mr prostate, may i ask you to explain to me how tumblr interaction works? (the thing is that i actually spent less than two years here -registered a long time ago, when i didn’t know english at all, and now i’ve returned, but i still don’t fully understand how the system works)

when reposting with addition, when is it better to use text and when is it better to use hashtags? i understand that tags aren't continuing so someone can repost "clean" post after my repost, but you can also repost it clean if you go right to op blog... what, um... ethical/aestetical significance do tags have? why everyone are using it? does it, like, simulate mumbling or thoughts that should not be voiced?.. also i find it a little uncomfy when someone puts "prev" in tags and you should dig in to find this prev, and then older prev, and again and again...

also i understand that if i don't want my quote to be reglogged and only want to interact with autor/comments, i should write a comment, right?

and what the "queue" means in tags? sorry i'm so stupid please initiate me into the tumblr communication mystery

please don't apologise!!! tumblr is a very unique type of social media and it has a bit of a learning curve!!

in the earlier days it was actually the norm to add a comment to the reblog instead of the tags, and tags were solely for organisation (like a tracking tag, or a character tag, etc.) but when tumblr changed the layout, i think around 20...14? where it didn't look like a conversation anymore, with millions of lines, is when tags slowly got more popular to talk in than a reblog comment. people also started to get kind of annoyed with reblog additions like "never not reblogging this" and opted to just. use the tags instead.

the only real difference is the way it looks, and if you want to search for a specific tag you might get a lot of clutter, but there isn't really any difference aside from 'aesthetics'. so just do what you want to do! this is your internet space and you can do with it whatever you want!! people can also easily reblog something without an addition by indeed going to op's blog, or just clicking "hide reblogs" when reblogging.

prev means previous tags and they're quite easy to track down, unfortunately there isn't much you can do to stop people from saying prev if they agree with your tags djdjd. to find prev tags easier, you just click on the 3 dots and then "view previous reblog"

comments/notes are indeed the most effective way to only communicate towards the op (or also the person that reblogged it if commenting on their reblog), but other people can still reply to your notes. though, you can also just reblog it and add your comment that way and ignore others interacting with your addition.

when there's a tag referencing a queue (queue and i, in queue we trust, what about queue is real, etc.) it just means that the post was stored for later and posted when the reblogger was asleep or at work for instance. sometimes it's something queued manually (like a birthday thing, specifically set to post on their birthday) or just in order of when it was queued (though it can be shuffled ((queued posts for specific days don't get shuffled))).

just remember that tumblr is for everyone, and there's no right or wrong way to use it (mostly). it's your little corner of the internet, and you get to reblog whatever you find cool, and if you like to express it in comments rather than tags then so be it!! don't let others rain on your parade 💖💖💖

pretty art. You've figured that part out.

tag ur posts. With the fandom, with the characters, with the kind of content it is ("art," "headcanons," "gifs" whatever). Tumblr's tagging system is, in fact, functional these days, and people do use it to find posts they like! I do! When I wanna find stuff that might interest me I browse actual tags 20x as often as I look at the for you tab

use RELEVANT tags. On some sites it's normal to throw on irrelevant tags "for reach." On tumblr it makes you a douchebag. If I'm browsing a character's tag and I see a piece of fanart that doesn't include or even mention the character I'm looking for and yet has their tag, I will block that artist and never see anything they make ever again.

make your blog easy to navigate. This ties into tagging. idk what you make but let's say art. Tag all your art "#my art" or whatever you want and link your art tag in your pinned post. If somebody sees one of your art posts and likes it, they're gonna want to go to your blog and find more. MAKE IT EASY FOR THEM. if you don't tag any of your art and there's 200 reblogs in between your art posts they're just gonna leave rather than scroll long enough to find the next one.

interact with other people. I don't mean fishing for interactions, "hey your art's cool wanna come look at mine?" Just TALK TO people. You see a post you like the ideas of, reblog it and compliment OP's work in the tags, or leave a comment continuing the discussion they started in the post, whatever. When people see your name regularly they'll probably click on it and look at your blog and THEN they'll see your stuff. If they like it they like it. If they don't, you'll still be having more fun because you're participating in your fandom rather than standing on the side hoping someone looks at you.

