in Take Me Back, Tom says to Becky that "there's an alternate reality where we're now a family". For Tom, Tim is an inseparable part of his life. Even as he is rediscovering himself and his love for Becky, Tim comes first. Even though Tom is trying to put his past behind him, he refuses to leave behind Tim.

On the other hand, Becky says "there's an alternate reality where it's only you and me". For Becky, Tom is a much needed escape from her own life and past. She is just seeking someone to accept her and what she has done. Tom is the first person that she told (that we know of) and he is immediately understanding.

Both are looking to each other to help overcome their pasts. They are trying to move on in their own respective ways.

Holloweane focuses because I love them. Holly is kinda Wake. Ended up in the 9th trying to break into the tomb and unleash Webby who would be the key to toppling Wiggly’s reign. The baby is Hannah but she ends up in the 4th somehow. Some big fire happened as a result of her failed mission killing a lot of the adult population of the 9th. Only youngest children and oldest are left alive. So more people than in gtn but they are not doing great. 15 years have passed before the letter comes. Duke wants to go to gain more resources for his house (I think Holloway would’ve talked him out of asking for help by insulating he might be blamed for the disaster or something. She was not loyal to him when they first met she just used him to not die on a random planet on enemy territory. But they like each other by the time the story starts but Holly is still sneaky and not telling him everything. They can have a pool scene later though where she tells him everything.) Holloway is very skeptical of it but also really wants to leave the 9 houses and this is the only chance she’s had in 15 years.

John’s his cav so either he just had that corpse lying around or I might change whose he brings to Waylon Hall (Canaan House). Alt ideas: Xander, Schaffer, Infected Paul. Wait. Actually made inevitable could be fun. I might make it Paul.

Steph hates Tessburger but her dad assigned her cav. Tessburger dies at some point and Pete becomes her cavalier. Steph live with boe. Tessburger dies.

Hannah is the much more powerful necromancer but not actually related by blood to the line so her house has marketed her as a pair with Lex. Her being adopted is a well kept secret. Lex and Ethan are very protective of her but can be overbearing when she wants to explore. Survive and main group in ntn equilvent.

The heir used to be Bill’s wife but then she got promoted to actually in charge. She divorced Bill to get a new cavalier, which caused quite a stir. So now Bill’s with Alice and he’s trying to be happy with his lot, he loves his daughter, but also hates the situation that got him here and has a lot of resentment for his ex-wife. Alice is not happy her dad is her cavalier because she wanted Deb. Die. Well maybe one of them can live.

Ruth is the necromancer because she deserves to be the center of attention for once. However she require two cavaliers to keep her in check. On previous diplomatic missions people rejected this and were quickly humbled by how much chaos she can cause when not reigned in. So she’s allowed to break tradition. Richie ends up as her main cav and Pete goes off with Steph later. Survive with boe.

Tom is having a bad time. Idk exactly what happened yet but Becky was his cav and Jane died at some point and was probably a recent for a long time which messed with her brain so she got super jealous of them and basically Jane’s a car happened. Relatively recent development and Tom is very uncomfortable with the whole situation but has no idea what to do about it besides listen to whatever Jane wants. They probably die.

Grace gets to be the 8th because it’s perfect. Most of the other house assignments were more iffy though there are reasons behind them. But she had to be 8th. Max as her cav and she hates it. But also likes it. Max is very much like Gideon and Grace is very Harrow. If I was not so Holloweane obsessed they would probably be the main pair for this. Grace ascends to lyctorhood.

I saw a few people hc Steph as Jewish and I have adopted that headcanon ever since. I don't really know how I feel about Solomon being Jewish tho with him being a rich asshole and all so let's say just her mom was(/is?). Aside from her there isn't really a character I hc as Jewish all the time tbh but I like the idea of Richie being Jewish bc Lipschitz lowkey kinda sounds like a Jewish last name and he's one of my faves, and Jewish Ethan bc I read a really cute fic where he celebrated Chanukkah with Lex and Hannah and we need more Jewish himbos. I would probably say Bill and Alice since idk they just give me the vibes if it wasn't for them canonically going to church womp womp.

So first of all, the rink kids happen after Yellow Jacket but in a timeline where Sof isn’t one of the kids in the Hive by the end

He’s just been in enough situations where John has called him son that he actually pursued a mentor relationship with Paul

And Paul just gets included in family things

But like… MacNamara is just a bit too close in age to have officially adopted Paul. So it’s like. A mutual understanding thing. Found family.

As for the Fosters… Holloway could feel them trying to leave the town

Because like that town doesn’t want to let them go.

And they legitimately struggle with leaving

It gives her enough time to make it to the edge of town and have a talk with them about what’s going on

And again Lex is too old for adoption, so for her it’s more symbolic

But Holloway takes them in, at first just to help Hannah with her gift

I can’t believe nobody’s written a ‘Black Friday characters watch the musical’ fanfic yet. They can be taken from the very end, right at or after midnight. Thinking the people who prevented Wiggly’s takeover of Earth deserve an explanation of the day’s events, Webby transports them all to a cinema in the White part of the Black and White. There’s so much you could put in it:

If Ethan’s soul really is in the Black and White and it wasn’t just Wiggly creating a vision, Webby can free him from the Black so he can watch too. He could stay dead at the end but at least have time to say his goodbyes, potentially becoming a new spiritual companion to Hannah and Lex the way Webby is to Hannah; or Webby or even Hannah could bring him back to life.

Oki so tell me about this Caleb James thing it looks interesting.

Also, give me some found family headcannons for califormia and Macnamander on the run pls I love them.

I get to ramble about both yay! :D (Sorry for the delay, got caught up in a meeting.)

Also, this is gonna be long so here is your break!

(And trigger warnings for: corrupt government groups; unethical experiments on children; kidnapping; death; mentions of bad family lives; violence;

Okay, gonna start out with the corrupt!peip au because it is the first one I want to talk about rn. (If you want to go straight to Caleb James, there is a marker for where that begins.)

