THE PEOPLE YEARN FOR BPD TENNA!!!!

genuinely the more i started playing the more and more i was like. oh this guy so has borderline personality disorder. like he's PEAK bpd representation to me. im gonna whip out the DSM-5 requirements just to list it to the letter but i also might talk about more variable things / not necessarily "standard" symptoms too because im just. auauuugh he checks so many boxes

Frantic efforts to avoid real or perceived abandonment - this is like a huge one. i probably don't need to elaborate on this but i will anyway. a huge thing with his entire character is that consistently, he believes he will be abandoned, even when it realistically isn't happening and in fact even if he was gonna be left behind kris and susie TOTALLY would've brought him back to castle town regardless (in a standard "recruit everyone" route anyway). he lumps on more and more rounds of TV time in hopes that he won't be thrown aside. he keeps toriel asleep and as a grand prize because he believes even before everyone shows up that it's the only way to really get them to stay. he doesn't intend genuine harm and isn't malicious, he just earnestly DESPERATELY thinks that if he doesn't have attention always then it means he's going to go back to collecting dust. he literally traps kris, susie, and ralsei in gachapon spheres and makes sure they won't leave him all while rapidly switching between depression and hyped-up frenzied behavior over it. like. come on. it even extends to his employees, who he threatens to fire or actually fires and then frequently goes back on because he doesn't want to be left alone. he can't handle it. why does everyone leave?

A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation - i think we mostly see this with how tenna views kris and susie. he clearly values kris a lot and speaks highly of them, but while he does think well of them, he thinks they like. hate him. because of how they stopped paying any attention to the TV. this is shown in his convo with susie, where he says he loves kris but doesn't know if they love TV. but he's pretty flippant on this, honestly? he cares about them throughout the whole chapter, yes, but he clearly goes back and forth on thinking of himself as someone they hate and who is clearly obsolete tech to then accusing them of abandonment and begging to know why they won't just pay mind to him. similar case with susie, where he very obviously idolizes her and thinks super well of her for using the TV after so long - he themes an entire minigame after what he thinks she likes! - but then harshly pivots to accusing her of wanting to leave and thinking she doesn't care at all about him. plus the entire "I LOVE TV" saga during his huge breakdown? like... come on. you cannot look at his downward spiral from being content with it to believing the three are lying to him and don't really mean it and say that isn't such a BPD "do you hate me?" spiral. I Get It

Identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self - this can mostly be tied in with his kind of fickle personality methinks. he presents himself as larger than life, even literally changing his size and such depending on his mood and how he perceives himself in the moment. but again during his breakdown while the team is in the gacha capsules or even just in general we see how swiftly he pivots from beating down on himself or apologizing to viewing himself as a tv host who just needs to keep performing. he is so volatile with how much he views himself as like... a living entity. he sees himself as an object, as junk, something to be thrown away, but he's also THE ant tenna and he's worthy of so much stardom and everyone should be honored to be here! both ideas coexist but also don't. he doesn't know how to see himself ever

Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging - this is the one i don't really see him having much canonically so we can skim over it. i def have some headcanons but as it is in canon he's not impulsive in the regards this point addresses. however,

Recurrent suicidal behaviour, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behaviour - THIS i think we have some legs to stand on. it isn't precisely the same thing but we see how willing he is to guilttrip and overall shrink himself down (literally and metaphorically) just in hopes of not being thrown aside. i think he even insinuates he'll basically just rot there and he talks about having mike tear everything tenna loves (albeit it's likely made up stuff but tbh that contributes to the point im) down just because the show might be ending. like it isn't exactly in line with this qualifier, sure, but i don't think it's much of a stretch to say his overexaggerated behaviors and guilt tripping to make sure he's not abandoned are pretty close without obviously making the game cross into some higher ESRB rating numbers lmao.

Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood - this is another huge one. again, we see how volatile tenna's moods are and how quickly he flips between being really hostile and angry (for both justified and very much unjustified / irrational reasons) to being sweet and doting and sympathetic. i keep citing his big breakdown but it's just a really good example -- he goes from being hyped up and angry and all but scheming just to keep the three around, but in between he starts feeling guilty and ashamed and apologizing for arbitrary things or feeling shame about fighting before swinging right back into his irritable state. during his final fight he goes back and forth on things constantly too, asking for things to be cut from the final recording or simply just warbling between being angry and being really upset and then being his normal showtime-y self again. his moods never seem to last for very long which is another part of this criteria. he goes super quickly between these emotions and there's not much good reason for it oftentimes

Chronic feelings of emptiness - again i think this loops in with his feelings of being junk or obsolete tech. its mentioned that (who is implied to be) spamton was going to teach him about newer technology to help him make it big but never did, and tenna seems Really Terrified deep down that without it he's basically nothing. he clings to people in hopes they'll give him purpose, something to fill himself with -- if he just finds the right place then he won't feel so empty and alone and without anything inside him. but it never gets better and the audience isn't enough. if he distracts himself with the show then he doesn't need to think about it, but when the show starts dying down he just kind of becomes despondent. he begs to be loved but when it stops filling his heart up he lashes out again. he just doesn't feel like there's anything in there if someone else isn't making a hole and burrowing inside him and making it all better

Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger - i went over this in some earlier bullets but yeah. he gets very arbitrarily angry over various things, like enemies using ACTs without his permission or perceived wrongdoing / abandonment even when it isn't there. and he clearly does Bad at hiding it given how his employees seem to gauge him along with just what we see in general of him interacting with employees. ily tenna but you are NOT a good manager during chap 3

Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms - this can be tied into his other stuff about abandonment and feeling empty / without an identity. his constant phone calls about toriel and paranoia about her waking up is one thing but even outside of that specific instance he's clearly like. constantly on edge and scared of Something. if anyone indicates he might not be genuinely entertaining he freezes and freaks out - see his reaction to ralsei calling his show "old news," for instance. he clearly has some real bad and volatile triggers for his paranoia and any indication he may not be as relevant as he posits himself to be makes him fucking LOSE IT

in general . idfk man i love tenna. he's so clearly distressed and doesnt believe theres a place for him even though post-chapter 3 hes Trying to think it. im sure king making a joke of him in that one scene didnt make it any better either considering how much he fawns when the king laughs at him getting hurt. i need him to know he is wanted :(

i've been thinking about exactly why people portraying one of the other crew members successfully killing Jimmy as a "for what you did to Anya" kind of thing rubs me the wrong way a bit and it's because like..... this is just another form of taking agency away from Anya, in a way. it's kind of framing her as some meek, shivery woman-thing who's entirely at the mercy of the men around her, either to hurt her or save her.

(i understand these are mostly for wish fulfillment on the audience's behalf because everyone would like to see Jimmy pay for his crimes. whether or not this is the intention of the person writing it isn't really relevant, characterization happens with or without intent. i feel like it misses the point by portraying it as an 'ideal ending'.)

because... Anya is a capable person. she takes things into her own hands when she can. it was partially(?) her idea to get into the cargo,

(before he interrupts her.. remember when she interrupted Curly in the dead pixel segment?)

it was her idea to get the code scanner from the cockpit,

it was her idea to get the medication from behind the foam.

(the chance to do these things herself is not given to her.)

she'd been keeping Curly alive for months in a critical state somehow, her psych evaluations at the start are only so useless because Jimmy refuses to take it/her seriously and Curly is obviously biased when he puts it into his own hands. he's known him a long time, like he said. "I'll just put good for that one."

there's not a lot of material to work with because of how the game is framed, but it's there. we are working with two very biased perspectives and neither one lends Anya what she deserves

there's significant changes in how she speaks post- and pre- crash, and depending on who she happens to be talking to. i recommend re-reading her dialogue, because the difference is drastic

she acts the way she does around Jimmy because he has tangibly done horrible things to her, is actively hostile, and physically could not escape him by any means. she can't take away Curly's agency herself, in my eyes. you have to remember that Especially in the post-crash segments of the game, it's entirely from Jimmy's POV, and he obviously does not (and has never) thought very highly of her or treated her with a shred of respect

i've seen a general idea that she can't bear to hurt other people for any reason, but that doesn't really track to me. this is the real point of the post by the way

it seems based on the parts where she says she struggles to give Curly medication. "It just hurts him so much, I can't stand the noise." "It makes me nauseous."

it's not really the same thing as, say, hurting someone in self defense

this sounds like she did want the gun itself. this never felt worded like someone who would refuse to, at very least, threaten Jimmy with a gun, with violence. if she had been given the agency to make that decision on her own. she wasn't though

she still tries to reclaim some of it even as she's denied it

by the end she's still trying to keep that gun out of his hands

i think some people overly soften her, for similar reasons the game itself is trying to comment on. she's not a tender victim who couldn't cause pain to another out of the softness of her soul, she's a person who's had every last bit of agency ripped from her repeatedly until she couldn't take it anymore. that's the point. that's why framing her that way, "needing" someone to save her, is odd to me

she didn't need Curly to save her, she needed him to take responsibility

she didn't want to escalate things, but she's not an idiot. self defense was absolutely on her mind

hes the one carrying you after you fall and hurt your ankle, will take him a minute to pick you up- wants to access the damage before moving you, does not want to make it worse if he can help it

regardless of if he holds you bridal style or on his back, hell he might even just sling you over his shoulder, hes going to be power walking to somewhere safer if theres immediate danger or risk nearby

dont try to fight him, hes going to carry you home if he needs to- will keep a firm hold on you so you dont fall onto the ground and get hurt even worse

gets the job done whereas the others will try to get your mind off of the pain and talk to you- though thats mostly due to masky just... generally not talking all that much

