Daily reminder: Editing Rachel's face in thumbails to make her look " uglier ", making AI clickbait videos and thumbnails and basically making things up so you have a excuse to hate on her is NOT cool or right, if you forgot about that.

not to bring tiktok drama on tumblr but like every time a ‘scandal’ comes out with one of these ‘production companies’ that make fan films i always hope we’re finally gonna discuss how they professionalize something that should be an hobbyist endeavor… and yet every single time i’m disappointed.
#like I know we’ve been talking about it here on tumblr and i remember seeing like one or two videos on tt about it#but other than that creators really don’t seem to be engaging critically with the impact that the very nature of what they’re doing has#and look i truly do love the art that some of the people involved in the project make#like arone is truly one of the most talented cosplayers i know#ethan is an amazing actor and I’ve followed him since before he was even in the marauders#dorian is a great writer and idk the others as well but I’m sure they are all great artists#((naming the just cause i feel like being vague would be worse in this case))#and i do believe they engaged with the project with the best of intentions#without knowing or trying to afford grace on past controversy#and it truly is a horrible predicament to have your work be tainted like that for something you had no control over#but like i do think we should be questioning the very idea of how this fanfilms have been made is inherently a problem#like fanfilms are essentially fanfiction on camera#so as long as a few cosplayers want to get together with their iphones write a script and shoot at the local park I don’t have a problem#but if you are putting in place a product that somehow requires you to fundraise consistently for two years then I have a problem with it#ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE SELLING THE SCRIPT TO DO SO#cause even if that script hadn’t been ai generated#that script is fanfiction and you do. not. sell. fanfiction.#seriously like… do we need to go over our abc again?#like fanart and cosplayers are a bit different in the sense that people sell fanart/do commissions and they can be professional cosplayers#but for any other fanmade project that requires you to put pen to paper (or keyboard to chatgpt ig)#you need to be engaging with several ethical questions regarding any exchange of money#and personally i don’t think that there’s been engagement with those ethical reflections#and this isn’t about any of the people involved and not even about mischief productions specifically#it’s about a wider issue in how we have been collectively normalizing a way of doing things that should not be normal#and like yes star using ai and being overall not good is bad but like can we talk about EVERYTHING ELSE please

I really think we need to make it illegal for people to say "the game is too easy" in a videogame review/critique
#was watching a video reviewing all the pikmin games#stopped taking this guy seriously when he critiziced pikmin 3 for being quote 'too god shit baby easy'#and then i stopped watching when he used dark souls as a comparison lol#like bruh if you're going to criticize an aspect of a game by comparing it to other at least use a game that's on the same genre#or demographic. you cannot compare a children's strategy game to DARK SOULS#also the reason why pikmin 3 (and to a certain extent 4) feel easy is because he's already played the previous games#which are much harder. so he is already familiar with how the games and mechanics work#but like. the thing is. pikmin 3 came out MORE THAN A DECADE after the first two#so it's target demographic was newer and younger players. who wouldn't be familiar with the game or it's mechanics#so for them it would be harder. because adapting to the style of gameplay is objectively hard#HE ACKNOWLEDGED THIS IN THE FUCKING VIDEO TOO#also the reason why the first two games are so hard to begin with is because it was the early 2000 and the ai and mechanics#just couldn't be as refined as they wanted to#honestly every pikming game is easy once you get the hang of it and it's engine#like when playing the first game i got to a point where the hardest area didn't even seem that hard because i was familiar with the layout#and knew the best strategies to deal with the hazards in them#like they could've criticized stuff like how short the main campaign is. how its too linear compared to the rest of the series#or if they want to talk about difficulty they could talk about how unbalanced rock and winged pikmin are#to the point that they make every other type unnecessary#sorry for the long tags. i just hate when people use 'it's too easy' as a legitimate arguing point