So in the beginning, it is just John, Hannah, and Lex on the run together. At first, Lex really doesn't like John because she is a rebellious teenager and he works for the people who have just been psychologically tormenting her. But Hannah trusts him immediately (also helps that Webby tells her to trust him as well) and eventually Lex starts warming up to him.

During their time together on the run Lex and John form this weird snarky sarcastic father-daughter relationship where like 80% of what they say to each other is sarcasm, but Lex still doesn't fully trust him. Then at one point, they are staying in this small town under fake aliases and on the spot, Lex comes up with a lie that she and Hannah are John's daughters.

Hannah and John also bond a lot because they both have ASD and also John is really good at helping her out when she is having a panic attack. They don't spend a lot of the story directly interacting mainly because Lex is protective and she doesn't trust John at the start, but eventually they spend some time together and he kinda unofficially adopts him.

Then eventually Ethan turns up! Yay! John almost instantly adopts him as his son, and they bond a lot early on over their mutual love of mechanics and working with their hands. I don't have much of a plan for when Ethan arrives. But he probably arrives kinda wounded ('cause running from the government is dangerous) and John helps patch him up which instantly wins a bunch of approval from Lex. (Especially because they had gotten into an argument shortly before Ethan shows up.)

Then after a while (like a solid couple of months for the characters), we finally have the return of Xander! John is overjoyed to see him again and they have a very sweet reunion which is kinda interrupted by peip soldiers trying to kill them... again...

Xander is not really a person who gets along with kids much (social anxiety!Xander my beloved), but he eventually befriends them. Plus, him and Ethan bond over both of them having to go on month-long searches for the people they love.

Also, Xander and Hannah bond over art, because I feel like that, would be adorable and I am a big fan of artist!Xander as well.

So yeah, that is what I have planned for our chaotic weird found family who are on the run from the government.

Now onto my personal original story:

Caleb James

"My name is Caleb James, I'm seventeen years old, and last week- I died."

I don't quite remember where this opening sentence came to me, but as soon as it did I was immediately hooked to this story that didn't even exist.

This is a story about a teenager who lived in a small town in a small family with a boring life. I mean sure there was always legends of ghosts and ghouls, but what small town doesn't?

His family wasn't anything strange, his dad was the local town pastor, his mum is a stay-at-home mum who sells pyramid schemes to her neighbours and friends, his older sister is a rebellious stoner, his younger brother is the golden child with his entire life planned out ahead of him.

But Caleb's just Caleb. He's the middle child, no expectations, no worries, no controversies, he is a boring kid with nothing important going on.

And then he died, he doesn't quite know how he did, but he's dead and buried. But his soul isn't in heaven or hell- it is in the wheatfields.

A week after he died he woke up in his childhood home all alone, the power still works, but there is no signal or internet and the tv is nothing but static. But there is something strange when he goes outside, his house isn't on the street he's been on for his entire life.

His house is in the middle of endless wheatfields.

He tried going through the wheatfields and it took him all day, but he ended right back up at his house. As if the world was looping on itself with the endless fields.

The story covers him trying to find out where he is, what happened to him, and what the creature in the wheatfields is. It follows both his afterlife in the Wheatfields and his life back when he was alive.

So yeah! Here are my rambles about corrupt!peip and also Caleb James! I really hoped you liked learning about what I have planned out and what these stories have to hold.

The futures priceless babe

TW: alcoholism, abusive parenting, panic attack

Ethan Green was 16 the first time Lex put eyeliner on them. It had always been a long running joke between the two of them that Lex would have been a hot dude and Ethan the prettiest girl. So they had put Lex's hair in a ponytail under a hat and given her a fake emo dude fringe. She'd laughed her ass off and taken a whole bunch of shitty pictures before turning to Ethan and saying "Your turn". 

They'd protested and tried to wiggle away but Lex, not one to give up easily, had pinned them down and to the best of her ability drawn shaky eyeliner on them. They'd complained the whole time but then something on Lex's face changed and they stopped. 

"Holy shit Ethan, I know this was a joke but you look really good" 

"You're kidding me. Me? Look good? In makeup?" 

"See for yourself" 

Lex pointed at the small mirror above the sink and Ethan went to look. 

"Holy shit". Lex was right, they did look really good in makeup. They looked different. But a good different. And it made them happy in a way they couldn't explain. 

Later that night, when they were back in their own house and the eyeliner had been safely washed off to avoid endless questions from their dad, they did some googling. They learned a lot that night and fell asleep happier than they had in weeks. 

They come out as non binary a week later.

The second time was different. It had been about 6 months since then and nothing had changed. Lex and Hannah came round a lot, school was boring, they smoked, they laughed, things were normal. Ethan pretended not to notice that both of them were getting thinner. They pretended not to see the bruises in the places Lex would only show to them. It was an unspoken rule between them that no one talked specifically about what was going on with their parents. It was always "mum's a bitch" or "dad's being difficult". But they couldn't ignore it when Lex and Hannah showed up at their place at 3 am in the pouring rain. 

Ethan had smuggled them inside, being careful not to wake their dad and sat them down in their room. Lex was frantic. She was all over the place, not speaking in full sentences and pacing around Ethan's room like she was trapped. 

"Lex. Lex. Lex!" She spun round to look at them. "We don't have to tell me what's going on if you don't want to but please calm down. Come sit on the bed, I'll get you and Hannah some clean clothes and then we can talk, yeah?" 

She just stared at them. Hannah was sat in the corner biting on her chewy necklace harder than they'd ever seen, staring into space with tears rolling silently down her face.

They didn't know what to do.

Luckily for them, Lex still had half a brain so she got Hannah her blanket and a pillow from Ethan's bed and laid her down on the floor where she was. Hannahs sniffles quickly turned to snores and that seemed to settle Lex a bit. She turned back to Ethan. 

