"hi," she speaks softly, my entire body relaxing just from the sound of her voice.

the drive up to chris' house was the most anxiety inducing yet. it's been the longest gap of seeing him since we met - a month of not seeing him in person or even texting. he knows I'm alive. he's parked outside my house every few nights, peering out his car window into my house - the dark outside making me visible through the net curtains.

of course I feel bad. it's not his fault at all. I think the fact I quit my job at the café and began working on my art from home, meant that my fear of the outside got even worse. I don't ever need to leave the house - chris and his brothers are essentially my only friends, my family all off in a different state so only they have to deal with it.

I know matt understands it. that's why I'm more likely to pick up his calls or see him. Nick is happy to just text me which I find a little easier. chris is just - chris. he's full of love but his love language involves being around people all the time, so it's harder for him to understand how he can be my favourite person but also one of the most overwhelming to be around. I have little energy which extremely contrasts me to him - sometimes he makes me feel like a bad person. what kind of friend am I if I struggle to be around them?

the idea of acting stupid make me wants to curl into a ball a sob while chris sees it as his favourite activity - mainly because it makes me laugh. I love who he is, I just want him to always see me in a positive light, which I could completely shatter if I do something awkward in person.

I park on the street outside their house. hesitant to even turn off the engine.

CHRIS' POV

I have my notifications set with a different alert sound for y/n to everyone else. the sound of it becoming a distant memory every day. I was contemplating driving over - maybe knocking on the door this time. the situation doesn't make me mad, just irritated. I'm used to matt staying home while me and nick go out, so to a certain extent I get it. it just felt as bad as a punch in the face when I saw her hanging out with matt after a week of not seeing me - even though I'd invited her out and she told me she was busy. that was the last time I saw her. I think i must've overreacted - not that I'd admit it to anyone's face.

apart from hers if she asked me to.

ive been pathetic even to the point of staring at photos of her. its insane to me that she can be so perfect, despite her anxieties of the outside world. a part of me is confused on why seeing her pictures is enough satisy my hyperactive brain for hours on end. and a more specific part of me enjoys seeing her pictures a little too much.

the hardest part about her being gone is knowing she'll come back. I get so worked up because she's just not here - but I know she just takes a little time. and that's okay- I guess I just wish I could be the exception. but it turns out matt is.

I get restless nights, headaches and a loss of appetite when she's gone for more than a couple weeks. it's hard to process that without a doubt - seeing her at all, just hearing from her puts me in such a deep state of bliss that I don't even care that she was gone for so long. I just want her here. I need her.

my train of thought is interrupted by an alert on my phone - her alert. I hesitate, thinking I'd imagined it. I hear it a second time and immediately scramble to my bedside table and look at my notifications. as soon as I see her contact name, I open up the chat.

- can I come over?

- im really sorry

my head is whirling around with different thoughts. some of me is irritated that it took this long, mixed with the fact that i was at her house only 6 hours ago, but most of me is desperate just to see her. but I don't want her to know just how desperate I am - I don't want to freak her out.

- doors open

is that too casual? shit.

- I have snacks and stuff but we can do whatever

I sound like a fucking idiot. a couple seconds later (which feel like endless minutes) and she's read the messages. I don't expect her to reply but she somewhat does.

- okay im on my way

I breathe a sigh of relief at the fact she's coming over. then I run to the bathroom at the fact she's coming over. she's about a 20 minute drive away so I have about 25 minutes till she arrives at a push. I try and fix my hair which ends up being a pointless battle. I try and regain focus - tugging off my clothes to get in the shower quickly. my brothers would mock me, which is definitely valid, but I have to look my best. luckily, I shaved this morning when I thought I could convince her to meet up. after the shower, I quickly put on better clothes (ones she said i looked good in - probably a year ago now), fixing my hair a bit more in front of the mirror.

I check the time - it's been 25 minutes. she'll be here in a second. shit shit shit. I sit on the edge of my bed trying to calm my nerves and come up with a game plan for acting normal and not like the down-bad idiot that I have been for the entire month she's been gone.

I decide to let nick and matt know that she's coming over - hopefully preventing possible further embarrassment. I get to nicks door but I can hear his white noise from outside so I know he's already asleep. I head back downstairs to go to matts room. I breathe again - desperate not to sound as nervous as I am, before knocking on his door.

"come in!" I hear matt yell over the sound of his PC.

I push open the door working probably too hard to relax my face.

"um, y/n's coming over by the way" he stares at me with a look of surprise. "I just wanted to let you know."

"y' serious?"

"obviously matt I'm fucking serious. just-" I gesture around with my hands - lost for words. "just fuck off. I don't wanna fuck this up and you'd make that really fucking difficult."

"alright alright - fuck this, fuck that, i get it. watch your mouth and get out, kid." I scoff and shut the door on him.

I peer my eyes over to the staircase and she's stood there looking at me, as perfect as ever.

"hi," she speaks softly, my entire body relaxing just from the sound of her voice.

Candy Vlog ~ Brothers!Sturniolo Triplets

Summary: Nick, Matt and Chris are home in Boston for Halloween but to keep up with their job, film a video, however you steal the show by showing off all your Halloween candy.

Warnings: Possible swearing, nicknames, Reader is ADHD, fluff

You were chaotic to say the least. You had ADHD but had medication to help. But that didn't mean you weren't hyperactive still.

