On This Day in Schitt's Creek...
Tumblr media
Well, hello, you! Were you wondering what fanworks were posted on this day in the Ao3 Schitt's Creek tag? Were you looking to read some older fics you missed or perhaps re-read an old favorite? Well, look no further! Each day, I will post all the fics that were posted Ao3 on that date from 2017 to 2024! Give some of them a read and show the authors some love! At the end of each month, I also plan to post some stats about the fics posted in that month.
Multi-chaptered works or unfinished WIPs will be posted on the date they were last updated. All fanworks included in the tag for that date will be included in the post.
2020
Designated Grape [david/patrick, M, 1,097] by bellalafrella
This is my idea of what went down on that car ride back to the motel after Patrick came to get his drunk fiancé from Herb's fruit winery.
Filling in the Blanks [stevie & patrick, M, 4,493] by Aelia_Gioia
A series of random text conversations that fill in some blank spaces.
In Moira Rosé Veritas [david/patrick, T, 2,283] by Aelia_Gioia
After David and Moira sample all the fruit wine, after Johnny and Patrick have a heart to heart, it all culminates in Room 6.
More under the cut!
Morning Rosé [david/patrick, T, 532] by whetherwoman
Somewhere Near [david/patrick, T, 20,777] by alldaydream
Patrick Brewer suffers from amnesia that has erased six months of his life, forcing him to move back home with his parents. No one knows about the life he spent in Elmdale, so he goes chasing after his lost memories there only to end up in Schitt's Creek instead, taken by the handsome owner of the general store he's supposedly never met before. Before 4x07 The Barbecue
sustineo [david/patrick, E, 10,056] by @rockinhamburger
The bad thing about being a world-famous contemporary artist is… actually, there are many bad things. The clout-chasers and users. The frenzied hoards of tabloid “reporters” and paparazzi vultures. The pressure from interviewers, curators, collectors, and art critics to pigeon-hole himself, or, at the very least, be consistent enough for them to do it for him. The neverending demands that he ascribe an approved meaning to his art. The elitist club at the very top of the art world pyramid, which David has never been a member of, what with his postmodern, mixed-media, performance piece style of art that in equal parts seems to shock and disgust and enthrall. Or, an alternate universe where David is a famous, reclusive modern contemporary artist and Patrick is the art critic who is interviewing him about his new exhibition.
Synchronicity [david/patrick, T, 2,966] by @landofsonlali
david and patrick have a conversation after leaving jake's apartment.

Assistant Direction [stevie & moira, T, 2,378] by bigficenergy
Stevie's lazy morning with Ruth is interrupted by repeated phone calls from Moira, who is nervous about her first day of filming the Sunrise Bay reboot and simply must talk to Stevie.
China [gen, G, 300] by Rosey_Peach
Come Away with Me [david/patrick, M, 6,034] by @flowerfan2
There’s a beauty to David that’s hard to define in words. Patrick prefers to tell him with long, slow kisses and the kind of gentle, drawn-out love-making that gets David to drop his defenses. He had sort of hoped that this weekend would lend itself to a night like that, alone in a fancy hotel in the L.A. he had imagined. It’s a lot less likely to happen in their subpar Airbnb. David and Patrick take a trip to L.A. for the Sunrise Bay premiere. It isn’t exactly what Patrick expected.
Free Marcy Hugs [david/patrick, G, 803] by @goodiecornbread
Marcy Brewer is a hugger. So she puts her mom hugs to good use. TW for implied homophobia/transphobia, but no phobic or harmful language is used.
kiss away the pain [david/patrick, T, 1,008] by @lastchancecafe13
“I can’t say that was something I would have ever wanted to see. I know you’ve told me stories but hearing and having it laid out in front of me like that. And he stood there with that smirk on his face--” Patrick's voice trailed off as he pressed a kiss to David’s lips. Patrick's thumbs traced the tear tracks down David's cheeks. He wiped them away before continuing, "I can’t believe after all that that you’re here and you’re so good David. After all that that you were willing to open your heart to me--" Tumblr kiss prompt #39 kissing the tears from someone else's face
Leaning on Somebody Isn't Easy [david/patrick, G, 2,976] by lucianowriter
A Continuation of “Hate To Say That I Miss You.” It’s been three weeks since the phone call and David finds himself single and at a bar where Patrick is. A conversation happens. Will they get back together or is there too much baggage? Based off Ben Platt’s Temporary Love
The Diamond and the Duke [david/patrick, E, 4,005] by asoftplacetoland
Patrick plans a very special roleplay for David for Valentine's Day based on his latest television obsession.
Mine Own Weak Moments [stevie & moira, 6, 3,644] by @treepyful
When her phone buzzed with a silent call for the third time in eight minutes, Stevie debated throwing it out her open window.
The Moira Rose Story [johnny/moira, G, art] by WrathoftheStag
It's the poster for the upcoming, and highly anticipated, Interflix movie The Moira Rose Story.
this is my confession [david/patrick, T, 791] by @blackandwhiteandrose
Patrick finds a way to tell David the things he wants to say before David is ready to hear them.

About a Boy [david/patrick, T, 13,507, CW: MCD] by the_same_but_different
"How about mac and cheese?” “I’m very uninterested in that option.” “RJ.” “Patrick, I’m sorry, but these lunch selections you’re offering me are just…” “Incorrect?” “You said it, not me.” Patrick’s relationship with Roland Moira Schitt Jr over the years. (With bonus audio commentary from David Rose.)

Easy [david/patrick, G, 1,154] by obsessedwithdavrick
David loves his husband and enjoys his Sunday sleep-in. Patrick loves to spoil David. They both are taking time to enjoy their slow time together.
Making Everything Okay [david/patrick, T, 1,064] by obsessedwithdavrick
After many years of marriage, Patrick could pretend to be okay as much as he wanted. But David knew when his husband wasn't okay, and sometimes he just had to be the one to take charge.
oh honey, you can have me when you want me [david/patrick, E, 2,990] by stereopticons
“Such a good little slut.” He gives Patrick's ass a light slap. “So here's what I'm thinking. I think that you put on that dirty little sweatshirt because you wanted me to bend you over this table and fuck you, isn't that right?” David accidentally buys Patrick a joke hoodie. Patrick wears it, to great effect.
Rosewood [david/patrick, M, 40,050] by @beaiola
Inspired by Jane Austen's Mansfield Park. Patrick and David have been friends for years, their bond deep and undeniable, and there's no one whose opinion David values more. So when a new family moves into the neighbourhood, it's only natural that David should turn to his oldest friend for his advice and support as he tries to work out what this could mean for him and his future. Patrick, on the other hand, isn't as instantly taken with Sebastien and Klair Raine but David's sure when they all get to know each other things will be different. But there's no way he could forsee the impact the Raine siblings will have on the residents of Rosewood.

