For a moment, I feel the need to give more credit to Lauren Faust and G4 MLP’s design and style. I want to explain why it fundamentally worked despite the ponies having small faces, and what about G5's artstyle does not.

Horses are annoying to draw (deceptively complex faces, legs, postures and feet compared to other ungulates) and so also annoying to toon-ify and chibi-fy even for veterans of this craft. No matter how glitter-sparkly the magical horse, we ALL KNOW there's ways this can go horribly wrong:

I think donkeys are easier to cartoonify than horses. They have naturally shorter faces so making them into chibis or babu cartoons is easier.

HOWEVER, I will say G1 and G2 My Little Pony generations box art and cartoons mostly had the facial proportions right. Yes, the face+muzzle was still super short, but A) not unbelievable to some real life equines, and b) it’s a chibified, ‘consolidated’ version of a horse face proportionally:

Of course there were bizarro moments, especially in My Little Pony Tales, but for the most part the series kept the ‘characterized horse face’-tropes for the characters. As a child and even as an adult I'm gonna level with you: I NEVER MINDED the lack of visible hooves or fetlocks for My Little Ponies toys.

What I did mind was the way the way the ponies carried themselves and walked in these shows.

They walked and frolicked like wobbly dogs. Even when they weren't replicating humans creepily like in My Little Pony Tales, the ponies movements were really weird. And because the movements were weird it made the fetlock-less hooves on the animated or DRAWN characters more nub-stub like than they're supposed to be.

The G3 cartoons and box art (besides being bad, writing wise. sns) REALLY emphasized the large-ness of the eyes on the ponies over the previous gens. Obviously the eyes on the first gen ponies were always big and detailed, but Gen 3 really went nuts with that big-ness of those eyes on the face. This style works just fine on cartoon-fied deer and caprids but not at all on horses, cows or elephants. BUT, I'm gonna be fair, I don't think the G3 pones don't somehow look like horses.

Something that to me really hurt G3’s art and specials were how static the ponies felt anatomically. I guess I don’t remember them being played with much in the older gens, but the way in which the G3 ponies never emoted with their ears knocks them down. G3’s body autonomy was even worse even before they ever got to ‘chibi’ era in the late 2000s. The ponies ALWAYS walked way too statically ALL the time and that just brought attention to how unhorselike they were to me, a kid who loved animals and even cutesy stylized animals.

Highkey kind of hate how G3 defenders keep saying ‘at least their faces are long’ as if that’s literally the only thing that matters when it comes to cartoon horse. K, then I’ll watch something with horse-furries or rubber-hose cartoons because horses legs and bodies don’t remotely look like like globs of cheese sticks blocking along.

So then Lauren Faust comes in and given what she’s worked on, she definitely knows ‘compact’ features on cartoon animals. For the alicorns and male ponies she keeps the angular ‘long face’ feeling (seen here on a Bratz pony) but for the main female characters the ponies have super small muzzles and snouts. Within her style I really like how the ponies are drawn.

Still, not gonna lie, they DO otherwise look more like chibi xmas deer if they look like any ungulates at all. It's why I think this looked better for Faust's designs of the reindeer in Them's Fighting Herds. Compact, but still obviously a deer and a reindeer specifically.

((as an aside, I don't mind chibi/retro 'bambi'-lookin cartoon deer for Christmas, but I do deeply prefer reindeer being chungus cowdeers))

What I personally defend about the G4 ponies has all to do with the proportions of the compact face. Their eyes are still too big and still too close to their muzzles, but not SO close together that they read as a lizard or a cat. This made it cute whenever you saw a pony looking down their snout or from an under-angle.

The most ‘un-horse-like’ feature was always when the ponies would be seen front front on, though even then I would say it follows the rule of horse-face perspective; it COULD definitely be better but it wasn't the worst:

The ponies’ ‘side eye’ view was never too alienating for me. Most of the G4 ponies chose to have the characters be seen and look good from the side as that is still where these horse characters have their enormous eyes.

You'll notice though, especially once the movie came along, how comfortable G4 eventually got with doing a more dynamic face angle that, while maybe easier to make the characters 'emote' widely, also really drew attention to the shortness of the face.

A big thing that really stood out to me with Friendship is Magic is how the ponies’ body anatomy worked. This was another thing that made them feel a lot more horse-like and caused me to not care about things like missing felocks or the smol faces. Ponies would emote with their ears like real horses; the way they carried their legs and used them to pick up or point felt more horse-like. It was really cute.

The animation style and software meant that the walking animation for things like cantering, galloping and idle horse movements worked. The way they reared up or kicked stuff behind them felt a million times more natural than what you'd get in Generations 1-3.

Ultimately I too would prefer fetlocks and some longer faces, BUT never to the degree that I found the g4 ponies ‘not horses’ somehow.

I wish I was a better horse/animal cartoonist-artist so I could break this down better in words. It was never a ‘Catscratch’ problem for me w G4 ponies (i.e the characters looked so unlike their original animal that I didn’t really recognize them as that animal anymore). But, I get the complaint. In the world of anthropomorphism part of the appeal is the abstraction BUT ALSO identification of real animal features on a character to make them appealing to a human audience. Werewolves and wolf-furries are as pretty, cute or terrifying in whatever way the artist decides to make them more (or less) like the animal; Some werewolves are just humans with wolf faces, some are a really creepy half-animal hybrid ala American Werewolf in London, point is they all work for their intended purposes. When you draw a wolf character badly (bad face proportions, visible whiskers like a cat) it doesn’t just bother the animal-loving side of the brain, it bothers the character’s appeal.

Gen 4 was highly stylized but it never became that kind of uncanny in how they drew their equines, and that had all to do with how Faust specifically designed them originally.

All this to say what makes the Gen 5 ponies ugly and feel less horse like really IS all in the face and body. The G5 ponies have the same face length as G4 but the G5 ponies all have eyes waaaay closer to their muzzles. All of them. They all got Disney-same-face-syndrome-Elsa -ace both in 2D and 3D animation. It doesn’t look right. Their gates, walking and running animation is also not nearly as good as Gen 4.

Every time I see their fetlocks and more detailed markings I actually wince more than I do appreciate them. Because they’re combined so much with the most unhorselike bodies and faces, I don’t really care that they get fetlocks. Who cares about fetlocks? Your horse has a human face.

That’s really what the problem is with Gen 5's artstyle and I’d argue a lot of chibi horse creatures. Small cartoon horses CAN work. Their faces don’t have to be ‘long’ but they have to otherwise look the way a horse’s face looks. Otherwise you aren’t making horse-creatures, you’re making creatures with details like a horse ala the way mobians look in Sonic, but not-horse creatures. And they ugly.

I hate the newfangled designs of the Gen 5 characters. I think all the extra detail makes them overdesigned and an eyesore. The mane 6 combined with Spike, Celestia and the CMC all had really good color theory applied to them so that whether they were in a group or alone the colors fit the scene.

Gen 5 feels like the designers looked at a bunch of fan redesigns of Gen 4 but took the overdesigned, animation-unfriendly elements of them and went NUTS. WHY does Izzy's horn or the wings on the pegasus ponies NEED to have that extra intricate detail? Answer: They DON'T and it doesn't really look much better in either 2D or 3D.

