super funny to me how fuinjuutsu specialists are functionally the wizards even among the ninja wizard populace of naruto. give them some paper and prep time and they start playing with reality like it's made of dough. anyways, some things iruka does with his fuinjuutsu that are cool and fun and thematically resonant:

he gains the most renown for his seals, of course, but has carved out a niche for himself in learning how to enchant weapons and clothing. for iruka, who does everything he can for others, this was a natural progression. (fuinjuutsu, like anything else in this world made possible with chakra and grit, is about intention, and will, and some healthy disregard for the laws of reality. iruka's only desire had ever been to protect as many people as he could, to let them be as safe as they could be, to come home. of course he would learn to make their clothes tough enough to deflect blades. of course he would gift weapons that don't break, that could cleave mountains in two if the wielder tried hard enough. violence is the way of this world, and iruka has learned about survival since he was a child; he will give others what they need to survive, until the world no longer needs such things. it will be considered a kindness until it isn't.) his fuinjuutsu mastery becomes so refined and covetous that the daimyos have received enchanted items by him, as well as the other kages, but iruka gives away most of his craft to the general populace, and most often for free, because they are the ones who need it most, and the most deserving besides.

if cursed seals exist, then surely the opposite can as well? iruka is willing to experiment and kakashi is more than willing to be the test subject. it's desire and willpower made manifest into ink, put onto skin, but instead of kakashi carrying around the remnants of ambition and greed, he has iruka's love for him, writ large and deep, so deep he can feel it to his marrow. there is no pain, just warmth and a soft pressure, like a kiss, like a hand on his shoulder. that blessed seal, like many other things kakashi carries on his body, will come to save his life many times. and if nothing else, it serves as a beautiful tattoo, inked on his left arm, covering his anbu mark. call it a shedding of the skin, at last, for a man who's worn too many it became so heavy. let it be a start to him writing a better ending for himself, with iruka's hand to help steady him, his generous heart reminding kakashi that he can want better for himself. iruka always could see the potential in everyone.

It always feels kinda strange to me positing this level of analysis for a series where like. So little of it exists right now, and it has had only such a small opportunity to actually introduce and develop its themes as a work. But I still love to think in part that The Walten Files' narrative can represent the way capitalism enables human abuses and stifles and silences stories of individual suffering.

It's Robot Murder webseries but I think it has a lot of threads that connect to themes of workplace coercion and abuse, to the bystander effect, to the way that individuals looking to cause harm will seek out positions of power and will be granted them out of corporate convenience. The way that victims' stories will be silenced and scrubbed from discourse, perpetuated only through exploitative rumor. And I don't even think these corollaries are necessarily unintentional?

Though we haven't seen this happen in earnest in the series yet, I think a very basic and obvious example comes from the implication that Jack and Felix reached some kind of 'truce' after Edd & Molly's deaths, arranged specifically for the sake of Bon's Burgers' success as a business. We know for a fact, now, that the Founder's Photo was taken after the crash. They are mutually roleplaying an amicable relationship, and in doing so lessening the consequences of meaningful human injustices, (Felix, let's say, deserves to go to prison, or to have his business fail, or to at least be denied the profit and reward from the success of his business, or some other consequence for his actions that isn't just the dissolution of his friendship with Jack,) for the sake of securing a profitable business venture. And I alluded to the aspect of coercion within this. We can imagine from Jack's perspective, say, that he's poured a lot of resources into Bon's Burgers as a financial project, and legitimately cannot afford to see it fail. It would ruin the lives of him and what is left of its family to leave it a crashing burning wreckage, so he sets aside, to some degree, his desire to seek justice, and passes a threshold where he becomes a wilful (note: not "willing") participant in the silencing of injustice.

I think this is going to become, like, an incredibly obvious recurring theme as the series continues. Which it already kind of is. Individuals being forced to adopt some level of complicity in their own suffering. For the sake of capital. We've seen this to some extent with Hillary's Findjackwalten page, where she airs out some of her guilt with having been associated with BSI for such a long time, despite her level of awareness of the company's shady business practice and rumored history of actual crime. One of her friends went literally missing, and she continued working for the company for years.