@becauseforoncethisisme asked:
So is John Pevensie still an antagonist in Stone Gryphon? (Am I asking this because I love Helen and Mrs. Godwin? Yes. I am also asking because I love a furiously protective person and John seemed like that in the snippets from his perspective)
First, thanks so much for reading and reaching out about the first chapters of Heart and Crow Make The Peace.
Ware below for LONG meta/history/ruth stewart blather
For many years, the first and last look readers had of John Pevensie was a scene in the posted Apostolic Way.  It’s a disastrous dinner at the Rainbow Room in New York City, where Col. Walker-Smythe has brought Edmund to America to work as his aide and batman.  John is, as presented in the story, a writer and editor, recruited by the SOE, to work on the generation of pro-British propaganda.  He is a serial philanderer, is bitterly disappointed that it is Edmund, rather than Peter, who has come to America, and the dinner is excruciatingly painful as John’s memories of his children are several years old and certainly pre-Narnia, leaving Edmund to, once again, be far kinder than his father deserves and Walker-Smythe is furious.  It’s made worse by numerous women who have obviously enjoyed John’s attentions in the past stopping by the table to say hello.
Meanwhile, Helen Pevensie is back in London, and true to what was more common in 1943 than it was in 2020, has been in a sexual relationship with Mrs. Beatrice Goodwin, the widow next door.
I was probably too successful in the scene as John can come across as a craven and cruel person. Readers’ sympathies (and mine) have always tilted to Helen.
With the reposted story, I slightly tweaked the previous version of the Rainbow Room scene and have introduced in text that a part of John’s issue is untreated PTSD. So, is this signaling a change of heart for me in John's role? and what about Mrs. Goodwin and Helen?
John's untreated illness is an explanation, in part, but not a justification to be sure.
I’ve always intended for Helen and Beatrice to go their separate ways.  As broad-minded as the Four are, it's different when your parents are involved and I’m finding it hard to push myself to writing that as a resolution or where it’s all just one big happy polyamory.  From discussions with readers, I could see Beatrice moving to a small market town for economy, meeting another widow with young children and you know, there are only 2 bedrooms in the cottage, so of course….   Post-war England was filled with these kinds of relationships of economy and convenience and, presumably, potential romance amongst widows.
As a writer, I also want John and Helen to both put some work in and try to rebuild their relationship.  This is something millions of people had to do post-War and I’m interested in how and whether couples can overcome infidelity.  I’m not sure I could, personally (I’ve been married for over 30 years!) and I’m interested in developing it.  TSG itself presents numerous different takes on bonding and infidelity which, while true to the time period, is also intended as a contrast to Edmund and Lucy’s  own sense of loss for their partners.  Something I’ve not decided is whether Morgan and Aidan, respectively, went on to have their own relationships some period of time later.
There’s another reason for introducing John’s PTSD.  TSG was originally supposed to be a two-fer, Peter-centric story.  I was going to do a time-skip after the conclusion of Ox 1942 and jump to post war, with Peter starting an affair with Mary, dropping out of uni, finally finding his path, and then everyone dying, with Susan left behind (I had this about half-written, even). I never, EVER wanted to touch the 1940s UK educational systems or Peter’s potential service in the military as I deemed bothway beyond my storytelling skill.
[TQSiT was never in the cards – that’s the fault of an early reader, Miniver on ff dot net long since gone, who asked, Well, given these adventures for Peter, and Lucy and Edmund off on the Dawn Treader, surely Susan is up to something exciting in America, which coincided with me reading a WaPo review Connant’s The Irregulars.  Oops.]
So to avoid having to write Peter in the service, from the very beginning, back in Ox 1942, I wrote that Peter’s parents are opposed to his service and he’s willing to go along with it because he thinks he’s an insubordination risk.  I never explained why they are opposed which is really not especially consistent with the patriotism of the time.
So, in the story I’ve picked up again 12 years later, John’s trauma at Dunkirk as now part of the reason for that opposition.  He goes to War to protect his family and early on is deeply traumatized by the failures to evacuate soldiers on the beaches; he hears the screams of men and ships going down in his dreams.  In his own protective misguided way, he wants to protect his family from that horror. And when he finds out that Aslan plucked his children out of England and turned them into warriors, he is going to be PISSED.
 Oops.
Thanks so much   @becauseforoncethisisme!!

Howdy. I accidentally deleted your ask after queuing it and trying to edit it but i did save the text at least lol 🥺
I follow alot of cool ppl across many fandoms that I can see put in time and passion into their OC's and the lore behind them which I just think is neat.
Also the scenery/environmental photos from games 🤩 Various other medias with fanarts/crafts/writings that others create and share showing off something they made just inspires me a lot.
The tags ppl leave are so funny or heartwarming too and also people reblogging about something that's in a game that they have knowledge on or blows them away that someone put some details in that resonates with them makes me smile.
I have a few from Cyberpunk 2077 Kenneth & Nenon, making a new one soon. A fallout 76 one Hazel, rdo Ruth and gtao Victoria.
Far as npcs and such thats such a long list but I post alot of batfamily.
Thank you for the ask, Can't wait to see more of your OC Valerie Donahue and the random cool pics 😎