"I'm so sorry" She came over to sit next to him on the bed. "Mum.. she.. I thought she was going to try and kill us E. She was so angry. I've never seen her like that before. She's usually... well she's usually a dick." Lex gave a sad laugh before continuing "But tonight was something different. She accused Hannah of stealing her vodka and I just couldn't stay there with her yelling and throwing shit and I had nowhere else to go and I'm so so sorry" 

Ethan stared at her. "You have no reason to be sorry. That's.. god Lex I don't even know what to say. How can I help?" 

"Hug me? Please?" 

So they hug. And the hug turned into cuddling, which turned into spooning and Ethan was almost asleep when Lex says 

"Ethan. Is that an eyeliner pencil?" 

That woke them up like nobody's business. They'd completely forgotten about it amongst all the chaos but they'd bought it yesterday and had been wanting to try it for themselves. 

"Um.. yes?"

"Why?"

"Why what?" 

"Why is the sky blue. What d'you think? Why do you have an eyeliner pencil?" 

Usually Ethan would be embarrassed beyond belief but Lex is smiling and after today that's such a relief that they just go along with it. 

"..to do eyeliner"

"On you?"

"Yeah" 

"Oh. Okay"

There's a moment of silence before Lex speaks again. 

"Do it for me?"

"What?"

"Put it on. I wanna see you in it." 

Something about that gives Ethan butterflies, though they'd never ever admit it. So they do. It's their first time putting it on so they're shaky and it comes out wonky but the look on Lex's face is worth it. For a split second she absolutely melts, her face just lights up and she looks at Ethan like they're the prettiest person on the planet. They feel their face go red and suddenly feel very exposed and awkward. They laugh through it and call her a dumbass for wanting to see them in eyeliner at a time like this but deep down they're so happy.

Lex pulls them onto the bed and their heart is racing but she just says "I may be an idiot but you do look good in eyeliner". They fall asleep cuddling and Ethan wakes up the next morning with panda eyes and (after much teasing from Hannah) learns the importance of makeup remover.

It's been a year since Lex and Hannah moved in with Paul and Emma. Emma teaches Lex how to cook something that isn't pot noodle and Paul and Hannah just seem to get each other. It's basically the perfect life for them. Ethan is trying very hard not to be jealous but it's really hard when at the end of a day of being part of a happy family, they have to come back to a quiet house that smells of dust and is full of anger and fear. 

That's when they start drinking. They know it's wrong. They know but they can't help it. It starts off as a one off thing. One evening they've just had enough of everything. They know they should call Lex but it just hurts to see her living the life that they so desperately want. It's selfish. It's ridiculous. They don't care. So they drink. And it helps. To start with it really helps. They're a lot happier because they know they have an out. If things get too much they'll have a few (or more than a few) beers and it goes away. But then they start to want it more. It's almost constant. The need is just sitting there at the back of their brain. 'This would be more fun drunk' 'god this class is so boring, gin would help you make it through' 'ugh god Paul shut up and let me get home so I can get blackout'. That's when they know it's out of their control. And it freaks them the fuck out. But it's okay because they can still hide it. 

Until one day Lex shows up unexpectedly. She lets herself in as usual and comes up to Ethan's room. She knows something's off as soon as she walks in. The lights are off, the curtains are shut and Ethan is lying on their bed. To start with she thinks they must have just been tired and fallen asleep until she steps further into the room and trips over a bottle. Her heart stops. 

"Lex" 

"Ethan" her voice is shaky "What is going on here"

" 'm sorry lex. 'm not your mum, promise" 

She turns the light on. Their room is a tip. The floor is covered in dirty clothes, the underneath of their bed is full of bottles and their bed clearly hasn't been changed in months. But it's how Ethan looks that scares her the most. They're lying almost fully naked in their bed. Their skin is pale and their hair is greasy but that's not what's making Lex tear up right now. They've taken their eyeliner pencil and drawn all over themselves. Circled ever scar, every bruise, every place that they've been hit. They're covered.

The rest of that day moves like clockwork, robotic and stiff and uncomfortable. Ethan doesn't remember any of it but they're later told by Lex that Paul and Emma came over. They took them back to their house and sat them in the shower. Lex says that they tried to drag them to bed but they kept wanting to apologise to Hannah. They cried the whole time.

Ethan has been sober for 3 months and every day they are more like their old self. Lex and Hannah start to trust them again and it feels good. They have bad days of course but on the whole they're doing a lot better. 

One day Lex invites them over to hers and the whole family sit them down. Paul speaks first. 

"Ethan. We know you've struggled in the past but you've been doing really well as of recently. We're all very proud of you." Everyone agrees and Ethan starts to tear up. "We've discussed it as a family and we want to adopt you" 

"What Paul is trying to say" Emma chips in "is that if you want to move in with us you're more than welcome to. We can't officially adopt you because you're 18 but if you want to get out of your house, god knows I'd want to, you can do that here."

"You're serious?" Ethan looks at Lex in disbelief but she just grins and nods at them. "Absolutely"

"Holy shit. Holy shit! Yes oh my god yes, please!" 

Lex leaps at Ethan and tackles them into a hug. "You don't have to say please you dumbass" 

Over the next couple of weeks they slowly sneak Ethan's stuff out and move it into Lex's room. The night they officially move in, Hannah gives Ethan a makeover to celebrate.

They woke with a start. Rain was hammering against the window and the thunder was almost constant. Ethan froze. They'd always hated storms ever since they were a little kid. Something about them just made them stressed. Now they're shaking in fear at this fucking storm and Lex is right there. She's never seen them like this before. They start to panic. There's so much happening and the storm is outside and they don't want Lex to wake up and what if Hannah hears them crying and- 

They feel Lex's hand on their shoulder. Without meaning to, they curl into an even tighter ball and start sobbing. They'd hoped Lex would never see them like this, it's so fucking embarrassing.

"Ethan" 

They can't even look at her. She pauses, figuring out what to do.