TICCI TOBY

hes the one being carried around, similar to jeff hes going to try to walk it off... though its not so much a pride thing as it is him not fully realizing the extent of his injuries

does not know how to feel about being carried around but hes not going to squirm around or protest, as long as youre not struggling to move him around- the second you show any struggle hes going to start insisting you dont need to do this

will be thinking about this for a few weeks, long after hes recovered, because you went out of your way to give him a hand when he didnt ask for you to do so

will find a way to subtly repay you even if he doesnt need to, it makes him feel weird to not do something in return. and thats on not being used to having kind things done for you

JEFF

the only way he would let you pick him up is if hes hurt and cant walk on his own- and even then hes going to be pouting about it... may even try to walk it off which may or not make his injuries worse

tries to make you go different routes to make sure no one sees you carrying him around

grumbling the entire time until you set him down somewhere safe in order to treat his wounds, will attempt to walk by himself again

this man has an ago and he hates the idea of being vulnerable, even if he physically cannot do something on his own

doesnt take it out on you, for the most part- even if hes in a sour mood hes not going to say cruel things to you.. if anything hes hissing about the events that lead to him getting hurt

LAUGHING JACK

hes the one carrying you, hopefully youre not too terribly afraid of heights! even being a little hunched over, jack is... very large.. does his best not to sling you around, he may not be the most gentle but hes... doing his best to change that, especially since youre hurt!

your hands rest on his shoulders- the feathers... things.. he wears are a lot softer than they look- he keeps a hold on your legs... or ankles, depending on how tall you are

his hair is totally in your face though, so its not often you let him carry you around...

behold, psychoklok! these goobers are a silly psychonauts/metalocalypse au i've been rotating in my head for almost a year now. less focused on psychonauts characters but more on dethklok, and how their lives would be changed if they were psychic/in the psychonauts universe, and had to deal with all this in their 30s-40s (yeah, their powers would get more intense as the metalocalypse dawns) while charles (also psychic) has to frantically yet hesitantly consider getting the actual psychonauts involved after their mental health declines/spirals out of control post-aotd. much fun!

nathan's good with a few things like psi-punch and mental connection, the latter being how he gets so many of his ideas. his thought train's slowed down now that he's a rich sheltered asshole, though. you'll notice some of their powers have little brackets next to them, and it's because i only think they'll realise they have these powers later in their story, like nathan and his very powerful hydrokinesis. surely that's not a sign of anything at all.

murderface isn't too varied in the psychic department. all of his self-hatred over the years has formed into a very, Very powerful form of blastokinesis though, and he make does very well with how he uses this (who am i kidding, he's using psi-blast to blow up squirrels and frogs and piss off the others) despite his insecurities about knowing only one power. well! good news willy! you're gonna get some command over ice post-salacia possession! surely you won't have complicated feelings about that at all!!!!!!!!

skwisgaar skwigelf is truly taller than a tree here!!! directly contrary to how cold she acts, she's unusually adept with pyrokinesis. which could mean nothing. she's familiar with clairvoyance, she sees the others like this--

(old doodle from like a year ago lol back at the conception of psychoklok, with an example of clairvoyance views from the psychonauts wiki for context on how it works with characters) --with them being extensions of their instruments they play in the band, nothing else, because she's keen on seperating herself from them and insisting theyre just bandmates. girl you live in the same house together. and yeah, toki's guitar looks beat up and stupid for a reason, she's not subtle. despite this, she's sort of insecure too, hence the clairvoyance, she thinks a lot about how people see her, especially in regards to her no.1 guitarist schtick. if you havent noticed, skwisgaar is a woman to me and i use exclusively she/her with her btw. #transgenderism

pickles looks like a pickle on purpose, yeah. it was just too easy! he used to use his telepathy for much cooler things (or sneakier things, like stealing beer as a teen) but now he mostly uses it for grabbing beer bottles that are out of arms reach while he sits on the couch watching tv, or pissing people off. depends on the day. pickles is probably one of the only people in the world who can regularly lace their weed with psitanium, and not suffer a total mental collapse, for some reason. how he works is unknown. the adverse effects of the psitanium consumage is that he's starting to float everrrr so slightly off the ground, but its more apparent with his floaty hair. (which i plan to resemble octopus limbs more, so im keeping his visible shitty white guy dreads down to 8, like 8 octopus legs!) he's silly, i love drawing his lanky ass.

toki seems pretty much the same, but he's very insistent that psychics arent a good thing. ...despite being a (repressed) psychic himself. it's a lore-piece that ive elaborated on in another drawing, but suffice to say, with the parents he has, him being psychic wouldn't end very well. i think he and loboto have a few things to talk about. (notice his head scar. hm...) anyway, his death curse manifests as precognition in this au, once that repressed power begins to unleash itself, toki becomes all to aware of all the death surrounding himself and the band. oh the tragedy! oh, and rockzo isnt a character in this au (because i hate him) but rather a figure from toki's imagination as a child manifested as mental projection, more like an imaginary friend which embodies him impulsivity and things he couldnt have as a kid. he came back after toki got his dad killed as a method of toki coping by being impulsive and shit, now he drinks vodka at 6 in the morning as urged by his little paper clown friend. this rockzo serves in furthering tokis character development only, once toki finally lets go of him and what he stands for (impulsive self destructive habits to cope) thats him gone forever. because iiii donttt likkeee himmm...

psychonauts is a really fun series to work with for aus and character stuffs because the games are just so lovely, i've even got a whole doc focused on what i think their mental worlds would look like! nathan explosion and his mental blood ocean and toki wartooth with the horrors of his icy past.. would love to draw some memory vaults for them sometime!

