Hey guys. I'm just hopping on here to address something serious. I've always been 100% transparent with all of you, and as much as this is a difficult conversation to have, I cannot go about my day to day life in good conscious knowing I wasn't being honest. So, as embarrassing as this is to reveal, here it is....

....I think I have a problem.

Annoyed by the clown, but don't have uBlock/ghostery/etc?
If you check tumblr on a computer where you're not allowed to have an adblocker for some reason, you can still remove the clown.
Right click on the clown and choose "Inspect."
This will open a screen that shows the HTML and such for the webpage. It will be highlighting the line related to what you right-clicked (in this case the clown).
But you can double-check by running your mouse over different lines to find the one that is the clown.
Right click on the highlighted line (or other clown line).
Choose "Hide Element."
And the clown goes bye-bye.

How to Inspect Used Brewery Equipment Before Purchase?
Buying used brewery equipment can be a smart and cost-effective decision for breweries looking to save money. However, ensuring the equipment is in good condition is essential to avoid unexpected expenses or operational setbacks. Proper inspection helps you assess the value and functionality of the machinery, ensuring it meets your needs. Here’s a guide to inspecting used brewery equipment before purchase.
Assess the Equipment’s Condition
Begin with a visual inspection of the equipment. Look for any signs of wear and tear, such as dents, cracks, rust, or corrosion. These can indicate how well the equipment has been maintained and whether it will require immediate repairs. Pay special attention to areas exposed to moisture or chemicals, as these are more prone to damage in brewery operations.
Check for Cleanliness
Brewery equipment must meet high cleanliness standards to ensure the quality of your beer. Examine the interior surfaces of tanks, kettles, and fermenters for residue, discoloration, or mold. Clean equipment is not only essential for sanitation but also indicates the previous owner's attention to maintenance.
Test Moving Parts
Inspect all moving parts, such as pumps, agitators, and valves, to ensure they function smoothly. Listen for unusual noises or vibrations, which can signal underlying mechanical issues. Check that seals, gaskets, and connections are intact and free of leaks, as these components are critical for maintaining pressure and preventing contamination.
Review Maintenance Records
Ask the seller for maintenance logs or service history. These records provide insight into how the equipment was cared for and whether it has undergone routine maintenance or major repairs. Equipment with a well-documented history is more likely to be reliable.
Evaluate Compatibility
Ensure the used brewery equipment you plan to buy is compatible with your existing setup. Consider factors such as size, power requirements, and capacity. For example, make sure the equipment fits within your brewery space and can handle your production volume without strain.
Conduct a Functional Test
Whenever possible, see the equipment in action before committing to the purchase. A functional test allows you to confirm that all components work as intended and that the equipment operates efficiently. If an in-person test isn’t possible, request a video demonstration from the seller.
Check for Spare Parts Availability
Research whether spare parts are readily available for the specific make and model. Used equipment, especially older models, may require replacement parts for maintenance. Equipment with readily available parts is easier and cheaper to maintain.
Verify Seller Credentials
Ensure the seller is reputable. Check reviews, ask for references, and verify the authenticity of their business. Working with a reliable seller reduces the risk of purchasing equipment with hidden flaws.
Negotiate Terms and Warranties
While most used equipment is sold as-is, some sellers may offer limited warranties or guarantees. Negotiate terms to include a warranty or trial period whenever possible. This provides added security for your investment.
Conclusion
Inspecting used brewery equipment thoroughly is crucial to ensure a successful purchase. By checking its condition, cleanliness, compatibility, and functionality, you can minimize risks and maximize the value of your investment. Whether you’re a startup or an established brewery, taking the time to inspect before you buy used brewery equipment can help you secure reliable machinery that supports your brewing goals.
