WHAT ! - where a summer vacation turns to meeting the love of your life for this lovely anon ^3^ (warnings: petnames, kisses)

wc : 2391 | @onedoornet, for the odn summer with you :-)

"is your room clean riwoo?" sungho asked in a panicked tone as the younger boy rolled his eyes while nodding, "its not like they'll come to my room...

right?"

sungho shook his head and sighed "i just want everything to be perfect for them, it's their first time back in seoul and i just want them to be able to relax without any disruptions or worries"

he then groaned hearing leehan complain about being on bathroom duty for the 84th time that day, just then the bell rang shooting sungho to his feet. he ran to the bathroom and closed the door so you couldn't see, or hear leehan complain while cleaning the bathroom. riwoo opened the door for you only to be shoved away

"MY BABY" he cooed out to you before wrapping his arms around you making you laugh as you returned the hug "hi sungie" you mumbled against the hug. in the corner of your eye you saw riwoo rolling his eyes at sungho and leehan peeping out from the corner, you wave and say your hello's and they said there's and quickly welcomed you to their dorm. sungho brought you over to the couch to rest as riwoo put away your bags and leehan got you a glass of water (after he washed his hands...)

as leehan comes back with your water, riwoo comes back just in time for you 4 to sit on the couch altogether. as you all start talking they listen to you talk about your home country and a bit about yourself since sungho already told them everything. and you listened to them complain about how bossy sungho was today

"im so glad youre here yn, i don't know how many more orders i could take, he was treating me like some dog" leehan complained only to get his head pushed slightly by sungho "you guys are being dramatic" he defended himself "i don't know, i believe them," you said getting a slightly sulky sungho in return.

"yn if you dont mind me asking, how did you and sungho meet?" riwoo spoke up to which leehan added his 2 cents to the question "yeah, how did you two meet? sungho never told us" all 3 of you guys look up at sungho who was beet red. he looked over to you and his face read "please don't tell them"

so what did you do?

you told them

"it was summer last year, around june, so a month after you guys debuted, i was walking through the streets trying to find a good coffee place and a beauty store,.."

you remembered it like the back of your hand, it was freshly summer and you had landed in Korea a day ago. the next morning you had woken up to severe jet lag as well as a realization that you had completely forgotten to pack your skincare. so the disappointment, as well as the tiredness combined, create a very cranky but desperate person trying to find a coffee shop that doesn't just sell americanos and a beauty store that isn't too expensive. unluckily for you, when you got on the subway looking for a person to help they all declined. maybe you looked how you felt (crusty) or maybe it was just that they were busy, you like to believe the second option. anyways, everyone seemed to have failed you until you noticed a man sitting in the back with his headphones in looking at you. you held onto the rail staring at him

you like to believe it was love at first sight on his behalf, and spoiler it was.

you decided you had nothing else to lose and walked up to him trying not to fall as the subway moved.

"excuse me?" you asked

he looked up and shocked as if he wasn't just staring at you

he was making it very awkward right now...

"uhm, do you know a coffee spot and a store that sells skincare? I'm traveling and really need the stuff" you briefly explain your situation as he stares at you

that was the first thing he noticed about you, how completely gorgeous you were. even if you didn't tell him about your situation moments later, he wouldn't even have noticed

oh gosh, was there something on your face?

you knew better than to not double-check before leaving, you probably have dry skin flakes all over your face.

"youre very pretty" he blurted out

"huh?"

"huh"

you both said at the same exact time, you had a reason to be confused but he had said it

"uhm i meant yes i do!" he smiled widely with his teeth trying to downplay the awkward interaction, it clearly didn't work as you slowly backed away from him

"no!" he quietly shouted as he saw you walk away. he cleared his through once he looked around and saw everyone staring at him

"i'm not busy today, i can go with you to the places, and i can show you around

if you want..."

you stare at him for a second as all the red flags started to go off

"i'm not weird i promise, just...very awkward"

well he seemed convincing enough

you sat down next to him and it was silence again before he spoke up

"so, why are you visiting?" the man asked as he turned over to look at you. "just traveling, my friends recommended that i come here, so i thought 'why not?' i mean i only once right? but korea wasn't my first choice, i wanted to try and go to singapore or thailand, maybe vietnam, vietnam would've been nice huh? but my friends were more familiar with Korea, which is ironic to how i was just begging people for help right? i mean its like midnight over where they are, so i guess fair enough."

that was the second thing he noticed about you, how talkative you were, to which he was not complaining. the second he heard your voice he wanted to replay it each second he could. he listened to each word you said with detail and understanding as if he was the one traveling.

"oh sorry im yn"

"sungho" he smiled at you

"oh, how long are you staying?"

