"Would you keep still? It'll take me like two seconds to get this bandage on if you stop moving," she lightly complained in a whisper. Ellie was attempting to be stern, though it was clear she was struggling to hold back a smile as the corners of her lips turned up and the dimples formed in her cheeks.

She'd met up with Peter at the library to work on their project from one of their college courses and they had two more days left before the assignment was due. They'd made great progress the past couple of days, so when Peter showed up to their meeting with a decently sized cut, she wasn't distracted by the work and was quick to offer up an alcohol wipe and bandaid.

Given her own past, she wasn't one to hound someone about how they got their cuts and scrapes, but that didn't mean she wasn't curious. She refrained from asking for now. Due to experience, she'd also gotten in the habit of keeping a simple first aid kit in her backpack at all times.

mj had done nothing to deserve his anger, but he couldn't open his lips to apologize either, the words lodged in his throat. it was better this way, he told himself. if she thought she wasn't wanted, if she blamed him for the destruction of whatever this was, then they could forget about him, and he'd be alone.

“You’re thinking too loudly.”

You remained silent as you gently wiped away the dried blood from the gash on his shoulder. You hadn’t said much to him since he came home but that didn’t stop you from taking care of him. You always took care of him, that had never been a question. 

When you were done patching him all up, you moved to rinse out the blood from the washcloth under the hot water, watching as the water went from crimson to clear. You felt his eyes on you the entire time. 

“I don’t think you want to hear what I’m thinking, Peter,” you caught his eye in the mirror, a heavy frown on your features that caused him to hang his head with a heavy sigh. You turned to leave the bathroom, but he caught your wrist, fingers wrapping delicately onto your soft skin, “Peter. I just want to go to bed. Please.”

“Tell me,” he insisted softly as you closed your eyes and sighed heavily, “whatever it is, just let me hear it.”

“Fine,” you turned around and faced him; Peter could see that your eyes were already wet with unshed tears, “fine - you want to know what I’m thinking? I’m thinking that…you need to slow down, Peter. You keep coming home hurt and it’s only been getting worse lately. I know it’s selfish to say but do you know how hard it is to see you like that? I…you have Miles - New York has Miles. He can handle himself and he can and will ask for help if he needs it. But maybe it’s time to let him do more and you can…just slow down a little. I just want to know that you’re going to come home and that you’re going to come home alive.”

“I am Spider-Man,” his lips were drawn into a harsh line as he narrowed his eyes at you, “I can’t just slow down. And I can’t just leave Miles with everything, he’s still young, and he’s still learning. This is who I am.”

“You were young once too and there was no one around to help,” you reminded him, “and you were okay. He has you and he’s a smart kid; there are things he can handle. I’m not saying that you can’t or shouldn’t be Spider-Man, Pete. I would never say that.”

“Then why are you saying anything?” he stared at the ceiling for a moment before groaning lightly, “you don’t know what it’s like. You don’t get that I can’t just walk away from this.”

“You’re right,” you’d pulled back slightly from the harsh tone in his voice; he’d never talked to you in such a harsh tone before, “I don’t know what it's like. But I do know what it’s like to love you and I know how hard it is to watch you work yourself into the ground - it’s absolutely horrible. It’s just…we’re not getting younger, Pete. We’ve talked about getting married and starting our family - how are we going to do that when you’re gone so often and hurt?”

“You don’t…” he ran his hands over his tired face in exasperation, “I don’t think you realize what you’re asking for. I’m fine. If it’s just because you don’t want to deal with me anymore, just say it.”

“That’s not what I’m saying at all,” you angrily swiped away the tears that rolled down your cheeks, “I love you, Peter. I want a future with you, but I can’t have that if you’re not around for it! Maybe it’s still hard for you to accept that people care about you and only want the best for you. You take care of everyone else, but you have to let people take care of you too.”

“If I needed someone to take care of me, I would say something,” he hissed softly, “I’m fine, everything is fine. If you’ve got such a problem with it then maybe…maybe we shouldn’t be together then.”

Your mouth dropped open from the sheer shock of what he had just said. Something was going on with Peter, even if he wasn’t willing to admit to it. You gnawed on your cheek in order to keep from crying or making any sort of sound. You held up your hands in defeat and walked into the bedroom. Without even thinking about it, you went to the closet and grabbed out a duffle bag and started piling in some clothes, not paying attention to what was getting thrown into the bag. 

“I think I’m going to leave and give you space for a bit. We’re not going to figure anything out right now,” you whispered in a broken tone. Peter’s stomach lurched as he watched you pack; how did things escalate so quickly? He wanted to take it all back; he wished he would rewind the last half hour. 