The extra patterns are also too much on these already-unhorse like horse things. It feels like it's compensating for the unhorselikeisms. It's frankly unappealing to me as someone who's teenage-hood was dominated by alicorns and already garish colors of these bobblehorses. Ponyhead from Star vs the Forces of Evil looked more like a horse than the Gen 5 ponies.

Gen 5 MLP is not bad, but I would take Gen 4's artstyle ANY DAY.

Gen 4 wasn't good because 'it was Gen 4 and Gen 4 is somehow immune from criticism'; it was good in the sense that in the early seasons the writers and art directors had an idea of what they were doing while the later seasons and later gens DID NOT.

Thank you!!! Well, have some more general headcanons. If you want more specific feel free to request, I got: angst, nsfw, crack, etc.

Simon is resistant to most every poison, or at least whatever Clef fed him during his time in the man’s class (alongside some of Clef’s subconscious reality bending and wanting to keep Simon safe). So now, if theres like a little thing of poison in front of him he will drink it like a shot. Or if he had an upset patient who decided to try and poison the psychologist, he finishes every bite of what was offered and says something along the lines of “[Insert poison] really? Couldn’t you have come up with, something more unique?”

He has photographic memory, he wasn’t born with it. Another thing that happened thanks to Francis Clef’s reality bending. Essentially he kept saying he forgot what his cousin told him and Clef just “Just remember it!! Goddamn!!” And poof! Photographic memory from then on.

Simon hates squishmallows, while he collects plushies he hates how squishmallows don’t have a unique silhouette. They’re all vaguely egg shaped and he hates it with a burning passion, he wants animal shaped plushies thank you very much!

While he typically isn’t violent, he is known to not have security nearby when doing psych evals. If one of his patients attack him, he can defend himself and typically injure them to where they back off or completely knock them out. Simon still has a panic button in his pocket just in case though.

He is convinced he’s a top from his Shard days, you see. Shard only ever topped targets because well, they wanted to be topped yk? So yeah, he’s convinced he’s a top (he’s a bottom).

While my Simon does publicly simp over Diogenes, they’re actually old friends from agent days. In fact, Diogenes was the one to suggest he simp for someone so pathetically that theres no way this “virgin” could ever be Shard. So, they’ve been playing everyone from day one.

Don’t ask him about Arias, he and Arias are exes. He will suggest you take some therapy if you ask him about it.

He’s a lightweight when drinking, in spite of his 6’9 frame, he will get tipsy within the first drink. Whether it’s genetics or subconscious reality bending? Thats up to fate to decide, nobody quite knows which it is.

Simon used to be a twin! Key word, used to be.

He watches Bluey and My Little Pony religiously, he loves the characters, the lessons, and he can pretend to be a kid again sometimes. Its nostalgic in a way, so very nostalgic. Also, he lives for the MLP Infection aus, they’re his favorite (his favorite in the Mane 6 is a three way tie between Fluttershy, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash, he ships them.)

Yes, he has an OF account. Yes I can do some art of the posts on there, yes he still collects money because some Shard simps don’t care if Shard’s dead, they still want his content. Do I have headcanons for his account? Yes. Will I post them without someone asking for the content? No. I need to know what everyone wants before I start posting too much nsfw headcanons.

He used to smoke a lot, he smells like honey and cigarettes. He’ll smoke a pack within a day sometimes, he’s had to quit though and switch to zyns and gum ever since he became Meri’s psychologist.

He lost his leg trying to save his cat.

His cat is a fugitive GOC agent.

He still loves his cat.

Simon works out a lot, he’s only a twink because he’s hairless. Otherwise he’s as muscular and fit as your average MTF agent, he can hold his ground when it comes to weightlifting championships. In fact, due to him being so active, he’s friends with a lot of the agents on site seeing as they interact with him at the gym. It aids them feeling comfortable to go to him to talk and get therapy.

Most of his willing patients are MTF members!! See the paragraph above as for why.

He is dating Robert Carter (yes the MC&D heir, don’t ask me how), and Daniel Lucken (a friend’s oc who at this point is our oc. Shared custody bitch). He loves them both with all his heart, even if Simon has to deal with one drunken boyfriend and the other trying to kill him at times. He couldn’t be happier.

Simon would in fact date Bright if it wasn’t for y’know, both his hands are taken, and the whole patient thing. In the future he will allow Bright to hit if he’s desperate (but with Robert dating him, its unlikely)

He’s convinced Kondraki to do therapy, he struggles to get the man to remember to take his meds and not drink as much but at least he agreed to therapy. Namely after the Aquafina incident did he convince the man. Yes, Ship in a Bottle is canon here. Idc it’s funny and the best canon besides Resurrection and any MC&D Hub.

He does couples therapy for Draven and Talloran sometimes.

Simon works with TJ Bright SCP-590, it’s a secret to the majority of the Foundation. An O5 assigned him to it, and didn’t explain why. He assumes it’s a power play against O5-6, one that he’s unfortunately caught in the crossfire of. He doesn’t mind, he calls TJ 590 by his name. He’s not scared. They need him if they ever want Shard back after all.

He’s been assigned to 7408-b and 4231-b as well. He wont tell Clef. Simon misses his cousin.

Bro has some GOC agents that are out for him, or was out for him as Shard anyways. They hated his guts and he hated theirs. The mfers tried to kill his cat, and are the reason Agent Shard is dead.

Simon likes pineapple on pizza, his favorite pizza is specifically: pineapple, bacon bits, extra sauce, garlic crust, pepperoni, and banana peppers!

He hates horror movies with a burning passion! He will have vivid nightmares.

Simon is kinda the site’s pet, he’s the only one of them left with light in his eyes anymore after all. So almost everyone goes out of their way to keep him happy, they’re scared there will be a day that shine leaves his eyes and he stops smiling.

Friede wasn't usually a nostalgic person. His thirst for adventure always outweighed any longing for the past. He cherished his freedom too much to dwell on childhood memories, and when he did, a chat with Orla about the good old days was all it took to shake it off.

Even so, it wasn't always enough. There were times when all he wanted was to see his sister.

And well, without having any missions to complete, he figured it wouldn't be a problem paying them a visit.

"Why are we in Alola?" Dot asked curiously.

"There's someone I'd like to introduce you to," Friede replied as the ship completely landed. "I don't get to see her often, but she's very special."

As soon as they stepped down the wooden ramp, a familiar shriek pierced the air

"LITTLE BROTHER!"

Friede looked up and saw a woman, running towards them: that distinctive hairstyle, those bright golden eyes, and a huge smile. He couldn't hold back either; he took a couple of strides with his arms open.

"BIG SISTER!"

They embraced, laughing with joy.

"Look how big you are!"

The white-haired man chuckled.

"Don't be so dramatic."

"I don't, just look at you." she said, poking him in the side. "You've certainly put on some weight, little bro. Guess that adventurer's life agrees with you."

"Burnet!" he exclaimed, shoving her hand away, his cheeks burning. Friede also saw her fiddling with the hair in her ponytail.

"Your hair's gotten a little longer now."

