I am not over the ramifications of aging up Moiraine and Siuan. The idea that they are a couple who were together for decades before the prophecy forced them into the world’s most challenging long distance relationship really does make sense. They maintain a commitment to each other even with little hope of being together in this life because they know each other so intimately and completely. If they’re in their 80s, that means they probably spent from the time they were teenagers to the time they were in their 60s together.

Not just in love from afar but navigating an actual day to day life together. Two women from such different cultures and classes and families, navigating those differences, loving each other for who they are and where they come from and the life they’ve chosen. Think of the actual real difficult conversations to learn each other, to understand each other, to build a life together.

It just makes it so much more poignant. They aren’t two people who fell in love as children then dreamed of a life together but never had it. They are two people who were essentially married for fifty years before the prophecy. They knew each other in and out when they parted. The pufferfish temper. Who snores. Who steals the blankets. Insecurities. And fears. And all the fights. The stupid fights. But also the big ones. The ones where you say hurtful things but work through it together. And decades of making up after. Decades of deciding against having a fight anyway. Just an “ok pufferfish” and a laugh. Because why fight if they can skip to the makeup sex?

Fifty years is ample time to see the bad in a partner. The insecurities that you soothe at first but later get so tired of. Fifty years is enough for people to grow apart, for passion to fade. Enough for a partner to see all of you, including your very worst, your most cruel, your most afraid, your most defensive. But seeing all that, Moiraine and Siuan still loved each other so much that they never gave a second thought to whether they would stay together even when physically apart.

Fifty years together and they still wanted each day together so desperately that it breaks their hearts to be apart. That there was never a question of whether they would still return to each other in this life if given the opportunity. This Moiraine and Siuan aren’t dreaming of being together in their next lives because they never had this one. They are dreaming of it because they had this life together, and the best thing they could possibly imagine is more time. More time together. In this life or in the next. Any way they can be together. Stolen moments or entire lifetimes. Because they know each other so completely, and it only makes them love each other more.

Decades apart now, and they still tease and laugh and make each other smile. Decades with hardships and separation, and they are still playful and tender and come to each other only with love and devotion. Decades apart and still they know each other completely, fall back perfectly in sync in an instant. That is an intimacy that grew from the years they spent together, from the relationship they built, the love of an entire lifetime.

Makes me hopeful they won't kill La'an off in the s3 premiere. I've also read that Christina has pitched ideas for s3 which makes it sound like La'an will stick around for this season. Of course they could pull a Hemmer and write her out of the show anytime, but I hope that won't happen. The show is set years before TOS, there's no need to rush to the end yet.

Thinking of potential storylines, I think it would also be a lot of fun if there was an episode in s3 featuring Betazed with the crew attending one of those legendary traditional wedding ceremonies. I googled a bit and found that Betazoids were mentioned in a DISCO novel, so timeline-wise it would be possible to have them show up in the show.

It would be hilariously awkward to watch the crew try to navigate delicate diplomacy, especially when someone as flamboyant as Lwaxana or the 3 Betazoid ladies from LWD would be there turning the wedding upsidedown. The crew would draw straws to decide who would attend the ceremony.

Imo Pike would be mostly chill about the lack of clothes because he's very comfortable in his skin, but he might also get close to fainting once he sees Una out of her uniform. M'Benga doesn't seem to have a problem with public nudity due to all the public baths during his battle days. Erica and Christine would definitely seek out the bar first.

And La'an and Spock would feel absolutely awkward and La'an would complain how she can't carry a phaser. They would try to hide behind bushes or cover themselves discreetly with the first objects they can find, like empty bowls and such. They would try to be professional and not sneak a peek at each other and fail miserably doing so. And then some Betazoid would blurt out their attraction for each other during the wedding speech... there might also be a chocolate fountain involved...

And now I realize this idea would probably work better as fanfiction because it's not very PG.

It confuses me how normalized it is to be so anti human. The fact that two countries voted no to food being a human right. The fact so many people are against universal healthcare. The fact that it’s normal to believe some people don’t deserve housing because they’re poor, addicts, mentally ill, or any combination of the above. I find it so hard to comprehend that humans who have experienced hunger, thirst, cold, and illness would wish these things upon others, or at the very least not care. It frustrates me beyond belief.

These are the exact values we’re taught as children, to believe all humans are equal in worth and needs, and yet at some point you’re expected to grow out of that illusion. You’re expected to accept that this is what life’s like, that the world is unfair, and attempting to fix it makes you weak and childish.

It’s ladies night at the gay bar Eddie works at which means no men allowed, which means, ‘how the hell did this dork in a polo make it pass the bouncer and how the hell has no one complained about him yet?’

Eddie watches the admittedly gorgeous guy approach the bar and ask for a drink. Eddie responds with, “How did you get past Frank?”

“The bouncer?” Pretty boy asks. “Oh, I asked if I could come in.”

“You asked?”

“Yeah?”

“And he let you?”

“Yeahhh?”

“None of these girls are going to go for you,” Eddie tells him in case he somehow missed that this was the queerest bar in town. “They’re lesbians. They like women.”

“I know!” The guy - Steve, Eddie will find out later - smiles, bright and big. “Isn’t that great?!”

Something in Eddie curdles with disgust because, “Nice try, buddy. You’re not going to ‘turn’ a lesbian.”

“Hope not,” Steve laughs and then pulls a stack of Polaroids out of his pocket. “Look at this.”

He holds one out to Eddie, showing him the image of a girl looking done-as-shit with the camera in her face. There’s a phone number written at the bottom.

“This is Robin," Steve says fondly. “Shes my best friend, and a lesbian, and the best person I’ve ever met, and I love her…she deserves a girlfriend so I’m-“

“Advertising her?”

“Helping get her a date,” Steve finishes. “This will make a great story at their wedding.”

“That’s insane…and strangely endearing.”

“Yeah, I’m like that,” Steve says, sliding over a Polaroid of Robin giving the camera the bird. “That’s my phone number too. Just so you know.”
