Oh, like, different teas I like to make? Okay! :D

🍍Pineapple Tea🍍

The way I do it is really simple:

Buy a giant jug of already-made tea (I like gold peak!)

Buy a carton of pineapple juice

Freeze the juice into cubes, pour a little of it in the tea for extra flavor

And that's it. That's aaaall you gotta do.

There's all kindsa ways you can dress it up, but nine times out of ten I just do this and drink it by the gallon when it's hot out.

If you wanna get fancy with it, feel free to cold brew your own black (or green) tea, add actual hunks of pineapple fruit in there, add some orange juice, add some honey, add some coconut milk or sweetened condensed milk, whatever sounds good! (Also, pairing pineapple tea with coconut cookies? SO GOOD.) Put mint in the pineapple cubes if you like mint! Add a bit of boiled ginger root or some brown sugar and cinnamon for a little kick! Heck, last summer I used blue peaflower star-shaped ice cubes just because they were pretty.

(Peaflower petals don't taste like much, but they make a GORGEOUS blue, and if you put something acidic in there like lemon juice IT TURNS PINK. :D)

🍓Strawberry Tea🍓

I find this stuff sort of difficult to find where I live, so often I go the same route as the pineapple tea: grab a jug of black tea, grab a jug of strawberry juice, (ocean spray has a really nice cran-strawberry one I like) freeze the juice, mix, and enjoy. Super simple.

If I can't find strawberry juice, I dice some strawberries up and put it in a jar with some water and a bit of sugar for a few hours, then add *that* to the tea. (heck, it's really nice all by itself!)

What goes with strawberry? ANY DANG THING YOU WANT. I am particularly fond of lychee. Jasmine tea and rose petals pair really well with it too. Again, if you like mint, it's *really* nice with strawberry. And you know how if you put black pepper on strawberries they taste even strawberrier? (If you haven't tried this, go do it, it's magic.) Same goes with the tea, add some peppercorns or a teeny bit of chili powder or some ginger.

If you wanna drink it hot or cold brew a batch of your own, here are some brands that are also nice:

2. Adagio Strawberry Tea (this is also where I got the peaflower petals)

3. Any of Lupicia's Strawberry Teas they are HEAVENLY

🍏Apple Tea🍏

As with the pineapple and strawberry teas, it's totally fine to just go find some ready-made tea and mix it with some apple cider or apple juice for tasty low spoons fun. If you drink it iced, a bit of sugar and lemon juice brings out the apple flavor nicely!

I prefer drinking this stuff hot though. You know that Fall Drink post that was floating around? IF YOU HAVEN'T YET, TRY IT, IT'S AWESOME.

☕Chai Tea☕

So here's the thing about chai for me personally: I don't tend to drink it iced or sugary, but if you do like it iced and sugary, there are a couple of really nice chai tea concentrates:

Oregon Chai Latte

Tazo's Chai Latte (Forget the "skinny" nonsense, I just wanted to include an option with no milk so you can add whatever you want to it)

Pacific Chai isn't concentrated, but you can use it to make hot or iced chai and it's really lovely, not too sweet and super easy to work with. As for dressing up chai, I don't tend to! There's already so much going on with all the flavors, I just drink it as-is most days. Play with milk-to-tea ratios or sugar amounts all you like, figure out what's your jam.

I do know that mixing chai and coffee together (or chai and chocolate together) is guaranteed to make a feeling groovy kind of morning, at least if you have two thumbs and you're me. Iiii think that's all the tea blather I can think of for right now. Thank you for asking, anon, it was fun! Anybody reading this, feel free to add your own favorite things to do with tea. :D

Alejandro: Choose the pineapple chunks for very obvious reasons; i landed on strawberry for the syrup because i just looked up what flavors go well with Pineapple and it showed up. Generally a sweet, sweet sundae because he definitely has a sweet tooth he won't admit to

Axel: Variant on the Nutty Butter Blondie. The original Special Recipe is almost perfect but it was missing the bitterness Axel would particularly enjoy. She'd totally like peanut butter tho

B: Most of his sundae was chosen for the vibes™, that and i can't see him ordering big sugary stuff on the regular, but if he does he'll indulge with the caramel and honey. The birch beer toping is added specifically because he likes the flavor.

Bridgette: hers was inspired by the Ube Blue Bay as well as the Tropical Treat, the former being one of the Special Recipes with the Maui Meringue included. I gave her, Geoff and Brody similar ice creams for uh. being the polysurfer trio in my head lol

Brody: SPEAKING OF WHICH. Based off of Calypso Island Coconuts except not really. Just wanted to incorporate a bit more pink and i got a little carried away.

