excerpts from Victory+ and WHL come together on most comprehensive streaming deal in junior hockey history
The deal will see the WHL regular season and playoff games streamed for free on Victory+ starting with the 2025 WHL Playoffs.
Victory+ and the WHL will offer free livestreaming of more than 700 WHL Regular Season games featuring all 22 WHL Clubs, the WHL Playoffs, classic games from the WHL archives, and unique on-demand content.
The WHL Playoffs will be available on Victory+ without geo-restrictions, giving fans the opportunity to follow their favorite teams and players on the road to the championship. With Victory+ offering a free, ad-supported streaming service, this ensures that the game is accessible to everyone, no matter where they are or what devices they use, including Samsung and Vizio smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, iOS, Android and web browser.
The WHL Playoffs will be available to stream live and on-demand starting March 28, 2025, and continuing until the beginning of the WHL Championship Series. Fans will be able to watch the complete 2025/26 WHL season beginning in September 2025.
My experience w/ Victory+ as a platform:
From watching Ducks games this season, they are only available for 2-3 days after first broadcast. I'd like to know how long they plan to keep the WHL games up!
Ongoing production quality issues. De-synced audio, glitchy video. Not the most stable or polished platform so I'm wondering how that's gonna go with the WHL given they've gotta manage 22 team broadcasts.
Video player is kinda ass. Clunky, no timestamps for goals or period markers, no closed caption options.
And I mean, the jankiness of any Major Junior broadcast is part of the charm - sooo much fun when I tune in for Wednesday Nights in the Dub!! But I'd love to.experience the actual hockey too <3
In the end these are small potatoes compared to FREE HOCKEY! FREE HOCKEY!!! FREEEEE HOCKEYEEEEEEE
WHL SUPREMACY FOREVER AND EVER GOODBYE!!!!

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States.  The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science.  SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research.  The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network.  Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor.  Gary’s always loved science. He was the dorky school kid who spent his weekends at the Australian Museum. Gary studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on a career in journalism and radio broadcasting. His radio career stretches back some 34 years including 26 at the ABC. Gary’s first gigs were spent as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist, and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. He was part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and became one of its first on air presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary was appointed Science Editor and quickly developed the StarStuff Astronomy show, which he wrote, produced, and hosted. The program proved extremely popular, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience -- based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. That compares to the ABC’s overall radio listenership of 5.6 per cent. The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually.  However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage.  Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently.  StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode broadcast in February 2016.  Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times a week (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and it’s available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

If you actually measure the amount of time you spend scrolling through algorithm-led social media feeds each day, it will probably add up to more hours and minutes than you’d guess. Time can quickly slip away while you're checking up on friends, celebrities, the news, and the viral memes of the day.
The term doomscrolling has sprung up to describe this behavior, which, let's face it, isn't usually the most edifying or the best for our mood. It's no surprise that the word began to gain traction at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, a period of lockdowns and social isolation that we're still feeling the effects of.
There are ways to fight back against doomscrolling though, some of which are built into your phone and can be enabled with a couple of taps. See how much time and mental well-being they can help you reclaim.
(The Android instructions below apply to Pixel phones running Android 15 or later. If you're using something different, you should be able to find similar features and settings, though they might not be in exactly the same place).
Turn Off Notifications
News and social media alerts can drag you into apps when you weren't even thinking about checking them. Disabling notifications can keep you from getting sucked in. You can shut off notifications altogether or just quieten them.
On Android, head to Settings, then tap Notifications > App notifications. On iOS, from Settings choose Notifications to see an app list.
Delete Apps
For a more extreme approach, you can delete these apps from your mobile devices entirely, which stops you from checking them at all. On Android, you can drag an app from the app drawer up to the Uninstall button at the top of the screen. On iOS, tap and hold on an app in the app library, then choose Delete App from the pop-up menu.
