my Thoughts about mcc14, because this is my blog and the official year of no cringe (in that i will no longer regard my interests as cringe and enjoy them wholeheartedly and post about them if i want)

overall !! it was a really fun event, i was watching blue bats punz pov and they popped off so it was a really good watch for me, the updates to the games were sick as hell and i cannot wait to see these get more refined as we go along plus see what they have in store for bingo and sands of time

putting everything else below the cut for the sake of all the mutuals i have on here that have never interacted with a mcyt in their life! 

so. will preface this by saying i’ve watched every mcc live starting with mcc9 and am . just very very into this tournament, i’ll probably do a little analysis post next mcc because i just find it all very fun !! and tumblr is like a void i can scream into and sometimes it screams back so it’s the perfect place to let myself ramble. that being said, here’s my thoughts on this mcc from the blue bats punz pov, with vague knowledge of what happened in a few other povs

build mart: so sue me, i’m a build mart fan. the new map build is INCREDIBLE and i love the choice of elytras rather than the scuffed boats!! the new addition of the golden build is really fun too! not something that could necessarily be changed but build mart is definitely a killer for teams that don’t have good comms and coordination, and having it as a first game can really shake some teams and cause a drop in morale that could affect the rest of their performance in the event. overall, though? im loyal to build mart and i think it only got better with the updates

tgttosawaf: i love how pedantically long that acronym is <3 i think some of the changes really threw players into the deep end, that one round where they had to break the wool in the targets to get through especially, and terra swoop force Definitely threw some players that are otherwise cracked for a loop, especially if they were unfamiliar with the map, but this one was also super fun to watch!! definitely a good game for the first half of the event

sky battle: at long last, sky battle returns <3 as a shameless inniter sky battle is one of my favourite games simply because i Know tommy will always pop off, but it’s also such a fun twist on classic minigames like sky wars and a faster version of skyblockle done super well! i like the new map layout a ton as well, the little towers in the middle ring plus the structure of the innermost ring made for some really interesting plays all around. this game’s another one that can go south really fast if your team comms aren’t great, but definitely more forgiving than build battle, and a hell of a lot more adrenaline-inducing!! in terms of the updates i think this one was probably one of the best, tied with build mart.

survival games: survival games was CRAZY i do think this is one where you need to get good rng with your loot pickups as well as have good team coordination but it’s definitely a really fun pvp game!! only thing i will say is it can be a bit bland next to the rest of the crazy games in mcc but it’s definitely a classic and depending on how its played (cough red rabbits cough) can definitely turn things wayyyy around for a team!! very high stakes in a fun way

hole in the wall: god :sob: the glitch. ohhhh hbomb you and your glitchy ways. this glitch was definitely a new one compared to the usual “spam-space-bar-and-pray” glitch that our dearest tommyinnit has taken advantage of before, but i honestly can’t really blame him too much for using it? it did give aqua an advantage but it’s only slightly different from falsesymmetry using the spam-space glitch to win a few rounds of hitw in a more recent mcc (would have to double check which one, but i do remember hbomb taking note of this when he was reviewing mcc vods the day after). hole in the wall has been a glitchy bastard for as long as it’s been in mcc and it was truly hilarious to see hbomb clip through walls, so - all in all i think if the glitch could be fixed that’d be great but it was still a fun watch! also, pete zahutt is CRACKED.

ace race: whoo boy. ace race. honest opinion? i think the map is REALLY cool and has a lot of potential, but there was a lot of confusion and bugs that need to be fixed for next time - the fact that the players could reset back to a previous checkpoint, the general confusion over where to go which cld mean they need to add more directional arrows. overall i’m really really excited to see how people will perform on this map when they’re more familiar with it and some of the kinks have been worked out on the developer end. i do think scott had a Huge advantage here and it was really prominent due to the fact that this was a new map for everyone aside from him, albeit him seeing a much earlier version that wasn’t the same as the version that existed in the event, and it would definitely be wise of noxcrew and the developing team in the future to be more aware of how much involvement scott has in the gameplay side of testing. the general confusion and checkpoint resetting also did Not help anyone and i do think a few teams really lost out this event because of the issues with ace race, but this map has a ton of potential and im really excited to see what they do with it in the future.

battle box: oooo battle box !! this one didn’t really leave too big of an impression on me but the new map was definitely interesting!! the fact that the way to get to the middle was a bit unclear was ,, definitely interesting to watch :sob: but you can’t go wrong with battle box to be honest. solid team pvp game!

