#i'm boring they're all het ships lol...FOR NOW

Isn't a writer question but was curious; How does wenclair different from other ships you've enjoyed?
Is it solely due to having been a lifelong Wednesday Addams fan, or is it specifically the Netflix's Addams world that you find intriguing?
I ask mainly because I recall you once saying that your wenclair comics--specifically the Next Gen Au I believe--are written and made with a lot of intention in regards to dialog and the discussions had between characters.
Is this due to a greater insight into the characters or simply a mark of growth in writing comprehension?
I like to think I put as much thought in all ships I've been hyperfixated on tbh. Wenclair isn't even the one I've been obsessed with the longest. So far it's actually Trimberly, for which and I was hyperfixated with for like 3 years.
But yeah ok I get ur point lol The intensity this time feels different, I suppose.
I think it's a mix of both being a long time Wednesday Addams fan and how cute of a ship Wenclair is both in concept and the canon execution of their dynamics.
As some of you are aware, I've been a fan of The Addams for a while now. All incarnations of them are great in their own way, but one of the many reasons why the animated 2019 movie is my favorite is because it didn't give Wednesday a bland ass male love interest. I don't think the B/W series did it(because Wed was like six in that) but the 90's movies, musical, and netflix series for some reason found it necessary to give Wednesday male love interests so painfully boring and i hate it. This isn't even about making Wednesday attracted to boys. I personally headcanon her bi, as the ol' stereotype that all grumpy/angsty female characters must be lesbian isn't my cup of tea, and also because I like to think all Addamses just don't give a shit about gender when it comes to romance. I woulda been fine with her getting a boyfriend so long as they're not boring af and goddddd canon incarnations still haven't delivered. Joel was sweet but he was too much of a wimp, not even Gomez is that pathetic. Lucas' thing with Wednesday was just portrayed in such an icky way in the musical that I couldn't finish watching by the time their sexually charged duet came on, and don't even get me started on the boys Netflix gave her. I expected better of Gough and Millar...(unless the blandness was on purpose like it was with Lana Lang--)
Anyways, because of all said canon love interests, I've been desperate for Wednesday to have a love interest that is both not painfully het or boring for once. Crossover shipping with Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice the Musical was fun but was ultimately a very niche fandom. I could only draw and write for an audience of twenty or so people for so long. Parker from the animated movie would've been great, but the cop out with her mom dating Fester just made it too weird for me to be fully on board with the ship.
So when Enid Sinclair was introduced as a character I was absolutely ecstatic. On paper alone she already seemed great. She has a very distinct appearance (even if her "design" was inspired by Harlequin and it shows) that goes so well when she stands next to Wednesday, whether it's in the actual show, fan arts, or even in official merch. Her being Wednesday's complete opposite in so many ways makes her being paired with Wednesday so dang interesting too.
And I don't just mean aesthetic or personality wise. I'm talking about how one of Wednesday's struggle stems from having too much smothering love from her family as someone who gets overwhelmed too easily, and Enid's loneliness and insecurity coming from her own family's lack of love and attention where it matters most. Or how Wednesday's just girl who, deep inside worries about being an actual cruel monster like the very bigots she hates, while Enid is a supposed beast who resents herself for only being a scared little girl. Even the fact that Wednesday is an older sister to a soft-hearted younger brother while Enid is the youngest daughter to a bunch of rough-housing older brothers feels very on purpose.
Everything about Enid feels deliberate. Like she IS supposed to be paired with Wednesday, platonically or romantically. She's the best person to stand beside Wednesday as a character because they have enough differences and similarities to have interesting conflicts but also significant character growths sparked by each other. She's not bland or boring like the canon love interests because even without her attachment to Wednesday, Enid is still such a compelling character. The mere fact that she's as popular as she is despite an eight-episode series being her debut in a franchise that's been iconic to generations is already pretty amazing, and only a character as impressive deserves to smooch somebody as iconic as Wednesday Addams.
And their on screen chemistry is just *chef's kiss*
#asks#wenclair#wednesday netflix#the way i wax poetic about this show you think it's a masterpiece#lmfaooo#god istg if wenclair were on purpose it'd be the best love story ever#but alas

On ep6 of Alchemy of Souls and one thing is making me laugh is the way other charas are like:" ah yes. Jang Uk and his maid who follows him everywhere, they're inseparable. if u know what I mean ;]"
I swear everybody (except Seo Yul somewhat bc he is suspicious abt Naksu and hs noticed Jang Uk improvement and shaneaningans is related to her) (also danggu who thinks somehow Yul and Mudeok have been romancing), everybody except those two above thinks Mudeok is Uk lover.