"about 4 days, well 3 after today"

he nodded and continued to ask you questions to hear your long lengthy replies.

as you two stepped off the subway he lead the way. you decided you wanted to get drinks first which he was totally okay with. even if he just met you today, anywhere you go, he goes.

you two made it to the cafe and surprisingly you weren't greeted the smell of only coffee like your friends had said. you could hear blenders of fruit smoothies to bottles shaking of mixing juices. as you took a look at the menu he stood by you admiring your side profile

"have you been here before?" you asked turning over to him to which he quickly moved his head back to look away

"yeah, this is one of my most favorite spots"

he lied :/, he never been to the place, he just wanted to go on the longest subway ride with you and panicked when he realized he had no idea what was in this area, he just kept walking as you followed until he found a spot. you both ordered and he paid despite your protest.

he sat there as you talked listening while looking at the receipt and at your order "you don't like coffee?" sungho asked as he turned to look at you shaking your head "this is what i normally get at my local cafe either way" he nodded at the information making sure to keep it memorized.

"do you like coffee?" you asked sungho this time

"no, no coffee is for losers" he laughed trying to impress you, and he clearly failed

staring at him as your head tilted he sighed

"yeah, i like coffee"

laughing at him, he turns to you and laughs too. he couldn't help it, your life was too infective. anything about you was infective actually

he realized in that short one and half hours that he knew you he was already picking up on your habits

"sungho?" the barista called out, you and sungho quickly got up to collect your drinks. when you both sipped your drinks at the same time he focused on your reaction. noticing his gaze you pretend to like it even though the drink was horrible. so he did the same, his drink was just as, maybe even worse. but he did a faked satisfied "mmh" as he sipped

hating the taste in your mouth you furrow your brows "wow, you have...different taste"

"can i tell you something?" he said swallowing his drink

looking up at him you nodded

"i dont know where this place is...nor have i ever drunk from here

i just wanted to spend time with you" sungho admitted stirring the poorly made overpriced drink

he expected you to be mad or something when he heard no response. he looked up at you to see you processing the information being told to you

"well i guess today will be an adventure for both of us?"

sungho smiled liking your energy.

today he either found a very very good friend or the love of his life

you both tried to follow the google maps leading to the beauty store but with the bad data, you two realized after 30 minutes that the map was leading you guys in circles. deciding to get back onto the subway to seoul, the city where he was familiar with so he can actually take you to a beauty store.

the subway was empty besides sungho and you sitting by each other in a random seat chatting away. sungho knew he was probably oversharing with a person that he met just today but it was something about you that drew him into to place that he had never felt familiar with

comfort, and sure maybe he used to preach about love at first sight being dumb and a stupid concept but, he understood it now. and the proof was sitting right in front of him

as you two got to the beauty store you started to get the products you needed since your day started but hours later. sungho memorized each product you had gotten in case you ever told him you needed or lost the product. you fought him off at the checkout managing to pay this time, but he swore to himself that hopefully if you guys keep in touch, you'll never have to pay for anything again unless he's there.

the day started to get dim and sungho agreed (begged) to drop you off. the sunset watched you and sungho as you both were walking. time seemed to move too quickly, that or either you and him were very fast walkers. he dropped you off at the front of your hotel, before you got too far he grabbed your wrist causing you to turn around "do you think i can call you tonight?"

"thats such a corny way to ask for someone's number" you joke looking at him before handing your phone to him. when you finally exchange numbers that's when he watches you leave and stay until he sees you go into the elevator, sungho continued to walk to the dorms with a big smile on his face as he replayed his day, your voice, your jokes, your face, just you. something about you amused him, whether it was your personality, jokes, or anything about you seemed to have him wrapped around your finger

as soon as he gets back to the dorms his face is painted with a big frown, his cheeks hurt too much from smiling and laughing today that he thought he couldn't anymore.

"did your face get ranover?" riwoo asked as he looked up from his dinner to see sungho frowning

sungho slightly laughed before jumping onto his bed and changing your contact name to put a bunch of hearts.

out of impulse sungho texted you

"can i call you tonight?" and threw his phone like a middle schooler who had just fallen in love

you replied with a 'sure :)' and he had never freshened up quicker. before pressing the 'call' button he fixed his hair and sighed

after a long 4 rings, you answer

and thats how it started

it had become a routine, no matter how tired you both were and despite the time difference you managed to call each night. whether it ended in sleep or laughter, trust, you both were hearing it.

even though his schedule was busy he had made time for you. if it was 4 am in Korea and the middle of the day wherever you were he still answered, whether it was to comfort you, hear you rant, or watch you open up his groups album to which he manifested with you that you would get his photo cards

and it wasnt too long until sungho had asked you out over the phone

when you picked up the facetime call he had his lights on disco mode making the colors change, a pair of orange sunglasses on, and a poster that said "let me be your boyfriend?"

of course you said yes making you see riwoo and leehan jump into frame cheering for their friend with party poppers and kazoos.

"and thats how i met your dad" you smiled

leehan gagged "he's NOT our dad"

"i wish i was older than you" riwoo sighed

"sungho youre such a loser"

"yn i wouldve left him the second he took me to a city he knew nothing about"

laughing at their reaction you hear sungho groan before he shows you his room in person. he laid on his bed and patted the spot next to him for you to lay down too, as you rested he turned over to you

he kissed your cheek and smiled

"i dont have to call you tonight"

he sat up when he saw something attached to your bag

"is that my photocard?"