"E, please, focus on your breathing. In for four, hold for four, out for four. Like you do with Hannah when she's struggling. Can you do that for me?" 

Ethan still doesn't move but they do what she's saying and soon they've calmed down a bit. 

"There we go that's better. Can you look at me?" 

They shake their head. Thunder crashes again outside and they flinch. It clicks in Lex's head. 

"Oh! Is it the storm that's bothering you?" 

Ethan almost starts crying again but nods. "I'm sorry" he mutters "it's stupid"

"Hey" Lex laughs gently "It's not stupid at all. C'mere, lie down. It's just a storm it's not gonna hurt you" 

Lex grabs Ethan's new eyeliner and doodles on their arms to calm them down like Emma does for her when she's having a bad night. Later on, Ethan will remember what it was she drew and get a tattoo of a tiny little hand drawn house with two little stick figures in the garden.

They lie together in the dark for a while. Every time there's a roll of thunder Ethan scootches closer to Lex until they're basically spooning her. She turns round so they're face to face and even though the storm hasn't calmed outside, all Ethan can think about is how close she is and the feel of her breath on their neck and they want to kiss her so badly it hurts. So they do. And she kisses back. And it's not perfect because Ethan is still half crying and Lex is way too eager but they're both so happy. They fall asleep that night with Ethan's head on Lex's chest, listening to her heartbeat. Ethan never worries about another storm again.

The day they move into their own apartment makes them both cry. Emma tells them about a thing her sister used to do whenever she moved house and they decide to do it together, the whole family. They get out sharpies and Ethan uses their eyeliner and they write on the walls of the living room. Dreams, hopes, wishes, memories they never want to forget and moments they want to last forever. They all cry and laugh and at the end of the day they sit on the floor and eat cake in a room full of boxes and love. Ethan draws a love heart on each of them with the eyeliner and none of them rub it off. 

One day Lex will put eyeliner on Ethan on their wedding day and Hannah will call them both pretty. It will be one of their favourite memories, but that night, falling asleep with each other in their new apartment. That's the happiest they've ever been.

As Hannah would put it, it had been a bad day. Lex’s boss had yelled at her for snapping at a customer, her bike got a flat tire on the way back to Mr. Houston’s place, where she’d been staying ever since the whole Wiggly incident.

God, the thought of it made her shudder, and despite the cold, she wiped the sweat off her palms as she opened the door with the key Mr. Houston had made her when he’d officially filed the adoption paperwork.

It was certainly weird, having a house, her own bedroom, a family who cared for her more than her mother ever had, but it made her stomach all tingly and her chest warm and fluttery. It wasn’t a bad weird at all, in fact, the opposite.

“Lex!” 

A little blur of yellow plaid sprinted at her, tackling Lex in a hug. She stumbled back a little bit, but immediately hugged back, smiling.

“Hey, banana!” Lex ruffled Hannah’s hair (shorter, almost shoulder-length; she’d let Ms. Barnes cut it a while back, preferring the lighter feeling) and knelt down to untie her boots. “Good day, huh?��

“Yep!” The girl was all smiles, fully contagious, and instantly caught by Lex. 

She kicked off her shoes, shrugged off her coat and hung it by the door, then let herself be led to the living room, where, surprise surprise, Ethan was lounging on the couch, with doodles up and down his arm, quite obviously done by Hannah.

After the Black Friday from Hell, Hannah had barely talked at all, preferring to just draw out her thoughts, which worried Lex beyond imagination when she saw the pictures. Sketches of Wiggly, drawings of Ethan hurt, laying there, crumpled on the floor… when she saw them and asked Hannah about it, she shrugged, her little eyes filling up with tears, and said: “I saw him.”

But as time passed, summer came and went, and Hannah’s art had changed. No more blood reds and sickly greens, but pastel blues, bright yellows, violets and rose red, all the colors she used to love. And who to be a better canvas than the most patient person either of them knew, Ethan?

When he saw Lex, finally, as she was sneaking up on him to scare him, he immediately pulled her into a hug, kissing her hair, her nose, her cheeks, anywhere he could reach.

It had become a sort of assurance for them, and Lex wasn’t about to complain.

“Hi.”

“Hi.”

Hannah giggled, crawling up onto the couch to sit between them, and Ethan kissed her hair as well, causing Lex to smile, leaning her head on his shoulder.

“You still wanna watch that movie, banana-split?” Ethan offered after a few more minutes, and Hannah nodded, saying something about snacks, before getting up and going to the kitchen, leaving the two teens alone.

“How was your day?” Ethan asked quietly, reaching for Lex’s hand, which she gladly took. 

Lex sighed, shrugging. “Honest answer? Shit. This lady wouldn’t stop yelling at me, and then Frank started bitching at me for standing up to her, then I had to walk home… it sucked.”

Ethan nodded, and pulled her closer, leaning his head on hers. “Hannah wanted to wait till you got home to watch anything. She missed you today, babe.”

“Missed her too.” Lex whispered, then huffed out a laugh. “And you.”

“You know we love you, right?” 

Lex nodded, closing her eyes for a moment and just letting the scent and warmth of her boyfriend take over her senses. 

“I love you too.”

And yeah, maybe her day was shit, but as she, Hannah, and Ethan slowly fell asleep on that couch, soon joined by Ms. Barnes, Mr. Houston and Tim as they respectively got home, Lex realized that she couldn’t have asked for a better family.

That being said, both take care to not be abusive to their child, especially Lex. She doesn't want to be like her mom, so she tries to keep her temper in check.

Who stops the kid(s) from doing dangerous stunts after school? - Ethan has good reflexes, and has stopped his kids from falling and hitting their chin on a playground structure more than once. (Fun fact! That happened to me when I was 3. I fell from a steel elephant shaped jungle gym at a German zoo, hit my chin on a steel bar, and bit through my lower lip/knocked 3 teeth out. I still have the scar years later lol)

Who remembers to pack their lunches? - Lex. Though the lunches aren't always the healthiest.

