I'd love to hear about your thoughts on Tywin x Joanna!
So like I said, someone once compared Tywin and Joanna to two historical figures who were married that I like a lot (Philippe le Bel and Jeanne of Navarre my absolute beloveds, no one was doing it like you do, Hollywood needs to scrap all their bullshit MQOS treatments and let me do something about Jeanne cuz she did it first and did it better) so I was already predisposed to like them. But they just tickle me.
As a Tywin enjoyer, the fact that she's one of those select few that got through his layers of Asshole, as well as being the only one who wasn't immediate family (since the only others Tywin shows genuine affection and love for are his siblings) bears merit. Especially when you add in Tywin's misogyny and his general disdain for people who aren't him, Joanna, a woman who is bound to him through marriage and a lesser blood relation, worming past the walls that have been in place for so long is fascinating. I think it speaks to a definite intelligence and shrewdness on her part, since I don't think Tywin can really interact with people who aren't on his intellectual level. He doesn't have time for people he considers lesser in any respect, so Joanna was obviously able to keep up, likely in administration based on her role as the Lady of Casterly Rock. I think that's also what helped her push past his defenses, because Tywin's defenses exist for a very specific reason. Some of it is just who he is as a person, yes, but Tywin was very intimately shaped by what he viewed as his father's failings, and developed a lot of his traits in order to be a stark opposite to Tytos, which doesn't breed someone who is going to open his heart to anyone at all, least of all a wife. But they managed to forge a partnership, and a genuine connection, in spite of Tywin's myriad issues.
The love between them was real, and it was true, and considering who Tywin is, that's fascinating. There was an actual and genuine affection between them, a love that we might expect to see from a much softer and more openly affectionate character that eminates from Tywin fucking Lannister. And the fact that he did consider Joanna as much an equal as he could, within the confines of Westerosi gender roles and his own sexism, that she held such an influence over him and his home (a home he fought so hard to restore to glory after Tytos and clearly valued more than almost any actual person) does hold a significant amount of weight. It's kind of like a dark mirror to Ned and Catelyn, in a way. Ned clearly values Catelyn as not just a lover and romantic interest, but also as a partner with equal value and stake in the marriage and in his life, which appears to be how Tywin felt about Joanna, and with that we can assume that Catelyn's devotion to Ned could be mirrored with Joanna having a similar devotion to Tywin. But whereas Ned clearly pulled rank on Catelyn a few times (especially where Jon was concerned) it doesn't seem like Tywin ever did it with Joanna, though I think that was also part of Joanna shrewdness in that she intrinsically knew to keep to "her role" and not necessarily try to counsel Tywin on things regarding, like, statecraft unless he specifically asked. It's kind of like that post about how a villain's love is always gonna be more intense and all encompassing because villainy operates in extremes in a way heroism cannot, Tywin being the kind of person that he is offers a far more encompassing and devoted love as well, provided he considers you worthy of it, which Joanna was (and is part of why he reacted so strongly when she died).
This is all very disjointed because I don't actively think of these two a lot, but their relationship says a lot about who they were as people, both for Tywin and for Joanna (tho it is a shame we have to rely so much on her husband to know about her, George stop killing mothers challenge). It was clearly mutual and very loving, and clearly as close to a relationship between equals as could happen in Westeros,a dn certainly to someone like Tywin. And I love them. Hate that both Joanna and Jeanne had to predecease their icy husbands by so many years, it's tragic.

Empress Joséphine as she appears on the inside cover of Lenormand’s ‘Mémoires de l’Impératrice Joséphine’
Portrait of Marie-Anne Lenormand by Jeanne-Philiberte Ledoux
JOSÉPHINE AND THE FRENCH PROPHETESS
Not a name on everyone’s lips these day, but in the Napoleonic era Marie-Anne Lenormand was a major figure at the French court. Born in Alençon in 1772, Lenormand became renowned as a mystic and prophetess. She claimed to have given predictions to a host of prominent individuals, such as author Germaine de Staël, central figures of the French Revolution including Maximilien Robespierre and Jean-Paul Marat, and even Tsar Alexander I of Russia. But it is for her close relationship with Empress Joséphine, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, that she is best remembered.
Empress Joséphine was intensely fascinated by the occult, much to Napoleon’s frustration. She had interests in tarot, necromancy, and other occult arts, but she was so taken by Lenormand that the mystic would become one of her closest confidantes. Through this illustrious connection Lenormand’s fame was secured.
Though she was not to all tastes, and repeatedly found herself imprisoned, if only ever for short periods. Initially incarcerated for attempting to save Marie Antoinette from execution, she is alleged to have successfully foreseen Robespierre’s execution, Louis-Philippe’s rise to the throne, Joséphine’s divorce from Napoleon, and Napoleon’s eventual fall and death in exile. Obviously these predictions ruffled feathers – Napoleon was hardly pleased with the news of his future demise, and his wife’s persistent interest in Lenormand proved a source of conflict in his marriage. One of Lenormand’s short stints in prison occurred whilst Napoleon finalised his divorce from Joséphine in 1809, which she had predicted when she read his palm in 1807, and her prediction of his death in exile was rumoured to be accurate to the day. This renowned accuracy of her predictions led, in 1811, to her even being asked to join the French secret police!