Courtney: Variant of the Caramel Macchiato. i simply changed it to include more brownies as a reference to Island. That, and to make this sundae even sweeter.

Dawn: Im so glad the easter holiday gives you access to this many pastel colored ingredients, because it was very easy to make Dawn's sundae that way!

Dawn would be a tiramisu and jelly beans enjoyer and you cannot convince me otherwise. because im correct

Duncan: Vaguely inspired by the sundae i have him when i drew him that one time. Lots of Mint toppings because it's green and also chocolate.

Oh, and the Birch Beer topping is just added because Duncan's a tryhard and thinks it's alcoholic or whatever. He'd do underage drinking to be cool but the only alcohol he could stomach is cider

Emma: Straight up just the Caramel Macchiato. What else would she order, really.

Geoff: Just the Tropical Treat Special Recipe. Look at it. It's him but a sundae

Heather: This sundae made me realise there's no direct lemon flavored syrup or chunks in the game, so kiwi chunks + chai syrup was the closest approximation to her order.

I also generally think her favorite holiday would be the volcano gala, mostly because the holiday outfits are so elegant and beautiful. It would appeal to her better than the others at least

Lindsay: Decided to freestyle this one!

The pink lemonade syrup was a MUST for her, she'd love it so much. In general i think she'd enjoy strawberry/cherry flavored ice creams and drizzles and such. She'd order a coffee with three pumps strawberry. to me.

I choose the Donut chunks instead of straight strawberry because it's sweeter :p

Noah: Did not realize both the characters i had chosen for both my Driver and Chef were going to be back to back due to the Alphabetical order O_O

Uh anyways! For Noah i tried coming up with the sundae that would hypothetically have the most inoffensive taste/texture, because i cannot see him liking anything more elaborate :p

Trent: Variant of the Big Top Blondie. It's an apple/banana/lemony sundae, and it's exactly the flavors he'd enjoy. Shame you can't control the numbers that come out of the new years shaker tho, so i had to resort to the 7s.

Tyler: Another freestyle! Generally landed on something that included biscuits and the cereal shaker topping since i do think Tyler would like those alot. Also she can share with Lindsay since it's large :D

They’re kicked back in Adirondacks by the fire circle, the logs popping and sparking when the flames lick dried sap. The air is just crisp enough to make the heat cozy. Scully brought home cider donuts from the farm stand along her commute, which they wash down with a pitcher of sangria. A cinnamon-sugar crust coats her lips.

It’s been two minutes since he asked her and she hasn’t answered.

“So?” he prods, nudging her foot with his. “It’s been long enough all the sin’s gone out of it, Dana Katherine. Fess up, did you experiment some in college? I’ll absolve you if you did.”

He puts the lewdest possible edge on “experiment” so that she can’t in good faith make a quip about organic chemistry or the effects of acetylcholine on Rana pipiens.

Scully flops her head back against the heavy wooden chair; who cares at this point? The meanest nuns are dead. “Yeah,” she says. “I did.”

She turns to him for a reaction

His eyebrows are up, but he looks genuinely interested rather than smirking. “Oh? Do tell.”

She stares up at the rising column of smoke, tracks it to Polaris. Tracks it decades back. “This girl, Elizabeth. Roommate’s boyfriend’s sister. We…um. We all went out to a bar one night while she was visiting.”

Scully leans into the memory. Calgon and ski sweaters and Aqua Net. Layered bangs, Jordache jeans. Liz’s rum and Coke.

Liz’s hazel eyes, Liz’s blue mascara.

“Anyway. We all had a lot to drink and Claire - that was my roommate - Claire and Elizabeth’s brother were making out in his Cutlass Ciera.”

Liz’s mouth like a taut August plum, the taste of her frosted Revlon lips…

“There was this couch in the back of the bar, some coffee tables, you know the feeling. Anyway, Liz pulled me over. We’d been dancing some, Fleetwood Mac I think, and she kissed me. I was shocked, good Catholic girl that I was. But I was three shots in, and it was college, you know? We settled on the couch, kind of drunk I guess….”

She swallows hard, looks at Mulder. “Is this weird? It seems kind of weird.”

He shakes his head, eyes bright in the flames. “Go on.”

“We were kissing, mostly. She touched my breasts through my shirt, slipped her hands down my jeans but not my underwear. It was pretty innocent, I don’t know. I didn’t see her again after that but it definitely changed my perspective some. I began noticing if I found a woman attractive. Got at least a bit more comfortable with the idea, anyway. Stopped telling myself I just liked her hair or her outfit.”

She hears his breathing thicken. Just a little, but it’s there.

