Book: It Lives In The Woods Pairing: Harry x Noah Word Count: 532

“How did you find this?” Harry asked as he followed Noah up the ladder in the back of the library. They had spent the whole afternoon in the library seeing if they could find any information on Redfield. All their other friends had other obligations or early curfews, so it had just been Harry and Noah. The library was going to close in an hour and their brains were fried, so Noah had suggested a small field trip. He’d led Harry to the back of the building, sneaking them into a room marked “employee only.” Not that it was difficult, the door wasn’t even locked.

As Harry emerged on the roof of the building, Noah held out his hand to help him up. Harry smiled as he took it.

“I worked here the last two summers,” Noah finally answered.

“Really?” Harry asked, feeling the cool autumn breeze blow through his hair, a few pieces sticking to his face. As he ran a hand through his hair, he continued, “I always got more of a diner-worker vibe from you than a librarian.”

“Yeah, well, I didn’t really care much what job I had as long as it got me out of the house.” Noah sat down on the roof, looking out into the woods behind the library. “And making money was nice.” 

Harry sat down next to him, the wind once again blowing his hair into his face. As soon as he managed to get it all out of his face, the wind just blew again.

“Turn around,” Noah said.

“What?”

“Just turn around.”

Harry turned until his back was facing Noah, when Noah put his hands on Harry’s shoulders to stop him. Noah gently combed one of his hands through Harry’s hair. “Is this okay?”

“Yeah. Um, what are you doing though?”

“I’m getting your hair out of your face.” Noah divided Harry’s hair into the sections he needed to make a french braid.

“Oh. You know how to braid hair?”

“I used to braid Jane’s hair when we were little. Dad didn’t know how, Mom wasn’t really around enough too, and Jane’s arms got tired when she did it herself.” 

“Are you doing a french braid?” Harry asked as he felt Noah’s hands dance through his hair. “Isn’t that kind of complicated?”

“A little, I guess. Not really once you get the hang of it though. Jane really liked french braids. But she always insisted on having a fishtail braid when we went swimming. Said it made her feel like a mermaid. I was getting really good at those when she…” Noah trailed off as he finished braiding Harry’s hair and tied it off with the ponytail he kept on his wrist. “Anyway, it’s not great ’cause I’m a little out of practice, but it should keep your hair out of your face.” Noah blushed as he looked away from Harry, who had turned back around to face him. 

“Thanks, Noah.” Harry looked down and saw Noah’s hand resting in between them on the roof. He slowly moved his own hand to cover Noah’s. But instead of acknowledging it, they both just looked out into the dark woods ahead of them.

His eyes were wide with fear, whites encasing darkened irises. There was no escaping his past. Noah flinched. He felt a hand on his arm, jolting him from his nightmare. He softened when he looked at you. Wordlessly, you pulled his shaking form into a hug. You rubbed his back and cooed. "Not true." He mumbled. Still, you did love him.

You Never Walk Alone | ILITW drabble

Book: It Lives In The Woods

Pairing: Noah/MC [w/ Gender neutral MC.]

Point in time: Right after chapter 8, "Breakdown."

Word count: 320

A/N: Last day of ILITW appreciation week. I had to do something, anything, even if I lost my previous work;; So, this is a very small Noah/MC drabble that I started a while ago, so I decided to add a bit more onto it and post it. I do in no way consider myself a good writer, but I do hope you enjoy it! (づ´ ³`)づ

In the twilight haze, he walked, head low.

"What did I do to deserve this?", he bitterly thought, "My family is gone... My friends came back, but they're now against me... What do I have left?"

After walking for a while, he came to an abrupt stop, too tormented. He only wanted this mess to end. This pain to cease. His sister's spirit to be free. But he had nobody. Those who he called his friends refused to take action. He couldn't do it alone. He was utterly, completely alone. A tear slid down his face, until he felt a smaller hand wrap around his.

He looked beside him, to see...

"MC?"

They smiled at him, caressing his hand with their thumb silently.

"You're not alone."

His eyes widened in surprise. Were his thoughts that obvious?

"They're not," they said, still smiling, "I just know."

He smiled back sadly.

"You don't have to feel obligated to-"

They didn't let him finish, taking his other hand in theirs.

"Noah... Listen to me. I know. I understand. Let me be beside you through this. Whether you want it or not... It'll be us against the world. Both of us."

