literally cannot stop thinking about this page btw. 'he didn't intend to hide it from you forever but it was too much to share with you at such a young age' but why didn't Shiba himself tell Chihiro sooner? he's old enough now to learn how to fight and to kill and to hunt down the stolen blades, but not to know the truth about what those weapons were used for?? once again we have this weird contradiction between Shiba wanting to protect Chihiro and his memory of his father and Kunishige's legacy while simultaneously allowing & enabling him to pursue this violent, dangerous quest for vengeance. this information about the Malediction & the enchanted blades could have even been helpful to that mission from the start but revealing it would have meant shining a light on a side of Kunishige that hurts Chihiro to see—not because he blames him, but because he knows he lived with the weight of the same guilt Chihiro himself is amassing and repeatedly resigning himself to hell for. at this point Chihiro has both seen & experienced what living with that guilt can do to a person, and while Shiba softens the blow by telling him truthfully how much his very existence helped Kunishige, I can't imagine this doesn't just. haunt a person. and I keep thinking about how many times we've seen people express relief that Kunishige wasn't alone all that time bc they probably knew how it would have eaten away at him without a reason to hope, a reason to try. a guiding light. rolling myself into the sea.

Do I think language models will replace computer programmers? I think that even the most cutting edge models (looking at you O1) still lack the capacity for longitudinal planning and systems design, meaning that they are far below competence to automate away even a fairly low skill level human programmer.

However the way things are going is that all this means is that I'll be very surprised for a week when in three years OpenAI drops some sort of proto-AGI that bests all of us.

I would be more scared of this prospect, if the implications of that scenario weren't so far reaching that it's a category error to even start worrying about consequences before knowing specifics

(Also I find programmers generally tend to be more "shrug and bear it" about automation threat, because even when it's our own jobs on the line, it's kinda hard to be a professional automator who is ideologically opposed to automation).

theres something to be said about how much roses appear in this game as a symbolism for hope that i really love. there's this obviously, which i believe is the same rose that leliana says rekindled her sense of purpose, and there's even a story anora tells about loghain i saw from @v-arbellanaris where (paraphrasing since i cant find it so i might be off base) he spent weeks desperately tending a dying rose to fix it. idk it just feels very poignant to me in a game literally about a phenomenon that is an aberration against nature that nature will always find a way to thrive regardless.