"I told you I wasn't going to cut it for a while, and besides, I like how a ponytail feels."

That's when he saw her sister looking over his shoulder.

"And those little kids over there? I don't remember seeing them last time."

Friede laughed, turning to see her classmates approaching and greeting Burnet, already accustomed to the two of them meeting up again. The three children, for their part, seemed a little more shy.

The adventurer quickly walked towards the younger ones.

"Yes, they're the newest crew members. This is Liko, this is Roy, and last one is Dot. Say hello, kids."

"Hello." Despite their shyness, the three offered a friendly greeting. Burnet returned their smiles, bowing to their level.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, my name is Burnet and I'm Friede's older sister."

"I never knew you had a sister, Friede." Liko said. The woman just sighed.

"Wow, how much love you have for your twin."

"Twin?!" Roy exclaimed in great surprise, ignoring her sarcastic response to Friede. "Is she your twin?"

"Didn't I ever tell you?"

Friede groaned as the girl messed up his hair.

"I'm glad to know you haven't changed at all, little brother. Come on in, I'll buy you some iced tea to cool off."

Soon, the entire crew was settled into the woman's home, and it didn't take long for the three children to warm up to Burnet, enough for her to start sharing details about her family background.

"So you're the oldest?" Liko asked, surprised.

"Even though we are twins, I was the first born."

"Just for three minutes." Friede cut in, his eyes rolling. "A favorite boast of her."

"What's it like having Friede as a brother?" Roy asked with a grat curiosity.

"Where to begin? From a young age, he and Charmander would head straight into the forest, get lost for a bit, and come back covered in mud or or being chased by a flock of Pidgeys."

"That bunch was out to get us; I swear they must have put a price on our heads."

"He was a bit of a troublemaker, but incredibly smart. He'd always correct his teachers with perfectly accurate facts, and he was every student's worst nightmare when it came to Pokémon presentations – nobody could beat him."

"Hush." Friede scolded her, a little embarrassed for remember that days.

"So what did you do together?" Dot asked, genuinely interested.

We'd play with Orla, but sometimes we'd watch this little cartoon about horse Pokémon. It was bright, fun, and had lots of songs; we even picked one as our favorite!

Friede laugh.

"I still remember the lyrics, as if we had sung them yesterday."

"Why don't we show them? Just for the good old times."

"Well… I remember the lyrics, but I don't know if I can play the chords perfectly."

"I trust you'll do great, little brother."

Friede wasn't sure, but the three kids looked so happy, he couldn't help but sigh and smile at them.

"Okay, I'll go get my guitar."

Friede settled down, began to casually play his guitar, tweaking a string or two if needed, then ran through some chords until he found a sound that pleased him.

"Whenever you're ready."

Burnet nodded and gestured. Friede smiled, understanding, and started playing the song. Suddenly, all the memories came rushing back.

"When I was just a filly, I found it rather silly. To see how many other ponies I could meet."

Time hadn't diminished Burnet's voice; if anything, it had grown even more melodic than Friede remembered.

"I had my books to read, didn't know that I would ever need. Other ponies, to make my life complete"

When they got close to the chorus, Friede made a small change to the melody.

"But there was one colt that I cared for, I knew he would be there for me."

Again, the young professor changed the tune and began to sing along with his sister.

"My big sister/lil' brother, best friend forever. Like two peas in a pod, we did everything together."

Their duet showed him that distance hadn't changed a thing: they sang as beautifully as ever.

"He taught me how to fly a kite." his twin sang, pointing at Friede to sing the chorus.

"Best friend forever." And of course, he did.

"We never had a single fight."

"We did everything together."

"We shared our hopes."

"We shared our dreams." As they sang, Friede noticed her sister's face fall.

"I miss him more than I realized. It seems..."

Friede winced, a look of guilt on his face, but continued playing. The twins prepared for another duet.

"My big sister/lil' brother, best friend forever. Like two peas in a pod, we did everything together."

Burnet turned to face him; a smile played on her lips, yet her eyes betrayed a deep sadness.

"And though he's oh so far away, I hoped that he would stay..."

Silence hung between them; their mutual nostalgia and melancholy spoke volumes. Friede sensed a slight tremble in their voices as they sang.

"My big sister/lil brother best friend... Forever..." Burnet rested against him, and Friede rested his head against her too. "Forever..."

Snapped out of their thoughts by the sudden burst of applause and cheers from theiraudience, Burnet immediately stood, thanking everyone. Friede, fighting back tears, took a deep breath and hurried to join his twin sister in accepting the ovation.

Once more, words weren't necessary. They knew each other so intimately, they could read each other's minds: Leaving Alola wouldn't be easy.

Maybe they should spend an extra season in Alola.

🩷 Use pacifiers: For sure! I know real 5-8 year olds don’t typically use pacis, but they’re comforting & help me get into little space (plus they’re super cute)!

🩷 Color/draw: I love drawing both in and out of little space so this is a must for me! Coloring also reminds me of my childhood <3 (Fun fact: my favorite Crayola color is Robin’s Egg Blue!)

🧡 Use a sippy cup: Kinda?? I tried a baby bottle once before and I didn’t like how hard I had to work to drink out of the nipple :0 Might just stick with straw cups

❤️ Wear a bib: I can be a bit of a messy eater sometimes (not just in little space haha), but I don’t really feel the need to wear one

🩵 Wear a onesie: I have a few bodysuits in my closet I could try & would definitely be open to trying a onesie with a cute pattern if I could find my size!

🩷 Cuddle with your stuffies: Of course! Having a soft friend to snuggle with is always nice, especially at bedtime (I also love to snuggle with my kitty cat when he sleeps with me <3)!!

🩵 Wear oversized clothes: I would looove to get some cute oversized shirts to wear! It’s a little tricky to find oversized clothing as a fat person though, especially ones with cutesy patterns

*I don’t consider fat a bad word btw!! I self ID as fat/chubby a lot & consider it a neutral descriptor. I really hate that it’s thought of as such a negative term, but you’re still valid if you’re not comfy using it!! 🩵 Play dress up: 100 percent! I haven’t tried dressing up in little space yet but I love trying on & imagining cute outfit combos so this would probably be fun! The only possible downside is that sometimes when I’m little (esp if I’m feeling anxious) it makes me uncomfortable to see my grown-up body in the mirror. Anyone else experience this?

🩷 Chew on teething toys: Yeah! I don’t have any actual baby/toddler teething toys but I love my chew necklace!

🩵 Play make believe: Haven’t tried it! I don’t know that I’d do much talking (so far I’ve been a pretty quiet little- some of this is because I live with other people) but I think it could be fun to pretend to be a chef or make potions or something like that! Might be more fun with another little though…

🩵 Play with toys: Another one I haven’t tried! When I was a kid I played with toys a lot though (Littlest Pet Shop, Zoobles, My Little Pony G3, early Monster High, etc. [I wish I had kept my MLP dolls 😭]) and it could be really fulfilling to play again! (Once again this might be more fun with another little)

🩵 Cuddle with your S/O: I’m not in a relationship right now but when I am I’m hugeeeee on cuddling (Perhaps even cuddling’s #1 fan hehe)!!