don't cringe at yourself for your own creations when you post them. "here's my art sorry this looks bad," "I know this is kinda shitty," using something like "#[your name] shut up" or "#[your name]'s shitty writing" in your personal tags. Not only does it make you feel worse about your creations, it also TELLS THE VIEWERS that it's shit and they should see it that way—and that has a subconscious effect. Just put it out there, don't apologize, don't discourage the people who DO like it. If you've gotta cringe at yourself do it IRL or in DMs where people browsing your blog won't see. The more amateurish or corny or self-indulgent you think your post is & the more you're afraid it might embarrass you, the more important it is that you post it without flinching.

the most important point is "make stuff that interests people and that they wanna look at." I don't know how to teach you how to do this. I have no clue what appeals to people, I'm the person that keeps getting questions about Bill Cipher's menstrual cycle.

I want say this in general because the drama is done and we aren't ever going to get a response here.

Firstly, thank you for saying that, while I never look to represent anyone, it is a relief to know that I wasn't the only one thinking it.

I've wonder why simsecret is such an environment recently, and then I realized that the simblr community space is a PR warzone.

People, in general, are afraid to speak up, afraid to speak their minds, for fear of losing notes, being canceled, receiving anon hate.

There's a bizarre and unspoken rule here that you need to do everything publicly in a very calculated manner and it incentivizes people to not be themselves and think about how other's will perceive them more. Then you consider that a good chunk of people in this community are not very good people, so who's rules are we even playing by?

I've been hearing from a lot of new and old simmers who state that this space is very depressing for them because they felt lonely and anxiety when attempting to interact with each other. Anxiety when posting their gameplay. Anxiety when asking questions to other simblrs. Anxiety when reacting to other people's post.

Tumblr was made to connect with people. So why is simblr causing so much anxiety and pushing people who want to connect and interact and speak up; into silence?

Then spaces like Simsecret start to make a little more sense. It seems to be a rebellion to the atmosphere here in simblr. Same can be said for the anon feature here on tumblr.

When people are having an easier time connecting on FB, Reddit, and Discord than tumblr, despite being mutuals here it's safe to say there is a root problem in this space.

I think this whole situation reveals a bigger problem with simblr in general, that just hasn't really been addressed.

I want to offer some solutions here that are pretty simple so I hope no one takes this as being condescending:

If you really like someone's blog, don't even look at their notes. Heart it. Send them a direct ask off of anon and talk about what you love about their content.

Reblog their content, again, don't look at the notes, if you like it and it makes you happy, and you want it on your page, reblog it.

DM simblrs, I mean is this a stretch? Just reach out and say hello. If you want to befriend them, be the first to extend that olive branch. The worst they can say is no or not respond, that's not that bad.

Real life topics such as queer-phobia, racism, sexism, etc will always rear it's head into any space with humans in it. You bring your biases with you. If you see someone express very harmful views, speak up. This doesn't mean or have to mean you or that person is getting canceled. These could easily be teachable moments, and even healthy dialogue. Unless you literally studied and work in sociopolitical fields and are an active activist, the vibe should be to not expect anyone to know everything. These ideals are so deeply engrained into us from a young age, it wouldn't be fair to expect each and every person to know exactly how these complex super structural systems work.

Tell jokes sometimes, I'd love to know what sense of humor you guys have, we get memes like once in a blue moon. Let's try to not make this space so serious, it has everyone on edge.

There is so much beautiful art work and content in general right here on tumblr but I've heard simblrs express anxiety with reblogging that because they don't want to lose followers by posting non sims content. I literally love the rest of tumblr for the very reason that I can translate that work back into my game. And I just thought someone's photography or drawing or story was so good I wanted to see it on my blog.

I mean bouncing off the previous one, why don't we interact with the rest of tumblr? That would be dope.

And this shouldn't even be regulated to the rest of tumblr, I'd love to engage with more ts1, ts2, and ts4 simmers as well.

I mean I think I've made my point, because I can keep going with this. I don't think this is going to fix sim secret or the need for simmers like blackswan to dirty delete. I'm actually very disappointed in that whole situation because she could've received a lot of support but she dug herself into a deeper hole after her actions. I'm sad for her and sad that this situation was flipped into drama and not that black simmers in general are tired of the micro aggressions. Which is a way more serious message. But people are afraid to speak up. So I guess everyone active in this community will keep going around and around in this cycle. I certainly intend to KEEP applying the solutions I've outlined above, anyone feel free to join me.