Nick, Matt and Chris were home in Boston for the holiday but still had to film a video for Friday. The trio settled on a simple Halloween vlog, which they had spent most of the day filming bits for.

As Nick, Matt and Chris walked through to the kitchen with the camera, talking about the holiday and getting ready to end the vlog, you were sat at the counter, all the candy you had gathered earlier whilst out trick or treating sat in front of you.

"Hey kid." Chris called, ruffling your hair as he took a seat next to you.

"Hi!" You exclaimed.

"What's all this, petal?" Matt asked, pointing to all the candies.

"My candy! Me and mum went trick or treating and I got loads!" You cheerfully answered.

"Oh yeah? Like what?" Nick asked, placing the camera to face you.

You giggled and started telling them and the camera each of the different candies you got, along with telling them about some of the decorations and other people's costumes you saw. The guys just smiled and listened to you talk, happy you were happy.

When you had finished talking about the treats, you passed each of them one you knew they would like.

"Thanks, sweetheart. You want to watch me edit the video?" Nick offered.

"Yeah!" You shouted happily.

Nick laughed as he, Matt and Chris wrapped up the video. Nick took the camera and walked into his room, you following behind, eating one of your many candies.

You sat quietly watching as he edited the video, not fully understanding how or why he was doing it, but watched nonetheless. You then smiled when you came onto the screen and started talking about the candies.

"That's me!" You cheered.

"That's right, sweetie. You happy for me to keep it in?" He asked.

"Really?" You called.

"Of course, babe. Only if you want it in the video." Nick answered.

"Yeah! Keep it!" You cheered, making him smile.

Nick finished editing the video and kept your candy haul in it, knowing the fans would love it with how cute and funny you were.

childhood bsf! matt invites you to film with his brothers

as always, dividers from my lovely @bernardsbendystraws !!

to say you were nervous would be an understatement. working as a travel agent, you talk to people,sure. but it's either people your age, looking for fun holidays, or the adorable elderly regulars. not.. sitting in front of a camera in a car with your childhood best friends, knowing damn well millions of people will see you.

in fact, you're rather terrified. matt can tell. he offered you to come into a car video a while back, when you still lived in boston. you made some excuse, and entirely forgot. until now, when nick's been pestering you about making an appearance for weeks. everyone wants to know who the girl matt keeps mentioning is.

the idea of matt mentioning you makes you feel excited as a kid in a candy store, but also weirdly overwhelmed. you're all too aware of the amount of hyperactive internet fans that the boys have, and especially matt. having socials yourself of course, means that you're used to a lot of rather.. thirsty content about him. not that you disagree- matt's easily the most attractive boy you've ever met. but the idea of being judged makes an odd feeling settle low in your gut.

and actually, for the two days it's been since the two of you shared the kiss in your new kitchen, that feeling's been there. lingering, and sparking up every time you hang out with matt without either of you mention it.

but it is a little too late now, considering the triplets have just filmed their intro bit, and now you're in the passenger seat, trying to smile whilst they chat amongst themselves.

"is it weird that i'm super hyped?" chris asks for the tenth time in the past five minutes. "like, everyone's gonna love you. because we do! and i get to sit in the back!"

matt rolls his eyes, a feature you often see, but never fails to make you smile. "yes, chris. you're really fuckin' wierd."

nick chuckles, leans over to chris to hug him. "it's like a backseat gang. i always get lonely back here, dude,"

you smile,watching them, but your thoughts are elsewhere. just as you're contemplating asking them if you can chicken out, matt's hand slides over the console, and rests itself gently on your knee. it's gentle. so gentle, like he always is. but your breath gets knocked out of your lungs regardless. why would he..? his thumb taps your thigh, just once. you glance to the monitor. it's not obvious, that he's reaching out to you, and so you shift your arm. and matt? he shifts his, up. fingers wrapping around the bottom of your thigh, eyes searching yours for any discomfort. he tilts a brow. you smile faintly.

"y/n hasn't spoken much," chris states, as if your silence wasn't rather obvious.

"well,yeah, you won't shut your fuckin' gob," nick retorts, sharp as ever with his comebacks. you laugh.

"woah- hey, i was listening," you point out,and watch matt's eyes crinkle as you burst out of that little anxiety bubble.

"maybe you're just boring,chris," matt teases, which sends the youngest triplet into a flurry of expletives as he jokingly swings a punch at matt's head.

"oh, fuck you, dude," chris giggles, although he's obviously kidding. "and you-" he points accusingly to nick. "y'all suck dick. nick especially sucks dick," he bursts into louder laughter at his own double entendre, and you find yourself joining in, along with matt.

nick chuckles, but rolls his eyes. "ooh, a gay joke. original. what're you gonna say next, that i'm the oldest? like, thank you captain obvious. thank you mister .. fuckin' big brain over here. wow, genius."

as usual, nick's crashout makes you all laugh harder, matt creasing forwards that way he does, hiding his face, chris slapping his hands on the back of your seat, as you tip forward, too, giggling.

"holy SHIT nick that was so cold," you giggle, sitting up and laughing harder when you see matt wiping his eyes. "oh my god you're CRYING? it was not that funny,matt," you tease,and lean over the console, without thinking- and swipe your thumb over his undereyes, smudging away his tears.

matt gulps at you like you've done something very intimate, suddenly flushing scarlet and before you can apologize, sinking back into your seat with something like shame, chris inputs a loud whoop.

