WayV "High Five"

The instrumental is generic but funky 2000's r'n'b, mixed with strong hip-hop beats that could have stood out more if the guys were better rappers. The raps were really the biggest weakness here.

BADVILLAIN "Zoom"

There's something really outdated about this comeback. Feels like a million other songs I heard between 2018-2020. I didn't like the "zooom" chant during the chorus, it sounds like a copy of aespa's "Armageddon", which I didn't like either.

Wonho "What would you do"

I almost didn't recognize Wonho, new nose, fully clothed, and singing in English instead of Korean. I think the song is alright, nothing special but not bad, like most of his stuff. BlackPink's Rose also released an English ballad, and her cursive singing is grating. BigBang are three now and released a track for their fans and for GD's big comeback album, "HSH" sounds like a BB leftover track from 2013.

ICHILLIN’ "Official"

I wasn't expecting club music from a group like them, but the house beat is cool. Of course the chorus is the problem here, it’s kinda flat and repetitive, but the beat is good - I actually think I'd like the song more if there was no singing at all.

Went to the kpop breakout tour last night and I so want to post a video for each of the groups but my internet is being very rude today and the uploads keep failing so I will just settle for writing down my thoughts!

Going in, I only knew who Trendz were but I looked the girl groups up before going and was excited to see all of them on the day.

U-chae was really cute on stage, so bouncy and just a fantastic opener for the show.

Ichillin were SO FUN. I only knew two of their songs and they did both of them so that was nice but I'll also definitely be trying to get more into their music since they were really good live & they were also very cute.

Craxy were good live! Which is cool since I didn't really vibe with their stuff when I looked them up before the show but their onstage stuff was really fun to watch.

Trendz did not disappoint me at all. This was the reason I got tickets and I'm really glad I was able to see them live. They did Villian with the ribbon prop and it was so cool to see that live. I also managed to get a pin when they were throwing them into the crowd! Which was cool since I was in the back couple of rows.

My only complaint about the show was the after show stuff, they had sold selfie tickets and so I bought two of them for Trendz & I had assumed they would have this stuff streamlined since they did like 20+ stops before this one but we were left waiting for THREE HOURS after the show before we could get in to do the selfies. And then they went so quickly it was almost a little bit of a letdown? I'm glad I stuck it out bc I absolutely love the pics I got. But I won't do this again because that wait was bonkers.

Overall though, loved the show. Everyone was spectacular. I'm hoping Ichillin and Trendz come back on a tour. Maybe on their own? Either way I'd love to see them again and I'm really glad I was able to see them this time around.

Introduction

Hey everyone, first of all sorry that this one is not a fic. I just wanted to pop-in and thanks everyone for giving my first piece a read with some even leaving notes and a follow on my page. Welcome everyone, I just want to reiterate that every stuff that I release is only a work of fiction.

Second of all, I would like to give a short introduction to pin on my page. You can call me Abe, a long time K-pop fan currently working to finish college. I'm really into bubble gum K-pop, but I do listen to any and all kind of songs in general. Some of my recent faves are Weeekly, Rocket Punch, StayC, WJSN, Ive and Red Velvet. I also follow multiple nugu groups like Ichillin' and Dreamnote, so you can expect me to write something on them later on.

Last but not least, a quick update on the things I'm working on. I'm currently finishing up the first part of a Yeonhee series while also working on a story board for a Chaeryeong one-shot. I wanted to release the Yeonhee piece this weekend, but I've been caught up from watching League's Worlds 2022 and Dota's TI. This time I'm also taking extra steps while finishing the story up, fingers-crossed this one will be better than the last. Hopefully I'll be able to release it sometime during next week (before the weekend because it'd just get pushed back even further with the worlds final and stuff.)

Random thoughts:

I thought KARD's albums would be like their tts, but they're not. They seem to have a pretty solid discography, I listened to most of it the other day. I like Icky and their recent EP. The members have good stage presence and are competent live singers but the girls are pretty weak dancers (especially the lead vocalist). I think the main rapper is probably their best performer and I like his rapping quite a lot.

I've been enjoying Dreamcatcher's tts more and more recently, but I haven't been checking out their albums (yet). They're some of the best kpop live performers. They sound great, they're good dancers with good choreos, and they know how to engage an audience. I remember I liked their Primavera Sound performance. KARD and them aren't conventional kpop groups. They're better suited for real live stages, especially festivals and stuff.

I think Secret Number finally had a good comeback. DOXA is a cool song imo. It's catchy. I hope it does well.

ICHILLIN's Siren is cool too, but pretty forgettable. It's kind of what you expect from small ggs, but that sound doesn't do well anymore. But the girls are solid dancers and performers, and very fit. I was surprised. They had great arms! I could see the muscle definition!

VERYVERY's Crazy Like That was really cool. It surprised me. They're great dancers and the song's chill and cool. I guess bgs are starting to adopt softer, brighter sounds that aren't necessarily cute or fanservice-y. They probably have to if they want to chart well anyway.

I don't know who ADYA is but Per is cool.

- Goodnight, Summer by Sungmin: it’s a ballad with a bit more. I didn’t expect his voice to be as powerful as it is.

- Red Lipstick by Lee Hi: I like it, but not as much as the releases from the last 2 weeks. Watch the video though, it’s a good time.

- Guard You by Young K: Since he writes a lot of Day6′s stuff, this is definitely reminiscent, but still has a little bit of its own flavor.

- Lalisa by Lisa: Some parts feel iconic, some parts feel like appropriation so obvious that even I notice it. IDK how to feel

- Stereotypes by STAYC: cutesy concept that is not for me

- GOT’YA by ICHILLIN’: I kind of like the chorus, and the very first musical hook but not so much for the rest