I men they're trying to marry off Jang Uk to Jin Choyeon(?) (did I wrote that right?) and everybody is like. Oh, what is going to be of poor Mudeok, surely she would/wouldn't follow him into the marriage. The implication being that she's either so close that is unimaginable she's gonna be left behind or so close she surely wouldn't be in the sme house as Uk official spouse.
I'm hollering bc I think Naksu knows this and is playing along when it suits her, see; her combo with the crown prince. Also, Jang Uk wishes he could be that secure in being Naksu's, his jealousy is very funny which is a new one for me. Usually I detest when people use jealousy in the rom plot but as he does nothing but nag at Naksu "please let it be clear I'm your one and only student and like, don't let other guys close enough to your eyes, for security of course" is almost sad.
When has someone last had such high expectations of him?? And said the ugly things to his face but also didn't think he was lesser bc he was a bastard or incorregible?? I mean valid criticism (although Naksu does go hard on him lol) to make him improve, not just demoralize him. Of course he's afraid she'll go with Seo Yul who seems to have some kind of history with her and is powerful and respected, etc. So like. It makes sense why Jang Uk is clingy and gets jealous easy.
I get more annoyed by the way he can be so so avoidant of what he doesn't like, which leads him to be an asshole to Naksu after all the trouble he went to make her his master. (but also flawed charas, yay! and then naksu goes, oh this how you're gonna be?? what if it's live or death then, you idiot? gonna go do what you were avoiding and want to secretly do now, eh? she knows how to push his buttons so well XD)
Also love how when he flirts or is saying nonsense and Naksu will just. Not take it seriously and tease him about how nonserious it is lol XD She has no time for all those convoluted side romances you silly guy. Their most rom moments are also the more serious, less outwardly romantic, just, the way their goals align and they take risk for each other, or they have serious conversations for once.
I almost though for a bit in ep1 and 2 that Seo Yul would be the ML, and Jang Uk the one with the more developed non rom relationship everyone shipped more with Naksu, lol. I was almost fine with it??? Bc I care about character building a lot, and him and Naksu were so interesting from the start for me that I went, ah the old boring romance VS complicated platonic/rom not canon ship which the writers are too cowards to canonized.
Then I noticed our protag was a woman this time!!! (the above scenario is usually a boring het vs fanon slash ship lol) Watched ep3!!! And noticed too, that Jang Uk is the one with the heavy plot and narrative sharing with Naksu (to the point she's feeling a bit shadowed by his King Star deal thing. but generally I like how they're juggling the two protags style!!) who gets into problems for her and bc of her and viceversa, while Seo Yul is a tsuntsun who can't deal lol
Anyways I'm enjoying a lot Alchemy of Souls, although the plot and the worldbuilding are not anything extraordinary and fall a bit into "meh" for me sometimes, bc I love the charas and dynamics of our two protags!!
Can't wait for ep7 tonight.

#2 from the questions designed to make u hate me list 👀
EXCELLENT QUESTION.
2.) Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?
100,000% Drarry. I know I've said this before, but like...I'm overly in love with Snarry, so shipping them with other people makes me sad. 🤣 But I can at least feel a spark or a vibe from other ships, such as say Tomarry or Sirry (for Harry), or Snaco or Sneville (for Severus.) There's interest there, and sexiness, and even if it's not romance or longterm, I can envision there being something.
Drarry???? I just don't get it. 😭 0 spark. 0 spice. For me personally. Clearly there are plenty of people who do get those things! Or who don't need those things in a ship, idk. Drarry is huge and ngl I wish I could see it! Especially because Drarry has so many super talented people. 🥺 I admire all the art, and the fics I've read have been so stellar!!!! A+ writing. A+ art. Gorgeous, stunning, amazing. I envy Drarry folks, they have so many goods to enjoy!
Anyway. I can't really ship it romantically. And I can barely see a case for it sexually. 🧐 But platonic???? I LOVE IT. Just like begrudging buddies postwar. Like enemies to lovers only it's rivals to friends. I super dig it. Especially when it's all reluctant. (Like how I like my ships tbh.) Just Harry like helping Draco out postwar cuz he's a good boy, but he's like "I'll help you but I'm not gonna like it." And Draco being all bratty and proud about it all. Or or! Having to work together, be it rebuilding Hogwarts or being coworkers!!!! OR OR OR having to get along because their friend group is all hooking up. (Who doesn't love a good Gryffindor/Slytherin ship????)
A very sibling-like dynamic I think where they're at each other's throats and don't realize how far they've come until they're suddenly defending the other. "How dare you call Potter Scarhead! Only I'm allowed to mock his disfigurement!" 😂
Anyway. Drarry as a BrOTP???? I'm hella into it.
But ALSOOOOO. Okay idk how popular Snamione actually is, idk much about het ships. 😂 But it's not tiny or anything! (Please forgive my snamione ignorance 😅) But...Snamione as a BrOTP???????? I LOVE IT. PLEASE I NEED MORE.