"OOOOH look at the happy coup-" matt interuppts chris by leaning forward, switching off the camera. he looks pissed. your stomach drops. you've seen matt pissed at his brothers, before, sure, but you can't help but worry. what if it was you? what if-

"you need to get a fucking grip," matt snaps at chris. "she's not my fucking girl, dude. and why would you say that, on camera? are you trying to get n/n fucking bullied? online, are you actually serious right now?!"

the volume makes your ears ring. you've never liked shouting. "matt-" you try to say. "it's fine-"

"no it fucking isn't, no it fucking isn't," matt snaps back at you, without adjusting his volume first, and you recoil, blinking. it was unexpectedly harsh of him,and your heart drops. so does his expression.

"i didn't mean it, n/n." he says quickly, reaching his hand out, curling it with both of yours. "i didn't- i'm not mad at you."

"sure seems like it," you're too hurt to bother pulling your hands away. does the idea of you being 'his girl' disgust him that much?

"okay, woah," nick hastily inputs. "let's not make this something it doesn't have to be, matt, okay? chris didn't think before he spoke. everyone does that. it's fine, we're fine. nobody's gonna bully y/n. i'll cut that bit out! it's all okay, guys."

you nod, swallow faintly.

"i'm sorry," chris says awkwardly into the car. "i didn't think, n/n. i'm really sorry 'bout all this, yeah? hug?" he leans forwards,wraps his arms around your shoulders awkwardly from his seat behind you.

"it's okay," you say, patting his arms. "really, chris. don't overthink it. i honestly didn't even notice. really."

what's hurt you more than any teasing, though, is the offended nature of matt's voice. 'she's not my girl' ringing over and over in your ears, until you felt sick. what about the kiss? what about-

"should we get back to the video?" matt clears the silence like it's easy, like he hasn't just set you back a few paces in making things real. official.

you force a smile. "sure!" and for the rest of the video, you take a leaf out of his book. trying to act like you don't love him at all.

Workshop (Tony Stark x Reader AU)

Tony Stark was good at flying solo. He was good at getting things done, inventing and reinventing and reinventing, and when he couldn’t sleep at night or didn’t want to think about anything else, he knew that he could tinker, and that was exactly what he did. It was starting to get to the point where the Avengers were worrying about his sanity. Well, it was a bit more like Nat, Steve, and Nick who cared. Everyone else had noticed, but it was Tony. It seemed normal for his hyperactive brain. 

Nick tried sending other people down while Tony worked. He began with Steve, and Steve walked down to the workshop, opened it up with the key Nick had given hi, and offered to Tony to help him out. Tony just quirked an eyebrow, looked over at Steve, and said one word. “You?”

Very seriously, Steve nodded. “Yes. Me. Is there anything I can do to help you out here?”

Tony snorted and returned to his work, ignoring Steve entirely. So Steve went back upstairs. The next day, Nick tried sending down Nat. Nat was slightly less ignored than Steve, but Tony quickly forgot she was there and forgot to give her anything to do, so she went back upstairs and informed Nick of the situation. Nick decided he was just going to run an intervention instead. 

“Tony,” Nick said. “You have spent twenty hours of the past twenty-four down in your workshop. It’s not healthy, and you need to stop.”

“Hey, I slept for those four! That’s pretty good for me,” Tony argued. 

Nick rolled his eyes. “Case in point, buddy. It’s not. Either we get someone down there to work with you so you stop overworking yourself, or you minimize the hours you’re there. What’s it gonna be?”

“The second one,” Tony grumbled.

And Tony tried. He really did. He tried not to be in the workshop every waking minute, tried to stay upstairs, converse with people, bully Steve in his free time instead of working. But then he slipped into the habit of sneaking downstairs into the workshop when Nick wasn’t around, and it did not take long before Nick caught on. 

And so you were hired. 

You walked on in to the workshop like you were walking into work, which, of course, you were, but Tony was more relaxed about these things. He seemed confused at first. His eyes flicked up and down and then he asked, “who are you?” 

“Uh, Nick hired me,” you informed. “He said that you needed someone to help out. I needed a new job. Ta-da! Here I am.” Your tone was laced with a hint of sarcasm that made Tony snort. And while he considered kicking you out, he decided that he really didn’t feel like it, and so he just went back to business. 

You just got in his business. It bothered him at first. Tony, again, preferred to fly solo. But he was starting to get some of your helpfulness. You’d solve problems before he could get to them, just to let him continue working on the project. He was doing things…more quickly, he supposed, and your presence was oddly comforting, despite the fact that he knew little about you. At 6 pm, you told him you were going to leave, and so he walked you out. During this brief time upstairs, he managed to get himself roped into a game of Monopoly. 

The next day, you showed up again at 8:30 am, didn’t bother to reintroduce yourself, and got right back to working with Tony. It went on for weeks. He actually looked forward to you coming, and when you left, he often wouldn’t go back downstairs into the workshop. But then he was starting to realize he didn’t know some very basic things about you. He knew your name, but…how old were you? What was your last name? Middle name? Favorite food, favorite movie, favorite book? He had no idea.

So the next time you showed up and got to working with him, Tony decided to ask some questions. As you were helping him attach two chest pieces of the Iron Man suit together, Tony asked, “so uh…what kinds of stuff do you like?”

“What do you mean?” you inquired, screwing in a bolt. 

“Well, I see you every day, and I don’t know anything about you,” Tony replied as he screwed in the bolts on the opposite side. “C’mon, you’ve gotta have likes and dislikes, a personality maybe?”