The New English Art Club Annual Exhibition 2024 is online right now (link here), so I wanted to go through it and share my picks with you guys.
The online exhibition is set up mainly to sell art, so there is very little information about the works on the website. There are no descriptions or artist's statements, so we are going purely on my vibes here. The selection and arrangement is also mine, so this post is in essence a mini-exhibition curated for you by me. I'm gonna call it:
State of the Art
A Curated Selection from The New English Art Club Annual Exhibition 2024
(Image descriptions in alt-texts.)
We start with my absolute favourite, "Natural History Museum, Oxford" by T. F. Ashley. (Link)
Pro-tip for any aspiring curators: you always lead with the strongest piece. If this was a physical exhibition, this would be on the poster, this would be hanging on the main wall of the space.
Tumblr media
I am the kind of person who prioritises drawing over everything else in art. I don't mean drawing as a medium (though that is important to me too), but as an element of art. And this piece - while obviously being made in a drawing medium - also manifests the kind of drawing that I think is important. To me that kind of drawing is almost like thinking with a pencil in hand, making a thought process visual, visible.
This piece also has that elusive quality of looking tactile. I live a very digital life, and I have chased that vibe of "digital image that looks like you are touching it" for a long time - and this image nails it.
I am also drawn to this image for its content, as I work in a museum so the picture is relevant to my professional interests, too.
Rest of it is under the cut, because I am considerate of y'alls dashboards.
Landscapes
First we will have a landscapes section. Landscapes are not usually particularly divisive, so it's a safe choice to lead into an exhibition with them. They also have the power to be familiar: the viewers of the exhibition might know the place depicted in the works. Or, since a lot of places on Earth have similar vibes, a place might remind someone of a different place.
Melissa Scott-Miller: "Waterside Cafe, Little Venice" (Link)
Tumblr media
For example this painting reminds me of Coventry, where I used to live, because Coventry has a river running through it, and the river has these kinds of narrow houseboats on it. I never had the opportunity to visit one, so this painting makes me feel some kind of a nostalgic longing or remembering a missed opportunity.
It leads us to the next painting: "Boating Central Park" by Ruth Stage. (Link)
Tumblr media
This painting is done in egg tempera, which is not an easy technique, and knowing that appeals to me - I enjoy examples of humans being good at doing difficult things. The image is also beautiful. It doesn't look like anything I have ever seen. Like, I can get vibes of influences, but it doesn't feel like I have seen paintings like this a lot in my life. Also grey is my favourite colour.
Next we will have another unique-looking landscape, "Estate - The End of the Affair" by Andrew Torr. (Link)
Tumblr media
The geometric shapes and planes of colour are approaching abstraction without crossing over to it. I also really enjoy mundane things being given the art treatment, because making a painting does elevate its subject, still. The area depicted in the image looks like somewhere people like me might live, in a way that "fancy" places don't, because I'm not rich or fancy.
Taidg O'Malley: "Piazza del Campo Rooftops, Siena" (Link)
Tumblr media
Another landscape approaching abstraction, with the additional layer of an unusual point of view. I just really really love this, it is so inventive, and especially when "Siena" is the name of a place but also the word for the colour that is the most prominent in the image. The artist is using the medium of the painting to pass on that insight they have had about the association between the name of the place and the name of the colour, and it feels fantastic to be receiving that insight. For my personal art practice sharing insights and pointing out things I have noticed in the world are central motivations for me, so all sorts of synapses are firing for me right now.
And lets pair another high up view point with the painting above:
John Duffin: "W1A - BBC and All Souls Church, Langham Place" (Link)
Tumblr media
This is an etching, which is a kind of print where you scrape the image onto a metal plate with a needle. I love a fine line and you don't get much finer lines than with etching. I also really love all printmaking. The mood in the image is also top notch, very dramatic and powerful, even ominous. The light is almost like a frozen explosion, and the tall buildings make me think of Batman the Animated Series. I also really like the use of the postal code in the title. Not sure why, but it's cool, interesting, I like codes.
We will continue the fine lines and meticulous details idea here, with Neil Pittaway's "Brunel City". (Link)
Tumblr media
Something about the colours and the details done in white hark back also to the egg tempera painting of Central Park, but this one is a drawing done with pen, ink, watercolour, and "body colour" (???) The image is delightfully Inception-esque, and I really jive with this way of depicting a city.
We follow it up with "Wiener Jugedstil Palast" by the same artist. (Link)
Tumblr media
More of this incredibly enjoyable line work depicting the kind of architecture I (and a bunch of other people here on Tumblr) like.
Portraits
It leads us neatly to our next segment: Portraits. Portraits are also nice and friendly for viewers, because we are humans and we know how to look at pictures of other humans. Of course the depiction of humans does bring in the possibility of viewer (and artist! and curator!) bias, bigotry, and sense of propriety (what if someone is naked? what is appropriate? where do we draw the lines?) so we run a slightly bigger risk by introducing the human element to our exhibition.
We start with Frederick Jones and "Hidden" (Link), as it carries a similar visual language as the above drawing.
Tumblr media
This wood engraving might not be a portrait in the strictest sense, considering the person is obscured, but I don't subscribe to the idea that we can be identified only by our faces. Also the Rene Magritte vibe is strong here, and who doesn't like a good Magritte.
Michelle Maddox: "Self Portrait in the Studio" (Link)
Tumblr media
Another portrait with an obscured subject, with nice geometric-ish surfaces of colour (check out those circles and semicircles on the twigs in the vase!), which this time add to the Magritte vibes.
Tumblr media
Charlotte Sorapure's "The Lepidopterist's Dream" (Link) introduces another layer of surrealist inspiration with the trope of the reflection in a mirror reaching out. The vase with plants connects this one to the previous painting too.
The objects in front of and reflected in the mirror seem normal enough until you hang on a moment exploring the image and begin to notice that some of the butterflies have alighted onto mirrored images of flowers.
Then we use the profusion of flowers and butterflies as our link to the next painting, where the background has a profusion of organic elements.
Julie Held: Self Portrait (Link)
Tumblr media
Something about the strangeness of the composition appeals to me. My eyes explore the background, trying to figure out what is going on (is it upside down?) before returning to the awkward, sketch-like figure in the corner.
Next up is Barbara Leidl's "Dominic (and Bird)". (Link) We continue the theme of limited palettes.
Tumblr media
I love earth tones, and the bird on the figure's shoulder is absolutely perfect. The use of outline with minimal shading works so wonderfully well here. It's the drawing again.
Paul Gildea: "Boy with Necklace" (Link)
Tumblr media
A slightly impressionistic treatment, which is an enduring trend in contemporary painting, but the subject punches it above the mass. It makes me slightly uncomfortable, because the subject seems so beautiful but vulnerable and uncomfortable too. My sense of propriety doesn't quite know what to do with this image.
Maxim Langford: "Arnold" (Link)
Tumblr media
The shifts in value, light and line work in this one are incredibly satisfying to see, they scratch some kind of an itch for me. Also I am very partial to profiles, I just think profile portraits are the most interesting and beautiful.
Shadi Vahabzadeh: "The Daughter of the Sun" (Link)
Tumblr media
We are once again nearing abstraction, and here I particularly like those pattern fills on the skirt and the vase, and the lighter area in the background. They connect well to the way the shirt and hair of the previous drawing were also only sketched out as shapes.
Shanti Panchal: "The Book of Revelation" (Link)
Tumblr media
This one combines together a lot of elements that I find particularly enjoyable: the profile view, the combination of line art and subtle shading, surrealist influences, and even the combination of the yellow sofa and the grey background is right up my alley (because I run an aesthetic blog for the colour grey called @grey-in-color and my friend does one for yellow called @marigoldserenity and one year Pantone chose grey and yellow as the colour combo of the year).
And we close the portrait section with a painting that is only dubiously a portrait (though every foot fetishist worth their salt will tell you that you can recognise a person from their feet).
Sharron Astbury-Petit: "Reclining with Venus". (Link)
Tumblr media
It connects to the above painting in several subtle ways: the style of line art and shading is similar, there are nude figures in both; but also the contrast between the flat grey background of "The Book of Revelation" and the profusion of colours and organic shapes in "Reclining with Venus" - which one might expect to find in a painting inspired by Indian miniatures. I also really enjoy the subtle touch of the bird tattoo on the ankle, which matches the busy vibe of the background.
Still Life
The next segment is paintings of objects, still lifes. We'll start with William Pierce's "Trainers" (Link), which carries us nicely over from the previous image of feet.
Tumblr media
Here too the vibe is nearing abstraction and sort of impressionistic-ish, but what can I say, a trainer (sneaker, running shoe, tennis shoe, whatever you call it) is such an iconic object that it just always works.
Jason Line's "Bric-a-brac" (Link) also has shoes in it, and a similar sketchy feel.
Tumblr media
I also find this perspective kind of strange and interesting, looking at things from above, as if they are laid on the floor. Like logically I reckon that is a table, but to me the feeling is of floor for some reason.
The next painting by the same artist continues the floor vibes: "Still Life with Shell" (Link)
Tumblr media
But here more than the weird perspective vibe, I love the colours. Look at all that amazing grey, which is accentuated by the pink shell and the blue bottle (it's called "@grey-in-color" for a reason).
Claire Venables: Recreating the By-Product (Link)
Tumblr media
Similar vibe here, with the way the shapes work, and with the colours. This is aesthetic manna for me. Also blue is my wife's favourite colour, so I do pay more attention to it due that. The subject is also fascinating, it is not common to see science as the subject in visual arts, especially in traditional mediums like painting.
Agata Smolska: Arrangement in Yellow (Link)
Tumblr media
And here we have grey and yellow meeting again! But I just really find any and all colours in the same image with grey to be really compelling. Everything goes great with grey. The subject is also another great example of elevating the mundane, with paper cups and napkins (and a lemon for some reason? What are they serving?)
Misc
We finish this exhibition with a grab bag of paintings that don't quite fit any of the above categories. Which I think is important, you always need to have space for things (and people!) that don't fit into your neat little labels.
First we have "Not Forgotten" by Aidan Potts (Link) which could be a still life, or a portrait of a flower. That's actually something I have thought about a lot, plant portraiture.
Tumblr media
By now you know my thing well enough to see it right away: I am here for the grey and the colours. I also love the challenge of the title, because a plant growing in a crack in the sidewalk is pretty near to being forgotten, despite still fighting. Which reminds me: Free Palestine.
Toby Ward: Bike Repair Station (Link)
Tumblr media
Here again appears my beloved line art with lively flat areas of colour, and the elevation of the mundane. But I also love the subject matter, because bicycles have been important to me throughout my life.
And last, "The Bar at The Bull" by the same artist (Link).
Tumblr media
We finish with a painting that I can't quite explain what it is I like about it, because it just goes straight into my feelings without passing Go. It reminds me of something that I don't have anymore, even though I never had it. This one for me connects to Harpo Marx and how important he is to my life, but the connection is too convoluted to try to explain. But what is more useful to explain is the fact that this connection exists and is the reason I am drawn to this painting. Because there's no way the artist was making this painting thinking that I would connect to it through some convoluted Harpo Marx connection.
Instead this painting being the finisher in my little online exhibition is an illustration of the fact that we see in art what we bring to it as much as what the artist and the subject bring into it. We mix it all together in our brains and get some sort of experience out of it. And that's pretty much all there is to art. It is a form of communication you cannot achieve with any other form.
-
Thank you for reading/looking, I know that was a lot and I did it mainly for myself, but I'm glad you were here along for the ride.