Who is more likely to attend the PTA meetings? - Neither would attend PTA meetings out of the goodness of their hearts. If Lex or Ethan would go to a PTA meeting, it'd most likely be because they wanted to yell at a teacher or principal. They might go seperately or together depending on the severity of the issue.

Who cried the most at graduation? - Ethan wouldn't admit he cried, but he did. So did Lex.

Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law? - Oh bitch, Lex and Ethan both said fuck the law. If it was just like, an overnight jail cell for some stupid misdemeanor, they might try to break their kid out. Otherwise, Lex would probably the one paying the bail because Ethan would try to punch the cop in the face if the cop talked shit about Ethan's kid. That reaction is not exclusive to cops.

Cooking:

Who does the most cooking? - Neither of them are exactly 5 star chefs, but they can hold on their own. Lex is better at cooking breakfast and Ethan is better at cooking dinner- but if he's exhuasted from work, Lex can cook dinner for him.

Who is the most picky in their food choice? - Neither are picky. Both of them grew up young scrappy and hungry just like their country without really the chance to be picky. They had to take what they could get.

Who does the grocery shopping? - Lex. She's good at calculating totals in her head. I wrote that in an unrealeased fic.

How often do they bake desserts? - Rather rarely. Perhaps on special occasions or to bond. Ethan has ruined the kitchen with his kid trying to bake a cake for Lex at least once. Maybe more.

Who cleans the room? - Both had fairly messy rooms as teenagers so they're not super anal about having sparkling clean rooms. That being said, when someone comes over Lex does try to tidy the place up a bit. At least enough to make it seem like they have their shit together. Ish.

Who is really against chores? - Ethan can be a bit of a lazy bones sometimes, but Lex isn't exactly a huge fan of chores either. However, she is used to doing chores since she practically raised herself and Hannah.

Prom

Lex never thought about going to prom. Life was too hectic. Hannah was going to be in sixth grade when it was time for that night. Lex wouldn’t have time to shop for a dress or make plans, Hannah was more important than a stupid night out that would take weeks to save up for.

Sure, there were times when she and Hannah were at the mall and she’d see a pretty dress, full of blacks and purples. Hannah would tug on her arm, and the two of them would end up at the candy store. Lex would buy her candy, even though she wasn’t supposed to eat sugar. And it was nice to not think about the dress again.

Dentist appointments took time when other sophomores were trying to flirt with seniors to go two years early. Even when Ethan joined her little family, Lex didn’t think about the normalcy that they sort of represented. She couldn’t.

There were nights though, when Ethan came along, that Lex let herself fall into the teenage dream. Hannah was with Alice and Deb, safe and sound, and Lex could let herself relax a bit. She let herself take Ethan’s jacket that was too big on her, and talk about their dreams of leaving Hatchet Field behind.

Those nights were special. The two of them would have a few hours to do whatever they wanted. Whether it be as smoking up while sitting on the back of, or making out in the back seat of Ethan’s shitty beat up truck, Lex was able to be a teenager.

Those nights ended too quickly though. Eventually she had to go home. Home to her mom, who took almost all of the money she got from ‘Toy Zone’. Her mom, who was a violent drunk. Who dropped Hannah when she was only one. Who brought home any man who offered. Who didn’t care.

When Mr. Huston left, the nights of escape got smaller and smaller. She failed. She flunked out of school, and she went full time at ‘Toy Zone’. It only got worse when Black Friday came. She had left work when it started getting crazy, but then she had found Ethan on the floor of the movie theater. She got him to the hospital, but the bills took everything from their fund. The California dream was crushed.

Then someone called Child Protective Services on her mom. There were too many signs to ignore. When she was barely seventeen, she was told to pack her bags.

Things changed for the better when Tom Huston and Becky Barns adopted Lex and Hannah. Lex was no longer in charge of doctors appointments, or finding tutors who could help Hannah understand topics in school.

It was weird when they moved in. Even though, for the first time in her life, Hannah had her own room, she still slept in the same bed as Lex. And in return, Lex still made sure she was at every appointment.

Going back to school was another adjustment. Starting senior year with people younger than her was embarrassing, until she saw that she had at least four classes with Ethan. She had a feeling Mr. Huston had something to do with it when he winked at her in shop class.

She started to accept the whole ‘normal teenager’ thing when her and Ethan were finally able to go on their first real date since she had been adopted. Lex had been too busy preparing for the world to crumble down to do anything with him that took more than an hour.

Ethan had asked her on a date, a real date, when it had been seven months. She had accepted, smiling at him and kissing his cheek. “Christ Ethan, you don’t have to be so nervous about it.” She replied. She still kissed him and held his hand as they walked down the hall together.

It was weird, asking her teacher for an extended curfew. Tom just smiled at her, as if he knew something that she didn’t. It set her on edge. She felt like she was going to be tricked. Lex was so used to being cornered, that she felt like she couldn’t breathe as she waited for Ethan to pick her up.

When she opened the door, she felt the air get knocked out of her once again. Her simple dress no longer looked like effort on her part. Ethan had gone all out, he had even combed his hair. He held her hand when he saw her, “Everything alright babe? You look ready to run off.”

Lex just shrugged and kissed him, pulling him outside. She stopped once she saw his truck. “Shit Ethan, where did you get the money to get this fixed?” She asked. She looked at the new headlights and the new wheels. Even some of the old scrapes had been painted over.

“Paul and Emma treated me to it.” He blushed. Lex smiled at the thought. Ethan had been spending a lot of time with the adults. They had taken him in, in an odd way. “They kind of surprised me with it actually…”

Lex smiled and held onto his arm “Well maybe in a year or two you could talk them into a new truck. One that could get us to California.”

He smiled and kissed her before opening her door for her. “Well you’re a gentleman...where did that come from?” Lex asked, smiling as she climbed in.

“Tonight, Babe, is a very special night. Don’t freak out, but I have got a surprise for you.” He kissed her cheek and closed her door.