You snorted. “Uh… I mean, sure, yeah. I’ve got stuff I like to watch when I get home. Music I like.”

“Oh yeah? Like what?” And you get talking. 

Tony’s a hyperverbal guy. He can talk for hours. And he’s actually pretty fun to talk to, as long as you’ve got the energy to deal with him. And you somehow do. 

It’s not long before Nick and the Avengers start to catch on to the fact that Tony likes you. “Don’t date her, Tony, she’s the best thing that’s happened to your mental state, and I would rather you not sacrifice that,” Natasha said. And yes. Tony valued Natasha and her opinion. But he decided to take that specific one with a grain of salt, and he went ahead and asked you out anyway. 

“Aren’t you technically my boss?” you countered. 

“Well, technically, Nick is your boss. I am just your only coworker,” Tony argued. 

You shrugged. “Sounds fine, then.”

The first date you go with Tony on is to a wing bar. You get the spiciest wings off the menu and try to beat each other at who can eat the most of them (they are ungodly hot), and then the two of you get stupider and decide to see if you drink the other one under the table. For a couple of geniuses, you’re both idiots. 

Now, you were both way too drunk to drive, so Tony called Rhodey to come and pick you both up. Rhodey was shaking his head in the front seat while you and Tony giggled in the back of the car like teenagers. 

Nick wasn’t happy about this at first, but he knew there was no way to really fully control Tony, and he eventually learned to let go of it. Besides, you’re Tony’s healthiest and longest lasting relationship in the past decade. Who would he be to break it up?

Chris always knew something was a little off with him. It wasn't until he actually gotten confirmation on what speficially was wrong with him that he simply felt ashamed of it one because he knew he was right but two this is the very thing that annoys his brothers most it causing him to be a little more animated than the both of them combined. So he felt obligated to hide if from them rather then tell them about intially.

At first it was simple and easy to do it wasn't until Nick had questioned him on why he was taking what appeared to be medication.Chris simply blowing it off saying he head ached he had to take advil for.

Chris knew he was eventually going to have to grow the balls to tell his brothers what is actually going on with him rather than beating around the bush.

"hey bud are you okay?"

matt questions chris as he abruptly enters the living room sitting on the coffee table in front of the couch that he and nick were sitting on.

"chris"

nick questions scanning his face to read what he could possibly thinking about in this moment.

"um i have to tell you guys something and I dont want you guys to judge me for it or look at me any different ly okay"

chris mumbles out as both matt and nick agree not to do either of those things after he confessed whatever in the world he was confessing to them.

"so i went to the doctor the other because I-I had a feeling that something was off like with me"

chris trails off as matt quirks and eyebrow up at the simple a cautious trail off chris was doing.

"something off with you like how"

matt questions slowly.

"just i dont know i felt like something was wrong with me and I went to go get it checked out and turns out I have ADHD which is why I'm so I guess hyperactive and quite frankly can focus on something for too long"

chris sighs out. Matt and Nick look at each other in slight shock.

"i have to take medication for it to"

chris sighs out again looking at the two of them taking in their reactions.

"so that advil wasnt"

nick asks chris as he mumbles a quick 'yeah' in reply.

"chris why would you think we would look at you any differently because of this"

matt questions.

"i dont know i just i dont know"

chris stutters out.

"dude we wouldnt look at you differently you are still our brother"

nick chuckles out.

"and i mean at least know we know it just explains everything you know"

matt sigh out.

"thanks guys"

chris mumbles out giving them a soft smile. He truly had the best support system.

Nick would be Brick.

Brick is the leader of the rowdyruff boys as well as the oldest. He started off very evil and still had respect for his brothers, but eventually changed. When HIM brought them back to life, he was very cocky, arrogant, and devious. I don't think Nick is evil but, we know how he can get depending on the situation. I mean Nick said it himself when he gets angry he is scared of himself, so i feel like it adds up. Both Nick and Brick have a tendency to pick on their brothers so it adds up. In the show, Brick and Butch tended to gang up on Boomer so it makes sense for Nick to be Brick considering Nick does team up with Chris on Matt. I also think red compliments Nick very well, especially when he has the red-brown hair thing going on. Brick's main ingredient is puppy dog tail, now we aren't harming any animals so I feel like Nick's ingredient would be a beat up pair of shoes. super dirty from running around and doing who knows what.

Matt would be Boomer

Boomer is the middle child of the rowdyruff boys, categorized as the dumb blonde with blue eyes. Matt isn't dumb though, he just doesn't have a chance to speak because his brothers gang up on him and interrupt him, much like Boomer. After Boomer's resurrection from HIM, he became a loudmouth and fought back. I see that in Matt. Nick and Chris joke about him trying to be tough, but I see it as him standing up for himself, and making his voice heard. Even though Boomer is considered evil, he is still polite. I see that in Matt, he can be mean/aggressive when need be, but for the most part, he is polite. blue looks so damn good on Matt, it's my fav color on him (besides pink.) Boomer's main ingredient is armpit hair. Ion know about yall but I'm not snipping any armpit hair so I feel like Matt's main ingredient would be a hockey stick and a blue slurpee.

