FBI Most Wanted had an episode with a guy named Charlie who was deep undercover for two years and went rogue, and let's just say that it gave me ideas.
#another show that chose to off its lead (a few years back)#instead of paying him#although no one can reach hudson and rex in levels of disrespect at the moment#going through the fbis pray for me lol#most wanted used to be my favorite of them like three years ago and then they managed to lose almost every character one way or another#still#fbi most wanted has a format that allows for cast changes (although given the fact that it was canceled... these weren't great moves either#anyway dylan mcdermott go do philly justice man#pretty sure they can't get paul rudd now either

Long post but I had to get my thoughts on Hudson & Rex (and certain fans) out.
This has been in the back of my mind for a while, and I think I've finally put my finger on what's been bothering me about the way a certain online contingent are reacting to the imagined idea that John Reardon has been forced out of Hudson & Rex.
TL;DR - We have nothing to go on that John's not returning and anyone who feels owed an answer by the studio/actors/dog handlers who have no say over the studio's decisions needs to take a good long look at everything. Use some critical thinking skills and just breathe for a second. And maybe some compassion for the fact that John nearly died half a year ago.
(And spamming every social media account related to the show demanding answers is not going to get anyone what they want. In fact, it's highly likely to do the opposite and I'm not surprised people's comments have been deleted. Especially for all the tangential people - but even for John! - they're probably pretty miserable to get yet another contact about this.)
More below the cut.
First off, let me say I'm a huge fan of the show. This is probably one of the first shows in a while that I got so into so fast. It has a lot of the things I love in media all rolled into one, I would be upset if they truly did kill off Charlie Hudson, and I've been anxiously awaiting any cast news. However...
None of us are owed a single thing by any studio, producer, or actor, especially not on our timelines. I know we live in a day and age of constant news and instant gratification, but we certainly aren't owed what might currently be tentative, confidential information regarding an actor's contract. If both parties haven't signed a final agreement, then they likely cannot publicly publish any related details. Maybe they're still negotiating. Maybe John is still trying to figure out how much he can commit to for a new season. Because lemme tell ya, acting might seem glamorous, but do you know how many hours they have to put in and how physically demanding even a Hallmark movie is? Let alone Hudson & Rex where Charlie is regularly jumping off of things and fighting people? More on why this is important in point 3.
We basically have never been told the regular stars were coming back. I looked but can't find where the show announced that any of their actors were coming back for seasons 2-7. They just said the show was returning. And... that's what's happened with season 8. The promo materials thus far have been on par with every other season's promo materials. (Because I love the show, but for some reason they never really put out much until the season premiere is nearly upon us.) Did we get an announcement that Luke joined the cast? Yes. Because he's a new addition (and it's often part of the contract that they'll promote it.) Did we get an announcement that Justin, Kevin, or Mayko are coming back? No. So... maybe hold up on assuming John's not returning just because nobody has mentioned that he is. We've never gotten much early promo content, just that the show was back… so why are all of these people suddenly so sure that John's been punished by the studio for having cancer? Speaking of which…
John practically just got the all-clear from his cancer diagnosis. In late December, he posted that it was his first night out since being diagnosed. (And my heart broke at the hospital picture he included because he looked so tired and sick. His "now" picture was drastically better, but you could tell he was still recovering.) Are these fans all forgetting that the man literally almost died not even 6 months ago? I don't know if their understanding of cancer is what they've seen on a couple of pieces of media or if the cavalier way most shows (including Hudson & Rex) handle injuries, poisonings, etc most of the time has warped any sense of what actually happens when a human being is deathly ill, but... illness wrecks your body. Chemo wipes out your immune system. Fighting cancer weakens your entire system. How are people demanding he turn around and come back to an extremely physically demanding role and spend 20+ hours a day on a set for weeks? They might still be figuring out just how much John can physically do. For that matter, John's doctors might not have even cleared him yet and the studio is waiting it out or John may have just recently decided if he was well enough to come back. (Also, he has a wife and three little kids. I'm pretty sure the seriousness of them losing him was a lot to deal with. Maybe he needed time to decide if he's able to fully commit to coming back?)
John's likely still dealing with a lot with having lost Diesel. They were incredibly close. All of the interviews I've seen talk about how much they bonded (they were co-stars for 6.5 seasons!). I remember one where they talked about how they had to keep Rex off-set when they filmed scenes where Charlie was in danger or got hurt because Diesel wanted to tear people apart for touching him. So then consider that John's fighting cancer, and then Diesel gets sick and passes away - and John probably couldn't even really see him much if at all because of him also being sick. (How hard must it be to have your co-star die of the same thing you're fighting? And not even be able to grieve properly because of the sheer amount of energy you're expending just trying to stay alive yourself?) Can we show some compassion toward the guy? And not just wail about how we're being cheated of... well, anything? Like, come on, cancer should put everything into perspective!
Luke joining the cast has 0 bearing on if John's staying. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Luke was added so the show could continue having a lead detective who can fall down a well for Rex to rescue while John comes back to regular episodes slowly. Maybe they'll be partners long-term. Who knows. NONE OF US DO. That's kinda my whole point here. (And yeah, the show is called Hudson & Rex, not just Inspector Rex, but I have a feeling these fans would've still lost their minds when the original show changed their human cast multiple times.) The only thing that the show starting to film season 8 means is they have a required schedule to stick to in order to meet legal requirements with the studio. Which could also have a lot to do with why Luke was added as a series regular.
Can we all just calm down and find our thinking caps? I'm aware that might be too much to ask from the internet at large, but I'm also really tired of all the panicking fans I've seen posts from lately.
At the end of the day, this is a television show that does not actually control any of our lives, and demanding they cancel it and end everyone's jobs in a very competitive industry just because you're upset about something that may not actually be happening just feels really self-centered and unfair to me.
Maybe John's leaving after all (and if he is, I'll be sad). Maybe he's coming back eventually. But also maybe don't harass every single person related to the show and contribute to making all of them miserable just because you feel like you're owed an answer and a specific outcome?
#look i also love this show but there's this thing called perspective#can we please all just calm down#also even 7 seasons is nothing to sneeze at for any show nowadays#i'm grateful for what we've gotten already#Hudson & Rex#John Reardon#CityTV#Shaftesbury Films

