Penny dreadful finale thoughts

This is gonna be a long one so sit tight. First off like, almost none of the characters in the show got what they deserved like everything was such a fuckin dramatic tragedy. Except probably Dorian, i feel like his story arc ended in a believable way. Secondly like, i cant get over how out of character everyone was in season 3 like. Victor 'make-u-a-proper-woman' frankenstein is not that much of a sexist. Id literally be able to accept it if it was consistent with his character but that shit came out from nowhere. Also, why the fuck did he just forget he was friends with vanessa?? Did he just never visit her from the end of season 2 to the beginning of season 3?? Especially since they seemed to be getting along pretty well all this time?? Honestly everything about him in s3 just made him into a bit of a pathetic dick and, i feel, undid a lot of the character development he went through. (And if I were Jekyll i would have punched him at least once already) Its kind of the same with ethan like, great outfit change but also i find it unbelievable that he would entertain Hecate in any way. I understand he was at a low point at that time but also?? Given everything hes seen with vanessa, especially the time they spent in the cut witch's cabin together (im looking specifically at the time when he strongly fought against vanessa about using black magic), i cant believe that he would for one moment ally himself with the forces that he condemned so much n so strongly cuz oh idk, they literally tried to KILL vanessa? A person he cares deeply about???? As for him actually falling in love with hecate, that was a total left fielder again like yes they were stuck in a crazy dessert journey together, no i dont think thats excuse enough to start fucking, particularly considering the events of the s2 finale???? (Also the fact that he never found out that he killed sembene (who is the winner of the didnt get what he deserved trophy btw) because of hecate is gonna bother me forever) Like speaking of hecate, i feel like her story arc was just so pointless. It was imo just a tool to the larger plot, in which case why even make her an instrument with an arc. Why give her so many cryptic scenes n ooooh im so evil when literally all she does is nearly die on a dessert journey and then unsuccessfully try to recruit ethan to the dark side. There was all this buildup through season 2 as she works to betray her mother n like i though she was going to be the ultimate satan witch thing who would become even stronger n start some crazy shit but like no? Instead she follows ethan to america on some wild assumption that she can definately convince him to be evil (again i cant believe this worked) n then is uncerimoniously shot to death i guess after completing her mission? So everything she did was literally pointless, other than taking up ethans time. Even that brief stint of evilness she kinda got him to do didnt fall through in the end so like. Okay. Its also just kinda funny watching them swap token poc characters around Other than that, vanessa obviously didnt fuckin deserve to die are u kidding me rn. N i find it fuckin hard to believe that she could resist lucifer who spent the entire 2nd season tormenting her like crazy but not fuckin dracula. Dracula who is literally just a vampire vs actual satan. I guess i can see it in the sense that he used love as his tactic etc etc and that all her close friends were away (*cough*im lookin at u frankenstein*cough*) but still. Vanessa is not that gullible id think. I mean lucifer pulled the same 'i will love u for who u are' act as well and if u count the torments from s1 to be draculas doing then theyve kind of tormented her the same amount. Im not saying its entirely unbelievable here, but i am saying that it could have been better written. Angelique was totally unfairly murdered. She was a great character and i would have rather watched her and dorian go on dates for 5 hours rather than all the scenes of victor pining for lily added together. Where the heck did dracula disappear to btw? N what r they gonna do with sam barnett trapped in sir malcoms basement? Also that bloody threesome between dorian, lily and justine was just really uncomfortable to watch because i know for a fact that drying blood becomes sticky and tacky and like...think of the chafing please. All this shit being said, its not like i hated the show. On the contrary i thought it was great!! Just... some parts could have been better? I thought all the actors (esp Eva Green n Billie Piper) were fantastic n it was super well executed. The set and costume design were sweet as heck n the fight scenes were especially good (i loved seeing how shit at combat victor was n his go-to of beating the lights out of monsters while screaming in fear) I could probably go on here but like this post is long enough and I cant think of anything else off the top of my head so tldr; no one got what they deserved (except maybe dorian) but like, still loved it tho

i like to think if codename seren had a sequel, like bw2, thered be a series of changes. which i wanna explore because setting these up would improve the original, even if the sequel never existed, if that makes sense.

though i suppose the issue is, where would you start from? the east? would be kinda neat. then, having Bronwyn be a grass gym makes sense - she would be a natural first gym for the player. but im gonna keep referring to them in the order of the ‘original’, so bronwyn is 8.

gym 1 is no longer run by the Lady, and is instead run by one of her former students (one of the orphans specifically, since she DOES teach other kids). its probably still normal type.

gym 3, which is Will, has likely been completely removed and relocated. im thinking out east. as such, naturally, Will is not present as its gym leader - it would be a local. as for WHERE east, i think it depends how many towns are added - the theory is that after the org falls, the barriers to truly improving the east’s standards of living are gone and a bunch of towns pop up. so, one of those. thatd be fun.