By 1820, however, Lenormand had left Paris and renounced horoscopes, claiming her days as a prophetess were over. She now turned her hand to writing, and began a second career as an authoress, producing a number of works including the Mémoires de l’Impératrice Joséphine (Memoirs of Empress Joséphine). Filling three volumes, the work included anecdotes from Lenormand’s relationship with Empress Joséphine, and even a copy of a letter of support Joséphine wrote to her when Lenormand faced persecution. These memoirs were dedicated to Tsar Alexander I, who sent her a diamond ring in acknowledgement. Lenormand died in 1843, and is now buried in Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris.

Okay, I'm a girl, who knows nothing about Frev, may you bless me with the knowledge about this Fabre, that you keep talking about? No need to mention pickles, I already know of them
An opportunity to ramble about Fabre? Oh man, what else could I ask for!
Fabre was a travelling actor and dramatist, who later in his life decided to participate in politics and the Revolution, joining the Jacobin club and siding with some of the key figures, like Danton and Camille Desmoulins. More of an artist than a politician, which he could be hardly even counted as. He’s mostly known for coming up with the names for months and days in the French Republican Calendar, which was used as a revolutionary replacement of the old regime gregorian calendar, and, unfortunately, his participation in falsifying a certain decree and illegally profiting from liquidating French East India Company, one of his many intrigues. But besides all the politics, he was a very romantic and messy mischievous man. A poet, after all!
Boring stuff aside, Fabre is, in my modest opinion obviously, one of the most intriguing and vibrant figures of the Revolution; not because of any progressive political ideas, like I said it's hard to count him as an actual politocian, but simply because he was an adventurous eccentric who loved to have fun and it showed in his lifestyle. He had many affairs, was skilled in arts and women (probably not only women as he was an actor, and this social group was rather far from what we would today call heteronormativity) somehow adored him. He also has one of the most hilarious and vivid stories about his life before the Revolution (like trying to drug his possible parents-in-law and their entire household, almost dying because of his amorous affairs). There was even an anecdote of him stealing a pair of shoes that previously belonged to Jean-Jacques Rousseau. During the Revolution, his life only got more interesting and there's planty of spicy drama around him.
Oh also, his name is interesting on its own. Fabre’s real name was Philippe François Nazaire Fabre, but as he considered it boring he started to call himself something more original, and that’s why he know him under the name of Fabre d’Églantine (aka the wild rose). The Golden Eglantine was a prize to be won in a contest in which Fabre participated, but he didn’t win it, being rewarded with a silver lily for his sonnet instead. As he was a very modest manTM (he wasn’t), he chose not to call himself after the prize he actually won as it would be too uppish to be recognized as Fabre du Lys, with ‘du Lys’ being mostly connected to the family of Jeanne d’Arc. He went with a more original option, and therefore the prize he was never rewarded with.

Ikemen Vampire - Jean d’Arc Route Summary Chapter 10
here is the tenth chapter!
to clarify again, I’m not very good at japanese so if anything is wrong or weirdly translated everything is on me.
of course there is going to be some spoilers so do not read if you don’t wish to know jean’s story yet.
*also little bonus at the end about Jeanne d’Arc real story! of course you don’t have to read it to understand his route in the game but it’s very interesting :)*
Tumblr media
The Count tells MC the history of the war between France and England, also known as the Hundred Years’ War...
Tumblr media
【 Comte 】  Jean was a soldier who led the French army during the Hundred Years War.
Jean fights for his country, France and defeats the English army. Jean d’Arc, soon after the defeat of the enemy, becomes a true hero for his people.
However, such glory won’t last for Jean :( 'The most tragic end of the world's heroes', as they say.
In the course of the battle, Jean was captured as a prisoner of war by the enemy. The King didn’t want to help him for some reason. 😡
And of course... 🙄
Tumblr media
【 Comte 】  Jean was convicted of heresy and it has been decided that he would be sentenced to fire.
After Jean's death, the king ordered a re-examination of his treason and found him to be innocent, and he went down as a hero of France.
The fact that Jean never knew went down as a hero after his death and this won’t change the fact that he died as an innocent. The protagonist is angry because it doesn't make any sense.
Tumblr media
From the bottom of my stomach, I feel a mixture of anger and frustration.
Here, the MC asks the Count a question. “Why did he bring him back to life after such a death?”
There's something different about the Count returning the great men of the mansion and Jean.
The MC wonders if Jean really wanted the Count to bring him back to life. Before the Count can answer, Jean appears, interrupts him, takes the MC by the arm and leads her away.