🩷 Watch cartoons/movies: Absolutely! I’ve always really loved cartoons & watching lighthearted shows/movies (esp from my childhood) are sooo comforting :3 (I watched Bluey for the first time yesterday and really liked it!)

❤️ Wear a diaper: I don’t think wearing one would be physically comfortable for me- I’d rather just use the restroom (If you use diapers you’re valid though!! You’re not dirty or f*tishizing children for needing/wanting them, just remember to practice good hygiene afterward or ask your CG for help if they’re comfortable with it!)

🩷 Go on Tumblr: Yes! I definitely wanna make sure my little space experience isn’t reliant on the Internet (esp since it can be a scary/triggering place for littles) but I love looking at all the fun mood & stimboards and reading about other little’s experiences!

🩵 Have tea parties with stuffies: Never tried it! I think it might feel a little awkward or embarrassing at first since I’m not used to it (same with toys and playing pretend) but it’d be worth a shot!

🩷 Nom baby foods/snacks: Definitely! I haven’t tried baby snacks before but I love to put together little snack plates (It’s extra fun when I use kid plates- I have a bunch of fun plates from my childhood! [My fave is my pink bug plate])! I feel like it’s also encouraged me to eat more fruits and veggies since stuff like carrot sticks and strawberries work so well as finger foods :3

🩷 Have nap time/sleepy time: Yep! I think being little/having a kid-like bedtime routine has helped me fall asleep faster & relieve nighttime anxiety!

❤️ Suck your thumb: Personally I prefer my paci or chew necklace. I imagine it wouldn’t taste very good + you’ll have to deal with a wet wrinkly thumb afterwards >.< (Once again, you’re valid if you do!! Just make sure to wash your hands really good first so you don’t get sick <3)

🩵 Have a caregiver: I would really like to try and find a CG! In practice I could see myself being too embarrassed to fully lean into little space around someone (at least at first). I don’t think I would be super comfortable having an online only CG so I would have to meet someone irl (it sounds scary to be that open about agere/agedre tho!!). I also think I would have to be dating my CG for me to be fully comfortable (mostly because I don’t like to cuddle in platonic-only relationships)!

🩵 Take bubble baths: I haven’t taken a bubble bath in little space yet but I love taking them as big me! Usually I’ll light a candle, drop in some epsom salts and a bath bomb and listen to music! I also have some bubble bath mix to try out soon & may try and find a few bath friends to join me (this is another activity where seeing/being in my adult body might be a little uncomfortable though)

Thoughts on My Little Pony?

It's a good show. I like it when you get a show which is clearly aimed at little kids and teaches them morals, but also has enough material that people older then the target demographic can enjoy it.

You couldn't go anywhere in 2010s without people talking about My Little Pony. I wouldn't exactly call myself a Pegsister but I have watched a few of the episodes, either with younger relatives or on my own since they are easily available on Youtube, and there's one fic regarding it that I really, really like. And I'm putting it under the cut because I gush about it too much.

One that I haven't talked about and its called The Bridge. It is a crossover fic between My Little Pony and Godzilla. Yes I know it sounds bizarre but it actually works really well. You see because this fic came out before the Monsterverse was a thing, the creator Tarbtano (who I believe has a Tumblr account as well) made what he calls the Amalgamverse which since Godzilla films don't often have strong continuity it in the Henshi era and the current Godzilla is the grown up Godzilla Junior from those films which makes him a gentle giant.

The plot is that during a battle between Godzilla Junior and Spacegodzilla who didn't die and is called Xenilla, they alongside a bunch of different kaiju were hit with a rebuild Dimension Tide which at first glance seems to kill them. But instead it teleported them to Equestria where due to magic fuckery they are turned into ponies. Yep. Seriously. Godzilla and Xenilla are unicorns, Mothra, who is the Mothra Leo from the Rebirth of Mothra trioity and is called Mothra Lea, is a Changling Queen and ironically enough her design looks a lot like the reformed Changlings before those were revealed. Angrius is a Earth Pony, Rodan is a Gryphon and finally Destroyah who is another villain who didn't 100% die is a Pegasus, and she's been regendered as female.

There are several things I like about the fic, the first is both sides are represented well as since this fic came out during a time when Conversion Bureau fics were everywhere and it was common for the MLP cast to be depicted as arseholes, its a relief to see one where the MLP cast are portrayed canonically accurate. The fact the Godzilla cast are ponies allows them to interact with the cast and the power balance is even. Good example is that Godzilla and Princess Luna get into a fight and both are more or less even, while Luna wins in the end she only does so because Godzilla got distracted at a cruical moment and she herself has substained heavy injuries.

Also Tarbtano is exactly like Mod Bubbles is as he's a total nerd who will go into long philosophical and biological tangents about various topics, remember when I mentioned on ASOOT about a blog where someone was trying to calm everyone down after the frenzy of the 2016 elections? It was him. The Amalgamverse is called that as not only does it fuse the Godzilla films in the monsterverse which predates the offical one, but it also fuses literally every other monster and sci-fi film you can think of. The Gamera series? In this. King Kong? In this. Heck a lot of the monsters from obsurce monster movies from other countries can also be seen here as Pulgasari, the one time when North Korea made a monster movie is in this. We also have Raiga who is a spoof Godzilla in this, The Ultramen series is in this and on the sci-fi side Jurassic Park, Carnosaur, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Species, literal every B rated monster film you can think of, see what I mean when I say this is known as the Amalgamverse?

Its as much of a mismash between monster media as A Student Out of Time is with the various fanganronpas. And on the MLP side, Sailor Moon has been incorporated into it, the various previous generations of MLP, Equastria Girls its is own fully estabished setting and the longest arc that was finished is basically a rewrite of the 2nd Equastria Girls film. Oh and the main villain in all of this is Bagan, you know the kajiu from the SNES games that never got his own film? Yeah he's here, he caused the Toba Catastrophe and he wants all life to go extinct.

Tarbtano's girlfriend FaithWolf does the art and she really does narrow the MLP art style really well and makes it feel like you are there. And while the fic started back in 2013 its still ongoing to this very day making it one of the longest running fics out there. Its amazing that this fic has been around to see the end of MLP and the start of a new generation of Godzilla films.

I could go on and on about this fic and how much I love it, but please check it out for yourself its on the FIMfiction and it has its own TV Tropes page if you cannot find it. Its an amazing story with its own fun side stories and the biological and philosophical ramblings of its creator got me pre-prepared for how Mod Bubbles does things.

Well....it's hard to say without having to undermine any potential issues one may have had with the fandom back then.

Growing up, I always saw the term as "male MLP fan" and I still do regardless. Hell, even I took part in the whole subculture because I thought it was really fascinating having to see boys be so open about something that was very feminine. Now whether the people that watched the show actually took the messages to heart, well that's another story. For me, I've only seen a few episodes in full because I was afraid of anybody else finding out. But most of the time, it was also because I gravitated towards the fanon stuff. It kinda felt like a hyperfixation than anything else.

And yes, like any other unsupervised kid I either willingly/accidentally looked up porn.