"HI YN" sungho and you jump at the door bursting open to reveal jaheyun, taesan, and woonhak

this was gonna be a long trip

im trying to explain foop's alt personality to a friend, do you have any posts explaining the existence of the guy bc i could swear you do but cant find them.

I love him!! He's named Hiccup in my fanfics and tagged on my blog as #alternate bat prince. He'll also get a full character profile on my sideblog, but he has a short bio for now.

I love the alt personality so much because it really drives home how much Foop broke during his time in Abracatraz... which gets more horrifying once you remember time was frozen and he was probably in there for a good 30 to 40 years, separated from his parents or friends his age, unable to grow up.

One of the overarching themes in FOP is how poorly the Fairies treat others while acting like they're superior and kind, and Foop is one of the best characters to show how Fairies fawn over kids of their own race vs. how Anti-Fairy babies are regarded with suspicion. The Fairies threw a 1-day-old in maximum security prison and left him there. And that REALLY put Foop through the wringer.

From his second episode of existence, you can tell he's changed since his debut episode, and that he's confused by what's happening to him. He blinks in alarm when he switches early on and speaks about himself in a different way than he does both before and after that moment (Ex: Refers to himself as "we" at one point). You can tell he's in a weird adjustment period, and seems to have adjusted to life with his alt personality much more in later episodes.

And this alt personality doesn't go away. He debuted in Season 7, returns in Season 8, and then cameos several times in Seasons 9 and 10 (indicated by certain hand gestures, voice shifts, and extra eye highlights when he switches)

"Man's Worst Friend" (S10) is a really good example, especially the scene where Anti-Sparky says he'd like to have Foop for dinner and you immediately get the chubby cheeks, clasped hands, and gushing about how nice of an event that would be.

He's a very deliberate, long-term addition to the show and I love that about him so much. I'm so glad he wasn't a one-episode joke. No....... no. Foop has a lot of trauma and it never goes away, even when it's not the episode's focus.

It's so cool that you can still see these subtle signs of his alt personality even when the episode doesn't make it part of the plot. Such a nice way to see the long-term effects of his childhood trauma while also being super clear that Foop is a well-rounded, well-written person who is still growing up and living his life.

I love that this didn't become Foop's entire characterization, nor was he portrayed as "a polite, misunderstood boy with a super evil scary alt personality." Nah. Foop causes trouble because he's Foop and he wants people to fear him. The alter is a totally separate thing to unpack (A newborn was separated from his mother and locked in solitary confinement during early development).

His alt personality exists and is part of him, but only two of his episodes truly emphasize it. The rest depict more subtle shifts. I just love it so much... the thought that went into this and the quiet commitment to having the alt personality show up in later episodes. Foop is one of my favorite characters and I love exploring his life.

My favorite thing about the alt personality is that it's very easy to glance at him and say "Oh, he's the stereotypical 'good' personality and Foop is the 'evil' one." And then you take another 30 seconds to get to know them and you're like "Oh. OH... oh my gosh. Why is he like that?"

I am specifically referring to him taking one look at Poof and cooing, "Does Mr. Popular want to fight??" Hey...

HERE is an outdated video showing all the personality switch moments I saw. I've found more switch moments since then (Ex: In "Fairly Odd Fairy Tales," some I missed in "Man's Worst Friend," there's one in "Certifiable Super Sitter," another in "Terrible Twosome" that's separate from Foop experiencing the Terrific Twos effects). I'd like to make an updated one sometime in 2025.

HERE is my post about the music switch in "Best of Luck," which happens to align with Irep holding his hands in a way only his alt personality did in the OG series. No idea if that was intentional, but I did laugh a lot. Why did they have Irep do that hand gesture at that exact moment. The gesture only the alt personality uses. Hey. what.

sse's newkids - picks + some thoughts thus far

top picks:

(👑) wuhao - multi-talented and i love his attitude. i know it rubbed some people the wrong way but i actually really appreciated his discussion about monster's key with jo minjae. i liked how confident he was in minjae's vocal abilities without being cocky or greedy.

chu yoochan - i just think he's funny (and talented). i actually didnt care for him at first, for no real reason, but ever since the team swap discussion i've been rotating him in my mind and i've decided that he's my son.

jo minjae - sooo talented, he's the first trainee i learned about before i decided to start the show. i wish they were nicer to him though, i feel like they never really praise him as much as i think he deserves

tier 2 picks:

kim yunseo - so he's not the most talented person on the show, like rapping is definitely his specialty, but there's something about him onstage that i just find to be really magnetic. i don't need him to debut through this show and there's basically no chance of that happening anyways but i really think he could have a bright future in a different environment. @ modhaus pls recruit

park wonbin - he's very clearly on the debut team like there's just 0% chance that he's not debuting here. the purpose of having him on this show is really just to build a predebut fanbase because he was definitely already gonna make it, with or without fanvotes lmao

miyata haru - he's very solid and very likable. the choreo he made for im ok team was really fun, im glad the judges recognized his skill, especially after monster (personally i think his rank was fair but their team deserved to win imo. 3 strong vocalists, 0 mistakes like cmon)

others:

suzuki kaira - so i think kaira is one of the most talented and well balanced contestants on the show but his intensity made me wary in episode one. what made me start voting for him though was the absolutely ridiculous outsized negative reaction to him online like omg you people need to get a grip. i really don't see a difference in any of what he's said and what some of the other [better liked, potentially more attractive] competitive trainees have said and the double standards are killing me. so im team kaira debut lmao, and i think starship is too

jang kyuhyun - i like him but now that i've solidified my top 7 i've stopped voting for him for the time being. i didnt like how they made it out like his team doing poorly in r1 was his fault (like blaming other peoples' mistakes on him) because he was the leader but i'm glad he was praised in r2. i think he'll be a very solid boy group member, whether it's here or elsewhere.