Blog Post - Week 4:
How does intersectionality have an impact on our society? (Dr. Kimberle Crenshaw - Defines Intersectionality)
In the video, Kimberlé Crenshaw talks about the concept of intersectionality, which emphasizes how a person's experiences, usually surrounding sexism and racism, are shaped by the overlapping of various aspects of their identity, including race, gender, class, and sexuality. It highlights how oppression and discrimination can take many different forms and that all of them can't be fully understood in separation. For example, the video discusses how a Black woman may encounter sexism and racism in ways that are relevant to her identity. Recognizing these connections can help society address inequality and make efforts to promote social justice to be more inclusive to the wide range of everyday situations.
What is old vs new cyberfeminism?
The initial idea behind the cyberfeminism movement was that women would use the internet to rebel against and overthrow the patriarchy. These days, it has grown more complex, recognizing the hierarchical structure that exists in our society and the tools required to break it down, starting at the lowest level. Since it addresses how racism and capitalism connect with the patriarchy and its attempt to marginalize all minorities, not just women, it adopts a more intersectional perspective. For instance, the legal system accuses people of crimes using technology like face recognition, which is biased against people of color because it was developed and implemented by White, biased people. Daniels (2024). One way that new cyberfeminism functions today is realizing how women of color can be impacted by this, even though white women aren't.
What impact does the historical background of racial inequality have on contemporary technology?
Benjamin makes links between modern technologies that uphold racial structures and historical racial control mechanisms like slavery and Jim Crow legislation. In addition to this, societies with a long history of racial oppression make technological advances. For instance, the surveillance technologies that are currently employed in law enforcement have their origins in past techniques for managing marginalized communities, and new technologies might just offer more advanced means of carrying on with these methods.
How does Noble connect the bias of search engines to oppressive historical forms?
In the text, Noble makes a comparison between historical instances of racial and gender discrimination and the biases built into search algorithms. According to her, search engines and other digital platforms are now infected with the same ideologies that have historically discriminated against women, people of color, and other minority groups. Digital spaces continue the historical legacies of colonialism, patriarchy, and white supremacists, making it challenging to separate technology from these solid oppressive systems.