season 8 is a go BUT.......
Looks like it was the last for John Reardon as Det Charlie Hudson and with the loss of Diesel who played Rex whom passed away early into filming season 7 but his offsprings taken over his role. John also cut down his screen time in season 7 due to him battling Cancer. but there has been a short release not coming directly from CityTV but through TV-eh
Beloved Hudson & Rex returns for Season 8 with Luke Roberts (Game of Thrones, Ransom) officially joining the cast as Detective Mark Hudson. Production for Season 8 is currently underway in St. John’s, Newfoundland and will premiere this fall. [Editor’s Note: A spokesperson for Citytv confirms John Reardon will not return to the series.] Doesnt mention if the remaining cast will be back, also which they could be returning (Mayko, Kevin and Justin)
It just sad to see the show that had so much potential and can understand John who had personal things going on last season to see that the direction of the show is going to be obviously different and I wish the show well but not sure I will really watch s8 since there wont be any Charlie/Sarah and if John returns somehow storywise than will add those scenes/clips and maybe work on some GIFs of their earlier seasons/moments.

On Jennifer Hudson's talk show she does a spirit tunnel where her staff flank the walls and sing repurposed songs crafted for the guest/s. While you're supposed to dance (think Soul Train line), many just walk, which I understand if they feel they can't dance. But I say everyone can dance, no one says you have to dance well - just dance. Life is too short and at time oh so rough, why not give yourself the over to a bit of fun?
Some Spirt Tunnel participants in this clip:
-Brian Tyree Henry always passes the vibe check. He can currently be seen in Rachel Morrison's THE FIRE INSIDE starring Ryan Destiny. The film is the true story of Olypmpic boxer Claressa "T-Rex" Shields.

Aaron Taylor Johnson - #1 Brian Tyree Henry fan.
In the last two years there have been some solid true story sports filim - from great to good. I, sadly, don't think any of them will become favourites like "Rudy", "Remember the Titans" or "We Are Marshall", but if you want a nice day in watching sports-themed films "The Fire Inside", 'Unstoppable", "Young Woman and the Sea" and 'The Boys in the Boat" make a nice quartet.
-Aaron Pierre - Currently voicing Mufasa in MUFASA: THE LION KING and will soon be seen as Green Lantern in WB/DC's LANTERNS. Pierre will be the first live action John Stewart. You can also watch him in Netflix's REBEL RIDGE, an excellent film about police corruption and forfeiture.
-Jodie Turner-Smith - Can currently be seen on Showtime/Paramount+'s THE AGENCY alongside Michael Fassbender and Richard Gere.

