Hi Gomz! Been so inspired by your art, I'm considering picking up digital drawing again haha. What device and app do you use? What would you recommend if I wanna restart drawing? Would be great if you can answer with doodles :D thanks!

Hello Cumi! Thank you very much for this ask, to think I can inspire other people with my doodles means a lot to me <;3 ((def not cryin rn))

In this ask response, I'll include some links that you can check out for the appropriate stuff! I hope you can understand some things by the end of it :D

Disclaimer: im no professional, so most of this is just based on my experience!!

Okie dokie first off:

What device and app do I use?

I draw using a drawing pad, the Deco Mini7 on my laptop, and I use Krita to draw :3

Krita is free to use! You can download it here, or if you can afford it, clip studio paint is definitely a popular choice out there, some people use adobe too!

I will say it may seem complicated at first BUT it is relatively easy to learn once you get the hang of it, there have a full tutorial on their website with videos included if you wanna know more! digital art apps usually works the same way, once you get the fundamentals you can draw on any app tbh

Or if you do want to start using Krita, then you can send me another ask in the future and I'll share you my tips and tricks (which are honestly pretty scuff HAHA))

Other recommendation if you want to draw on phone/tablet/ipad!

2. I know you didnt ask this, but I wanted to share my experience starting out with digital painting/using the drawing pad for the first time

the thing about digital painting is that there's a lot of features here and they serve to make the process easier, but it can be quite overwhelming when you start off! examples are layers

drawing pad also means getting used to not looking at the pad and the screen at the same time + getting used to the pen, I had a hard time with it but the more I use it, the more i got used to it :D

funnily enough, I actually gotten this drawing pad bcuz I started using lecture notes online through pdf and such xD

3. What would you recommend if I want to restart drawing?

Not really sure what you mean about restarting, but Im assuming like finding a new artstyle or trying out different art medium is it? (like from traditional pencil doodle to stylus pen) but if you mean literally restarting then uhhhh XD I guess you gotto start drawing then haha?

I think my motto when it comes to drawing is that no matter what it is, just do it

"its gonna look bad" its okay bcuz at least I drew it, yk? xD the thing with art is the more you draw, the more you're familiar with it, the less intimidating it will become(tho it can still be scary, but hey! baby steps right?)

perhaps what I would recommend is testing out all kinds of artstyle, ask yourself:

what am I going to draw? ex: I wanna do self potraits! I wanna do silly doodles of my favourite characters!

what style do I wanna do? ex: Chibi, non-chibi, landscapes

Sometimes, you won't know those answers to those questions until later on, which is exciting dont you think? one day I said "im gonna draw Ghost in full gears" then the next I decided "actually nah screw that im gonna make Ghost cute" -w-

didchu know my first few digital doodles were done on OneNote? haha yes! and on my lecture notes nonetheless pfttt (this was around october 2022)

When in doubt, always ALWAYS start small and simple. Draw a circle, draw a blob, anything! Make it manageable :D

You can, of course, challenge yourself and go big! the most important key is you're drawing for yourself :3 and you should do something you're happy with!

well, sometimes there are moments where you wont like what you draw or artblock, when it comes to those time Id recommend taking a break xD

Finding your artstyle is an ever growing journey, I would suggest looking through websites like Artstation or Pinterest and collecting artstyle that you like! then learn from it, replicate it, trace it(AS LONG AS YOU DONT CLAIM IT AS YOUR OWN AND YOU DO IT FOR PRACTICE PURPOSES!!!) and study it :3

like heck I just found a new artstyle yesterday literally HAHA so you know, enjoy the fun!

Bluebiscuits, very cute artstyle and the videos are always soothing and calming to watch! they did this video about finding your artstyle which I highly recommend! their face drawing tutorial is also really good :3

I also watch tppo occasionally, his video focuses more on how he study other people's artstyle and then implementing it on his own! If you like art studies you can give it a go, like this one!

practice, practice and practice! things like art takes a while to master and get happy with :) like i said, keep trying and dont forget, all of this is for fun!

In last night's mabi session I finished the Astrologer quest line I'm p sure. I didn't get any more quests after the last one I did so unless there's a special trigger for the next one I think i did it all. Yeah the story between Neal and Delaney is super cool! Honestly the part where Delaney laments about how people have these physical bodies, not even knowing that everything they come with is a luxury she can't have, it hits so hard. I hope we can help her ;+;

After those quests tho I didn't really know what to do with myself lol

You'll know when you've finished all the Astro quests when you have both the Battle Astro and Crafting Astro skills; there's two main sets of quests with the second being a lot shorter. If you've got the crafting/fishing skills for Astro then you've finished them.

The main issue with Mabi in my opinion, is that as a whole it doesn't do a lot to give the player much in the way of guided incentive. By which I just mean, there's PLENTY to do; and no noticeable reason to go do it. The reason is absolutely there if you already know, but if you don't; there's almost no way to know in the first place.

This is an issue I've had with Mabinogi for a long time, because it honestly hinders new players the most; which is the playerbase we should be you know, fostering and helping grow. Instead Mabinogi offers a lot of content to those who know it exists; which is mostly the veteran players or those who scour the wiki for hours on end. Both of whom are likely to already be committed players because either you've been playing for a long time, or you're someone who's willing to and likely enjoys scouring the wiki for hours on end.

Aside from ranking your newfound Astro skills; all of which are exceptionally good for literally any potential build you might be going for (and can be augmented/customized as you see fit whenever you want.) There's plenty to check out and do if you're not sure what to do next.

Since I don't know how far you've gotten in the game I'll start from the lower end and work my way up.