Hi anon!! I totally get where you're coming from. I never really thought too much about it and I don't know if I have a specific method, but here's what I would do, if I were you:

Don't be afraid to talk and reach out to people. It doesn't have to be sliding in their DMs, which I understand can be awkward if you don't know the person, but routinely commenting on their posts, their fanfic, their art, or reblogging their posts with nice and enthusiastic comments is a great way to make friends! I don't always have the time or the spoons to do that unfortunately, but I try to do it as much as I can. I really appreciate all the creators in fandom and I try to show that.

If you're a creator (but even if you aren't) don't be shy about posting your work and maybe tagging people in WIP memes or tag games or something like that. Not everyone responds, but I feel like tagging ppl sometimes opens the door for more communication, and if they tag you back you can just keep the conversation going.

When you see people reblog a prompt list or ask game, send them asks!!! Please, just send them an ask!!! This is actually a pet peeve of mine tbh, people reblogging an ask list or ask game from someone who obviously wants to get asks lol (why else would they rb it) without sending an ask first. I feel like it's basic fandom etiquette, but it's also a really nice gesture even if you don't know the person that well. Showing that you actively care about what someone has to say is the first step into getting to know them, I think, and it's also just very nice to be included.

Getting into a fandom discord or group chat isn't always easy or intuitive, but if you do find yourself in one, don't be afraid to talk!! I may or may not be suffering from "can't shut the hell up disease" LOL but I'll take any opportunity to talk about my faves that I can get 😅 It may feel like you don't have much to say at first, but sometimes just reacting to what others say and being generally nice and positive can be a good first step.

It can be tempting to lurk around and only look at what others say or post, or to read fics without leaving a comment, or to like art but not reblog it, but it does nothing for helping you meet people. Imo this is actually really pervasive and not good for fandom overall. To each their own, of course, I'm not going to tell anyone how they should engage in fandom, but my best and most lasting friendships were made because we started reading each other's fics for example, or complimenting each other's art, or they reached out to me because this or that meme made them think of me, or we tag each other in games and stuff, or we took part in fandom exchanges, etc etc. It might be hard at first if this isn't something that comes naturally to you, but I do think it's worth it if you want to be part of a community. And, like any community, fandom requires give-and-take to thrive.

TLDR: sometimes seeing ppl in an established fandom interact with each other and having friends can be nerve-wracking and you don't know where to start, but honestly fandom is all about engagement. Basically, talk to people! Compliment their art or their fic! Tag them in games! Send them asks! Be kind! That’s it 😊

Wiro Scribe is a freshman who, despite his love for programming and his antisocial (bullied) tendencies, got sorted into Octavinelle instead of Ignihyde. He’s a short guy with white hair and freckles all over pale “doesn’t go outside” gamer skin. He’s timid, afraid of his own shadow, and despite trying his best to avoid trouble, he has a horrible habit of falling into it (He probably ends up on the side of the prefect during chapter 3, getting kicked out of the dorm for three days in the process). He’s in NRC because despite him having the disposition of a sad wet puppy, when backed into a corner he will resort to nasty tactics. He has a glass eye and his unique magic lets him see through others eyes for five minutes a day. He is also from flower town, so grapes are his favorite food.

He is scared of azul, TERRIFIED of the tweels. After the events of chapter three (assuming he gets off the hook for helping the prefect) he’s a bit less afraid of the Octatrio, and is able to at least hold a conversation with them. Wiro has such an obvious crush on the freshman characters, it’s so bad and probably part of the reason he helps the prefect (he would probably end up part of the freshman polycule). He’s the pop music club’s sound mixer which has worked out ok for him. He works reception at the Mostro Lounge. Oh, and Floyd calls him Seaglass since he’s so jittery and he’s got those bigbig eyes..

Floyd was bored too say the least. Honestly. Ever since Sea Slug's overblot was annihilated everything seemed to quiet down and had become very hum-drum. 

Which really didn't suit the eccentric moray-mer. Not at that moment, anyway. 

“This suuuuucks. I want someone to pester and tease.”

A chuckle reached his ear and he rolled his eyes at his twin. 

“You're just as bored as me, so don't even start.”

