Steve is unknowingly popular in teacher spaces online despite not having social media because his students keep posting videos of him on Tiktok.
Every now and again, a video will break containment and reach a wider audience - like the time one of his students used ‘girl math’ to justify their wrong answer and Steve responded with an exhausted ‘math is non-binary’ - but it’s always a flash-in-the-pan kinda thing. The lasting power isn’t there.
Or well, it wasn’t before famed rockstar Eddie Munson started randomly quoting some of the dorky shit ‘Teacher Steve’ says in those videos.
Someone puts together a compilation of Eddie quoting videos that have less than one hundred views. Now Eddie has to admit that he’s kinda obsessed with the guy and suddenly Steve is famous everywhere online (still doesn’t know about it though).
Things may have died down but then one of his students post a video of them asking Steve if he knows Eddie, and Steve is just like, “Munson? Eddie Munson from high school?”
They’re married btw.

i’ve been thinking about dex’s story in born again.
Tumblr media
how, in universe, the world saw dex after the events of josies, and after his trial. how quick everyone was to believe he just snapped and went on a revenge fueled rampage at josies. and the sad thing is, that makes sense in the worst possible way. because the world is always going to be more comfortable writing someone like dex off as just another mentally ill guy who lost control. that’s the story people are used to. it’s easier, simpler, and it doesn’t require any deep thought or empathy. it doesn’t ask them to look at who failed him, who used him, who broke him down. it doesn’t ask them to understand the difference between someone being dangerous and someone being made into a weapon. and most people just don’t care enough to look closer.
and what gets me is how many people refuse to hold both truths about dex at the same time. that he’s a victim and a perpetrator. that he did horrific things and was still deeply, painfully used. i hate how often people online will reduce it to “oh you just like him because he’s hot” when you try to talk about him with nuance. like no. dex is complex. he’s the wound and the knife. he is someone who’s suffered, been manipulated, abandoned, used like a tool, but that doesn’t erase what he’s done. it doesn’t mean people weren’t hurt, or that his violence didn’t matter. you can see his pain and still hold him accountable. you can understand where it came from and still be horrified by the outcome. none of that is contradictory. it’s just real. he’s a character full of contradictions, and that’s part of what makes him so compelling. reducing him to one thing, victim, villain, psycho, it just flattens him into a version of himself that isn’t true.
and even in the show, it’s like no one really wants to see the whole truth of who dex is. it’s easier for them to believe “crazy guy goes violent” than to admit that someone vulnerable was groomed and turned into a weapon by someone with more power. for example in episode 8 where matt slams dex’s head into the table, and when the guard walks in, matt lies and says dex did it to himself. and the guard doesn’t even hesitate to believe it. he just immediately goes, “you crazy asshole.” he doesn’t even question it. because that’s already the version of dex they’ve decided is true. they don’t need proof, they don’t need context. they hear “he hurt himself” and go “of course he did.” and that’s what’s so brutal about it. even matt bought into that narrative at first. even though he knew dex had worked for fisk after the events of season three. and he listened to dex’s tapes. he believed that dex was a man who woke up one day on impulse and decided to kill foggy eight years after the events of season three. because he believed dex to be a violent and disturbed psychopath. because that’s the story society already believes. many people believe that mentally ill people are inherently dangerous. quiet violence is scarier than loud chaos. so people don’t ask questions. they just assume the worst. so dex being quiet and restrained in his rage in the trial scene just confirmed what they already thought about him. and that kind of widespread erasure makes dex’s story even more tragic. not just what happened to him, but how no one really sees it. not fully.
and that invisibility messes with him too. dex already struggles with identity. he barely knows who he is when no one’s giving him a script to follow. so when the whole world reduces him to nothing but a monster, a rampage shooter, it probably confirms the worst things he already fears about himself. even if he knows deep down it’s not the whole truth, it gets in his head. like maybe they’re right. maybe he really is just broken and dangerous and beyond saving. that he is an animal and nothing more. and that’s what hurts him. because he tried. he tried to be good. he tried to follow the rules. for so many years because he genuinely wanted to be a better version of himself. he tried to be useful, to matter, to be someone. and in the end, none of it mattered. no one remembers that he tried. they only see the end result. they only see the damage.
and that weight, the failure, the guilt, the grief of never being seen clearly, that’s something he has to carry alone. it’s what makes his story so heavy to sit with. and none of this is to say that dex isn’t still responsible for what he’s done. evidently he knew what he was doing. even if he was manipulated into it. he made choices, and those choices hurt people. he’s not innocent. he’s not good. he’s a villain. that’s who he is, that’s who he’s becoming, and he’s also someone with borderline personality disorder. someone who was manipulated, used, pushed to the edge, and weaponized. those things can all exist at once. he’s not either a tragic victim or an evil monster. he’s both. and when people act like empathizing with him or understanding where he came from is the same as excusing what he did, it’s just dishonest. like no one’s out here saying “my poor baby” and pretending he didn’t kill people. it’s just acknowledging that there’s more to him than what most are willing to see. that doesn’t absolve him. it just complicates him. and if that makes people uncomfortable, maybe they should ask why it’s so much easier to believe someone like dex is just a psycho killer than to accept that he’s human. flawed, dangerous, and human.
if people are saying that about comic bullseye, then yeah, it makes sense. that version of him is literally written to be an unstable psychopath who kills people for fun. he’s meant to be scary and empty and cruel, and that’s it. that’s what makes his character so fun to read. the needless violence, the grin on his face while he commits it. but dex isn’t only that. dex is bullseye, but he’s a version with so much more nuance and humanity. he is capable of everything that comic bullseye is capable of. but he has more contradictions, more depth. he’s not just evil for the sake of it. he’s broken and angry and used and spiraling, and all of that is still his responsibility, but it’s layered. he’s not just a killer. he’s a person. comic bullseye is the foundation, but dex was built on top of that. same character, same legacy, just finally given complexity. he has all the traits of his comic self, but there’s pain behind it now. there’s grief, there’s loneliness, there’s a desperate want to be seen and loved. he’s bullseye in every way, but now he’s also human and real.