“Don’t go,” he tried to stop you gently but you shook your head, “honey.”

“I don’t want to fight,” your voice was so gentle that he might not even have heard it if it was not for his enhanced senses. Peter sat down on the edge of the bed and watched you pack, feeling helpless and pathetic. He shouldn’t ever have talked to you that way. He was stupid. Stupid.

“Where are you going to go?”

“I don’t know,” you admitted, “I’ll see if I can stay with MJ or Harry or something. Don’t worry about it, Peter. It's fine."

He fell into silence as he watched you pack your necessities without any rhyme or reason. You really just wanted to get out of there and away from him; that killed him.

Once your bag was packed, you paused in the doorway and turned to give him one last look. The corner of your mouth pulled up into a sad little smile, but the light never reached your eyes. He gave you a small nod but neither of you said anything. 

He listened to your footsteps as you left the house and got into your car. Peter had really fucked up now.

“You wanna tell me why your girlfriend’s been staying with MJ for the past couple of days?” Miles turned his face away and busied himself with fiddling on the sleeve of his suit. He’d noticed that Peter had been in a mood lately and then he saw you at MJ’s when he went to pick something up from her. Miles was a smart kid and it wasn’t long before he put the pieces together. He was just curious - and concerned - about Peter. He’d never seen him down like this before and he hated it, “j-just curious.”

“Miles,” he yanked the mask off his face and leaned against the door. The two of them were on a random rooftop, keeping an eye on things despite the quiet night. He turned to face the younger man and Miles could see how tired and run down he looked, “it’s…been a lot.”

“You don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to, but you can talk to me Pete,” he nudged his arm and offered him a meek smile. Peter had been there for him for so long and through so many hard times he wanted him to know that he was there for him as well, “but if you ever need someone to talk to…”

“Thanks Miles,” he reached over and gave the boy’s shoulder a squeeze, “I don’t want you to worry about me.”

“Pete,” Miles hopped onto his feet and crossed his arms over his chest, "I'm going to worry even if you say not to."

"You're a good kid," he offered his protégé a half smile.

"I'm not a kid anymore," Miles huffed in response, "and you're getting old."

He half expected a laugh to come from the older man; instead all he heard was a small huff seemingly in agreement. Peter paused for a moment before meeting Miles' eyes, "that's the problem, isn’t it?”

"Whaddaya mean?" all sorts of bad thoughts crossed his mind. What if Peter was sick? Or something bad happened? What if-

"I know I'm getting older and things are different than they used to be," he leaned his back against the wall before whispering your name, "she brought it up the other day - that I'm not getting any younger and that I should…let go a little bit. I didn't take it well and we got into an argument and I said dumb things I shouldn't have."

"She's not wrong," Miles sat down in front of Peter and shrugged, "I mean it, its the same for me too. She just wants you around more, Pete. She’s put up with your ass for so long now. Have you apologized for what happened?"

 "No," he grimaced, "I haven't. I don't know what to say. I mean, I basically told her we should break up. I didn't mean it."

"Of course you didn't," he snored in amusement, "you're disgustingly in love."

Peter smiled at that; it was true after all. You were the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life, he wanted everything with you, "I just don't know what to say. Or even if she'd want to listen. Maybe she's done with me."

"You're so stupid," Miles scoffed as Peter couldn't help the bark of laughter that escaped him, "she's not breaking up with you. She's just waiting for you to get your head out of your ass."

"Yeah?" Peter wanted to believe Miles was right, desperately so, because he couldn't imagine a life without you. That was not a life he wanted in any way.

"Parker," the younger spider stood back up and pulled the mask over his face, "get up and let's move. You're getting too pathetic for me."

"Yeah, yeah," he watched as Miles jumped off the roof, moving to follow suit. His body was more tired and stiff today; it was like everything you had lovingly pointed out was slowly coming to light. Peter sighed softly at the thought before concealing his identity again. 

He followed after Miles, a million thoughts swirling in his mind. At the end of it all, they all came back to you.

"You've been moping around for days now," MJ wasn't wrong. You'd shown up at her apartment in the late night hours after your fight with Peter and she'd welcomed you without hesitation. Although only small details of what happened had come to light, Mary Jane Watson was a smart woman and had more or less put the pieces together, "are you either going to tell me the whole story or just continue being sad?"

"Shut up," you groaned playfully, throwing the big couch blanket over your face, "its nothing."

"I know you, and Pete, and you're both terrible liars," MJ pulled the blanket away, a knowing little look on her face. You pulled your knees up to your chest and rested your chin on top of them before letting out a sound somewhere between a groan and a sigh, “c’mon. What’s wrong?”