Chris would be Butch

Butch is the youngest of the rowdyruff boys, categorized as the chaotic, havoc-reaping, little brother. idk about yall but that is Chris to a T!!! He is so mf chaotic it's mindblowing. There was an episode where Butch poured Gatorade on Mojo Jojo and all I can think about is Chris pouring drinks on Nick in the car. At first when Butch was introduced he was more calm and collected, agreeing with what his brothers wanted to do. When HIM resurrected the boys, that's when Butch became a little chaos gremlin. I feel like that works with Chris because he is calm and collected for the most part and then suddenly he's jumping around and making the most noise. Very hyperactive, jolly, and likes causing chaos. Both Butch and Chris have a tendency to twitch when they get excited, making crazy noises, grinning like a mad man, and flailing their arms. Typical little brother energy. Dungeons and Daddies "a not BDSM podcast but a DND podcast" is a rowdy, horny podcast for adults - yes they know it sounds bad, yes they think it's funny. The cast are Anthony Burch who DMed the first 2 seasons of Dndads and is a player for the 3rd season, Will Campos a player for 2 seasons and a DM for the 3rd, Freddie Wong, Beth May and Matt Arnold who have all been players for all 3 seasons. The first season is about 4 dads - Darryl Wilson a barbarian sports dad who's catholic and bisexually repressed and going through a potential divorce, Henry Oak a hippie druid dad who uses toxic positivity to try and restrain all his emotions, Ron Stampler a step dad who's not the brightest bulb in the shed and is extremely emotionally stunted due to his upbringing, and Glen Close a rockstar dad who is a party going drug using super star dealing with the death of his wife - who get trapped in The Forgotten Realms and are searching for their sons - Grant Wilson who's Darryl's depressed repressed gay barbarian son who hates violence, Lark and Sparrow who are Henry's two twin boys who are hyperactive and utterly feral, Terry Jr who is Ron's step son who's dealing with the loss of his birth father and this replacement dad, and Nick who is Glen's son who acts super tough and grown up and chill but is really rocked by his mother's death - who all got separated from them. The dads go through a series of events trying to locate their sons and dealing with the craziness of The Forgotten Realms while also later being forced to face their own fathers - the kid's grandfather's - who are trying to use the kids as collateral and material for this big power grab. It's a really silly, funny, gut wrenching season about generational trauma and familial loss and instability and you get to watch these 4 dads who struggle handling their own emotions and needs having to deal with raising and caring for their sons who are experiencing really intense trauma from being in this world and how the dad's actions or lack of actions influence how the sons all develop and grow.

Season two is about the grandchildren of those four dads, so the children of Grant, Sparrow, Nick and Terry Jr and how these kids are all affected by the influence or lack thereof of their fathers; and also live in a world fundamentally broken and changed by the actions of their dads. Lincoln is Grant's adopted son and is a soccer jock Paladin who is really rocked by his father's emotionally instability, Lark and Sparrow have a super messy dynamic and that severely affects Normal Oak who is Sparrow's youngest kid and Normal starts out super chipper and happy and ends really fucked up, Taylor is Nick's son who is a super weeb kid who loves his mom and anime, and Scary (or Terry) is Terry Jr's step daughter who is mega emo and hates him. The four of them along with Hermie the Unworthy a kid from their school and Normal's will-they-won't-they partner all try and help save their world and turn things back to normal which means defying their father's and uncovering their past wrongdoings and facing their generational trauma head on while all going through high school at the same time.

Season three is not at all tied to the first two seasons and is instead a 50's themed horror-mystery campaign following a bowling team uncovering secrets and cults within their small town and trying to get to the bottom of things - all while dealing with 1950's issues such as misogyny and poor mental health services. Kelsey Grammar who is a middle aged English teacher, Trudy Trout a housewife (and also a robot), Francis Farnsworth a 16 year old soda jerk turned extreme mental illness conduit, Tony Collette an Italian car salesman and cat boy and Blake Lively a guy who pretty much is from the movie Jumanji all try and deal with shit going on. It is using a Call of Cthulu module and the characters really fucking go through it - particularly Francis.

All the seasons are very, very good and really hit home the themes of generational trauma, identity issues, and the desire to be everything your family and friends want you to be and yet falling painfully and stupendously short. It's got some of the funniest things I've ever heard and is also one of the most gut wrenching series I've ever listened to.

🎥 Waking up early to go on a walk (Per Ellis constant requests) Nick is making sure the little doesn't run off by grabbing the back of his shirt like a cat with the scruff. Either that or Rochelle is holding onto his wrist or arm. They can't afford Ellis running sound, especially so early in the morning

🎲 Pillow forts are Nick specialty. He can make it pretty much structurally sound. Meanwhile, Ellis and Rochelle are inside, giggling and talking about nothing in particular.

🛻 Overall, they love little Ellis, a bit annoying and hyperactive but he's THEIR kid. No one can change their mind about that

This is a great question!

Chris’s brain is just hyperactive, wayyy more than his brothers. It’s interesting actually. His brain works so differently than a lot of people, especially those around him.

That’s why he’s drawn to spiritual people and creative minds. And it’s also why his dreams are so vivid and sometimes super wild. It’s also a reason why he counts sheep or needs to do a grounding/meditative exercise before he goes to sleep! 💤🤍✨

disclaimer: I am but a lass with ADD, so while I do know a lot from both my own experiences and research, you should still take my ramblings with a few grains of salt. I encourage anyone reading to form their own headcanons, and would love to hear them!