overall

i have pretty much 0 faith in my main picks but i'll be happy to see haru, wonbin, maybe kaira, and maaybe wuhao debut.

it seems so obvious to me that these trainees would make a good 12 member group. i know big numbers aren't popular right now but starship could have mini seventeen on their hands if they decided to take a risk. they could even do a concept with 2 smaller units if they wanted to (wait am i basically reinventing treasure...i dont know much about them at all but i think that used to be their concept)

i am shockingly un-enraptured by a few of the most popular trainees right now. i saw the ranks and cocked my head to the side because i just straight up didnt notice most of them. it's not like they're untalented or don't have potential, they're just very...blendy members? (well, a couple of them.) i don't really look at them and see stars, i guess.

i think the bias towards certain trainees is a bit too obvious honestly. people never like to admit when their picks are favored because everyone wants a struggle arc for some reason

even though i have a strong top 7 i probably wouldnt put them in a group, i don't think they'd work with just them. so basically i don't have an actual workable top 7 that i would actually like. i think if i try to blend my picks with popular people my top 7 would include semin, yonghoon, wonbin, haru, and seokjune but idk who else? what's good about 4/5 is that they're pretty flexible conceptually i guess. im not sure which main vocal would suit them best, since i think most of the vocalists on the show have a pretty strong conceptual lean.

i don't like how people are so desperate for a haobin moment that they're inventing it out of thin air. this is the most yaoi-less survival show ive seen in my life

i'm enjoying the show more than i thought i would considering that i turned it on on a whim. good job sse i guess. and thanks for employing yeonjung and soyou

What are your Head cannons for when Eloise and Phillip have children? Blending the family further.

For me, I think Eloise would flip her lid, wheb she becomes She would know it was a possibility. But once it was confirmed. Once it was real. She would go quiet and freak Philip, oliver and Amanda out.

I like to think for Eloise, loving Amanda and Oliver is easy. But when she has biological children, she realizes it's the same. I loved her in Frans epilogue.

* So we all know that everyone thinks Eloise is going to be a natural at being a mom, but I don’t think its going to be that easy

* I think in the beginning El would have rreeaallyy hard time with the children

* Not just trying to be a motherly figure in general

* But just the feeling of guilt like she is replacing Marina

* Now this is where i get a little controversial

* Eloise has ALOT of maturing to do (going by what we’ve seen in the show)

* Season 3 El is not up to the task of being a mom

* But i think her traveling to Scotland is going to be a major reality check for her and she is going to be doing some serious maturing

* El is going to struggle

* She’ll find it hard to connect to the kids

* But she will also feel so much guilt bc she feels like she’s trying to replace Marina

* She tells her that if this is what she really wants that she needs to step up!

* They have a whole moment where El realizes this is what she wants

* She then raises the twins to be quick witted but always respectful

* She also makes it clear that Marina is their bio mom while still making sure they know how much she loves them

* She also makes sure that they feel just as loved when Philip and her start having their own children

* Overall, i think she becomes a great mom to the twins, but it definitely isn’t an easy road

riize - i didn't even attempt to not stan them actually 😭 sungtaro were my nct biases when they debuted so i really really wanted to support them on their new endeavors so i already had plans to at least become acquainted with riize but siren had me MOVINGGGGG 😭😭😭 like i haddd to get in on that like i was Hooked. i couldn't even give them the time to marinate cuz of sungtaro so i just hopped right in 😞 and then my sister started biasing wonbin QUICK and i started biasing anton for like a week and then seunghan collected me 😖 and riize gives me heavy nostalgia so like idk i just love them a lot

&team - i've been supporting them since debut bc enha are one of my ults and ive been familiar with kei since then (i didn't watch iland i just knew abt kei and was familiar with some of the other boys names) and i was so obsessed with under the skin but i didn't end up fully stanning them for a while. i started to learn their names just so i'd know who they were when i see them around and things like that. i didn't start to stan them more until like july last year when i watched more of their content and then i fell off again until like october i think and they quickly became one of my top groups cuz they're so fun idk

zb1 - um i fully wasn't supposed to stan cuz wanna one and jbj disbanding hurted bad enough but while bp was going on i kept seeing clips and THEY HAD ME ROLLINGGG 😭😭 but i was having self restraint ☝🏾🤨 but then sol (adoresol go follow her and send her asks) she told me to watch zb1 content on july 12th 2023 ☝🏾😌 im able to see it in our ig messages LMAODGSJ but i started watching them and learning their names that day, i even told her i liked jiwoong 😖 but yeah then they stuck after that day cuz they make me laugh and they're so fun idk

when u think abt the timing of bts and blackpinks debut time there really wasnt much competition they were a one of their own type as one direction had just broken up (also rip liam 😭) ik lots of ppl like to peddle the narrative bts paved the way but i do feel like they got a leg up or a helping hand some way or other. also 7 is kinda a masonic number jsyk...