“Pete and I had a fight and it got a little heated,” you confessed, “he came home hurt and I was upset and it just…turned out all wrong. I told him that I hated seeing him hurt and that I thought maybe he should consider slowing down his…duties a little bit. He didn’t take it well.”

“I’m sure it was just the moment,” she always had this calming aura around her and you already felt a tiny bit better, “it’s not like Pete to argue or…be mean.”

“I know,” you could count the number of times the two of you had what you would consider an actual argument on one hand, “I think it just went a little far and I’d thought it was best to give him some distance. He…umm, and I know he didn’t mean it but he said that if I wasn’t okay with him being Spider-Man then maybe we should break up.”

“He actually said that?” her brow furrowed as you nodded meekly, “that’s not like him…but you know he didn’t mean it.”

“I know,” you sure hoped it was true anyway, “it’s just because I care about him, you know? We’ve talked about maybe starting to grow our family and I just wonder how he’s going to handle everything he normally does on top of having a baby. Plus, I hate seeing him get hurt and so exhausted all the time. I don’t want to take anything away from him, I just want him. I want him home and safe and cared for. And I hate the idea that he thinks I’d ever want him to stop being Spider-Man.”

“If he has any sense he’ll know that,” the redhead promised, “it might just take a minute for him to catch up. He is a man after all.”

At that you laughed, a full and true laugh that you hadn’t experienced in what felt like ever. You’d give Peter his space, but you hoped that at the end of the day he would come home to you, or rather, you would go home to him.

You almost jumped out of your seat at the kitchen table when you heard the loud and heavy knocking at the door. Scrambling out of the chair you darted to the door and peeked into the hallway to see who was at the door. To your surprise, you found a very anxious Peter Parker standing there. Your heart skipped a few beats as you hesitated on whether or not to open the door.

“I know you’re there,” he said softly, “I can hear your heartbeat.”

"What are you doing here, Peter?" You kept the mostly shut, leaving just enough room for you to poke your head out. It had been almost a week since you'd seen him and he didn't look much better than when you'd left. Your expression softened, any residual anger melting away. You could never stay mad at him.

"I wanted to talk to you," he almost choked on his words as he allowed himself to steal a peek at you, "and I want you to come home."

Home. The house that was one May Parker's was now his - yours. Together you had taken the good old memories and made even more of your own. You loved it there, and you loved it even more with Peter. 

“I think we should talk before we make any decisions,” part of you wanted to jump into his arms and squeeze the life out of him and kiss him and everything, but you didn’t. Instead you opened the door a little wider and motioned for him to come inside; MJ was out but you figured she wouldn’t care.

“I love you,” he blurted out before he even stepped inside, his cheeks turning a subtle shade of pink. Your mouth opened in surprise but you couldn’t deny the fact that it warmed your heart. There were still bits and pieces of the boy you’d fallen in love with so many times under there. 

“I love you too, Pete,” you motioned for him to follow you as you walked into the living room, taking a seat on the couch across from him. He sat down slowly, hesitantly, trying to get a read on you. But you had your best poker face on and weren’t showing your cards in the slightest, “you know that no matter what, I’ll always love you.”

His shoulders shagged with relief at your revelation; not that he had really doubted that but sometimes reassurance was needed. He nervously played with his hands, trying to gather his words; he had so much to say but wasn’t sure if he could manage to get it all out. He opened and closed his mouth a few times, and you reached over to give his hands a small squeeze. 

“It’s okay,” you whispered, “just talk to me.”

“I’m sorry for how I acted that night,” he whispered, “I shouldn’t have talked to you like that. I didn’t mean it when I said I thought that maybe we should break up. I don’t want to break up - I want you.”

“I hope you know that I never want anything but the very best for you,” he closed his eyes and nodded gently. Of course he knew that, you’d never given any reason to doubt that, “I never wanted to upset you, Pete.”

“I know,” he swallowed, a thick lump welling up in his throat, “I’ve always known that. It’s just that…I don’t know if I can just slow down and leave Spider-Man behind.”

“Peter,” you moved closer to him, your voice so soft and gentle that it almost made him cry, “slowing down doesn’t mean you’re leaving Spider-Man behind. You’re always going to be Spider-Man, nothing is going to change that. But it’s okay to let go a little and trust that Miles will be there for the city. And maybe some else in the future, maybe a whole gang of spiders. But you’ve been doing this for a long time, Peter. You deserve to rest too, you know.”

He looked up at you, teary-eyed and you couldn’t help but wrap your arms around him, hugging onto him tightly; had the hug been reversed he would have probably crushed you but you wanted him to know how much you loved him, “I’m sorry.”

