espresso martini , uh . . . ” he reluctantly flicks his gaze to her chest , and he forces to keep his smile up when he realizes , no name tags . good lord . “ lexus , right ? thank you . ”

" Welcome to Raisins! Two of you? Right this way." The young Brunette led the men to a table by the bar and it took no time for Lexus to show up. " Thank god you two came in. I was getting bored." She said, out of habit in a flirty tone as she laid down napkins. " I'm Lexus. I'll be your Raisins girl." She noticed House first and immediately started paying attention. " What can I get you to drink? Mercedes is on bar tonight and she makes the best drinks." She smiled at Wilson and twirled a long red strand of hair around her finger. " Have you two been here before?" She asked. She sported barely there shorts and a low cut cropped white tank. She knew she looked good and she wasn't shy about it. Nor was she shy about being into older men so she brushed her hand over House's arm and winked. " Okay so let me go put these drink orders in and I'll be right back. Don't miss me too much!"

“ well , if you wanted the doctor to give you pain meds and send you on your way , you should've gone to the clinic . ” that is , of course , completely ignoring the fact that his patient had initially been seen there to begin with . “ frankly , i don't really care if you talk to the cops or not . doctor - patient confidentiality . i'm sure you know what that means . ”

he limps paces closer bedside , flipping through the patient records . “ came to treat a gunshot wound , stayed with underlying symptoms of an unhealthy liver . ” with a pause , house glances up over his clipboard , nose still aimed at the papers . “ now , that just sounds like a bar fight gone wrong , doesn't it ? ”

FP was less than thrilled to be in the hospital but it was needed. Not only had he gotten into a fight and wound up being shot but his liver was also not in good shape thanks to all the drinking. He lazily watched the game until his doctor came in. " I'm hoping you're here to tell me I can get pain meds and leave." He said, sitting up in the bed. " I already told the cops I wasn't saying shit by the way so don't try and ask."