So, the Punch-Out wiki (in its current state) implies that Aran Ryan has some sort of mental disorder, so I projected onto dissected him like a deep sea specimen, and may have found out what's going on in his very empty and screwed up head

ADHD has a bunch of characteristics that go with it, but I'll only be going over the ones that apply to Aran and are displayed in canon. Of course, I'll insert some speculation here and there to further support and reason through some of my points. For more reading, I suggest checking out organizations like Mayo Clinic and the National Institute of Mental Health, as well as any self-reports and blogs by people with ADHD (the latter tends to be more personal and far less clinical-sounding, but are just as helpful). Wikipedia is also a good place to go for anything, and you might even find yourself down a few rabbit holes!

Hyperactivity and restlessness

Aran exhibits this in PO Wii heavily. He has a high-stamina fighting style with lots of shuffling around, always bouncing around Little Mac. He can only be stunned through counter-punches and being faster than him (During round breaks, Doc Louis literally says "beat Aran Ryan to the punch"). It is extremely difficult to KO or TKO Aran without intercepting him due to this mechanic. During round breaks, regardless of how beaten and bruised he is, Aran will bounce his leg constantly in Contender and harass the audience in Title Defense.

Impulsivity and recklessness

This one's consistent between his two appearances, surprisingly. In Wii, Aran is portrayed as a dirty cheater who would "do anything to win", according to supplementary comics. He has the most rule infractions in the Punch-Out series, at 32 combined. He stuffs his gloves with horseshoes before his Contender fight and brings a homemade flail made from a broken boxing glove to his bout with Little Mac in Title Defense. During matches, he makes use of headbutts and elbows quite frequently. These are both illegal and very stupid moves, due to the potential of self-inflicted trauma. His flail in Title Defense could be a sign of creativity by thinking outside the box, which is often seen in people with ADHD. In supplementary material for Super Punch-Out!!, it's implied that a fight usually broke out whenever Aran was made fun of in school, showing that he was reckless during his childhood as well.

Emotional dysregulation

In Super Punch-Out!!, Aran Ryan is rather grumpy, and is one of two characters in the entire game to never smile in any of his sprites (the other being Nick Bruiser). Compared to his Wii portrayal, Aran is as clean as it gets in this game, even complimenting the player during the credits. Supplementary material attributes his lower mood to the teasing he endured during his childhood, and that he got into boxing to channel some of his pent-up anger. Depending on how you view it, him being so angry over his peers making fun of his name could be an overblown reaction. This hot-headedness is retained in PO Wii (which could be a sign of impulsivity), but he's essentially the inverse of how he was in Super. He's boisterous, reckless, dishonest, and smiles even while he's stunned. Many of Aran's reactions to being hit are him laughing, which might imply masochism on some level, but is nonetheless seen as an inappropriate response to being hit. He displays some antisocial traits, even, as seen when he throws aside the referee in Title Defense. This is likely caused by a low tolerance of authority, but is still an extreme reaction to the referee just trying to maintain order in the ring (good luck with that, ref...).

Difficulty starting tasks

This is a sign of executive dysfunction, which is closely linked to inattention in people with ADHD. It's exhibited in his Contender intro, where he spends the first three frames of the cutscene messing around. For this one, I'm going to compare Aran's behavior in his Contender intro to all the other boxers that spend their entire intro cutscene in a gym/dojo/training environment, spend the majority of their cutscene explicitly training, or are in several training environments. Here's a neat little chart, where the numbers represent how many slides they spent being "off-task":

I've counted any activity that builds strength and endurance (like eating, running, lifting, or practicing magic in Tiger's case), or requires a large amount of work put in to do (like chopping trees or playing hockey, for Bear Hugger). Some of you might be wondering why I didn't include certain characters, but that's because they're either in a combat setting, switch from training to non-training settings, or are doing unrelated things in what could be a training setting.

If Aran has 3 instances of being off-task, he ties with TD Kaiser, Don, and Macho in terms of how long they're off-task for. If "gearing up" is being counted as being on-task, he only ties with TD Kaiser and himself. Of course, context matters heavily. TD Kaiser, Don, and Macho aren't off-task purely for the sake of slacking off, but show developments of their story throughout Career Mode. TD Aran is off-task for storytelling as well, but it's not motivated by a grudge towards Mac like the other three and falls under the normal definition of "slacking off". Speaking of cutscenes,

Inattention and distractibility

Aran shows this several times in Title Defense. In his intro, he notices a rope in the trash can and gets the idea of making his flail, seemingly forgetting all about training for his match with Little Mac. During round intermissions, he's distracted by the audience throwing objects at him, and threatens them instead of spending the break resting or strategizing.

Anxiety

ADHD is highly comorbid with anxiety, due to executive dysfunction (mainly sensory processing), and the risk of overthinking. I admit that this one is a bit of a stretch, since general restlessness and anxiety are linked in many mood disorders, but it's shared between both of his appearances. Super's version of Aran being caught up in his own past can be a sign of social anxiety as well as falling victim to overthinking. In PO Wii, the leg bouncing can be a sign of anxiety for various reasons, whether it be physiological (ex. outside stimuli being unpleasant) or psychological (ex. overthinking the match). His stance in Exhibition's menu for his Contender match is also a little shaky, which is common in fight-or-flight reactions, though it could also be plain hyperactivity.

Pressured speech

In PO Wii. Aran usually talks very quickly, which can be caused by the classic ADHD experience of "having a lot to say, and feeling like there's no time to say it". It's very likely that it's just be a characteristic of his accent, though.