Yes, most of the explicit compliments on her appearance are made when she is gender conforming = clean and in a dress (at Acorn Hall and the Peach). Yet there are also a couple of positive comments made when she was simply herself (by Eddard and the Kindly man).

BUT I ask you, when else should she have received compliments on her look? Arya spends most of her time on page looking like a malnourished, dirty, flea-ridden, rag-wearing child with a bad haircut. It goes without saying that she gets positive comments mostly when she is clean and well dressed.

While most "today" people wouldn't even take note of a woman in pants, for a Westerosi this is super gnc. “Our world” is not a gender blind utopia, BUT it's doesn't have the super strict gender roles of Westeros.

Not sure I understand the question. Being considered ugly is not only about how you dress or act. Sure it plays a role, but the way your face and body look usually do too. Because they are not so easy to change, especially in a world that hasn’t invented cosmetic surgery yet.

I dont usually send asks, mostly cause im shy and don’t know what to say lol, but I wanted to share my appreciation for your Kendratello AU, cause it’s helped me recognize a toxic relationship in my own life.

I’ve never been a victim to SA or anything of the likes, so I can’t say I’ve been EXACTLY in Donnie’s place, but something that unsettled me early on when reading your AU was how…NICE Kendra would seem when alone with Donnie.

In a lot of media, especially in the media I saw growing up, the manipulative antagonist almost always had very obvious tells that show they’re evil when interacting with the victim. Maybe they’re talking about committing a very clearly villainous deed, keep the protagonist prisoner, something like that. But Kendra didn’t. Well, not always.

Kendra destroyed Donnie from the foundation up, and then rebuilt him back up to be who she wanted him to be, would punish him but then spin the situation around to be his own fault, but the rest of the time she would seem kind.

Only recently have I realized that someone very close to me has been toxic for most of our lives, and the reason it took me this long to realize it was because they would treat me kindly only until it became in their own interest to act otherwise. But I would take it, because I loved them and didn’t want to hurt their feelings, and I assumed that since they loved me, they wouldn’t ACTUALLY (emotionally) hurt me.

Spoiler alert: they did.

I’m not going to get much more into it, but your AU’s been very comforting to me ever since this happened, because it’s helping me come to terms with the fact that what happened wasn’t my fault just because our relationship seemed nice most of the time.

Your depiction of Kendra manipulating Donnie so realistically, and Donnie slowly but surely realizing that Kendra was hurting him is so powerful, and I thank you for that.

I’ll only be discussing this once, here, in this post. So I’m afraid if I get anyone asking for further info, I’m not going to reply /lh

I’m very sorry for what you’ve gone through. I hope you can find what you need to heal. Everyone’s traumas are so different, so please if you can, and haven’t already, speak to a professional that will give you help catered to you.

But I do want to immediately answer your question and say, yes, I have healed, for the most part. It took a lot of work and self-reflection that I didn’t want to do, because it was scary. But when I finally talked to someone, and realized I needed to take action in order to heal, that was when the process started.

For years, I thought my only options were to suffer in silence, and that what happened to me was my own fault, because towards the end, I was consenting. But I didn’t understand how my mindset and self worth had become so twisted.

My person (let’s call him J) was one of my best friends growing up. But as he got older, and more interested in…mature things, he changed. J would only ever agree to hang out together unless I offered to give him something to make it worth his while. Eventually I started to think these acts were all I was good for, as that’s all that made him happy to be around me. Pretty soon, J didn’t even have to push the ideas onto me. He only had to act uninterested or busy, and I would sit there and beg to do whatever he wanted.

The idea of rejection grew to be so painful and terrifying as he was one of only two friends that I had (the other being his sister. So if I lost one, I was so scared to lose the other). And I’d recently lost one of my closest childhood friends. Which he often used her cutting contact with us in his manipulations as well.

(It wasn’t until years later that she contacted me through Facebook and revealed that it was J that made her feel too uncomfortable, and as she already lived two hours away from us, and only visited once a year, it was just easier for her to cut off contact. I don’t blame her now, but without that knowledge, the thought that it was something I did, only helped J manipulate me.)

As I grew older, and I got better friends, I started to learn just how much I’d been pushed into only ever doing what he wanted, and how one sided of a relationship it was. He moved away, and that distance I was so scared of became a reality. But it was the best thing to ever happen. I still wonder what would’ve happened if he’d stayed in town. If we might’ve gotten married or if I would’ve finally stood up for myself. But all that matters is he is gone. There is always the danger of him coming home and me seeing him—we were neighbors, so his parents and mine still live right next door. Holidays can be kind of a high stress time lol.

