it is really exhausting how much people are really digging their heels in on that you cannot criticize or critique the narrative choices or direction or structure of CritRole C3 on the basis that it is not strictly scripted. like, yes, there is an element of improv, a strong element even, but this isn't completely free-form improv. there's a degree of structure and intentionality. it being somewhat improv or unscripted doesn't mean that it does not or cannot have structure, intent, direction, purpose, control over the narrative choices.

stating "well, it doesn't cohere as strongly because it's unscripted" doesn't hold when there's dozens and dozens of strong ttrpg campaigns that are also unscripted and improv. ExU Calamity, Candela, TAZ, Dimension 20, DesiQuest, NADDPOD, Into the Motherlands, Rivals of Waterdeep, LA by Night, Transplanar, on and on — these are all improv and unscripted with really strong storytelling and structure. "it's unscripted" does not mean anything because other campaigns manage! this campaign is capable of cohering despite being unscripted because plenty of other campaigns have.

like, on top of that, if you cannot criticize its direction on the basis of being unscripted and thus lacking in motivated intent, it suggests that you cannot praise it for messaging, themeing, narrative, or anything that would suggest needing motivated intent. if it cannot fail on the basis that it's unscripted and improv, then it cannot succeed either because such argument suggests that unscripted improv robs it of having control of its direction. for any failure to be without merit because it is not by full choice and is just out of their control, then any success is similarly accidental and without merit.

frankly, if I were trying to defend the direction of the campaign, I simply would not be doing so by functionally invoking Monkeys With Typewriters

I’m curious… what do y’all expect to see from Oscar’s qualifying next year? Because 20-4 looks pretty terrible, but when you look at the actual average % gap it’s not that bad.

Honestly the raw pace looks fine, in fp3, q1 and q2 he’s usually doing similar times to Lando so I’m not exactly sure what happens in q3. Unless Lando purposefully takes it a bit safer in those sessions? My theory is that Lando finishing just ahead of him kinda got under his skin over the year and he started overthinking it to get the few hundredths he’d need to end up in front, only to overcompensate and end up further back. Or could it be the pressure of only having 1 shot to do it right getting to him? But that doesn’t seem very Oscar-like.

It’s perplexing because in f3 he lost pretty convincingly to Logan in the head-to-head, I don’t remember the actual % gap but it was 8-1. Then in f2 he got a pole in silverstone and never looked back, stringing together pole after pole until the season was over. So I wonder if it could be a question of momentum, like, if as soon as he gets them going he’ll keep them coming. Which would be weird, because he has had “poles” in f1, in the qatar23 and brazil24 sprints. But that never really translated to banging quali laps in the actual qualifying.

Or is he just not as good at judging the limits of what he can do with his cars on tracks he is less familiar with? Because he was pretty solid in Europe, tracks on which he has competed in junior formulas, but not as much on tracks he’d experienced for the first time last year. If it’s that I hope he can show some good improvement next season, because that justification won’t fly for much longer.

Dunno, I’m pretty miffed on what’s happening here. I don’t think he can work much on ironing out his q3 mistakes during the off-season so I’m curious to see if a mental reset is what he needs to get going next season (an Oscar pole in Australia 25 would SLAP). Anyway, my guess is that next season he’s gonna get an actual pole, and from that point on we’re either going to see him rack them up OR focus too much on trying to replicate it and start making silly mistakes again

Sometimes I do kinda miss getting tagged on tag games all the time even though it sometimes made me very stressed (mental illness thing, not anyone's fault!!) but I am just trying to hold the attitude that like. It's okay to not fill my life with a million little tasks and I need to not take it as distressing if things don't reach me.

The show is pretty entertaining, Ella did such an fantastic job with Rhiannon, she's really an amazing actress with many talents for different types of characters, she got to show a very different side with this one and I really believe she nailed it

Maple Leafs discourse on their team social medias makes me lose brain cells because wdym they're first in their division and coming off a 5 game win streak & people are commenting that the top players are only in it for the money and have no drive, that particular players are useless and need to be traded asap, that they're a garbage team, that they'll never make it past the first round just because they lost one game.

Apparently because they are being payed handsomely the players must be mindless automatons who perform perfectly every night. It drives me absolutely nuts how quickly alleged fans will completely turn on their own team.

you know, I think neji would enjoy playing dnd. getting to write stories and play characters with no limitations, and having to improv with the other players because he would never have full control of where the story was headed? it would be a dream come true, and also therapeutic. neji would of course be the dm who would "yes and" anything his players want to do. the story would be something everyone has input on and would help shape. an adventure that neji himself couldn't predict or write on his own. also, just imagine him describing his setting and doing all his character voices, he'd love that so much

I think it would be a good exercise for quartz too, because they'd have to make their own characters and backstories and roleplay in character without a script to direct them. especially to kisa "transparent vessel" tachibana, who can act out any character but is afraid of letting herself be seen through them. similarly, kai as well, since he'd be in charge of his own character instead of propping someone else up

on the flip side, fumi would get to enjoy playing a character but not having the pressure to be the lead/spotlight of a story. he's there to play, not perform

sou would also LOVE dnd. I think he'd be really into the character creation and lore, and is probably the next person I can think of who can try being the dm when neji is sick/tired/wants to be a player. he's the player who takes down notes and remembers one small detail neji mentioned four sessions ago that becomes relevant to the current session. neji loves him because sou is the one who appreciates his world building the most

suzu and fumi would instigate so much in the adventure, which neji would love. suzu makes a character everyone loves (like hachipochi) and always brings snacks to the table

fumi has read all of the player handbook, and mitsuki has read maybe a quarter of it (only the relevant parts to his character and how some dice rolls and combat work). mitsuki is also the one who doesn't put much effort into his character's backstory but unexpectedly gets big character development during the adventure, surprising everyone in the table including both the dm and himself

otori is very good at both roleplaying and combat, has created a compelling character, and tries to go on solo adventures but eventually gets roped into the party because he can't adventure alone in neji's setting

Originally I took fridays off from work to do therapy but since I lost contact with my therapist I've just been using friday as a glorious day of cleaning and exercising and soaking in the tub with snacks just doing stuff alone without anyone at home and I know I'm still probably gunna need to contact a therapist again but at least my fridays have continued to be healing and relaxing. Fuck work forever and ever
