I READ CAGED LUNGS WHILE AWAY FROM HOME AND HAD NO ONE TO SCREAM ABOUT IT TO AND I'M DESPERATE SO I'M SORRY HOPE THIS ASK IS OKAY (just finished miner's eulogy lol)

The way I BINGED READ THAT FIC ON A FLIGHT. Stayed up to 2am in my hotel finishing it going WTF DID I READ. The. Ending. I remember screaming at my bestie over dms over the ambiguous ending (I didn't check that there was a sequel yet). As a stand alone, caged lungs is incredibly soul crushing. Hurt No Comfort. ACK. It's so horrible!! /pos

Caged Lungs stands out to me as one of the few rise fics that depicts abuse from the hands of family/loved ones as opposed to villains. Which is eugh boy. A really painful read. My previous fandom was the MCU, so I actually have read a lot of fics like this and its something I was sorely missing now that I only read rise fics. (@/cupcakeslushie's kendratello comic is the only other fanwork i know that scratches that painful itch, albeit its quite not the same.) It was pure coincidence that I stumbled upon caged lungs during a time when I was feeling particularly nostalgic for these types of fics. Just gonna drop a screenshot of a dm I sent the bestie midway through reading it,

I know people talk about the closet scene, but my most painful scene that nearly got me to take a break was the family meeting where all the bros just...verbally gang up on him. They were not evil, they were just...mean. And that to me hurt so much in a really specific way that I can't describe compared to the other horrific things they did. Perhaps bc it was so...normal in the grand scheme of things.

But ya, glad you gave it a chance and enjoyed it! :] Was going to direct you to @qoldenskies blog since I'm sure he would love to hear your thoughts on his fic, but it seems you've already invaded his ask box ;]

Caged Lungs is great, and if anyone is able to stomach it, I highly recommend it to anyone who loves donnie angst. There's a reason I agreed with that anon ask for it being the ultimate donnie angst fic.