I think the first time I ever realized there was this much controversy over bronies was when the same people behind Equestria Daily were planning on making sister-site for Steven Universe and the initial response that came from that. Basically there was this issue about them creating separate gender labels or the mass amounts of porn that would follow in the wake of the announcement. In hindsight, it was all really silly, but that was the mindset some people had about them back then.

Nowadays, there's this inside joke among others about how there are 4 things that could end up happening to a brony. They either mature a little bit, move on, become an alt-righter, or become trans. And truth be told, I've seen those scenarios played out before, especially #4. I can't say if TERFism played a part in that, though I do remember hearing something about other fans trying to call out the issues that were plaguing the fandom, transphobia being one of them.

But yeah I don't know. I mean MLP was just seen as one of the many outliers in the 2010's era of fandom where everything was being overexposed because of Tumblr. Keep in mind, this was during the time of Superwholock. And to me, bronies are just mostly a byproduct of that success, not so much the primary reason. So even if I were to go back and watch the entire series, I realized that there's only so much we can control surrounding the stigma of that name.

Does any of the Anti-Brony sentiments feel... TERF-ish in retrospect?

Don't get me wrong, that side of the Fandom has and is still a hot mess of a hot mess... but too many of those calling it out felt... off. I didn't know why at first but the constant characterization of male fans of MLP:FiM was being framed as a moral panic.

Bronies were stealing a show from little girls by... just remotely associating themselves with the series. The idea might've been that younger viewers were creeped out by older fans on their turf but... that would extend to many other cartoons then and now.

Is Avatar off limits to adult fans?

There were supposed incidents of Bronycon goers either trying to kidnap a little girl or harass being falsified if not exaggerated. I won't act like some big name fans haven't behaved poorly but the general response from male fans was a resounding "Not cool, dude!" to paraphrase.

The show apparently catering to men's tastes now despite... not. Absolutely not. It was this idea that older characters like Discord or Trixie returning was not of the writers or of Hasbro's accord. Rather it was because of older fans who cared more about continuity or lore.

That's just the tip of the iceberg but a lot of it felt like it was either part of or contributed to the then growing Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist movement due to this major breach of gender roles. Especially how male fans were singled out.

~Metal Family headcanons~

These are like my... general hcs)? which means I didn't include my main hc that Glam, Ches and Vicky are polyamorous, married and started dating after Glam met Vicky, and absolutely everything that implies for the kids and the relationships between each member of the fam. Maybe I'll make a separate post for that or maybe not! Who knows lkfwnlfqnf

Glam

Bisexual

Glam has constant nightmares and ocasional night terrors ever since he ran away home and is an active sleep walker. Ches helped him through the worse ones when they were younger, and learned how to deal with them, always preferring not to wake him up but being with him until the episode passed. Vicky has learned how to deal with them, though she normally asks Ches for advice with it cuz she comes out short sometimes.

He has PTSD. I bet it's diagnosed too, he takes medication and goes to therapy, it doesn't mean he still doesn't have his bad days anyway. He's trying to get better.

Glam has talked to Vicky about his past, his father and his family. This is a direct contradiction of Alina's confirmation that Glam doesn't talk about it with anyone but man FUCK THAT. We love good communication in this house, Vicky tries her best to help him, but there's only so much she can do to help.

Glam enjoys gardening, cooking and making models, he also likes doing his make up, painting his nails and dressing up in fancy, extravagant clothes even if he has nowhere important to go.

He likes taking care of everyone's hair, and constantly helps Vicky brush her hair cuz there's so much of it, Dee when he gets stressed over how tangled it can get, buys Ches hair products so he actually takes care of it, and chases Heavy so the kid actually washes, untangles and brushes his hair.

This one is kind of weird, but I refuse to think any adult in the family is unarmed at any time. Glam owns a taser and pepper spray. They're bright pink and sparkly.

This man cried his eyes out while watching Coco. He's hell to watch movies with cuz he talks and predicts what's gonna happen during the movie, judges them with scores at the end and all.

Vicky

Also bisexual!

Vicky's the one who does everyone's laundry most of the time. She prefers it that way since she's the only one that knows how to wash their black clothes so the colors stay vibrant. (This is based on my gf shaming everyone but Vicky cuz their black clothes always look so muted and almost gray, but Vicky's whole outfit is always the same vibrant black colors, so we decided that neither Glam or the kids know how to wash dark clothes)

She has anger issues, if it isn't obvious. I think she also has PTSD, mainly survivor's guilt due to her surviving the accident her brother died in. She blames herself and cannot bear to talk about it, in some sort of deep denial. If she can't remember, it can't hurt as much, right?

She has scars on the right side of her back and her hip, from the road rash she got on her brother's accident, she never treated it due to grief and it scarred badly. Apart from that, the scar of the caesarean section from Heavy's birth. She doesn't really mind both of them, they happened, nothing to do about them.

She likes watching boxing competitions, brawling matches and motorcycle repairing on TV. Loves doing BBQ's and going to the pool. Also an enjoyer of teasing her kids, kissing and loving her husband at random times, spending time drinking and bonding with Ches and bragging about her family and punching anyone who thinks they're not that cool.

Not particularly a fan of make up, skirts and dresses or any traditionally femenine-perceived stuff. But has been making exceptions due to Glam and Ches being unashamed of being seen as femenine, and actually rocking the looks. The internalized misogyny is kind of slowly dissapearing.

Apart from the guns she carries in each arm (I mean her biceps, have you looked at the size of those?? She strong) she has brass knuckles on her at all times. Glam gifts her new ones sometimes, she loves having multiple choices to punch people teeth in.

Loves horror, thrillers and action movies. Falls asleep during rom-coms and dramas. Ironically, loves gossip and talking shit about people. Enjoys hearing Ches talks about the gossip going on in the nursery home even if she doesn't know who the hell he's talking about.

Heavy

Heavy is a trans boy! He doesn't know his sexuality yet though, he's still figuring himself out. When he's older, i think he definitely dated some men but had better luck with girls.

Heavy has had innocent crushes on some girls on his class before, but they never turn into anything more cuz he's not the best at expressing himself. He follows the bother-the-girl-to-death-until-she-hates-you gimmick, and unsurprisingly, it doesn't work.

I'm sorry to break this to u but Heavy totally had an among us phase, and uses so much reddit and twitch slang... You know he does.

Likes bullying and teasing his brother to death. You know that when Dee had his first romance, Heavy was ALL up in his business being a tease and a bad attempt at a wingman. He means well tho.

He's not squeamish at all. Also has great pain resistance. This kid has picked cockroaches with his bare hands and loves cats, of course the cats have scratched him. He's tough!

Grows up to be the charming himbo he was always destined to be.

Dee

I hc him as demisexual. Kind of inherited his dad's tastes for the takes no crap, intimidating but pretty kind of people.

Can't cook. He tries but he can only do basics like rice, cereal, chicken nuggets or eggs. Complicated meals always burn or don't taste like anything at all. It drives him crazy.

Dee was a quiet and very well behaved toddler before Heavy was born. He never threw tantrums or got whims. After Heavy was born though, and despite the fact he understood his brother was small and needed special care, he started craving attention often and cried and got mad at little things. Typical jealousy of the oldest sibling.