Deleting apps on an iPhone Courtesy of David Nield
This may just lead you to check these apps more often on the web—but you can always delete your accounts entirely. This is usually not too difficult to do: In the case of X, for example, head to the website and log in, then click More > Settings and privacy > Your account > Deactivate your account and follow the instructions.
Put Your Phone in Another Room
You could consider putting your phone in a different room during parts of the day—especially at bedtime, to avoid doomscrolling when you should be sleeping.
Note that several studies have shown that just having a phone in the same room with you can have an impact on your attention and focus, even if you don't actually pick it up and use it.
Set Screen Time Limits
Modern phones come with built-in tools that allow you to limit your screen time, so you can put restrictions on how long you use specific apps and how long you're on your phone overall. Of course, you're able to disable these limits as easily as you can enable them—it's your phone after all—but you can use them in combination with your own willpower to change your habits.
If you're on Android, you can open Settings and choose Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls, then App limits, to put some restrictions in place. Over on iOS, from Settings tap Screen Time, then App & Website Activity. On both platforms, you get a pretty detailed breakdown of how you've been spending your time on your phone.
Scroll Something Else
If you must spend time on your phone (what else are you going to do on the subway platform?), you can replace social media and news with apps like Calm for mindful meditation; Blinklist for reading summaries of books, podcasts, and talks; and Kindle for ebook reading, which will also be synced to your actual Kindle, if you have one.
Tell Your Phone It’s Bedtime
Enabling a bedtime schedule on Android Courtesy of David Nield
Both Android and iOS now let you set a specific bedtime on your phone, the idea being that it helps you wind down properly by steering you away from opening apps and doomscrolling into the early hours. These bedtime modes put limits on incoming notifications, dim the screen, and give you the option of using a more simplified phone interface late at night.
If you're on Android, open the Clock app and switch to the Bedtime tab: You can set start and end times for the mode and access settings such as turning the screen gray at a specific hour. On iPhone, head to the main iOS Settings screen, then tap Focus, then Sleep. The next screen will show all the available options and timers.
Get a Reminder to Stop
This is iPhone only, but Adam Davidson over at How-To Geek has a neat idea: Create an iOS shortcut to generate a snarky message from ChatGPT or Claude AI that warns about the harm of doomscrolling, and have it go off every time you open certain apps. The message can be shown on screen or read aloud.

Amanda the Adventurer for PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, and Xbox One launches October 10 - Gematsu
Tumblr media
Publisher DreadXP and developer MANGLEDmaw Games will release horror game Amanda the Adventurer for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 10, the companies announced. The Switch version will receive a free update on the same date with improved graphics, performance, stability, and gameplay polish.
Amanda the Adventurer first launched for PC via Steam on April 25, 2023, followed by Switch on September 19, 2023. iOS and Android versions are also planned.
Here is an overview of the game, via DreadXP:
About
Having inherited their Aunt Kate’s house, Riley Park starts exploring what the reclusive woman left behind. In the attic, Riley is surprised to find a stack of VHS tapes next to an old TV set. The tapes seem to be episodes of an early 2000s-era children’s cartoon they have never seen before. Intrigued, Riley pops the first tape into the VCR. Relatively simplistic in appearance, it appears to have been made locally and features a little girl named Amanda and her loyal yet shy best friend, Wooly the Sheep. While the episode appears charming and straightforward on the surface, an uneasiness starts to settle in as Riley realizes that Amanda and Wooly seem to be communicating directly through the television set. A gnawing feeling in the back of their mind presses them to stop, but Riley is compelled to continue watching the tapes. It’s almost as if Amanda needs something, and Riley becomes fascinated with finding out what that something may be.
Key Features
A short yet intricate single-player horror experience.
Animated tapes that tell an unsettling story, all under the guise of a welcoming children’s cartoon.
Classic, 90s-style CGI that recalls a simpler era of animation.
Characters who interact directly with the viewer—a dream come true for any 90s kid… or is it a nightmare?