“And never after?” he asks.

Scully wonders what else he isn’t asking her. Wonders what it must be like to be young now. She shakes her head, takes a pull of sangria. Chews a chunk of macerated pineapple.

“No,” she says. “I came close a couple of times, but no.”

She wishes she had a cigarette or a joint. Something to do with her hands and her mouth even after so many years. And even after so many years she doesn’t tell him about what she thought of Esther Nairn, about whether she wanted to kill Diana or be Diana or fuck Diana.

They watch the fire for a time. Hear it crackle, gaze into a vast and endless sky. There are old gods there, older than hers. She knows that now. She embraces it.

“What about you?” Scully asks. “All those posh Eton boys at Oxford, surely one struck your fancy.”

She doesn’t really expect anything of it, but she asks to make him confirm or deny. To deflect. It’s how she’s been trained. And she’s endlessly intrigued by his formative years, her well-bred, prep-school lover. They’d practically invented sodomy, hadn’t they?

Mulder makes a soft, throaty noise. Grabs a donut and takes a huge bite.

She turns to him. “Oh my god,” she says. “Did you sleep with Alex Krycek?” Where had THAT come from?

He coughs donut crumbs everywhere. “Scully!”

She clamps on to it. “Did you?”

His turn for the sangria now, blushing. Blushing! Fox Mulder, did you really? she thinks, oddly turned on.

Mulder clears his throat. “He kissed me, but no. He kissed me twice, actually. But no, I didn’t…” he trails off, shaking his head.

“Did you like it?” she asks, her voice sex and sandpaper. Arousing herself further, Jesus.

“Yes,” he says. Holds her stare. Runs his tongue over the lips she’s kissed so many times. That Alex Krycek and Diana Fowley had kissed. The sting is gone, only the fascination left.

All the sin’s gone out of it, he’d said. Yes, it had. Over fifty, of course it had.

“But it wasn’t your first time.” A little breathless, that.

“No.” Licks his lips again. “You guessed right, Agent Scullly, brava. This guy, at uni…we. We didn’t sleep together, but we’d. You know. Touch.”

Agent Scully.

The father of her child looks unimaginably shy. “Ourselves. Each other.”

She knows about Phoebe, all the details. She knows about the cemetery and the gothic drama and the kind of sex that feels like a revelation instead of a mind game.

He knows about Daniel. She sees the child she was then, has long since forgiven the silly girl.

But this is different and, in her mind, sweet. Two boys, lonely, away from home. She hopes they were comforted. Happy.

“Did you…keep up with him?”

I love that my body naturally craves fruit that is in season. I have been wanting pineapple and I checked and pineapple is in season. Went to the grocery store and found a perfectly ripe pineapple for half off, $1.50 for a whole pineapple! Took it home, cut it up ,and used the rind and core to make tecpache with a Thai pepper tossed in. yum!

Last night my friend took me to a mushroom growing workshop that she got free tickets to. The person leading the workshop asked what our relationship to mushroom is on a scale of 1-10. he said he was an 8, because he knew people who were 10s. Which probably scared all of us and and most people said they were 1s or 2s. I've usually stayed away from fancy mushroom because it seems like another expensive taste I did not need to have. I've stuck more to fermenting (sourdough, sauerkraut, half sour pickles, fermented hot sauces, beer, wine, cider) so this was a fun workshop to learn more how to do it myself.

The guy leading it was very very into mushrooms but not particularly organized and kept having to backtrack to explain things. That's my nightmare of teaching and why I don't. i worry about my organizational skill not meshing with the people I'm teaching and then getting really frustrated, which never actually happens, when I'm teaching informally it goes well whether it is zines or witchcraft or plants or whatever. I just freak out when people want to pay for my disorganized thoughts. Anyway, enough about me.

We pasteurized straw and packed it into buckets with oyster mushroom inoculated grains. Now I have a bucket of fungus I'm waiting to pin and sprout and whatever. He also just brought a bucket of woodchips from his yard with king stropharia (wine cap) mushrooms and just told us to take a bag home and toss in in your garden, don't eat them for more than 2 days in a row, and when you have too many, give them away to people. The wine caps seem more my speed, we'll see how it goes.

I have so many plants I want to put outside! It's still too cold at night and I'm very annoyed about it. the tomatoes in my living room are starting to put out flowers. I think I can hold off for another week.

Grey Foxes generally eat small mammals, birds, and wild local fruits. Persimmons and Grapes and other wild fruits are a common treat. But their FAVORITE treats are eggs of all kinds. So let me see what I can come up with! I also tried to keep this as texture safe as I can -- most of them don't have competing textures, and those that do can be easily augmented to not have as many!