The first time Dee fell in love with someone, he didn't recognize it was love at first. He just thought his interest on the person was born out of curiosity and aesthetic attraction, but as soon as he realized he seeked validation and companionship, that he liked seeing them smile, that he wanted to protect them, that he yearned for more time alone with them and that he wanted more than what just a simple friendship implied, it was an instant 'oh hell no'. He wanted those feelings to get the hell away, but unfortunately, they were there to stay.

Canonically likes MLP, psychological and horror anime like Death note and Hellsing, so I'm deciding he also watched Death Parade, had a FNAF phase, is very into The Walten Files. This guy enjoys any kind of specially dark ARG's and knows a ton of lore of real crime, unsolved cases, ghost appearances and other stuff. Doesn't believe in the supernatural, but sure is entertained by it.

He's a mess at romance. Flirting? His attempts at compliments are hardly flattering. Giving gifts? The best he can manage is jewelry and you can kind of tell he asked his dad for help. Dates? He's so nervous he's silent for most of it, but begins getting comfortable and having fun if his partner really knows how to get him down from his negativity cloud.

Ches

Pansexual.

He's very good with kids. He has the patience of a saint and he's laid-back, chill and fun but still is an authority figure who knows how to put limits. Sure, he's gonna let the kids light up a house on fire BUT hey, now they know everything about fire precautions, burns and how to treat them AND how to get away with arson. What an educational evening, am I right?

Due to certain info from the "Goodbye" official comic, I headcanon Ches as depressed. I don't want to elaborate a lot 'cuz of spoilers, but... God, everything related to his mom fucking hurts, man. How did he deal with all that?

Ches has been Dee and Heavy's babysitter so many times he cannot count them with all his fingers. He learned how to put those kids to sleep almost immediately (Sing Bon Jovi's "This ain't a love song" and any cheesy love song in a slow lullaby style and they're out), which movie were their favorite as kids (Heavy loved 'Monsters Inc.' and Dee never looked away during 'Meet the Robinsons'), how to console them after nightmares (Heavy needed reassurance, sweet words, and to be with someone until he fell asleep again. Dee just had to be tucked in, get his nightlight turned on and kissed in the forehead). He practically raised those kids along with Vicky and Glam.

More than once, Dee and Heavy have slipped and called Ches "Dad". Ches immediately gets his shit eating grin on and answers "Yes, son?" and does a couple of dad jokes just to mess and embarrass them. He's actually very flattered and surprised at how proud of himself he is for being a father figure to both kids.

Has a scar on the left side of his forehead due to a bottle his mom threw at him when he was younger, around the time he met Glam. He hates the scar with passion, it's a permanent reminder of the fact she never cared, that's why he always keeps it covered with his headband. Gets sad about it sometimes.

Ches likes to spend his time with a group of grannies of the nearby nursing home. He genuinely considers them his friends and gossips and hangs out with all of them on weekends. Bingo, billiards, walks in the park, soap opera marathons, you name it. I even designed them, gave them names and backstories... God, i just love the concept too much. I'll make some art about Ches and his granny gang FOR SURE, you're NOT ready for them.

Carries a pocket knife on him at all times. This man grew up on a bad neighborhood and absolutely knows how to defend himself, he can be intimidating when he wants to be and will pose a threat if needed. He's fucking terrifying when genuinely mad. Just cause he looks harmless doesn't mean he is, darling.

My thoughts on Watching and Dreaming

I watched the episode when it premeired last night but i hit post limit so couldnt post about it. Spoilers under the cut. sorry if anything is out of order lol im sick and im just throwing everything i thought last night down on this post.

-Luz being attacked by Amity genuinely made me cry

-"My girlfriend is too big a nerd to misremember an Azura quote" -luz probably

-Lilith having the haircut from For the Future but color scheme from season 1 is a nice touch

(Human MLP AU) Rarity is in a rush since she just finished working and is now running towards her place to get ready for her date later on. However she bumps into Spike as he questions why she is in a rush. She starts getting this strange feeling like the others as she explains the situation. Spike is confused since she did just went out with some other stallion a few days ago. And then they have a conversation about that about her need to find love.

Spike wasn't expecting anyone to come near him today. Mostly because he'd been going out of his way to take the long way around to Quills and Sofa's, not for the sofas of course, but for the Quills. Twilight was already running out of the ones she had, which at this point was an outrageous pace.

So! When Rarity, one of Twilight's friends nearly ran into him on her way back, dropping a few articles of fabric that she must have been holding, and carrying with her magic along the way. One could say he was easily caught offguard.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry, I apologize, i didn't see anyone there darlin-"

Rarity's voice quietly washed away in her throat. Her expression of sudden surprise clear and concise. More so than any of their other friends, Rarity wore her heart on her sleeves. So seeing how shocked she was to see him, or be so close to him, wasn't a huge surprise to Spike.

He was at least glad she didn't start screaming bloody murder. Albeit, that could simply be the fact that she wasn't aware of what he was. Honestly, if he was being honest, he was surprised Twilight never had this reaction. Probably cause they were together since they were kids, so it just kind of grew easy on her.

Regardless, he could see that Rarity was uncomfortable.

"It's alright, I should have watched where I was going." He would need to calm her, and hopefully move on out of her way so she could get going.

"No no, it's alright." He raised a quirked brow, strange, she was obviously uncomfortable with him around. More so than even AJ, who tried to move, but was too tired. And Fluttershy who was obviously too lonely at the time to care.

Unlike them, she was completely able bodied, even if he was currently holding onto her things as he handed them over. Even her hands were shaking, something he made to not point out.

Rarity wasn't sure what it was, but she never liked being near Spike. Which, she felt horrible for... she recognized the young man. Had remembered the brief sparkle in his eye when he saw her for the first time. But... then she remembered how quickly that little glint died when she reacted to them... in a rather unlady like fashion. She tried to forget it. But... the look on his face was still clear... perhaps that's why she avoided him so much.

Not like it was difficult. "It's rather unusual to see you out here Spike." She would at least be courteous, even if she had to be on her way.

"Ah right, Twilight needs Quills, so I'm going to get her some..." He paused, knowing he should keep his mouth shut but... "Is everything alright Rarity?"

The gentle concern in his voice made her feel really bad now. "No... no nothing of the sort. I'm just in quite a rush. I have a date in a few, and I've yet to make it back home with my supplies."

He nodded, "I see I see, makes sense."

"Yes..." She didn't know what else to say, though when it came to the matters of love, she did have the habit of going on, "I do hope this one will prove to be a better date than the last one."

Spike blinked, "Isn't it the same guy?" His head quirked to the side in confusion.

"Oh! Uhm... no, it's a different gentleman."

Spike had heard about it from Twilight, Rarity was often dating different men or women, which he found strange. Mostly because it always sounded like it was her fault, and not the other persons.

"Is... is everything alright? That's the third one this week, right?"

"How... do you know that?" She didn't speak with Spike so him knowing was a bit...

"Twilight."

"Ah." That would explain it, "Yes... yes everything is alright. I just... I'm not sure i've found the one."

Spike was confused, not that he knew what dating or love was like, because... well ya know. But, that didn't seem right, not from what M... Celestia had told him before.

"Rarity, is it making you happy?"