Another point is that I anticipate part of the reason Charles and Susan sort of kept silence about their discomfort with Felix and his behavior post-crash is so that they could keep their jobs. Sure, that whole inner group of BSI members were a tight-knit "Family", but I think after a certain point the true dynamic became more evident, that Felix was their boss, and that he was only going to put up with so much scrutiny. Which obviously emulates a dynamic that exists in the real world, of an overly friendly corporate environment getting people in a lot of trouble when they realize too late that their boss is still their boss, and that their job will take advantage of the friendliness or charity they decide to show to their "friends" at any and every opportunity.

Just fundamentally, Bon's Burgers, as a business, and as a narrative mechanism, and as a literal front for serial murder, chews through people for the sake of success and profitability, and to guarantee access to more victims. In a way that is sometimes maybe a little bit more literal or fantastical than what tends to happen in the real world. But not that much more literal, because real-world capitalism also kills people all the time.

Sure, I don't mind being called a furry. My art certainly qualifies as furry art and my characters are furry characters. But I've never been that connected or active in the furry fandom in general. There's a lot of core experiences that I'm missing: I don't have a fursona, I don't own a fursuit and I've never been to a furry con. My online circles are very furry-centric but I don't think any of my irl friends consider themselves furries, despite our shared tastes and interests.

speaking of yapping, i hope you don't mind cuz i wanna do that right now :3c I LOVE YOUR ART!!! you have mastery over using shapes, the general "blockiness" of your style reminds me of those early 2000s cartoon network shows, which is nice to see because these artstyles aren't that popular nowadays. so that, + the smoothness and thickness of your line art makes your character artwork look really defined and sharp.

and your colour choices... i have no idea how you do it, but they're just sublime. like in your DRDT designs, for example, the cream + gentle red of okazaki's suit, the greenish black of hiroaki's, the vibrant orange of isono's hair contrasted with the bluish green, the beautiful purples, pink and white of tamba's outfit... bruh. this stuff almost brings me to tears. it's breathtaking how beautiful these colours are, and how well they go with each other. they make my brain go brrrr.... not to mention the designs themselves are fire too RAAHHH!!! lies down... i just think it's neat.

also i need, neeed to talk about your chap 3 au. it's so meaningful to me. i've seen people kill off wada as a victim in their AUs A LOT, it's like a staple at this point. usually, it's him taking someone else's place or just to have him die in general ig, and i don't find that very compelling. like, oh wow, victim wada?? definitely haven't seen that before lol. but in your au, he dies, but it was because he decided to strike back against his abuser, and i find that so beautiful.

disclaimer, ik okazaki is also a teenager and i'm not celebrating her death etc. but the fact still stands that wada is a victim, hers and in general, and you had him take back some of his power for the first time in his life. not only that, he also inadvertently saved a person he loved from being executed (whether it was a good thing for her is another matter). the killing game itself makes the participants inherently powerless, but he acted with as much agency as you can while being inside it.

i LOVE this wada. this is such a wonderful take on his character, a version of him that's a bit to the left, that values himself and his own dignity a bit more than in canon. and maybe one that holds onto bitterness/anger more, as well. but it STILL MAKES SENSE!! it doesn't feel OOC! this au just took the him that stabbed okazaki as self defense and turned that into more active and retaliatory force.

also, strangling a mf to death with HDMI cables is just iconic. pure king shit. anyway... i'm very glad that canon wada's survived this long, and i love him for who he is, but if he had to die, it wouldn't be so bad if it had gone something like this. thank you for creating such an awesome AU.

like. you mentioned the whips cracking. you didn’t mention the way it sounds like pure bloodlust. i don’t know what it is about it but it sounds like sheer hatred and evil. it doesn’t even sound like a pokémon boss theme. it sounds like the song itself is trying to kill me. and like it could. this is a ghetsis theme with a PUNCH to it. i am viscerally uncomfortable just listening. and i LOVE it. what on earth did they put in it. that is the definitive version of his theme now

IT'S SUCH A GOOD THEME. They somehow manage to make it sound more threatening than the original which is a feat. And it fits so well with the context being that this Ghetsis won in the world he came from. The song itself just sounds cruel, it's perfectly fitting for the version of him who succeeded in conquering Unova.