That cafe comic is actually probably the most therapeutic piece out of the whole Kendratello AU I’ve done, as it’s always been a fear of mine that I could just turn around and he’d be in town visiting lol. Sending Kendra through that portal was highly cathartic. But even if that were to happen now, I have my coping skills, and I’m in a much better headspace. I think I would be able to handle myself.

I’m still a people pleaser, I don’t think that’s ever going to go away, even with all the work I’ve done. The biggest thing is, I know I’m worth more now. I can see real kindness, and catch the fake stuff much better by looking for those same toxic signs. The real friendships I’ve made have shown me what connection is truly like. It’s not a one-sided negotiation every time you get together. And if it is, then it’s probably not a healthy give and take. I’ve healed, but it is a constant effort.

Every new person sets off some kind of anxiety in the back of my head, but I don’t let that fear control how our relationship will develop. I’ve got the final say in what happens and what I get out of it.

Peri is a highly independent adult, he doesn’t like being coddled or touched without any warning and isnt the type to ask for help at all even if he really needs it. He’s an extremely closed off person using the suave act as a way to personally seperate himself to others which he developed due to his celebrity status, the suave personality also acts as a way to keep face as he never knows where could be camera. He pretends this cool collected guy, that can worm his way to getting anything (which is true) that has everything under control but in reality he’s this kinda dorky dude, that always anxious on how people perceive him and his grades. He’s an overachiever, after the initial first baby born hype died down he’s mostly known as the really smart youngest fairy in existence, he’s was an academic weapon throughout spellementary school and hs (im basing his education system off mine which is only two schools no middle 4-12 and 12-18) and came to uni with overconfidence in his educational abilities. Theres one thing thats consistent between his suave act and his actual self which is he’s petty as hell and very snarky, you can try talking him down but he’ll roast you back or give you a vaguely threatening threat. As well as being a bit prideful and vain, like he knows he’s pretty and smart and cares a lot about his appearance.

In this uni au he’ll be a bit of a static character he doesnt grow much, and struggles with demonstrating his affection or his struggles. (Which is why dev and peri dont exactly work much cause peri is overcompensating on how much coddling he got, and show affection in a more subtle way that dev doesn’t need as he need a more direct way (and heres a thought i dont think peri wouldve ever said he cared for dev unless delirious) ) . But he’s more openly affectionate with his parents cause he loves them. What he mainly goes through is humbling, he starts fairly prideful and overconfident but starts to slowly crumble from the pressure and anxiety. As in he doesnt say no to anything, hes somehow always busy or doing something, he also studies not enough and too much (crams shit in) and he also got his celebrity things to do. Another arc will be opening up to Goldie and Irep (but they'll be his only friends) cause he doesnt learn shit about how to socialise without depending on the act. He’s also easily frustrated, if things dont go in the way he wants he gets frustrated at himself, like he really put his self worth on his abilities to do things and less on who he is as a person. Like everyone praised him for his intelligence, charm, talent, magic and appearance, like he hates being coddled but he likes being praised, while irep doesnt get praised and seeks getting praised. But that doesnt change the fact he is a genuinely nice-ish person he just doesn’t like disappointing people, especially those close to him but he’s got a bit of an ego but not in a narcissistic way but in a young adult way where he doesnt exactly think for others first but for himself because he doesnt want to disappoint people. (Which is seen in battle of dimmsonian where hes more worried about being seen by his parents and his career choices then dev). Which is also why he’s a stickler to the rules, like he doesnt want people to think he’s bad person but also jorgen literally drilled it into him that breaking the rules is bad. Like he’s the type to do it right by the books, that comes from him being a bit of a people pleaser, and genuine concern of him messing up his perfect facade.

Speaking of Goldie, i would describe their relationship as fairly close. It takes a while for the either of them to open up to anything personal but they start off as friends of mutual benefits. They use eachother as study buddies, people to hang out with and to talk about their slightly weird interests. And the more they go through uni the more they will confide with each other. Like i imagine a tipping off point for their friendship is when peri finally breaks and gets like a panic attack, Goldie will be there to boost him up. Irep is also their friend but he’s in it more to best Peri or to piss him off. Irep is one of few to see through his act and knows how to break it.

Like genuinely i do think hazel and peri may be counterparts to each other like they both lost their sibling figure, both overthinks scenarios and both want to be appear more mature then they actually are. Like i want anw to be where he grows the most because he’s more challenged to question his behaviours and habits, especially with how these traits affect his and dev’s relationship for the worse.

the gotg game actually has my fav interpretations of most of the guardians too which surprised me. im assuming ud wanna mostly hear my thoughts on the story stuff anyway even tho i am umm. an action game snob and i have a lot to say abt that stuff too cz its just a fantastic game and it was on my radar long before i actually got into gotg coz the reviews were like 'yo this is a great action game' and im like oooooohhh wiggles my fingers. anyway.