Though she tried to pry on the drive, he wouldn’t budge. Eventually he turned the radio on. Classic rock filled the air, and Lex let herself relax. She let herself feel safe when she was next to him. Even though she was still a little nervous, she let the tension out of her shoulders as he held her hand on the drive.

When they arrived in Clivesdale, Lex looked at her boyfriend, “Ethan. Where are we going?” Lex tried to ask again. Her voice was tinged with doubt. All of their nicer dates were at the shitty Olive Garden at the edge of Hatchet Field. Most of the places in Clivesdale were expensive and full of high end adults.

“Babe, just relax. I promise, I’d never let anything happen to ‘ya.” He told her, kissing her hand as he kept driving.

Soon they pulled into a steakhouse. One Lex remembered mentioning that she wanted to try before everything that had happened. “Holy fuck…” She mumbled in awe.

Ethan just gave her a smug smile and walked her inside. He ignored her look of shock as he checked them in for their reservation. They were led back to a table in the corner, the hostess even pulled Lex’s chair out for her.

Ethan seemed to be growing nervous throughout the dinner. His cocky exterior started to fade as they got their dessert. He was picking at his lava cake while she smiled at her cookie cheesecake.

“So, um, Lexie. This year is almost over, and prom is coming up. And now I’ve known you for, jesus, five years. You’ve always talked about how that shit isn’t important, but I was thinking, maybe, we could go anyways. Like, fuck the system, and we go anyways. What...what do you think?”

When Lex Foster-Huston is asked, she didn’t cry. She tells people that she smiled and nodded, holding his hand and acting cool as a cucumber. But, in that moment, she couldn’t lie to herself. She had started sobbing.

The night ended an hour past her extended curfew. She came home with her dress poorly put back on and her hair put up. Tom and Becky were on the couch, his arm wrapped around his girlfriend. “Well you were out late.” Tom started.

“Ethan and I got...caught in traffic.” Lex lied. She knew she couldn’t go up to her room until she was dismissed, she just hoped she wasn’t in trouble.

“Sure. We’ll believe that for tonight.” Becky smiled. “So, what did you say?” She asked. Her eyes were bright with her old cheerleader spirit.

“He told you he was asking me to prom?” She asked. Lex had to admit that she was a little more than surprised.

“He asked me for permission.” Tom smiled at her, “He came up to me, all nervous. Thought it might be right to get my blessing or some shit. Nice kid. I approve. Next time fix your makeup when you come back in, though, kid.”

Lex blushed. “Oh. Well I said yes. And, um, I’ll see you tomorrow.” She mumbled, going upstairs. She wasn’t surprised to see Hannah comfortably in her bed, holding Webby close as she slept.

She quickly changed into some of the pajamas that Becky had bought her and climbed into bed with her little sister, wrapping her arm around one of the two people she would do anything for.

“I got asked to prom today, Banana.” She whispered with a smile on her face. “Ethan made a big deal about it too. Bought me a nice dinner at that place in Clivesdale that dad was always talking about. One day we’ll bring you there too.” She smiled at the thought.

She fell asleep with her entire world in her arms, and she fell into a comfortable world of dreams. Full of unrealistic dreams of her future with Ethan. Lex still loved them though.

The next surprise came when Becky walked up to her holding Hannah’s hand. “What’s going on…?” Lex asked, her voice laced with suspicion.

“Prom dress shopping!” Hannah smiled up at her. Lex felt her heart melt a bit when she saw how excited her little sister was.

Becky smiled at her shocked expression, “We thought it would be nice to go as a girls day.” She chirped in.

The three of them drove to the mall that Hannah and Lex used to go to on their own. The three of them walked around after grabbing cookies for themselves and a soda for Hannah. They finished before they had gotten to the store.

They walked in and they were surrounded by formal dresses in a variety of styles and colors. Lex recognized a few of the dresses immediately from when she used to pass by the window.

She looked at a few and chose three to try on. One was yellow and flowey, Hannah had been eyeing it for years. Every time they would walk by she would point at it. Lex had to give it to her to at least try it on.

The other was blue. Becky had said something about it looking like her own prom dress. Lex thought that it was a bit...preppy for her taste, but she decided to try it on anyways. She owed Becky that much.

Lex looked down at her own choice. A purple and black dress that never seemed to leave the store. She had seen it when the store opened, and it was in her arms at that moment. She smiled at the two with her and walked into the dressing room.

She put on the yellow dress and looked at herself in the mirror. She bit her lip and walked outside. Becky and Hannah lit up, telling her how pretty she looked.

“I look like Spongebob.” Lex complained.

“Yeah…” Hannah agreed. That made Lex smile.

“Well why don’t you go back in there and try on another one.” Becky politely suggested. She smiled as Lex walked back in.

She put on the blue dress that Becky had found for her. It fit her well and made her look like a princess. It was a dress that she could see Venessa from her school buying. She would go on with her boyfriend Rick and the two would be voted king and queen. That wasn’t who she was though.

When she walked out, she thought Becky would start crying. She looked so happy, and Hannah was looking at her with wide eyes. “I guess I can tell what you guys think...” Lex smiled nervously.

“Well it’s a beautiful dress on you sweetheart.” Becky smiled, “But, we want to know what you think of it.”

Hannah nodded, smiling up at her older sister.

“I…” She didn’t know what to say. She couldn’t say that she didn’t like the dress, and if they liked this dress as much as they claimed, they would hate the other one.

“Try on the other dress.” Hannah blurted. She smiled at her older sister. “Webby says that this dress isn’t right. There’s...something wrong with it, but she won’t say what.”

Lex couldn’t be more grateful for a made up spider. “Well if Webby says that it’s not right, then it’s not right.” She smiled. She walked back into the dressing room and put on her choice.

When she looked into the mirror, she couldn’t stop herself from tearing up. It fit her perfectly. It was low cut and tight and then a touch of ballgown. It was dark purple and black.