parkour tag: PARKOUR TAG!!! having this as the final game was so fun :] the map they had this time was complicated which definitely comes with its pros and cons: pros being that it creates potential for a lot of really interesting routes and unique usage of the area and environment, and cons being that it can feel really cluttered and overwhelming especially when its your first time playing. overall i liked the fact that it was busier but i think striking a better balance between full and barren could really elevate parkour tag from a good game to a great game

dodgebolt: blue bats </3 they had a fantastic run in the games and had an awful dodgebolt and sometimes that’s how it shakes down !! i always always love the unpredictability to the final winner that dodgebolt gives - the first place team pointswise isnt guaranteed a win, reverse sweeps have happened multiple times in the past, and dodgebolt is always nail-bitingly exciting to watch!

misc thoughts: i do think aqua had an advantage but from the sounds of things scott and noxcrew will be taking genuine criticism into account for next time and have learned from this event, i DONT think that removing parkour warrior was unfair because it wasn’t an event that noxcrew could ever successfully balance by making it hard enough to not have the same guy dominating every event and creating a gap, especially when played later, that no other players had HOPE of reducing and i think parkour tag was a really really fun alternative to it especially since runner and hunter play to diff strengths of the team members and it has a bit more strategy to it plus team comms than parkour warrior did, and i think build mart is a good game and i WILL die on this hill

random half-asleep 5AM rambling about how i got to love my riddler kinda. im sure i’ve done this before but it’s just on my mind

i talk about how much i like him, and i’m honest about how it’s more his humanity that appeals to me (even though i find his villainy incredibly fun on its own), but i also feel like i only talk about how it’s his Riddler’s Revenge deal that makes that the case. and that is a huge goddamn part of it; showing who Edward was and his hopes for the future, seeing how he was backstabbed and crushed, being able to see his wanting to die at least once but up to three times through the episode depending on how deeply you look at some implications--

but it’s in Riddled, his debut episode, that got me really hooked. and it was more of a fandom-related accident than anything 

i liked the series, growing up with it, and i was getting back into enjoying it again after my younger teenage self ended up disliking it for a while b/c i was easily influenced at the time and btas fans said it was Awful, and he in particular was awful, and it left me p pissy (esp. with again riddler in particular b/c there was tons of transphobic and homophobic shit surrounding him there)

and i glanced around what little of fandom there was, and i found an RP account for him. (don’t go lookin for it. i’m sure u can find it but it’d be rude to dig from my criticism, rp is for fun and even if i’m salty it doesn’t mean that’s necessary)

and there was a part, specifically, in that riddler’s RP. a thread involving a bridge and some bombs. 

specifically he blew up a bridge. he was playing with a hero and the hero’d evacuated everyone but riddler hadn’t known that until after. there’d been people on it. he was Legitimately risking the lives of hundreds of people who had no idea

and he set bombs on a bridge, and in a bunch of other places, in the show, in that debut episode

“If you don’t get far away from here tout suite, I will blow Gotham Bay Bridge by remote, and everyone on it~”

and it’s tense as fuck and all that

but the bombs are fake

the entire thing is an amazing bluff and wild goose chase (or somethin like that i’m tired) and like. 

i’m not sayin he din’t unnecessarily risk lives. i mean he fucking drove yin off a bridge like 30 seconds after this and did some torturing of her later just to keep batman in the game. he terrified the entire goddamn city with his threats 

but still. call the explosive thing censorship if you want but that’s still what happened and the foundation of the entire episode

he risks the lives of people playing his games but only the people playing his games. the fact that someone just. discarded that completely even though it’s a p big thing to overlook pissed me off a lot. that’s barely a ~humanity~ thing tbh it’s just a Character Thing

and that got me even more strongly invested. b/c he was Wrong. b/c all kinds of characterizations that i found around in the scraps of fic out there at that point made him goddamn...evil, basically, in the most boring way possible, or just plain constantly-stoic-and-dangerous and he is the last goddamn thing from stoic even when he’s in control and being a “good guy” so i got to angrily writing him myself

this was five years ago now. not too long but also half a decade and i did a lot of growing in that meantime so it feels like a ton more. esp. since writing him got me so many lovely friends, directly and indirectly

i’m going off the rails a bit here. the love is real but a big part is and always will be based on sheer

yeah of course they still worked hard and delivered some amazing performances skdjkasd, but also despite different instrumentals and stuff, it’s still all performances we’ve seen many times before except for the short intros skdjakd but yeah i agree