Disclaimer: order is very random not based on closeness @audristarzz
Tumblr media
The Hughes Family: met them throught Quinn when we started hanging out as friends. Ellen and Jim accepted me in the family immediately and weren't surprised when we told them Quinn and I got together. Jack and Luke act like older brothers with me
Tumblr media
Lily-Rose and Johnny Depp: met them during a red carpet event, spent the night chatting together, me and Lily exchanged phone numbers. The next day she texted me to go to brunch, became closer in a couple of weeks. Johnny is very nice to me and treats me like part of the family

Tumblr media
Dylan O'Brian: met him at the airport, started talking and we hit it off immediately. We are each other's #1 supporters.
Tumblr media
"Team Free Will 2.0": I met Jensen Ackles first. It was during a ComiCon in LA, he was with the Supernatural cast, and when I greeted him he recognized me from a video we were tagged on (fans think I could play his daughter in a movie/tv show); Jared said something about my energy on set and how much he is happy to see young actors having fun while working; Misha asked me if I was cosplaying Castiel (which I was) and laughed a little; Alex wasn't very talkative but he said he saw the trailer of one of my projects and he still has to watch it but he is sure I did great
Tumblr media
Supernatural Cast: Met a couple of them (Mark Sheppard; Rob Benedict; Jeffrey Dean Morgan; Richard Speight JR; Jim Beaver; Ruth Connell; Felicia Day and Mark Pellegrino) in different moments of my life and they all were very nice and wished me the best in the entertnmeint.
Tumblr media
Arata Mackenyu and Kento Yamazaki: worked with them between 2015 and 2018. They are both very nice and sarcastic, what is better is that both of them match my energy very well
Tumblr media
OPLA Straw Hats: I met them during a party to watch and celebrate the live action series
Tumblr media
Kamiki Ryunosuke: met him during a night out with Arata and Kento while we were at the karaoke. Treated us to chinese food (me, Arata and Kento tried to change his mind but failed)
Tumblr media
Kim HyungSeo "BIBI": Met her by accident at a convinient store late at night. She helped me choose what to get because I couldn't make up my mind and had ice cream together. Met her again a couple of days later at a Korean BBQ resturant and kept in touch since
Tumblr media
Timotheé Chalamet: Met him before knowing Lily, we weren't the closest buddies but we texted a couple of times a week. Became closer with time, even after he broke up with Lily (the break up was friendly and from both sides) and the one helping me with the Hailee's situation. I friendly call him "rat face" when he annoys me
Tumblr media
Matthew Gray Gubler + Criminal Minds' Cast: met them during a ComiCon. I attended the show pannel and before it started bumped into Matthew and asked to take a picture together; as for the rest of the cast it was after the panel was over I waited to be the last one to take a picture with them and for the autographs. Some months later I posted an IG story where I took a picture of the pilot episode saying that I started another rewatch session and some of them liked it and commented. We are mostly "online" friends than irl friends as I like to describe it
Tumblr media
Kardashians/Jenners: I am in their cyrcle of friends becuase of Timotheè. Kylie and Kendall are the ones I am closer with becuase of age; Kim, Khloe and Kourtney are like the older sisters I never had and knows everything as soon as it happens (Khloe is the best at giving advices); Kris is very nice with me and proud of my goals

in the process of moving departments at work and this is predominantly a good change (better schedule, will be doing more of some things that I miss like inpatient care and working with a wider variety of species, will get misgendered less lmao), but also. we got transferred a very shocky hemoabdomen dog this evening and the whole event made me feel very bittersweet. I love anesthesia tremendously when it's complex and dynamic and we have good surgeon-anesthetist trust. I love learning the in-depth medical knowledge it requires and the relatively high degree of autonomy and knowing that I've meaningfully contributed to my patient's care. I am, imposter syndrome be damned, good enough at it for two of the critical care team to comment as much today! and at the end of the day I don't actually get to do cases like that often enough to justify staying on a schedule that's negatively impacting my quality of life, but every time it happens I go, what if I stayed another week. what if.
(the answer to which is probably "then you will be left on standby on more days when we don't get any transfers and/or be pulled for ortho anesthesia and feel like you're clawing at the walls again." I know this. the temptation remains.)
anyway the dog is not out of the woods but was doing shockingly (ha) well considering the circumstances by the time I went home! lost a lot of blood, got given a lot of blood, is now able to sit up and interact with people when he couldn't do much more than move his eyes when I met him. he's making good moves and I'm very proud of him.

okay so i just spent a really long time looking though all my old notebooks in order to find my notes on coming up with names for my dragon age characters, because i thought that remembering the logic i used for them might help me come up with a rook's name that would be more natural for my world state. and in the process i discovered several things:
a. it is NOT easy to find something specific like that in my notebooks. i kind of remembered how the page where the names were written on looked (i was wrong), but i didn't remember the exact year. and for context i have been leading some kind of a diary/journal since literally the day i learnt how to write. and i still have all of them. yes, after high school diaries mostly transformed into bullet journals, and after i dropped out those transformed into notebooks for anything and everything with no system other than dates, but i never stopped actually having a notebook. which is also where most of my creative drafts are
b. i very rarely wrote years on my notebooks. dates always. years - FOR SOME REASON NOT
c. i have two places where i keep my journals, apparently. and i didn't sort them chronologically very well
d. there are A LOT of notes on some creative ideas i had in the past that i have no idea what they mean now at all. what if i was cooking back then......
this is where i slowly started to find my da notes, thank god. read more to spare your dashes, but by god i'm noting my discoveries down
so first of all i discovered, which is something i forgot about, that i was trying to come up with a full name for ruth, my warden. because at some point i thought that ruth, the name i originally came up with, didn't sound very elven, so it had to be a nickname for an actual full name
well, i didn't exactly come up with ruth. i guess it wasn't long after i read fried green tomatoes, and when the game asked me for a name, i probably looked back at my bookshelf, thought, HEY the old time lesbians book! and named my warden after one of them lesbians from the book
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so my notes on her full name are....
first of all, i looked at this and was like, what was the fucking reference. i had no idea. didn't feel like some dragon age inspired elven language, but i filed this for later research, cause i still haven't found others' names
second of all, i don't know how i feel about this "final" full name. not surprised i forgot i even had this thought process. but let's just say this is non canon. and besides, considering she's trans, that would make even more sense that her name is just ruth. that is her name that she chose and it doesn't matter much if she had any other names before that. that is all left behind, if not in her clan's memory, than in that cursed mirror
moving on i found the pages where i was making my hawke's name
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so i just, while writing this, realised what happened. i think back then i was still mad you can only play as a human in da2 (listen i was yet to find out da2 is one of the best games ever made) so i was trying to headcanon my hawke as a half elf and make him a name that would reference his "elven" name. i don't think it makes any sense, there is not a single elf in amell's family (who i learnt a lot about today, while scrolling da wiki again). but yeah, his elven name was tariam? and that in human was tarjei
i will decree this also non canon. he's just tarjei, it's fine.
then i found the notes on my first, now also non canon, inquisitor, lavellan, who things didn't work out with
Tumblr media
i do think corriro is a fun name tho, i'm happy with it
but once again, i used the same mysterious reference for elven names. what the fuck is this. anyway, i tried googling what i might have looked for back then, and i think i found exactly that. it was a pikabu (russian reddit basically) post from 10 years ago with a guide on how to make elven names, where op gave a link to their source, which was a post from 2010 made on one of them text roleplaying forums that i used to love so much (i mean i never rped on this one specifically but still the nostalgia)
links for my personal peace of mind:
pikabu post - https://pikabu.ru/story/yelfiyskie_imena_mozhet_komu_interesno_budet_1690760
rp forum - http://elfs.f-rpg.me/viewtopic.php?id=6
still no actual source given to what elven language this all is referencing. tolkien maybe?? idk, but not dragon age's elven that is for sure
and then i found one little note from january 2019, when my canon inquisitor, kehaar, was born, that just listed all my canon names again: ruth, tarjei, kehaar. with no notes on how kehaar's name was made. thanks me
overall, idk if this will help me come up with rook's name. especially since rook would be growing up in rivain, not in ferelden, and not with dalish elves. BUT fun journey
i need to sort my belongings oh my god