If you don't already have Echostones unlocked, there's a questline called Nocturne of Wind (previously Memento) completing this questline will unlock Echostones, you can use up to 3 at any given time, and they can be upgraded. Each Echostone corresponds to a specific stat and can grant various passive buffs and bonus stats accordingly. This also unlocks the Sidhe Finnachaid content, allowing you to run various dungeons associated with the questline.

To begin this questline,

You must reach a Cumulative Level of 500.

You must pick up "Nocturne of Wind" from the Receivable Quest Board.

During this quest you'll also unlock the skill "Dance of Death" which is a Music skill that deals damage and cuts enemy defense, so it can be rather useful to have on hand for later game content where enemy defense scaling gets kind of stupid.

If you haven't already finished Blaanid's questline it's a sort of fill-in for a worthwhile tutorial. I personally think it kind of cheapens the overall journey of the game since it gives you a ton of skills granted via quests, and boosts you to total level 20,000 by the end of it. However I know that a lot of new players have used Blaanid's questline to get a foothold in the game and find further content to enjoy so I try to always make sure people are aware the content exists.

Aside from giving you a full set of armor, a pet, and a whole bag of weapons (that rival some of the late game weapons since they're fully upgraded and can easily carry you to the mid-late game.) It also gives you "Halos" for completing each of the books. Halos are a permanent upgrade that grant movement speed, bonuses to all stats, and additional AP when leveling. The questline covers pretty much a little of everything and will culminate in having you do your generation quests, awarding 1k levels and extra skills/bonuses for each completed generation. If you've already completed a generation it will retroactively count and you can just grab the rewards for free.

If you've hit level 20,000 then grab yourself some Grandmaster talents, because that's the level where you unlock Arcanas. If you're not aware of what Arcana are yet, they're essentially special "classes" you actually have to lock into one, but they mix the properties of 2 grandmaster talents, and don't lock you out of any skills (aside from other Arcana skills.) Currently there are 4 Arcana, with 2 more coming soon. Those being:

Elemental Knight, for Warrior and Mage which allows you to infuse elements into your weapons granting them bonus properties as well as giving you new melee skills like Shattering Windmill that freezes enemies, Dynavolt Smash which is an electric long ranged smash AoE; and Flaming Assault Slash which can be used to jump to enemies erupting into a flame AoE and jumping away to safety. Among other various benefits, it also allows you to cast advanced magics without the need of a wand, using your melee weapon instead. This is a solid DPS option for melee players who need an option against melee resistant enemies.

Dark Diviner, for Chain Slash and Mage which allows you to mix your mana and dorcha to use very powerful dark magic. I'm less familiar with it only having unlocked it recently, but you can do everything from powerful laser attacks to dragon fireballs, to silencing enemies so they can't cast magic. You can also amplify your magic attacks. This is a great DPS option for mage focused players, and one of the most popular Arcana for good reason.

Harmonic Saint, for Cleric and Bard which is not only my personal favorite and the one I use the most; but also the dedicated Healer of the Arcana classes. Allowing you to use extremely powerful upgraded healing, healing over time, shield allies from harm entirely for a short duration, or even mix music buffs to allow for two effects to be applied simultaneously. At higher levels you even get debuffs to break enemy defense, and a large AoE healing attack that regens all your stats, grants you heavy stander; and deals constant damage over time. Most people say Harmonic Saint is bad, this is because they think DPS is the only option; but when you're able to revive them without feathers, or instantly heal their entire health bar while their Vital Surge is on cooldown, they will appreciate having a Harmonic Saint on the team :P

Alchemic Sharpshooter, for Archer and Battle Alchemist which allows you to mix your alchemy elements into your ranged attacks. As far as DPS options go, this is a game changer for Archery. You get 4 primary instant cast attacks each using one of the primary elements, you then mix those elements with another of your choice to induce various effects like freezing or blinding enemies, dealing extra damage, or I believe cutting defense; the unique skills each have their own effects like a volley AoE that allows you to charge it to narrow the scope but ramp up the damage, an explosive shot, a damage over time attack, and a wind shot that pulls enemies. Once 2 of your elements are fully charged you can use your 5th skill which lets you combine two elements into a powerful 3 shot burst attack. If you enjoy archery this is a must have arcana in my book.

These each come with a questline focused around a newly introduced NPC who originated the skills; you'll have a short questline for each that shows how they came upon their powers and then they'll teach you how to use them. It's a cute way of doing things and all the new characters are really great. I love their storylines and I can't wait for the Lancer and Shield Arcanas coming in the next generation (I believe).

If you need to grandmaster some talents, no worries; head to Tara once you've hit the Master rank in a talent and check by the tara castle gates, you'll see a man named Lezarro there, talk to him about Grandmaster quests; he'll give you 3 a day, completing each will give you a seal, once you collect 10 you can become a grandmaster in the specific talent earning extra bonuses for that talent and of course once you have two corresponding to an Arcana you're set to grab that as well.

If you're not up for any of this, or maybe just not this far along yet; you could also pick up the Pet Trainer skills if you've not already done those quests. Once you get the Fynni Blossoming skill you're on the fast track to making a lot of gold really easily, which as a casual fashion player myself, earning at the very least 1.2m a week on passive income doesn't hurt. If you need to start the pet trainer questline all you'll need to do is track down price and buy either of his Fynn Bell items. Then just equip it and you'll get a quest to begin that chain. During those quests you'll get a pet, and also gain access to Mag Mell which is a fae land that contains 2 pet dungeons (you literally have to run them alongside your pet and they're kinda tricky without a party as they're full of actual proper mechanics you need to work alongside your fellow players and pets to complete.) Along with it's own crafting system, a pet upgrade system, and a few unique NPCs.