Tumblr media
【 Jean 】  One look at this man's face is enough. I don't like it. Let's go, woman.
As soon as they arrived in the library, Jean seems to have calmed down a little lets go of the MC's arm.
The protagonist apologises for trying to find out about his past without his permission, but Jean says that's okay. Jean says it's okay, because his life has been written about in books anyway. However, he says that he doesn't want the Count to tell her about it.
Tumblr media
【 Jean 】  ...It's not enough to say I hate it, it's too much.
Jean says that he is not a hero and that he is no different from the children's book he used to read, The Ugly Duckling.
it hurts me so much that this is the way he perceives himself when he deserves all the love in the world </3
Tumblr media
Jean's gaze fell on the book 'The Ugly Duckling', which was still on the table.
That’s it for chapter 10!
Tumblr media
here is some real background info about the real Jeanne d’Arc! She is such a brave and interesting historical figure. The epitome of a real badass, fearless and powerful woman.
so, the hundred years' war, if we summarize as much as possible is a series of armed conflicts that began in 1337. which opposes the kingdom of france and the kingdom of england.
in 1328 at the death of king charles iv, the question arises as to who will inherit the french crown.
one then has the choice between the cousin of the preceding king philippe de valois and edward iii the king of england who by his mother isabelle is also a descendant of the french throne.
you can imagine putting an english king on the french throne, wasn’t seen very well.
edward not happy, which led to a succession crisis, which lead to the hundred years' war.
obviously this conflict, quickly overcomes a simple succession crisis.
it's a mess.
what you have to remember, is that the english are gradually invading part of the kingdom of france.
in 1415, after the battle of azincourt and the english victory, the english king henry v controls much of the north of the kingdom of france, including paris for that matter.
but it is far from being the only concern.
what you have to keep in mind is that the king of france at the time, charles vi, is reached at rather regular intervals of madness.
this obviously prevents him from administering the kingdom properly.
as a result, in parallel with the conflict with the english, a real civil war breaks out.
to find out who between his son the heir charles and his cousin the duke of burgundy will be able to take back the reins of the kingdom; the duke of burgundy is supported by the burgundians who will end up allying themselves with the english and the son of the king the heir charles is supported by the armagnacs.
but during this time, charles is betrayed by his own father who disinherits his son and after his death, gives the crown to the english.
i warned you that it was really messy.
and it is in this incredible mess that our jeanne arrives.
and where exactly does jeanne come from? from domremy.
she is also often called the virgin of orleans.
she is associated with the city of reims, but jeanne was originally born in domremy.
and where exactly is this place? domremy is this little town to the west of the city of the vosges department, on the banks of the meuse river.
Tumblr media
isn't it pretty?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is jeanne's birth house,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she would have been born around 1412. the building classified as a historical monument since 1840 includes in addition to a cellar, three large rooms originally used to house the whole family, her parents and four siblings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
according to jeanne's trial, it is here that she would have learned to sew or weave which were two occupations of the young girls of the time.
her father was a ploughman, so she often had to look after the animals.
and since she is very pious she spent a lot of time praying.
she went on pilgrimage at least once a week, for example in the notre dame de bermont chapel, about three kilometres (as the crow flies) from her birth house.
Tumblr media
and jeanne d’arc, as you may have guessed, wasn't always called jeanne d’arc.
no, in history she has had different names and official nicknames.
there are of course the best known ones: the virgin of orleans, jeanne the virgin or even just the virgin and in the vicinity of domremy she was also called the jeannette de rommée, in connection with her mother's name. she has even signed several letters with the name jehanne.
and it's even more complicated if you're interested in her surname “d'arc”.
which was originally written darc, without the apostrophe. here again there have been many variations, and i'll mention a few of them: tarc, dars, darx and even d'ailly or daly according to the phonetic transcription of her name, with a lorraine accent. from there we move on to duly, then du lys.
when the king ennobled jeanne and her family, it is written on the deed, la dame du lys in reference to the royal coat of arms.
this is the magnificent bois-chenu basilica, which was built between 1880 and 1940 in honour of jeanne.
Tumblr media
and for the record, this incredible basilica was sometimes considered to be the place where jeanne would have heard voices.
however if we refer to the trial, it is in her father's garden, near the house, that jeanne would have started hearing voices, celestial calls, coming from saint catherine of st. margaret's and the archangel saint michael.
the divine mission entrusted to her was very “simple”.
she was only commanded to be a cavalier, to cross a kingdom occupied by the english to go and find the future charles vii and convince him that she is the one sent from heaven.
to help him to take his place on the throne by her coronation in reims.
to show him how to liberate the kingdom of france, of the english presence.
it seems to be an easy enough mission for me. 😅 (nope)
so obviously you can imagine that the people didn't take her seriously right away. it took a few years before she managed to convince the world that she wasn't completely crazy.
- jeanne?