There's plenty more symptoms you could make arguments for, but these were some of his more prominent traits. ADHD shares symptoms with a lot of other disorders, though, so let's see some other possibilities...

Counter-Diagnosis #1: Bipolar II Disorder

Bipolar II, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, is characterized by a a pattern of depressive states and hypomanic states (notice the hypo- prefix). We can attribute Aran's demeanor in Super to a depressive state, and his demeanor in Wii to a hypomanic state. I've chosen bipolar II instead of I due to the specifications of a "manic state" not fitting his Wii portrayal as closely.

Hypomania (literally meaning "less than mania") shares many characteristics with full-blown mania, but is more toned-down. People who have experienced genuine hypomanic states usually describe it as helpful towards their productivity, while manic states are notoriously more harmful and often directly affect productivity. Symptoms of mania include restlessness, racing thoughts, pressured speech, overconfidence, increased agitation, impulsiveness, a disconnect from one's surroundings, extreme anxiousness, and many others. Already, we can observe many of these symptoms in Aran's Wii portrayal that are shared with the ADHD diagnosis. However, hypomania tends to lack the "reality disconnect", and we can see that Aran is very aware of his surroundings. Him being in the World Circuit in both Super and Wii can be interpreted as a sign of the hypomanic states being more helpful than detrimental (maybe less so in Super because of the existence of the Special Circuit, but I digress).

I think this take has a lot of ground, maybe more than the ADHD hypothesis. A lot of my earlier points in favor of him having ADHD can also apply to him being bipolar (specifically hyperactivity, recklessness, and especially emotional dysregulation) as well, which blurs the line in some places, but it's still a very strong argument.

Counter-Diagnosis #2: Oppositional Defiant Disorder

According to Mayo Clinic, ODD is "a frequent and ongoing pattern of anger, irritability, arguing and defiance towards parents and other authority figures". The characteristics of ODD can be observed in both SPO's and Wii's Aran.

I think this one's weaker, for a few reasons. First, ODD is considered clinically relevant only during childhood; from then, it can "evolve" into a number of other conditions, including but not limited to borderline personality disorder and the aforementioned bipolar disorder. Obviously, Aran isn't a child, but he could have had this disorder in the past and "grew out of it" from a clinical standpoint.

You could make an argument for the anger issues due to a few of his behaviors, as well as his voice lines in Wii having a sort of "growl" to them, but his irritability is infrequent and mild enough to where it can be attributed back to emotional dysregulation, and the "growl" could just be how the character or his voice actor naturally sounds (I haven't found any clips of Stephen Webster speaking out-of-character, but if anyone has any, I'd love to hear them).

Counter-Diagnosis #3: Antisocial Personality Disorder

The DSM-5 defines APD as consistent displays of deceitfulness, issues with authority, impulsivity, irritability, recklessness, and a diminished capacity for remorse after hurting someone. Again, a few of these symptoms are shared with ADHD, so there's a significant grey area here. Yet, I believe it's stronger than the ODD argument, since his cheating can be a sign of deceitfulness and his apparent antisocial traits in Wii. However, boxing as a combat sport doesn't leave much room for feeling remorse, since doing so can result in throwing or forfeiting a match. I'm not going to count the lack of remorse due to the nature of the sport, but you as a reader can interpret it how you like.

Counter-Diagnosis #4: Autism Spectrum Disorder

Because of how broad the autism spectrum is, you could easily go crazy in-depth with this. I'll do a miniature version of the ADHD symptom setup, which includes traits observed in canon. I won't be including every shared trait, but do keep in mind that ADHD is comorbid with a bunch of different spectrum disorders, and misdiagnoses, especially in women, are fairly common in the real world because of it. I know I'm going to fail to list certain symptoms due to just how many ASD traits there are, so if anyone reading has any more connections to make, be my guest! This "counter-diagnosis" section is for provoking further discussion, after all, and I'm happy to learn from you all.

Hyposensitivity

In PO Wii. To wind up for his right uppercut, Aran hits himself in the side of the head, and after round breaks in Contender, he hits himself repeatedly. Considering his gloves are confirmed to be loaded in his Contender fight, his relative indifference might be a sign of this. People with autism have reported tuning out various stimuli if they become overwhelmed by a bunch of them (sometimes related to meltdown or shutdown), and it's possible that that's what Aran is doing here. The bright lights of the venue combined with the crowd noise and the feeling of being sweaty could be overstimulating, and the supposed hyposensitivity towards being hit is caused by this "tuning out" to avoid a shutdown mid-bout.

Stimming (repetitive movements)

In PO Wii. The leg bounce in his Contender round break can be interpreted as a stim, as well as the wind-ups for his right uppercut (bopping himself in the head) and headbutt (choosing to wind up on the ropes). His bouncing around Mac could also be stimming.

Pathological demand avoidance

This phenomenon can also be comorbid with anxiety, which happens to be a risk factor for ADHD, so we're looping back around with this one. PDA is characterized by a person exhibiting an intense aversion to something that is asked of them, even if they wanted to do it beforehand. It can be associated with feelings of unfairness and like they don't have any control, so someone with PDA may "break the rules" to feel as though they have some control over what happens to them. Aran's high infraction count in Wii could be a sign of a more obsessive form of this. Avoiding the process of carrying out the demand can be conflated with executive dysfunction as well.