Just everything about it fills you with this sense of dread that you got from the original but it feels so much more intense here. Every time I listen to it, it makes my skin crawl, it's so great.

Hi I also do not have time for web dev* but since reading your post about Patreon-Memberful being terrible and Ghost looking appealing I can't stop thinking about the migration sounding kind of fun. What's your current hosting situation and if you went to ghost would you keep it or switch to their managed hosting Ghost Pro offering or is that all as yet undecided?

*My job is web dev and this ask is at least 90% procrastinating at Job web dev with Daydream web dev, but since it's sticking I figured I might as well try to make the daydream web dev mildly useful

i'd love to do ghost's managed hosting BUT i need custom themes since none of the defaults are geared toward multi serials. and i don't trust them to be cool about smut long-term.

my current cheapo shared hosting for wordpress can't handle ghost so i'd probably do a digitalocean droplet since. that seems like something i can manage lmao. my original plan was to Make A Theme but it turns out i don't want to. so instead i'll probably buy a docs theme (i like the table of contents functionality) and hope for the best.

i don't think i've been that open about actually writing every now and then aside from my usual yapping in the tags, but. yesterday i was overcome with the need to write again and so, this happened. i'm not one to ever feel proud of my ideas or what i put to paper, but one thing i promised myself is that this year i'm gonna post things and not feel embarrassed about them. so. this is my first attempt at that!

God, Buck had missed him so much. And now Tommy was close enough that Buck made the conscious decision to ignore the heaviness in his limbs. He wanted to touch him, to hold him close and feel his skin under his fingertips again. His fingertips that were now settling on Tommy's chest, light to start but soon enough giving way for him to splay his entire palm over Tommy's heart, determined to feel it claiming its rightful place underneath. It was beating exactly the way a functioning human heart should beat, nothing out of the ordinary, yet feeling it below thread-bare plum or burgundy cotton made Buck think of tractor beams and being beckoned to where you belong. And maybe he could decide he belonged right here, in this moment. Almost in a kitchen of an open floor plan apartment, standing between the stairs and his dining table, his hair brushed away by an impossibly large hand that then fell to cradle his cheek, part of a man a most unexpected presence in his life. Maybe this was the truth of coming home. Maybe this was what belonging felt like. He couldn't remember how they got here, but maybe he really had just overexerted himself at work and his brain hadn't come back online yet. Maybe it didn't matter, because Tommy was here. Maybe them breaking up and Buck finally giving up baking after a hundred something breads and different goods had been the bad dream the entire time. Maybe this was the universe finally, finally granting him solace. Ease.

Okay so I did this WIP a while back that I discontinued but I'm still going insane about the meaning of it and also the symbolism of masks in this game and also akeshu parrallels so I need to Yap abt them

The symbolism of masks in this game drives my so batshit insane actually. Like. So often we see in media that people are finally free when they take their mask off (both metaphorically and literally) but in this game we see people's true forms when they put one ON.

Like the palaces are where we see people's true faces and desires. It's the place where no one can hide who they are. And yet it's one one place where you wear a physical mask and disguise and have to conceal who you are.

I could (and will at some point) write an entire essay about that but rn it's akeshu hours

Because Joker is arguably the best example of that, he becomes alive in the palaces, where his face his hidden. It's his freedom

Versus Akechi

The first time we see Akechi show his true form to Joker (and the player) is in what is percieved at the time as the real world. The entire time we work together in the palace, the place that shows who you are despite the mask you wear he hides who he is. It's only in the gritty real world that he reveals himself.

Joker in the real world is perceived (at least by people outside of his circle) as closed off and someone to be cautious around, he has a criminal record so he could be dangerous. The exact opposite of how he is in palaces, the centre of the team and a flame people are drawn towards

VERSUS AKECHI

In the real world he is a celebrity, he is loved, people are drawn to him. But in palaces he's cold and heartless, his words are cutting and he cares for no one, not hesitating to kill to achieve his goal

Opposites in every sense