Jade raised a brow before grinning unrestrainedly, showing off far too many teeth than most humans would be comfortable seeing. It did nothing to Floyd who had an identical smile. 

“I would like to think I'm smart enough to not ‘start’ anything with you that I would have no hope of winning. That said, you are quite correct. It has become increasingly dull as of late.”

Just then, Azul strode into the Monstro Lounge, carrying what looked like and endless stack of papers. He was heading their way and Floyd’s expression became disgusted. 

“Nope. Not doing it. No papers for me today, thanks.”

Azul sighed in that haughty way of his. When it was directed at others, Floyd found it to be one of the best sounds in the world. When it was directed at him, it pissed him off to no end. 

Jade chuckled in that amused but tentative way of his where Azul was concerned. The tentative part was a smokescreen, of course. There was no part of his twin that was truly tentative. 

“Don't fret, Floyd. Azul asked me, as is appropriate considering I am the Vice Housewarden, to assist with paperwork today.”

“Good. I'd say have fun but I don't think paperwork is any fun at all so I won't.”

He went back to grumbling to himself about the lack of stimulation when another student came in and looked around. The dormmate in question gave an amusing squeak when his eyes met Floyd's and the moray smirked. 

Ah, right on time! 

“Oh, hey there lil Glass Squid. What's got you here off hours? If you're looking for some fun I'm looking for the same. Why don't you come talk with us for awhile, huh?”

Like clockwork, Jade chimed in. 

“Ah, if it isn't Wiro. Yes, it has been too long, hasn't it Floyd? I think the four of us are long overdue for a little chat. Don't you agree, Azul?”

Azul, who had been sorting out the papers into piles, looked up and glanced over in the direction his childhood friends were looking. A smirk slipped onto his face but he quickly covered it with his hand until he could smooth out his expression into one of concern. 

“Ah, Wiro! Yes, quite. Why not come sit and we can have a nice, long conversation.”

The Octavinelle first year narrowed his eyes, one blue and uncanny and the other green, as his mouth formed a set line. 

It was clear to Floyd—just as he was certain it was clear to Jade and Azul—that their little firstie had no desire to have any length of conversation with the three of them, much less a long one. Immediately, Floyd could feel his mood lighten. 

“Aww, come on, Glass Squid. Why not pop that eye out and we can play a little ‘Squidy-in-the-Middle’. You'd be the Squidy, obviously.”

Wiro crossed his arms with a scowl. “You three don't scare me anymore so whatever this is, you guys can just… just not.”

“Oooh, Glass Squid’s got a little bite in him today. That's okay, I like when my prey fight back.”

Jade snickered as Azul chuckled. 

“Did you hear?” Jade began, as if he were just bringing up the weather or something equally as ordinary. “That little Wiro here got himself not just one but six boyfriends.”

Azul blanched at that, his mask slipping. Floyd took on a surprised look but grinned. 

“Hell yeah. Glass Squidy doesn't play around anymore, do you, dude?”

Wiro was blushing but said nothing. 

“Six…six boyfriends. I can't imagine you have enough time to finish your homework with so many partners to contend with. Who even are these boyfriends?”

Wiro was tight-lipped but it didn't matter. Jade chuckled. 

“Would you believe that he joined both Ace and Deuce in their relationship as well as Jack and Epel only for Epel and Deuce to suggest they just be together in a polycule?”

Azul and Floyd raised their brows before looking at Wiro with more consideration than he'd ever given them before. 

“That's only four not counting our very own Wiro. Who are the other two?” Azul asked. Jade smiled pleasantly, his sharp eyes not leaving the first year for a second. 

“Well, Yuu joined the five of them not long after. The part that makes the least sense to me… is Sebek is the sixth member.”

Floyd let out a huge guffaw at that causing Azul to cringe at the sharp noise as his twin chuckled. 

“I'm sorry… I thought I heard you say Crocodile is part of this first year love fest. You're pulling my leg, right, Jade?”

“Not in the slightest, Floyd. Ask him yourself.”

“No. Don't bother asking me. Who I'm dating is none of your business.”

“But you got Crocodile to date you and lil Shrimpy to boot. Not bad, Glass Squid. Not bad.”

The first year seemed surprised but pleased with the praise. 