Turner Smith is in the midst of divorce proceedings with ABC's DOCTOR ODYSSEY star Joshua Jackson. They have been at it for a while, but the new wrinkle is that Turner-Smith is requesting spousal support and an increase in child support for their four-year old daughter. In Turner-Smith's initial divorce petition she asked the courts to terminate the rights to either parties demanding support, but since the divorce proceedings have dragged on and her legal costs are mounting, she is now requesting support.
-Cynthia Erivo. Currenty can be seen in WICKED PART 1 which has now hit digital release and has already racked in $70 million dollars.
There are fans who are shipping Cynthia and her WICKED costar Ariana Grande because, why not? Funny to me that there are some people just now finding out that there was a rumour that Cynthia's current partner Lena Waithe left her wife for Cynthia. We're losing recipes!!! All that went on during the Tessa Thompson/Janelle Monae era.
-NOBODY WANTS THIS cast - Adam Brody is the only one committed to the bit. Sadly, Brody and his wife Leighton Meester lost their home in the current wildfires that are raging in Los Angeles.
Gold Stars for the ladies of REAL HOUSEWIVES OF BEVERLY HILLS, especially Dorit; and the ladies of THE SIX TRIPLE EIGHT, Teyonah Parris and Olatunde (O-T) Fagbenle of Netflix's NO GOOD DEED who made up for the lackluster participation of Ray Romano and Lisa Kudrow, Gwen Stefani because she's Gwen Stefani, Courtney B. Vance, The Propoerty Brothers and Derek Hough because they are having the most fun.
And AGATHA ALL ALONG's Kathryn Hahn dancing to a remixed version of "Ballad of the Witches' Road" from the series.

*CLEANED UP AND REUPLOADED*
In honor of Diesel and all he gave to Hudson and Rex. The lives he touched with his warm, loving presence will never forget what an honor it was to walk beside him.
To the cast and crew - John, Mayko, Kevin, and Justin - and especially to Sherri...thank you for sharing his light with the world. Diesel will forever be imprinted on our hearts, and we will carry his soul with us always.

Random season 7 trying to round up info stuff:
We don’t have an official number of episodes. IMDb currently has titles for 6 (one of which is labeled as episode 8, so they’re doing at least that many.) Next Episode has 8 titles. The Shaftesbury website last I checked lists Hudson and Rex as having 109 episodes so that would seem to indicate there are 9 total in s7. There was an until rumour of 10 episodes which came from someone close to production, but I wonder if they cut it down to 8 or 9 due to John Reardon’s illness.
Worth noting: Every other Canadian drama series that I follow has a short season. Most of them (Murdoch Mysteries being the notable established exception, and the only one with a longer season) don’t/didn’t start until mid-season. The shorter episode order may not have been entirely due to John’s illness, but I guess we’ll see.
Interestingly, one episode on IMDb currently doesn’t have John in the cast list. I can’t see them writing him out of an episode entirely but who knows how they’re going to explain (what I’m expecting to be) Charlie’s reduced screen time.
Also noteworthy: it looks like Renley and Detective Porter are each coming back.

In case you missed it, here is the link for the Toronto event. It starts around 2:02:00 which is roughly where I marked it. In theory, the link should redirect to the right place in the video.

I know practically nothing about the going's on behind a TV show, but if I was the cast (and crew) of Hudson and Rex I'd be slightly peeved if I didn't know for definite whether my (hugely popular) show was coming back, especially after the season has finished and they (and us) usually know by then.
I mean they need to know or they'll start to find other work (yes, I know that there will be contracts, but if they do it every 3 seasons say then negotiations would be on the table!)
Pull your finger out City TV, this show has won you awards for Dog's sake and its cast have been nominated multiple times, so I don't know what you're playing at!

As much as I wish that theory to be true, it doesn’t explain why they haven’t even reached our to John R about coming back… or Meghan orys comment on YT
You are presenting these as two different things when they are actually one thing. It's because they haven't contacted John Reardon that Meghan Ory made those comments. I don't know what is going on, I said so from the start. However, I think that with the way they had to film S7 they possibly burned more money than they had budgeted. And that's also one reason to push episodes for the next season. In any case, I doubt they have the budget for both John Reardon and Luke Roberts in the first place if both are supposed to be paid as main cast so they can't have both in S8.
If this was a production I could trust to do things in a way that was timely and proper, then that alone would disprove my theory on the spot and I'd have been sure that they would have contacted him by now. Since they are not such a company, I put it out there. I understand the skepticism and I don't favor it as the most likely theory, but it's still a viable theory in my opinion. Besides, if it's incorrect it will be disproved soon if I can catch another casting job referencing Mark past that episode.
#hudson and rex#anonymous#reply#they're also known for not paying their crew on time fyi (don't know about the cast)#so who knows what else they don't do