Saw a post about the juxtaposition between “disaster boy™️” Richard Grayson and “just a little guy™️” Jason Todd while in “I’m a new mom and I don’t know what I’m doing™️” Brucie’s care and had to add to the conversation
The Richard parenting experience
Bruce: What a nice quiet evening.
Somewhere in the manor: *boom* *crash* *the distinct sound of something very expensive breaking*
Bruce, running full tilt to the source of the noise thinking the manner has been compromised: Is everything okay?!? What’s going-
Robin!Dick, on the floor next to a broken chandelier, a smashed heirloom and a shattered wardrobe: uhhh…Oops?
The Jason parenting experience
Bruce: what a nice quiet evening… too quiet.
Bruce sprints to where his son was last: Jason?
Robin!jason: yes?
Bruce: *oh he’s still there!* what are you doing?
Robin!jason: …reading
Bruce: …oh
Robin!jason: that’s allowed right?
Bruce: yes that’s fine.

Imagine looking at a character whose entire premise is that in every stage of his life, he's made every version of himself into someone that inspires people to such a degree that EVERY SINGLE VERSION OF HIM has people wanting to literally follow in his footsteps in some way or another.....
And coming to the conclusion that like.....the most important things about him are the sum of all his trappings. His entirely homemade developed from scratch could not exist if not for what he already was and brought with him BEFORE crafting this newest version of himself trappings, with his greatest trait throughout all of it being his adaptability; his ability and willingness to roll with the punches and not try to simply weather any opposition or changes to his life but instead reshape himself as needed to better fit INTO whatever new shape his life and the world around him takes. All while managing to carry the most innate, fundamental and necessary aspects of himself from one version to the next. Thus every single version of himself is different but simultaneously every single version of himself is also undeniably the same person.
The strength of this character, to me, will always be that he can be so many versions of himself, he can become so many things, all without ever actually losing or discarding any of the aspects of himself he considers most essential, the things he's not willing to lose or give up just to keep going. Finding that road not taken by most, usually because most never even think to look for it as an option. But one that he's always able to find because the one trick he's mastered in his tumultuous life is threading that needle of not just digging in his heels in an unproductive way but rather being selective about when and where he makes a stand and decides "this is not a thing I'm willing to compromise about" but here are places and ways I can and will change and evolve and adapt in order to make it possible for me to hold onto these parts and keep them as they are.
And that's why its always so mind-boggling to me that so many writers can't seem to think of anything else to do with Dick Grayson other than invent some new reason for him to just....not be that person, or to like just take the character whose most basic fundamental trait he's NOT about to compromise on is willingly giving up his spot in the driver's seat of his own life.....and make him just a passenger in his own life and stories.
Dick Grayson at age nine....at age nineteen...at age twenty nine....the one core thread running through all versions of him is the only way he's standing back and letting you call the shots for him or putting him on the sidelines in some way is over his dead body.
HOW he goes about that, what that looks like, who he becomes and what aspects of himself he plays up at some times and what traits he lets fall by the wayside at other times when they offer less in service to his primary goal here....that changes constantly. He changes constantly.
But those changes are almost always (or at least they used to be/should be IN MY OPINION) made with the intention of keeping certain things about him or his life as consistent as possible.
That's the duality of Dick Grayson that I'm here for. The inherent contradiction of him that COULD allow for endless conflict and breaking new narrative ground in all sorts of ways if mined properly:
His eternal willingness to compromise....but only ever in pursuit of doubling down on the ways he's not willing to compromise.
Forever walking that tightrope in ways that only a kid born and raised in a circus could ever hope to.