She walked outside and both Hannah and Becky lit up. “Oh Lex… it’s so beautiful.” Becky smiled at her. She brushed Lex’s hair back and held her hand “You’re so beautiful.”

“It’s perfect.” Hannah smiled, hugging her sister. Lex held her younger sister tightly. She held onto Hannah’s hand.

“I think this is it. I want this one.” Lex smiled.

When they went to the register, the woman who owned the store stared at Lex. The more the older woman stared, the more uncomfortable Lex got.

“Yes?” She asked, biting her lip and tensing up.

“I’ve seen you before. Looking at this dress from the window. I was wondering when you were finally going to buy it. It’s why I haven’t thrown it out or put it on sale yet.”

“Who are you?” Lex asked.

“People call me Molag. Don’t know why, don’t care. Anywho,” She put the dress into a package “Take it for half off. It’s been here longer than your sister has been alive.” She smiled.

On the way home, Lex couldn’t believe how lucky she was. She smiled at Hannah, who was looking out the window. Becky was smiling at them from the front.

“Thank you, for the dress.” Lex told Becky.

“It’s the least I could do. You’re always helping around. I’m glad to finally help you.” She smiled back at the sisters.

Lex smiled back.

Prom came sooner than Lex expected. It felt like it was only a week, and Lex was in her room with Becky and Hannah getting ready. Hannah was happily painting her nails black and Becky was curling her hair.

“Tonight is the night.” Becky smiled as she finished with Lex’s hair.

“Yeah...it is. I’ve been waiting for it for a long time.” Lex admitted.

When she was ready, Lex almost couldn’t tear her eyes away from the mirror. She had always thought prom night would just be her and Ethan sitting where they could see Hannah. And she was okay with that. She loved her little sister more than anything in the world,

She smiled when she heard the doorbell ring, and she slipped on her silver heels. She walked down the hall and felt as everyone looked at her. Tom looked ready to cry, Becky had the biggest grin she had ever seen, Tim was giggling, and Hannah was cheering. And then Lex saw Ethan.

He was looking at her as if she was his entire universe. She walked over and looked at his hands. He had a small silver box. “What’s that?” She asked.

“You look beautiful.” He told her, not answering her question. “You always look beautiful. Every day I’ve known you, you’ve looked more beautiful than anyone I’ve ever seen. And right now, you look just as beautiful as that first time I saw you. But- fuck how do I say this? It’s different.”

“That was so fucking sappy…” She mumbled, but Lex noticed her strained voice. She kissed his cheek.

“I got you this...I think it’s called a corsage. Emma said that it’s what you give girls on prom, but I didn’t want to get you one of the pink ones… “ He rambled, pushing the box into her hands. “So I got you the best one I could find.”

Lex opened the box to find black and silver flowers “Jesus Christ Ethan...it’s beautiful.” She mumbled, hugging him.

He helped her pin the flowers to her dress. Tom and Becky made them pose for photos, and then the two of them were allowed to leave.

They started driving to the school and Lex smiled at Ethan. “I think this is the best night of my life.” She told him. He smiled and nodded.

They arrived at the venue and gave the volunteer their tickets. Inside, music was playing and tables were set up.

Ethan looked nervous as he spoke up above the slow music playing. “Do you want to dance?” He asked.

Lex smiled and nodded. And as she took his hand, she was happy to finally feel normal. As she rested her head on his chest as he wrapped his arms around him, she wasn’t upset that they weren’t in California. She was happy.

Headcanon that Ted is fun with kids* but is extremely careful and awkward around them because he didn't have a good childhood and he's scared that he'll hurt them in some way.

- And he's grinning like a madman, because the kid is adorable.

- And Emma accidentally refers to him as 'Uncle Ted' while she's out of it

- It sticks.

- Ted decides he's gonna be there for these kids

- Like, at that moment he becomes the fun uncle

- Paul and Emma pretend to hate it, but he makes their kids so happy

- He'll let them do his makeup (which the girls think is hilarious with his moustache)

- He'll get right on the floor to play games with them.

- But he won't wrestle or anything.

- He's genuinely always so gentle with them

- The kids cannot say the same

- They're pretty rough with him, but he's okay with that as long as it's him getting hurt.

- Other kids that Ted gets close with: Alice and Deb's kids (I think they'd adopt one or two when they got older), The Davidson's kids (even though they're older, he finally gets to meet them and they get along), Tim (who he met at a Paulkins Christmas event), Hannah Foster (who might honestly be *his* kid- her or Lex), and any kids he might eventually become an uncle to.

- I don't think he'd plan on having his own kids

- Because he's scared to be a father

- He didn't have a good father, and he's scared he'll be just as bad.

- But if he did have kids, he'd actually be a great dad for that reason.

tma and tgwdlm/black friday crossover; specifically, jon reading/taking somebody's statement on, well you know, that whole end of the world business. which apocalypse do you think he'd get a statement about, and from who? and which season's jon do you think would be funniest/most interesting

First off, Anon, I love you? I love this prompt so much as you can probably tell by the length of it

Okay SO, 

Most interesting? Jon hears Black Friday first. It’s a bunch of people murdering each other and showing strange personality changes focussed around hunting themselves down a doll/hurting each other. Jon gets this statement from Lex: She got out, lives with Hannah in Tom, Tim, and Becky’s place because they needed to get as far away from Hatchetfield as possible. She mentions her having had addiction problems, and Jon chalks it up to that. 

Is PEIP a better organised and funded solution to the Section 31′d officers? I like it for the crossover purposes. Maybe they all did a Basira, left the force, and pooled resources. 

PEIP pulled some strings with their British equivalent to get them moved over there. Statement taken maybe.... season one is funniest? I like it as a season 2 though, over in the US and is just given this statement. 

In season three, when he’s still figuring it out, he scares the SHIT out of “Kelly Graham” by calling her Emma offhand. She can’t do shit all about it, she’s been moved in with “Peter” and “Grace” and their son and adopted daughters since the infection took Hatchetfield out completely. 