Especially when they become buddies after Harry and Severus hook up!!!!!!!! Snarry with a side of Snamione BrOTP???? Yes yes yes. Two super smart folks being super smart together. Sharing book recommendations, having intellectual discussions, academic and political debates, etc. Maybe sharing projects???? Slowly over time of course cuz Severus is d i f f i c u l t. But they get there!!!! And suddenly Hermione is over for dinner and Harry feels like a third wheel cuz his husband and his bestie are talking nerd shit.
Okay okay okay but imagine: Married Snarry. Dron is a thing. Hermione is a single independent pringle. All having dinner cuz Golden Trio = family. Severus and Hermione get to chatting. Draco isn't actually interested but he's a jerk and smugly jumps in because Harry and Ron are clueless. Harry and Ron just sitting there like ???? Then excuse themselves to go fly around outside. But now Draco can't find his way out of a boring conversation he doesn't even want to be in and "Merlin help you, Ronald, if you leave me here --!" (At this point why am I answering an ask I might as well be writing a fic LOL.)
Anyway, the point is: Drarry and Snamione are excellent BrOTPs that I will platonically ship forever.

People who say things like "you only ship it because its two guys", or how ive seen it more ignorantly, idiotically put "you only ship it (specifically klance) because it has 2 boring twinks", need to definitely read this. (Part 1 and 3 too, because its interesting and insightful overall)
IMO, when not as much effort is put into developing a het canon relationship other than the basic "he's a guy, she's a girl, the rest is pretty much obvious"(instead, all of the effort is put into the development of the male friendship-oftentimes having double the chemistry -romantic and platonic- as well as double the meaningful moments and character development-as individuals and as a pair), it definitely shows.
(There ARE ways to develop male friendships in media without underlying romantic and sexual tension, so the "they're just friends, you're reading into it too deeply" is an excuse that doesn't even hold any weight)
Its also the exact reason why (i feel like) soo many non-canon mlm pairings give off the "if this were het, then this would have been canon" feeling, because that mlm non-canon relationship was given the development that the canon het ship needed to feel authentic, planned, and whole.
(Comments like the first one I wrote also shows some individuals inability to recognize romance outside of a standard mold- ex: a scene/trope only being viewed as romantic when it occurs between a male and female, but platonic as soon as the characters are of the same sex- but that's a topic for another day, lol)
And please, no one get triggered by this and subsequently try to start an argument. I have no energy for games or foolishness
P.s. I focused more on mlm because of the ships I had in mind, but this def. applies to wlw as well. It may be even worse in that sense, given that wlw ships can be interpreted to some as "best friends" given how normal it is for females to be seen being soft with one another and things of the like, so its hard for many to detect the romance aspect of it. Am I even making sense right now?? Ignore me, I'm rambling😂😂😂
Why Do Certain Ships Become So Popular? (And Why Should Writers Rethink When They Do?) - Part 2
<- Start back at part 1 or you’re going to be very confused!
This time my victim of choice example is Klance (and Allurance and Lotura too).
In a previous post, I established the premise that shippers focus their efforts and attention on ships between characters who exhibit the most compelling dynamism, the greatest amount of emotional energy–good feelings or bad–that directly relates to one or more of the characters’ growth arcs… or the two characters whose emotional interactions most significantly affect a story’s main plot.
This idea (that shippers are looking for strong, dynamic emotional interactions that are directly tied to plot) feeds directly into my second premise: part of the popularity of slash ships comes from the fact that, very often, the strongest and most plot-relevant emotional events don’t occur between male characters and female characters, but between male protagonists and other male characters–due to a combination of 1) a much smaller number of female characters, 2) a majority of writers for anime/manga and American shows being male; 3) under-developed or poorly written female characters, and 4) the tendency to situate males in the hero, sidekick, and villain positions, increasing the chance that their actions will have greater importance in the story’s main plot.
In short, writers can unintentionally cause fans to prefer non-canon slash ships by writing more dynamic, better developed, and more plot-relevant interactions between their male leads than between the main character and his designated female love interest.
Now hang on. Before you get all up in arms, yes, I’m perfectly aware there are plenty of other reasons slash ships are popular, including:
A huge desire among LGBT+ fans for positive representation
The fact that m/m interactions appeal to straight women/others the same way w/w interactions are sexy to straight men/others
The tendency of shows, particularly from Japan, to deliberately queer-bait
The fact that many women vicariously ship male characters together because it allows them to imagine a relationship of “genuine equals,” particularly in areas where women feel they are still not treated equally to men
The tendency for “pair the spares” to result in m/m ships simply due to a lower number of available female characters
And so on
Keep reading