- yes?
- this is the voice.
- is someone talking to me?
- you are the chosen one, jeanne, join me.
- yes, i'm coming.
- i hope you like human barbecue. (ok i'll stop :/)
how is the legend of jeanne forged? how does one go from being a peasant girl eager to help, to jeanne of arc, heroine of the kingdom of france?
this is le centre d’interprétation (the interpretation centre), which is just behind jeanne of arc's birth house and retraces her youth and adventures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
her journey is incredible, at 17 years old, jeanne can't stand not doing anything anymore, she has been hearing voices urging her to act for four years now.
so she decides to return to the châtellenie de vaucouleurs, to meet captain robert de baudricourt, one of the king's faithful followers and after several vicissitudes, she manages to convince him. it wasn't easy, i remind you that her main point was that she hears voices. but yeah, he finally agrees to send her with an escort, join the heirn in chinon.
Tumblr media
the journey is quite long and above all risky, we are talking about more than 500 kilometres and in this period of turmoil, the dangers were quite present especially if you look at the map, one realizes that the small expedition crosses areas not controlled by the enemy coalition.
Tumblr media
fortunately, everything went well for jeanne, who arrives at her destination on march 1429 and gets an audience with the heir two days later. he was quite suspicious of this young woman at first, who claims to hear divine voices but according to the story she made a revelation to him that we don't know which eventually convinced him.
for the entourage of the suitor of the throne, it's not that simple and you can understand them, betting on jeanne is a little bit like a poker game. so they insist that she will be given a few interrogations, she is questioned about her life, about her morals and finally confidence is established, she is equipped with military equipment. she then undergoes mini combat trainings and here we go, her dream is about to come true, she joins a supply convoy in blois and on april 22nd, with more than 4000 men, she is headed for orléans.
the arrival of jeanne of arc changes many things.
her faith, her confidence in victory gives hope to the soldiers and to the inhabitants, who are filled with new energy. they manage to win in less than 10 days, 10 days and the english are obliged to give up their plan, which consisted of taking the city and then attacking the south of the loire.
jeanne who comes out of this battle with this image as a victorious, ultra badass woman and just earned her nickname... la pucelle d'orléans (the virgin of orleans).
thanks to her victory in orleans, jeanne thus becomes a kind of national heroine. she represents by her fame and her qualities, a not insignificant asset for the heir in his fight against the english and the burgundians.
but what makes a real difference is less her qualities as a war strategist and more her ability to charm and to galvanise the troops and the inhabitants along the way.
it's quite simple, before jeanne's arrival, the english had a reputation for never losing their invincibility.
and jeanne achieves the feat of restoring confidence in a possible victory.
it gives the impression to the troops that they are going to receive a kind of divine help and it changes everything in the soldiers' minds, all the more so because before her arrival there was a prophecy, who said that a virgin would help defeat the english so when jeanne arrives, everyone thought "it's ok, we're saved"!
jeanne persuades the future king to start a ride to reims who is in the middle of enemy territory, to be crowned.
jeanne thus succeeded in carrying out one of the following missions which were supposedly entrusted to her by the voices she hears; in other words, since she has succeeded, she is necessarily an envoy of god, and that for the mood of the troops, it makes a huge difference.
unfortunately after the time of victories comes the time of defeats.
after the coronation, the king and jeanne no longer really agree. she is convinced that her mission is to keep the english out of france.
the king, for his part, is longing for a little rest.
for example, he does not feel at all capable of taking back paris, while jeanne, a little bit stubborn, goes there anyway and suffers a failure.
on top of that she is wounded, she gets a crossbow arrow in her thigh, moreover, she breaks her sword which had for all victories...
it's a bad sign.
some people think that the virgin is abandoned by god. some time later jeanne went to compiègne, a city besieged by the burgundians and by some english contingents and once again it goes wrong, she is taken prisoner in may 1430, by the burgundians.
she tried to escape, but all her attempts failed and in november of the same year, she was sold to the english. jeanne is then taken to the castle of rouen, where members of the church judge her for heresy.
the trial was to say that charles vii was crowned thanks to a witch, she is also blamed for everything and anything, for dressing in men's clothing,
for deferring directly to god's judgement without going through the church, for hearing the voices of demons and not of saints.
jeanne really plays her life on each of her answers, in addition, she faces accusers totally committed to the english cause on her own when she was only 19 years old.
moreover, the witnesses are obviously not chosen at random, everyone who could speak up for jeanne is under pressure. everything is being done to ensure that she is condemned. finally, she ends up at the stake, on the market square, and we make sure there's nothing left of her body, to prevent it from being turned into holy relics.
and then after the end of the hundred years' war, i.e. almost 25 years later, the church reverses this first court decision. king charles vii wants to wash away the insult that was done to him through this trial and he pushes jeanne's family to ask for a review. pope calixtus iii agreed and jeanne was rehabilitated in 1456. the investigations carried out are more serious, many of jeanne's contemporaries jostle to plead in her favour and even people who had once spoken badly of her finally return to saying good things about her.