He melted into your arms, nuzzling his face into your neck, his breathing growing ragged. You rubbed his back soothingly, murmuring sweet nothings into his ear. His tears soaked into the cotton of your shirt but it didn’t matter at all to you -  all you wanted was for him to know he was loved and safe. 

After a while of holding him you pulled yourself out of his tight grasp and took his face in your hands, brushing away the drying tears on his face, “hey, it’s alright. I’ve got you. I’m not forcing you to do anything, I’m just giving you my opinion of what I’m seeing. Ultimately, it’s up to you, Pete. But you have to take care of yourself too. Will you at least try that? If not for you, I’ll be selfish and ask you to do it for me.”

“I will,” he turned his face so he could place a kiss into the palm of your hand, “I do want to marry you a-and start our family. Like we’ve always talked about.”

The way your eyes lit up was enough to indicate to him that whatever decisions he made or steps he took to make that future a reality would be worth it. You were worth it. You leaned in and kissed him tenderly, “yeah?”

“Yeah,” he promised, “I think you’re right about what you said and I think deep down I’ve known it too. It’s just so hard to admit it in a way.”

“It’s not saying goodbye,” you reminded him, “it’s just slowing down a little bit and taking moments for yourself.”

“I’ll work on it,” he decided it was a vow that he was going to keep it, “but if I’m ever an idiot, just remind me that I’m an idiot.”

“I have no problem with that,” you grinned excitedly, “my sweet Spider.”

“And I’m sorry,” he ran his hands up and down your sides, squeezing them gently, “really. For the things I said and how I acted. I shouldn’t have lashed out like that at you.”

“Apology accepted,” you took his hands in yours and held them tightly in turn, “thank you.”

“Will you come home?” he was nervous to ask but all he wanted was for you to be back home with him; it felt so strange and foreign without, “I-I understand if you don’t want right now but-”

“Of course,” you cut him off with a finger to his lips, “I want to come home. Plus, I think MJ will be glad to get rid of me moping around all the time. I missed you a lot, Pete.”

“I missed you so much,” he crushed you to his chest, causing you to laugh softly, “I can’t wait to have you back. I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together.”

“Me too, Pete,” you burrowed yourself into his warm body as much as you could. You were already home. Peter would always be your home, “I love you, Spidey. My Spidey."

That made him beam brighter than the sun, “I love you too, honey.”

Peter Parker died before he met Harley Keener.

Peter had met Tony back during the Civil War, but after the vulture they didn’t talk much besides hero things -- and Tony keeping an eye on him. It was like his relationship with Harley for the longest time, not as close but getting there. Thanos didn’t happen,and Peter moved for college when the time came. He lost a lot of touch with Tony, despite getting a letter of recommendation from Tony for the school.

When Peter was home for winter break, visiting May in her new apartment in Brooklyn -- cheaper rent and closer to the hospital she’d been transferred to -- when it happened. Peter clawed his way back into the apartment after patrol, having been a cold night and someone hit his suit just in the right way that shut off his heater. He was freezing, tried to change, but May found him dead on the floor just as she got home from work. He was cold as ice.

She called Tony for help, but after transferring him to the Compound’s medical ward, nothing could save him. Peter Parker died.

He was buried in the mausoleum that belonged to his mother’s family. Alongside his mother and father. It was the last grave slot, being the coffin in the center. May Parker left New York, after that, with the grief having been too much -- especially given the Spidey-memorials and paraphernalia around when Tony announced Spider-man’s death.

Two years later, Harley Keener finished MIT and Tony took him in. The old Avengers Tower was back to being used for Stark Industries, and the penthouse was huge and overwhelming after living in rickety old tennessee. He had a job in R&D that Tony insisted wasn’t because of nepotism and that it was because he was actually pretty good, to which Harley accepted. He also decided to find a place he can call his own, and settled in a nice Brooklyn apartment. It was weirdly cheep and he got word that there was always a spider or two lurking around, but he didn’t worry about that. He wasn’t scared of spiders.

That being said, the owner didn’t quite let slip about the ghost.

He looked about Harley’s age, brunet curls that were in a constant state of mess and huge brown eyes. He was in layers, a blue sweater and khakis, and was in a constant state of confusion. He didn’t even show up the first few nights, but Harley couldn’t get over the feeling of someone watching him. And the first time Harley saw him was while trying to get a glass of water, and under the blue cast of moonlight coming from the kitchen window, the ghost was looking out the window.

And Harley knew he was a ghost, because while he seemed mostly corporeal, if Harley looked at him long enough he could see through him. Harley was startled, to say the least, but the ghost introduced himself as Peter. In looking corporeal, the air grew frigid around him and Harley almost screamed because a ghost? He knew Tony warned him about the dangers of living alone, but he didnt think a spectre was on the list of possible cons.

