finally at that age where i'm thinking i should get a tattoo. not bc i feel strongly about it, just seems like a waste not to. i've got so much skin i'm not using

#feels so selfish like. all this skin what am i saving it for?#open to design suggestions! (please make me regret this offer)#maybe some deep sea horrors. a pretty watercolor of a gulper eel #once saw a person on the subway with various Skeleton Tattoos on all their limbs #i respected their commitment to the theme #but more than that i respected how all the skeletons were engaged in Activities #dancing in a ballgown. juggling its own (and two other???) skulls. swordfighting. being a mermaid skeleton #ANYWAY. the only reason i haven't already gotten tattoos is i just couldn't be bothered #i'm old enough to know i don't have any strong-but-potentially-temporary feelings driving me towards it #aesthetically i prefer decorated to non-decorated surfaces. but i'm not artistic or thrilled with commitment #honestly it feels like sheer laziness. indecisiveness--nay. immaturity!--that i HAVEN'T gotten a tattoo yet #letting all this blank canvas go to waste. tut tut i need to grow up and be an adult and get a tattoo sleeve already.#really i've put off my responsibilities long enough #(in fairness i DID at one time have 18 different piercings)#(but i took most of them out bc they interfere with wearing headphones and/or shoving my face in my pillow during Sleep Time)#(i only kept the nape piercing bc oddly enough it ended up being the most convenient. and the least painful to get now i think about it.)#(neck piercing? no problem. normal pair of earrings? Y'know, Clea's refusal to recognise the creatures of the Canvas as real people is clearly supposed to make her come across as callous and uncaring, and in some ways it does? But in other ways it actually makes her seem the least callous of her family. Renoir and Aline (and to a lesser extent Alicia in her ending) know they're hurting people! Renoir is actively killing people, Aline is refusing to leave the Canvas even knowing her and Verso's creations will continue to suffer until she does, and Alicia in her ending basically uses them as toys to pose and play with in her idealised world (most notably with painted Verso, who repeatedly makes it clear to her that he does not in any way want this and she does seem to be actively forcing him to play along)! At least when Clea sends her Nevrons to slaughter them and warps her painted self to continue doing that even when she's not there she is making those choices believing they aren't real. In her mind they may as well be... well, NPCs in a video game. They're there to be done with as she pleases, because they don't have real thoughts and feelings and so she's not really hurting anyone. She's sad about destroying the Canvas her beloved brother made, sure, but she has no reason to care about the people in it because she doesn't believe they're really alive. Renoir makes it clear that he truly does believe that these painted creations are real with real lives that genuinely matter! And he's going to kill them anyway. Alicia truly loves her painted friends and family! And she's going to force them to play the parts she wants in her ideal world even if they don't want to. Killing, injuring or otherwise harming NPCs because that's more convenient for you is fine, because you have no reason to believe you're actually hurting them; doing the same to people you genuinely, wholeheartedly believe are real is monstrous.

#clair obscur #clair obscur spoilers #clea dessendre #it's like a kid playing with dolls and deciding one of them dies horribly #that's fine. normal. not a problem #to clea's mind the creatures of the canvas ARE basically dolls so why shouldn't she 'kill' them? there's no moral discussion in her mind #they aren't real. no need to care #but the rest of her family (or at least renoir and alicia. it's a little unclear with aline) truly believes they're real people #which makes their actions awful in a way clea's aren't because they KNOW they're doing these things to people and not npcs #like yeah when i'm playing tes games i'll break into people's homes and rob them blind for funsies #(i love getting high sneak and just stealthing through people's houses. especially when i can do it with them looking right at me)#but i wouldn't break into a real person's house and rob them blind because they'll actually face consequences for that #the npcs can't because they only respond to what's in their code. which doesn't include all their stuff disappearing in the night #basically clea sidesteps the whole moral dilemma of whether to destroy the canvas by not believing there's a dilemma to be had #the rest of her family... does not