Challenging, escape room-style puzzles using clues hidden within the tapes.

as one of your meagre following, I wish to know the answers to the questions 8, 29, and/or 39!
hii flowers!!💐✨ thanks for the ask :]
the Poast from which the questions
8. who was your first kiss?
oh lol, it was my “girlfriend” from elementary school. this story’s pretty funny so ill try to tell it.
so i was like 10 at the time? and still a boy, obviously. it had been valentine’s day and i think some boy asked a girl to be his girlfriend. so the kid i always sat next to was like, hey, which girl do you like? and, my memory’s a bit hazy, but i think i was like nobody and he was like no you have to answer!! so i gave a name (i might literally have picked someone at random) and then the next day apparently he’d told her and then She Was My Girlfriend I Guess. again, hazy memory, but i’m Pretty sure i tried telling her that i uh Didn’t Want To Date and then she starting crying? so yeah i backpedaled.
anyway i went on a “Double Date” with her and my aforementioned friend and his new girlfriend (yes this whole Well We’re Big Boys Now And Should Start Dating thing was kind of an epidemic at the time) where we went to one of theirs’ house and watched a movie or something. at some point the other “couple” kissed and then she and i got more or less peer pressured into kissing too. fun times.
i think she broke up with me a few months later (though by that time, we’d barely been speaking to each other, because again. we were 10 this wasn’t a Real Relationship). the next time i kissed anyone was with my first real girlfriend when i was like 19 (and not a dude anymore). which feels like forever ago, but it’s not even been 3 years yet!!
i don’t think i’ve ever told anyone this story in this much detail before. mostly because of pretty self-explanatory embarrassment. but again, this was elementary school, so you can’t really judge me…
29. what’s the last outfit you wore?
i’m straight t-shirt-and-jeans-ing it right now babey. last Real outfit i wore was blue jeans + white t-shirt + light pink plaid shirt. i’m… not really a fashion person.
39. what’s one feature you would change on tumblr?
now this is highly specific but on mobile (at least on iOS) you can go to any point of a reblog chain, including the OP, by tapping next to the poster’s URL. BUT if it’s an ask, you can’t go to JUST the original answer, because it uses a different UI/formatting. as far as i can tell, the only interactible element is the URL itself, which banishes you to the OP’s blog, rather than bringing you to the post itself.
so yeah That. i’d change that. so that it would work.

Uranus' moon Miranda may have an ocean beneath its surface, study finds
A new study suggests Uranus' moon Miranda may harbor a water ocean beneath its surface, a finding that would challenge many assumptions about the moon's history and composition and could put it in the company of the few select worlds in our solar system with potentially life-sustaining environments.
"To find evidence of an ocean inside a small object like Miranda is incredibly surprising," said Tom Nordheim, a planetary scientist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, and co-author of the study published in The Planetary Science Journal.
"It helps build on the story that some of these moons at Uranus may be really interesting—that there may be several ocean worlds around one of the most distant planets in our solar system, which is both exciting and bizarre."
Among the moons in the solar system, Miranda stands out. The few images Voyager 2 captured in 1986 show Miranda's southern hemisphere (the only part we've seen) is a Frankenstein-like hodgepodge of grooved terrain quartered off by rough scarps and cratered areas, like squares on a quilt. Most researchers suspect these bizarre structures are the result of tidal forces and heating within the moon.
Caleb Strom, a graduate student at the University of North Dakota who worked with Nordheim and Alex Patthoff of the Planetary Science Institute in Arizona, revisited the Voyager 2 images. The team set out to explain Miranda's enigmatic geology by reverse engineering the surface features, working backward to uncover what the moon's interior structure must have been to shape the moon's geology in response to tidal forcing.
After first mapping the various surface features like cracks, ridges and Miranda's unique trapezoidal coronae, the team developed a computer model to test several possible structures of the moon's interior, matching the predicted stress patterns to the actual surface geology.