Fortunately, the ghost seemed nice. After the first few days of awkwardness, Peter being seen a lot more than in the light of the moon, his figure seemed to grow a lot more stable and eventually he even spoke to Harley. He told him a few things about what he did know, which still wasn’t much, and Harley listened. Eventually they had full conversations, like they were roommates instead of by-chance cohabitors, and things were going well.

Harley even told Peter he was a superhero, apart of the avengers as Iron Man’s protogee -- designated as ‘Iron lad’ until Iron Man stepped down. Peter paused in the moment, eye’s growing distant before he spoke in a quiet voice “I’m glad he has you,”

It didn’t really make sense, but when Harley tried asking about it, Peter expertly evaded the question and they moved on. Harley had been getting a feel that Peter was stupidly smart. He could keep up with Harley’s science talk and help him on things he was working out with formulas for work, and it was intriguing. Eventually Harley even started bringing Peter up to Tony, saying he was just a friend he knew and told him about his help with Harley’s formulas. He didn’t really anticipate Tony wanting to meet him, but Harley easily lied and said he was from out of State and they only talked online.

His relationships were getting better throught the months. Harley came into work happy, Peter always making him smile -- and on occasion blush, but he tried not thinking about that part -- and Tony asked more about his friend. But, somehow, he’d forgot to mention Peter’s name. He must’ve, since Tony had no clue his friend was a Peter. The mentioned the man by name to Tony, the man grew solem. Harley asked why, what his hesitnce was for, and Tony told him about Peter Parker.

He even pulled up two pictures. One of him and Tony accepting Peter Parker as a Stark Industries intern, and the second dated two years back, of just Peter Parker smiling at the camera with a woman at his side helping unpack an apartment -- more looking like a dorm. Tony said he was Spider-man, and that the fact didn’t really matter now that he was gone, but that Tony wanted to introduce them one day but Peter died. A year into University, he was visiting home and died thanks to Hypothermia, having been dunked into the hudson on the coldest night of the year. During the holidays, too.

But Harley was much too distracted to pay much attention. Because the person he was looking at? The uni student in the second image? He looked exactly like Peter, down to the crooked nose and everything.

And how was he supposed to tell Tony that his spider-y intern was the same person Harley had been lying to him about, who was actually his dead roommate that he may or may not have developed -- probably requited if Peter’s body language was anything to go by -- unattainable feelings for. The ghost whos been helping him with all of his best problems and who can't even remember how he died.

He excuses himself quickly, running home to tell Peter, only to stop at the door and contemplate if his unfinished business would be related to Harley telling him how he died. Thats how movies worked, right? He really didn’t want to lose Peter, but Harley was also a master at lying to himself, and somehow found that he was doing the right thing with a few little lies.

Because, in his line of work, He’d never seen ghosts before. You’d think more people would be willing to come back from the dead for revenge, so surely there was something else at play. Meaning there might be a chance to bring Peter back. And that chance was probably magic related.

When he walked into the apartment, fully self gaslit, he made sure to set a reminder to call in to work the next day. Peter greeted him with a rush of cool air and a quip about Harley taking forever, and Harley just smiled.

He’d be visiting the Avengers compound tomorrow, because the only person who he thought new enough about magic -- who might be able to help him -- would be Loki.

Plot ending would be Peter's body being miraculously preserved thanks to spider powers and peter easily being revived, and going on a hunt to find out how and why Peter became a ghost. Apparently it was thanks to a spell cast by an old asgardian villain he fought, who intended for him to die while he was off fighting villains in Massachusetts, but he didn't die and the spell stayed. the villain was still in custody, and Loki helped bring Peter back. And somehow, the whole time, they forgot to tell Tony or May about Peter being back until Tony visits Harley’s place unexpectedly, and Peter opens the door.

and just when he thought his parker luck has had it's fill of bullshit for the night,           a call from his radio transmitter alerted him of a robbery in one of stark's old warehouses.

that was the first strike, reminding him of tony when he thought he had already cried what he can cry for him. the second strike was the location, as looked eerily similar of the warehouse liz's dad used to hang out in his world, which is another pain point.

and third one was the robber himself. it may have been five years ago now since he last saw him, but he can recognize that fishbowl head anywhere ... actually, the similarities with this one from his world was little too accurate, and that made his skin crawl.

Spider-man: The Animated Series, 107 (Apr. 1, 1995) - “Kraven the Hunter”

The Breakdown

Peter Parker is up for an interview as a research assistant to one Mariah Crawford. Of course, as per his typical Parker luck, Pete arrives to find her under attack by a guy wearing a slutty little lion-themed outfit (which means the interview is understandably cancelled).  So what’s the deal with this fur-clad-alpha anyway?