Unable to hold back his tears, his head fell on their shoulder, body wracked with sobs, and they held him close, until the storm of his heart had quieted down.

"I-I'm sorry," he stuttered, blushing as he pulled himself from them, "I don't know what came over me."

They smiled at him, taking his hand in theirs.

"It's okay. It's not your fault. It never has been. I'll always be here for you, no matter what happens. You never walk alone."

Touched, he could only smile back. The pain still lingered like a ghost at the back of his heart, but perhaps there was still hope after all.

And so they walked, hand in hand, surrounded by the warmth of the sunset.

For the follower congratulation contest thingy. You know most stuff about me (remember the screenshot I pmed a few weeks ago). Personality wise I consider myself to be quiet and a little shy to people I am not used to but when they get to know me, I cannot stop talking and being a lot more extroverted. I consider myself bi/pan. The writing prompt 33(I think. The one about Beware of ghosts) got me more interested.

YOU PUSHED THE heavy doors of the cemetery, and your gesture was immediately followed by a sinister, shriek creaking. The sound alone made you grit your teeth, but Ava, next to you, remained unbothered, if not excited, as the fence parted to reveal an empty graveyard, misty and silent, stretching as far as your eyes could see in the middle of the night.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” you asked her for the hundredth time, and she nodded with a childlike smile.

With a sigh, you stepped first into the eerie-looking burial ground and closed the door behind Ava and you. It’s not that you were scared of being there, alone, at midnight, in a place far from the town center and close to the wounds where people had been buried for centuries… no, not at all. You just had one thousand better things to do than being there. But no matter how much you had tried to make Ava see your point of view, she had just insisted that you were “too scared” to come with her, and, well, you hardly stood for any critique in your courage.

So there you were. Exploring a cemetery at midnight with Ava Cunningham, who was having way too much fun for someone who’s stepping on dead bodies underground.

“This is sick,” she murmured to herself, watching a crow take off in the distance with a shrill cry.

“No, I’m going to be sick,” you warned with a groaned. “You can’t have one good idea, can you?”

“Nope,” she responded with a grin. “Now come on! Unless you’re scared…”

“I’m not scared”, you muttered under your breath before following your longtime partner in crime in the depths of the cemetery.

You took a few hesitant steps, your hands furrowed in your pockets, in respectful silence. Something about talking in the middle of so many graves felt wrong, and even if Ava didn’t exactly agree with you, she remained hushed.

“So what are we doing here exactly?” you murmured after a few seconds in which you had uneasily taken in your surroundings.

“I don’t know. Visiting?” she hummed back with a shrug.

“Ava, you don’t just visit a graveyard. Especially not at midnight.”

“Well, there’s a first time for everything.”

Rolling your eyes, you buried your hands in your sweatshirt once again and suppressed a shiver as you resumed your little walk. Ava seemed creepily in her element as if nothing could’ve distracted her from her cautious inspection of every saddened willow, every lonely nocturnal butterfly. Not even the ominous sign planted on the ground, a warning in crimson letters that you read with your heart in your throat.

“Beware of the ghost… wait, what - what do you mean, ‘beware of the ghost’? What ghost?”

“Chetav,” Ava snarled as though it was obvious, and the mere fact of you asking was the stupidest thing she had ever heard. “We’re in a graveyard in the middle of the night, of course there’s bound to be a ghost at some point.”

“You don’t believe in that stuff, do you?” you pressured her, eyes wide.

You had suddenly started to scan the obscure surroundings that had engulfed you, but an eerie mist you swore wasn’t there when you arrived made it terribly hard to distinguish anything.

“Maybe?” she replied with a mischievous grin you absolutely hated as soon as you saw it.

And just like that, she walked off in the distance, absorbed by the depth of the night, out of your sight, to inspect yet another lethal curiosity.

“W-Wait! Ava! We shouldn’t split up!” you stammered, blindly running after her. “For… safety reasons! What if you trip and break a bone or something?”

“I’ll be fine,” echoed the sinister tone of the teenager from everywhere around you at once.

You didn’t doubt for a moment that Ava would be fine, and even if she found herself face to face with a ghost, she’d probably be too amazed by it to even have the time to be scared and would perform some kind of witchcraft on it to manage to take a picture. No, Ava would be fine indeed, you were convinced of it. But you weren’t so sure about your own ability to remain calm in the face of danger. Or rather the cadaverous face of a bloodthirsty ghost, but when you really thought about it, that was much more frightening than whatever fallen branch you could trip on, or a bear trap you could lose your foot over.