i dont feel like their success was totally all themselves and dare i say some of them mightve been passed around for such sexual favours or something much worse that we dont know about. if the diddy + taeil stuff has only just come about then i cant fathom what worse things they could have to do in order to debut. all these foreign groups love to cater to western audience so it makes me fail to believe they havent had a leg up from evil western entertainments ways of doing things. if that makes sense? i do think they sugarcoated their real hardships cause its more marketable and that they havent really told everything they have experienced in their predebut years.

what i find hard to believe as well is how quickly they were kinda just everywhere? again its not hard to fool ppl especially with the internet that has also aided these foreign groups to get more known. but also every other group or band has "got rid of" a member before either by the members own choice ie: drugs and alchohol and im really surprised that they still are almost in tact even scandals cant seem to touch bts too hard if that sounds right to say? ie: agust dui fine really was nothing at all compared to if he had done it in the west and seungri gets a slap on the wrist for his crimes. same for blackpink really who can seemingly half ass everything and theyre still good to go next year sorry for my rambling but ehh i needed to say it even blackpink have been a little bit dissapointing tbh

I do feel BTS' growth was organic, but then it became its own animal. I have gotten undertones in my reading of idols entertaining parties for favors, that could be to get deals, success, or to appease these perverts in the industry. I didn't know why I got that energy, but I did get it. Yeah, it surprises me that BTS is very hidden well, which means I feel HYBE is very good at hiding sh** and controlling the narrative, and the government definitely works with the industry, they are closely tied, so they help another out, so they may hide stories to keep them safe, that is what I get intuitively, because I am surprised with their fame nothing crazy has been leaked and I don't see these boys as squeaky clean. I don't see them as horrible though, I won't assume. I will be real Blackpink's success surprises me, not hating but other girl groups outshine them, but luck, having visibility and yeah, maybe playing the game better got them where they are. I just don't trust the industry anymore, so I question everyone who is crazy successful these days. I just think, what type of crazy stuff did you do to get there. I am so glad I am a normal person, living a normal life, because fame is no joke and a different breed, it isn't for the weak, because it will swallow you up and destroy your self-worth. Sorry, for the long rant lol

Look, gang. I did not think I was gonna be doing the writing thing this long. My Tumblr Wife talked me into posting a fic, then I posted a few more, and now I've posted so many Eddie fics I'm dreading the day I try to put another link on the masterlist and it hits me with the hundred-link limit and I have to make a second one.

I will never not be shocked when people tell me they love something I created, especially Evil Woman. I had no idea what I was doing when she made her debut. I stressed so hard about trying to keep her anonymous enough to be a You. And then at some point, she took the reins, and we both stopped caring if I was doing it right or not. Maybe that was the key to making people love her.

But I am so glad she resonates with You. I feel like before she met Eddie, EW was probably a bit of a misunderstood outcast. I mean, they're all technically outcasts because they're the freaks, but Evil Woman has her Eddie now… and all of you. 🥰 (She would WTF so hard about people willingly reading about their dumb little adventures. 😂)

smth i wanna talk ab is their friendships on the show and moments that i think ab A LOTTT

- heeseung and jungwon!! i think they grew close very early on esp bc they were in iland together from the start and u could see how sad hee was when jungwon almost got emiminated. like boy was in tears SOBBING when jungwon came back from that dam egg and i felt in that moment u could rlly see how much jungwon meant to him and he couldnt lose him

- JAY AND NIKI like when jay came back to iland and cried that niki didnt make it 😭 they were THAT DUO™️ in the ground stressing out teaching everyone fire. i think they were the perfecr pair to lead bc they both had an insane amount of passion and determination like niki was one of the only ones that understood why jay wanted them to keep practicing and not fall behind bc they both knew how much was on the line. they were also on the same team multiple times which caused them to grow close and the fact that jay was one of the ones who could speak japanese so niki definitely clung onto him and jay would help him out a lot :')

- SUNOO AND JAEBEOM. one of the most purest friendships on the show i swear. they experienced ground and iland together and in the behind cams THEY LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE GOSSIPING ALL THE TIME IT WAS SO CUTE. and the fact that sunoo used one of his calls to call jaebeom omg 😭 theyre probably still friends til this day since sunoo cherishes all of his friendships i rlly need them to vlog tgth or smth i miss them sm

- sunoo and taki 😭 when sunoo said he wanted taki as a real little brother I SOBBED. i think another anon talked ab them so i wont get into it much but im so happy theyre still close and we see them interact a lot

