Me: It’s oddly hard to start new-to-me books right now. Ever since January, or even the election. I’ve reread most of Aubrey-Maturin, reread a bunch of Sharpe, just listened to a Cadfael audiobook…I guess I crave comfort.

Also me: Daaaaaamn, The Haunting of Hill House [a book I had not read! Tho’ I had seen the 1963 film adaptation, which is good tho’ necessarily has a lick more straightwash on it.] was so good! I loved every ominous minute! I should find more horror books that make me feel continuously gripped and unsettled by an impeccable vibe of numinous dread.

Maybe I crave BOTH comfort and impeccable dread vibes? Like salty and sweet junk foods.