“Wait,” a whisper rung out in your ear, making you stop dead in your tracks. You didn’t dare say anything nor ask who had just spoken. You were pretty sure it was Ava from somewhere in front of you, but the possibility of it being a supernatural source ghosted in your mind. “I think I saw…”

You waited. Long, tremendously long seconds, for an explanation. For the end of her sentence. For what she had seen. For what you possibly would have to run away from.

And then, she screamed.

You didn’t hesitate, this time. With a yell yourself, ordering her to escape with you as fast as she could, you ran for your life. You hadn’t run that fast in all your life, but the adrenaline pulsing in your veins, the rapid and shallow pulsations of someone breathing behind you echoing your own, your footsteps on the grass and the unmistakable feeling of something brushing your ankle gave you the strength and stamina you had never thought you would need someday. Until you almost ran straight into a tombstone, followed suit by the sound of someone whistling, or… could it be…

… laughter?

“Hahaha! Chetav, you are amazing! You were so scared!” Ava exclaimed behind your back, out of breath from both the running and the laughing.

A wave of anger - and something deeper you didn’t want to admit just yet, probably relief - washed over you as you turned on your heels to face the girl. She was holding her ribs and shaking due to her hilarity; you, however, didn’t find her behavior funny at all.

“You’re completely stupid and immature,” you spat, trembling a little yourself. “Don’t do that ever again.”

“You were so scared! ‘Run, Ava!’” she mimicked with an exaggeratedly panicked voice.

“I didn’t sound like that.”

“You did! You were so scared!

“I wasn’t scared. Just… cautious.”

And she resumed laughing with even more intensity as you stood there, arms crossed over your chest, eyeing Ava with a raised eyebrow.

Something was now crystal clear in your mind: you would never, ever again go on an adventure with her. Especially not if it involved cemeteries, dark nights and spirits.

Sanctuary

Author’s note: This is the idea I have for a while, and it involves three drabbles from three different books, but the theme is the same. Consider this as an early Valentine gift for you guys.

And by the way, in the It Lives in the Woods drabble, MC allow Noah to sacrifice himself to Mr. Red, which is a contrast to the other fanfic I’ve recently written. Hope you enjoy

In the World of Modern Royalty

Night has fallen at the garden of Cordonia, and many people who had come for drinks, singing, and/or dancing had. But few others had chosen to stay behind, wanting to enjoy this wonderful even a bit longer before the next, important event comes up for the kingdom.

Liam never thought he would feel this happy again. After the scandal that force to tear him and Riley apart and making him choose Madeleine as a future queen and wife, the king intolerably had to go through with balancing his duties and wedding plans (that actually sounds worse than execution) while trying to find evidence to clear Riley’s name. Lucky for her, Liam sent their friends out to help her out, and they accepted the tasks without any hesitation.

It was painful to deal with because they have to be separated from each other at arm's length as much as possible. Riley was pretty much one of the few people who made Liam really happy, and he couldn’t stand the thought of not being able to be near her. Or worse, not being able to see her again…ever. Regard it was a necessary move since their affairs could cause even more agitation in public for both of them. Plus, Riley never wanted to put herself between anyone’s relationship, even if that kind of relationship was meant to be a political rather than a romantic one. One of the reasons why Liam loves her so much since the former waitress has a strong sense of morality and determination.

But that was over now. Liam broke off the engagement to Madeleine. Riley’s name was cleared and happily accepted the proposal from the king at the Statue of Liberty, making them officially engaged. This was one of the best moments in Liam’s life. Sometimes, he thought to himself that it was too good to be true and the whole thing was a dream, but it wasn’t. He’d finally get to be with someone he knows who is the one for him and they will forever cherish that moment, no matter what.

Soon, the party winded down and while every else took the exit out of the garden, the newly engaged couple stay behind for a tender moment. They held on to each other in an embrace, foreheads touching each other, leaning for a kiss goodnight before parting ways again. Liam knew that Riley had always been his light. He didn’t think he told her yet, but she’s was his sanctuary.

In the World of the Cursed Woods

Andy knew without the doubt the Vivian is the strongest and the bravest person in the group, even more so than him and Ava combined. However, he also knew that even the strongest person has a breaking point.