game mantis is BY FAR my fav version of her its like the perfect fusion of her comic appearances in early gotg and the movie version. i like the comic ver bt she can b a little overly serious and i think the shift to make her more light hearted and fun was a good one. like how they changed peter to be a music guy and a tad sillier. i think it fits. and while i do actually like her mcu version its also like. too silly. mcu forgets that shes also like actually very wise and in tune w emotions and how other ppl think, and also a badass martial artist. right. game mantis gets to be all of those things at once. also shoutout to her voice actor for doing an awesome job.

draxxx.... im honestly still not sure if i prefer alien drax or mr douglas drax. if moondragon is around then i def want mr douglas. bt if shes not then its like... no harm done...? not much to say here other than that i do love tht everyone indulges him. thats like the big thing abt the game for me. the banter is sooo good, they playfully rib each other like friends do but u can tell they genuinely care abt each other just from the way theyre willing to go along w each others weird habits or unfamiliar culture stuff. so from that angle i rly like how they did drax, and his talk w peter in knowhere... ToT a problem w drax is also that i think too many things treat him as a joke to be laughed at for being weird and the game neatly sidesteps that by giving u both but making it clear that hes still a character w depth.

i have no big thoughts on rocket honestly aside from that i dont like the little goatee thing bt im also not a huge rocket fan so my opinion is worth little here lol. i liked him. fr me my big rocket things r like. his relationship w peter and groot and i loved both of those so i have zero complaints. the ongoing 'my ship' thing w peter was so well done compared to when its done in the comics LOL.

groot i just liked a lot its also my fav version of groot i think cz its so obvious how kind and sweet he is. bt so much of groot is like. dependent on rocket to help translate. that SAIDDD i love the convo sm later on when rocket+groot+mantis were all talking together and peter had no idea wht they were laughing at. wish there was a lil more of that bt theres soooooo much dialogue in the game already tht asking for more is so unfair. bt more mantis+groot would be cute. my fav groot is the one whos sooooo sweet bt also says slurs and has rocket being like YOU CANT BE SAYING THAT BUDDY. anyway ik a big part of him is also in the voice acting cz its like the Tone of how he says stuff since u cant understand him and i think the voice actor did soooo good at that. and then the little bits of physical acting too like when hes messing w the controls. i cant say too much coz u havent finished it yet ToT

gamora is where i have some issues bt its mostly coz im married to her old look+personality and dont like the newer depictions as much. in the game she comes off as rly young esp w the dyed hair and it doesnt rly fit my own view of her? as a more mature woman. one tht knows how to have fun and has a confidence tht comes with experience and doesnt rly get embarrassed abt herself or anything. so this gamora is just. different. i dont think its bad bt it doesnt mesh w my own view i guess. despite not being a huge gamora fan i have a lot of thoughts abt her esp w the way it crosses over w the magus stuff. shes a very inch resting char... i wanted to do my own outfit design fr her too bt never got around to it... coz thats my other gripe w game gamora. her outfit is so boring... ik its based on a comic look cz i read that run but i didnt like it there either. i feel like they can never decide on a good look for her at all. they either want her sexed up or not at all to the point that the outfits lose all sense of personality or flair and are just. overly practical and boring. which doesnt fit the her thats confident and likes playing w ppl. so yea. shrug on that one. as an isolated thing i like her but compared to everything else shes ever been, not so much. basically.

this one could be up for debate on whether reborn magus is the 'same' as the old one but has warlock ever had that concession? not rly so i dont wanna say its different here either. this is a nature vs nurture thing that i also have some shit to say abt bt if im allowing myself ONE huge tangent here i wont go off on another one in the middle of it. actually fuck that i do what i want. and its relevant. coz there is one difference. and thats the actual original magus from the warlock comics by starlin, so actual future self adam. and then the one that spawned when warlock had the infinity gauntlet and he expelled all good and evil from himself, which is when magus became a separate entity entirely. bt also the thing in gotg v2 where he uses a discarded alt timeline that wasnt meant to happen and THAT was the one where he turns into magus so technically the reborn magus is made from the real first one that got deleted?? man idfk. i think there is a degree of separation from the two just coz its like. i dont think we know if the expelled magus experienced w. ok. im gonna call them magus1 (future adam) and magus2 (expelled evil) ok. we dont know if magus2 has the memories of magus1 or any of the actual lived experience because warlock of the main timeline DID NOT turn into magus. magus1 isnt from 616 or whatever. hes an alt version. magus2 should technically be the 616 version. i think. so magus2 could have been that mad simply out of principle of it, which is based and true and totally fair. anyway tangent over sorta. reborn child magus is magus3 and idfk which magus hes technically reincarnating from, probably magus1 since its the timeline that was destroyed tht adam brought back. i would love to explain my thought process about my Hazama genderbend - or mostly why the Lost Saga design made me go "lemme. do this one myself actually"

while my opinions on redesigns vary, i think if it's done for fun and with no malicious intent, its probably fine. probably. my opinions on genderbends are as follow - gender shouldn't change their whole personality, the character should be recognizable and the key design elements should stay or be adapted in some way. (says the guy who forgot a chain? on the 'my motif are snakes and chains' character? ok.)