the thing i hate about recent video game french dubs is the complete lack of emotion in dialogues. they're so monotonous that, most of the time, it just sounds like the actors are reading the script out loud, with very few effort put into it.
here's an example from south of midnight:
(as i am proofreading this i realize it's not that bad, but there still are some points to be made 🧐)
the english dub has an eye on details, down to even the breathing of the characters. such as the little snort after "your absentee grandmother." you can really hear their emotions in the tone laurent asks his questions with, or when hazel answers. "dunno whatchu talkin' 'bout" really feels like he's brushing off the inquiry. overall, this is a great display of the VAs' work.
on the other hand, the french dub feels plain. everything from the dull way laurent says "j'sais pas d'quoi tu parles" to hazel not even sounding like she's insisting to get answers doesn't help getting in the mood at all. the whole scene seems more of a simple discussion than a quiet confrontation.
i understand voice acting can sometimes be challenging. and that's totally fine. this kind of situation is more bothersome when the original game is french. it SHOULD be designed to fit dialogues in that language with little to no need to adapt them.
that is the case with clair obscur: expédition 33. oh my days. just take the opening scene with maëlle and gustave on the roof; some of maëlle's lines sound rushed and unnatural. i haven't gotten far in the game though, so i won't talk about it.
i also think games now try to be as polite as possible in their french translations. that plays a lot too. (i'm talking about the writing of dialogues here, not the way VAs deliver them.)
-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
tldr: i'm not a fan of french dubs in games because they feel lazy and boring.
#forgive errors in my english#blabbering#when i say games try to be more polite i mean that pre-2010 games didn't hesitate to make funny jokes in their translations#for example uhhhh let's take brutal legend (2009) and like a dragon infinite wealth (2024)#very different games. i know. but dialogue-wise they both use a certain quantity of cuss words and slang.#now the brutal legend french translation is genuinely hilarious. the VAs don't take themselves too seriously#and french slang is perfectly incorporated into dialogues and such#in a way it doesn't feel out of place or weird.#infinite wealth however#the translation is so much more lazy with stuff that is obviously too literally translated from english#same as for south of midnight some translations will NOT help you get in the mood of the scene#which is a shame because the voice acting will be amazing#but the subtitles will not do it justice#though i have noticed a rise in the use of ai in translation works... and I think they used it for infinite wealth :/#that's the only explanation#it is extremely revolting. of course the translation is going to be godawful if there's not a trained translator crafting it!#<- going back to infinite wealth having jokes that are literally translated from english:#at some point they translated “cancelled” (as in someone getting cancelled) as “annulé” which doesn't mean the same thing AT ALL#so it's either they had no clue what getting cancelled means orrr... it is merely poorly translated 😪#woah!#that's a pretty lenghty post#it won't get any notes because I have no clue what to tag it as and people dislike long rant posts but I needed to get this out my system#so uhhh if you've read this far hi! how are you!#i went to buy ice cream with my brother today it was great#hashtag many people are gonna disagree with me about french dubs#south of midnight#yeah i lied im gonna slap some tags on this bad boy#jeu vidéo#video games#clair obscur

There is one comment that I read which annoyed me and I tried to let go without mentioning it but, you know what? The poster didn't think of keeping their thoughts to themselves about it, and it's the second time this exact thing is happening in relation to one of my shows, so what the hell.
Because of the anti-AI sentiment and discourse, some of which is justified and some completely unhinged (example: if you've ever bullied disabled people online for using it to make their life easier, please rethink your life choices and touch some grass), I'd think that people would be more careful who they're accusing of using AI in art. Turns out, people are not careful.
I've read quite a few "this must have been made with AI" false accusations lately but I did not expect someone to suggest that they used AI on Hudson and Rex. On footage that has already been filmed years ago, no less, and re-used in the new intro. Most of these scenes, including footage that had been used for a S4 promo, are not new. I assume that the use of the footage from S4 is what's confusing here, along with some not-so-smooth transitions and slow motion, which is something I found jarring as well. As a fan of the show, I don't need to know the technology to say that this wasn't due to AI. But as a person who has always tried to keep up with technological advancements and understands some of the AI technology, and as an amateur (non-AI) video editor, I can say that there was no AI use anywhere on that intro.
To people who have no idea what is or isn't AI or don't know much about film/tv/video making: Please don't make accusations like that. It's that simple. And think before you make a post. Posting an opinion presented as fact on a social medium, whether you realize it or not, is like saying something out loud in a crowded (or less crowded but certainly not empty) space. Someone is bound to see it sooner or later. And in a small fandom, it's actually more likely for someone to see it, even though the number of eyeballs is likely to be small, because content is scarce and your post will not "disappear" amongst an influx of other posts.

Really sad bc my sister uses Chat GPT for her job as a teacher.
She said her employer has her and other teachers use it to “help” them come up with assignments(?) but she had suggested that I also use it, outside of her job environment, when I was trying to think of how to respond to an email, and she was depressingly defensive of it when I started saying why I won’t use it and why it’s not any good 😭
To be fair, though, I don’t think I had brought up the best reasons of why Chat GPT sucks but she did not seem to be wanting to have an actual discussion about it and moved on so I wasn’t able to say much else anyway.

i am once again getting excited over stuff that isn’t even confirmed lmao but what if hypdream has a similar story format to arb s1 where it’s split into six separate stories centred around the divisions where the final boss of each story is the evil version of the division so you have to strategise how to defeat the divisions with the characters you have unlocked like what if i have to beat bat with bat would evil kuukou have priority and his ability might go off before i can seal evil kuukou’s myself idk how jyushi’s ability works but can i negate the damage he supposedly can heal by reflecting his attack phase back at him with hitoya’s would the three of their attack stats combined be enough to beat them if evil kuukou’s ability can be used more than once—

its always annoying when you reblog something that on its own is normal and understandable, but then someone reblogs it from you and you know they're doing so for reasons which you directly oppose and that are a misinterpretation of the sentiment behind (why you reblogged) the post

My hot take is that if regulators taxed the shit out of ai companies to offset the amount of water and energy they're using it would fix a lot of problems