Crock Pot Rabbit Stew (if the chunks of rabbit are small enough, they'll be as melty and soft as the carrots and potatoes!)

Gamekeeper's Pie (if you find mashed potatoes don't work, roughly chunking the potatoes will get you a similar consistency to the filling~!)

Garlic Chicken with Herbs (I almost always use garlic paste or powder cause I don't like the texture of whole garlic cloves)

Squab with Mushrooms and Pears (I would make these portabello mushrooms instead and do a roasted pear, to keep the textures similar to each other)

Pigeon Pies with Bramble Gravy (skip the cabbage and pancetta, used chunked parsnips and smaller chunked pigeon, to keep a similar flavor profile but more consistent texture)

20 Minute Mushroom Chicken (again, use portabello mushrooms, probably halved or quartered, to keep textures similar)

Pineapple Ginger Chicken Stir-Fry (If you can get or make Pulled or Shredded Chicken for this, it'll come out with perfectly paired textures!! Otherwise much smaller chicken bites will come out as soft as the pineapples)

Soft Boiled and Jammy Eggs! (I prefer Jammy for texture, but soft boiled is good for dipping toast into)

Poached Egg and Cod (Tenderizing the cod in advance with something like this will make it much softer and not clash as much with the poached white. The yolk makes a creamy sauce that helps make the cod a lot creamier, too)

Easy Grape Sorbet

Mulled Grape Cider

Broiled Persimmons with Mascarpone (though any mild, creamy cheese works! Try the persimmons alone first to see what texture will go best!)

I was just hungry af... ngl like going to an event yesterday after work drained me sooo much. I basically had less than an hour when I got home b4 I had to go again... and I just made sure I ate and got ready and changed and then I had to go and maybe if the place wasn't so far away... but the hour long drive felt so long bc it was raining really hard and I was in a place idk and I could barely see the road so I was all stressed and tense lol. show was really fun, it was at a brewery so there were like ppl just there for that and families bc it was an all ages free benefits show. but there was a decent amt of people there for the show and we were all just kinda crowded in the center of the place. band I went to see was great ive prob seen them 4-5x now. and then there was a Greensboro band that was good but probably not rly my thing but I liked their energy. and then the last band I really liked, I've seen their name around but I didn't know who they were and ive also seen the band members at other local shows. I had one cider.. it was mid tbh like it was fine but it was 8$ 😭with tip. I was originally gonna get a mango pineapple cider but they were out so then I just got an apple one. oh also it was raining so hard and I had to park in the back and it was far away and I stepped in a bunch of puddles and my big ass jeans dragged in the water and the wind broke my umbrella also. felt kinda weird cuz I was there alone and bc it was a much smaller environment it just felt more obvious... which is fine but I wish i was more normal abt talking to ppl I just dk how lol. and everyone knows each other and is with their groups etc. but it was still fun nd im glad I went.. I loved writing the surprise birthday party in this for many reasons. for one thing it felt natural after I wrote about wilbur throwing tommy a birthday party in nocturnal animals, and also I wrote honey and tangerines over the course of the summer. in a way that timeline of tangerines followed real time, because I wrote the wilbur surprise birthday party in mid to late september which is roughly around cc!wilbur's actual bday (yes yes I know he could be lying about his birthday but it's the one we all go with) so it just felt very fitting time-wise

Forgot about the food aspects of this blog for past few posts so here are some theme-related novelties/ideas on my mind, writing them down before reorganizing blog. Top four kitchen appliances—

大同電鍋 （tatungdianguo) - one of the great culinary appliances of the past century, these ol’ reliable electric steam-cookers are a staple of immigrant Taiwanese families. Known for cooking rice and for their simplicity, they are famous especially for their versatility and dependability, and rightfully so—I hope to write a story about it someday. I use mine daily and we’ve probably had the same ones since I was in diapers; I imagine it shall be heirloom which I pass onto successors in my dying breath in diapers again. Mine graduated with a degree in ‘Indestructibility’ from Nokia University and doesn’t have the word ‘shower’ in its vocabulary. I don’t even own a microwave, I just try to innovate ways to steam-cook my way through everything. 10/10.

Vitamix blender - another worthwhile appliance that has paid dividends well beyond initial investment. It is incredible how versatile these things are, besides making smoothies. But it is the simple joys that really shine—for example, i blend apples and pumpkin spice for a holiday cider-like drink, or black sesame with oatmilk for a rich-flavored exquisite treat. Or chocolate and strawberries and ice. Or mango or pineapple and orange juice. Without my blender I daresay fruits and veggies are dangerously nonexistent in my diet.

instant pot - i love the idea of what these do, I hope to write a story about one someday. I admire one-pot cooking ideas for their elegance and utility. Bonus points for air-locked lid and dual-layer stainless steel containment, in case you need to cut off air supply to whatever radioactive/eldritch creature you’ve accidentally summoned. Most likely our quest will end with using one to make chili with some tomato-peanut butter stew base.

