"yeah, i think it would be beneficial to us both." she would be able to experience what it means to work for the daily charme and he would have an extra pair of eyes and ears. "do you know any other languages? my japanese is minimum but we will have a translator accompanying us as well." things with his translator were currently strained after having an illicit affair during their last trip. aimi's husband found out about the cheating but doesn't know it was with her boss. "i usually stay at the hoshino hotel so book three rooms there. the works of course. there will be plenty of time to explore and pamper in between. all work and no play doesn't just make jill and jack dull, it kills the potential of discovery."

"I can handle anything." She was ambitious, determined. Olivia strived to do a good job, to impress her superiors with her work ethic. She was more than just some pretty blonde girl, and worked hard to prove that every day. Olivia was happy he agreed to let her sit in on meetings. She had always been curious what gets said in those and what she could learn. "Japan? You want me to go to Japan with you?" She had never traveled out of the states before, but she did get her passport when she got the job like he instructed. "Okay. I'll book the trip right away."

"yeah, real work. if you think you can handle it." kaleb was all for opportunities. his father taught him that character was built through trial and error. olivia wasn't going to get anywhere sitting behind a monitor and running errands all day. he wanted to see what she was really made of. "that's a good place to start." he nods, impressed with her immediate response. it showed that she'd been visualizing something more. "consider it done. i also need you to book me a flight to japan. i have business there and i was thinking you could accompany me? we would be leaving next week for three days."

Olivia sighed, shrugging her shoulders. So far she had only introduced herself to a couple people. Being his assistant meant she was busy all day long, running to the copier, sending emails, making phone calls. So she hadn't had a lot of time to chit chat. But the couple people she had met they had been polite, didn't tell her to fuck off so there's that. "You mean like real work?" She sent the last email and logged out of her email, pushing his chair back so she could get up. But she stayed seated while she thought about it. "Can I sit in on meetings? I'd like to learn more about writing and reporting, maybe I could take notes if you get me a laptop. I'm fast at typing I can type while people talk."

"really nice?" he snorts, trying to keep himself from laughing out loud. there was no way everyone was being cordial and friendly. the paper was a highly competitive and cutthroat business. "you know, i wouldn't have judged you if you said they were all stuck up, pretentious snobs. that's what i think." he smirks, pushing his tongue against the back of his teeth. "but i get it, you're the new girl. fresh meat. little fish should learn their way around the ocean before picking fights with sharks. but i have no doubt you'll earn your teeth. which is why i want to extend a proposal. is there anything you would like to do beyond sending emails on time?"

She could feel him staring down at her. Olivia started squirming in her seat, just the feeling a little unnerving. Was he doing this on purpose? Trying to get a rise out of her? Was this another one of this lessons he wanted to embark on her? Looking up at him, she did let out a long breath like as if she had been holding one. He made her nervous, too nervous. Never knowing what was going to come next from him. "Okay, thank you." She gave a polite smile, turning back to the computer screen to finish typing. "Everyone seems really nice here. I haven't had any issues."

kaleb presses his palms above the desk and leans in, watching as she dials Fenix's number. he ignores her comment about being on time, he knows. nothing happens at the paper that he doesn't know about. he listens in on each call, his eyes never leaving her. she has to be willing to work under pressure. she'll thank him for it someday. "you're not in any trouble, miss blake. you can exhale that breath you've been holding." he finally cracks a smile, amused with himself. "you're not going to get fired for using my computer, but i'll get you your own emergency laptop in case anything like this ever happens again." he takes a seat at the edge of the desk and peers down, watching her work. "how are you getting along with everyone else?"

She felt like she was getting whiplash. Olivia thought he wanted her out of her office, but now he was telling her to keep working. Which was it? "I am never late, sir. I always make sure my work is completed on time." Olivia reassured him. She thought she was proving to be a big help to him. Grabbing the phone from his desk, she dialed the number for Fenix and requested his help with the computer. Once she was done with that she called IT and cancelled the appointment. "I'll be fast at these emails and be out of your office in ten minutes." She promised, looking back up at him. "Won't happen again."

"go ahead and send them." kaleb places his hands on the armrests of the chair and lifts himself back to his feet. his walk toward her is slow and purposeful. being warm and friendly wasn't a part of who he is or how he wishes to run his paper. he was raised to be a ruthless tyrant by his father who was as equally sociopathic. "things shouldn't be late, miss blake. empires aren't built by procrastinating. the moment we slow down is the moment someone else gets ahead. you're an ambitious woman, surely you can understand that?"
Tumblr media
Olivia was typing the next email, her delicate fingers tapping away at the keyboard. One thing she always strived in was that she was a very fast at typing. Stopping as he said to cancel the appointment, she grabbed a sticky note and wrote down a to do list, cancel the appointment and call some guy named Fenix. "Got it." She nodded, looking in the contact book and writing out the number to call. Looking as her boss sat across from her, her brows furrowed as she felt she was in trouble. "Okay..." She wanted to say something but felt it best not to since he could fire her. "I still have two more emails to send, but I can wait until my computer is fixed if it's okay with you if they're sent a little late."

kaleb's eyes narrow suspiciously, never one to fall for someone's portrayal of innocence. it doesn't matter how blonde or porcelain they appear, he'll always look for the monster in them. for every angel there's also a devil. "i don't want IT snooping around the office. cancel that appointment. in my contact book you'll find a fenix nascosto. let him look at your computer." rather than taking his desk back, he takes a seat across from her, examining her behavior like a hunter tracking its prey. "you know, i chose you out of dozens of other applicants. you're ambitious. perhaps a little too ambitious. no more trips to my desk."
Tumblr media
Olivia looked up, not even realizing he was at the office yet. As the rosy tint graced her cheeks, she looked back at the screen. "I'm not trying to own the place. My computer is not working at my desk and you said these emails need to be sent before 9. But I've called IT to come look at it."