the first judgement is broken and the young woman's memory is rehabilitated.
an unusual little fact in the end - many people have not been able to admit that the story of the virgin ends up on a pyre. for them it was impossible, this story was too beautiful, this too extraordinary woman.
and it went far enough that people found stories of women, who a few years later claimed to be the real jeanne.
just imagine them saying stuff like "oh yeah, yeah it's me i didn't burn at all, my face has changed a little bit but it's me, i assure you, believe me, really".
a certain claude des armoises is said to have pretended to be her, in the metz region. after having acquired a certain renown, having been given gifts by former relatives of jeanne; she even went so far as to meet two of the virgin's brothers, who (hold on because it's completely insane) believed her.
they really believed it was their own sister who had died at the stake.
it's a crazy story!
well, we don't really know if they really believed it, or if one pretends to believe it for financial reasons for example.
in any case, this woman, who was talked about everywhere, is unmasked by the king himself, so that this fraud can be stopped.
in the end, i find this story quite unusual.
here are the friends!
i hope it wasn’t too long to read (it probably was) and that you have learned two, three little things on our dear jeanne d’arc. after all, she is one of the most famous women in history!

About Minah’s family...
CAROLINE MADELEINE DELACROIX MONTPENSIER, 43 || THE AUNT || CEO of Delacroix Corporations
“Being powerful is like being a lady.
If you have to tell people you are, you aren't.”
DATE OF BIRTH: May 13
PLACE OF BIRTH: Paris, France
NATIONALITY: French
BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood
FACE CLAIM:  Melanie Laurent
TRADEMARK: Icy blond hair, perfect skin, demure composure, and sophisticated style. Is known for gracing social events wearing either power suits or evening gowns that always flatter her statuesque figure.
FAMILY BACKGROUND The House of  Delacroix is an ancient noble family in France. One of the most powerful dynasties in Europe today, the family dates back to Jeanne Louise de Bourbon, Marquise de Montespan, a legitimized daughter of Louis XIV, le Roi Soleil, who ruled over France between 1642 and 1715. Jeanne Louise was given the title of Duchess of Bourbon and Princess of Condé upon marrying a distant cousin of King Louis I of Spain, who later on founded the House of Delacroix, taking the name from his nobiliary title of Duc de Delacroix. Over several centuries the Delacroixs have maintained complex ties with Spanish and German royalty, but never fond of attention they kept themselves distanced from the spotlight during the post-revolution era. During la Belle Epoque, however, as Paris recovered from the horrors of the Siege and The Commune, the Delacroix settled back in the City of the Lights after a long exile in the Provence.  Along with the ópera, the prose of Marcel Proust and the paintings of Picasso, a new Empire was born under the command of the visionary Jacques Luc du Delacroix who became a pioneer in the modern French textile industry and founded a major clothing and apparel company that managed survived the Nazi occupation.
Fast forward to the present and according to the New York Ghost, The Delacroix Family is currently the wealthiest wizarding family of France. Besides inheriting large amounts of gold and state from the older generations, the family has amassed a big fortune with a revamped fashion business that has become one of the biggest emporiums of luxury clothing in the world. Likewise, and unlike most wizards, the Delacroix Family has also ventured into the muggle world where they have built a huge conglomerate that runs a business in different fields, ranging from energy suppliers to fashion. The members of the Delacroix family are notorious in their own fields without exception. From politicians to artists, they all have succeeded, becoming recognized names in both worlds. Nevertheless, the Delacroix remain slightly hermetic in regards to keeping a pureblood line and their traditions as wizards. They might appear open-minded and unconventional, but they’re rather conservative and elitist.
FAMILY AFFILIATIONS  The Delacroix are direct descendants of the French, German and Spanish nobility. The patriarch of the family, Louis Pierre Philippe Delacroix has particularly been linked to Le Roi Soleil (Louis XIV) and the House of Bourbon, being a descendant of King Louis XIV of France (ruled 1643-1715) through his daughter Jeanne Louise de Bourbon. In the most recent generations, the family has also been linked to the Spanish nobility through the Infanta María Inés de Galicia, who's Louis great-grandmother, as well as German nobility through Louis’ wife, Madame Laetitia Montpensier, the daughter of the German Countess Marie Louise Larisch von Moennich.
The Delacroix House also maintains strong ties with Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, where Louis Pierre was headmaster for few years and currently serves as one of the 12 members of the Beauxbatons Board of Governors. They're also linked to the French Ministry of Magic, the French Wizarding High Court of Law and Parliament and the Academie Française des Sorciers (French Academy of Wizards), where the family has been appointed important positions throughout the last decades. In the muggle realm, they're related to the French Government as Louis Pierre Philippe’s brother has served as Prime Minister and other important political positions during the Fifth Republic and with other members of the family playing key roles as high profile politicians.
SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS: Like previously stated, The Delacroix family is a powerhouse in both the Muggle and Wizarding Worlds. The Delacroixs are listed among the richest households in Europe and according to the New York Ghost, they’re the unrivaled richest Wizarding family of France.
QUICK BIO The eldest daughter of  Louis Pierre Philippe Delacroix and Madame Laetitia Montpensier, Caroline was born and raised in the heart of Paris and was educated in both the muggle and the magical world. She grew up in an almost private world of unimaginable splendor and security, always encouraged by her parents to excel and become a role model to her younger siblings.  From a young age, Caroline possessed great confidence, impressing her family and notable members of French high society, who noted her poise and competence when she started to host fancy soirées with only 17 years of age.
Like many other women of her class, Caroline patronised a great number of charities during her twenties. Upon having access to her fortune, one of her first acts was to found an education foundation in honor of her father. However, her main causes have always been connected to the assistance and welfare of women. She was president of the French Young Women Association, a charity which sponsored college education for young women in need. Nowadays Caroline has stepped as CEO of her family’s conglomerate. A passionate and perfectionist woman to the bone, she usually plays the role of the disciplinarian among her siblings, although contradictorily enough she also happens to be the kindest and best natured of them all. She is that one person who always takes the lead during troubling times and fixes problems for every member of her family, for what she is considered to be the future matriarch of the Delacroix House.   LOVE LIFE: Caroline has been romantically involved with a number of prominent men, including Paul-Henri Jeseaux (a Prime Minister of Belgium), film director Marcus Huston, British diplomat Carl Shaughnessy, French-Russian heir Andrei Levesque Pavlovitch and painter James Harris. However, following the Delacroix women tradition, Caroline’s relationships have been short-lived and rather disastrous, which is probably why she’s focus on her family business instead, conducting a strategic restructuring and modernisation of the Group during the last years.
MOST LIKELY TO BE FOUND: When not at work, probably plotting a fashion takeover with a glass of champagne in hand or chilling home and enjoying her favorite wizarding show The High Society, which has been said to be inspired by the European wizarding elite, (herself included).
RELATIONSHIP TO MINAH: As Minah grew up, Caroline was usually the one handling her day-to-day raising. Despite being a busy woman, Aunt Caroline played an important role in Minah’s education and would usually take her to business meetings and around high society parties although MInah was nothing but a child. Nowadays, Caroline is that one aunt who always knows best; offers the best-unsolicited advice at the right moments, and still drags Minah around the fanciest parties of the Wizarding World.   OTHER FACTS - Lives to slay power suits. - is to blame for Minah’s obsession with baths and champagne. - Will probably never marry because she expects perfection from everybody and so far all her past relationships have ended in disaster. - Has been picked as the most influential woman in fashion for three years in a row by Forbes.

Two ladies, two crowns - of Jeanne de Dammartin and Eleanor of Castile
by Anna Belfrage
Henry on his way to France
In 1234, Henry III of England was in his twenties and ready to wed. It was his obligation to marry a fertile wife, someone who would present him (and his kingdom) with a lusty, squalling heir. It was also his obligation to marry a woman who would bring other benefits, like a nice chunk of land or extremely valuable connections. It went without saying that a royal bride also had to be of high birth with a nice line-up of illustrious ancestors. After some consideration, Henry decided that the woman best placed to become his wife was a certain Jeanne de Dammartin. The lady came with various benefits, the principal one being that she stood to inherit not only the county of Ponthieu but also Aumale, thereby giving Henry III a foothold in Normandy and an opportunity to recoup on everything his father, King John had lost. Further to this, Jeanne also came with an impressive pedigree, being the granddaughter of the princess Alys, that unfortunate woman who was promised to Richard Lionheart as his wife, raised in England where she purportedly was seduced by her future father-in-law, Henry II, returned as soiled goods to France where her brother, King Philippe Augustus, hastily married her off to the much, much younger William of Ponthieu. Not that Henry III cared all that much about Alys' unhappy life: the important thing was that little Jeanne had Capet blood in her veins.