Egg sandwich maker - recently got one. Can’t wait to test it out. I spend way too much money on egg sandwiches/wraps/burritos for brunch.

Bonus: i’ve given up my brewing machine for some surprisingly quality/excellent valued instant coffee from Anthony’s—tastes great and can’t believe how long a single $20 bag is lasting…

man I hurt my hip somehow last night doing NOTHING but sitting and drinking pineapple hard cider and also I slept like shit (probably because of the pineapple hard cider). I’ve been so fucking fatigued today and I skipped breakfast and as a result have felt even worse. I barely got thru work and I didn’t have much to do at all. 😭 also I have to wake up early and go get my glucose/cholesterol tested and I’m nervous for what the results will be. I feel like I’ve eaten a LOT better in the past few weeks but that doesn’t erase a few years of poor diet/little exercise.

Headed up to Hamilton for the James Street Supercrawl. South Grand Island bridge down to one lane, so traffic backed up a few miles to Fantasy Island. Took River Road home.

Hit The Ship for lunch. The burgers have breadcrumbs in them, so I got the cheddar / pineapple burger as grilled chicken on a GF bun. But the cider was good!

Then got a cafe nieto (tiny hot Vietnamese sweetened coffee) at Steeltown Garage.

Apple Cider: What was your relationship with your F/O before you got together romantically? How did it change once you got together, and what were the most significant changes? (Also, what’s your F/O’s favorite flavor of juice? What’s your S/I’s?)

Blue and I were not close at all as kids. (I thought he was an asshole, and I was right.) As we got older and he got better, we became friends. By the time we got together, we were already really close. But from then on, I got to kiss him and hold his hand whenever I wanted (incredibly based).

In universe, his favorite juice is mago and mine is pinap. irl, his is mango and mine is pineapple.

Paper Bag: Are you and/or your F/O daydreamers or do you tend to stay focused the moment?

For me, I’m definitely a daydreamer. It even sometimes distracts me while I’m doing important things. For Blue, it depends on what he’s doing. He’s good at focusing when it’s needed, but he daydreams a lot when he’s alone and not doing anything important.

Espresso: Which one of you hears about anything the other one wants and immediately gets it for them? (Or is it both/neither of you?)

Both, but in different ways. I’m very clear about “OH I CAN GET THAT/DO THAT FOR YOU!!!”, while he has a little bit of a different way of doing it. Like if I say I want mangoes, he’ll go out and grab some, then claim that he needed to go out and groceries anyway (he literally only bought the mangoes).

Speaking of the baseline energy levels being through the floor after that last virus bout, I also had the sense to add a couple of frozen ready meals to today's grocery order:

Obviously went very Swedish here, with a couple of options I hadn't tried at all before. We've got Dafgärd's rendition of the suitably odd mid-20th century classic "Flying Jacob", along with the frankly more promising sounding kålpudding--which is a Swedish take on lazy cabbage rolls, with the ingredients layered together and baked instead of wrapped up. Keep meaning to try making some myself.

No idea how much I will like either of these, but I do sort of look forward to finding out. Much better than just not eating like I have been doing way too often lately when food is too hard.

Neither one is explicitly labeled as GF, but there are no gluten ingredients or possible cross-contamination traces listed. Which IME is good enough here. Much easier to trust labeling than in the UK, when more things contain no gluten ingredients and there are likely no obvious sources of contamination in, say, that whole meatball production area. It really is SO much easier to find GF-by-default food here, besides the larger amount of labeled stuff. And I have yet to get sick off any of it. They do seem to take trace allergen labeling pretty seriously. *fingers crossed*

Anyway, on a rather different note, here's another somewhat dubious treat from the grocery order:

More fuel for hooching experiments! In the back, we've got wild strawberry and nectarine-apple juice drinks. In the drink concentrate row up front there's more of the weird peach iced tea concentrate (which turned out surprisingly good before), along with some pineapple-passionfruit and more just plain cheapo apple juice.

I've been enjoying sipping on different flavored easy "ciders", so may as well run with that and try some more options. Though I was also considering doing some kind of mashup batch using a carton of the peach quasi-tea and the nectarine-apple stuff together. It's the equivalent of maybe $2 wasted if it turns out undrinkable. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