Hudson & Rex is a great show but for something that is based in Newfoundland, the lack of cast with actual Newfoundland accents is astounding.
On the other hand, watching the show is fun because every so often I will hear the little bits under their voices that my voice does and I know its a Newfoundland actor suppressing their accent.
On the foot though. It brings me so much joy and homesickness when they let someone actually have their full accent. I want to go back so. So bad.

Do you know how many povs each of your series will have ?
So Horsemen will have Frisco, Raleigh, Detroit, Carolina, and Phoenix's POVs. I'm unsure if Hudson, Dallas, and York will get POV chapters - if so it'll most likely start in book three. Depends on how loud they want to get. But right now for the first two books we're in just those five points of view and alternate fairly equally between them.
The dragonfucker series... oh god. So many. Soooooo many. We're far too early for me to say just how many but off the top of my head at least fourteen. There might be occasional one-off chapters from other characters' points of view as well in order to provide readers with additional information (for example, I don't plan to have much from Mercury or Rex's POV but might need one or two for plot reasons for the reader). Think of it like ASOIAF in regards to POV hopping, though I hope the cast will never get too out of hand even as it expands in later books as the ripple effect of events of the series inevitably become global.
I will say these are the two that have the most point of view shifts in the cast. In my trilogy it stays between three characters, and in the standalones no more than two. These two series happen to have more ensemble casts. Why did I do this to myself. Why am I starting with the biggest projects. Why did none of you stop me!?
#lincoln answers things#lincoln writes stuff#horsemen quartet#the dragonfucker series#me writing Mortal Leviathans like YOU get a POV chapter and YOU get a POV chapter and YOU get a POV chapter...#as for Horsemen I'm 90% sure York will not get a POV chapter#Dallas and/or Hudson might because again depending on how things go it might be required for plot reasons#we'll see exactly how certain events or information end up getting conveyed to the reader

What We Know So Far (Updated June 3rd)
Rogers (the telecommunications company owning CityTV) has updated the Hudson and Rex poster on their Upfronts:

Source: https://www.rogerssportsandmedia.com/upfront-2025/
All the information below is still valid but the fact that there now exists a poster makes the point moot. It's not about proving it to anyone anymore.
Previous Update 23/5/2025:
John Reardon is not scheduled to come back for S8.
How do we know this?
Season 8 is currently being filmed as of May 20. It will have all of 8 episodes and filming will end on July 27. Source: https://www.dgc.ca/en/national/production-crew/61500
Proof that they're already filming: https://www.instagram.com/p/DJ9n_zXxy53/
https://bsky.app/profile/gloriouslyhorrible.bsky.social/post/3lpohpoewws2w
It has been confirmed by John Reardon's wife Meghan Ory that he is currently at home and not in Newfoundland, in a video they did a week ago in their Youtube channel, Iplay1ontv. She mentioned that she would go do a movie and he was going to be at home taking care of their kids.
Later, in the comment section of said video, she also replied to other people's comments who were worriedly asking whether he'd be back on the show (having done the math), and trying to not outright say that he wouldn't be back at first, but reinforcing the fact that John Reardon had not been called for the eighth season of Hudson and Rex. When fans suggested a hashtag to bring him back, she said it was a good idea and while she was referring to the specific hashtag that was proposed, that meant that she had also confirmed to the fans that he hadn't been called back.
Detective Mark's name (as officially credited on IMDb) is mentioned in a casting call for the episodes that were supposed to be aired last season (two of the episodes initially scheduled for S7 were pulled, resulting in an unusual casting call). Source: https://castingbymaggie.com/job-detail/345
(Please do not share this link! Screenshot or copy-paste if you need something from it, otherwise you may stop the flow of information.)
The casting call mentions the correct dates for this season's filming, so they will be filmed THIS SEASON. The casting is for guest roles but one of the descriptions for a role (ROLE 5) clearly states: "Something feels off about her involvement, and Mark and Sarah work to discover what that is".
He is also seen from afar in the above video that I linked from Instagram, in a car that suspiciously resembles Charlie's make and model (but not color, they're so original).
There is no other reason for Mark to be there if Charlie was to be there. Moreover, this episode, if they keep the order, would be the second episode of S8, which means that Mark stays and is not there to make the transition to get Charlie back. And the case is a run-of-the-mill case anyway, not referencing Belize or anything connecting to Charlie's disappearance.
All these, plus S7's finale, lead to the fact that their planning on completely changing the show, John Reardon won't be back because he's not been asked back, all of Charlie's stories will cease to exist, as well as his partnership with Rex (which will be passed on to Mark) and his relationship with Sarah.

Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson will officially be back together on set as Private Eyes next week.
On Wednesday June 5, cameras will begin rolling on Private Eyes West Coast, the light crime drama for Global that reunites Priestley and Sampson as quick-witted sleuths Matt Shade and Angie Everett from the original Private Eyes in a new Canadian West Coast location.
The ten-episode spinoff series, announced back in March, will see them taking on a fresh set of cases in Victoria, B.C., with the Pacific Ocean as their backdrop. Lionsgate Canada and Wild Cards studio Piller/Segan, which also made the original, are co-producing the show, with Lionsgate Television handling international distribution.
Production is set to run through the summer, with Corus Entertainment’s Global promising first look-images at Shade and Everett’s new digs “soon.” Further casting and storylines will also follow at a later date.
We can also reveal Priestley is now an executive producer on the show.
The original Private Eyes ran for five seasons between 2016 and 2021, and was licensed into 180 territories worldwide. It starred Priestly as a former hockey player who teamed with tough-talking P.I. Everett to form an unlikely investigative powerhouse.
In the U.S., it was first on Ion Television in 2018 and is now offered through services such as Hallmark+, Apple TV+ and Roku.
Corus Entertainment is the commissioning broadcaster for West Coast with Rachel Nelson, VP, Original Programming and Head of Corus Studios, and Lynne Carter, Director, Original Programming, overseeing the production.
Executive producers are Sarah Dodd (Cardinal, Family Law), Jennifer Kassabian (Hudson & Rex, Degrassi: Next Class) and Jocelyn Hamilton (Cardinal, Burden of Truth), in addition to Piller and Segan. Kassabian and Dodd are showrunners. Piller will also direct the pilot episode, and season directors will include Priestley, James Genn (Wild Cards, The Good Doctor), Shannon Kholi (Resident Alien, You) and Alysse Leite-Rogers (When Calls The Heart, Family Law).
“We’re thrilled to reunite Jason and Cindy for this next chapter of Private Eyes, and to be reteaming with our longtime partners at Corus and our good friend Jocelyn Hamilton, along with our extended Lionsgate family,” said Piller and Segan in a statement.
“Victoria gives us a new cinematic canvas and a chance to evolve the series in fresh and unexpected ways. This is a west coast reinvention – same sharp wit, same beloved lead characters, brand new mysteries, with stunning new views.”
“Private Eyes West Coast builds on the brilliance and charm that made the original series a hit, while introducing a bold new setting and cast of characters in this spinoff. We’re thrilled to partner with Piller/Segan, and Corus to bring a fresh, west coast energy to the franchise,” added Hamilton, President of Television, Lionsgate Canada. “Audiences are in for a smart, stylish ride that stays true to the heart of the original while blazing its own trail.”

Hi! How are you? I love your Hudson & Rex gifs! I just discovered the show & I fell instantly in love with it. Fell in love with Charlie & Rex and Charlie & Sarah (and Rex). Sarah Truong is now my forensics princess. Your gifs are just awesome. I was wondering if I could use your gifs on my X/Twitter? I would give you full credit (and a link back to your tumblr). I would never claim credit for your art work. There’s just not a big fan appreciation for the show on Twitter. I was hoping to share the love (and maybe gain a few more fans for the show). Thanks for sharing your art work with tumblr (and me).
Hi! Thank you for the nice words, always nice to hear that ppl like my gifs! However I'm not entirely comfortable with them ending up on twitter. And I definitely do NOT want ppl from there to find my blog. And any of the cast or creators discovering my tumblr and gifs would be like my worst nightmare - like when artists tag the ppl who they've made art of??? That's the opposite of what I'm about lmao (There's a reason tumblr is the only "social media site" I'm on lol)
Although its a small fandom there are other Hudson & Rex gifmakers on this site. Maybe you'd have more luck with them? 🤔
#answered#i hope you understand where i'm coming from!#i'm basically just doing gifs for myself and they were never meant to end up anywhere else other than tumblr