- enha 02z omg. iland is where jakehoon rlly took off and it was so endearing to witness their friendship blossom on the show. and jayhoon ☹️☹️☹️ i love every jay duo in enha but jayhoon (and heejay) takes the cake for me. when sunghoon worried more about taking jays place during the dance unit over winning it showed how much their friendship means to him. and when jay says the iconic line "my one and only unit" LIKE THEY ENTERED ILAND TOGETHER AND DEBUTED TOGETHER IT CANT BE MORE PERFECT THAN THAT. and during pt. 2 i loved how in the behind cams we got to see all 3 of them get closer and become the iconic 02z trio we know and love today (im just so happy they all got to debut together it was seriously fate)

- jay and k. so yes, k was really bad on the show and his competitiveness got the best of him. it was sad to watch how he treated other ppl sometimes and i'll say hes grown from it and is in &team now and takes care of the members well. (i watched &audition and his character development was crazy so good for him) but in iland u can tell how much jay really values k as an older brother. jay was one of the older contestants so he probably felt like he had to shoulder a lot and be a leader but when k is around i feel like he got to relax a little more yk? and as we know enha and esp jay dont really have many friends outside of the group (besides sunoo) and im glad theyre still very close til this day.

2. I saw that youre planning on/in the middle of writing separate fics for the other ncta members, will the y/n be different from the one in d&s & vitamin? im sorry if this sounds dumb, i just got into reading yn!pov fics & sometimes i get kinda confused when reading it as a series :’))

hey thank you so much for your ask i am so happy you're interested in more d&s! i have it on the back burner at the moment but i do have a few wips already written: dotae/y/n, and a jungwoo/gn oneshot i actually have shelved for the moment if only because i may end up repurposing a bit of it for the f4 au 😅 long story, but when i get deep into the weeds i try to make sure my au streams don't cross and they're distinct

in answer to your questions

1. the NCTA au will always have room for Shotaro and Sungchan even if they are now part of RIIZE. They will always be NCT members in my heart if for the fact that they made the last NCT U releases so special for me (Sungchan on Round & Round!? Shotaro on Make A Wish and Universe?! they're my boys). Also I know I only hinted at it but the AU is very SM in general with there being other agencies involved who built it, support it, and trouble it still (Diamante, Exile, and Artemis, respectively)

To your point about their loss being felt though I watched NCT Universe when it came out and really felt my heart break over and over at how delayed their debut was due to SM incompetence, COVID, et al. I really liked Eunseok (my RIIZE bias no lie) and Seunghan and wanted Shohei to be a part of NCT so badly after him taking on a second career as an SM trainee. he could have been an essential part of NCT Tokyo but they pivoted towards the competition model and didn't include him and it feels like a slap in the face to everyone who wanted this unit and how much work went in to preparing them for it. But I have hope for RIIZE in that their journey is starting and they deserve it after all they went through. On a side note I've been watching LASTART because I have a Viki sub for dramas but have little interest in the outcome because it's clear they've already handpicked who they want to debut but wanted the false reality show lead-up. Sion and Yushi will make good additions to NCT, at least. Yushi is an exceptional dancer although very shy, and Sion has a quiet confidence and natural skill as a leader that I look forward to seeing. My apologies to them both if they end up in a surveillance van (lol)

2. Great question and yes, any y/n outside of D&S will be a different character and that was always the plan (although I did have a lot of headcanons about an agency key party that I hopefully neatly folded into the reverse harem dynamics of agtbtb). The Doyoung/Taeyong series has them fighting over their secretary who's maybe a little into BDSM and my unwritten and unspoken outside of DMs Mark/Haechan oneshot introduces a con artist out of Hawaii who ends up with at least one of them. I have no idea when I'll have time to write both but they're on my mind, along with the third part of D&S

thanks again so much for the inquiry and welcome to y/n self-insert fics! following their first full album in april (which is coming up soon!!), ive once again took over the kpop scene with their first official EP. baddie wasn't necessarily a concept i had imagined for ive, especially since i've typically thought of their concept as a more mature, modern version of iz*one's. but i was pleasantly surprised with the song and the music video. however, i definitely prefer both pre-releases, with off the record being my favorite of the three and of the album. i'm a sucker for kpop producers sampling older songs, so this song using "memory" from cats was no exception. ateez's "the world" series is probably one of my favorite examples of world building in kpop. from the references to actual art pieces in the "guerrilla" mv to the cool "choose your character" type teasers with bouncy and crazy form, this was truly a great era for their music. both albums are a ride from start to finish. with this world building you up for dune's electrifying chorus like a rollercoaster trudging up a hill. the eery synths in we know feel like you're being prepped for a boss fight, either against or alongside ateez. although this recent album was the last of their "the world" trilogy, i hope they do decide to incorporate the instrumentals that accompanied it in future projects.

i'm happy to say that this is the first time i've enjoyed an nct dream full album entirely. in terms of title tracks, i still dont rly vibe with hot sauce, and it took me a bit to warm up to glitch mode, but ive always enjoyed most of the bsides. istj, however, is probably one of the best examples of "good" experimental sm music. a loud, techno-ish instrumental but with plenty of amazing vocal moments so the song doesnt sound like they're yelling at you. yogurt shake takes the cake as one of the cutest boygroup bsides of the year, another track that makes it difficult to be in a bad mood when you listen to it.