Jeanne's uncle on his way to his prison
On her father's side Jeanne was a Dammartin. Probably made Henry nod in approval, as the Dammartins had proved themselves to be loyal to the Angevin kings. So loyal, in fact, that after the Battle of Bouvines in 1214 (where Philippe Augustus crushed the English and their allies) Jeanne's uncle, Renaud de Dammartin had been dragged off to captivity, fated to spend the rest of his life chained to the wall. A harsh punishment meted out by Philippe Augusts who considered Renaud's decision to support the Angevin to be doubly treasonous: not only had Renaud sworn to serve Philippe Augustus, but he was also one of Philippe's oldest and best friends. Well, until Bouvines. Afterwards, that friendship was as dead as a rock. Renaud's brother (Jeanne's father), Simon, had fought with his brother at Bouvines. After the battle, he fled and spent a number of years in exile. His wife, Marie of Ponthieu, was left holding the can, so to say. Philippe Augustus had had it with the Dammartins, and when Simon's father-in-law passed away, he therefore denied Marie her inheritance, which seems rather unfair as Marie's father had fought for Philippe Augustus. Fortunately for Marie (and, indirectly, for Jeanne) Philippe died in 1223. His son proved easier to negotiate with, so Marie was recognised as countess of Ponthieu and after a further few years of negotiation, Simon was allowed to come back home. To show his goodwill, Simon made a promise that he would not marry off any of his daughters without the consent of the French king. As an aside, it is interesting to note that his daughters were all born in the 1220s when Simon officially was exiled. I'm guessing that old adage "distance makes the heart grow fonder" was valid for Simon and his Marie as well, ergo a certain willingness to take risks to meet and hold each other.
By the time Henry III decided to pay court to Jeanne, twenty years had passed since the Battle of Bouvines. So maybe Henry was hoping that bygones were bygones – or maybe he didn't know that the Dammartin daughters could not be wed without royal French consent. Whatever the case, negotiations started in secret in 1234. Simon and Marie were likely delighted at the idea that their eldest would become queen consort of England, their grandson a future king.
Queen Blanche
However, early in 1235 rumours about the proposed match reached Paris and the ears of Queen Blanche. This formidable lady was the widowed mother and regent of the young French king Louis IX and being a most conscientious and capable ruler, she wasted no time in informing Papa Simon that he could forget about marrying his daughter to Henry. The French king would not consent. Neither, it turned out, would the pope. Swayed by Blanche, he refused the dispensation Henry had asked for.
Eleanor of Provence
Henry soon found a new bride. I am sure Blanche was delighted by the fact that Henry chose to marry Eleanor of Provence as this meant the new English queen was also the sister of the future French queen, Marguerite. But Blanche had one remaining headache: she somehow had to compensate Jeanne de Dammartin for the lost opportunity of becoming a queen. Queen Blanche was Castilian by birth, daughter of Alfonso XIII and Eleanor of England. Eleanor was Henry III's aunt, so Blanche and Henry were cousins, albeit Henry was close to two decades younger than Blanche and thereby of an age with Blanche's precious son, Louis. He was also of an age with King Fernando of Castile, Blanche's nephew. (It all gets a bit complicated here: Fernando and Louis were first cousins, Henry was first cousins with both Blanche and Berenguela, Fernando's mother) In 1235, Fernando's first wife, Elizabeth of Hohenstaufen, known as Beatriz in Spain, died. By all accounts, Fernando and Beatriz had enjoyed a happy—and fruitful—marriage. Now, the Castilian kings had a bit of a reputation when it came to women, but as long as Fernando had been married to Beatriz, he'd shown little inclination to stray. This may have been because Fernando spent most of his life fighting the Moors, women and leisure being something he rarely had time for. His mother Berenguela decided it was better to be safe than sorry and started looking for a new wife for her son. Blanche was quick to suggest Jeanne and Berenguela approved.
Fernando
Instead of marrying an English king, Jeanne was now set to marry a Castilian king. Was she thrilled to bits? No idea. Rarely did anyone ask a young bride for her opinion in matters of dynastic importance, but I suspect the Dammartins weren't too happy with this new marriage for their eldest daughter. After all, Fernando's first wife had left him with at least nine surviving children of which seven were sons. It was therefore highly unlikely that any son of Jeanne's would become king. Also, Jeanne was of an age with her eldest stepson, Fernando being close to twenty years her senior. Whether she objected or not, in 1237 Jeanne and Fernando were wed in Burgos. In 1239 she gave birth to a son, Fernando, who would go on to become Count of Aumale. Some years later, she gave birth to a daughter, Leonor. Three more sons followed of which two died very young. In 1252, Jeanne became a widow, her dying husband entreating his eldest son and heir to treat his stepmother fairly and with kindness. Not much of that around, as Alfonso never warmed to Jeanne whom he found severely lacking compared to his own saintly mother. Even worse, Jeanne conspired with Alfonso's younger brother Enrique when this disgruntled gent threatened rebellion. There were even rumours that Jeanne and Enrique were lovers, but that should probably be treated as salacious gossip. Upon his deathbed, Fernando also commended the care of his younger children to his eldest son, and while Alfonso may have had issues with his stepmother, he seems to have genuinely cared for his half-siblings. Especially for Leonor. While Jeanne had been in Spain birthing babies, Henry and his Eleanor had been in England doing the same. Well, not Henry, obviously, but he was more than delighted when his eldest son, Edward, was born in 1239, interestingly enough at almost the same time as Jeanne's first boy was born. Some years down the line and Henry started looking for a bride for his son. As always, a royal marriage was a negotiating tool, and in this case Henry wanted to come to some sort of accord with Alfonso X of Spain, this related to a dispute involving Gascony going back to the wedding between Eleanor of England and Alfonso VIII.