"Pardon?"

"Uhm... I'm sorry, kind of talking out of place, and I wouldn't really know much about it. But... you don't seem happy... at least Twilight says you're always stressed after these dates. So... I just... that can't be good right?"

Rarity would have to talk to Twilight about giving her secrets away later... but it wasn't like she was wrong. "Yes well... I know that he or she is out there, I can feel it. I just... have to keep going till I find him! Even if that doesn't happen well." She really wasn't sure what to say.

Spike nodded, "I see... I just, you're really pretty, and from what Twilight says, kind. So it's just, it strikes me as odd that you're dating different people... I know... well my mother said." He breathed, he wondered if perhaps he was talking about himself more. "You have to love yourself, before you can love others. And that just kind of stuck with me." Not that he knew what that was like either... "I know what it's like putting your self worth on others opinions, but... it's not health, I would know..." The last part was under his breath, and his scowl hidden by his green spiked hair.

"Anyways, I apologize for taking your time."

He left, without much of another word, leaving Rarity there to ponder on her thoughts.

- Each time Miguel says how unscientific it is. You can't help but laugh at him. Whenever it gets to the lab scenes, he criticizes each detail. It even goes down to how cluttered a real lab should be.

- A real lab shouldn't be cluttered but Membrane has no fucking idea of how that works.

- Let's be honest, everyone knows that he doesn't know how a lab should look. Hell, when he first showed it to you, he was PROUD of the mess.

You're gonna be happy to hear this...I just started watching Cardcaptor Sakura today, and holy shit not only do I love it, but I also love how freaking META it is! I know you said you're not all that knowledgeable about Magical Girl, but this show is AWARE that it's a Magical Girl show! From Tomoyo(the main reason this show is so meta, tbh) realizing Sakura is a Magical Girl and asking if she has a transformation pose, to designing outfits for her(more on that later) to videotaping her(aka literally making a Magical Girl anime out of her Magical Girl friend), it just has fun with itself and plays with Magical Girl tropes without making a mockery of them like all those "dark" male-aimed ones do(lookin' at you, Madoka Magica and Yuki Yuna!).

And not only is it hilarious and adorable(especially with Sakura's crush on Yukito, Tomoyo's crush on Sakura, and Touya picking on Sakura, but playfully), but I love how it's riddled with girl power. While watching some of the first episodes I was looking forward to seeing Syaoran(partly because I love male Tsunderes and partly because I can't pronounce his name), and was surprised that he wasn't in the first few episodes, but more importantly I was so happy to see a show that treats its female characters with respect and shows women unironically receiving support from other women and being shown possessing power and authority.

I love Sakura and Tomoyo's friendship even if I hate the trope of "Lesbian Never Gets The Girl"(not that I think she's entitled to Sakura's affections or anything, but still.) and watching her support Sakura in her magic endeavors without being jealous or vindictive, I love that they're allowed to be independent and smart but that the show doesn't forget that they're kids, instead of making them like Manon and Chris, and I love that the show passes the Bechdel test in pretty much the first or second episode, and that pretty much every important and unimportant character we meet that's not Sakura's family members, Kero, or Yukito(plus maaaayyybe the Shadow Clow Card) are female.

Even little things, like all FOUR of Tomoyo's bodyguards in the second episode being female without there being a "reason" or the show making a big deal of it(either in a "yay girl power!" way or a "what but women can't x" way or an objectifying way) fills me with insurmountable joy. Also, I love that the show follows the Magical Girl trend of pretty much admitting that femininity is power, since frilly dresses are stated to be the most "fitting" thing for a Cardcaptor to wear, as without it, they might not be mentally up to the task, and this is an unironic truth rather than a joke(although Sakura is shown to be embarrassed, but it's much more likely that she's simply not used to that kind of gear due to not being rich as Tomoyo is.) or a gag.

I just thought I should tell you this because I know you like Cardcaptor Sakura, and with the crappy episodes that just came out of this show, I think you deserve to read an ask that's about a GENUINE girl power Magical Girl show, instead of yet more Miraculous Ladybug salt or Madoka Magica hate(not that there's anything wrong with either of those two, but it just gets grating after a while.). Overall, I'm looking forward to watching this show, since I've been looking for a Magical Girl show to watch nowadays(I've been meaning to watch Star Twinkle Precure but I can't find the third episode and all of Cardcaptor Sakura is on YouTube now, so.). So excited!

Then he responded claiming some stuff about how he keeps trying to pitch stories about straight white male characters and how nobody is accepting his offers and so this means that straight white men are underrepresented compared to everyone else. He even explicitly said, and I quote "White people are actually critically underrepresented in media right now. Especially boys."; I swear to the Goddess above.

At this point I was officially upset as a black girl, to hear this white(and presumably adult) man telling me that he was underrepresented in media compared to me, even saying that the media execs are practicing "quotas and tokenization"(and yes, he repeatedly used those terms for any instance of representation, even when I asked him politely to stop.) by replacing women with men or white people with pocs and are making white men look like incompetent doofuses.

He also kept saying stuff about how shows are always shoehorning people of color in where they don't belong by casting them in settings such as Shakespeare and medieval times when "realistically" there were no people of color during those time periods(which is obviously not true, it's just not what the history books show us.), and made a really insensitive comment about how black children in the USA today don't know the significance of having the first black president because the media supposedly already shows them black people in various professions(despite also claiming he couldn't speak to the "black experience" and yet here he is whitesplaining that shit.).

It got to the point where he was seriously and unironically using the word "blackwashing". When I pointed out to him that white men aren't underrepresented and that it's just his self-centered ego telling him that they are, that the word "blackwashing" isn't a thing, and that mis/underrepresentation in media DOES affect black kids negatively(even citing myself as an example) he went on to claim that I was being tone-deaf and that "blackwashing" is just as bad as whitewashing, and that making Ariel black is just as bad as making Jasmine white.

At this point I had to bang my head on the table and explain to him the difference; his ass still wouldn't get it. Eventually he started saying some really skeevy and hypocritical shite that white men say all the time when whining about how "oppressed and underrepresented" they are: that black people and/or women

I might be looking too deep into that but I don’t like the idea of, “Well WE squeezed in a girl and therefore YOUR SHOWS--” like it’s some sort of matter of “fairness” or that boys’ shows aren’t putting in girls out of a genuine like for them but because they “need” one or it’s some sort of obligation.

Also, we need to stop this idea that boys can’t look up to female characters and vice versa for girls. You already said it but yeah.

A few days back I read this post in which you explained how you found out your daughter's gender and I just wanted to express to you how amazing it is that you listened to her.

I keep hearing people talking about how it's wrong to let children "decide what gender they want to be" (.........) because they are "too young to really understand what they're saying" (again, .........) so it's nice to see that someone actually LISTENS. Kids need adults, especially their parents, to listen to them when they are telling them who they are.