hi!! criminology anon here :) i lowkey forgot that i sent a response hahah but hello!!! i've been soo busy with school :') but otherwise i've been good!! i don't regret the long rambles, they're really fun to listen to! and in response to your mock trials in that class, they seem really cool!! eventually i'll get real work experience in my time at university (like i'll be working with local law enforcement on cases). how are you doing? i hope you're doing well!! :) yap session: first off, i'd love to read the paper you wrote for your criminology-related class!! and also, indian and caribbean is an interesting mix!! my mom is white and indigenous and my dad is indian :) THE USERNAME YEAH I CLOCKED THAT IMMEDIATELY i don't speak hindi but my grandma sometimes does and i recognized the word from hearing her say it!! omw to call longlegs lambilegs now hahaha does it happen in a season?: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOUUU for posting the parallels from the fic it was so cool seeing all of them side by side. adding on to how you wrote about seemingly mundane things in the fic, i love books that have "mundane" things in them and have everyone's perspective!! you did a really good job of blending both the romance and the everyday life together!! "i'm afraid of men" isn't available in canadian bookstores? oh damn that's probably why i can't find it hahahah i'm also canadian. i'll definitely have to order it then!! "does it happen in a season?" felt very natural like i could see parts of lee in it that were in the movie and also new parts from her being a young adult. THE RUTH AND LEE MOTHER DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP i love mother-daughter relationships in media <333 and i loved your portrayal of it. ruth is such an important part of lee's life and i love how you integrated her into "does it happen in a season?" and i love hearing maika's perspective on their relationship (honestly i like hearing maika's perspective on the movie as a whole... maybe because i like her voice a bit too much ANYWAYS). back to the "does it happen in a season?" discussion, sharing music is so scary!! i agree with it being scary but all of the music you shared in the series was so perfect!!! and the notes at the end were definitely a great addition to the fic it felt like a good ending to an amazing fic OKAY i felt like this response was all over the place but i hope it's okay :') once again i hope you're doing well and have a nice day/afternoon/night!! - criminology anon 📕
HIIII so I'm gonna reply on text today bc my phone has NOT been cooperating today, and I don't wanna risk it taking a long time to work audios like it did last time ;-; and thank you being so sweet about my long ass audios :") oh, I'm so sorry school has been busy!! have there been any classes or assignments you've enjoyed? OMGGGGG WORKING ON CASES -- THAT'S SO COOL :0 that sounds like such an exciting opportunity, I can't wait for you to dive in. and thank you! I've been doing well -- just been lowkey having an existential crisis about what I wanna do post-uni LMAOOO. and I've been struggling to play catch up on my to-do list, which has made me avoidant, which make things pile up more, so yeah, been trying to break out of that. I had greek history today, and just got home hehe I should do work, but I'm probably gonna write after LOLLL
Tumblr media
okay, so this is a part of that assignment (kind of cringing at how I explained myself, but I was a first year so please bear with me 😭). it turned out that it wasn't a paper, it was essentially an annotated bibliography -- to show our prof our ability to find useful sources, I think. omg that's so cool!! you know, I'm soon gonna start a sevika fic that explores desi culture, and it had me thinking a lot recently about being mixed. like, I was telling my girlfriend about sometimes feeling like I'm not south asian enough, but also not caribbean enough, you know? sometimes feeling like I'm in this middle road, and just feeling not fully immersed in either community. idk, do you ever feel that way? if you're comfy talking about it ofc!! AND OMGGG I'm SO happy you clocked it, I was so curious if anyone would. my family speaks gujarati, but I grew up with bollywood so I know a bit of hindi from that hehe. have you ever wanted to learn hindi? :o
OMGGG OFC I'M SO GLAD YOU LIKED IT <33 awe omg thank you so much :") I'm really happy to hear that, I definitely love writing that romanticizes the mundane, and I try to emulate that a lot in my writing. I think it does such a good job at both helping the writer and reader to internalize and highlight all the lovely little things that exist on a day-to-day basis, you know? kind of creates this bouncing affect where it helps us all grow to admire these things more. I know a lot of youtubers who do that, and they inspired me a lotttt for the fic, hehe (I might actually make a list of them soon :o). AND OH NO, sorry, I meant sunburn isn't in canadian bookstores!! I asked a bookshop in the city my uni is in if it was there, and I remember she told me it's been hard to get the book delivered in bulk to there. I think I'm afraid of men tends to be in independent bookstores, especially those centred on queer and BIPOC voices -- at least from my experience. AND OMGGGG fellow canadian!! I get to so excited when I meet another canadian on tumblr HAHA.
omg, thank you so much!! yeah, I definitely wanted to reflect qualities that I think you see in her adult and child versions in the film, like her independence, observance and artistic sense. but, I also wanted to show her going through the growing pains of other things that I could definitely see her having struggled with as a person in her early twenties. like her queerness, her navigating romantic relationships and kink, etc. and yes yes!! I feel like ruth is such a pivotal person in her life, who has influenced so much of her psyche and socialization, so it was so important for me to show that. I'm so glad you enjoyed it :") and omg which mother-daughter media do you like? I also love it so so much. NO, YOU'RE SO REAL LOL maika has such a velvety, soothing kind of voice, and I also love how expressive she is when explaining the film or lee as a character. and she tends to reveal little unknowns about lee in her interviews, so I get so, so excited watching them. like, there's this twenty-something-interview I still need to watch and wanna make notes on, because it's really just maika and talking about lee and that excites me SO much.
omg I'm so glad you enjoyed the music and the notes :"") literally whenever I added the music, I was like, "omg what will people think of my music taste 🤭" HAHA especially because all those songs came to mean a lot to me due to how I associated them with certain chapters and specific scenes, since a lot of them I pictured playing at a certain moment in the fic hehe
OMGGG no no it's more than okay, I had so much fun reading and responding to it!!! I hope you have an amazing day/night too <333