The Lion-dude goes by the name “Kraven the Hunter” (aka Sergei Kravinoff) and he’s an ex-big game hunter, who met Mariah when she hired him to track down an old colleague that gave himself super-feral powers with a wonder drug he discovered (So just a normal meet-cute). During their months-long journey, the two hit it off and got horny for each other, but this is a kid’s show so we’ll call it “falling in love”.  Eventually Mariah and Sergei were successful in finding the good doctor, who entrusted her with the last vial of his drug in the hope that she’d develop a cure, along with a warning never to use the drug on anyone else (because living as the adonis king of a mixed species-predator-pack is too awesome for any one man to bear).  Shortly thereafter Mariah is attacked by Hyenas, and barely rescued by Sergei who sustains critical injuries, leaving her with no choice but to use the super-drug to save his life.  Of course it works, but eventually his new powers to turn him into a control freak with an obsession for hunting, along with a new macho nick-name (coincidentally, listening to Joe Rogan has a similar effect).  Newly incentivised, Mariah to flees to New York in search of a cure.

So anyways, now Kraven is trying to romantically kidnap Mariah so that they can be together again, instead of wasting her time on a cure he doesn’t really want.  Naturally, Peter intervenes as Spider-man, and takes Mariah to hide at Robbie Robertson’s apartment since he’s out of town.  Predictably, Robbie arrives home earlier than expected, and Kraven kidnaps him after tracking his girlfriend’s scent there (she’d already run off, believing Robbie to Kraven).  In hopes of expediting his end goal, Kraven issues a simple ultimatum to Spider-man; bring Mariah to his secret hide-out in exchange for Robbie’s life.  Spider-man quickly figures out Kraven is hiding at the zoo, since it’s the only place he’d fit in (and evidently has zero night time security, or maintenance staff), and zips off to save his friend.

Meanwhile, Mariah has been making good use of her time, and manages to finalize Kraven’s antidote. Conveniently, she arrives at the zoo midway through Kraven’s battle with Spider-man, accidentally shifting the fight in our hero’s favour, although not without incident.  Once again Kraven is left with critical injuries after saving her life (this time from lions, but she really needs to watch where she’s going).  Apparently Mariah had the foresight to make the antidote capable of curing Kraven’s mutation AND injuries, so it all works out and the two love birds can go back to “being in love”.  *wink*

The Verdict

I’ve never been a huge Kraven stan, but the character has decidedly earned his place in Spidey’s rogue gallery.  The real problem for this show is that his comic book counterpart is tied to some of Spider-man’s darker stories; even his original concept is that he just wants to hunt and kill Spider-man because no other animal offers enough of a challenge.  Given the show’s harsh censorship restrictions (the writers weren’t allowed to have the characters say the words “kill” or “murder”), Kraven was inevitably up for an overhaul. 

The end result is a Kraven who’s… a bit watered down compare to the original, but it works for this show, leaving him less the villain, and more a dangerous victim of circumstance.  Tying his origin to a love story with Mariah at least incorporates her into his backstory from the get-go (in the comics she was introduced as Kraven’s voodoo-priestess-ally know as ‘Calypso’), even if it does completely change his motivations.  The biggest aspect to this shift would come about in future episodes (which I’ll discuss more if/when I get there), suffice to say that his return would result in becoming more of an uneasy ally of Spidey’s as opposed to an adversary.

So how does the Episode stack up overall?  Well, it’s about as ridiculous as the rest of this series, but I’ll be damned if it’s not a lot of fun.  Why was Mariah holding interviews for an assistant position if the only reason she was in New York was to find Kraven’s cure?  Considering how quickly she whipped it up at the last second, she couldn’t have been THAT far off from finding it on her own.  Maybe she just works well under pressure.  Also, if Kraven could track Mariah’s scent across an entire city to Robbie’s apartment (and later Peter’s to a fashion show), why not just keep following her to wherever she ended up?  Oh, and what about Mariah’s colleague who invented the ‘wonder drug’ that mutated Kraven to the begin with?  You know, the one who GAVE her the serum in hopes of finding a cure? Remember him? Because the writers sure didn’t seem to.  Honestly though, having a friend bail on you because of their hot new boyfriend/girlfriend is probably the most realistic thing about this episode.  At the end of the day these questions aren’t really of consequence, because this isn’t that kind of show.  I know I sure didn’t give these matters any consideration when I was a kid (well, maybe the scent-tracking thing).

Obviously if this were intended for an older audience I’d be a lot more critical, but I genuinely enjoyed this more than the last couple episodes.  ‘Kraven the Hunter’ at least succeeds at being fun, and that’s enough.