“Well, then be prepared to be even more amazed ‘cuz Sebek was the easiest to get to join.”

The three older students laughed, obviously amused by the fiery show. 

“Well, regardless of how or why it happened, it's apparently having a good effect on you. Still, if you didn't come for a chat, why are you here, Wiro?”

It was a fair question, Floyd supposed. A boring one but fair. 

He was also interested in the reason why as well, for all the question was boring. 

“Oh, right! Yeah. Azul the Headmage is looking for you.”

That got Azul’s attention immediately. Floyd and Jade smirked as their childhood friend sat up straight before getting up just as briskly. His light purple-blue eyes glared at Wiro, who just barely held back a smirk. 

“Why did you not lead with that upon your arrival,” he asked, irritation laced in his words even as he tried to keep his voice as neutral as possible. 

Wiro smiled in a fake pleasant smile as he crossed his hands behind his back. It was generally a sign of respect but for this little squid it was all show. Floyd could tell. 

Huh, lil guy is finally learning the way things are done around here. Good for him. 

“Ah, I was planning on it until you all decided to pick on me. Tit for tat, and all that. Isn't that what you wish us to learn?”

Touché, buddy. Touché. 

Azul narrowed his eyes but Floyd could see that even he was impressed at how well their little firstie was holding his own. It was a far cry from the way he'd been back before Azul's overblot. 

Refreshing, really. 

Floyd also no longer felt bored. 

“Well, get outta here before we decide to put you to work.”

Wiro didn't seem to need telling twice, quickly making his exit as Azul sighed again. 

“What in the Sea Witch’s benevolence could that imbecile want now? When I've already got so much work to do?”

Jade sighed and shrugged. “I haven't the slightest clue but I must admit I'm intrigued. For all he is a useless educator, you can't deny that things get interesting when he comes to call.”

Floyd perked up at that. “You're so right. I say we go hunt him out and find out what it is he wants. Then Azul can do what he does best and make sure it's worth our time.”

Azul sighed again. “You both make excellent points. Very well. Floyd, you'll come with me for bargaining and contingency purposes. Jade, I'll leave the paperwork to you and we'll fill you in when we return.”

“Of course. I would expect nothing less. Have fun with you two but not too much. We do want to stay on our esteemed Headmage’s good side.”

Azul scoffed at that. “For how much he gets from the Monstro Lounge’s profits, it would be in his best interest to keep the three of us on his good side.”

The twins agreed and with that they got to work—Jade digging into the paperwork as Azul and Floyd took their leave to hunt down—that was to say seek out—Headmage Crowley.

To answer this question in more detail: No, I have not felt personally targeted by a post on this blog, and I'm grateful for that. But I know too many people who have been, and that's really fucking sad.

Maybe the intention was for this blog to be a fun place where people could post their dirty, dark secrets, but all it's become is a cesspool of negativity.

Too many people are stressed and over-researching their fics because of lore police on here ranting over minute details.

Too many "bigger" creators now feel guilty for not interacting with every single person who comments on their work or drawing the MC of every person who draws theirs first.

Too many people who don't interact with this blog, who have blocked it even, have been bombarded with Anon's saying their work is being attacked here. That's not a nice feeling.

Too many people worried their work isn't “good enough” and only got attention because they posted early on.

People have considered deleting entire works because of posts on here.

And honestly, I've probably missed a lot more ways people have been negatively affected.

Sitting here and saying, "I'm not omniscient" does not change the fact that people are very obviously being hurt by the content posted on this blog.

Fandom should be an escape. Not a place people have to grow a thick skin to interact with.

You're correct that my aim with this blog was to give people a place to admit things about their interest in the game and its characters that they would not say publicly. Specifically, I've had multiple people relay to me anonymously that they love my work who also admitted they were afraid to express their appreciation by way of public engagement on it. I thought it might be interesting to see what other secrets people may be hiding, and we've gotten some good ones.

But, you're right that the nitpicking over fics and fanart has gone too far. The AI argument has been done to death, for instance, and we know historical accuracy is an issue in fanworks (as it's bound to be in any fandom based on a specific time period), and we also know that people are feeling underappreciated in their efforts to contribute to the fandom.