Incoming Text for John David Washington: (@johndavidwashington):
Dear John David,
I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share an important update regarding our plans and clarify some decisions moving forward.
You might recall our previous discussions, where I mentioned that you would be the first husband of Christina Santini. However, I've since reevaluated this plan, and I've decided that I will be her first husband. This change is driven by the fact that Christina is unmarried, and given her role and responsibilities, it made sense for me to take this step as part of our royal family strategy.
But don’t lose hope, my friend—I’ve crafted a new plan for you, one that ensures your role and legacy within the royal family. You will marry Laura Ruth Harrier (born March 28, 1990), and I envision you two having many children together. After this, I will agree to marry Laura as well, which means all your children with her will have royal titles. Furthermore, those children will become half-siblings to the children I will also have with Laura in the future.
This solution connects your lineage with mine, tying your bloodline directly to the royal family. We’ll all be part of the same family, uniting both of our legacies. You can discuss this matter with Laura and, if she agrees, I am on board with this arrangement.
I know you have a good friendship with Laura—I remember watching your Spike Lee movie a few years back, and it was clear that you two share a strong connection. This plan made sense to me because we’ll be able to collaborate as a team, shaping a unified future. Let’s make sure we’re all on the same page.
As for Christina, I plan to marry her next year in 2025. She will be my first wife and will shoulder significant responsibilities as part of her royal duties. This shift in plans isn’t something I take lightly, but it was necessary given the situation. I hope you understand.
I’ve had to make some tough choices. All my other future wives are currently married, and Christina is the only one unmarried, which made her the most suitable candidate for this role right now.
I encourage you to help Christina and Laura get to know each other—there’s no harm in them building a strong friendship. After all, they’re about the same age, and such a relationship would benefit us all.
Feel free to follow my blog for updates. I write a lot, but don’t let it overwhelm you. Think of it as a card game—there’s a lot of "Poker night vibes" going on. If you read carefully, you’ll notice that many of my blog posts are like a clever card trick. What I write and what’s actually happening behind the scenes can be very different. I often create an illusion for my enemies, showing them one reality while keeping the real situation hidden. You could call it "Pulp Fiction"—a title I’m sure Quentin Tarantino would appreciate.
You might even consider forming a "book club" with friends to go through my older blog posts together. Taylor Swift does something similar—she can’t keep track of everything herself, so her friends help her review it all. They call her whenever they catch a juicy detail she might have missed. My blog is essentially a TV series in written form, and I’d argue there’s nothing quite like it on TV right now.
What makes it unique is the diversity of cultures represented: black culture, Hispanic culture, French culture, Indian culture—all united in one place. This is something completely new, a multi-ethnic royal family leading a multi-ethnic narrative that spans across various cultural backgrounds.
There’s no show like this anywhere on television. What we’re doing with the blog is giving these voices a platform—a channel that unites them all.
I hope this helps you understand the bigger picture. Also, just to be clear, I have no issues with the Kapoor family in India; they are wonderful people. I encourage you to maintain a positive relationship with them as you navigate your own path in India.
Stay well, my friend. Let’s keep building this future together—and remember, stay out of trouble.
Warm regards, Angelo (Crown Prince)

Christina Santini: @santinihoudini
P.S.:
Synopsis of the Letter:
In this letter, Angelo (Crown Prince) updates John David Washington on a change of plans regarding his marriage to Christina Santini. Initially, John David was set to marry Christina, but Angelo has decided to take that role himself due to Christina's single status and upcoming responsibilities as his first wife.
However, Angelo proposes a new plan for John David, suggesting that he marry Laura Harrier, with whom John shares a close friendship. Angelo plans to marry Laura after John, ensuring that their children will have royal titles and be half-siblings to Angelo’s future children with Laura, uniting their bloodlines within the royal family.
Angelo explains the importance of Christina’s role in his life and encourages John to help foster a friendship between Laura and Christina. He also mentions his blog, likening it to a unique multi-ethnic TV series, and suggests John and his friends form a "book club" to explore it. The letter concludes with a reminder for John to maintain good relations with the Kapoor family in India and to stay out of trouble.
Key Instagram handles of John David, Laura Harrier, and Christina Santini are provided at the end.

21st-Century Literary Genres! .☘︎ ݁˖
📜 Literature 101 with SamanthaWritesAboutLit . . .
As technology continues to evolve and transform the world in the 21st century, the ways how people connect also change — and art is not an exception.
Alongside the technologization of communication is the modernization of literature, incorporating it into existing trending media to keep it from dying. The 21st-century readers and writers looked for ways to keep the beauty of art and literature alive amidst technology taking over our lives.
21st-Century Literary Genres! .☘︎ ݁˖
Let me introduce you to some of the many 21st-century literary genres: Talk-Text Novel, Hyper Poetry, and Blog! 🌟
It may be tricky to distinguish which is which and identify them from one another as all use technology and the internet to be published. That is why we are here to discuss the similarities and differences between these three.
❔Let us all first question, what are these three?
💬 Talk-Text Novel
Talk-text novels are stories that are told almost completely in dialogue — simulating social network exchange, using informal language, abbreviations, emojis, timestamps, modern text slang, and sometimes even using the application interface or features. These are presented using visual presentations of the online communication app used. Readers are tasked to interpret the plot and the flow of the story by analyzing the communication that takes place between the characters in the novel.
Some popular text-talk novels are:
“This Moose Belongs to Me” by Oliver Jeffers
“A Chair for My Mother” by Vera B. Williams
“Flight School” by Lita Judge
💌 And to locals who wish to read these genres in our local language, Vince and Kath by Jenny Ruth Almocera is a popular Filipino Talk-text novel that was later on had a movie adaptation. It is an online romantic series that is written entirely in chat conversations or SMS screenshots.
📲 Hyper Poetry
Hyper poetry, also known as “cyber poems” are poetries found online available on a webpage that makes use of hyperlinks. It includes media such as videos, images, websites, or other poems using hyperlinks. The poetry will have links along the way that when clicked will lead the readers to another media. It creates a non-linear reading experience for readers. This incorporated media heightens the meaning or the message being delivered to the readers. It connects creative works on the internet to create another artwork.
Some of the Hyper poetry found on the internet are:
“Firefly” by Jennifer Ley
“The Last Day of Betty Nkomo” by Scott Rettberg
“88 Constellations for Wittfenstein” by David Clark
Examples of Hyper poetry are easy to find on online writing platforms as many writers of today’s society have easy internet access.
🖥️Blog
A blog is an informational web page where writers or individuals can informally or casually share their experiences, ideas, or reviews in the form of writing online. These online writers explore a variety of topics to write about, ranging from lifestyle, different destinations around the world or traveling, food reviews, guidebooks to housekeeping, entertainment, and even literature reviews.
Some popular blogs in the Philippines are:
Panlasang Pinoy: A Filipino cooking blog
YugaTech: A Technlogy blog by Abe Olandres
When In Manila: An entertainment blog about lifestyle and travel
While most popular blogs create their own website to post their content, some apps are already made with well-structured features fit to cater the creative minds of writers. Some of these popular applications are Medium, WordPress, and Tumblr (the one I am using).
🔭 Similarities and Differences ~
Hyper poetry & Blog: can only be read online as it takes advantage of the features of online technology, unlike the text-talk novels that can be printed to a physical book as it only mimics the features of online technology.
Talk-text novels & Hyper poetry: give readers a unique and dynamic reading experience as they make use of the trending features and other existing media on the internet to portray their stories. They are the fusion of classic art of literature combined with the fresh and trendy media of today’s internet.
Talk-text novel & Blog: very engaging to the readers as the language used is casual and informal like the ones used in our everyday lives. This easily captures the reader’s attention and engagement as it is easier to relate to and does not require deep dissection.
── .✦ 🖇️