i am not a guy who works on games or does character design professionally. neither am i bashing the studio or intend to disrespect the work of artists who work on this game. this type of character design can exist, as can anything. someone loves it, and i think that's wonderful. i never wish to tear these people down, i honestly think she's cute as a standalone character. not as.. Hazama. my fanon design is not a fix, nor is it a better one. it's honestly just me drawing what i'd imagine her to be, i think there's a point to be made about characters who do actually depend on their gender, like their identity being rooted in toxic masculinity/femininity, genderqueer characters and if their gender plays in how the characters around them view them or what they have to do. though that last one is more of a story thing, rather than a visual thing, but as both storyteller and brushstroker (huh.?) i tend to think about that too

honestly i find the most based genderswap designs to just be like, the same character exactly. like that's what im talking about. but that's not very creatively challenging. but very funny

i respect a shamelessly sexy design, i can respect sexual fanservice, i think there's always an audience for that and it works and it can be done well. but who is tha.t. and why

and a tangent on characters being sexually appealing, or hypersexualized, you do you, sex sells, etc - i am not the market for it, i don't find this design sexy and i am more interested in the original one, but i am a korean mmorpg player so the design genre of sexy woman it's something that i grew accustomed to. and yet. um. i DO find it weird when only women are sexualized, i find it frustrating, even. i love sexualizing men. that's one of my favorite hobbies and being deprived of that is devastating

now. benefit of doubt: perhaps lost saga has a perfectly logical lore explanation to why she looks like that. where everything makes sense, and it's totally necessary for her character design to be this way. the rolled up sleeves add more aerodynamic to her, actually, making her superior to the male counterpart - and when she kicks people with a high kick and flashes them it actually makes for a stronger combat strategy, as it stuns them for a turn.

but i don't know and will work under the assumption that this is simply a genderswapped design

let's start with what i agree with:

THE HAIR!!! YES!! KEEP IT SHORT!! i like the style they went with, it reads a touch more feminine, but otherwise is short :) and that's awesome. i don't always fancy when masculine characters get long hair in their feminine designs. short hair are perfectly fine and often make so much more sense (though i love long hair on characters, so i am guilty of doing this too. absolutely hypocritical.)

SKIRT AND STOCKINGS! its a very businesswoman look, though i'd go for tights instead (and i did). a girlboss vibe. (ominous noise)

next, things i am neutral on: confused about:

the .. hat? why did they feel the need to change it and add studs? that's, uh, cool. i like his original hat shape more. i'm more or less just confused by this choice

...rolling up the sleeves? okay? i suppose? i don't think that's something he does, ever. i don't think it takes away much of anything

and then, i just kind of dislike every other choice that was made in adapting this character in feminine attire:

the SHOES! they are NOT! striking shoes. do not be cowards. add metal to it. make em hurt. she's wearing high heels - they can be at least metallic or something? i think there was a better way to adapt them in the design, if we are choosing a heel

the skirt and stockings. (ominous noise) again. truly, not bad at all, .. in concept. however, the way it is in this artwork is... a choice? it makes me think of a cheap sexy teacher halloween costume instead. which is fine, but that is not in any way how Hazama presents himself (or how the designers present him to us). he's a police/military captain, basically, and while i wouldn't say the original design evokes that too much either but he does read as someone classy, sleek, shady. she does not.

the cropped ... everything? cropped shirt and vest? again, i just don't understand the choice. Hazama, as a character, doesn't use sexiness as a weapon as far as im aware - he pretends to be normal (couldnt be me) and rather meek. i think his waist has enough of an accent without the shirt being halfway up and my final point - the face. Who is that woman. if i give them the benefit of the doubt; her expression looks soft and not very threatening. but she doesn't look meek, either, with her frowned eyebrows meaning to convey some sort of fierceness. so. So i do not think that this is them having a "mask on" moment; i think this is just a denial of a freaky woman. look at Hazama's expression, face, the shadow and how obviously evil he looks. he is allowed to be so. however, when he is genderswapped. she is not allowed to be a freak. she is forced to be normal. and that is MY job. not hers. LET WOMEN BE WEIRD. LET WOMEN BE EVIL. THAT IS ATTRACTIVE. I PROMISE.

with these points, i think you can already see how my design came to be. it's just hazama with boobs, tights and a pencil skirt. and heels with metal tips. i also gave her some makeup: black lipstick as that is correct (looking at shego and kanaya). green eyeshadow, and green nailpolish. those came around when i was drawing her in black and white, it was a fun pop of color, and i just liked them as design elements - that's something i'd just add to the masculine design if it was mine anyway. i am aware of makeup having a gendered implication in the current society, but i lack the ability to care about that

i still feel guilty for forgetting her chain, though. i love hip chains <3

my image of her was an office siren, basically. the artwork is meant to portray her seductively and dangerously, somewhat menacing but inviting. the snake that makes the apple look so good. like in them bibles.