You were sat on Nick's bed as he set up the live, Matt quietly next to you on his phone. You planned on spending the day with him, Matt and Chris. The guys wanted to do a live first and asked if you wanted to join, which of course you said yes to. However, you hadn't had your meds today as you were waiting for new ones to arrive, so you were a bit bouncy and hyperactive.

"Chris hurry upppppp." You called, bouncing your leg.

"I'm here bub, I'm here." Chris called as he walked in, ruffling his hair.

You smiled as Nick started the live, many fans quickly flooding in to send messages. You waved and responded to a few comments too. But maybe twenty minutes in, you started to get bored.

You got up, walking around Nick's room. The guys didn't say anything, knowing about your ADHD and knew you had to regulate a lot.

You then got a fun idea. You grabbed Nick's pillows and threw them at the guys. They all turned around at the same time.

"Your asking for it." Chris warned, but you stuck your tongue out at him.

"Come sit down." Nick instructed.

You came and sat next to him as he replied to more comments, sometimes asking you stuff too. Until you lost focus again. You started jumping on Nick's bed, making the three laugh.

"Someone's out of meds." Matt said.

You giggled as you started to bounce around the room, your sock covered feet making you slide about slightly. You knew Chris and Matt were watching you, by their laughter, while Nick was trying to continue the live.

"Yes Y/n has the zoomies." Nick said, making you laugh loudly. You rushed over to the camera and got close.

"i have zoomies. My meds haven't arrived yet and I drank two Pepsi's." You said.

"Two!" Chris exclaimed.

"Like you have room to talk about Pepsi!" Matt responded.

Chris laughed again as you started rambling to the live. It went on for a while, before you all ended it.

"Now what?" You asked.

"Top golf or bowling?" Chris suggested.

"Golf! Golf!" You shouted before Matt or Nick could respond.

"The kid has spoken." Matt said.

You smiled as you ran downstairs, before they even moved from their spots on the bed.

"I bet she's already in the car with AUX." Nick said.

"Better not be!" Chris shouted, rushing downstairs, only to see you trying to find your shoes.

"Where did you go." You mumbled, looking around.

Chris watched and noticed them sitting by the stairs where you came in. He chuckled and picked them up as Nick and Matt both came down.

"Bub, here they are." He said, as you turned around.

You smiled and slipped them on, getting Chris to tie your shoelaces, before you all went to the car.

"Can I sit in the front, pleaseeeeeeeee." You asked, dragging out your words.

"No pressing buttons." Matt said, making you nod and Chris whine.

You got in the front seat and put your seat belt on, however shocked the guys by grabbing Chris' phone and plugging it in.

You sang along to the songs on the way to top golf and when you arrived, you were happy as it wasn't really busy.

You all got set up, you going first. You started straight off with rapid fire, making the three laugh again.

You giggled, screaming a bit as you hit the targets and Nick telling you to try and be a bit quieter, whilst laughing.

When you stopped you turned to the guys, a beaming smile on your face.

"Did I do good?" You asked, making their hearts melt and smile.

I’ve been a fan of his channel from his Attack on Titan reactions. I’ve seen people say he’s too hyperactive, but imo he’s actually a guy who’s super excited about everything and it doesn’t feel fake.

But the best part is his media critical thinking skills is top notch. The guy was a Gabi fan and enjoyed the (anime) AOT ending, he also recently started Naruto and loved it too, so that’s a guaranteed winner in my book!

Just look at his reaction to the first Deku vs Kacchan fight: he’s already got the romance pinned down from the bullying lol.

Like yeah he’s being 90% sarcastic but he actually gets it, unlike antis these days who would immediately scream “Abusive Proship!”

He says: Deku has a lot of love and admiration for Bakugou from his childhood, but he doesn’t accept that love!

He sees All Might’s interaction with BKDK and feels like he could be a father figure for Bakugou, just as much as for Deku!

(He also thinks Bakugou has parental issues or is fatherless lol, that’s the only thing he got wrong. He roasted Bakugou a lot in the early episodes, as expected, but even he says that he’s sure Bakugou will become one of his favorites in time.)

One Disclaimer! I am NOT claiming he is a BKDK shipper, in fact I hight doubt it since he’s a straightforward male anime fan. But it’s nice to hear some fresh, positive perspective instead of all the hate towards us. The awkward silence in the video needed to be filled.especially since the topic of conversation, old crushes.“Nick had a crush on my brother”I blurted out.chris and Matt laughing at the comment and its abruptness.it was true though.

I wasn’t surprised when he told me he liked my brother.He was sorta nicks type I suppose.curly hair,lightskin,goes to the gym.he was a ladies man too, always having a girl with him.most of my friends have liked him at some point in time so this news wasn’t shocking.

“Bitch you had a crush on both my brothers”Nick retorted.The claim caused the boys in the front to turn around sharply.

“Wait what?!”Chris asked, shocked.

My laughs were threatening to join everyone else in the car but I had to keep the bit up. “Alright guys so vote me #1 wingman in the world, I’m out” I said as I flicked the sunglasses from the dollar tree down to cover my eyes and stepped out of the car.

“Where is she going?”Chris said weakly.Nick pulled out his phone to record me running away through the open door.Once I felt that I had gone far enough away I scurried back to the car,cold and scared of the dark parking lot.

“That was a bad idea”I said as I sat back down in the car, rubbing my arms roughly for friction and eventually heat.my actions making everyone in the car,including me ,laugh again