The setup that produced the best match between predicted stress patterns and observed surface features required the existence of vast ocean beneath Miranda's icy surface some 100–500 million years ago. This subsurface ocean was at least 62 miles (100 kilometers) deep, according to the study, and hidden beneath an icy crust no more than 19 miles (30 kilometers) thick.
Given Miranda has a radius of just 146 miles (235 kilometers), the ocean would have filled almost half of the moon's body. "That result was a big surprise to the team," Strom said.
Key to creating that ocean, the researchers believe, were tidal forces between Miranda and nearby moons. These regular gravitational tugs can be amplified by orbital resonances—a configuration where each moon's period around a planet is an exact integer of the others' periods.
Jupiter's moons Io and Europa, for example, have a 2:1 resonance: For every two orbits Io makes around Jupiter, Europa makes exactly one, leading to tidal forces that are known to sustain an ocean beneath Europa's surface.
These orbital configurations and the resulting tidal forces deform the moons like rubber balls, leading to friction and heat that keeps interiors warm. This also creates stresses that crack the surface, creating a rich tapestry of geologic features. Numerical simulations have suggested that Miranda and its neighboring moons likely had such a resonance in the past, offering a potential mechanism that could have warmed Miranda's interior to produce and maintain a subsurface ocean.
At some point, the moons' orbital ballet desynchronized, slowing the heating process so that the moon's insides started to cool and solidify. But the team doesn't think Miranda's interior has fully frozen yet. If the ocean had completely frozen, Nordheim explained, it would have expanded and caused certain telltale cracks on the surface, which aren't there.
This suggests that Miranda is still cooling—and may have an ocean beneath its surface even now. Miranda's modern-day ocean is probably relatively thin, Strom noted. "But the suggestion of an ocean inside one of the most distant moons in the solar system is remarkable," he said.
Miranda wasn't predicted to have an ocean. With its small size and old age, scientists thought it would likely be a frozen ball of ice. Any leftover heat from its formation was assumed to have dissipated long ago. But as Patthoff pointed out, predictions about ice moons can be wrong, as evidenced by Saturn's moon Enceladus.
Before the Cassini spacecraft arrived in 2004, many scientists thought Enceladus was a frozen ball of ice and rock. But it was actually harboring a global ocean and active geological processes. "Few scientists expected Enceladus to be geologically active," Patthoff said. "However, it's shooting water vapor and ice out of its southern hemisphere as we speak." Enceladus is now a prime target in the search for life beyond Earth.
Miranda might be a similar case. It's comparable in size and composition to Enceladus, and according to a 2023 study led by APL's Ian Cohen, it may be actively releasing material into space. If it has (or even had) an ocean, it could be a future target for studying habitability and life. However, Nordheim cautions that there's still too much we don't know about Miranda and the Uranian moons to speculate about the existence of life.
"We won't know for sure that it even has an ocean until we go back and collect more data," he said. "We're squeezing the last bit of science we can from Voyager 2's images. For now, we're excited by the possibilities and eager to return to study Uranus and its potential ocean moons in depth."
Revealing the secrets of Uranus' icy moons
Uranus' icy moons have fascinated scientists ever since Voyager 2 captured stunning images of them, and valuable data about them, during its brief flyby in 1986. This latest study, led by Caleb Strom and APL's Tom Nordheim, is part of a broader effort at APL to uncover the secrets of these mysterious moons and the unusual planet they orbit:
2023: A team led by APL's Ian Cohen reanalyzed particle and magnetic data from Voyager 2's flyby and found Uranus' moons Ariel and Miranda may both be releasing material into the space environment around Uranus, possibly through plumes.
2024: APL's Richard Cartwright used observations of Uranus' moon Ariel by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope to conclude the moon may have a subsurface ocean that's replenishing its surface deposits of carbon dioxide ice—a topic he presented at the recent meeting of the American Astronomical Society.