For us as a couple it was a no brainer. We're both queer (we’re two married cis women) and we have a lot of genderqueer friends. All the evidence and research on children this young is that they understand gender as early as 2 and can know they’re not cis at that point (the little was about 26 months when she told us, and is 2 3/4 now) and that the best thing we can do as parents is to affirm her. We did have concerns about how some of our family might react and for the most part things went okay but we did have one big conflict with my MIL which has resulted in us seeing her much less, and she's not allowed to be alone with the kids. Her reaction to, "so the little told us she’s a girl...so she’s a girl," was, "at that age my brother thought he was a school bus." (To emulate you... ................) She also blamed me for dressing 'him' that way - "who picks out the little's clothes?” (she knew I did the clothes shopping) “Dressing that way doesn't make the little a girl!" which was the stupidest fucking thing to say...like...the little herself picked out those clothes when I took her thrift storing with me. I just bought what she liked. I literally have a picture of her hoarding two dresses and a skirt that she’d picked out, hugging them to her face while she sat in the cart, from a few months before she told us. She would pitch fits when she’d find something she’d like and I’d be like...little you’re a size 2t and that’s a size 7, we’re not buying it cause it won’t fit you...and she dressed in tutus and dresses for almost six months before she learned how to talk enough to share the gender thing...and we still called her by her birth gender because obviously wearing dresses doesn't make someone a girl. Hell we have lots of pictures of our older kid in a dress when he was that little (I bought like a year+ worth of clothes at thrift shops before I knew the gender of the kid I was pregnant with, since we didn’t find out ‘til he was born), and he never said he was a girl and is at the age of almost 5 very confident he's a boy (so much so that he doesn't want to do "things that girls do" except like his rubrics for deciding what are girl things are hilarious he went on this whole spiel about how Glitter Force is a girl show...while he was watching the Equestria HS spin off of MLP...and asking for sparkles on top of his blue nail polish please...anyway tangent sorry.)

What "made" the little a girl was that *she told us she's a girl* like I can't fathom why people think this is complicated? It’s not like she magically transformed one day, she was always a girl, she just couldn’t tell us. No one knows her better than she knows herself. I'm positive she knew all along, her language skills just hadn't developed enough to communicate. After she was able to tell us, and we started using the right pronouns, her behavior improved a lot. The most memorable thing - a few days after she told us she and I were sitting in the master bedroom while my wife was taking her meds. She did something cute, and I said, “awww, my sweet girl!” and she just lit up, “yes, girl!” So I asked her “does it make you happy when I call you a girl?” and she said, “yes, was sad.” (remember, she’s barely over two when this happened, so, like, not so much on sentences) and so I clarified, “you were sad before?” and she nodded and said, “yes...now happy!” 

It was mindblowing. She was so clear about how she felt and what she wanted. I can’t believe anyone, even my MIL, could have heard that conversation and not recognized that this child knew who she was. (I wrote the conversation down, for obvious reasons...we did show it to my MIL, and, well...sigh). My wife told me that she also started telling a lot of stories at bedtime about her stuffed toys feeling broken, but starting to feel better now... (my wife does the little’s bedtime, I do the big’s.)

Other than pronouns and gender id she's the same kid she's always been, her favorite colors are pink and purple, she loves dresses and skirts and rainbows (and Glitter Force, lol) and also loves trains and stuff...because she's a *kid* ffs. And if at some point she does come think this is the wrong thing for her, no harm done, we'll listen. By listening now, we've proven that. She knows she can trust us, and we'll support her and encourage her. I really don't see a losing side to this.

I saw a theory that what freaks people out is they think we're gonna give, like, hormones to a two year old? Which of course not. But if she still feels this way in a decade or so of course medical intervention will start to be a topic...but by then she'll have felt this way for years so what's the problem? It’d be cruel to force her, a girl, to go through male puberty, and anyone thinks that an eleven or twelve year old doesn’t understand enough to make that decision has never met an eleven or twelve year old, like, ever.

I can only assume that the adults like you mention can't remember what it felt like to be a kid. By the time I was the age my big is my parents had gotten divorced and I thought I was a very big, mature girl, and if anyone had tried to dismiss me the way I see many adults dismiss kids I would have been livid. I guess I was lucky, the adults in my life mostly took me seriously (and now those same adults - my parents - have been great toward the little, especially my mom, which proves its not an age or race thing since my dad is a 79 year old straight white god fearing literally runs his church's services once a month dude, and my step mom and mom are both 76 and also white, and they've all been super accepting.) To me it seems stupidly obvious, like...my kids may not know some stuff but they know themselves and I learn more just by listening to them than I'd ever figure out on my own.

My job as their mom is to help them figure out who they are, not force them to be who I think they should be. And I hate that more parents aren't like that, sigh, but I think more are now than ever before, and things will slowly but surely get better. I have to believe that...

(Sorry this got long, by necessity I've thought about this a lot...we're very lucky, family, friends and community the only person who got really weird on us was my MIL, and even she really is trying now...)

shout out to Amphibia (and Adventure Time, too) for including subtitles when a character is speaking another language (Anne’s dad speaking Thai, Lady and Lee speaking Korean).

I wish more movies and TV shows did this, specially children’s media.

when I was little, I grew up on a country that mainly spoke Spanish, it was the only language I knew. but, then, I started watching My Little Pony in English with Spanish subtitles and that really helped me learn English. I started reading faster and faster and, eventually, I didn’t need the subtitles anymore. 

whoever made those Youtube videos of the MLP episodes with the color coded subtitles is my fucking hero and I don’t even remember what channel it was. 

I want English-speaking kids to have subtitles when a character speaks another language, it helps the story so much and removes the barrier between people.

I seriously hope that other children’s media follows suit. I want there to be subtitles when Camila Noceda speaks Spanish, when General Amaya speaks ASL (when The Dragon Prince comes back in 100 years).

I hate it when the captions just say “(Speaking Spanish)” instead of actually telling you what the characters are saying. how hard is it? “(Spanish) Don’t worry, everything will be okay!” “(Spanish) Nothing will work, unless I make it work!”. there, I did it.

TLDR; subtitles aren’t bad. most people can read and they don’t mind them. scrath that, they need them. if anyone doesn’t like subtitles, for whatever weird reason, they can just ignore them.

1. Is a light skinned white passing latina in an animated movie made by yankees. Not a lot of light skinned white passing latinos in movies like these. The only other one I can think of is Angie Diaz (Marco's mom from Star vs the forces of evil).

2. She's 50 and she has a 5 year old son so the math tells me she got pregnant at 44, which is badass. Getting pregnant at all is badass but like, most women at 44 are going through menopause and shit.

3. Is just really funny and expressive and her design and everything, she's sooooooo cool.

4. Having just the best relationship with her husband. I love watching them dance during We Don't Talk About Bruno. (Also, Félix took her last name, which is just a YES)

Ladybug and Chat Noir successfully convince the rest of Paris (or at least, the ones that don’t know the truth) that they’re in a polyamorous quartet with Marinette and Adrien.

the magazines go nuts with Ladrienettechat speculation and they snap pictures of all of them. Adrien Agreste becomes a poly enby bi icon and the Agreste brand is more popular than ever. photographers scramble to catch a glympse of Maribug and Adrichat by themselves but they only find (photoshoped and edited by Nino) pictures and videos online.

reporters follow Adrienette around trying to get them to reveal the secret identities of their boyfriend and girlfriend. the ice cream dude is losing his shit.
