Okay. When I say I was big into Hakuouki back seven years ago, I mean it. I have three Okita plushies (I seem to remember that @impracticaldemon helped me with the Western one), a couple Saito plushies, a Kazama plush, a couple Sano plushies, the limited Edo Blossoms box (filled with a bunch of goodies and a note—which I’ll admit reading again after all this time recently made me a little teary-eyed—from another old Tumblr Haku friend), and I swear physical copies of one (maybe both) of the movie or the third anime season, but I can’t find them atm.

Cana had a wry smile on her lips, swishing around her drink and probably reading Lucy’s mind. She was irritatingly good at that. Either Cana was too good or Lucy was too easy.

“Soooo…” Cana ventured with a snort of laughter, gesturing to the paper in front of Lucy, “I take it that isn’t an invitation to dinner at a fancy restaurant.”

“Haha, no, it isn’t. It’s a job flier,” Lucy grumped while trying to burn a hole in the offending paper with her eyes. It lay there, a bit rumpled from Gray’s rough treatment, crushing her dreams of a romantic anniversary date. “Really, Gray?”

She jumped as a strong pair of arms wrapped around her from behind, laughing a bit and relaxing as she realized who it was. She always relaxed; he felt so safe. Too bad he was as romantic as a rock!

Letting go too soon, he slid into the seat next to her, giving Cana a lazy grin and signalling to Mira for a drink.

“Gray, what’s this?” she tapped the paper for emphasis.

“A job.”

Cana snorted again before turning her attention to her drink. Lucy wasn’t fooled; the Card Mage’s sharp ears were always on the look out for more gossip. And Gray and Lucy had done nothing but provide it since they’d gotten together. Was it too much to hope things had finally settled down? Juvia seemed resigned or at least had stopped ambushing Lucy with barbed, hurt comments, and Natsu had finally started knocking on the front door after his last window invasion had gone wrong… uggh, needless to say, that had been mortifying! That didn’t even get into how Erza took the news; she was the chaperone Lucy had never asked for.

“For Team Natsu?” Lucy retorted archly.

“Oh god no,” Gray snorted and dropped his voice, “Just for the two of us. You didn’t look very closely at it, did you?”

Snatching it up and flipping it over, she tried to contain her squeal as her eyes went over the details, and she felt around for the two stiff tickets he’d tucked in the folds of the paper. Gray shot her a warning look to keep a lid on it. Whatever, playing it cool, like always.

It wasn’t until they’d left the guildhall, she jumped on him with a tight hug, which he awkwardly returned out of reflex.

“I thought you forgot our anniversary!” the Celestial Wizard gushed loudly. She couldn’t believe he actually got tickets. This was the most popular and exclusive couples cruise in Fiore, 7 days and nights of pure luxury. The price tag alone gave her sticker shock. What deal with a devil did he make to get them? No, she didn’t want to know. Lucy knew better than to look a gift horse in the mouth - with her luck they’d end up ruined the canal.

He scratched his cheek, “Uh, yeah?”

“You did forget,” Lucy accused, pulling back a bit in puzzlement. “But… the tickets… Did Mira put you up to this? She’s such a busybody…”

“What? No! You’ve been talking about this cruise a ton, so I thought you wanted to do it?You’ve been so tense and under pressure lately. Plus, that last mission… well, it was too close for comfort, Luce. I thought you’d want to get away and relax a bit. You do too much.”

The last sentence hit her, the soft tone full of admiration and admonishment both. She felt… seen.

He brushed her hair aside, gaze steady and sincere, “Let me do something for you. You deserve it.”

Maybe he wasn’t roses and candy but as she threaded their hands together, Lucy thought this suited him better.

In which Souji becomes an adult or life marches on at the Shieikan for better or for worse and everyone is cursed with being a teenager. But Chizuru gets to play with pretty hair, so there is that.

MY FAMILY IS NOT DOING WELL!!

My 4-year-old sister is struggling with chickenpox with a weakened immune system and a stunted growth due to two years of malnutrition. She’s extremely traumatized and screams when she hears the slightest loud noise. My 17-year-old sister keeps fainting due to starvation and lives with constant headaches. My older brothers are mourning the loss of a close friend. My mother is sick, exhausted and breaking down. As for me, for a week I’ve been feeling extreme pain in my teeth and ears.

We spend hours at the market trying to find something affordable, negotiating to no avail. We spend hours walking around, trying to find a new apartment, because the room we live in is infested with rats and cockroaches that bite us, run over us when we try to sleep and contaminate the little food we have. But everything just costs too much. 1kg of sugar is $150. One 25kg sack of flour is $1,000, and prices keep rising, commissions too. Our current rent is $500 every month. We need help, we’re drowning here.

I know even outside of Gaza people are struggling and donating is hard. I swear I understand that and I’m not forcing you. But please, please just share if you see this post. There is someone out there who can help us and I just need help to reach them.