ah sorry i didn’t get the first part? but i get what you’re saying because i’ve shared the same sentiment and talked about it a lot when the album came out. honestly i feel like they kinda reached the point you’re talking about with that album, external producers, less involvement from members, less substance lyrics wise. and honestly.. i wouldn’t hold my breath for any improvement? because yoongi said himself in the billboard interview, that they definitely do not want to ruffle any feathers with their -social criticism- that they want to bring people together instead, so with that we’ll just get very vague things and messages like -love yoursef- from now on, and considering the more personal lyrics had been hidden and kind of treated as just something for fans and not the real album material as well, like that just confirms it for me? so i just hope the songs will be bops, i hope bighit will stop media playing and exaggerating so i don’t have to feel all jaded, and i will just look forward to their mixtapes, solo work, hidden tracks where they will be able to express themselves more.. cause from how bighit had been acting and what has been said, i doubt we’ll go back to how things used to be anymore? but i’m also a huge pessimist sorry dakjsd i would love to be wrong

fucking sexist gamer guys can die. i’ve dealt with first-hand sexist comments for years and years being involved in a semi-casual gaming community and im fucking sick of it. i can’t even imagine how it feels for professionals.

like overwatch in particular fucking pisses me off because SO MANY girls play it and are AMAZING at it and i am actually a pretty okay support!!! but that doesn’t matter!! thats why i never fucking talk in voice chat! because the moment i say something ill get a shit ton of “ironic” comments about being a girl, but with how often it happens, i know that most of them are calling it ironic just so if i get pissed off i can be blamed. like. it can be funny sometimes but... it happens so fucking often. i talk and everyone goes silent for a bit and then awkwardly make “IRONIC” jokes about how girls cant play video games. yeah. i fucking get it. my tits are too huge to use the keyboard correctly. yeah. whatever. and if i even try to not be critical of it and make jokes back, i instantly get shut down. the only time i ever feel comfortable using voice chat in games is when my gamer guy friends are in a party with me so that if someone goes too far they can tell them to fuck off without getting reported. and even then they rarely defend me because they don’t notice usually. but i hear it so fucking often that i so easily pick up on it.

SKINCARE ROUTINE

Hey Guys! Eeeeek! My First Blog post.. All About My Skin Care Routine!

Not that my skin is ‘Amazing’ or that im a fully qualified dermatologist BUT i did learn Alot about how to look after our skin and keep it healthy, clean and how to avoid wrinkles!  A-little bit of my Skin History I have had OILY/COMBINATION skin my whole life up until around a year or so ago where i noticed my skin had become alot more dry and dehydrated! I started drinking heaps of water and i saw results and improvement within 2 days! Honestly it sounds like such a small step but water is a HUGE contribution to your skin health! I now continue to drink a ton of water but my skin is still a little dry in certain areas and i would say its morning NORMAL/COMBINATION skin now! Although my skin does still get oily in my t-zone i flood my face with rich moisturisers to keep my skin feeling incredibly soft and also to look dewy/ to get that ‘heathy glow’ I’m Exactly like most 16-25 year olds who get regular breakouts/blackheads - This has so much to do with our Hormones! I’ve been on the pill since the age of 14-15 (A Long Time!!) so this could effect my skin without me even knowing!!  I always get Period Pimples! always the week before or just a couple of days before im due i will get ATLEAST 1-2 Pimples (That drive me bonkers!!!) This is Totally Normal!! they’re something you cannot fight or stop, You're best of to leave them alone and they will be gone in only a few days! There are pimple creams/gels you can buy (Mario Badescu drying lotion - Mario Badescu anti-acne serum etc..) That can take away the redness & decrease the pimple size within a few days - BUT leaving them alone is the best way (as hard as it is sometimes) I used to so obsessive over my pimples and would hate them because they were gross or ugly but trust me when i say NO ONE CARES about some little dots on your face! its normal & its natural!?

Toning is a vital part of the cleansing process! anyway i think there is a viewership dissociation i’m seeing re: sense8’s cancellation in how some are celebrating while others are mourning

sense8 had a lot of problems. this was a popular and critically well-received show produced by two trans women, but the wachowskis have a history of racism that permeated the show and their status as trans women doesn’t erase that. fans who uphold it as peak representation needed to understand that. it had issues from the very first episode with will’s introduction (literally the first scenes we see of him) as a white savior, the fact that four out of the main eight characters are white (and all the ones involved in the main plot), the main black character is living in poverty in africa caring for his mother sick of aids, how the mexican gay male main character was overdramatic and occasionally flamboyant, the east asian girl is a silent lone wolf martial artist who mostly shows up to save the day, the south asian girl is struggling with an arranged marriage and doesn’t have an arc outside of her love triangle with her husband and a white guy she barely knows. and like, i say this genuinely loving all of these characters, acknowledging they have much more depth than i’m making them out to be for the sake of this post: these stereotypes are problems. even tho the crux of the show (as i personally read it) is based around how people who embody stereotypes do still have lives and families and feelings and depth, they are still stereotypes, and gender/sexuality/racial diversity should also include diversity amongst different kind of non-white and non-cishet livelihoods.