#see also: my grinding teeth when people disparage his circus origins#like the only thing its good for is colorful backstory and explaining his acrobatics#THERES. SO. MUCH. THERE.#theres so much EVERYWHERE in every aspect of his backstory and his preexisting comics and yet over and over we get#....what if we just ignored all that and did what the fuck ever as though this character has nothing integral to him or fundamental to say#to be fair my gripes with Taylor are not exactly interchangeable with my gripes with the previous runs#but I lump him in as an extension of them because while evocative of different SIDES of my ennui with these takes on Dick.....#the thing about Taylor's stuff to me (or the parts I read at least) is that its generic as hell while only retaining superficial elements#of Dick's character and stories in order to point to them and say see these are definitely about Dick Grayson. like....only in very surface#level ways. underneath that theyre basically generic superhero adventures that could easily be retooled to be about a pretty sizable number#of other characters. tbh with the whole alfred inheritance thing it honestly felt from the get go#that Taylor was more interested in writing a kinder gentler Batman like a Bruce from one of the animated shows like#The Brave and the Bold who gets along better with everyone else. even the way the Brave and the Bold largely exists to use Batman's#popularity as a star vehicle to platform his co-superhero for the episode lends itself to Taylor's approach in his NW run#with the central figure - only nominally DG imo - basically existing as a platform allowing for the drafting of any other character he want#to write in any given arc or story in a similar way to how Bruce is utilized in Brave and the Bold#anyway. idk idk. my issues with Taylor are not the same as the others exactly but also they are and also I just plain dont like the guy#so I complain about him at any given opportunity even when its not technically as accurate or relevant as it possibly could be#I Am Flawed. its fine though dont worry about it. its called being nuanced

I’m just gonna leave this here.
#bishop mariann edgar budde#The people saying that the Bishop is somehow not Christian are also profoundly misunderstanding the things Jesus taught us#It would have been easy to not say anything. She could have given a standard sermon and nobody would have blinked twice.#Nobody would be declaring their hate for her nobody would be ranting and raving at her.#She wouldn’t be being criticized by dozens of powerful and consistently nasty people#But she chose to do something brave. She chose to implore mercy. She chose to speak for people who didn’t have her platform.#She chose to stand up for her neighbors. She chose not to let politics warp God’s message.#She chose not to ignore suffering for her own comfort. She chose to be brave. She chose to do something Jesus would be proud of.#She chose the Christian thing to do.#insignificant as it may be I can’t stress enough how easily she could have just not said anything. She could have just not acknowledged the#Reality of what the men in front of her were planning to do. Most preachers wouldn’t. But she did.#Small things like that won’t make a sweeping difference. Her words won’t change things politically. We all know that. But she said them.#She said them because that’s what God would want her to do.#It is a reminder and an example: Implore mercy. Be brave. Be kind. Love your neighbor. Follow Jesus and his teachingsu#I don’t know anything else about her but I’m going to remember that. Kudos to her.#I really don’t know how you as a Christian can see someone implore mercy and be offended. I just don’t get it.

So... quick update on the Eurovision situation
The EBU decided that Israel can compete despite their country being under an active Genocide investigation by the ICJ. Their delegation have gone on to antagonise other contestants by filming them for their social media without permission and refusing to remove it when asked, harass journalists who have questioned if their inclusion is appropriate, and their commentators have made horrendous comments about the Irish contestant... all without sanction.
Meanwhile the Dutch contestant got into an undisclosed 'incident' with a female member of the production crew and they've referred it to the police and flat out disqualified him from the contest with less than 12 hours notice...
Which seems like a tremendous act of double standards at an event that is already marred by serious controversy. Obviously the second is not acceptable, but very difficult to understand how the first somehow... is?