I am not one to cater to the most sensitive person in the room. From the inception of this blog it had detractors, including multiple people who submitted very direct attacks against me personally, some of which I published. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these same people had submitted some of the nastier confessions just to sow discord then pointed them out in order to prove how bad the blog is. But the idea that someone might be so devastated by this or that general comment or correction that they want to quit fandom or remove their work honestly never occurred to me. I've made an effort to ensure that posts aren't aimed at any particular individual, but that does leave them open to interpretation and anxious people may assume the worst.

Until a few hours ago, I had never heard about any of those purported reactions you listed above - not even from people with whom I share servers and DMs - and I do wonder who/how many people we're talking about here and whether the posts really were even about them. There was only that one girl who dramatically "left the fandom" because people were saying critical things about Sebastian. Other than that, not one single person has reached out to me (and anons are obviously open) to say "hey, I was hurt by x/y/z" or "I think this confession is about me."

I can also tell you for a fact there are certain bad actors trying to stir up trouble, particularly for me and this blog, which they're primarily against because they don't like its admin. I can't control what those individuals do as far as sending anons that may or may not be accurate, and I suggest that everyone block them when they rear their heads.

That said, I can admit that we've gone a little off course with both the tone and content of some of the confessions. I'll be implementing new guidelines (to be determined, and I welcome input) surrounding the issue of fandom and fanworks.

"i took the miracle move-on drug; the effects were temporary" referring to baxter trying to make himself as temporary as possible so mc would forget about him easily - and it not working? hi syd! you mentioned that you’ve won several writing contests (as if that isn’t already obvious from your fics) and i was wondering if you have any tips? finding a good contest, meeting the deadline, catering your submission to the contest and judges, etc? i’m a young writer hoping to win some contests, for scholarship money, college apps, and just. yknow for fun. but i also have adhd, and i have a really hard time finishing projects and meeting deadlines and i guess i was wondering if you have advice for that as another writer with adhd

hey!! so in terms of finding contests, even just researching "writing contests for high schoolers" (im guessing ur in high school based on u saying "college apps", i do not mean high schooler in like a derogatory sense) can usually take u to some helpful directories!! there are a lot of sites these days that will compile contests and applications that u can navigate by deadline/rules. looking to see if institutions in ur city, county, or state offer writing contests is also super helpful: a lot of colleges, professional schools, hospitals, organizations, etc. have these contests and it always looks good if u engage with institutions that are (somewhat) local!! im a really bad source of advice for reaching deadlines because writing is actually the one thing that i dont have trouble meeting deadlines for, but only because when i write something, i write it all at once. this usually means i only write that first draft (which isn't my Advice dfghdfgh), but it also means getting the Hard part over. ur going to feel compelled to like line-by-line write something perfect that everyone will love, but its important to write down Something as soon as possible because there is always time to go back and change things. dont write it with the judges in mind, don't think about like someone hyper-analyzing every word when ur writing things down.

speaking of judges, u do not have to cater ur writing specifically to them, but there are key things to drop in that can improve ur chances. if u are writing for a contest sponsored by a specific entity or associated with a specific institution, u need to do some research and weft some acknowledgement and appreciation into ur writing even if u do not give a fuck about it. try to flip ur prompt on its head. question the prompt in the first line. get meta about it. write about u contemplating the prompt, contemplating ur essay. writing from a different perspective, questioning the prompt, drawing from ur experiences and being vulnerable (people LOVE when u say shit like "i learned that i did not have all the answers. my strength came from asking others for help") will catch their attention and make u stand out. don't be afraid to put a personal flourish in it just because u might not sound Super Professional And Academic. ur trying to make urself stand out and u need to show that through self reflection, dissection of what ur being asked, interrogating ur own experience and bringing that to the table.

so this is kind of vague and basic but my main pieces of advice are find competitions that relate back to ur identity or location or future aspirations, literally just write down whatever comes to mind and do not worry about it being judged when ur working on it, and put urself in ur writing. i know this isnt super helpful, so if u ever want to come off anon and dm me for more help, editing, etc., please dont hesitate!! writing is a really powerful tool and a REALLY good skill to have

Hey! First of all, sorry about the wait to get this answered! I put everything on queue with 5 hours between it (im trying to move down to four or even three hours but I would need a really really steady flow of content for that) so I saw this ask at 10pm my time but because I already had two important posts in the queue the earliest I could get this was 10am my time.