so i’ve been seeing a relevant discussion about moral purity in media since the sense8 announcement. every show will make mistakes and if we only keep morally pure shows on air, obviously we’d be left with very little. i’ve always felt that most tv mistakes will be disappointing and should be subject to criticism, but there are usually signs among viewers when some mistakes are quote-unquote unforgivable and can’t be fixed with an apology or retconning (an example of a universally acknowledged -- in left spaces at least -- unforgivable mistake is sleepy hollow killing off abby mills and claiming it’s because she was expendable while ichabod, her white male costar, was integral to whatever future plot they were going to squeeze out of their rear end).

a lot of this urge to look over mistakes vs decide something is unforgivable has to do with how much a person is invested in the show in the first place; i was heavily invested in sense8 so i was really let down when it was cancelled. for some people, game of thrones ended for them when they had jaime r*pe cersei or ramsay r*pe sansa for shock value; i know for me, that show has offended me enough with how it treats its women that i won’t be sad to see it go. and i’m sure some people were sad when sleepy hollow ended, but i stopped watching it years ago and didn’t react to its cancellation; i thought “good, maybe they’ll learn their lesson and won’t shaft their female black protagonists in the future.” (though i know rationally that’s not the takeaway they’ll have, because i’ve seen too many examples of shows gone wrong to expect producers to make that logical jump.)

so i understand that for some people, sense8’s mistakes were offensive enough that they didn’t feel we were losing anything worthwhile when it was over. and again, i’m not going to argue with people hurt by sense8’s portrayals of its nonwhite characters. i will say that for me, sense8 frustrated and occasionally embarrassed me, but its worst mistakes in its representation of marginalized people were never egregious enough to inspire me to quit watching, like got or sh. other people have lower tolerances for bullshit, and draw the line for their media rep closer to that idealized representation perfection and decide anything that toes across that line isn’t worth their time. it’s also just as possible some of them just genuinely weren't interested in sense8’s plot, or got bored during the slow-paced first half of season one, and they heard about the issues and decided this wasn’t a huge loss to them. (but anyway this is not an argument that everyone should’ve liked sense8 despite its flaws. it was a weird show and it wasn’t for everyone.) there are tons of reasons why people who want diversity might feel lukewarm on sense8, or not even hugely bothered by it ending.

at the same time, i can’t understand fully wrap my head around people being happy about it being cancelled with no reservations. i know logically that its cancellation won’t bring change to future diverse shows. future producers and writers aren’t going to look at sense8 and say “people were unhappy about sense8 because of its portrayal of racial or gender issues, and we need to do better.” future producers are going to say “this diverse scifi show was a huge risk and it didn’t pay off so we’d better stick to the same formula, i guess.” like, that’s my fear. i want to be clear i am not arguing that people swallow down racism or sexism or transphobia or ableism in their television just because its cast is racially diverse; but i am worried that boycotting or treating every mistake equal to another will be received the wrong way by producers who have the money to decide what stories to tell next. like, people absolutely have the right to refuse to watch a show if it sets off their alarms. i ignore several shows people hail as diverse bc sometimes a show just doesn’t do anything for me (eg brooklyn 99), and even tho i’m rooting for it i’m not gonna bend over backwards to make enjoy like it when i just don’t. however if brooklyn 99, a diverse show which i feel nothing for and im sure may have its own issues, got cancelled, i don’t think i’d be celebrating; i’d be worried what future producers are reading from its failure, and that they’ll draw the wrong conclusion that diversity itself was the issue. inviting diversity means people on both sides of the aisle will complain about either the specifics of its portrayal or the diversity itself, and i’m worried they will decide they won’t want to make the risk at all.

hmm small (edit: really lengthy) rant about my life rn

I just had a week off school and it was a much needed break... I did volunteer for 3/5 of the days so it wasn’t a crazy break, since I still had quite a bit of stress about those 3 days

I am currently in that typical position of “I didn’t do anything productive pertaining to school work all week so now I feel guilty and I should stay up and get something done” but at the same time... I feel like I always beat myself up so much when I know that I was quite busy with other things, and school work isn’t always the only priority. Granted, I did watch a kdrama lol and didn’t sleep until 2-4 am on most days, while waking up close to noon.... but I feel like I needed that. I just hate how i can never fully relax but I also can’t bring myself to work... but that is the ultimate student dilemma. I wish I had better self-control and organizational skills to balance everything