I’ve been strongly considering unfollowing the bat fam tag solely because I’m getting tired of fanon characterizations getting more and more ridiculous in its little echo chamber. Like, I don’t mind it really. It’s still funny in its own little vacuum, so I won’t block it…. But still.

Rhaena was cruel to Androw Farman, especially after Elissa stole the eggs and ran away, sure. But I think it’s really obtuse to take Androw Farman’s dying revenge speech at face value. Like look at some of the things he says!
“I could have made laws and been wise and given you council.” Except he was not wise; he could not read either.
“I could have been a warrior.” When he had no skill at sword or axe.
“I could have killed your enemies as easily as I did your friends.” Forget the fact that Rhaena has a dragon… what enemies? What enemies were there for Androw to kill?
Anyway, my point is none of these things are Rhaena’s fault, it’s not her fault that Androw isn’t wise or a great warrior; it’s not on her that he couldn’t do these things. These are his own issues and the book tells us he makes no effort to correct them. I don’t think not being able to read is a moral failing; but if he wants to be wise you’d think he would enlist someone to read for him or to teach him. If he wanted to be a great warrior, you’d think he’d train with the other warriors himself rather than never doing anything. If he wanted to be the lord of dragonstone, you’d think he’d take his horse outside the castle gates and get to know the land.

Alright. I want you all made perfectly aware that I have completely cut support for Wilbur soot and any associated projects. I find his "apology" to be disingenuous and trashy damage control, and it undermines whatever desire he has to improve, however genuine that is.
I 100% support Shelby and any victim of such disgusting behaviour, i commend them for their courage, and I wish them nothing but prosperity, support, and happiness. I will always value their peace over whatever art he made. I'll find other fucking art.

Old news by now, but I forgot to ever comment on this and I remembered I wanted to, since it's about me.
I think it's funny that following someone and reading their posts can be referred to as "creepy" simply because I was critical of them.
I also made it pretty clear how exactly their "inquiry of even a small thing" was harmful, and it's wild to justify disrespecting creators because they are old enough not to cry about it. but whatever, that's not what this post is about.
This post is about who I am. Hilariously, they claim to have received intelligence from the tumblr spy network that this is a new blog. Good job, Sherlock. You've cracked that case. But I will defend my honor to the point that I don't care enough about them specifically to go through the effort of creating new blogs just for them.
Contrary to their belief, they are not the "threat" they called themselves 💀. They are just one of the louder tar pits on this site who have shitty opinions, and I made this blog recently for the purpose of DA Fandom content, meta posts and the court of my own personal public opinion for those tar pits. All of them.
So, for the spies that don't exist, and the record:
Hello, my name is Jack. This is a side blog because my main is drama-free and my followers have come to expect that from my content. I don't want to disrupt their peace with my inexhaustible drive to let people know how terrible their opinions are.
So, if you just want peace in your life, this isn't the Fandom blog for you. But if you want to see pretty edits, beautiful art, meaningful meta, and reasonable takes on discourse for once in this godforsaken place, then I'm your man.

A Tweet and reply posted by Adeel Alam (also known as WWE's Mustafa Ali) to Twitter on November ninth, 2023, reading: "I’m being advised not speak about Palestine as it will hurt future financial opportunities & that I have a family to feed. As a father, how can I do that knowing there are fathers right now digging their dead children out from rubble? I chose people over profit. #CeasefireForGaza"
and: "My sincere hope is that we all see that innocent lives are being destroyed. Hate will continue and will be passed down. The call for peace has to be louder than the violence."

over the past few years ive been trying to distance myself more from celebrities and cast members of my fave shows, but i have to admit that i genuinely love evan williams.
he is constantly outspoken about so many important issues, whether it's social issues, racism/discrimination, and now even genocide.
it's such a stark contrast to how the versailles family is.
whilst people were defending alex for all his shit about black lives matter and speaking up about anti-blackness/racism, evan was there already talking about it.
whilst the versailles family page were sharing zionist propaganda, evan was there talking about palestine.
time and time again, he has shown how important it is to use your platform to raise awareness of so many issues, and boy, he is not afraid to use it!
it is a massive shame the fandom is the way that it is because there are so many leaves you can take from evan's book.
it's so refreshing to see that there is at least one cast member from the show genuinely cares.