In season Four, when he’s actively hunting statements at times, he finds “Kelly Graham”, who threatens to deck him with a piping hot pot of coffee. He asks for her statement, knows her name is Emma Perkins, and it records. Elias wants to know what the FUCK is UP with Hatchetfield. 

Now he knows what the fears are. 

The Apotheosis sounds like the Corruption: it’s all about love, using connections against each other, and the thing with Pal (An avatar of the Corruption now probably?) trying to take Emma with him, of Hidgens’s love for the Boys getting him killed, Charlotte, Sam, and Ted’s whole Thing, that’s textbook corruption. 

But is this the Extinction?????? because it has elements of the Stranger, I do Not Know You, “it hurt sasha....”, all the showman ship and the weird insistence that someone is having a good times. 

Jon cross-references Lex’s statement, heart beating far too quickly, and it’s the same thing. Hunting. Hurting. Needing the target. Hurting and music like the Slaughter. But there’s BIG TIME SPIRAL-ISH ENERGY. in not trusting your own senses, and in the space ‘between’ dimensions, like the corridors??? and this “Webby” character the younger sister hears. Is that the Web? It could be, but it doesn’t make any sense.

the family they always wanted - chapter one

  becky houston woke up like she normally did, with her seven year old daughter hannah climbing into her bed and snuggling between becky and her husband, tom. as soon as she felt the little girl come between the two of them, a smile crept it’s way onto her face. ever since she and tom had adopted the girls, her life had changed tremendously.

 she loved being a mom to all three of her kids, including her twelve year old step-son, tim, but it could get overwhelming at times. being a mom meant that she had zero days off, but she loved it. while she and lex hadn’t gotten on great at first, their relationship had gotten a lot better in the two years and six months since they had adopted the girls. tim and becky got along very well, as becky reminded tim a lot of his mom, but she knew that she wasn’t going to replace his mom, and tim appreciated that. but hannah and becky had just clicked right away. hannah reminded becky of her young self in so many ways. the little girl was very shy and reserved, but also very creative and intelligent. she had always wanted children of her own, but she was perfectly happy with her three kids. even though she had only met them when they were four and a half, ten and fifteen, she still loved them.

 so, becky really had no desire to have biological children. she loved her kids and her husband and her family already felt complete. so you can only imagine how anxious she was when she realized that she might be pregnant. she already had three kids, she really did not need another one. becky had come to the conclusion that she would take a test once she had gotten the kids to school and tom had gone to work, but she was dreading it. she wouldn’t necessarily be sad if she was pregnant, but she also wouldn’t be thrilled. she didn’t want to put her kids in a situation where they would feel like she loved her biological child more than she loved her other kids. that would never be true. becky loved her family more than anything else in the world, and she would never love one of her kids more than another. her thoughts were interrupted by little hannah wrapping her arms around her waist.

 “mama, don’t wanna go to school.” hannah says, snuggling into becky’s side. becky still felt immense happiness whenever one of her kids called her mom. she never forced it on them, but she loved that they were comfortable enough with her to call her that.

 “why is that, banana?” becky asked her daughter, as her husband started to stir beside the two of them, “i think today is gonna be a great day at school.” becky says, turning her head to look at the clock. six o’clock. she had about five minutes until she had to get up and start the long process of getting lex and tim out of bed.

 “no. webby says it’s gonna be a bad day.” hannah says, making becky frown. they were still waiting on a schizophrenia diagnosis for hannah, but becky always tried her best to support her daughter and comfort her when she was sad. she always tried to listen to her and understand her problems, because she knew that hannah didn’t get that with her biological mother.

  “well, i think you should tell webby that you are going to have a great day! you love school, hannah! you get to see your friends.. and then after school, daddy said he was gonna take you and your sister and brother to get ice cream! doesn’t that sound like fun?” becky says, looking down at her daughter, who was now looking up at her. hannah’s eyes perk up at the mention of her father and ice cream.

 “ice cream? can i get strawberry?” hannah says, making becky smile.

 “you can get whatever you want, banana.” becky says, ruffling the little girl’s messy brown hair and starting to get out of bed. as she got out of bed, tom sat up and smiled at becky and hannah.

 “hey, it’s two of my favorite girls!” he says, making hannah laugh and roll over on the bed so she was next to him, “hi, banana, did you sleep good last night?” he asks his daughter, who nods and smiles at him, “i’m so glad.” he says, smiling at the little girl next to him. she was probably the most adorable little girl he had ever seen in his entire life. he never thought he would have more kids after jane died, but he had always wanted a daughter. he loved his son so much, but his daughters completed their family.

 becky watches the two of them interact, a small smile on her face. she loved the two of them so, so much. so much, in fact, that she almost wanted to stand there and watch them all day. sadly, she couldn’t, as ethan would be there to pick lex up for school in about an hour and she had to go wake her eldest up. she walked out of the room and into their bathroom across the hall so she could brush her teeth. when suddenly, she felt uneasiness in her stomach. something didn’t feel right. this uneasiness quickly turned to a complete churn in her stomach. she bent down next to the toilet and spilled the contents of her stomach into it.

 “mom?” lex says, standing in the doorway of the bathroom, “are you okay? should i go get dad?” she asks, pointing to the bedroom across the hallway. becky quickly shook her head.

 “no, no, lex, it’s fine. i’m fine. i’ve just been a little bit nauseous lately. i haven’t felt great for a few days now. i probably just have a little stomach bug or something.” she half-lies to her eldest, standing up and flushing the toilet so she could brush her teeth. lex raised an eyebrow.

 “if you say so. don’t make yourself more sick. you don’t have to work today, do you?” lex asked, to which becky shakes her head, “rest. drink some water. i love you, ethan and i are gonna go get breakfast, so i’m leaving now, but i’ll see you later.”

 “i love you too, lex. have a great day at school, sweetie.” becky says, forcing a smile at her daughter.