On a related note, I’ve been thinking rly hard about what I want to do after I graduate from uni... I was thinking about applying to a summer internship for half of the summer, but I need a reference letter and the deadline is this week, so I feel like its sort of inappropriate to ask any of my profs at this point... I also was thinking about just bumming around for the entire summer and being productive in other areas of my life ... like I’ve been thinkin about starting a youtube channel (lol me and everyone else in this internet world) bc I’ve just been so inspired by all these amazing ppl who show their struggles to everyone and at the end of the day they’re all beautiful ppl... I really like the idea of sharing my life w all these internet friends bc frankly, I don’t really share my life with anyone irl (i know that sounds super sad but it’s true... i dont feel like im close w anyone anymore and once i graduate from uni i feel like i’m gonna be cut off from everyone I currently talk to and I feel like no one would rly make the effort to talk to me otherwise)

so idk i kinda wanted to start a vlog/lifestyle channel so I could just chat to the camera, since i rly do have a lot of thoughts i’d like to share, but i’m just too scared to share them with anyone i actually know irl. it feels easier to just talk it out to no one in particular like a diary, but then have ppl (hopefully) care about it. but at the same time there are TONS of lifestyle channels out there and i dont think i have a particular “tv personality”? 

also filming those kinda videos have nothing to do w my university degree and idk i feel like.... it’s important to be well-rounded but i don’t want my degree to be for nothing, so i also have to think about what i want to do as my future career. which is really tough because... i’m in the sciences, i currently do clinical research in a lab, and it’s okay... i love the learning aspect but i’m not a fan of the actual scientific research process. i can’t really explain why but you’re just... studying something so small for so so so long and it’s hard to feel like you’re making any progress. but i suppose the beauty of the field is if/when you actually make progress and a contribution. i’m also scared about the whole competition in the field and constantly keeping yourself afloat with grants, idk if i want to dedicate my life to that. and to be honest i dont think im smart enough or that much of a critical thinker to become a researcher and get a phd, although i would really love to be a university professor (too bad u have to have a phd loool)

some other options are going to med school, optometry school, becoming a dietician or a physician’s assistant... med school is the scary one bc i always think about.... why would i want to be a doctor over another medical professional? do i actually have the qualities to be a good doctor, or am i just doing it bc of the image or the pressure? do i actually enjoy working with patients?? ofc those questions apply to the other options as well but... im always doubting myself and i feel like that quality alone is not very ideal for being a doctor. i would feel more comfortable being an optometrist, dietician, or physician’s assistant bc it feels like... even if you mess up there are still other people to back you up, whereas with a doctor, you are the one running the game. which is super important and impressive, but i just don’t know if i could handle with the stress and if i have the capabilities to make unwavering decisions. just cuz i know im so indecisive.... man. i got rejected from med school which is why im rethinking all of this. i might go to grad school next year, either in nutrition or continuing in physiology. i really like topics in nutrition and a masters in nutrition is only a year long, but i would have to find a new supervisor and im not a super huge fan of research (like i’ve said before)... but it seems better than a 2 year masters in physiology. i could stick with my current physiology supervisor, but that also means im stuck studying the same thing as i am now for 2 years. and idk if i love it that much.... agh... i dont know......... i wish someone could tell me what’s the best path... but i know no one can... and i know that no one is gonna read this huuuuuge text.... im just rambling at this point bc i have no one i feel comfortable personally messaging all of this to

being indecisive.... leads me to my next point. which is strange, but i really want to get a tattoo after i graduate. ive been thinking about what to get, and ofc, due to my indecisive nature, i can never really decide, but i think... i kinda know what i want? i just need to think of a good placement for it bc i dont want it to be visible in my every day life, just due to the judgemental nature of the field that im in right now and possibly will be in the future (eg. if i work in the medical field, i will most definitely be judged if i have visible tattoos, maybe less by the younger demographic but by the older ones for sure, and that can affect the whole patient-doctor interaction, or even interaction with mentors?) so if u have any tattoos, i’d love to know what you have (if you’re comfortable w sharing) and why, so it helps me justify getting my own lol (even though that doesnt rly make sense.. i should just get it if i want it, but im still debating)

guhhhh my brain has run out of juice and i should go to bed, im really trying to not sleep at 2 am today. i wish i could fall asleep faster. im not gonna give myself heck for not getting anything done during reading week, or tonight, cuz i know i’ve been going through some rough mental patches, but i hope if i sleep earlier, wake up a bit earlier, take back more control of my life, i can be more productive and less stressed. pls wish me luck.