2023 was finally the year i decided to bite the bullet and jump into idles discography, with queencard being the catalyst for it. queencard is pure fun and you're miserable if you dont like it. oh, you're not a queencard? your boob and booty isnt hot? get over it.

i'd like to give a big shoutout to booseoksoon for releasing a song that manages to get me psyched up for work every single morning without fail. and not only that, but releasing an EP with a really cool concept; each track representing a different time of the day. ive listened to lunch many a time while waiting for 20 minutes in the line at qdoba. and i wouldn't have it any other way.

27. MY WORLD - aespa

25. The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION - TOMORROW X TOGETHER

my ult group makes their debut onto this list with their january EP. i thought of this album as a return to their softer concept seen in songs like "fairy of shampoo" or "blue hour", but with a more mature feel to the concept. tinnitus is an absolute gem in their discography, with the song and choreography (if you watch their performance) telling the story of using music as a coping mechanism. farewell neverland is one of txt's most underrated songs, in my opinion- another perfect song for winter. a brilliant start for boy group music this year.

when bts first announced their "chapter 2" back in june of 2022, i knew that yoongi's solo release was gonna be good. initially, daechwita was one of the only kpop songs i liked in 2020, and i patiently waited for him to produce another song using korean traditional instruments since it worked with his style so well. and my god, does haegeum deliver. using an instrument of the same name, haegeum is almost terrifying-- and the music video that accompanies it makes the experience all the more immersive. snooze is probably my favorite solo bside from a bts member this year-- an overwhelming yet inspiring track with a beautiful instrumental from the late ryuichi sakamoto, who had passed away a little less than a month before d-day's release, and kim woosung's wonderful vocals. people pt 2 was also an excellent pre-release, and has left me wanting at least 20 songs by yoongi with an IU feature. just a wonderful album overall that i regret not being able to see live every day.

23. Loossemble - Loossemble

the second post blockberry creative freedom release, loossemble's self-titled debut EP is just a fun and easy listen. i also really appreciated them for releasing this on a friday so i didn't have to worry about going to work with less than five hours of sleep. from the jazz instrumentals reminiscent of red velvet's "birthday" in real world to the unapologetically cute intro title "searching for their friends", this album is pure kpop. i also think it was really sweet that yves, despite not being an official member of this unit, got to participate in the production of strawberry soda and make one of the sweetest b-sides of this year.

22. Howl - CHUU

i am so unbelievably proud of jiwoo, especially as someone who's ulted her since 2018. her journey has been both heartbreaking and utterly inspiring. this ep is a wonderful solo debut and exactly how i envisioned it. aliens, an 80's-esque track, has aided me in several walks through campus, aka therapy. just an extremely solid ep that i also wish i could have seen live but alas had a final on the day she was going to be even remotely near me.

21. <Version Up> - ODD EYE CIRCLE

hey, that's three loona releases in a row! wacky! anyway, with how deprived i was of loona music and how often the boycott podcasts kept getting deleted off of spotify, oec could have released an album of them reading aloud from a cookbook and i would have streamed it like it was actual music. air force one is a masterpiece, a song that sounds like exactly what i would have expected to hear from odd eye circle if loona's subunits had continued to release music in official ot12 albums. the bsides are nothing short of perfect, from je ne sais quoi's hypnotic chorus to love me like's pep that motivates me when I go on the treadmill at the gym. also jinsoul with an eye patch was hot.

20. UNFORGIVEN - LE SSERAFIM

source music thinks they're slick for calling it a full album and then making the half that i didn't rank just a "greatest hits" compilation. i see you, bastards. anyways, shoutout to epatbw for being my most-listened to kpop song this year. it's funny to think that the part of "the hydra" that was never released back in oct of 2022 would end up being one of the most stand-out, love it or hate it b-sides of 2023. overplayed? you could argue that. catchy as hell? you betcha. flash forward also stands out to me, not only bc it's just a really cute song, but sakura finally has lines!!! the world cheered!!!

19. Guilty - Taemin

taemin, we are so happy a REAL performer is back. guilty, the styling, the choreography, and the bsides that accompany it are so unapologetically taemin. a perfect return to an extremely impressive solo career spanning what will now be ten years. also if i ignore the first sentence of the rizzness i can like the song. his power.

18. Good and Great - Key

if i could sit down and have a conversation with any idol and talk about their creative direction, it would be kibum. i'd also like to be in a committed relationship with him but i digress. from the dystopian workplace setting in good and great to the campy 80's horror movie elements used in the gasoline concept photos, to the bowie-inspired space concept in bad love, kibum has cemented himself as a one of a kind artist-- and has made me secretly wish for him to work with my favorite groups in terms of styling and concept direction. coolas is electrifying-- tbh one of the few english songs to come out of sm that i've enjoyed. kibum is many things to me, but most of all, he is a STAR.