Alfonso
In 1254, Henry and Alfonso reached an agreement over Gascony. According to the treaty, Henry's eldest son would marry Leonor (or Eleanor), at the time thirteen or so. Jeanne's opinion in the matter was never asked for. After all, Leonor was an Infanta of Castile and it was her royal brother, not her mother, who had the right to arrange her life as it suited him. Besides, by 1254 Jeanne was no longer in Castile, having returned to France with her eldest son. Late in 1254, Leonor married the recently knighted Prince Edward. They would go on to have a long and happy marriage, albeit marred by all those babies who died. Something of a full circle, one could say, the son of Henry marrying the daughter of Jeanne. While Leonor—oops, Eleanor—adapted to her new life, Jeanne was enjoying the relative freedom of being a widow with a steady income. As Countess of Ponthieu in her own right she had the wherewithal with which to spoil herself and others. Truth be told, Jeanne had quite the indulgent side to her, so she happily spent far more than her income. Soon enough, the title passed to her son, but this did not stop Jeanne's lavish spending and I am guessing her son was more than relieved when dear mama married again. Jeanne's eldest son died in 1265, the title of Count of Aumale passing to his young son. The title of Count of Ponthieu passed to Jeanne's second surviving son, Louis, but he too was destined to die relatively young and due to the customs of Ponthieu, his children could not inherit the title. Instead it reverted to Jeanne. Upon Jeanne's death in 1279, Ponthieu—and Jeanne's huge debts—passed to Eleanor (and Edward).  That piece of land which the French had been so determined to keep from the English king now became an English fief and would remain so until 1369. I wonder what Queen Blanche would have thought of that! As such a profession does not exist, she became a financial professional with two absorbing interests, namely history and writing.
Presently, Anna is hard at work with The King's Greatest Enemy, a series set in the 1320s featuring Adam de Guirande, his wife Kit, and their adventures and misfortunes in connection with Roger Mortimer's rise to power. And yes, Edmund of Woodstock appears quite frequently. The first book, In The Shadow of the Storm was published in 2015, the second, Days of Sun and Glory, was published in July 2016, and the third, Under the Approaching Dark, was published in April 2017.
When Anna is not stuck in the 14th century, she's probably visiting in the 17th century, specifically with Alex(andra) and Matthew Graham, the protagonists of the acclaimed The Graham Saga. This is the story of two people who should never have met – not when she was born three centuries after him. The ninth book, There is Always a Tomorrow, was published in November 2017.

Follow the rules before you define them
Black & White Self-portrait wit glasses by Wix Photographer Juliette Jourdain
“This above ALL:  to thine own self be true.”
~ William Shakespeare
 (Hamlet)
LOL, I have to chuckle.  I admit that I try a number of different online outlets or portals to connect and network.  As I continue to explore, I extrapolate a lot of mistakes being made by a similar group of people.
It would appear as though the majority of marketers think that their prospective clients are dumb or tuned out.  They think they are making the rules, when , in fact, they are breaking the rules.  I thought of a few to get started to those who reach out to prospect for others to hire you as a social media expert. Rule No. 1 Know your audience and what they are looking for Rule No. 2 Lead by example Rule No. 3 Ensure your follower to follow ratio is weighted by who is following you, not the other way around. Rule No. 4 Try to get a few online influencers in your corner. Rule No. 5  Be your own unique voice, don’t try to say what you THINK others want to hear. Rule No. 6  Be creative, be thought provoking, be visual Rule No. 7  Don’t try to build your acclaim by 3 degrees of separation Rule No. 8  Do NOT plagiarize others’ ideas and claim them as your own. Rule No. 9  Give credit where credit is due Rule No. 10  Say thank you, show gratitude, share appreciation These rules can be expanded.  I likely will.  The main idea is to get started with the idea and then let things flow and the ideas evolve.     Rule No. 11  Test your ideas, check for traction, respond to interaction or reaction Start at Rule No. 1 again.  Like a snowball, go through the process again, see what you can attract and build upon as you go through the steps each time. Rule No. 12  Comment to an idea originator if something they said, you tried, and share what worked, what didn’t work. Rule No. 13  You will only build a crowd once you fade into the crowd or are enveloped within one.
Tulip:  my favorite flower
As today putters to an end, I bid adieu to 55 and resolve to coasting towards 60 now that I’ve crossed from the mid-point to the other side.  Thanks to one of my greatest Social Media friends, Mott, shared Conan O’Brien’s birthday post on Facebook and I happened to see this morning.  How cool is that eh?    I like the idea of having “something in common with Conan O’Brien” …. and a whole list of greatest in the following company whom we keep on celebrating an April 18th birthday ….
Bon Fete mes ami :o)

Bon Fete mes ami :o)

Bon Fete mes ami :o)