They leaned on to her whenever things get rough at school and surviving the hell load of chaos Mr. Red created for them. Yet, Vivian rarely relies on them and can be reckless sometimes, such as the time when she went to the woods to confront Mr. Red alone and made everything worse. This proved that pulling a dangerous stunt like that can be too much for one person.

Maybe that was one of the reasons why she became cold and distant after another tragic incident with the shadow demon…

The gang found out from Vivian what happened to Noah that day, and they could see her dark eyes full of regret. Despite their reassurance, she blamed herself for letting Noah sacrificing himself to set his sister free and wished it could’ve been her. Maybe what he did to them was unforgivable, but at least he was willing to do something right at the end for everyone.

PTSD had already hit Vivian, just like how it hit Dan. Perhaps it was the dying part that caused the heroine to crack. She couldn’t handle the fact that she lost someone else after Jane died. There were too many “what if’s” and “it could’ve been me” during the time she pushed her friends away once again.

Andy couldn’t stand the fact that his girlfriend would reconsider dying and taking the traitor’s place just to save all of them. The argument was set between them, with Andy pointing out that the latter would be breaking his heart and everyone else’s by leaving them behind while Vivian retorted that none of them understood what’s it like to see someone choosing to die right in front of them. It was until then that Andy had to remind himself that Vivian is still suffering from the trauma. They all are. And what she really needed was a shoulder to lean on, not any more fighting. They dealt with too much of that already in the past.

They both managed to talk things out again before sitting down on the floor against the side of Andy’s bed from exhaustion. Vivian gently rested her head against his shoulder before finally speaking out again.

“I’m sorry.”

“Me too, Vi,” Andy replied softly before giving her a gentle kiss on her forehead, “Don’t worry. We’ll get through this. I’m not going to give up on you, no matter what.”

Because he’ll be damned if he did, especially on the person who is actually his sanctuary.

In the World of a Distorted Island

The full moon had shown brightly at the bay area of the Colonnade Cove, and despite being in the island of hell, everything seems to be peaceful. But everyone knew that this peace won’t last forever. Jake learned that the hard way. Losing a best friend (who turned out to be alive and in a robotic state) and being on the run had taught him that it wasn’t easy to trust anyone anymore, and he wouldn’t let anyone else in just to avoid getting hurt again.

That all changed when he first met her back at the cockpit. Despite being attracted to her appearance, the pilot considered Yurika as one of those annoying college kids who only came to enjoy the trip. But deep down, she has the intelligence, determination, and compassion to those around her like any true leader would have. And it was thanks to her that everyone is still alive, fighting their way out on this cursed island.

But there’s something off about Yurika, lately. It was as if she’s becoming more secretive during their times on the island and is close to breaking. Jake even notice the way she was shivering and murmuring a lot in her sleep, indicating that she’s been having a lot of nightmares lately. What it was all about was still a mystery to him. All he knows was that they were still bothering her. Noticing the way her face started twitching in her sleep, he gently shook her awake, causing her to open her dark green eyes.

“You okay, Princess?” Jake asked her.

“I am now,” Yurika replied. The pilot could’ve sworn he saw relief in her eyes before giving him an apologetic look on her face, “Sorry. Did I wake you?”

“Naw. Stilling tryin’ to get some sleep myself,” Jake then looked at her in concern, “You wanna talk about what’s bothering you?”

Yurika opened her mouth to respond, but couldn’t. Seeing some kind of fear in her eyes, Jake didn’t push it. Instead, he held her close to his chest and gently ran his fingers through her long hair. “Hey, it’s okay if you don’t want to tell me now. I’m right here if you still need someone to talk to. Just try to get some sleep. We still need to look for the others.”

Yurika nodded in agreement and snuggle against the pilot before slowly falling asleep once again. The former couldn’t help but smile at the sleeping form of the woman he loved.

It’s been a long time since Jake had ever let anyone get close to him, and he was glad it was her. She was the one who convinced him that it’s okay to let those walls down once in a while, knowing that she would always be there to comfort him. It was only then until Jake realized how much she really means to him. He nearly lost Yurika once, when she fell out of the helicopter and into the ocean. But then he, along with Estela, found her again during the volcanic eruption nearly losing consciousness due to the atmosphere. By that time, he swore he would never lose her again.

He never wanted to admit this, but in a way, she was his sanctuary.