gym 5, the original gym leader has been removed and is nowhere to be seen (you can hear of him though, mostly from locals talking about how much better the new guy is). the new guy is someone from that northwestern town with the mayor (that 5 sends you to before you can fight him), and probably has a different type. not sure what, exactly. yknow what would be fun? dragon. just cause i dont have one, anywhere. ice could be nice, if one of the e4 isnt ice. or ground. idk.

gym 6, which is Sonya, is now way better. for a start, she has an actual gym building (the original gym building was made into like, housing? like a shelter. she ran her gym out of the old gym leaders house, next door). and the town itself is way better, having started to properly rebuild. shes still very much her town first, but now that shes set up safeguards she can devote more time to her gym. the way this manifests is that you can actually challenge her straight out rather than having to do something for her, lmao.

gym 7 is also way better. 7 is still there and running it, but the difference is that he is properly supported. the town is starting to thrive a little more, now that 7 has more resources to use to help them. yay!

and then gym 8 is bronwyn and the town is this case is also positively booming. its now a City, and is the proper eastern hub, rather than just the ‘defacto’. not as big as melbourne, of course, but its thriving on increased accessibility. this also manifests as there being an easier route through the mountains, connecting east and west far easier. im thinking trains. whose down for trains? i am. the old routes are still there or you can just get the train. and you cant take the old routes at the start because you dont have rock smash and strength n shit. there’d be goodies in those routes for you when you come back for them.

as for elite 4, Rhia is firmly entrenched as a member, and maybe she’s moved up a spot or two, but she is NOT the champion. not because she couldnt be, but because she devotes her spare time to running the Urica police. she’s also possibly a member of the international police :3c nice.

there would also be SOME variables. think how if you used that uh... dream radar? thing from bw2 that synced your stuff from bw1 (mostly your name but on a bigger scale), some stuff would be different. like, for instance, if [Sam] was org, theyyy could be found helping people out east. if they were team, you could find them in their home town, having been released a little while ago and having not quite progressed since then. you can walk into their room and chat to them. if they were neither, its probably the same, except with different dialogue and maybe an item, idk. though i also like the idea of Sam taking that Team idea to the extreme and being a part of whatever villain rears its head.

uh, Zeke, id have to figure out his fucking routes to tell you, but my guess is he’s either travelling all around, acting sorta like Elliot, or he’s doing something specific. idk.

Elliot would be retired and living at his home back in the old hometown. the main difference would be minor dialogue changes.

i suppose this all hinges on how far in the future it is. like, if its a ways, there’s the possibility that other e4 members may have retired. the Champion is still there, because shes probably closer to Cynthia than Diantha in terms of age, so she can keep trucking. some of the others mightve lft, but that depends on WHO they are. and in that instance, who would replace them? OOH, maybe thats where Will comes in! Will could upgrade, sorta like how Koga did from kanto to johto. so after Rhia has settled, another elite 4 announces their intention to retire, and the Champio starts asking around. a lot of the current gym leaders are very mcuh supporting their localities, but Will isn’t as phased. he offers to become e4, and he tries to find a successor. he doesnt, theres a LONG discussion, and eventually his gym is relocated from ‘Geelong’ to the east, to bolster its growth. where his gym used to be is probably replaced with some sort of, lets say art gallery. i know Will is a cartographer (of course ID know that, hes my character!) but something LIKE that. something to do with the study of the region and the world. culture, i guess. so you could probably still meet him, in the building where his gym used to be. he’d meet you at the front and would offer to give you a tour. there’d probably be a story segment here anyway and he’d be really fucking peeved about it. again???? AGAIN???? fuck. he’d be livid. my guess is this time the evil team is motivated by the information he has, especially regarding the legendaries that supposedly inhabit the fringes of the region. nice.

oh yea, fucking variables! the tourists! the tourists either appear or they dont. youd basically just be able to meet them in the city, all grown up and adults. they’d chat to you about how lovely this region is, have a bit of a laugh, ask if you’ve seen [your player from the first game], and when you say no (because your player from the last game isnt present) they’d be sorta sad, give you an item for your troubles, and then thats it. thats all they have. and thats only if you befriended them. if you pissed them off, they would not be present. nice going, jackass.

idk. itd be fun. moving wills gym probably makes the pacing a /little/ smoother but thats not really possible in the original region layout. but with boosted east, you can shove it in. nice. and Will being e4 is nice. idk who would leave though. maybe the foreigner? the idea was maybe the ice specialist was a foreigner, from a region with some actual fucking snow (also a sequel would include snow, like, some high mountains w snow and shit. maybe it’d take place in winter just to contrast. hmmmmMMMM. nice. i like that too) so maybe they’ve returned home. yea, probably. we’ll see who is who in the e4 anyway. i still wanna be there. i could be the elec gym leader. which means, from game 1 to game 2, the only change to ME is that my design would update to reflect that i’m different, lmao. that’d be fun. sorta like Elesa except with 0 narrative justification.