Autumn Prompt: Frost

Fandom: Hakuouki (Saitou Hajime x Yukimura Chizuru; post-canon) Words: ~ 850

Author’s Note: Finally ready to start writing again after 3 month hiatus (for reasons). Challenging myself to write short fics or drabbles with Autumn theme. This vignette is pure hurt/comfort/fluff - entirely self-indulgent. 

Frost

Autumn came much earlier to Tonami, home to the displaced Aizu clan, than it did to Kyoto or Edo.  No, not Edo; Tokyo.  Saitō still had to quell a flicker of resentment over the change in name, but there was no sense in dwelling on the past.  It was only reasonable—well, understandable—that the new government would seek to eradicate as many traces of Tokugawa rule as possible, and Edo-Tokyo was perhaps the most enduring testament to Tokugawa Ieyasu’s ambition and foresight.  Since they couldn’t get rid of what was now Japan’s largest city, changing its name was their best option.  

Saitō sighed inwardly. Even contemplating the changing of the seasons brought him back to recent history, and losses that were still painful.  He tried to clear his mind once more and return to his meditation.  Almost immediately, his good intentions were thwarted by the sound of light footfalls and the rustle of dry leaves. A reluctant smile, more a quirk of the lip, touched his mouth:  either Chizuru had noticed the shift in his mood—somehow—or she had suddenly decided to come out to see him at just that moment by complete coincidence.  Such coincidences had become a part of the shape of his life in the months they had been living together.

He turned his head a little to look at her, and to acknowledge her presence.  She hadn’t changed much in appearance, he thought; it was most likely imagination that suggested she was even thinner now than when they’d arrived.  He felt guilty for bringing her to this desolate place, as useless as that sentiment was, and it clouded his judgment.  It was frustrating that he allowed emotion to rule his thoughts like this since his release from internment at the end of the war.

“I’m sorry if I disturbed you, Saitō-san—”

“Hajime.”

“Oh! I keep forgetting… I mean, Hajime-san.” She pronounced the syllables of his first name with special emphasis, and then smiled shyly.  He smiled in return, feeling the usual twin rush of satisfaction with her and dissatisfaction with himself for allowing his emotions such free rein.

“Is there a problem?”

“Ah, well, it will be getting dark soon, and it’s not very warm out today already, so I thought maybe you’d like to come in and have some tea?”  She squared her shoulders, and continued, “It’s really too cold for sitting on the ground you know, H-Hajime-san.”

“Hmm.”  She was right of course.  The air didn’t yet smell of snow, but tonight they would have frost.

“Or perhaps I should fetch water so that I can start heating a bath—”

“No—I mean, it isn’t necessary for you to fetch the water.  I’ll get it.”  The full bucket was heavy, and awkward for her to carry from the well they shared with their closest neighbours.  But that wouldn’t stop her, once she’d made up her mind that he needed a hot bath.

“Okay! Thank you, Hajime-san.”

“Chizuru… You do not need to thank me for fetching us water.”  He couldn’t help the amusement he felt creep into his tone.  “Especially not when it is water for my own bath.”

“Ah—”

“Although of course you are welcome to bathe first, if you wish.” Saitō kept a perfectly straight face, and waited for the inevitable reaction to such a shocking breach of custom (not to mention Chizuru’s manifest personal inclination).

“Oh no, Saitō-san! I could never do that!”  Sure enough, his beloved—his wife—was appalled.  But after only a moment she returned, undeterred, to her purpose. “So you’ll go fetch water now, then? And drink some tea while I heat your bath?”

Helpless before such determined care, Saitō rose from seiza, and pressed a light kiss to Chizuru’s forehead. That wasn’t quite enough to convey his gratitude, so he wrapped his arms around her shoulders, pulling her close to his chest.  He ignored her faint—very faint—protest of embarrassment.

“Yes, dear one.  I will fetch water now, and then we will have tea while it heats.”  He’d endured so much worse than sitting for an hour on cold ground in the past—days and weeks of sleeping injured and without shelter during the war in Aizu—but he knew that she knew this, and understood that it was why she was determined to spoil him (his word, not hers, of course).

“…Well, good then. … I mean, thank you for fetching the water.”  Her words were muffled by his kimono, but neither of them moved to break the embrace right away.

There would be frost on the ground tonight, but Saitō knew that he wouldn’t feel it in either his body or his heart.  Chizuru was a surprisingly stubborn woman, and she had appointed herself his guardian in these matters.  He would be able to grieve his losses in his own time, and in his own way, and she would make sure that he stayed warm.

heya! i think the terms “done properly” or “mess up the order” aren’t really applicable here. just so you know– even ikerev, ikesen, midcin, and ikevam don’t strictly follow the jp lineup of events. route order is different from event order. we can’t follow the event order exactly as the source because our games were all launched on different dates, plus there’s different events for certain holidays or seasons. tho we still follow it to a certain degree, there’s still differences here and there. just keep saving until you see a kiro karma you like!
