Heya, thank you so much for the kind words! Fairly simple answer here, I use the same software for both- I work in Clip Studio Paint. I DO have asesprite and I really want to learn how to use it, mainly for patterning/tiling in pixelart. But currently all I use is CSP. It's served me well!
Pixel art can be done in basically any program that has a pixel brush luckily. But ye this is my usual setup! The one upside of working in CSP is that I can do my regular non pixel art concept sketches right there on the other side of the canvas in cases where i feel i need to haha
#i actually dont do detailed sketches like that trevenant often at all. i just did that one cus it was a bigger one at an extreme angle#also to xplore the colors i wanetd a bit#my usual sketches r closer to the ninetales! n that ws a pretty 1 to 1 recreation of the sketch which is rare i usually#change the pose and design when trnaslating to pixel art.#but yeah VERY loose sketches. mainly so i dont get too hung up on 'this has to look like x' cus it might not be able to translate to pixels#well enough. what i can make look good in pixels takes priority over the og sketch haha (also i dont usualy bother to pose the sketches lol#the tree as u can see had no sketch since ykno. just a tree!#i do all my pixel work generally in one#maybe two layers. a second layer usualluy only for bigger elements i want to be able to remove#in this case the second layer i have for the pixels is the white outline around the tree! for the lum/cress i posted it was the light#rings behind it. also i dont think i ever posted that tree here. sad. it was a nice tree.#maybe i should sometime. i was proud of it#not art#ribbon answers#i also need to finisht hat DAMN TREVENANT its just the bg i gotta polish

i think the whole "jin guangyao cares more for his male best friend's life than for those of his own wife and son" thing, beyond being fun xiyao fuel, has a lot of interesting implications in the way jin guangyao latches onto lan xichen as an ideal to aspire to.
ultimately jin guangyao liked lan xichen's status and power more than he cared for qin su, a woman who sincerely loved him and fought her parents to be with him even when he had no real status or backing, and jin rusong*, who couldn't have been more than four when he was murdered for politics' sake.

#smth art#halftone#furry#queer artist#i made this for a Spotify playlist. very proud of how it turned out#long story short i developed a crush on a coworker very shortly after meeting him bc hes very cool and funny and cute#and we got along very well instantly. however nothing ever came of it bc hes the most emotionally unavailable person ive met in my life#so i just kinda Suffered™ for like 2½ years cycling through the stages of grief until acceptance finally stuck#now we're just chill. but i Did make a carefully curated playlist about it all and regardless of current feelings im very proud of it#its super specific and personal but also relatable and has a story arc to it (meeting->falling->pining->resentment->depression->acceptance)#anyway. i was thinking like hmmm i havent been doing digital art in a while and need to get back to that. whats a good lil warmup#to get me back in the vibe of it? and the idea popped into my head to do a cover for the gay and stupid playlist.#maybe ill link the playlist later! who knows! its very good after all#though theres a few specific songs on there that are Personal to the guy i made it about#like i dont think 'shelter' by porter robinson is especially relevant to an unrequited love playlist but. its there for My reasons.#theres also a nice flat no halftone or grunge texture version of this that ill throw in if i link the playlist later cuz why not#but im very happy with how this version turned out!!!#i did less layers this time and it was way easier#usually when i do like. a bunch of ink colors layered. i do 1 color per layer#but if im using more than 4 or 5 colors that gets SO unwieldy and annoying#this time i used 2-3 colors per layer and just made sure they wouldnt need to stack#it worked out rly well i think! and was WAY easier to work with after the colors were down

I woke up today, ready to play some monster hunter on my off day as usual!
I get settled at my computer, all nice and cozy