Additional Observations

This is the second research job Peter has applied for, that subsequently ended up being directly tied to a villain-of the-week (first time was the Lizard).  The poor guy is bound to get a complex.  Although I gotta say I’m feeling a little short changed.  My Dad has been a scientist for as long as I’ve been alive, and not a single member of my family has ever come close to gaining super powers.  Then again, he also refuses to experiment on any of us (don’t even get me started).

Peter attends a fashion show where MJ is performing as a runway model.  She’s so excited to see him that she asks him out for dinner after the show.  Unfortunately, Felicia Hardy is also present (her mom is the host), and she TOO wants to hang out with Peter afterwards.  Luckily Kraven shows up looking for Spider-man so Pete has to abandon ship to go fight him, pissing off both women in the process.  He really dodged a bullet there!  Although, this just goes to show that Polyamory isn’t for everyone.

Kraven reveals to Robbie that as someone who was born to Russian nobility, he’s observed that the laws of the Jungle (like high society, apparently) DEMAND retribution when something of yours has been taken.  Shaky logic aside, this questionable code of conduct does leave me wondering if Sergei was really that great of a guy, even before he became Kraven.  Bear in mind that he only stopped big game hunting because it was outlawed, and not because of any moral convictions.  I’m just saying…

"Yeah su-WAIT WHAT?!" It took a second too long for his brain to catch up with just exactly Miguel was asking of him. "WOAH WOAH WOAH Me? in charge??? OF HQ?! You feeling alright there Migs?"

It wasn't that he couldn't do it, and that he hadn't stepped up a NUMBER of times when someone with EXPERIENCE needed to be in charge. However this was DIFFERENT, the whole reason he let Miguel be in charge of the whole thing (Outside of it being Miguel's idea and his tech) was because he was ALLERGIC to leadership roles.

Another forced huff, as he it settled int that it was VERY unlikely he was going to get out of this. "Alright alright alright.. FINE! But you owe me one big guy." He has resigned to his fate.

He couldn't make promises that there wouldn't be... A LITTLE RULE BENDING, What can he say? He is Peter B. Parker 'your friendly neighborhood adult child'.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ‘Story’ trailer, limited edition PS5 bundle and DualSense wireless controller announced

Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Insomniac Games have released the official story trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as well as announced a limited edition PlayStation 5 bundle and DualSense wireless controller and more as part of its San Diego Comic-Con 2023 panel.

San Diego Comic-Con has always been one of the most exciting times for Marvel fans. We had an amazing time in 2018 with the original Marvel’s Spider-Man, and we were thrilled to make a return trip to Hall H today to talk about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. For those of you who couldn’t join us—here’s a recap of what happened!

We wanted to start the panel off with a bang, debuting our brand-new Story Trailer. Take a look!

The trailer sets up our story in the game while also giving you your first full look at the monstrous Venom in Marvel’s New York! Here’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 senior narrative director Jon Paquette to offer a deeper look:

“At the beginning of our story, our Spider-Men are at the top of their game,” said Paquette. “But both Peter Parker and Miles Morales are struggling with their personal lives. Miles is trying to find time to write his college entrance essay, but he keeps procrastinating and focusing on Spider-Work instead. Meanwhile, Peter is underwater on payments for Aunt May’s house, but he can’t sell, it means too much to him. And just like Miles, Peter tries (and fails) to find balance with so many responsibilities. MJ wants to help Pete with the mortgage, but her job is on the line now that J. Jonah Jameson is back at the Bugle and looking to clean house. Our heroes have arrived at a confluence of crossroads, with uncertain futures, and some tough decisions ahead.”

When Kraven’s hunters arrive in the city, it sets off a mystery of why they are there and who, and what, they are hunting. But as the Spider-Men and MJ dig deeper into Kraven’s motivations, the symbiote begins to threaten Marvel’s New York and everyone and everything they hold dear.

As many of you noticed in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2‘s Gameplay Trailer from the PlayStation Showcase in May, Peter’s new Black Suit affected his personality and gives him new, powerful symbiote abilities. You see bits of that in this trailer as well, and you can see Peter’s symbiote powers tax his relationships with Miles, MJ, and Harry.

(Spoilers for 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man ahead!) Given how much Miles Morales looks up to Peter for mentorship and guidance, this creates further problems. Beyond trying to figure out what’s next for his life, Miles continues to struggle with the death of his father at the hands of Martin Li, aka Mister Negative. As you saw from the trailer, you haven’t seen the last of Mister Negative.

