There are police sirens going WILD. Do y'all know what's going on?

*It's still dark outside n Darry moves slowly, not of the mind to wake up the rest of the house n the entire production that comes with it quite yet. He retrieves the first aid kid from under the kitchen sink, pausin only to pull a rag n wet it. Last night's dishes still pile on the counter n he sighs.*

*Faintly, far across town, the sirens continue. He tries to ignore them. Doesn't want to think about what must've kept them out all night. When he returns to the room, Tim n Dallas haven't moved, bashed knuckles n the backs of bloody hands pressed together. Darry doesn't say anythin, just maneuvers them to sit on the edge of the bed, begins with Dallas, wipin blood away gently, lookin for wounds.*

*For a long moment there's silence. Except for the faint wail of the sirens. The early mornin sunrise blushes through the curtains slowly n both Tim n Dallas turn to watch, exchange looks Darry can't read.*

'Is someone dead?' *He finally asks. Bluntly. Cause they're runnin out of time.*

*Dallas n Tim's eyes meet again n Dallas moves, ever so minutly, so that their knees touch. The silence stretches.*

'We don't know.'

i realize this looks finished, but technically i'm still deciding whether to add a background or not lol. still, for the sake of sharing a proper WIP, here's a line or two from an araleyn brainworm WIP that i started reworking yesterday (mild tw for religious guilt and period-typical internalized homophobia from aragon's pov):

She remembers sharing her bed with Anne at Henry's behest, remembers the nights of tossing and turning and trying not to think about Anne asleep next to her-- remembers waking up to dark hair spilling across her pillow and the press of blood-warm bosoms against her own, softer than sin, as hot as the Devil, remembers lying still as death, mouthing prayers into the heat of Anne's neck like an act of penance.

I noticed Sakura's going into blue (is that the right term?) and I remember her and Scoria shedded together before. Is that a coincidence, or do hognoses typically shed at similar times through the year? Does it have anything to do with them being cohab?

I believe so! I think "going into blue" happens before the shed, where fluid goes into the space between their eye scale and eye so it will come off more easily without hurting them.

One of the weird things about hognoses is they don't shed at regular intervals, it isn't exactly monthly or anything. From what I heard some reptiles do this consistently (I don't have the details on this, I mostly just know hognoses, snake basics, and a little about leopard geckos), but hognoses don't seem consistent. At least not based on time or specific growth.

My girls sometimes sync up on their sheds, but not always. I think it's more than a coincidence at this point, but think more people's experience to factor in would help. I know with my leopard geckos, after they get a little more calcium than usual (food dusting) they tend to go into shed. So it's possible my girls sharing the same diet, and dusting, contributed to this.

It's also possible that living together they might sync each other, perhaps in a similar way to how mammals go into heat at the same time. While I understand going into heat has benefits, I'm not sure the benefit going into shed at the same time. They do like to brumate together and have someone to cuddle with, so perhaps having a cuddle buddy when they aren't feeling great might be a benefit. Scoria will go out of her way to stay with Sakura even when she isn't in shed. They're so sweet like that.

Anyway I'd love to hear from others who have noticed factors relating to their snakes shedding, whether they have twenty or just one little buddy. The only other thing I can think of is Sakura will shed around a growth spurt, though I don't see a correlation to the syncing of their sheds.

Do you think Dr. Seward cares about you? Like as if he would prefer not to harm you. Like kinda in a weird friendship way. Where he’s your superior but he maybe doesn’t want to be.

Considering what he told me in my previous entry? No.

Dr. Seward does not come off as somebody who holds care in their heart for me. To him, I am… interesting. Yes, it is not care that drives him, but interest.

He interacts with me like I'm a puzzle for him to solve. There is always something driving his questions, something that he wants to prove to himself or to me. At times I become aware of what results he desires, and purposefully steer the conversation away from it. The disappointment on his face is worth it. When I prove to be difficult, as such, he does as any man with a plaything would, and either gives up on me or brutes his way to the solution.

Perhaps my doctor would prefer not to harm me, and you're correct, but that does not change the fact that he has threatened it and acted upon it. In his own professional way, of course. He does not strike me as the type who'd get into a physical fight, at least not for enjoyment. I would not try to get into a brawl with him to test that hypothesis, because I am aware there are far worst things he could do to me than hit me back.

We are not friends, in any way. I have shared plenty of mundane moments with him, of course! We've walked the gardens, talked about simple things, and even had a brandy once. Still, I do not see him as my friend, and I am awfully certain that he does not see me as one. He is my doctor, and I am his patient.

What would that say about him? If he befriended a "madman"? Surely the man would like to keep his sanity and his power. If I was suddenly his friend, then what'd make him better than the rest of the patients? He'd be labeled as mad, after all, wouldn't he!

It would benefit me if Seward did truly care about me, like you're suggesting. I would be able to do much more. However, I cannot see the doctor caring for me any more than I care for my pets.

He is pleasant at times. If he was always unpleasant then I wouldn't try to appeal to him. No, he can be reasonable- or, that is, persuaded. I can play along to his fantasy that he is the genius doctor that is getting to the core of me. I can play along to his desire of feeling like God. I can, if it gets me what I want: lives, more time outside, extra meals, some privacy, and such. In return, he gets what he wants: me.

I am his favourite patient, after all.

I am his favourite, not out of care, but what I assume to be madness. I have intrigued Dr. Seward in a way that I hadn't intended to. Am I so unlike the common madman? Are my desires that complex? Something draws him to me, and if he wasn't as stubborn as he is, he'd encourage my plots for the sake of his sciences.

There, is that what you wanted to hear? Me being kind about him? Am I allowed to be honest now, Anonymous stranger?

Seward makes me feel like I'm some new specimen, to be put under a microscope and be examined. To be pricked and prodded at, until he's satisfied or I lash out. Though, even that might please him.

I can feel his eyes bore into me when I answer his blasted questions, as if they're trying to look into my very soul. It makes me want to tear my skin off. He asks and stares, and does his awful tests, and administers medication to me that - half the time - I don't even know the name of. I tell you, he thinks he's better than me!! He must think so, they all do.