#First one is THE LONG series of GEESE that fly by!!! my aforementioned friends... Or I think I referenced them in tags of some post#days ago. and how I love watching them. See how many there are? And multiple of these will go by. It's like hundreds of them.#Then just the sky because I love the sky. My hair looking ridiculous as it always does when I brush it out of the four big braids I always#keep it in to keep it out of the way lol. I just find it silly how small it can be all braided up and then as soon as it is Released and#combed then it poofs into some sort of swamp dwelling wizard style.#Then... a daily word count... have been so busy the past week that I sadly haven't written much but I'm WORKING on it. Still on the blasted#'odd jobs' tasks sections which were SUPPOSED to be very quick and short. but.. alas.. Though I am on basically the last one. You go work#for one of the enchanting specialists in the city (very important in society since a majority of people cannot do that type of magic) and#basically he just works so much he has no time for a social life so he hires random people to sit with him in the afternoons doing menial#tasks. You show up thinking you'll help with some Important Job or something but hes just like 'no... peel this apple for me.. :)' lol#Edit note: arrgh just had to fish a slippery avocado pit out of a narrow garbage disposal drain with a chopstick. felt like some#sort of taskmaster challenge or something.. gods... I know some people just reach into them. I guess maybe#my hand would fit?? but... erm... scary. what about Sharp Things in there or something.. also Sludge of some sort perhaps.#ANWYAY.. interruption... I got up to go to the kitchen in the middle of typing my tags... lol..#Next image is SLEEPING boye.. Then a delightful little lemon poppyseed muffin someone didn't want and then gave to me. Which was interesting since I haven't#had one in soooo long even though its like a very Classic Flavor.. I do quite like them though now that I've had one again. :0c#Lastly.. mushrooms. I think it's the mushroom season here. Everywhere you go outside there's some new manner of fungus#having popped up from nowhere. I like the variety of all their little shapes. These in particular have an interesting wispy curled layers#sort of look to them. Almost like a shaggy hairstyle that's curled up at the ends or something. They seem neat to draw perhaps.#Okay.. that is all.. on the bright side i’ve figured out how to make auto actions in csp and made one each for a blur/noise filter and chromatic aberration. with the goal of looking like a screenshot of something from cartoon network in the 2000s
it took So Much trial and error to get the chromatic aberration to work well but once i learned that the auto action can only happen to one layer at a time i got it down pat
#it feels a little silly to say but i felt really smart while i was figuring it out#the noise effect was easy. the chromatic aberration wasn’t#auto actions only record making a new layer; changing layer modes; making correction layers; changing a layer’s settings; transforming. etc#you can’t record drawing anything or like making a fill or applying a texture unless it’s perlin noise afaik#normally to do chromatic aberration you make 3 copies of your final drawing; clip pure RGB layers to each. one red. one green. one blue#all of the values at 255 for the given color and 0 for the other 2. set the color layer to multiply. merge each with their drawing#so you have 3 layers of your drawing in R G and B#set the top 2 to screen and then start offsetting them however you like depending on how strong you want the effect to be#bwammm#to get recordable steps for auto action i had to do everything to each color layer at once#copy the drawing. so the action is COPY. new correction layer gradient map; i made 3 gradient maps that were flat R B G#like not actually maps. but that was the easiest way i could think to get a ‘fill’ in an auto action#next clip it and set it to multiply. merge. then i had to offset it w/o being able to see what it’d look like at the end#since auto actions only work on the ‘top’ layer. you can’t hop between layers. you can only work in one direction#so to make sure the aberration looked right i did a test run and counted out the pixels transformed in each direction for each color layer#like when zoomed in 4 times from base R goes up 3 left 1; B down 2 right 4. etc#so id just know how to transform each layer while i was recording the action and id get a reliable aberration with a halo i liked#the auto action doesn’t include merging everything at the end bc that scares me. so i can always just edit the offsets on each color layer#for future uses of the action. but. i like knowing i got a reliable recording of a good offset on each color#i can just make a drawing look like it came from the 2000s in 2 clicks now!#2 clicks!!! i got it!! i’ve tested it on a few drawings and it just works!! two clicks!!!#i’m proud of a lot of parts of this lineup. i might talk about it more on here or insta for funsies#i like breaking down my own art. i think a lot of technical artists do#god there’s a reason my mom thinks i should be an art teacher 😭😭😭#i talk