We asked senior creative director Bryan Intihar about some of the new abilities that players will get to use in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2:

“We’ve always thought of our Spider-Heroes as ‘acrobatic improvisors,’ and in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we wanted to equip them with new ways to do so during combat,” said Intihar. “This includes Pete’s Spider-Arms and Symbiote powers, while Miles now brings two forms of bioelectric Venom to every fight. And when you start combining these abilities with all-new Spider-Gadgets like the Web Grabber, it can lead to some exciting combos.”

This trailer also provided some new looks at our expanded Marvel’s New York. Now, you’ll be able to swing across the East River and explore Brooklyn and Queens. Coney Island makes its debut as well in the trailer and we can’t wait for you to explore it! And one way you can explore is with the Web Wings! Let’s hear more from Senior Game Director Ryan Smith:

“We are really excited for people to try out the Web Wings,” says Smith. “For us it was a cool opportunity to bring something people have seen in comics and movies and integrate it in the game. Swinging is the core of our Spider-Man traversal, so we designed the Web Wings to work with swinging and complement it. That way you can weave back and forth between the two to build up speed and height. When you use the Web Wings with our wind tunnels, though, that’s one of the ways to go across the city super-fast and really push the speed of traversal, which was one of our goals. Thanks to the power and speed of the PlayStation 5, Web Wings, add another layer to our traversal system and change up how you look at getting around the different parts of the city.”

With the reveal of Venom we thought it only appropriate to bring out our Collector’s Edition Statue for the first time and show it to the crowd.

We asked both Bryan and Jon about bringing such an iconic Marvel character like Venom to life in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

“Our philosophy has always been that we want to respect the history of the franchise and the Spider-Man DNA, but also not be afraid to mix things up,” said Intihar. “The same holds true for one of its iconic characters, Venom. While the look of the character and several of his powers/abilities should be familiar to fans, this will be a unique Venom story that we are excited for everyone to experience this October.”

“When we decided to craft a Venom story, we knew we’d be making a bit of a tone shift. The best symbiote stories serve as an allegory: We all have darkness inside of us– but what would happen if we let it take over? With the introduction of the symbiote into our franchise, our heroes are forced to battle darkness, in all its forms,” added Paquette. “We wanted to see them change, both inside and outside, and feel the effect it has on those around them. And when Venom takes control, they face the real danger that they could lose themselves, and their loved ones, forever.”

Venom was brought to life by the sensational actor Tony Todd. We’ve long admired Tony and were so grateful to work with him to play Venom. His voice work brings to life Insomniac’s new monstrous design for the character—and Senior Art Director Jacinda Chew explains more:

“Our Venom was inspired by the comics, but there have been so many interpretations that it was fun to pick and choose what fits the game,” said Chew. “He has a unique take on the white spider icon and has the anatomy of a human. He also has powerful tendril attacks that can take many forms. It was challenging to find the right balance between liquid and solid in Venom’s materials as going too watery makes him look weak and going too solid can quickly turn him into a tentacle monster. Venom must look both powerful and semi liquid at the same time.”

We had some other fun news to share from San Diego Comic-Con. We are thrilled to work with one of my favorite poster artists, Tomer Hanuka, along with Marvel Games and Mondo, to produce a brand-new Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 poster for San Diego Comic-Con. The poster depicts Venom battling our Spider-Men in Tomer’s signature art style. While the variant screen print’s sale (Edition of 215) is limited to Mondo’s Booth (Booth 5137) at the event, Mondo has a Timed Edition screen print on sale on their website! It’s available from now until Sunday, July 23 at 9:59pm PT and they will print one for everyone who places an order. There’s also a special Promo Edition lithograph that the developers and voice actors will be signing at the Marvel Booth (Booth #2329) on Thursday, July 20.

We also discussed another collaboration with Mondo to release a vinyl soundtrack of the game’s amazing score from composer John Paesano. Kris Anka graces the vinyl with his incredible art which is currently in development. Starting today you’ll be able to pre-order the vinyl from Mondo’s website.

Limited Edition PlayStation 5 Bundle and DualSense Wireless Controller

Anger is a familiar feeling, but not a comfortable one. Especially when it comes to Peter and their long friendship.

MJ is used to annoyance, disappointment. She it used to Peter's flakiness, his inability to show up anywhere on time, no matter the occasion or the importance. She is used to all of that - except this, Peter making her feel unimportant, unwanted.

"You didn't," she says, words soft but firm. "You didn't say something else and I didn't misinterpret your meaning. Would you like to try again?"

mercy's words suggest she believes he's had any sleep at all in the past few days. with her already looking up at him with concerned brown eyes, tone making it clear she doesn't approve of his latest misadventures, peter doesn't exactly rush to correct her. instead, he looks out into the horizon, away from her. the dark circles under his eyes aren't as pronounced bathed in the hazy sunlight, blurring his features.