Do you have any writing tips? Especially for characterization/dialogue :>

uhhhh i am not a professional so take this with a grain of salt. here are things i think about a lot at least

i dont have any solid ideas on how i get my prose to be Like That, i am not super confident in it, but a thing ive tried to focus on it rhythm. this goes for dialogue too; if it sounds clunky in your mouth, unless its supposed to, it might be a sign to change it up and rephrase a little.

really long paragraphs are really, really, really really hard to read. fics that consistently have paragraphs that go beyond like 6 lines are borderline unreadable to me. i stick it out sometimes but a lot of the time the sight of a fat fucking Block will just make me click out immediately

its also always good to be punchy imo. i mean it depends on what style you're going for but i notice some of the best lines from my writing are just simple, single sentence-paragraph statements lmao

false starts and filler words are what i notice the most when it comes to stuttering, which is a thing pretty much everyone does unless they're speaking very intentionally (i keep it in mind for characters who are motormouths especially because our brains move faster than our mouths do sometimes). especially when people are stressed, they'll usually start with a sentence fragment and then say something completely different because they just found a better way to rephrase it <- its probably the thing i utilize the most. in general though people repeat words more than they t-t-talk l-like t-t-this, and even when i write more dirrect stuttering dialogue i try to make it. idk consonants i guess? sorry idk if this is helpful

i script a lot of my scenes before i write them out, which usually helps me keep things well-paced. i really only include action in the scripts when its in the midst of an action scene or if its relevant to the conversation in some way (or if i just have an idea and want to keep it in mind)

TAKE NOTES WHEN YOU GET IDEAS

save all your cool ideas for your active in progress story instead of storing them away for later. got a line of dialogue or an interaction that you want to put SOMEWHERE? see if you can fit it into your multichapter first, it might help you with ideas. more will come to you in the future with your later projects!!!

you dont need to plan everything out meticulously, most parallels in cw came to me in the midst of me writing them. the motif with raph and donnie and doors was a complete accident, as a good example. it fucks hard though lmao

also when plotting out multichapters i think in what i want to progress before anything else, so there's a sense of direction. with cw it was mostly what parts of cl i wanted to address, although i originally planned to make note of shelldon in like chapter fucking three and then it didnt happen until seventeen LMFAOOOOOOOO

In your alien abduction au, you said the boys would be surprised to find out humans eat three meals a day plus snacks, could it be because of our warm blood? That's why, irl, mammals and birds eat more than reptiles and amphibians, because we need more energy to maintain our body temperature, and you said Sun and Moon are kinda of like an amphian species, and that's why they dont eat so much?

This also brings some quirks, because warm blooded beings comes with some kind of way to protect themselves from temperature shifts around them (to maintain their internal heat stable), like fur, feathers and fat, your boys know fur and maybe feathers too but, some species have their own little ways to do it too, like a dogs breathing, but humans, we almost completely lost our fur, that's because we sweat. Do you think sweat and/or oily skin would be strange for them? You said their skin isn't humid like one of an amphian is, but they still use of external enviroment modifications to make themselves confortable, your fic shows it, so would they get weirded out by the strange salty water we produce to lower our temperature? Or the oil to keep our skin from cracking, even in dry places? Im pretty sure humans are the only species to sweat on earth, not sure though, so would that be like, a new thing they've never seen before? Or just rare? Would we shivering from cold get the same reaction?

Sorry it's long, but ever sinse you said they are like amphibians i've been thinking about how sensitive they are, not saying they are fragile thought, dinossaurs were a thing here and we still have crocodiles and aligators, and your boys are big, strong, have claws and teeth, the whole thing, im speaking more of how they are dependent on the external enviroment. Amphibians and reptiles live mostly in hot and humid places because it's easy to regulate themselves like this, but even the ones adapted to harsher ambiances, if they change places they will die. So imagine they are going to a colder planet, im not talking about freezing cold, just 5 or 10°C (50° fahrenheit), we can survive without clothes there, but they need a whole suit to warm them up, because even if a jacket would keep most of the cold out, they dont have internal heat, so they would still freeze at some point.

I do imagine they're cold blooded, yeah. Maybe not in exactly the same way earth animals are (I gotta dig in and do some biology research before I can say anything about their biology for sure-). But the habitable places of their planet largely don't get cold enough to freeze, so there wasn't much evolutionary pressure to evolve adaptations for keeping yourself warm, and then once they evolved to make tools they just... never went to the cold dry parts of the planet. Why bother? But again I am planning to do a masterpost with their definitive biology one of these days that has actual like, scientific explanations

They'd probably be grossed out by sweat yeah, even if theyve seen it before. Other species do sweat, tho, even on earth! Hippos and horses and other apes. Even cats and dogs sweat a little bit on their paws, it's just not their primary method of cooling down. I'd imagine shivering isn't that unusual though, but still probably kinda weird to the boys.

But yeah they don't do too well in the cold. I don't imagine they've ever seen snow in person. The main thing is that they aren't a one to one with any earth animal because their evolutionary line and pressures were so different. So I really gotta do some research before I say anything too definitive here lol because who knows where I'll end up
