one of the curious things about being one of the two main content devs in the past year of an open source project is having to go clean up the half-done efforts of other devs' given projects. decoupling transformation magic from spellcasting into various talismans did make it so many more character builds can access transformations than prior, but by tossing out the prior connections to other schools of magic it also left a relatively plain set of transformations rather isolated and singular in its progression. having every troll and octopus end up aiming to become storms and statues is substantially less varied than earthshapers and weather witches of all sorts possibly dabble into the corresponding [earth | air] + transmutations form.
after a lot of brainstorming with my partner about the needs of variety and with the makeshift art compositing capacity I've picked up, actually coming up with enough forms to provide reasonable spread-out options then clashes strangely with the need to match the prior species-
-resulting in the absurdity of depicting a spine-coated cephalopod, a two-headed snake with cat ears, or vampire and werewolf armadillo-taurs. it does mean, also, in comparison to That Other Roguelike's permitting immense bodyhacking for a steadfastly genderless player-perspective, a character can actually divest experience towards transitioning into a traditionally-feminine mythological feline with a chest and an armoured skirt. who knows how popular that'll be compared to becoming a walking hive, though?
(will still need to get volunteer artists to cover a few remaining things- no compositing really will get a werewolf cat- but it's not too bad for preliminary art compared to other programmer-art.)

J:known as Mr.J, J-san, or ossan
The exhstray boss cat found by the landlady appeared from under the floor if her house the end of Feb.2015, and got a housecat after 5 months feeding. He is good at escaping, so he can escape from the cat cage by himself. Futhermore, he sometimes make the staffs of the vet upset because he can escape also the cat carry bag.
He is doubted that there is a dog inside him because he can communicate with his landlady quite well and come when she calls him. His favourite food is fish, especially sashimi and bonito flakes, but he also loves natto these days. And he's also doubted as a new kind of sheep like a cats because he loves eating grass so much.
His nature is quite grumpy and wants to keep his territory, so he patrols around the house many times a day. If he finds the strange smell he doesn't like, he tries to go out by breaking the house, but he doesn't care other kinds of animals, such tanuki or badgers. So it isn't sure he's a good guardian cat or not.
And he is sometimes called as an imposter of a little kitty as he often makes others surprised from the cat carry by his high tone voice.

harrowclare's 2024 reading list
here is the long, long list of my 2024 reads with ratings & dates. because of tumblr's limit on links, i cannot direct to individual reviews. if you would like to view my reviews on their respective sites, you can find them on thestorygraph & goodreads.
dates are listed as month, day. manga volumes that are binged will be grouped so that this list isn't a million miles long, with the range of ratings for the volumes in the stack. a few of these titles were started in 2023, lol whoops! those are the only dates with a year stamp.
wanna read along or chat with me about books? i'm super active on fable.
reading challenges: horror bingo reaading challenge (2024-2025)

🩵🩷🤍Happy Trans Day of Visibility! 🤍🩷🩵
Did you know yall have a whole sub category in Thompson's Motif-Index of Folk-Literature?
Here are some others:
Some for genderfluid folks:
Here's some motifs for the silly transphobes:
And finally here's some (mostly joking ones) for transitioning:
Stay legendary!
#for the record a lot of these are using a literal interpretation of the titles#not necessarily what the actual motif is referring to in the tales#but its fun!#more info in my pinned post for those who are curious#also the index is kinda old (1958) so the definitions and concepts of terms are gonna be different from how we use them today#the word “gender” does not show up once hence the focus on physical stuff#trans visibility#tdov 2025#trans day of visibility#trans pride#transgender#genderfluid#transition#thompson motif index of folk literature#folktale motifs#compilation#A. "creepy-cute" is generally referring to "kawaii"-type cute, but i think it would be nice to refer to "moe" type cute instead, or at least in addition.

Apparently letting horrible things sting or bite you is not an unusual method of research among entomologists. The University of Arkansas had William J. Baerg who focused on spiders and other venomous arthropods (centipedes, etc.)
Baerg's the reason we know that tarantula bites are about as dangerous as a bee sting. He also proved conclusively that Black Widows are not only venomous, but if you get a big enough dose, it will fuck you up:
Since the first test went so well, and the rats seemed to develop an immunity fairly quickly, Baerg decided to repeat the experiment the next day. This time, things didn't go so well. The spider bit deeper, for longer, and probably injected a lot more venom. Baerg was, however, both a scientist and an optimist, and here's how he described it in the article he wrote about the tests (emphasis added by me): The fangs were allowed to remain inserted for about five seconds, and during this time the pain which when the fangs entered was rather faint, increased rapidly, presumably produced by the poison rather than by the fangs. The results, from the point of view of the investigator, were all that could be desired. I will remind you that Baerg himself was the investigator. So, he let the spider bite him at 8:25am on July 10th, 1923. The pain was minor at first but increased rapidly. Then it spread. Everywhere. His arm, his chest, his hips, his legs, his toes, his head. He had trouble breathing and couldn't keep food down. He didn't manage to get any sleep for the first 28 hours, and didn't manage more than a nap until the night of the 11th, when he was plagued by delirium and nightmares. He spent almost three full days in the hospital. Even after he left the hospital, it was still another full day before he was well enough to work. The pain was gone from most of his body by the 13th, but the pain in his hand persisted for a few days longer, and there was an itchiness that stayed for almost a week. His body temperature fluctuated fairly wildly for more than a month, although he claimed he wouldn't have known if he hadn't been taking it, since there were no associated symptoms.

this from the guy who wrote the sting pain index, a scale he constructed after letting himself be stung by insects