17. EXIST - EXO

i was so deep into my zb1 hyperfixation in july that, although i listened to it the same hour that it came out, i didn't come back to exist as much as i thought i would. which i'm regretting as i type this and relisten to the album for the first time in a while. i unfortunately still can't really vibe with cream soda, and i'm upset with myself for not knowing why. but, rather than focus on the negatives, let's talk about the positives. it's an exo album. every bside here is handcrafted by jesus.

good lord he's done it again. after serving pure cutieful in dice and gut punching me with blue, jinki somehow does both with circle. i'll let you all in on a little secret; i'm a sucker for choirs being utilized in kpop (ex. this song, kind of dune by ateez, mama by j-hope). this song is already gorgeous on it's own, but the choir in the background of the chorus makes it all the more heart wrenching. the bsides are all excellently produced-- from the breezy track anywhere to paradise, which is heavily reminiscent of sunshine, one of my favorite bsides from his previous album.

THINK AGAIN, FOOLS!!!! kep1er once again releasing an incredibly high-quality EP only for it to go completely under the radar of kpop stans thanks to their shitty company. this concept was executed wonderfully, from the beautiful concept photos to that indie-film style trailer dropped before the album that apparently just never got brought up again. this album even has some of my favorite vocal moments of 2023, from the melancholy post-chorus in happy ending to chaehyuns spectacular high note in giddy.

13. MELTING POINT - ZEROBASEONE

zb1 gave us the best boy group debut this year and then said "watch us do it again" 4 months later. ANOTHER perfect album for winter. also, for a group not even a year old yet, kidz zone feels nostalgic enough to make you feel like you've known these boys for years now.

just insane production. slow dancing is one of the prettiest solo songs from a bts member, teased originally as a 70's style song about dancing with your lover-- that had me hooked from the beginning and i hadn't even heard the song yet. i mean of course i would know all about that considering me and taehyung are in a fully committed relationship haha i mean what lolololol

my favorite release from them to date. billlie are on their way to crafting one of the most intricate, unique discographies in the industry. but honestly, the final chorus of nevertheless alone is enough to say that they've already achieved that. kpop groups are playing checkers. billlie is playing chess.

6. ok im gonna be honest i still havent listened to kiss of life's full debut album yet but i really like sugarcoat and i think that song is good enough to deserve it's own spot in the top 10. we love you natty. we're proud of how far you've come.

it's hard to rank an album when all of it's songs are perfect, as has been the problem with a lot of these releases, but with fromis_9 in particular. i've said this before on twitter, but fromis are one of the very few groups to have an extremely seamless, graceful transition into a more mature concept since their debut in 2018. i can only hope and pray that pledis does more to promote them this year, especially after the success of unlock my world, and continue this gorgeous transition.

coming in at bronze is txt's third full length-album, which managed to do the impossible; make a rock song released by a kpop group NOT sound corporate. skipping stones is guttural, a song reminiscent of day6's music that, if i were just a tad bit more mentally unstable, would make me fall to my knees and clutch my chest in any public setting if i were to hear it. dreamer feels like a big sister to their older r&b track, 20cm, and just might be better than it. a solid full-length album from my ult group that i will treasure for a while.

2. Magic Hour - Kep1er

YOU THOUGHT I WAS DONE PRAISING KEP1ER??? YOU'RE TALKING TO HEAD KEPLI1AN HERE. this EP almossttt topped doublast for me. almost. magic hour, although i will defend kep1er's "noisier" music until the day i die, is the concept i admittedly think wakeone should have given them from the start. the softer, more elegant feeling exhibited in tracks like the door and tropical light fit each member down to a t and, if this is the path they will take until july of this year (except they're NOT DISBANDING they're gonna EXTEND THEIR CONTRACT UNDER A DIFFERENT COMPANY MARK MY WORDS), i am extremely excited for what's to come.

where do i even begin? this year saw the birth of the 5th generation of kpop, and i truly think there was no better song than in bloom to start it. refreshing and whimsical and sampling Aha's "take on me", in bloom is a masterpiece from start to finish. "my day starts and ends with you" rings throughout the song, promising the listener that they will stay with them. let's dissect the rest of the album. back to zerobase, the intro, is both mysterious and welcoming, ushering the listener in with a warm smile but holding something unknown behind it's back, evident in the album trailer it was originally teased in, with possible easter eggs to potential *matpat voice* LOOOREEE. new kidz on the block is fun and cool, telling other groups in the industry to look out, because here they are. and I shows off their cuter side, with lyrics perfectly crafted to fit the y/n fantasies of any zerose. our season is their standard thank you to the fans, we'll promise to stick by your side track except IT'S SO FUCKING GOOD AND THEY'RE GENIUSES FOR LISTING THE SEASONS IN THE SONG IN THE ORDER THAT WE MET THEM IN. finally, always, hao's solo song, is a sweet, vibrant song, carried by hao's beautiful vocals.

and there you have it. a very solid year for kpop for both boy groups and girl groups. this year was probably my favorite for kpop since 2018. now, with the releases already slated for january and the upcoming debuts of some groups, i'd say that 2024 already looks extremely promising be just as good as 2023-- if not better.