WEEK 4 DISCUSSION#: REALITY TV CASE STUDY
The reading topic for Week 4 is "Reality Television in an Age of Social Media" by Ruth A. Deller, published in 2019. In this week's post, I will address two primary ideas:
Impact of Memes and GIFs on Reality TV Shows
Reality TV and political talk in the public sphere
Part 1: Impact of Memes and GIFs on Reality TV Shows
Animated GIFs are becoming increasingly significant on social media platforms since they serve to disseminate up-to-the-minute news, convey narratives through visual journalism, and offer novel means of expressing emotions. Furthermore, they are extensively utilized as visual memes, wherein a film or amalgamation of photos is compiled and frequently disseminated on social networks (Bakhshi et al., 2016). For instance, Tumblr, being a visually-oriented blogging social site, has emerged as a significant medium for the utilization of GIFs.
Comprehending memes and GIFs necessitates systematic analysis and the application of discursive theories due to their intricate layers of meaning (Wagener, 2021). By means of replication, the initial meme transforms into a cited and modified reference text as it circulates, a phenomenon referred to as intertextuality. Intertextuality refers to the linguistic and semiotic process in which the meaning of a text, whether it be an image or a phrase, is altered, broadened, or diminished by merging it with other texts (Zanette, Blikstein và Visconti 2019: 160–161). Simultaneously, memes and GIFs showcase interdiscursivity by integrating several linguistic conventions (Jorgensen & Phillips 2002). Memes and GIFs can influence power dynamics in social interactions (Flammia & Saunders, 2007) and serve as instruments for political and economic entities to communicate ideas through innovative and unique material. Thus, from a certain standpoint, they are prone to being influenced, controlled, and are not stable.
Memes and GIFs have become integral to mainstream culture, being widely shared and appreciated by a diverse audience. Consequently, they also facilitate the development of robust interactions among virtual communities (Goriunova, 2014). When an individual shares a meme and receives positive replies on social networking platforms, it indicates acceptance and approval from the community. Memes foster the formation of tiny communities and facilitate the establishment of relationships by uniting individuals. Memes foster digital connectivity among individuals (Amir, 2021).
Undoubtedly, the capacity to easily post memes and GIFs will undoubtedly lead to a rise in viewing, as individuals who may not have initially watched the show will be enticed by the online discourse. During the broadcast of episodes, viewers are inclined to participate in immediate discussions on social media platforms, fostering a sense of community centered around the show. Online communities flourish through the sharing of these visual fragments, generating a sense of kinship among enthusiasts. Reality TV shows can utilize famous memes and GIFs to enhance their branding and capitalize on sales potential. According to the reading from week 4 (Reality Television in an Age of Social Media), memes like this provide a lasting and extended existence to moments, surpassing the limited period of the shows themselves (Deller, 2019).
Part 2: Reality TV and political talk in the public sphere
While the majority of research has focused on politically oriented or news-related areas, this reading emphasizes the significance of investigating communication platforms centered around reality TV entertainment.
These often neglected areas play a significant role in the informal talks that make up the public sphere. They are particularly important in an era of decentralized politics, where there are changes in the way individuals interact with old systems (Dahlberg, 2001). Popular entertainment platforms, such as reality TV programs, play a significant role in the public sphere by promoting and encouraging everyday political discussions. According to additional reading of week 4 (Reality TV as a trigger of everyday political talk in the net-based public sphere by Todd Graham and Auli Hajru in 2011) these platforms facilitate mutual understanding and contribute to an engaged and effective citizenry (Graham & Hajru, 2011).
The examination of reality TV programs like Big Brother and Wife Swap demonstrates that political discourse is a prevalent and unrestricted component within these environments, highlighting its pivotal function in the public sphere. The initial focus of the discussions revolved around reality TV, but gradually, participants began to delve into political discourse by drawing connections between their knowledge, identities, and experiences and larger societal matters (Graham & Hajru, 2011). The conversations encompassed more than just traditional political matters, as they were frequently influenced by the members' lifestyles and personal stories. In both Big Brother and Wife Swap, the catalysts for political discussions were comparable, with actions playing a central role. The discussions frequently centered on morality and ethical standards, with participants assuming authoritative roles in determining what was deemed morally correct or incorrect (Graham & Hajru, 2011).
Reality TV serves as a catalyst for meaningful discussions among the public, as viewers relate their personal experiences and viewpoints to larger societal matters (Graham & Hajru, 2011). The genre, known for its emphasis on authentic settings and interpersonal relationships, encourages viewers to contemplate the broader societal ramifications of these scenarios. Reality TV-related social media sites offer alternate arenas for political discussion (McCargo, 20009).
These forums provide a means for viewers who typically do not participate in political discussions to find a way to get involved. The casual character of these debates fosters the articulation of thoughts and perspectives that may not arise in more formal political arenas. Although not specifically designed for official decision-making, these discussions enhance people' awareness, knowledge, and mutual comprehension. This is consistent with the broader definition of politics, which includes the involvement of civil society and citizens in matters that are not strictly political. Ultimately, reality TV, by captivating people and offering a glimpse into real-life events, becomes a potent catalyst for everyday political discourse in the online public sphere. It functions as an intermediary connecting entertainment and political involvement, promoting varied discussions and enhancing the democratic dialogue in online platforms.
